It's (teapot-less, since we are powering through with Miguel Covarrubias this week, see below) Tuesday. What fragrance are you wearing?
For the stylized water and fishes in the image, I'm in Hermès Eau des Merveilles. Tea at the moment is Harney CTC Assam + Art of Tea Cardoz Legacy Masala Chai.
Reminder: on 5/31 we're doing the Picture challenge, edition 9...wear a perfume that matches the image, which is Genesis, The Gift of Life, a 1954 glass mosaic by Mexican artist and anthropologist Miguel Covarrubias. More info here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: above is the left third of the 1954 glass mosaic Genesis, The Gift of Life, by Mexican artist and anthropologist Miguel Covarrubias, via Dallas Museum of Art at Facebook. [You can find nice shots of the mosaic's detail at Flickr here, here, here, full shot here.]
Hello.
Sotd is TF Electric Cherry.
Just saw a cute house gecko on my ceiling. Fingers crossed it will help me gobble up all those pesky mosquitoes!
It’s been raining for the past 10 days and forecast says the future 9 will be as well. Ugh.
Wow, that is a lot of rain! Good thing you have the gecko to take care of the resulting bug life 🙂
Had an olfactory mini drama over the weekend: Friday evening, my sample vial of Viole Nere fell off a kitchen ledge and smashed on the porcelain tile floor. Immediate cleanup did nothing to dissipate the fragrance–woke up Sat morning to scent overload, so I broke into a fridge ‘n freezer box of baking soda to dump some on a paper plate at the crash site and opened the back screen door. A couple of hours later, noticed the offgassing perfume was mingling with a neighbor’s freshly applied mulch/fertilizer…ugh.
The baking soda has since done its job, and today’s the first day since the incident that I can even consider scent application–it’ll be Porter sa Peau post shower.
Yikes. Sorry about the broken sample and perfume overload.
So sorry for that mess and your nose 👃
Oh dear! I once dropped an entire bottle of Mechant Soup on the tile floor in the guest bedroom of my parents’ condo in Galveston, and that really did last forever! It was a mess to clean up. I never thought of the baking soda idea–that was smart!
hahaha Mechant Soup. But we all know what you meant.
LOL, I swear it was correct right when I pushed the button!
I am testing Serge Lutens Parole d’Eau to go with Water element in the Picture challenge.
I had high hopes for this. The notes are Siberian pine needles, lemon zest, eucalyptus leaves. Totally up my alley. And I liked the bath theme. Alas, even though it actually smells like a bubble bath/shampoo, I just do not like this particular fragrance. There is something too sharp and too chemical in it. And, for some reason, it made me miss Wrappings.
I’m about halfway through the Luca Turin perfume guide 2018, and all the Lutens scents he reviews get two stars or fewer: he reckons the company fell off a cliff in 2010, which sounds right to me — that’s when his first modern-wet-ozonic scent, L’Eau Serge Lutens, appeared, and since then I’ve found only three of his releases (out of almost forty!) worth owning. Although there are the room sprays, three of which are enchanting, a return to his old style.
I like L’Eau Froide very much, but not the other scents from “Eau” line. And I found none of the newer Sl perfumes interesting.
Q for pyramus and anyone else familar with pre-2010 Serge Luten: Is it that the post-2010 releases are not as good/interesting as the pre-2010 releases? Or is it that all post-2010 forumlations (regardless of when the perfume was first released) are not as good/interesting? In other words, is it that, say, Sarrasins (a 2001 release) is a more interesting perfum than, say, La Religieuse (a 2015 release)? Or is that a 2001 bottle of Sarrasins going to be significantly better than a 2015 bottle of Sarrasins?
I’m part of the “anyone else” crowd 🤣
My experience has been that reformulations always took something out of the magic of SL perfumes. For example, I have Chergui in the clear bottle where the label is the generation after the one with the house. I thought my bottle is fine. Since I had FOMO, I wanted to amass several more bottles. Unfortunately, none of them met up with the bottle I have. Also, and I don’t remember when this happened, ever since the more expensive category came out, none of them were worth any beans; the only one that captured my attention (and $s) was L’incendiaire.
Thanks hajusurri!
*hajusuuri
I think both those things are true. Lutens was not shy about saying that all fragrances are regularly reformulated, and there are a few reasons for this: tastes change and above all you have to sell; certain components are limited due to regulations, and must be replaced or supplemented with others; other components become unavailable, such as Mysore sandalwood, which hardly exists in the wild because perfumery used so much of it; and perfumers have always relied heavily on pre-made bases and accords which might go out of production (they don’t do everything from scratch — they might, say, use a leather base, which, if it gets discontinued, will have to be replaced when the scent is compounded again).
So. Anything that gets reformulated will not smell as it used to, and anything that gets created today will not contain the full range of elements that it would have twenty or forty years ago, although it will have access to lots of interesting synthetic components that didn’t exist back then. And there’s one more problem: the rate of creation has gone up exponentially, so there are literally thousands of new scents released every year, and it simply isn’t possible that all of them are interesting, well-designed, and expertly made. Most of them will have to be average at best, and a lot of them will be bandwagon scents — when Angel became a huge hit and created a category, every house had to have a copy of it, so the market was saturated with gourmands, most not very good. Same with aquatics after Calone became popular, same with green-tea scents after the Bulgari…. And even if every scent that came down the pike was worth trying, how would you know? You can’t sample two thousand new scents every year.
Thank you pyramus. I’m with you on reformulations generally, but it seems like SL is criticised more heavily than most other brands for being a shadow of its former self. So much so that it seems (to me anyway) like people who absolutely loved the earlier perfumes would not even bother to replace their bottles now, whereas with other brands, they might bemoan the reformulation but they still like the perfume enough — and see enough similarlity between the old formulation and new formulation — to replace their bottles.
But I wsan’t sure if I was interpreting that correctly, or if it is just that new releases were the disappointment. Sounds like it is both.
What are the three? Inquiring minds want to know!
Mesk Al-Laïl is a joyous rose-and-jasmine concoction meant to smell like an Arabian garden. Pierres Sèches, Laine et Cuir (“dry stones, wool and leather”) smells like a Scottish peat fire. La Dame de Heian smells like an austere Japanese garden. I keep them all in my bathroom and rotate them regularly: they make me incredibly happy.
The other two are L’Armoire à Linge, “linen closet”, which smells predictably like those clean steam-pressed scents I can’t stand, and Le Palais des Sables, which seemed unimpressively thin and dry when I was smelling the collection.
With you on all that, pyramus.
I like quite a few post 2010 : Santal Majuscule, Fille de Berlin, Ecrin de Fumee, Bapteme de Feu, La Vierge de Fer , Gris Clair, Jeux de Peau, Bas de Soie, Fils de Joie …happily wear them all , as well as my earlier ones.
Oh, I’m not going to knock the whole line: you like what you like. The only ones after 2010 that I love are Jeux de Peau, Fille de Berlin, and Écrin de Fumée. Santal Majuscule is nice enough but I didn’t think it worth owning after Jeux de Peau, which seems to contain it. I sampled a few of the Section d’Or scents in 2015 and one of them, Cracheuse de Flammes, was quite good, but the prices were completely insane, in the region of $800 CAD.
Gris clair…. isn’t post-2010, though: it came out in 2006, the same year as my beloved Chypre Rouge.
I liked Fille de Berlin too, though I have since found other scents that are similar that are a tad better.
What are your Fille de Berlin dupes?
Jalapeno, I would have to say Portrait of a Lady would be my main one.
Good to know this!
Sorry, I meant Rose Tonnerre. Both by FM🙂
IIRC, Fille de Berlin is a dark & jammy rose.
I agree — you like what you like and there are some recent SLs that I really like. But it seems like SL is criticised more heavily than other brands for falling off a cliff and I’m curious as to what is driving that (presumably valid) criticism.
Maybe it was one of the first niche brands that perfume people discovered and were truly smitten with, and so highly invested in. Having that strong emotional bond ( and memories) makes the disappointment following its fall even greater? A real before and after feeling, where nothing can ever match the past greats ( loves). Probably people are more cynical now, so an equivalent fall ( Amouage for e.g) doesn’t hurt or surprise as much?
Very interesting answers to your questions, Vee! I agree with Kanuka’s follow-up comments. As I feel down the rabbit hole around 2012, I’ve never smelled any pre-2010 versions of the original SL’s. But several I have are yet very special and seem richer than most commercial perfumes. Some that stand out to me are Mandarine Mandarin, Arabie, Serge Noir, Bas de Soie, and Clair de Musc. I also have a 2014 or so Vaporisateur of Iris Silver Mist that is delightful.
There are some very insightful comments here. Adding my 2 cents worth, it’s definitely disappointing when a perfume you love changes, for whatever reason. It’s also disappointing when a house changes direction, but some people are going to be delighted.
Thanks for taking one for NST, Glannys. Sounds like I can give it a pass.
For that big curly swirly starburst thing on the right, I’m wearing 1985-vintage Perry Ellis EDP, an aldehydic floral which is basically Chanel No. 5 brought into the eighties with a dollop of sweetness, most of the angles cheerfully rounded off, and a little smoosh of suave oakmoss in the back half. It’s entirely delightful.
I had to look this up. I don’t think I recall ever seeing Perry Ellis perfume here until 360 came out.
Hi everyone.
Wearing Stash today, lotion and hair mist. We are cool here today.
My big climbing rose bush is starting to bloom and the purple clematis is full of blossoms. I’ve had many clematis die over winter but this one is in it’s second year.
I am waiting for my clematis to bloom, but can’t remember when it usually does. No buds at the moment. Enjoy yours!
I just grabbed the first bottle that I hadn’t worn in a while, which turned out to be Moschino. Love the top notes in this.
Good way to pick 🙂
I am a beautiful Iris Ganache from a decant
I am off to the Guerlain counter later today- let me know if there is something I should be sniffing?
I tried Santal Pao Rosa
And Rose Barbare
Any winners?
I like Rose Barbare…have you tried?
Sorry to say that I know I did but have no memory of it. Too many years, too many perfumes! It didn’t make my buy list, but that could have been for other reasons (like price).
Love both of your choices from Guerlain. Santal Pao Rosa was the perfect sample to have on hand for a “Keep Calm and Waft On” perfume.
Rose Barbare is one of my reference scents for a rose perfume.
It was my first time trying these. Rose Barbare was beautiful and not sweet even though it has the “guerlainade”
Do you have any favorites?
I wish I could afford to add Santal Pao Rosa and Rose Barbare to my collection. But 100mL is way too much of anything now.
Currently Guerlains that I have are Mahora, older versions of Samsara EdT and EdP, and Mon Guerlain EdT.
I chose Philosykos for the plant series in the middle section of the mural — seems to me a fig tree would fit right in there. Plus the scent is green and gorgeous and suits the cool, slightly humid morning we’re having.
Perfect! The middle section is best, it is the only one that does not look vaguely threatening.
Didn’t check the page before spraying so I’m in 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop. Will think about what I can do with that picture theme.
We need chocolate based artwork next time 😉
Oh I am totally out of compliance today, wearing a newly purchased ($5) vintage bottle. I was at a swap meet yesterday, picking up some Adirondack chairs for my son, and saw a partial bottle with no label and stylized initials on the sprayer that were either MK or MR, so intrigued perfumista that I am, I had to try it. It was a rich spicy sexy musky thing that reminded me of Rochas Femme meets Cinnabar. I kept sniffing my wrist as I arranged for the chairs to be loaded into a truck. Then I ran back to buy the mystery bottle. Got home, did a reverse image search, googled around, and finally discovered the ID of my mystery bottle. You’ll never guess.
Mary Kay Intrigue. Came out in 1971. Compared to Tabu and Cinnabar indeed. Much beloved by fans. Long D/C. If I’d known what it was before sampling, I probably would have passed it right by. But I tested it blind, so my snobbery never had a chance to kick in. What a revelation. And that’s my Memorial Day weekend story.
Great story! I’m guilty of snobbery too, and it gets in the way of finding good things.
Thank you SarahN. It was a teachable moment for sure. I find that I can also be guilty of reverse snobbery and look down my nose at new & hyped frags that are very expensive. So yeah, all-around snobbity snob, alas.
How cool is that! Enjoy your bottle.
Successful swapmeet/garage sale/freebie finds are SO satisfying. It’s like rescuing something, appreciating it when others didn’t, giving it new life, keeping it out of the landfill, clearing someone else’s clutter, and adding something you valuve to your life all in one fell swoop.
I found a large hopechest that someone put out for bulk garabage pickup a few years ago; I took it, cut a hole in the side, lined it with a rubber mat, and now it is where one of my cats’ litter boxes lives. I freakin love that thing!
Recycling at its best. The cats benefit and kept out of landfill
Awesome perfume find and story!
very cool art, I’m going to have to think for a bit on what to wear to match it. Today I’m in Paloma Picasso, which always makes me feel elegant.
I find it elegant too, Desirae, and have always puzzled over why LucaTania called it ‘cheap.’
Today I’m wearing “Vetifleur,” from Rogue. It’s delicious – jasmine, rose, oakmoss, vetiver – a wonderful chypre that feels very old-school.
That sounds wonderful!
Someone gave me a sample set with almost all the Rogue fragrances. Unfortunately, Vetifleur was a little too green for me. I purchased Champs Lunaires a few years ago. This is a beautiful tuberose and could certainly be considered unisex. I recently bought Derviche and I think you may like this one too. It is a little sweet, but on me it is mostly tobacco, vanilla and floral. If you haven’t tried some of the others from this house, I would definitely recommend it. Many were too masculine to me, but I do appreciate his scents.
I think the green is why I’m so attracted to Vetifleur – something so fresh about it. As for other Rogues, I especially love Chypre-Siam, Jasmin Antique, and Bon Monsieur, but I’ve at least *liked* everything I’ve tried from the house. (I also appreciate the smaller bottles available, and the not-so-outrageous pricing of his line.) And, thanks – I’ll check out Champs Lunaires!
I forgot about Jasmine Antique. That is a great one too! I agree about the smaller bottles and pricing.
Wearing Eau Premiere today. Due to some nasty indigestion last night, I am running on 2 hours of sleep. It just wouldn’t really go away. I must have eaten too many carbs, too much soda and probably ate way too late. I am hoping for an easy day at work today.
Take care- maybe some anise seed tea
feel better!
🍀for an easy day and an early night.
Hope you have a much better night tonight, Dawn.
I’m still on my morning coffee and not showered or scented yet, so I’ll have to check back in later.
Meanwhile, this is an article about a pretty interesting experiment in AI-created custom perfumes, now available at a shop in London, and at only 45 pounds. I’d love to try it out!
https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/ai-perfume-everyhuman-review
Interesting. But wish I could just tell it to make me a green jasmine incense, just right!
For the night constellations and the sleeping moon in the mosaic, I’m wearing Absolue Pour le Soir. I don’t think of it as an evening scent, I wear it anytime. I was flabbergasted to see it on ebay for almost $800.
Kanuka has not posted in a while. I hope she is all right.
Hello ratbag! I’m good. Thank you for asking!
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon EDT
I have the humongo bottle. Very nice indeed! ❤️
I have been slowing down my job search, at least until I return from vacation. In the meantime, I still look at LinkedIn. I made the mistake of linking with a former co-worker whom I am convinced was not and is not someone I would want to associate with. Here’s an excerpt of a message he sent me last week which I have not and will not respond to: “Do you remember X? I just found out that she holds a high-level executive position at Company Y. X isn’t particularly intelligent or capable. After I left Company Y and began working for myself, I was making millions within six years. I feel like you just took it easy, like Z. Well, anyways, it’s nice to reconnect. Enjoy your days before retirement.” This guy is seriously f-d up! We’re all at different stages in our lives and how we choose to live it is really up to us! All I can say is he is probably very miserable.
Love your scent!
Yes, he definitely sounds messed up and narcissistic as well.
yeah, I’m guessing that if he was really doing so well he 1) wouldn’t have the time to maliciously gossip about your mutual acquantances and/or 2) wouldn’t feel the need to
Wow wow wow, what an awful person. This is what he calls “reconnecting”? Yikes!
OMG! Yeah, I try not to look at LinkedIn that much, because I find it annoyingly performative, and because so many of the people I’m linked with there are from my MBA program, and they live in a very rarefied world that someone who had to make dual career sacrifices doesn’t inhabit. But, I have to check in every couple of days because it’s the only way I find out when people outside my function at work are leaving. We had one of those today, where most of the company only found out he was leaving from LinkedIn.
You smell fantastic, though — I have the same bottle. 😀
Yay for the humongous bottle o’Chanel!
And about that former coworker… sheesh, what a douche! That’s probably about as polite as I can be after what you’ve shared.
I still have a soft spot for Big Bottles – even though we are not supposed to set out our perfumes in the light and even though I know how long 100++mls of perfume will last. It’s just fun to see them.
I’m wearing Bois Farine today for the wheat in the mural.
I survived my annual camping trip, hee hee! I had a great time, but I like to joke that the best part of camping is coming home to my shower and my bed. It was wonderful to be outside and offline for an a few days. I brought MCMC Mocuin #2 oil with me but only dabbed some on on my last day. Going to catch up on comments today, and tackle some smokey smelling laundry.
You smell delicious.
Sounds like your camping trip wasn’t bad at all, ha!
So glad! And you smell fantastic and un-camping-like!
Almost went with Robin’s choice today, but decided on Zara Leather Jardin for the citrus.
You smell great!
Thank you. I didn’t know if I would like it as I am not a big fan of leather in perfume, but I really find this scent to be well done with the grapefruit and leather combination.
I’m thinking Leather Jardin might be a cool weather scent for me. I get lots of supple black leather from it.
And I pulled the trigger on another Zara perfume over the weekend. It should be here on Thursday.
I think you are probably right on it being a cool weather scent. It wasn’t overly warm today, but I have been smelling it all day. It either projects really well or I sprayed way too much of it.
I had to laugh when you mentioned you pulled the trigger on another Zara perfume this weekend. I did as well. Which one did you get? I went with Livre Blanc as Allo told me she really liked it and when I investigated a little further, it sounded like something I would enjoy. They are so inexpensive that I figure I can always give it away if it doesn’t work.
I got the Fleur de Patchouli. Because patch. I will report on it when it arrives.
Oh, good!
Looking forward to that – a good flowery patch is one of my favorites!
I’m matching the mosaic with Tauer’s Sotto La Luna Tuberose , in theory. But as it’s 4.30am I’m still not quite up with the play, perfume-wise, though I am up and have been outside for a star check. It’s cold, that’s for sure. I was away, up to the North Island last week for a memorial and saw friends I have not seen for many, many years. We are all older, not necessarily wiser…too much wine and fun. I began to wonder if white wine has been reformulated ( since 2010) to do maximum damage in the shortest time…not like the old days!
and what are you reading these days?
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/magazine/gerald-murnane-next-nobel-laureate-literature-australia.html
I’ve been re-reading my Gerald Murnane novels and his memoir, Something for the Pain. He is an Australian author who lives in small town Victoria ( state) , with a fascination for horse racing. One of my top ten authors …any of his books. Every sentence is studied…not a quick read.
https://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/a-strange-australian-masterpiece
I would probably start with The Plains
I am reading now the Unbearable lightness of being and at the same time Forbidden Notebook.
Let me see if we have this author. On one of the book polls there was an Australian author mentioned and our library branch didn’t carry his works.
Got a chuckle about your reformulated wine.
I’m in a sprtiz of Demeter Ginerale because my allergies are still acting up and I wanted to see if an effervescent scent could wake up my nose a bit. It sort of worked. I can smell it, but maybe not at full strength. Once this fades I’l rummage through the sample pile for another heavy hitter.
Tea today is F&M’s Explorer’s Blend
Allergies are no fun.
Ugh, what a pain. Are the pollen counts really bad this year?
Yes, but also I think I’ve become more sensitive to allergies (and bronchitis) than I used to be, so it isn’t all mother nature’s fault
Yikes.
No smoothie today, it will be an avocado.
EAU de Rochas for the first time this year, in summer I wear it several times and tonight it’s Diptyque Eau Lente which is a treat.
I like the idea of Eau de Rochas as marking the beginning of summer 🙂
😃It is so effervescent and refreshing. It and Eau de Guerlain are trusted staples.
I just got back from another school meeting. I ended up really speaking my mind (aka losing it) after the school psychologist said ” at some point we need to listen to your daughter about not wanting to be in school” really? Should I just let her eat ice cream non stop and let her wear sandals in the snow too? Because those are also things she wants to do. Anyway I’m not sure if she will be going back or not, and I have to go to work. ( for context, she is over 18 and no longer required to go to school. This is a special school for the cognitively impaired ) ugh.
I am wearing bbw Coco Paradise, which is fine because I haven’t ruined any of my good perfume with association.
Sounds like a nightmare response from the school. About as helpful as suggesting you probably don’t want to go to work, either, so shouldn’t.
Exactly. Lol.
Lillyjo, I am so sorry. I gather that your daughter can’t live independently but doesn’t want to be treated as a school girl anymore. I hope there are resources available to help you both.
Thanks foxbins. She won’t ever be able to live independently. I keep looking for resources.
Ugh! I’m sure you have explored available options. Is there a trade school / group home combo where she can practice a skill and earn $s for her to spend like an allowance?
This school is supposed to be teaching her life skills and job skills. Her behavior is such that she can’t work atm. If I could afford a good group home, I might consider it but you couldn’t pay me enough to ever put her in a State run group home.
We ended up moving mom to a Roman Catholic-run senior home. Not the same but perhaps an option even if you are not “of the faith”. We’re not Roman Catholic but they were pretty good.
I’m feeling for you. We haven’t been in exactly the same position but have had to fight schools plenty in the last few years. It’s so exasperating.
I’m gearing up for another phone call tomorrow. It is exhausting.
So sorry to hear this, lillyjo. It sounds really disheartening, and I’m sure you’re at your wits’ end dealing with the school. Sending you a hug!
Thank you tulipani.
Very sorry to hear about this latest incident, lillyjo. It sucks, feeling like you are not getting any support. Hugs.
Thanks Jalapeno.
That sound infuriating. I’m sorry you are dealing with the frustration of the school creating obstacles instead of helping to clear them
Thanks Vee.
Sending fortitude in a stressful situation.
Also hope the phone call will or was more positive and useful than that meeting, thinking of you today, hugs.
Thanks Aurora.
I’m thinking of the mural as encapsulating the natural world, which gives me a lot of scope 🙂 .
I’m wearing Sherrer 2, which includes a significant proportion of the world’s flowers and fruit.
Take as much scope as you need 🙂
Finished off my work and did my doctor appointment, stopped at Ulta to refill my eyebrow pencil. Tried a more upscale brand as well as a refill for my cheapie eyebrow pencil and noted that the products look almost identical, both from S Korea. Probably going to stick with the cheapie from now on since it likely the same product anyway.
My Monoscent G is long gone so tested out some Snif Vanilla Vice at Ulta. I don’t get gourmand vanilla at all from this one, despite the marketing. Maybe similar to Vanilla Powder? I get a BR540- ish synthetic with vanilla overlay. It does have lasting power.
I wish I had that experience with eye pencils…I buy cheap ones and they go to waste because they don’t go on as nicely as the more expensive ones. Maybe eyebrow pencils are different.
I love that picture! It makes me think of Angel Muse, but then, I was already contemplating wearing that today. Tried the new Kendra Scott scents at Dillard’s today. The rose one (Ruby Musk) is a nice, dark rose, similar to Aerin Evening Rose. The jasmine, tuberose and vetiver one (Jade Blossom) is a nice BWF, not overpowering. The Amber Aura was disappointing, rather synthetic.
Thanks for the 411 on those Kendra Scott perfumes!
I’m in Shalimar MI today. Very busy lately, lots of work trying to get Mr. Ockeghem off to Europe in 1.5 weeks and figure out things with Ockeghem Teen’s camps and activities. The camps keep changing things at fairly late dates — her climbing camp, for example, is likely to cancel because they opened registration 4 months after every other camp and it’s undersubscribed…but of course this is the one camp she wants to do above all, except for…her 2-week kayaking camp, which just converted to a canoeing camp, which she doesn’t like as much. Why do there have to be so many moving parts so late? Sigh. And…tons ramping up at work, too.
MI is helping me try to stay calm today.
MI is perfect for calming you. Of course, you probably knew I was going to say that as it has become one of my favorites. Take care of yourself.
Looks and feels like summer today. My weather apps are talking about the obligatory afternoon/evening showers again. I’ve been watching the clouds bubble up as the afternoon passes.
Loving the artwork for this week’s CP! I have the perfect perfume match in mind for Friday. But wearing a summer favorite today.
SOTD = St. Tropez Dispenser EdT from Smell Bent. My bottle is courtesy of hajusuuri.
Woohoo! It is doing something good then rather than languishing here!
Yep, yep! Thanks again! 😁
How do you like that scent? I didn’t get on the bandwagon on that one and then poof it was discontinued.
I like it a lot! I have both the Dispenser and Dispenser Gold versions. It’s the perfect sunscreen and sun warmed skin scent for me.
I wonder how it compares to the Vacation EdP? I should give that one a sniff. Easy enough to find at ULTA.
Wearing Calyx by Prescriptives today.
We’ve noticed that the hummingbirds have been showing up quite regularly after dinner, usually around 7 pm, so maybe when it’s quieter out? Last night, we saw a beautifully red-colored specimen that was sitting on a branch in our neighbor’s tree. It was looking around and watching for small bugs to eat as it would chase them down mid-flight when the timing was just right. Such a magical creature and I felt honored to witness that. My hubby got a video of this, thankfully.
My bird bath arrived today so I’ll get it set up soon. Just waiting for the sun to return so it can operate the bubbler portion.
LOVE the Prescriptives version of Calyx!
It’s so good! I tested the Clinique version when it came out; sadly it was a disappointment to me. Glad I have a backup bottle of the Prescriptives one.
I was also definitely disappointed with the Clinique version. I had a manufacturer sample of it. Saved me from getting a full bottle!
I studied Miguel Covarrubias’ mural, and read about his very interesting life. I kept trying to think of a perfume that clicked. After a while, the lady whose head turns into a rainbow made me think of all my untried samples. But today, I left them in the clouds and spritzed on some Poem. Maybe tomorrow!
He really did have a fascinating life… and despite that is so much less well known than many of his contemporaries.
