Happy Hump Day and happy Juneteenth! Birthdays: Blaise Pascal, Lou Gehrig, Pauline Kael, Salman Rushdie, Ann Wilson. RIP Willie Mays. What fragrance are you wearing?
I went with Le Labo Bergamote 22.
Reminder: on 6/21, it's summer — the solstice is on Thursday. Celebrate the season with your bestest summer fragrance. If you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

The air conditioner is in and running as of 9:30 last night. The window had to be removed and a box built to hold the unit, then the electrician had to come by (he lives in the neighborhood) to run the breaker. Our house is small enough that one big window unit cools the whole thing.
Wearing Messe di Minuet for cooling incense today, one of my summer favorites.
So glad you got your air conditioner. Last night was awfully humid here.
That’s wonderful 🙂
I’m in another summer favorite, Batucada. I love the mix of lime and mint.
Mojito!
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Misty, cloudy morning in LA: aka June Gloom.
I’m in Vacances by Jean Patou.
Vacances is so wonderful, even when the weather isn’t cooperating.
A wonderfully cool morning, high is supposed to be 68-70F. Perfect, but sadly I’m in the office most of the day.
I met some beautiful Yellow Warblers yesterday. Their first day out of the nest and they were trying SO hard to fly. Poor mom and dad were being run ragged flitting back and forth between the babies to feed them and keep them rounded up. Later in the evening I had to do a death dIve out of my camper as a worker was blasting through the area on her golf cart. In the words of Gandalph The Grey “You shall not pass!” All traffic was rerouted to save lives… 👮♀️
Here’s a sweet little clip for those interested. Happy Hump Day!

Forgot to post I’m wearing Shalimar MT for the sun today! 🙌
win* 🤦🏻♀️ Can you tell I’m in a rush…! Zoom zoom!
https://youtu.be/_yF3fCWfmEk?feature=shared
I’m old enough to remember this Zoom! 😅
https://youtu.be/YFSVi3CTrBk?si=4NvtDjKy3CEerTCW
ZOMG, I remember that ZOOM! Holy flashback Batman!
Man… I thought I remembered everything 70’s but I don’t think I ever saw this show.
Aww… so sweet!
How lucky you were there.
Awww, so cute!
Once, a pigeon decided to lay an egg in a plant pot I had outside. It had soil in it, I forgot what I was trying to grow in it lol. But eventually, I got to see the egg hatch and see the bird fly on its own. It was the cutest thing.
They’re so perty. Thank you for diverting danger for them.
Those Yellow Warblers are adorable! Wonder if they are in Colorado, too?
Hello.
Sotd is JM Peony Blush Suede.
Finally tested YSL’s Opium Over Red. Cherry coffee. I have to admit I don’t really get the coffee but I like it. Plus, the bottle is very nice in the deep red shade. I might cave.
Was wondering about that one! Is the cherry strong?
Demeter Grass is pretty summery! Not the accurate representation of a freshly mown lawn I’d hoped for, but still nice and green.
We’re in the middle of a heat wave: going up to 34°C in a couple hours, humidex of 43°, and tomorrow it’ll be worse, thunderstorms and a humidex of 46°. Thank goodness for air conditioning.
46 degrees C?!? Bletch!
Since, for some reason, I was thinking of Arquiste, I am currently wearing Boutonniere.
I know why …
Tuberosa India again, it’s sooo hot, i wish i was in a pool or a lake.
I saw that this was on sale at a discount site, maybe i will get another bottle.
Our pool was closed today for Juneteenth. I will join you at the lake 🙂
I’m wearing Philtre this morning. I decided to give gel nail polishes a try. I am doing my toes, nobody gets close to my feet so if I screw up I’ll be the only one who knows. Wish me luck!
Good luck with the DIY pedicure!
How did it come out?
For me, “bestest summer fragrance” is a toss-up between Azemour and Jour d’Hermes. This morning I’m in Jour d’Hermes Absolu from a tiny spray sample, and tomorrow (the actual solstice) I will have to toss the proverbial coin.
Good luck. I’m not flexible enough to do my own feet any more. It tickles some but I’m just glad there are people who will tend to them when I need it. Let us know the gel nails verdict.
This got displaced from above, sorry.
I knew exactly what you were responding to! I can still do my own toes, but the day when I can’t quite get there annymore isn’t very far off.
SOTD = Hotel Costes Costes
So refreshing on this hot day!

My DIY project is still not done. My next door neighbor is having work done on their door so I decided to ask for an estimate on how much it would cost to fix the doors … still waiting.
In other news, your thoughts please on alcohol consumption. I am interested to know if, despite the ping-pong-like studies, whether or not you have abstained from or continue to drink. I used to usually only have one drink a week (literally one) and nowadays, unless I am on vacation, out to lunch / dinner or at a party, I don’t drink at all. It’s not for health reasons whatsoever. I am also trying to decide if I should give away (or throw out) several 750mL bottles and little ones that came in an advent calendar-like packaging; these are all a few years old. Anyway, here’s an article that may be of interest:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/15/magazine/alcohol-health-risks.html?unlocked_article_code=1.000.l8XU.cbXfxeo45keo&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Interesting article. My own consumption is minimal, mainly because I can’t afford empty calories anymore, but partly because I believe that alcohol and refined sugar are basically poisons. I consume both anyway but try to keep the quantities very low.
Oy! I could be poisoning myself since I don’t abstain from alcohol AND I just switched back to brown sugar (from monkfruit). This said, I do want to watch the empty calories.
Usually I don’t drink but when in France I’ll have the occasional one, usually something bubbly like Clairette de Die.
I like sparkling rose!
I don’t abstain completely from alcohol but rarely imbibe these days for a couple of different reasons that no one but me cares about. I do resent people who pressure others to drink during outings/events/get togethers. MYOB, is what I say. 🙃
My upcoming trip to France is heavy on the wine tasting and I’m pretty sure I’ll be opting out of those.
Sounds like your plans for France have firmed up! As to people who pressure others to drink, I am not susceptible that way but will say that anything similar to this (by colleagues) will get reported to HR in a corporate sponsored event.
I am a recovering alcoholic and haven’t had a drop for over 27 years, however I think like anything else that if it is done in moderation, it probably isn’t going to hurt you. That is just my opinion. I have seen several articles similar to this and I know people that have lived to be 100 and had a glass of wine or a cocktail every night with few health problems. I think it really comes down to a personal decision. Just because I don’t drink, it certainly doesn’t bother me when others do.
Congrats on 27 years!
Thanks Omega. One day at a time and before you know it, years have gone by😊
Congrats.
Thanks you.
Congratulations, Kris!
Thanks, my friend.
Congratulations!
Thanks.
Congrats on 27 years! Personal choice and knowing oneself are key!
Yes, I think it really comes down to what’s best for you.
I stopped drinking when I had my kids. Not for health reasons but out of fear of not being alert and doing something dumb. ( note that I still have done dumb things but did them while being alert. Lol!)
😀
lillyjo, I join you in doing dumb things while stone cold sober 🙂
LOL!
My ethanol consumption went way down in 2020, for a reason that you can probably guess. I still have an occasional “adult beverage” and do have a well stocked liquor cabinet. I plan on using things up and not replacing most of them to thin it out.
There is some family history of alcohol misuse disorder.
Good for you! I’ve hardly drank at home and it is because I hate preparing for it with preparation consisting of simply getting a glass and opening the bottle.
I like to drink, but more for the flavor than any inebriation (I actually can’t stand being drunk!) I usually only have a beverage once or twice a week.
I’m on a new medicine where I have to be pretty careful of my liver so I’m a bit more discriminating about it.
I’ve realized that I enjoy a cocktail for the taste and the ritual — and am now perfectly happy with a non-alcoholic gin and tonic at home. I pretty much only have actual hard liquor if we are out for dinner (rarely) and I start with a cocktail, although I’ve had some pretty great mocktails when dining out, too. I’ve switched almost exclusively to NA beer, after finding a couple I like.
Wine is harder. We live in a wine-producing area, so it’s everywhere — but still, Mr. Skal and I generally stretch a single bottle across two days (open for Friday dinner, finish for Saturday dinner, and sometimes open a second one for Sunday dinner).
Someone (SheriG?) mentioned above that they think alcohol and refined sugar are pretty much poison, and I have come to agree. I’m not working to exclude either completely from my own diet, but the positive difference when I do not consume them is pretty clear. I just feel better.
I’m glad you have found a non-alcoholic substitute that is satisfying! I haven’t found something that replaces a neat Scotch but I have had quite a few mocktails that satisfy.
I used to open so many bottles of wine at home, only to drink a glass and a half! Now I only buy wine to bring to dinner with friends.
Non-skinny cocktails for the flavor 👍 . Medicine and drink interactions could be an issue and I am glad you are paying attention to it.
Yes, luckily it’s not too much of an imposition to go from a max of two drinks in a week max to one at the most. Saves money too. 🙂
Taking one of the dogs to the vet for a check up and vaccines while wearing Gris Charnel.
Hope that the doggie check up went well!
Stella by Stella McCartney today. I have a spray sample I got from somewhere, probably have 1.5ml left. It is so good. Sigh.
Very pretty scent, you smell great.
I love Stella. Have not smelled it in years.
You smell great!! That was really my first rose fragrance. Love it.
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
At last a sunny day, 21C with a breeze, I know many of you are sweltering meanwhile, wish I could send you our weather, keep cool and maybe lots of ice-cream. Our June had been very poor so far.
I wore IPdF Agrumi Di Sicilia, a citrus that lasts well and tonight it’s Yves Rocher Nature Millenaire which as usual smells wonderful.
Enjoy your nice day Aurora!🌞
Thank you Lillyjo, and keep cool especially at night, I read that 100% cotton percale sheets are the coolest.
I think your correct about the sheets.
*you’re
I think I may have noticed mango ice cream in the freezer section of the supermarket the last time I went grocery shopping. Your smoothie of the day just reminded me of that.
Glad to hear that you had a lovely sunny day today! 🌞🌞🌞
Having mango in smoothie again today, mango ice-cream sounds nice too.
The weather has been so rainy and humid the last several days, it is hard to know what to put on for clothes and perfume. Today the sun is coming out and it is cool, but it is still humid. Decided to go with Dusita La Douceur de Siam. Very pretty rose scent.
I’ve noticed that humid weather does make perfume more noticeable. That can complicate scent selection, for sure.
I think citrus scents probably work best in the humidity, but not sure. Obviously, I didn’t go with a citrus today.
Hot and humid but not complaining(yet).
I’m wearing SL Fleur de O’ranger.
I overspayed but once again I sweated off my sotd.
Fortunately, I am working the day shift and have tomorrow off.
Enjoy your day off tomorrow. As to not complaining (yet) 🤔
I like to save up my weather complaints for Fall and Winter. I usually use a few in summer though. Lol.
Glad you’re off tomorrow, hope you don’t have to run errands.
Unfortunately I do have errands, but it’s better than work.
You smell wonderful – love that one, which I got in the cute square travel spray at an NST swapmeet! Enjoy your day off!
Thanks! I need to quit hoarding it.
Enjoy your upcoming day off plus the hot and humid weather! My cool weather might be headed your way soon.
My air conditioner is getting quite the workout this week.
Glad you have tomorrow off! You smell(ed) great today.
Thank you!
Hello all!
I pulled out Une Voix Noire last night for bed and I liked it so much I wore it today today too. It’s a pretty quiet scent but I love leaning in to smell it.
Have a great day everyone!
I bet this one is really nice.
It really is, a hopefully gardenia with a bit of strawberry jam and a velvety base.
Thinking “Summer” in Kenzo “Winter Flowers,” a Flower flanker that leans just a little sweeter. I like sweetness, and I don’t notice all *that* much difference from the original. So very hot and humid here so a powdery scent like Flower is very nice for me. *****
Bug haters alert: skip this. For the first time in my life – let’s just say more than 50 years – I got a bug stuck in my ear today! Being an outdoorsy person, and somewhat curious about this event, I decided since it did not sting or bite, I would see if I could lure it out. Sat next to a bright light for a while and…nothing. But it was moving. Yeah, that’s a little creepy. Consulting a home first aid book, I then followed the directions to fill my ear with olive oil. That did the trick. It floated out after about 20 minutes (Mr. Mossy was my assistant in this). It was the tiniest bug – smaller than a fruit fly – quite surprising to see.
Yeeeeek! Thanks for the “Squick Alert” about your bug story! (shudder)
Wow! Bugs.. glad it vacated your ear.
How did you know it was in your ear, being so small?
I could feel movement and it would sometimes lightly buzz! It was a put 2 + 2 +2 together moment, because to start with, I was working outside and brushed at something tickling my ear. Then it continued.
Surprised I did not pass out while reading that.
Seriously! I had a bee fly close to my ear the other day while on a walk and I definitely reacted in crazy fashion. A bug stuck in the ear is a thing of nightmares.
Another day without needing the A/C on. I am really enjoying this all too brief respite from scorching summer heat. Temps in the mid to upper 90’s will be back very soon. July The Hot, ya know.
So no one showed up yesterday to deal with the wasps nest. Grrrrrrrrrrrr! Time to go back to the office and ask WTH is going on. And get a can of wasp/hornet/yellowjacket spray, just in case.
SOTD = still in Golden Goddess today.
Oh no on the wasps. We had a similar situation 2 years ago. We had to take our own can of wasp spray to deal with the situation so we could get our mail. It was eventually dealt with, but different story when you’re trying to get your mail now!
Ack! Mailbox wasps are far worse than my situation!
I hope they take care of the nest!
I’m hoping for a cool down next week.
Would be nice. Now, if I had a power washer, I’d just blast that nest into oblivion!
Drat!!
I’m sure you already know, but if you spray it yourself, wait until dusk, or get up very early in the morning.
Yeah, I did some poking around the Internet about how to deal with wasps. But thanks for the reminder. 😇
We’re good weather twins. I think the office should prioritize your request, it’s a hazard.
It’s warmed up here in Seattle today, but I know it’s nothing compared to most of the country’s heat wave. As I applied sunscreen before going on a walk and cookie-getting expedition, I wanted to put on a perfume that would mesh well with the scent of sunscreen. I ended up grabbing the big bottle of Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar hair and body spray. There’s nothing like wearing the scent of coconut in the warm sun! Oh, and I have cookies to look forward to tonight.
Cookie getting expedition sounds fun! We have a cookie store here, but I haven’t been in yet. Maybe I will treat myself there soon.
I think you should! I highly recommend cookies for treats.
What kind of cookies did you get? 😋
We got brown butter snickerdoodle, flourless chocolate, and s’mores cookies, which were cookies over graham crackers. We didn’t eat them all tonight so there’s more to look forward to tomorrow.
