It's Tuesday and Hug Your Cat Day, plus the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. Birthdays: Elizabeth Jolley, Ruth Westheimer, Val McDermid. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Parfums DelRae Panache, from a recently rediscovered sample that is unfortunately not quite in pristine condition. We'll see if it settles into something wearable. Tea at the moment is a nice hot latte.
Reminder: 6/7 is Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince aka The Artist's birthday. Scent a Prince song, or do whatever else you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Bitz teapot ("...has been crafted from beautiful stoneware with a beautiful reactive glaze. The distinctive glaze of the pot ensures each one is entirely unique and full of vivid variations across its exterior. A rustic handle in oak serves as a brilliant contrasting accent to the overall aesthetic of the pot") in 1.2 liter is on markdown, $57.90 at Nordic Nest.
I am in 4711 Acua Colonia Lavender & Thyme. Wanted something refreshing with lavender, and this is perfect.
I am having difficulties getting used to my new orthotics (have them since Friday). Attempts to wear them with my current shoes resulted in some bad chafing, so I need to wait till post-chafing wounds heal before going shoe shopping.
Power outages continue, as our power system is under attack. The outages are not too long for now, but who knows what happens next.
I can’t even imagine, Glannys. Please stay safe. And everyone else too. And lavender is a nice pick-me-up.
Thank you! I love lavender.
Glannys, when I first got mine they told me to wear them for ten min intervals, while I got used to them. Maybe once the wounds heal try that, if your dr approves. They do help, in the long run. Good luck-hard to have things wrong with one’s feet. And good luck with all the other things you’re living through. You always smell fantastic 🙂
Yes, I could try that, thanks for the advice! The problem is that with my high instep it is hard to find the right shoes. And the orthotics take up more room leaving less room for my feet, making it a tighter fit. Well, I hope I will be able to try soon.
Glannys, do you have a generator or is that something that’s not available due to the current situation? I hope you’re able to slowly acclimate to your orthotics, and it also goes without saying that I hope the current situation turns around so you feel more safe and secure. Big hugs to Kora Kitty and your Mom! 🤗
We have a new mini UPS for internet but no generator. Places like big supermarkets usually have them. So no heating (fortunately not needed at this time of the year), air conditioning, hot water, food refrigeration and light during the outages. Although we have small portable battery powered lights (lamps, flashlights).
For now, the outages rarely last longer than 3-4 hours, can be 2 hours. There is a schedule and updates from the power company, but they only give estimated times, so this information is not very accurate.
Thanks for the good wishes! 😍
Glannys you smell great! My sister and I love the original 4711 so I will need to try some of these new ones. I appreciate your posts very much and my heart goes out to you and all your country.
I smelled a few other 4711 flankers (don’t remember which ones) and was disappointed because they did not resemble 4711 at all and were rather boring. But Lavender and Thyme is like the original 4711 but with less citrus and more lavender plus the earthiness from thyme. Recommended if you love the original and enjoy lavender in perfumes.
Glannys, do you have access to a shoe brand called Drew Shoes? They have a removable insole and are extra deep to accommodate orthotics. The orthotics I had to wear for years were full length and I had a hard time finding shoes that I could wear with them.
I can’t imagine what you and yours are experiencing. So glad you are able to check in so we know you’re ok.
Thanks for the recommendation! I looked them up, and sadly it seems they are not available in Ukraine.
But we do have shops that sell orthopedic footwear, plus I found a website for a place in Kyiv where they make custom orthopedic shoes, if I fail to find the ready-made that work for me.
Hope you will soon find the right solution for your feet and that the power outages don’t get any worse.
Stay safe Glannys.
You do smell great, Glannys. When I was very young, I remember one of our neighbour’s brought over a bottle of 4711; for some reason she gave it to me; I believe it was a pour bottle.
Adding my good thoughts that you and your family stay safe. Give Kora an extra hug for me today!
Gave her an extra hug, which triggered zoomies in her. 🤣
Sorry to hear that the orthotics are an uneasy fit with you right now. Sending more “Be safe, and be well” thoughts.
Hello.
Sotd is Epice Marine. When I drain my 15ml, which isn’t hard to do cuz it’s so good, I will definitely be buying 2 more.
I went to Din Tai Fung in Taipei 101. The queue was no joke. We waited for over an hour but it was worth it. The dumplings were soooo good! We also had some traditional appetizers, fried rice and beef noodles. So stuffed! The exit is right underneath 101 so we did our touristy job and took loads of photos afterwards.
So glad it was worth the wait!
Épice Marine is lovely.
Soup dumplings are delicious! I miss them.
I Profumi di Firenze Spezie de’ Medici, a big pomander — orange and lemon and every spice you can think of. A gourmand without the sweetness, so delicious.
ooh this sounds right up my alley & I really like that House.
That one is so good!
I haven’t tried anything by that house, but I always look at anything Pyramus recommends. Can’t find that one but a few others look really good.
Yum. I should get another bottle one of these days.
I love that one too, but it’s the only perfume I’ve ever worn that made me break out in a very bad allergic reaction. I wish I could find a dupe of some sort that I could wear!
House twins, you smell delicious, I have the small concentrato bottle.
In Musc Ravageur, cause I finally found a 30 ml size with a decent price. I do like the black cylindrical case FM came out with during the pandemic-but they didn’t seem to be available for very long.
I love MR. Glad you found a bottle with a good price.
Thank you 🙂
You’re smelling especially great today.
Thank you, ringthing-it’s still chilly here, so it’s a good scent for this weather 🙂
I think I wear Musc Ravageur more than any other Frederic Malle. You smell wonderful, of course!
Latte twins with Robin.
It’s going to be 82 and humid here so I’m breaking out the hot weather scents. I’m in Chanel Venice from a sample. I thunked my bottle of Biarritz last summer and have thought about replacing it with either Deauville or this one, but honestly I just like Biarritz better.
I think I’m with you…I got into analysis paralysis with those Chanels and never bought one. But Biarritz was definitely in the running!
madtowngirl, I had the Biarritz shower gel and it has tremendous lasting power, and is less expensive than the fragrance. Might be a less $$$ way to enjoy Biarritz.
Did your daughter receive her quilt yet?
Ah, good to know! I’ve thought about getting the gel and lotion and doubling up.
She’ll get her quilt on Saturday.🥰 Thanks for asking! I will report back.😊
YEs, and a big fan of Chanel shower gel, although in my case it’s the Venise…
Twins with you today in Paris Venise. We smell great!
If you *do* decide to get perfume, get the one you love. Life is too short for “Meh” perfume.
Great comment.
Still in the deluge here, but the weather’s finally supposed to take a turn towards prolonged sunshine midday. I said the other day that I was ready for summer to finally start, and Ockeghem Teen pointed out that this *is* summer in the Northwest, at least our part of it. June is supposed to be rainy…well, it’s better than a heat wave, I guess.
Once I get everyone out the door for the teen’s early class, I’ll put on Vilhelm’s Darling Nikki for the CP. And I shall hug my cat (even if she doesn’t want to be hugged).
I almost put a safety warning on “Hug Your Cat Day” ;-0
LOL!
Love it! 😀
Rain beats having a bad fire season, though.
I am wearing SMN Rosa. My garden is blooming with colourful flowers, smells amazing.
I think i am going to make rose jam with my roses.
Back to work, reality after a week of vacation.
Kevin has sent me rose jam in the past and it is amazing.
Oh, almost forgot he wrote this!
https://nstperfume.com/2016/08/17/last-roses-of-summer-jam-recipes/
Thank you, i will try these recipes. I normally don’t put vodka but that sounds good.
Real rose jam? How cool!
Yesterday I wore Fleur Narcotique. It was nice and I liked how long lasting it was. Plans for a lazy day off today include some light yoga followed by a (late) breakfast of eggs, yogurt and an english muffin, and then settling in to watch OU vs Florida college softball elimination game.
According to Buddy the Cat, everyday is Hug Your Cat Day. He gets his hugs at least a couple times a day. 🙂
Your day sounds perfect…I have already run 3 errands and have 4 more to do this afternoon, so I am jealous.
Lol, it’s not as fancy as it sounds. I can only make myself hard boiled eggs because when I make scrambled I burn the beejeebus out of them, I only do about 15ish minutes of yoga because I have been out of the game for quite a few years now and don’t want to overtax myself, and I fell asleep during softball because the train whistle woke me up at 5 a.m (I DVR’d it, I’ll watch later).
I do hope you have managed/will manage to eke out some chill out-ness time for yourself today. The weather is nice on the east coast today, good day for a walk. I’m taking mine later.
I did manage a walk after dinner, plus I just got back yesterday from a nice beach break…so really I can’t complain! I just had put off too many errands 🙂
I couldn’t decide between going purple or 1999 for the CP, so I did both. I am in Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours (1999) a slightly powdery lavender floral with a woody vanilla base. It is closer to a theoretical Caron Pour Homme Eau Legere than a Jicky Eau Legere.
Also spending time in the Guerlain AA 1999 quadrant today :- )
I don’t really know much of anything about Prince–he was sort of after my time–I only know things like Raspberry Beret. Could you please explain the significance of the 1999?

Happy Tuesday, everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend. I’m wearing “Bon Monsieur” from Rogue.
I’m back from a lovely trip to Portland. My daughter and I spent lots of time at Fumerie, a favorite perfume store. What a treat. The staff was (as always) SO helpful, generous, and friendly, and the store has some amazing houses on its shelves. It’s a great place to wallow in fragrance.
Thanks to the NSTers who chimed in with recommendations. (Foxbins, I didn’t make it to The Perfume House – next time, for sure.)
Calypso, thanks for steering me toward the Binet-Papillon line. I sampled five; all were fascinating, beautifully constructed, and provocative, (which means some of them might be polarizing, in the best way.) My two favorites on first sniff were Nº7 Rose Impolie, an intoxicating fruity, spicy rose, and
Nº 9 Patchouli Monarque, which joins my list of favorite patchouli-forward perfumes. This one is warm and woody, with a dirty edge to it.
AnnE, I tried the latest Quartana – “Soleil Invisible.” Loved it, and would have bought a full bottle, but I was trying to show some restraint, in hopes of modeling responsible consumer behavior in front of my fragrance-obsessed daughter. (I did buy a sample.😊) Also, thanks to you, I tried two from Hima Jamo, and particularly loved their “Tchai,” a delicious tea scent.
Other notes:
My daughter was wild about the recent Parfum D’Empire release, “Un Bel Amour D’Été,” which is a real gem. Couldn’t resist making it an early birthday present for her.
We also tried their new (expensive) leathery oud, Ruade, which was not to her liking. I adored it, being a barnyardy oud lover, but at $500.00 for 50ml, I had to pass.
However, I couldn’t resist their Yuzu Fou – it’s so good.
We both liked “Moon Carnival,” from a house I don’t know much about: Vilhelm Parfumerie. “Moon Carnival” is a lovely white floral, olfactory cocktail. (Side note: I might have misheard the sales assistant, but I think they said the store wouldn’t be carrying the line much longer.)
Another house that was new to me: La Boticá. We were both taken by “Casablanca” and “Flor De Selva.”
When I’m on an excursion like this, I must remember to bring a little journal or something to take notes. I’m sure we sampled well over two dozen perfumes before our noses got tired, and I can’t remember all of them.
Sounds like a lovely time was had by all in Portland. 🤩
Daniel, thank you for the trip update. I never get to sniff stuff in person, so it’s a treat to read about your experience. And how special that your family shares your interest! Nice of you to give your daughter an early birthday gift 🙂
What fun, thanks for the mini reviews!
Thanks for the very detailed report! It sounds like so much fun, and wonderful discoveries!
Thanks for the vicarious shopping trip! Sounds like you both had a great time.
Sounds like a wonderful trip — such fun! I really need to get down to Portland one of these days to go to Fumerie.
Sounds like a great time! Thanks for the recap.
Dedicated Prince fans here at chez spiderplant.
I am serendipitously CP compliant on this too hot day with Guerlain AA Pamplelune. Which, it turns out, was launched in 1999.
Excellent choice–I have that one line up for later this week.
I’m so glad! I admit I was never really a Prince fan other than liking to dance to his music in the 80s…in fact, that is true of many of the 80s stars that were big for dancing. I danced but did not buy the albums.
Fair enough! 🕺🏽
Going with no 5 edt today. Even though I have to go to work this afternoon, I feel really sluggish today. The Bath and Body Works semi annual sale order I made has finally shipped. Took advantage of the online early access on the 31st.
Sluggish twins, Dawn!
Triplets!
Quadruplets!
On my second cup of Joe and enjoying a quiet morning.
I’ve made the leap back into the 21st Century and now have service all the time. It’s been quite the month here in Camp Host Land, mostly good, but enough bad to have made some significant changes to my plans. A lot of drama and unnecessary ridiculous-ness but all is now settled and I’m anticipating smooth sailing ahead and am quite happy with my current locale and situation.
The White Tailed Prairie Dogs just had their pups a couple of weeks ago and now T-Rex has realized she’s is NOT a herding dog, but in fact a very good hunting dog, specifically, a pointer! I have to keep my eye on her because if she can’t catch them with her pearly whites, she tries to to dig to china to get to them. The prairie dogs are adorable and this particular species only inhabits about 8% of their original habitat, so I definitely explained to T-Rex we don’t want to snap any little critters neck at this time…😬 She was unfazed by this admonition.
This population increase has also brought the raptors, and I have made friends with an avid birder here, so I’m getting well educated on bird species in the area. I call her the Bird Lady of Alcatraz. 😎 This is her first summer of hosting without her husband, who died of brain cancer recently. She’s a little flummoxed by the grieving process and doesn’t understand why she still bursts into tears, so we have taken each other under our respective wings for mutual support. Saw the largest osprey ever a week or so ago. I swear it was the size of a C5 Galaxy! HUGE wing span! What a sight to see as it hopped effortlessly from its perch on a gate to lift off and slow spiraling ascent upwards, patrolling prairie dog land. Just poetry in motion. Unless you’re a Prairie Dog (or fish), then it’s possible Death in Motion. 🦅
I bought several (8) additional books by Sebastian Barry and have been slowly delving into them as my bum eye allows. My favorite lines from A Thousand Moons: “That the world is strange and lost was not in argument. That there was no place to stand on the earth that was not perilous was just the news of every moment. That I had souls that loved me and hearts that watched over me was a truth self-evident to hold.”
I’m off today and will have a lazy walk about with doggo and binoculars. Do a little reading, and generally dawdle all day. The Bird Lady and I are trying to plan a way to turn her golf cart into a mobile tiki bar without having hell brought down upon our heads. Wish us luck! 🤣
Wearing SSS Equestrian.
So cool, Deva! The Sebastian Barry I have waiting in the wings is
On Canaan’s Side (been sitting on my coffee table so long that I can’t remember how it ended up there).
All good news but the drama…why, why, is it so hard to make a living without drama?
But glad you are now looking at less drama and have Sebastian Barry to keep you entertained.
It’s so nice that Bird Lady has you this summer. Good luck with the tiki bar!
I’m sorry you’ve had so much melodrama, but happy you have a supportive friend, and wish you both luck on the mobile tiki bar! (I’m trying to visualize that.) Also do keep the little prairie dogs safe! We’re at the time of the year with fledgling birds around and I have to keep cats inside–not even on the porch–for the safety of the little ones. I’m glad you’re back in the 21st century so we can expect to hear from you more often!
I love the Bird Lady! It’s always wonderful to have someone around who really knows birds, and isn’t reliant on Merlin to record bird song, like I am.
I am not caught up on what is going on in your life Deva but am glad that you are getting into birding. It’s a great hobby, almost meditative, I would say. And you saw an osprey, lucky you! You probably felt like I did when that flock of waxwings showed up a few months ago to eat all the berries from the bush next to my front stoop. It was pretty awesome. And good luck with the tiki bar! Have drink on me!
I saw a video recently of an osprey going after a fish. The sheer strength of that bird was amazing to see. Tiki Bar sounds like a great idea.
Ospreys can get HUMUNGOUS! They are also very territorial when they are nesting….
And if the tiki bar gets going, let us know what the first concoction was! 🍹🍹🍹
Scent: Chloe Nomade edt. Not CP.
Weather: high supposed to be in the 80s with rain later today.
Cicada report: We’ve got a dull roar going, and it should get much louder this afternoon with the heat. I love being outside, but am less fond of the bugs randomly landing on me and (sometimes) screaming, generally from the region of my shoulder. Invigorating, though!
The news of this bug explosion made me shrink in my shoes. I. Could. Not. Deal…I’m not phobic about many things but flying bugs that get tangled in clothing and hair is enough to make me refuse to go outdoors. “Invigorating” is not a word I would associate with that situation, but good for you for being a strong soul! 💪
It’s invigorating by way of gasping, jumping up and thrashing around while trying to Get It Off. I’m fairly chill about cicadas, because they don’t have the means to hurt me. But I don’t care to wear them. I’m less chill about stinging insects and horse flies.
I live in the Brood X region, and have seen 2 cycles. That sound and the overwhelming hoards of the bugs is astounding and will impart a feeling of nature’s power. Yay! that you get to experience this.
For some reason, but I think particularly when it’s rainy, they
hang out on my covered front porch. Yesterday I went out there with a broom to remove them from the eaves, and later felt something tickling my collar area…blech! Will use a longer broom over the next few days.
Definitely with the longer broom!
Yikes. I am with Deva on bugs.
Oh my. It sounds like the Hitchcock movie ‘The Birds’, only…..cicadas. Yikes.
Oh that all just makes my hair stand on end.
I’m in my second Aqua Allegoria of the week. I’m wearing Ginger Piccante today, perfect for our hot, humid weather.
What was the other AA
Twins!
I’m trying a free sample of Creed Queen Of Silk and am sitting in a perfume cloud of saffron and tuberose. It has the bang for the buck factor and so many bucks it does cost.
“Queen Of Silk” is an awesome perfume name!
Journey Woman
A little much in the heat today but it is blossoming nicely on the skin
It was warm out there! Glad it is working for you anyway.
SOTD is Zara Livre Blanc. This is a very inoffensive, clean and crisp scent. It would be great for the office.
Jalapeno-I decided against the one Zara I was going to buy, but I did purchase Fleur De Patchouli. Since the prices are so reasonable and I have good luck with them, I thought I would give it a try. If I don’t like it, I am sending to you😉
Livre Blanc sounds nice!
What was the other Zara you decided against? Curiosity compels!
I thought about Elegantly Tokyo because I like white flowers, but I don’t like lily that well and that is the top note in it.
It was a beautiful, cool, bird-singy morning here, but the temperature is supposed to climb to nearly 100 by afternoon. I’m wearing Carnal Flower, which for me works beautifully in either sweaty heat or frosty cold, and a wispy Reformation linen dress. Yesterday we cut in control line around a prescribed burn unit at my preserve, and while that was great fun I’m very glad to be working from home with cold drinks and fans today.
How’s your knee, Isabella?
Hey, good to see you post!
I’m off today and am doing light(LIGHT!) House cleaning.
Get this.. I have to be to work at 4am tomorrow for inventory. 4am! Corporate geniuses…
Thanks to a generous Nster I am wearing Sylvain Delacourte Vahina on a hot and muggy day.
How do you like Vahina?
I think it’s lovely. Today is my first all day wearing.
Oh, good!
Why does it have to be at 4 am?? Once you come to work tomorrow, immediately call the boss to let them know that you are ready to start inventory. 😂
In the past we were given 2 days to inventory the store. Now, the company thinks we can do it in 1 day if we start at 4. Ugh..
Then they should assign more people. This is preposterous.
LOL, Glannys!
Do you have your scent choice lined up for inventory? I hope the day goes smoothly!
4 freaking am? YUCK! Inventory is bad enough.
Leave manglement to find a way to make it worse.
I’m trying out Buttoniere No. 7 from my new Arquiste sample set. I got the floral set, with five, plus they threw in an extra sample, their new fragrance, Venice Rococo. I loved it, but realized after awhile it’s almost a dupe of MFK Out Satin Mood, which I already own, so I don’t need this one. I think the Arquiste scents are very well made in general and I wanted more time with some of their nice florals. Buttoniere is a beautiful gardenia fragrance, quite true to the flower, but I don’t feel I need it.
I’m glad to know about Hug Your Cat Day, and shall soon comply! A good friend just sent me a beautiful small book of cat poems, and I’m slowly reading through it. There is one by Amy Lowell that I’m very taken with, and I found a link to an online version of it: https://www.poetrynook.com/poem/winky#google_vignette.
Love that poem! When we were at the Seattle Asian art museum recently, Ockeghem Teen insisted on buying both a cat bookmark and a book of Japanese cat poetry. 🙂
Did you get your sample set from Arielle Shoshana?
Trying Parfum d’Empire Un Bel Amour D’été today…marketing verbiage and notes from the brand are below. Getting lots of gardenia and ylang in the opening and some cumin too…will report back if I feel carnal by lunchtime. 😊 I did happen to finish the 1st season of Bridgerton last night so that might help me get there. 😉
Carnal and solar. Forever love. Forever summer. Forever flowers. Fresh-soft corollas exhaling fleshy scents: gardenia melting skin and petals, radiant magnolia, exotic champaca conjure the mad intensity of a season of passion on the beach…
Notes: gardenia, magnolia, champaca, ylang, turmeric, cumin, vanilla
That sounds good and tuberose is not my thing.
Daniel just bought that for his daughter according to his post today. She apparently loved that scent.
Gorgeous teapot, and that website is a new rabbit hole for me. Have been on the hunt for new coffee mugs for a few years now, but can’t find anything as good as my ancient Waechtersbach mugs.
SOTM is Le Dix edt over Le Dix dusting powder. Not as much of a diva as Freddie, but still a bit of one. 😆
I guess that comment would make more sense if I mentioned that I’ve been listening to a lot of Queen lately. 😉
I knew what you meant!🤘🎶😊
I figured out the Queen connection, too! 🎼🎵🎶
Nordic Nest and Royal Design are two of my favorites 🙂
I have been hugging my poor Larry the cat lately. Sunday afternoon we gave him his annual summer haircut because his fur starts to mat in May when he’s really shedding. He absolutely hates even just being brushed and when the clippers come out, he not happy. He’ll be quiet at first but this time things rapidly devolved into a hissing, growling, lunging, biting mess (my husband and I wore long sleeved jackets.) And trauma was had by all. Larry has been very clingy ever since and he’s had quite a few hugs!
There’s only one vet in town that does cat grooming and last time it cost over $400 since they charge for an office visit as well as grooming and have to put Larry under anesthesia, in case anyone wonders why we put ourselves through this.
Wearing CK One because it’s a hot and humid day. It’s very refreshing.
PSA if it hasn’t been mentioned already.
Dawn Spencer Hurwitz is having a flash sale, everything is 18% off the website including sale items. Code is
summerfun24, thru June 6th.
Aw, poor Larry! And poor you, having to shave him!
Frozen berries, apple and yogurt smoothie
Spent this coolish and grey day in IPdF Asli and enjoyed it but tonight I am in LPRN Couture and it’s a treat.
You smell great Aurora! Do you have a second favorite LPRN? My Couture is getting pretty low and am thinking of getting a different one. From memory I didn’t care for the original edp.
I haven’t tried it but I think the intense has blueberry which sounds nice. There was an Eau fraîche too which sounded appealing but not sure it’s still around.
Picked up some strawberries today as part of my grocery haul. I haven’t had any yet this year. 🍓
Oh delicious, I haven’t had any fresh ones yet.
It’s 100 years since Franz Kafka died (3 June) . I read his novels in my twenties so it’s probably time to re-read them . We did rewatch Orson Welles The Trial last night, with Anthony Perkins. Worth watching if you’re interested. Incredible lighting and camera work. Wearing Moonlight Patchouli
Oh gosh, that’s about when I read them, and pretty sure I never re-read either. I did read a long piece in New Yorker recently, I suspect there’s a paywall but just in case:
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/01/16/the-diaries-of-franz-kafka-party-animal
Ok, that is not whatever I read recently, it’s not even from this year. While looking around in my usual spots I found this, and now I’ll have to read it because this isn’t it either. Ha, I need to go to bed soon.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/23/books/review/franz-kafka-death-centennial-legacy.html?searchResultPosition=2
Reporting in from the windy and beautiful California Coast! It’s so nice to sleep in, sip coffee in bed and play with perfume samples.
I meant to ask this question on the weekend poll but do any of you have recent experience bringing back bottles of perfume in carry on luggage from the UK to the US?
I read that current UK aviation security regulations forbid the carriage of liquids (including aerosols and gels) in carry on baggage through the passenger security point in containers larger than 100ml. Mine are two 50ml bottles that will be in their original packaging.
(Don’t report me) I also suggested that on the custom form, she low ball the $$$ she’s bringing back to the US.
Funny side story, years ago I brought back a Lyonnaise sausage from France that was shrink wrapped. I was traveling alone, bleary eyed and foggy headed from jet lag and stupidly declared it on my customs form. I was sent through the “special” customs line and after waiting in the line for an eternity, I kid you not, the customs officer scolded and lectured me about bringing in meat from another country WHILE POINTING AND WAVING THE SAUSAGE AT ME! And then, of course, he confiscated it…and probably ate it for dinner that night😡
And starting the day in Misia😊
Ha ha, that is a funny story–I can picture it vividly!
I once stuck an orange from the breakfast in Madrid into my carryon bag to eat somewhere along on the plane and totally forgot it. Then I got “caught” by airport screening here in Houston and had to go in the ‘bad lane” where every single thing was taken out of every piece of my luggage, quite embarrassingly, because of my being so “bad” as to bring an orange.
Another time, I got home and the search beagle at the airport signaled that there was something bad in my suitcase still on the luggage carousel. The sweet little beagle sniffed it and promptly sat down. It was thoroughly inspected and the only thing that must have set it off to give an alert was a fully closed, wrapped can of Hungarian paprika! A dried spice. Gosh that must have still given off enough smell for the little dog. It was not confiscated, thankfully.
Why Calypso, I had no idea you were so “bad” and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that you had an illustrious career in the CIA!😎
I forgot to mention that in contrast, when I went through security in France on my way back to the US, the French official pulled my bag aside, searched the contents until he found the sausage and promptly set about telling me the best way to prepare it, sauce and all! A tale of two countries😊
That’s hilarious!
LOL!
I used to go to Germany for the weekend frequently (this was a long time ago; couldn’t handle that now), and I’d smuggle good bread back and freeze it. I was never quite sure if it was legal or not (I think now it probably was), but I lived in dread of those beagles.
The image of the dreaded Beagle detectives cracks me up.
There was a Dalmatian, I kid you not, on sniffing patrol at the Copenhagen airport! In any case, my bad person story of being pulled off the line onto the line of intense scrutiny happened years ago in the Vancouver airport. To this day, I have no clue why I was pulled aside and they are not required to tell you either!
Did they search your carry on and frisk you?
Yes and yes and yes. I already got my check-in luggage.
Flying in the US, liquids are 100 ml max and liquids must all fit in a baggie. Don’t know if UK has that baggie limit.
I once brought back a bunch of cheese from France in checked luggage. Wrapped in a plastic bag, sprayed with some strong PdN scent I had bought. Further wrapped in a t-shirt, also doused in the scent. No problem at security. I noticed the beagle wandering but he didn’t come near us.
A guy at customs in Chicago went through my bag another time. I had a tin of packaged cookies I forgot to include on the customs sheet. He finally barked he didn’t care about the damn cookies, because I kept apologizing for forgetting to declare them. I think he decided I was too stupid to try and get anything past him.
It’s the same in the UK, according to the UK’s version of TSA, the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
That reminds me of the I love Lucy episode, where she smuggles a salami back to the states, disguised as a swaddled baby. Misia is lovely!
Why didn’t I think of that!?! Leave it to Lucy. I’m off to see if I can find the episode on YouTube😊
I haven’t even flown with perfume domestically here in the States!
I once had a nice multitool confiscated by the TSA. I’d forgotten that I had it in my purse. Got it out of Philly without incident, but the flight back was another story. And it was something I’d gotten as pretty sweet swag, too. 🤬🤬
That is a very bitter blow😔
Mr. Mossy and I are both LOL at that one, allo! It’s doubly funny because we are always nervous about airport travel and would probably keel over if an official called us out.
I know! I was mortified🙃
I’m perfume-free this morning, I’ve woken up feeling a bit under the weather. I think I’ve got a cold, it’s been
nearly five years since I last caught one, so I can’t really complain. I’ll wait a day or so before I do a Covid test, as I know from previous experience that it can take a while to show up.
If I was feeling up to it, I would have worn TF’s Noir de Noir to work.
I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly, and hope that you don’t have Covid. A friend of mine had a cold recently and kept saying how awful it was and she hadn’t had one for quite a while either. (She was tested and it wasn’t Covid or RSV.) Sadly, these things do seem to get worse as we age… Drink lots of fluids! Rest! Take some Vitamin C! Chicken soup!
Hope it’s not the plague and you feel better soon.
I’ve had that same cold for a few weeks now. For me, the cough is still lingering.
Fingers crossed, hope it is just a quick cold!
Wearing Chanel Boy EdP for this dreary day. I am finishing my sample…because I bought a bottle on Sunday. Plus a Chanel eyeshadow. Whoops, sorry budget.
Sorry budget but congratulations, nebbe!!!🎉💐
You smell and look divine, of course🌸
Ostara for me…probably need to replenish. I’d hug my kittens but they are sacked out.
Enjoy the quiet time with your kittens. It will pass all too quickly and they will be getting into mischief again.
It’s another sea day and we’re on our way to Iceland … too lazy to look up where. The sea is rough again …
When I last posted, I mentioned hoping I would sleep well. I did, except I threw up before I slept! It definitely was not my finest hour and whatever I had for dinner came out. The sea was very rough and I will attribute it to that! I was perfectly fine sleeping and then perfectly fine today.
We had to tender in to Nordfjordeid this morning and it was raining like 🐈 🐈⬛ and 🐕 🐩. Funnily enough, there were 2 Cat Cafes within one square mile of the port! We did not go in to take a look so I will just imagine that the cats were very well taken care of.
SOTD = Chanel No.19. Very nice teapot!
Oooooooooooof. Sorry to hear that you had a bout of probable seasickness. Got some ginger handy?
Glad you slept well anyway!
At least there’s the Cat Café. Rough seas, sorry.
Today I went with Apres L’Ondee, paired, of course, with Purple Rain. It was raining here this morning and afternoon so it was very fitting.
Aha, maybe I will steal that for Friday!
Hug Your Cat Day? Hmmmmmmmmm. I’d be all over that, but Teflon kitteh would be less than enthused. The last time I hugged her, she put a hole in the shirt I was wearing. Not in the mood, I guess. 🙃😾
Grocery shopping today, plus mending my T-shirt. Had to find some thread that matched it.
SOTD = commando again, but wearing Dionis Verbena & Cream lotion on my shins. This one seems to be a “Get ‘Er Done!” scent for me. Wonder how it would pair with No. 19?
Ha, ha our kitties are not fond of hugs too often! Verbena twins, though I had tea not lotion. 🙂 I love the taste and the smell of it.
Hiya, twin!
I did manage to give Teflon a hug earlier this evening without getting damaged. She just gave me a dirty look.
I hope you hugged Teflon! For all of the CatMoms waiting to see their angels again, another hole can be mended.💗
And definitely, verbena sounds perfect with #19.
Tea (tisane?) of the day Twinings Lemon Delight. I like it because it has lemon verbena as part of the lemon taste. I prefer verbena to lemongrass. I have it iced for a great Summer refresher. SotD goes rather in the opposite direction: RealOud Flex from Phoenicia Perfumes. It starts out mentholated and oud-y, but on my skin it soon softens and becomes very comforting with something sweet. I ordered the sample set, and this one was an instant love. We’ve had wonderful weather, and I’ve got my garden started. This year’s fun plant is the Sea Holly. I have an acid-test garden where I know deer walk by frequently, and I put out plants to see what survives. Sea Holly is a perennial that I started last year but it did not bloom. This year it shot up to its full 36″ height and the blue color is starting to develop on the many dozens of flowers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eryngium
Oh that must look so cool! Hope the deer will let it be.
BTW, were you asking about the Zara Fleur de Patchouli last week?
Do tell.
