Happy Friday and happy International Tiara Day aka Queen Victoria's birthday! (Plus, happy 83rd to Bob Dylan, and the splitmeet is still open.) Our community project for today: wear your perfume equivalent of a tiara.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
If I had any vintage Joy extrait left, that would be my automatic pick for a tiara, but I'm all out, so I'm in Aftelier Candide. Like Joy, it smells like it is made from real flowers, lots of them, and not much else.
Reminder: on 5/31 we're doing the Picture challenge, edition 9...wear a perfume that matches the image, which is Genesis, The Gift of Life, a 1954 glass mosaic by Mexican artist and anthropologist Miguel Covarrubias. More info here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I’m wearing 4160 Tuesdays Mother Nature’s Naughty Daughters. 🙂 It just seemed right for this lovely spring day, plus Mother Nature must surely have a tiara. 🙂
It does! You smell great!
I am not familiar with Candide, but it sounds like a BWF, and BWFs are indeed “tiara” scents.
I, however, interpreted the CP literally, so I am wearing Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose. An opulent rose living up to its name.
If I could pick any tiara to go with it, I would probably choose Strathmore Rose tiara – https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2018/02/the-strathmore-rose-tiara.html I have a thing for plant-shaped jewelry, especially when it comes to leaves and flowers.
Hi Twin!
Such a great rose scent.
Wonderful choice!
That’s a rather unusual tiara. I haven’t seen another one like it.
I agree. It is definitely different.
I can see that as a wedding headpiece.
Feeling regal in First de VC&A.
Finally spotted a few cicadas yesterday–on a netted young tree.
Some were clinging to the outside, but a few had gotten under the netting. You can’t stop mother nature! 😉
Indeed, you cannot! I noticed the same thing on one of my plants today, but I’m telling myself I made a good attempt!
Yes, our news has said it’s going to be a big year for cicadas.
Not sure that cicadas are out here.
Hello and tgif!
Reading up on Queen Victoria, I have chose a scent that I think matches her the most: Shalimar. Not only is this an absolute perfume tiara, it is also India-inspired (Queen Vic was Empress of India!) and similarly had multiple issues (flankers/offsprings).
I thought of Shalimar, because it was inspired by Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of emperor of India, but I totally forgot that Victoria was empress of India. Well done!
Yes, I thought of that too, but ended up choosing something else. You smell wonderful!
Twins!
I don’t feel as if I have anything tiara-oriented except I dunno maybe Ungaro Diva, which I wore just weeks ago for chypre week so I’m going a little farther afield and wearing something with tiaré in it. There’s no etymological connection, but it’s all I have. Literally: searching through Fragrantica reveals that the only tiaré scent I have is Serge Lutens Douce Amère, and god knows the flower isn’t a major component of it, but I’ll take it — not that I ever need an excuse to wear this, the perfect embodiment of bittersweet.
Goodness, if I ever knew there was tiare in DA I’d forgotten. Nice pick!
First time posting in YEARS, and I’ve missed you, NST! Life threw some curveballs and perfume has taken something of a backseat. I have only added one bottle in the last couple years (Santa Maria Novella L’Iris).
But a few days ago, the bug bit me. I saw the (slow) splitmeet and reached out to Vee about some of the new Irisi Medicis from PdN…
And just like that, the addiction begins again!
So good to see you again!
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Great that you are rejoining.
Nice to see you again!
Welcome back!
Good to see you back!
Good to see you again!
Welcome back!
It’s like a dormant virus 🙂
Welcome!
Warning: questionable pun ahead.
I decide this week to wear scents in my tea-era. today is my favorite tea scent, Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan.
Ha! Excellent choice!
BWF-Songes!
This has always been a big love for me. Anyone else?
This will bloom in the heat I hope.
Thinking what I can wear to match this scent…as I am off to the library this afternoon.
I am really enjoying Watch us Dance by Slimani. She is blooming into an excellent writer.
Opps-Didnt mean to put my comment here! Apologies
🤣😂 Eau no.!
😂
Good one Monkeytoe!
😂 love it!
Lol I love jokes like this! You smell great too:)
😄 Nice twist!
I can’t say any of the full size perfumes I own remind me of wearing a tiara, but if I had it I would wear Creed Fleurissimo which reportedly was a favorite of Grace Kelly a.k.a Princess Grace of Monaco. I have a sample of Estée Legacy from that revamp collection and when I wear it I feel like I am wearing someone else’s perfume who is much more elegant than myself and perhaps it is akin to an imaginary tiara.
Oh, that’s exactly like an imaginary tiara!
I’m decidedly not in a tiara state of mind, although I did appreciate pyramus’s decision to go for tiare. Back when I was working, my business partner and I joked about wearing tiaras while coding. I still think this is a solid idea – be the ruler of whatever you are doing!
Anyway, wearing Gap Lavender Tea. I was on a fig mission for a couple of days until I slammed right into the outer limit of fig tolerance. Had to dig up something rather different, and lavender felt just right.
Regardless of fig overload, I’m considering dashing to Nordstrom to try Un Jardin en Méditerranée once again. Had a bottle years ago, then started smelling pickles in it. Once smelled, couldn’t unsmell, so it was cordially shown the door. BUT, that was years ago, and who knows what might happen?
I think it’s discontinued?
I’ll be working outside most of the day and lifting heavy stuff. I’m wearing Hermes Narcisse Bleu because the hay and narcissus notes are prominent in the heat. No idea why this was discontinued – I think it’s great 🙂
Maybe I’ll wear a tiara under my work hat…..
Or paint jewels on the work hat…
Joining Glannys in the regal Sa Majesté la Rose. My bottle’s top notes are a little off but after a couple of minutes it settles into its beautiful self.
🤝 We smell awesome!
😊
That’s a bummer about those topnotes being a little wonky.
Praise be it is Friday.
I can’t really get on board with monarchy or empire, so for the CP I zagged in a slightly different tiara-themed direction:
Wearing ELdO Jasmine et Cigarette, which I think aligns pretty well with the pic of Courtney Love on the cover of Live Through This.
I have always wanted to try Jasmine et Cigarette!
Omg! I was going to do that!
Awesome!🤘
HA. Great minds! 🤘🏻👑
Great fragrance!
I am feeling regal👸in my tiara👑 and wearing Chanel No 5 today. Oh, but not too regal as I am in my sweatshirt and jeans today🤣
Wearing a tiara with you sweatshirt and jeans is a flex tho, no? 😂
No 5 is a great choice for today. I’m an almost twin in no 5 l’eau.
Hello!
Was looking through samples to see if anything popped out as regal..and came across Woman in Gold. I haven’t given it a go really before, so thought I would try it. It’s a lighter, sweet oud with a lot of powder. A bit soapy.
Have a lovely Friday! 🌹
I think that works! I tried it once, and it didn’t deserve shelf room for me. I wish it had, though; I wanted that gorgeous bottle. 😁
BWF-Songes!
This has always been a big love for me. Anyone else?
This will bloom in the heat I hope.
Thinking what I can wear to match this scent…as I am off to the library this afternoon.
I am really enjoying Watch us Dance by Slimani. She is blooming into an excellent writer.
Oooh Songes, perfect! I really like that one but my sample has long been thunked lol
Let me know if you want some
I am ok for now but thank you! 😊
Songes will bloom beautifully in warm weather!
It did!
I was thinking of Mitsouko or Theorema but I refuse to have them ruined by work. All it takes is one awful person to ruin a perfume. So I went with the next best thing, Eau Premiere. Not looking forward to this holiday weekend. It will be stupid busy.
Ugh, sorry to hear your weekend will be stupid busy. You do smell great tho
Sorry about the weekend🌹 Eau Premiere is a great one
Hope it’s better than you expect it to be.🤞At least you smell nice!
I love the mental image of us all of swanning around in tiaras today!
I’m in Cartier Carat because my imaginary tiara is super sparkly 👑I can kinda sorta smell it, and my allergies feel a bit better today, so hopefully my plan of keeping the windows closed and running the air purifier non-stop is starting to work.
In keeping with the theme, I’m drinking F&M Queen Anne tea
Great choice for the CP and glad your allergies are better:)
Very appropriate choice, glad you found a cure of sort.
Excellent! 💎
Glad to hear that you are feeling better today.
Thanks Jalapeno!
I’m in Chanel No 5 l’eau because: Chanel and sparkly. It’s not the most sparkly Chanel I’ve ever tried though, that would be 1932 but sadly I don’t have any of that on hand.
Fitting that it’s tiara day because I am treating myself like a queen today. lol. I had a massage this morning and have a cut and color this afternoon. I’ve booked cuts for both my girls too, so we will make a true ladies day out of it. 👸
Happy Friday!
Hello “almost twin” or should I address you as “your highness”?
Sounds like a great day!
Under the weather today – maybe I’m coming down with something, or maybe it’s the enormous amount of potato chips I stress-ate during last night’s playoff basketball game. (Trader Joe’s ruffled salt & pepper chips. Ridiculously addictive.)
With a nod to Tiara Day, I’m wearing some vintage Passion Eau de Toilette from Elizabeth Taylor.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I hope you feel better soon. I must try those potato chips!
Thanks! And good luck eating those chips in moderation.😊
Get well soon and Liz sure knew how to rock jewellery.
Hope you start feeling better! Oy, the last thing I need is another addictive snack since I discovered PopCorners. I have to make sure I give myself portions only, so that I don’t eat half the bag, lol!
Omg, those are so addictive. Just yummy.
PopCorners are dangerous! I can’t have them in the pantry. I *will* eat them all.
I will be watching the game tonight since I am originally from Minnesota.
Good luck to the Wolves!😊
Yes!
I’m in Memo Corfu today and it was a sample thunk.
Congrats on the thunk!
I was looking around for an inspiration and saw my bottle of Tocade. I’m wearing that because its cute little red hat made me think of a tiara! It is one bottle I leave sitting out all the time because of how cute it looks. But I hardly ever wear it. It’s nice and pleasant but wow is it ever sweet! I need to go out for a sandwich with a lot of dill pickles to balance it. 😉
Yesterday I was MIA because I spent almost 12 hours downtown at the courthouse serving on my jury. Wow! It wound up being a very interesting case with some emotional and dramatic moments, and after we’d gone until fairly late afternoon the judge gave us the choice of staying longer (with pizza!) or knocking off and returning the next morning (i.e., today), and everyone wanted to stay. Despite my having doubts about some of the jurors during voir dire, everyone contributed, listened, offered reasonable opinions, and we wound up with a unanimous verdict and it was a very nice experience. I am not allowed to say more, but I am especially glad that I went because at a certain point some input from an older person (there were two of us) was helpful in our discussion.
I had the exact opposite experience on a jury which caused me to lose faith in the jury system.
I did too once, when we ended up as a hung jury. I think our judge made a lot of difference. She was cheery and welcoming and ran a tight ship with the lawyers. The jury room had lots of snacks and drinks and she let us choose meals from a menu. Plus the jury room was nicely decorated and had big comfortable chairs.
Glad that your jury duty turned out to be a positive experience this time.
Oh, I’m so glad Calypso! It’s always nice to see the judicial system work properly.
I’m wearing Donna Karan Gold, which I’d say is a tiara scent in both quality and name. Lilies are a very diamond-y floral in general.
True, especially in France.
Oh, great pick!
To me, elegant “over the top” royal sparkly perfumes have to be Chanel aldehydic divas- my favourite being number 22. I love this one but most of the time I don’t feel dressy enough to do it justice.
But I didn’t wear this today, I instead put on a small spray of Blondine Frassai from a sample earlier this morning. It’s so pretty! Apparently this was inspired in a princess tale, so it’s probably regal enough for the CP actually.
And right now it’s late pm here in the UK and have some Chanel Comete on my wrist from a tester. This is definitely a love, and love the almondy iris in this. I may have to find a decant at some point!
Comete seems to be dividing opinion…glad you love it!
I chose 24, Faubourg for Tiara Day. My wedding “veil” was a seed-pearl tiara instead, although nothing as elaborate as Queen Victoria’s. If I had discovered 24F before my wedding, that would have been my wedding scent.
Next week’s CP — I love that mural! It reminds me of the scene in Notting Hill when Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are looking at his print of Marc Chagall’s La Mariée, and Julia says something like, “happiness isn’t happiness without a violin-playing goat.”
Your veil sounds like it was lovely 😊 and your perfume is perfect to go with it.
24F is definitely a “tiara” perfume!
Oh I’m so glad you love the mural!
Someone was wearing DelRae Bois de Paradis earlier in the week, so wearing that today. We are having much much-needed rain, alas with less-than-needed coldness.
I love that one but I’d pick Amoureuse as more tiara-like, because it’s a vamp kind of a scent.
I’m in Chanel No. 19 edt (from a vintage bottle). I always think of this scent as regal.
We’ve seen hummingbirds every day here for the last few days. I think word is getting out..haha! I’m patiently waiting for my fountain to be delivered; I plan on making a bubbler fountain for them to enjoy!
Hummingbirds are my favorite, was so excited when I moved to an area where I see them often:)
How exciting! I would love to see a hummingbird, they’re such stunning creatures! Living in Europe the closest I’ve seen is a type of moth that simulates its shape and flight.
How cool! How will your bubbler fountain be powered?
I’m just using a solar powered unit to start with.
I’m making granola and packing for our camping trip this weekend. I also have to make a Costco run at midday, I fear it’s going to be mobbed.
At least I smell really incredible in Encens Mythique. I cannot believe they are discontinuing this one, sigh. If I had regal powers, I would reverse that! I have an almost full bottle, but am actually considering a BUB. It says a lot because I don’t have a BUB of anything.
Enjoy the camping.
Have a great time camping!
Enjoy the camping! Hope you have good weather to help you enjoy it 🤞!
Hope your Costco run wasn’t too crazy. Enjoy your camping trip!
Frozen raspberries and yogurt smoothie
Continuing with Nicolaï samples, Cuir Cuba versus Baïkal leather, don’t like BL at all, no development I find, and don’t think it smells good, CC like that one better but don’t need it. So from my sampler I enjoyed l’Eau Mixte, New York and Rose pivoine and Cap néroli.
For the CP I chose Crown Perfumery, an heritage brand with crown tops, Stephanotis which I think Victoria could have enjoyed.
Fresh raspberries for me as a late afternoon snack today.
I remember stephanotis (the flower) smelling beautiful. Never have come across a perfume with it, though.
Raspberries twins😃. I’ve seen and smelled Stephanotis once too, the perfume smells heady, and like a sweet jasmine, and slightly indolic, it’s really lovely.
Crown Perfumery is a great choice!
Thank you Robin, so glad I have a small collection of them, I remember you like Eau de Russe but that one is so rare it has never popped up on the secondary market.
Interesting. I know you could still buy it in the early 2000s, but of course that is a long time ago now!
I’ve gone through most of a bottle of L’Eau Mixte. It’s a good one!
We agree, very enjoyable and perfect for the season.
My original plan was to wear Iris Poudre which feels to me like a tiara fragrance. But then I remembered that we are going over to celebrate our grandson’s one year birthday this afternoon. So instead, I’m in a couple of spritzes of Mediterraneo as I frost cupcakes for the celebration. My party hat will be my tiara today and I think Mediterraneo is just right for that!
I wrote my comments to you in a post of its own. Oops.
Enjoy that first birthday, they grow up way too fast!
Have fun with the grandbaby!
I am wearing Cartier Panthere de Cartier, the one with the panther cap, because I think Cartier would make you one heck of a tiara. This scent and 24, Faubourg are tied in my mind as “what rich ladies should smell like” scents.
Yes, all of this!
I totally agree. 24F is so out of my league, but I love it.
Today I’m wearing YSL Paris – fit for a princess! I always think of tiaras as being worn by princesses, while crowns are reserved for queens. Also, when I think of this perfume, I remember the vintage print ad, where the model is posed against a building, holding an enormous bouquet of pink roses. So romantic!
Tiaras are so much fun. I have a very good friend whose birthday is one day away from mine, and we would sometimes celebrate together when we lived nearby. One year, I bought us cheap tiaras and made her wear one with me. I have a great photo as a reminder, and it remains one of my favorites.
Your tiara photo sounds like it’s a hoot!
Paris is my favorite Rose perfume. You smell beautiful!.
Oh, Iris Poudre would have been good! That is one of my favorites and I just bought a small BUB as they were 57% off at Jomashop. No affiliation. Have fun at your grandson’s!
Oh, this was meant for springpansy. Darn. How does this happen? My stupid fingers.
Glad you found an affordable BUB for Iris Poudre!
I went with Lyric for the cp since it fits my interpretation of rich and opulent. It was a bit much the first few hours due to sinus problems today, but now it’s sitting beautifully.
Great choice, love Lyric. Hope your sinus problems get better soon.
Ick, sinus issues are a BANE!
And we are house twins today.
SOTD = Shalimar MVP
A tiara of a perfume and perfume bottle of there ever was one, never mind that I smell fabulicious!

Dinner last night was wonderful. There were 6 of us altogether and conversation was flowing nicely and jumped from topic to topic flawlessly!
Curious for the DIY and DIY-adjacent – I am going to be purchasing a cordless power drill. So I am not much of a DIYer … I still joke about it but I’m still not clear on how to open the hood of my car except to pop the little lever from inside the car. Anyway, could someone provide recommendations on a lightweight but can still do the job? Also, is it safe to assume that the power drill can unscrew screws? Yes, I am still on the quest to “perfect” the garbage bin doors. Thanks.
I have lots of tools and do most of my own home maintenance. You want a good quality, light duty cordless drill. Don’t buy a no-name drill. I have DeWalt drills, and got mine in a kit with a bag and two batteries for about $99. For less money but a good occasional use drill, Black and Decker or Ryobi.
We have mostly Ryobi, which I consider middle of the road….we have a lot of different items with the interchangeable batteries. We’ve been been happy with them.
Good to know. Thanks!
Thanks for the recommendation. I ended up getting a DeWalt drill and a Craftsman drill bit set. Wish me luck!
Yes, a drill can unscrew screws. You will need screw bits for the drill that fit the diameter of the drill and the size of your screws. If you buy a pack of assorted screw bits one is sure to fit. Then set your drill to the “torque” setting (more power, less speed) and the drill head to the counterclockwise or “backout” direction. Set the screw head in the screw and pull the trigger slowly. Hold steady with both hands.
I will do this! Thanks again!
Home Depot and Lowes have a good selection of cordless drills for the DIY market. Foxbins mentioned the “big three” already as far as brands go.
I went to Lowe’s which has a great selection. Who knew there were so many! I found out that writing down the model did not really help because Lowe’s converts the numbers and the guy helping me had to do Internet magic …
Glad you had a great dinner.
I’ve been meaning to ask.. have you tried the bbw detergent yet?
Thanks! The two laundry detergents are literally still in the box. I have decided to use it on a throw but I haven’t done the deed as yet. I will report back when I do.
If you anticipate needing other battery operated tools/equipment, then it is worth it to think about which brand best fits your needs. A brand will (generally) use the same batteries for all of its equipment, so it is easier to have tools from the same brand and a few batteries, rather than tools from different brands and different batteries for each tool.
Yes, this.
So I ended up with drill bits from a different manufacturer and my only out is if they don’t fit, I will return them. I do think the bits are fairly standard but we shall see once I open the boxes.
The drill bits should work with any brand of drill, including your DeWalt (which, as Foxbins noted, is a quality brand)
I’ve thought of so many perfumes that I could vaguely connect with a tiara, but didn’t quite land on anything, I’m not usually so indecisive.
I’ve got a self-indulgent appointment for a facial this morning, so I’ve decided on Chanel 1932. It’s subtle and so not really much like a tiara 🙂 .
Wearing what you want beats the CP theme any day.
I could not come up with a tiara link at all. And then I thought of the beautiful film Mrs. Brown. And about how horses helped Queen Victoria cope with her grief. So I’m wearing Cuir de Russie, as all Chanels are regal in a way and this one is the closest to how horses smell.
You smell very chic!
Oh perfect interpretation!
Earlier this week we went to our Green Drinks meetup where this month’s topic for presentation was Climate Anxiety. Little did I know that I would experience this to the nth degree this morning when I was awakened at 6:30 AM by my phone app’s loud siren advising me of a tornado warning and to take shelter immediately. More like Climate Terror! We were in Dubuque, IA, after taking a short trip to my favorite Zen spot in NW IL, Apple River Canyon State Park, and finishing with a trip to the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Garden. Luckily, nothing came of the warning; we were safe; and after waiting for the storms to pass we just arrived home safely. Just as the second round of serious storms are about to arrive. Whew!😅
Didn’t have much time to think about today’s cp, but tiara + queen reminded me I have Queen Latifah’s Queen of Hearts, so that’s my SOTD, a nice mix of just about everything: fruits & florals & a bit of spice & a little warm amber.
Looking forward to an outdoor art show showcasing another of our favorite musical acts, Patchouli & Terra Guitarra, tomorrow and a HS graduation party on Memorial Day Monday. Wishing everyone a nice holiday weekend ahead regardless of whatever crazy weather happens. Stay safe!
Good one for the CP.
Those phone alerts can scare the living daylights out of a person for sure!
Wow, glad nothing came of it! That is terror for sure.
I’m working a late night. I went grocery shopping this afternoon to take advantage of the Memorial Day hamburger sale. $1.97 a pound. It’s Christmas come early.. Woo-hoo!
I decided to go fun and tacky with my tiara match today. I am wearing Gucci Rush and loving it!
Great deal on the hamburger meat! 🍔
My brother called me about a BOGO sale on chicken last night at a grocery store we both shop at.
I did pick up some sale chicken too.
😂 that is such a sibling thing to do! I’d 100% call my sister about a grocery sale I think she’d like but can’t imagine calling anyone else about that
Wahoo on the sale-priced hamburger meat. Do you buy and store in the freezer or do you typically buy enough to refrigerate until they expire? I usually only buy one brick at a time.
I’m being very literal and wearing Queen of the Night today. This seems to be the sample that keeps on giving!
Got my hair cut this morning, and headed back home right quicky like, as my mom used to say. The roads were already pretty busy. I’ve done my grocery shopping, so I have no need to get out much this weekend. Happy holiday weekend, everyone!
Those “never-ending” samples are a trip, aren’t they?
Yes, and it’s so weird that some are that way and some are not!
Traffic was crazy today. Hope it’s a relaxing holiday weekend for you!
I wish you a wonderful weekend, too, lillyjo! 🤗
I love the musical reference of your sotd, it’s a bank holiday here in the UK too, have a happy one too.
Scratching my head this morning for something that would fit this CP. It’s proved to be more challenging than I thought it would be.
Seems I have a lack of “sparkling” scents in The Perfume Wardrobe; nothing came to mind as an immediate “Aha!”.
So I recalled Glannys’ comment earlier this week that Queen Victoria had a tiara of orange blossoms at her wedding and went from there.
SOTD = Amouage Jubilation 25 EdP, from the Sample Stash, paired with Dame Perfumery Orange Flower body butter on my shins. Amouage pairs with the royalty angle, and I had to have a bit of orange blossom/orange flower for good measure.
You smell quite regal in a very Queen Victoria kind of way 👑
Thank you allo!
I’m lacking in sparkling too.
Maybe No. 5 L’Eau or Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore would have worked?
And I think I have a sample of Amouage Gold Woman around somewhere. Or I used to…
Seems like the ultimate regal power is to be able to wear whatever you want to wear 😂
Agreed!
An excellent point!
Amouage is a great pick, and orange blossom lotion too.
Thanks Aurora!
I just pretend any perfume I have is sparkly 🤣
I’m wearing what I consider the crown jewel of my collection–Iris Ganache. Love at first sniff and still my all time favorite
I bet that one is good. I have never smelled it.
