Happy Friday and happy National Daiquiri Day! Birthdays: Edgar Degas, Alice Dunbar Nelson, Brian May. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a mint note. Extra points if mint is in the name!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Imaginary Authors Saint Julep.
Reminder: 7/26 is Mick Jagger's birthday. Scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent the man himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am not wearing any perfume since I am going to visit a fragrance farm by a Quebec perfumer and try , experience her creations. We will be driving 2 hours with friends. If i were to choose one for today, that would be Prada Rose , Fragrantica says it has mint.
I will tell you more about the perfume experience later.
Ooh that sounds like fun! Looking forward to your thoughts.
Enjoy the roadtrip and do report back!🌹
Yes, report back. That sounds like fun!
How fun! Let us know what it was like.
Have fun! I went there last summer, it was wonderful.
The fragrance farm sounds awesome! Do report back!
Hello and tgif!
I cannot for the life of me find my Eau de Minthe sample so I am reaching for a fun mint – BBW Twisted Peppermint mist. Claiming extra points too!
Tamagotchis. Does anybody remember those digital pets or even played with them (or for your kids)? The newest version did a collab with Sanrio (house of Hello Kitty) and it is adorable. I, a sucker for something cutesy ordered one. Now its beeping away asking me to nurse it. The nostalgia is great though, makes me feel “young” again. Is digital anti-aging a thing?
Tamagotchis! I remember when my daughter had one.
I remember it being such a hot item back then.
Tomagachis were huge in my late middle school or early high school days. My sister and I had one. I never took mine to school but my sister did. She kept getting hers taken away because she was playing with it during class. Eventually, someone at school stole hers.
Thats a shame.. 😔 My school didn’t allow it so I only played with it during weekends and holidays. That also meant my pets kept dying…
Tamagotchi! My very very very strict Roman Catholic school did not allow it. That said, did you know that Hello Kitty is not feline? She’s a little girl …
Yes! It was such a shock when I learnt about that. Also, Hello Kitty has a pet cat!
OMG I love sanrio and tamagotchi! I didn’t need to know but I do want one….
This collab allows you to raise Sanrio inspired pets! *Enabler nudge* 😏
I remember the tamagotchi craze. Not my thing.
Money saved! 😉
After four days, I am all minted out, so I chose Thé Yulong, instead.
😄 Excellent alternative choice. For some reason, I’ve been seeing that one everywhere lately. Do you own a bottle?
I’m wearing Guerlain Homme Edp for its mint/mojito notes.
National Daiquiri Day? Who knew? Properly made – with white rum, fresh lime juice, and raw sugar – the Daiquiri is a HIGHLY underrated libation. I’ll look forward to honoring the day later this afternoon.😎
My parents made pitchers of Daiquiris when entertaining in the summer, on the patio. The rum/lime smell takes me back.
The strawberry version was a favorite of mine back in my clubbing/party days!
Yes, it sounds as if it would be tasty when made properly. Do you remember the Daiquiri Ice from Baskin Robbins? I loved it when I was a kid.
I remember the BR Daiquiri Ice! It was a favorite of mine too.
I just knew that someone else here would remember this.
I think I have a sample of Saint Julep somewhere, but for now I’m wearing MFK Aqua Celestia. It’s very refreshing!
Hope it was a good day SheriG!
I can’t find my sample of Saint Julep, I may have passed it on. I love the scent but unlike my other Imaginary Authors perfumes, it vanishes right away.
So I’m wearing Perles de Lalique, which was just delivered, an unsniffed purchase which is something I rarely do. PdL is a modern chypre (2006) that is very well blended so I can’t smell individual notes but it smells expensive and pretty (it was perfume-math free.) Lovely, sophisticated bottle, too.
Nothing like a pretty perfume that is purchased unsniffed😉
Oh yay you got it!
Glad to hear that you are enjoying Perles de Lalique!
Thank you all for the travel wishes yesterday! I made the trip safely and in good time. Slept with the window open with the cooler nights here. Was up early for a coffee run into town and saw 3 deer, a coyote and a family of turkeys crossing the road. It’s good to be home.☺️
Mint. I don’t have anything in my collection with it and not sure that I ever had. I’m way off cp in an essential oil blend I picked up over 4th of July weekend called Dirty Hippie lol with lavender and patchouli.
For those of you that are mint chocolate chip ice cream lovers, you must try the Trader Joe’s! It is the most delicious mint cc I have ever tasted because the first ingredient is cream. Cream! Not milk, not nonfat (shudder) milk but actual cream. And yes, it is super creamy and delicious.😋 you’re welcome.😉
I love mint chip ice cream and that Trader Joe’s sounds delishhh!
It is! I originally bought it for my daughters and then I discovered how good it is!
Have a wonderful visit!
Thanks lillyjo!
That oil sounds nice! TJ’s mint chocolate chip ice cream is my hands-down favorite, with their French Vanilla a close second. But wait, maybe their Bon-bons should go in 1st place. Have you tried those?
I haven’t! I’m going to have to look for them. Their dark chocolate almond butter cups are another favorite of mine.
Glad you made it safely. Have a wonderful time! Looking forward to a trip near Madison in August.
Thanks! And enjoy your trip! I think you’ve mentioned before you visit west of madison in the driftless?
Yes, going to Dodgeville in August for a music fest at White Oak Savanna, a beautiful restored organic farm and sanctuary. We’ve camped at Governor Dodge and explored the area for many years.
Thanks for the TJ mint chocolate chip ice cream recommendation!
Speaking of deer 🦌, I saw one just standing by a bush on my turn in to my part of the townhouse development. It’s very odd but I suppose the really hot weather must have destroyed its normal feeding spots.
Do report back if you try it!
We once had a deer in our backyard in madison- poor little guy, he was really lost.
Wearing Covery, which has peppermint in it, I believe.
🙂
Still no mint here other than in my toothpaste. I blindly reached into my sample/small decant stash and picked out a teeny weeny sample of Le Dix (vintage, so it says that on the label) that I got in swap, I assume. Anyway, three sprays so far, the jury is still out, but it wasn’t love at first sniff. I always feel like a fragrance failure when I’m not madly in love with a vintage perfume. I guess because I should at least love it for the quality of ingredients and such, but nope, this one is just not me. I won’t scrub it because it’s not THAT bad and I’m curious to see how it develops.
Anyway, slept like the dead last night because those four hours of slave labor yesterday morning took the wind right out of my sails. My co-worker had this project stuck in her craw for weeks and she’s like a dog with a bone. Anyway, she’s elderly and an absolute lovely person so I really could not let her do this on her own. The only stipulation I made is that we had to do it very early to avoid the sun and heat and who knew it was going to take us 4 hours?! Started an audiobook at bedtime and before the first paragraph ended I was gone, baby, gone! 💤💤💤
Happy friYAY!
I didn’t love Le Dix either. I am a big fan of vintage but I have to connect in some way if I am going to wear them. Sometimes the connection will be negative and then it’s a definite no.
Interesting that both you and lillyjo were not fond of LeDix. I’ve always loved it, and it’s the fragrance that caused me to seek out other violet scents. I have a number of them now but LeDix is my favorite.
I was going to wear Zoologist Snowy Owl for the mint but I am very sick and can’t smell a thing so I’m commando for the day. Apparently many of the people I was with at my recent conference in Santa Fe have tested positive for Covid and I came down with something pretty bad yesterday. A kind friend is going to drop off a Covid test for me to take a bit later this morning. It’s either that or a very nasty cold.
On the good news front, my air conditioners are now fully functional! Honestly they have not worked well for over a year, so this is a delightful treat. I can even lie in my bed with an extra blanket on, to be cozy, as I love to do when I’m sick, without waking up all sweaty.
Oh no! Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!
So sorry to hear this. Hope it runs its course quickly and you will soon feel better.
Oh, no. It sounds like Covid. Glad you will be receiving a test to find out for sure.
Yes it is. I’ve now taken the test my friend dropped off and it’s positive. I’m going to try to sleep it off. Thanks to everyone!
Wishing you the best and a quick recovery. Have heard this is happening a lot lately.🤗
I have heard the same thing. I don’t think it is as bad as it was in the past.
Drat, sorry Calypso. Glad you don’t have covid with NO a/c, though!
Stay cozy, hope you are on the mend soon.
Get well soon Calypso!
How unlucky, get well soon.
Oh, no! I hope that the new AC and the extra blanket vanquish that nasty virus post-haste!
I hope you can rest and feel better soon.
I hope you’re feeling better soon.
Feel better soon!
Hope you’re feeling better very soon, Calypso.
Ugh! Always a worry at conferences. Mr. Ockeghem has been at a number of them recently, but seems to have escaped unscathed so far. Feel better, and I’m glad your air conditioners are in!
Boo hiss on not feeling well! Hope your symptoms stay mild.
So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well! I hope you recover soon. I’m obligated to go to a wedding next weekend and I’m dreading it, for fear of getting sick. 😢
Damn you, Covid. Speedy recovery, Calypso. Good thing you can be comfortable with the new a/c.
I’m catching up on comments days later, but I just wanted to say I’m sorry you got covid on your trip. I am still getting over it, and I got it for the first a little more than a week ago on a visit to Ohio. I thought the first 48 hours were very rough! I’m still dealing with some congestion, but I think and hope my fatigue will be fully gone by tomorrow. I hope your sickness is very short lived!
SOTD is ELdO You or Someone Like You: citrus mint. Just the thing for ANOTHER stinkin hot day. I’d better get out for my walk soon before the heat really gets going…
Was a bit better here today and did manage a short after dinner walk, but walking has not been good this summer 🙁
Minted from nomen_clature! Iced mint-jasmine tea with honey. So good! Stay cool, everyone.
That fragrance sounds heavenly.
Scent twins!
Molton Brown Wild Mint and Lavandin for the cp today!Superfresh but might be suited better to a really really hot day.Today was 24 celcius, this Winter has been pretty good to me!
Happy Friyay!
XO’s
I still can’t believe your winter temperatures! I would take half and be happy.. lol.
I would NOT survive your winters! The last time I saw actual snow in my neck of the woods was in 1981!🤣🤣
Your winter temps are what late Spring is like here!
Hello all!
I’m in Akron Haze today, which apparently has a mint note! To me it’s mostly sage, and is quite charming. I tend to get lots of compliments on it, even if that’s not very important to me.
Going in for my tech demo today at the radio station. It’s been awhile so I’m brushing up now.
Have a great day everyone!
Good luck at the station!
Thank you! I think it went well. I’m excited to play.
Glad to hear that your tech demo went well!
Thank you!
Wearing no 5 edp today since I have nothing with mint in my collection. I guess I will be listening to a lot of Queen today since it’s Brian May’s birthday.
I thought I’d hear more Queen on the radio, but nope.
Oriental Mint by Phaedon, happily weird and surprisingly gorgeous in wintry Sydney.
Hiya Portia! Your SOTD sounds really cool!
I wore the last drops of Heeley Menthe Fraiche for those extra points. I don’t think I will miss this one. There is something I do not quite like in it – could be freesia. It is not a bad mint perfume though. It is just there are better ones for me.
Now I am in Carthusia Mediterraneo, which also has mint.
I am proofreading an adventure game that incorporates a lot of Slavic mythology. Basically, you play as a witch apprentice in a 19th-century Slavic country. To my shame, despite being Slavic, I know little about Slavic folklore. For example, I did not know about Poludnitsa (usually translated into English as Lady Midday or Noon Witch). They personify sunstroke and heatstroke and attack people who work in the fields at noon.
New to me as well and very interesting, Glannys. Sounds like a fun game.
It looks very promising, both graphics- and story-wise. But they need to get rid of bugs.
I appreciated the bit of Slavic folklore you posted on. Lady Midday sounds like something a lot of different nationalities would have stories about.
This sounds like my kind of game! I love folklore. Are you allowed to say what the name of the game is?
You know, I am not sure. On one hand, I can’t claim it as my work publicly. On the other hand, I believe there is a demo version, so the developer probably wants more people to play it. I’ll check with the localization studio on Monday.
By the way, I called it an adventure game but later realized that it was somewhat misleading. It is a mix of building and adventure. You become an apprentice of Baba Yaga, build a chicken leg hut, with the possibility of expanding it later. You complete quests helping people and spirits, gain more resources and learn to be better at witchcraft. Very folklore-rich for sure.
Very up my alley! Thank you for checking. If not I’ll keep my eyes peeled regardless.
Got the permission from the localization studio. The game’s name is REKA. It is on Steam.
Piper Nigrum for me today, which has a strong mint note and is a very lovely and unusual offering from Lorenzo Villorezi.
I forgot that one!
No mint for me.
I am in Zara Fleur de Patchouli again. I bit the bullet and decided to purchase the Zara Romance d’Iris unsniffed. If it doesn’t work for me, I am sure someone will take it off my hands. I couldn’t resist. I am getting like She-ra being called to that site all the time. This must stop!!!
I tried to shop for perfume at Zara but found the site very confusing and gave up. I might try again once Christmas sales start.
Lillyjo, if there are specific perfumes on the Zara website you are interested in, maybe I could send you a link to them?
Ditto.
I just go to Zara perfumes and go from there but unfortunately, they have almost 200 perfumes. I tend to like most perfumes by Jo Malone, so I put her name in the search bar, and it brings up the ones I want to look at. There are other words you could put in to filter your search. For example, rose for any perfumes with that in the title. Just a suggestion. Not that I am trying to enable anyone. I have not had too much difficulty navigating the site.
Zara’s website is kind of annoying. When I am checking on their fragrances I find it helpful to hit the 3 little icon I the upper right to show you more or fewer on the page. I like the middle option b/c it shows the names but not big pics/animation nonsense.
Hope it’s a good one, Kris!
Thanks. If not, I will certainly put it up for grabs. I know it has musk in it and some musks turn on my skin.
Yes, some can go a bit hairspray-ish or worse, (on me anyways). I have high hopes for the rice note!
They smell as bad as skunk on me sometimes. If is goes south it really goes 😊
I am staying well away from Zara for now!
OTOH, Fzotic’s new perfume sounds really interesting to me. And it’s available in a 9mL travel spray.
But do I really need more perfume? Especially another blind buy?
I have never found anything from Fzotic that I liked, but haven’t tried very many.
The two that I loved are Unsettled and Au Dela Narcisse.
Haven’t tried those. May have to get samples.
Yay for your Zara purchase! Looking forward to your thoughts on this one! The struggle is real. ehaeheh 😅
I went to the ballet last night-I thought for some reason it as this weekend but I was wrong.
Like Water for Chocolate was probably the most sensual ballet I have seen to date. Two thumbs up. I wore Love Extreme
I was planning on mint today but instead reached for Amyris Homme
Glad you had a nice time at the ballet!
What lillyjo said. Also, you smelled great in Love Extreme!
Love Extreme sounds like it was the perfect choice for your ballet!
I’m wearing Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette which has notes of leather, courtesy of choya loban, rose and spearmint. I really don’t like mint in general, and I especially can’t stand peppermint but this perfume made me realize that spearmint can be nice in a right setting. Also, Black Rosette works great in the heat and it will come in handy when I have to trek to my office to get my work computer reset after the CrowdStrike glitch.
While I was looking for Black Rosette, I saw a bottle of another perfume that has a light mint top note, my teenage crush, the original Eau de Givenchy. It’s not something I want to put on my skin at this stage but I sprayed it on paper and it’s wafting nicely at me. And it takes me back to the 80s in a nostalgic but “I’m glad it’s over” way.
I wore Eau de Givenchy in the 90’s. I still love it though.
I love it too! I got a mini of it a few years ago; kept the bottle to sniff once in awhile. I went through a few bottles back in the day.
Me too!
Also really like Black Rosette.
I understand that sentiment, I wore it when I was married to my previous husband. Won’t wear it again but it was wonderful at the time.
Oy with having to bring your laptop on to get it fixed! Reminds me of the handwritten boarding pass. Also, I hope it truly is CrowdStrike and not Microsoft (I have stock!).
I ended up not going because apparently they don’t have a fix yet. It is def CrowdStrike thing. My laptop keeps trying to restart and failing. Would be a nice lazy day off if it wasn’t for the work piling up..
Ugh, what a pain about your work laptop!
I’m on vacation and the few perfumes I have with a mint note are at home, so I’m wearing something I find refreshing in the heat, Rhubarbe Ecarlate. I think it’s been a couple of weeks since I wore it last, it’s a summer staple for me.
Have a great vacation!
I drained a travel spray of the rhubarb way back when when it launched and have been eyeing a bottle as well!Love the tartness of it!
I’ve finally joined the Mint Club, and I’m wearing L’Eau Chic by Parfums de Nicolaï. It is a minty cologne with lots of geranium. Very stylish. It resembles their geranium candle quite a bit, and it is very refreshing. It’s quite warm in Luxembourg. Summer seems to have arrived, if only for a few days.
Enjoy the summer weather!
Thanks!
Yeah, I heard it’s warm in Germany, too, from Mr. Ockeghem. I’m intrigued by that Nicolaï — need to plot a trip to Paris this fall.
I think it’s probably one of the most distinctive of her summer eaux. I hope you make it to Paris this autumn. It should have calmed down a bit by then, hopefully.
I”m in Mandragore , and thanks for the people who recommeded it this week.
I’ll need to get my bottle out and sniff it to find the mint!
The small sample I had of Mandragore was very mint-forward, fwiw.
Thanks to a generous nster I am cp appropriate in AA Mentafollia. I should have worn this last week in the high humidity.
It’s my late late night to work and I am already tired.
Strongs for your shift!
Hang in there!
I think I can I think I can 🚂
Hope it will be an easy night, Lillyjo.
You can do it! Teflon kitty is sending you pawsitive kitteh vibes!
No smoothie today, I will have an avocado instead. For the CP I was in Paul Emilien Une belle journée, minty and powdery and tonight it’s Guerlain Shalimar Souffle, I also have souffle intense but reach for Souffle much more often.
You smell great Aurora! Plus the Souffle bottles are so beautiful.
Thank you Lillyjo, it’s so good tonight and yes, that dark blue bottle.
Been enjoying guacamole instead of avocadoes lately. Works for me!
Wearing Reglisse Noire today, thanks to CM8’s mention of it earlier this week. Perfect for the heat!
Wearing 4711 Lychee and White Mint from my cute little mini. I’m so happy that this doesn’t go too sweet on me, since it’s so pretty and refreshing. Another reason for liking it is that the mint doesn’t overpower it. I wish I could remember who gets the enabler pin for this one! 🤔
Have a great weekend, everybody!
The weather here has thankfully started off well. It was a delightful 68F this morning, and the first thing I did was turn off the AC and run around to open all the windows. Plus the forecast says not a day over 90 for next 10. Yahoo!
So funny that my mid-winter day was hotter(75F) than your summer day!🤣🤣🇿🇦
Yes! 😉 It has warmed up a bit, but still, that’s a hoot.
Back atcha with the wonderful weekend wishes!
Thanks, Jalapeno!
I’m wearing CDG Peppermint but will boost it with something a bit meatier once I’m up. Maybe a rose or vanilla as I need the warmth. The snowdrops in the graveyard have begun to open and I have two tiny grape hyacinth peeking out from the weeds at home.
I liked that series, wish I had them all!
And wow, grape hyacinth already…
Twins!
Herbes Troublantes for me today. A very pleasant 28 with much lower humidity. Had a glorious 50km bike ride this morning along the river. Heaven.
Oh nice! I have not had a good long bike ride in ages.
I’m claiming extra points today for my cp and SOTD choice: JCB Fleurs d’Ombre Violette-Menthe, a cool, translucent very refreshing fragrance, wonderful for summer, with a slightly sweet violet on a soft woody base. Like its sister scents in this line, Ombre Rose and Ombre Bleu, it shares the same gorgeous etched glass bottle shape. I have all 3 and ❤️ them all.
The combination of our national politics + the insufferable heat, humidity, and storms (6 confirmed tornadoes Sunday nite & 22 confirmed tornadoes on Monday nite, all in the Chicago area) has been exhausting. Luckily, we are all ok, having spent yet another nite this week in our basement safety zone with 😻and😻, while the little😻hid out of sight and we couldn’t find her.
Finally, the bad weather is gone and we have some nice events to look forward to this weekend, including a family wedding. One bright spot occurred this week on Wednesday, National Hot Dog day. We joined others in a professional association Mr. Laila belongs to at a Chicago Dogs baseball game (yes, they are named for the famous Chicago hot dog) and had a great time. On Weiner Wednesdays, hot dogs are $1 and the team plays as the Chicago Weiners in special uniforms. We had lots of food, free hats, and had a special visit from Squeeze (one of the team’s 2 mascots; Squeeze is the mustard & Ketchup is the other). I guess it’s the team’s attempt to be inclusive because if you know anything about Chicago hot dogs, you know that ketchup on a hot dog is a big no-no 👎here. 😉. It was a nice respite from the world (and politics) for an evening!
Wishing everyone a nice weekend ahead! 🤗 to all.
Glad all is s well. I love the original Ombré Rose in vintage. Just gorgeous rose woods.
Me, too. I love Ombre 🌹.
Yikes. That’s a LOT of tornadoes! 🌪️🌩️
Happy to hear all that has cleared out from your area.
Yeah, they just upped Monday’s official count from 22 to 24. Broke a record!
I love your hot dog outing story: I am a big fan of all types of wieners! I did not know about the Chicago Dogs team and me just a few hundred miles away! I have been to Chicago, and I was instantly in love when I had my first full-on Chicago dog. *cough* butIdostilluseketchupathome* Putting in a word for my old hometown, I can say that if hot dog lovers ever go to Atlanta, you must have a Varsity hot dog (which is a chili dog). Oh, and have and love the bottle of Ombre Rose, too.
Varsity hot dog so noted for the future; I love chili dogs!
Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee and a cup of English Breakfast tea
You smell beautiful.
Do you have the EdT or the EdP?
SOTD = Berdoues Assam of India
I have not worn this in a long time even though it’s very accessible! Love the 🐘s and the perfume. If I describe it as lemintea, do I win points for the CP? 🤣
https://www.instagram.com/p/C9ndsXVRNMz/?igsh=MXVhYndnbnVsaXVtNw==
In other news, the readers of the NU Times have their own version of the top 100 reads. For what it’s worth, I’ve read more from this list than the list by notable writers; plebeian much?
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/books/reader-best-books-21st-century.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8U0.p_4L.xNp7FjVfeCC_&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Anything with tea notes is good. Even minty tea 😉
I looked at the readers book and I only read three of the books there, NK Jemisin’s Fifth Season, Piranesi and of course the last Harry Potter book which I am getting ready to reread to close off Potter reading marathon I do every couple of years. I usually read non fiction and sci fi / fantasy so I don’t expect to see many familiar books on the writers’ list but I will check it out as well. Thanks for the link!
That is such a cute bottle!
Love that bottle.
I’m in another from the Claus Porto Agua series sample set today, Agua Geranium. This is definitely my least favorite from the line. The last one I have to revisit and will probably wear over the weekend is Agua Fougere, which I remember liking quite a bit.
I’m not really a fan of mint in perfume so I skipped the CP but maybe I get partial points for using my soap sample of Soap Distillery Mint Mojito in the shower this morning?
Clue, the play, was fantastic last night! The actors were wonderful, and it was very funny, including some amazing physical comedy. It was definitely a bit draining to have a night out while still getting over covid, but the live theater made it worth it. I’ll definitely take it easy this weekend though we may go out and see a movie that came out last week that we really want to see.
Such a bummer that you gave your Mom COVID! (I went back and read your thread from yesterday.)
A lot of people seem to be getting the latest variant of it.
Yeah, I felt bad, but she said, “what am I gonna do, not see you?” I hadn’t seen her in person since December 2019.
The first work meeting I was in in Wednesday I heard one of my co-workers also got covid for the first time last Saturday. She was still sicker than me and was signed off by 10 a.m. to rest.
Also adding that my mom is generally pretty healthy and this round of covid didn’t hit her super hard, thankfully.
I have been wearing my latest purchase for the last few evenings, Magenta Tanzanite from the Armani Privé line. I had tried to sniff it in Sydney back in February, but every tester I could find was empty. I got the impression that it was nice, and got a sample from Surrender to Chance. It’s quite a lot like Jovoy’s Remember Me, so I probably didn’t need both of them.
But we human beings are not always completely rational, and I pounced on it the moment I found it online. It’s a lovely soft spice, with ginger and cardamom.
Congrats on your new bottle! It’s a pretty one too.
I’m in Nomenclature Minted and have been for most of the week. Had a team volunteering event at a local (well, not that local for me — an hour away) food bank and kitchen. Good timing for that, as most of us have computers taken down by CrowdStrike. I was the only one of the 8 of us who actually knew how to bake, and we were baking cakes…so who knows how good the results will be. (Especially as in the first batch I made, I saw 4 C of flour and put in 4 eggs when it was supposed to be 8…and I’m the one who’s worked in a bakery!)
I’m guessing Monday will be mostly off, too…IT is prioritizing fixes for front line staff. Apparently about half of our computers are out of commission. For heaven’s sake, how on Earth does that software company not understand QA and testing?
I was tempted to get a sample of Nomenclature Minted when it first came out. But didn’t.
Is it worthwhile?
I really like it, yes. There’s also a 20 ml bottle that you can get, which is part of the reason I own it — I went to Aedes to sniff on my NYC trip last year, but an FB of one of the Aedes scents was going to put me over my duty allowance (I had also been clothes shopping). They had me try a couple of the Nomenclature scents, and that was the one that really stood out for me. Very wearable, decent lasting power on me, and filled a hole in my collection (I don’t have much mint).
I have at least one friend whose business was affected by the CrowdStrike fiasco. Fortunately, he was off today!
SOTD = Balenciaga Florabotanica. Has mint in the topnotes. I decided to go with a rose perfume after hearing from some other NSTers who were wearing rose in summer temps. 🌹🌹🌹
I have been wearing two rose scents all summer. One is the discontinued Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood by Dame and the other is La Douceur de Siam by Dusita. Neither are the deep, dark roses so I think they are okay in the warmer months.
Did you ever try the Dame Perfumery Desert Rose?
Yes. A long time ago. I liked it.
Hiya Jalapeño,
Every time I see the Balenciaga Florabotanica bottle I smile. It’s so interesting and I love the black & white stripes.
Hope you’re enjoying summer.
A very understated delight today: Un Air de Samsara, which is quite minty. I learned about this one on Bois de Jasmin, and my love for Samsara and vintage-seeking nature took it from there. A 1995 JPG creation, it was probably discontinued 20 years ago, but the two bottles I have are in good shape. Perhaps it had more projection when it was fresh?
Interesting that you mention projection. I wore a 20+ year old bottle of SJP Lovely earlier this week and thought the same thing. I really had to overspray myself to get any oomph!
Sounds familiar! Those of us who are intrigued by and who wear vintage know that so many factors change a perfume, beyond the likely changes such as citrus notes go off first, etc.
With a name like Un Air de Samsara, maybe it was never a heavy hitter?
Well, I didn’t think of that! 😀
Dregs of Mojito Chypre from yesterday for the project. I was barely awake at 3am to bother putting on perfume. Just swung by Scent Bar in NY and sniffed a few things. Vietnamese Coffee from d’Amman is probably the most incredible coffee scent I’ve smelled and I have absolutely no clue when I would ever reach for it so I’m not likely to buy it. There were a few things I was hoping to try but this location doesn’t have them in store.
Enjoy your sniffing excursions in NYC!
I’m circling back to Capsule Parfums Covey for the mint, lime and fig leaf combo.
We’re visiting friends in the San Juan Islands this weekend and had a fun hike and beautiful views on Cypress Island this morning.
Have a fun weekend Allo!
Thank you!
I wore CdG’s Sherbet Peppermint today, which for me is the perfect mint – fresh, bright, sweet, and fun, but not sharp.
In theory I am suppose to have Friday afternoons off for Summer Fridays, but in reality I usually have external Friday deadlines that keep me at my desk. No deadlines today though, so I spent the afternoon with my 19 month old niece who LOVES her kiddie pool (it is actually a doggie pool that I got at a discount store but it is the perfect size for her). Watching a toddler be delighted by two inches of water is good for the soul😀
Just hearing about it is good for the soul! That is such a fun age.
