It's Wednesday, National Chocolate Chip Day, International Day of Families and Peace Officers Memorial Day. Birthdays: Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, L. Frank Baum, Katherine Anne Porter, Richard Avedon, Jasper Johns. RIP Alice Munro. What fragrance are you wearing?
The only thing I bake with any regularity these days is granola, so I'm doing ingredients from my granola recipe this week. Today: nutmeg, in Le Labo Bergamote 22.
Reminder: 5/17 is World Baking Day. Do what you like with the theme. You could wear a gourmand, or you could wear any perfume with any ingredient you like to bake with (or eat), or ?? Be as creative as you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Wax eye. (Zosterops lateralis) [cropped] by Bernard Spragg. NZ at flickr; public domain.
Cool eye makeup, bird. And pretty colors.
Today’s weather is cool and sunny/partly cloudy, so I wanted to wear something that was sweet and fresh at the same time. I went with Sylvaine Delacourte Virgile – airy vanilla and aromatic notes (clary sage, rosemary). It smells bright and uplifting, and I think I earned some CP points for vanilla.
The bird does have cool eye liner 🙂
Baking can be savory as well as sweet, so I think you get points for the rosemary, too.
Using my sample of Heaven Can wait, and wondering which Caron it’s based on 🙂 According to Persolaise, it’s not Poivre-and he heard that from Frederic Malle himself. I believe it’s Coup de Fouet. It’s really nice-first time I wore it I sprayed it really close to the skin and didn’t care for the effect as much. This time I applied one spritz as a mist, and I’m enjoying the effect. Hope there’s some sun in everyone’s day today-bit of Vitamin D should be awesome!
You smell fabulous!
Oh, Daniel thank you 🙂
No sun, had to take the gel caps 🙂
Wearing Diptyque L’Eau Papier, thanks to a generous NSTer. I have been using this sample a lot since I received it. Few drops left. It is a very nice, subtle, comforting scent. I might consider a full bottle in the future.
Grey, rainy day here. We have a retirement lunch for one of our coworkers today. Great human being and an amazing colleague. He will be missed!
Happy Wednesday! 🌻
I hope there’s cake!
Yes! There was black forest and tiramisu! 😋
Perfect duo!
Have a great lunch!
Thank you, Aurora. We had a very lovely time!
Happy Wednesday to you!
Thank you, Kanuka!
Glad that your coworker got a nice sendoff.
When my daughter was still at home, I often baked hot milk cake, where you add scalded milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Her friends loved it. So in honor of milk, I’m wearing Zoologist Cow today, just a spritz because I have a haircut, then coffee within a friend.
Hot Milk Cake sounds delicious. Sounds perfect to have with fruit on top. Yum.
I have never heard of that cake!
I’m wearing Dzing! from my decant bag. It works with the CP if you consider all the sweet notes in it. Caramel anyone?
You smell delicious!
I considered this for today as well! You smell nice.
Hello.
Yumminess continues with my sotd, Fève Gourmande.
I happen to have a large tin of chocolate themed cookies. Perfect for Choc Chip Day!
I had mint chocolate chip ice cream, so I participated in the holiday too 🙂
Fruity sandalwood for me today, thanks to a generous NSTer Opula Dulce Solis
Picked up two books yesterday at the library
The benevolent society of ill-mannered ladies & Watch us Dance
I started to read Leila Slimani’s Watch us Dance first..Arm Chair travel to Morocco…
Yesterday Opus X made me swoon and then I realized that its discontinued. I hope they continue to make Journey Woman
Enjoy the arm chair travel, I know you’d rather be there!
I am back from my trip to Italy. I think i overdid it with perfumes and pasta.
Since we had to cancel our trip in April because of health issues, we had vouchers and got last minute tickets which we never do.
I am wearing one of the perfumes i got in Verona, Viole Nere. Verona was my favourite of the cities we visited, had lots of small perfume shops with amazing choices. We stayed at Abano Terme which is a town with thermal water spas, baths etc , rented a car and visited several cities around that area.
Oh, sounds wonderful! The last time I was in Verona I was a broke university student on spring break, so I didn’t seek out perfumes. But…I’m thinking about where we’re going on fall break in October, and Italy’s in the consideration set. Maybe we should stop in Verona.
I love Italy, I recommend going also to Vicenza, Padova, Ferrara, Bologna, Dolomites and of course Venice. They are all in the same area.
Thanks! I’ve been to Bologna and Venice, but Ockeghem Teen hasn’t been to that part of Italy yet, so it’s high on the list. I’d also like to spend more time exploring the area in more depth, and maybe also getting to Croatia.
But…Morocco is also on the list…so much travel planning to do!
I’m glad your trip was wonderful!
Oh Italy! Dreamy sigh.
I’ve not been to Verona, but Fair Verona is one of my faves from Strange Invisible Perfumes, a local L.A. indie botanical perfumer. I don’t have any at the moment, alas, but my scent of the day is Mythique by Parfums Delrae thanks to a lovely and generous swapper here. I tried samples from this line years ago, but for some reason they left little impression. Maybe because I’m not usually a floral gal. But Mythique is sooo ethereal and gorgeous and it’s giving me an itch to acquire all the Delrae Roth fragrances. They are d/c and HTF, so wish me luck.
Sounds like you had a smashing time.
I don’t think one can overdo perfume and pasta.
Overdoing it on perfume and pasta in Italy sounds perfect, glad you enjoyed your time there 🙂.
That sounds wonderful!
Welcome back! Your Italian interlude sounds like it was amazing.
I love Viole Nere, great choice! Welcome back.
Going to Stan Hyewit Hall today and wearing no 5 edp today. No 5 seems to be the most fitting today.
Hope it was lovely Dawn!
On the road and working with a bag of samples. Today I’m in Bois 1920 Sutra Ylang, a big, luscious, masculine-leaning floral oriental. Sort of wish I’d bought a bottle way back when — it’s my favourite of all of theirs I’ve smelled.
Sounds like a really good perfume. Hope your trip is going well.
Is Sutra Ylang discontinued?
Lush Turmeric Latte today, for a warm-ish / almost warm day. I have to go into the office but there’s never anyone around anymore, so I figure I can wear whatever comfort scent is going to get me through printing letters and stuffing 307 envelopes.
Oof, that’s a lot of envelopes. Hopefully you can avoid any paper cuts!
One very small paper cut was all I got. Sadly, no high-end mail house support for small operational mailings, so it’s me in this case. 🙂
Ooh, you smell wonderful. And that reminds me to bring out the last of my Tumeric Latte decant (from another generous NSTer) for later today when the Mythique wears off. Thank you, Ockeghem.
I hope you’re smelling wonderful this afternoon!
Ugh, that’s a lotta envelopes to stuff. Glad you didn’t get sliced up too badly.
I’m in Abel Nurture. That’s a thunk, and the best $7.50 I’ve ever spent on perfume. I might think about replacing it, especially if I could find a good price again.
After a dreary day yesterday, the sun is back today. Looking forward to a lunchtime walk.😎
I like Nurture but it’s pricey for a full bottle and I’ve had a few Abel perfumes turn a bit nasty after about six-nine months. Pause is very nice if you haven’t tried it.
What an adorable bird! The CP reminded me to call the appliance guy to look at our oven and dishwasher. An oven element burned out, and I pivoted to stove-top meals while we thought over whether to get a new one or have this 60 year old one repaired. Meanwhile, our dishwasher (20yo) is having trouble. I tried cleaning it but we’ll have it looked at too. I am so used to everything in our old house that I admit I don’t want change. Also, I am not a fan of maxed-out new features that I know I won’t use. Cranky me – but I do like many new things and experiences, promise! SotD Estee (uh-oh, back on vintage stuff). An ’80’s version, it has a wonderful honied carnation and iris heart that lasts and lasts. Add that to spicy rose and oakmoss and you have a true top-five scent for me.
I had to replace my refrigerator about 6 years ago. They showed me one with some kind of tv/ computer screen so I could watch TV in the kitchen. Uh.. no thanks. I didn’t even want the one with the ice maker but I took it.
Your sotd sounds wonderful, good luck with the repairs.
I’m like you with appliances…the more manual and simpler the better, give me dials over touch buttons etc. Half the time when I’m cleaning/wiping down the panel of the stove or dishwasher I seem to reset some program , or the clock, and it’s such a drag trying to fix it. Good luck.
Oy about the appliances! I hope you end up with the ones you need without much trouble. My last big appliance was the all manual dial air-fryer, bought and used November 2021. (We won’t count the coffee makers and other “smaller” appliances.)
I don’t like change in my little old house either and I’m not interested in appliances that are complicated. I was at a good friend’s house recently and she had me sit in her recliner, where I found out I needed a remote for the chair, to get the feet/back etc adjusted properly. I ended up upside down and almost fell out completely! Give me just a regular chair lol.
My brother had to replace his fridge in the past 2 or 3 years. He finally found a bare bones model in white that fit into his kitchen after a few months of searching. Some of the new appliances are gigantic!
Appliance shopping is a pain in the rear.
After seeing what AnnieA wore yesterday, I decided to follow suit. I am in La Douceur de Siam. I guess it has vanilla and clove in it and those are used for baking so I will be CP for one day.
Points!
You smell lovely!
Hello:)
In Diptyque Vetyverio, a lovely scent. Cleaning later today as a friend is visiting from out of town, which will be nice. Having some Twinings Chai soon 🍵. Going to be in the high 90s this weekend..that time of year to stock up on Gatorade..till October or so lol. I love it here but man are summers hot. It’s a bit brutal lol
hugs to everyone 🌹
Keep cool, I love chai too.
I love smoothies:) I should have them more often. I usually like to throw frozen cherries and bananas in mine.
Sounds delicious, can’t wait for the summer fruits.
Sounds like it’s the start of severe weather season for you.
Going with Vietnamese Coffee again today. Can be worn while baking or eating something someone else has baked.
Bottle is almost half empty and it’s on backorder at Luckyscent.
Going to go get car washed this afternoon – senior discount day!!!
While eating something someone else baked is nearly always better 🙂
On a cool and cloudy day I’m wearing the warm and comforting Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit in the spirit of the CP. I used to not be able to take gourmands at all, but I’ve softened towards them in the last couple years.
Although I would consider myself a fan of gourmands, there are still quite a few that I have found too heavy/sugary/rich to enjoy. I guess I’m a Goldilocks when it comes to perfume. It needs to be just right!
Such a cool wee bird. We get a lot of them around here and they’re really sparky. If you put out sugar water , 10-20 will pretty much turn up straightaway out of nowhere and start feeding. When you watch them in trees feeding ( you usually hear them before seeing them as they are small, like mice) they seem to start from the top and then parkour downwards from branch to branch. They came here from Australia in the early 1800s ( blown on the wind). Their Maori name Tauhou means new arrival/ stranger. Bird call link:
https://www.doc.govt.nz/globalassets/documents/conservation/native-animals/birds/bird-song/silvereye-song-22sy.mp3
Matching with Tutti Twilly cause they’re entertaining to watch
Makes most of our birds look dull by comparison…I would love to have a tree full of those!
They sound so cute.
No smoothie, I’ll have avocado.
Terry de Gunzburg Flagrant délice today, one of my best fig with almond perfumes, I’ll wear it a lot this summer, it’s a lovely spring day.Tonight it’s Clinique Cocoa and cashmere for the CP very enjoyable but forgettable, I just have a travel spray, good size for me.
I’m seeing a lot of good avocados in the grocery stores now. About a month ago, they were hard as rocks.
Yes, it’s a good time of the year for them, mine was perfect. Avocados are a super food.
I thought about wearing “Fire At Will” this morning, for its vanilla/brown sugar notes, but opted out of the kitchen, so to speak.
I’m enjoying “Beach Hut (Woman)” from Amouage. I don’t know why they bothered with the “woman” designation – there’s nothing traditionally feminine about it, to my nose, anyway. Fresh, with slightly bitter greens, spicy, and woody, it keeps surprising me the longer it’s on my skin. “Beachy,” but not like a sunscreen – more like sea salt/ocean water on the skin.
Amouage is one of the last niche brands insisting on gendering everything.
(Although as soon as I typed that I thought of several more, still, I think more niche brands aren’t bothering)
Maybe they’re finally moving away from it – I don’t think the recent ones like Guidance, Purpose, Lineage, etc. have a gender attached. But, yeah, they’ve held on to the practice a long time.
You’re right, I forgot that! Ditto with the Library series.
Gorgeous little bird!
I’m wearing Mohur (extrait of course, because I’m worth it) as I wanted to indulge myself a little.
I had a bit of a long day yesterday, finishing work towards midnight.
Today was thankfully a lot easier.
You do love your nutmeg, don’t you Robin?
That really is a long day!
I really do, I grind nutmeg onto something almost every day. And / or cardamom…both grinders are always out on the counter 🙂
Guimauve de Noel today. Works for the CP. Along the lines of yesterday’s orange blossom and pastry (WWDIS Freckled & Beautiful) but less musky and more airy.
Packing up for the first camping trip of the year. And even so, I will check out the split meet if I have reception. 😀
Enjoy your camping getaway! Hope the weather cooperates.
Oh fun, that must feel like the summer is officially starting 🙂
Wax eyes are lovely, we see quite a few of them.
I’m continuing with my theme of baking spices, and I’m wearing SL’s Rousse for the cinnamon.
Good idea with Rousse. I might wear that this week, I love that one:).
Excellent pick.
Today I am wearing Ormond Jayne Ta’if because I felt like it was a pretty rose day. I am not sure if it’s CP-worthy or not, I guess it would depend on whether one were to bake something (a pastry perhaps?) with a bit of a rosewater flavor. If so I would happily eat it!
After a very late night and a very long morning sleep-in, and some quite complicated dreams, I am getting a late start to my day. But my only real project for the day is to unbox and set up my new printer. It’s supposed to be simple but we shall see. Yes, another first world problem, like those of you with appliance issues. Speaking of which, when I first moved into my house (year 2000, and with the ex-husband), there was a manual microwave, i.e., one with a dial to set the time. Analog not digital. And it was still working! I know the house was built in 1983. It did give up the ghost not long after. And probably it wasn’t the safest thing to use but so far so good….
Good luck with your new printer set up. I know they’re supposed to be “plug and play” but sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
I’m in one of my most favorite gourmand perfumes, a long time have too, which is Tarte au Citron by Laura Mercier. It makes me want to eat my arm lol. It’s the perfect balance of citrus and sugary notes, and I cherish my bottle.
Have=fave
That’s a nice one. I’m almost always a sucker for sweet citrus.
I’m in Heeley Hippie Rose today, which *could* tie in to a baked good, along the lines of Persian love cake.
Heeley makes quite a few wonderful things.
This is quite a wonderful rose, to my nose.
Cute birb!
SOTD = Xerjoff Lira
Yummy 😋! It’s from a cazaubon special. ❤️

From comments yesterday, it sounds like I need to be thankful that the mailperson picks up my outgoing mail. I’ll have to do a little research though …
For those who like to indulge in McDonald’s, rejoice! For about a month starting June 27, there’s a meal deal happening. For $5, you get either a hamburger or chicken sandwich, small fries, soda and 4-piece nuggets. I won’t admit to my fast food preferences 😇.
That deal is pretty good.
It is! I will make sure to have at least one $5 meal.
Wow, that is a good deal, can’t get much for $5 these days!
I agree. I don’t even remember what groceries used to cost me.
Thanks for the heads up on the eats!
Glad you enjoyed the Lira! 🙂
That little bird is adorable!
Got an interesting phone call from the rental office today. It seems that the roofers had installed roof vents incorrectly when they were replacing the shingles on all the apartment buildings in my complex. Oh joy. So someone will be here tomorrow to fix that. Just have to make sure that I clear out the spare closet and move stuff in the bathrooms so things don’t get dirty/dusty.
SOTD = Prada Candy, from a very new sample in The Sample Stash. Still smells good to me.
That’s too bad about the replacement shingles. One would think that a commercial contractor would be more careful with choosing the right material!
The shingles are OK, thank God. It’s just the vents that are buggered up. Rooves require at least 2 kinds of vents: one for air circulation in the attic space, and then one for bathroom ventilation. IDK if the wrong ones were used, or the installation was not right. Dunno *how* you could put a vent in the wrong way. 🤷♀️
Yeah, you think that contractors and their crews would know this stuff.
4 more hours until 2 days off.
I’m wearing TF Orchid Soliel. It’s the perfect weather for it, sunny but not too hot. This perfume gets sickly smelling in high heat and humidity.
If you are GenX or older, I recommend the Jerry Seinfeld movie Unfrosted on Netflix. It’s funny and has a lot of references from the 60’s.. most aren’t factual but it’s fun.
I am looking forward to watching it. Hooray on the 2 days off!
I really enjoyed it!
Smelling gorgeous today!
Thanks!
Two days off- WooHoo! I hope you enjoy. As for me, my part time job is more time consuming than my full time one. Hope things are better with the kiddo.
Thanks Deva..but she is back to being grounded.
Stopping by late today. I had a massage and didn’t wear perfume leading up to it. He uses a little peppermint oil so I smell of peppermint, certainly a baking ingredient, especially at Christmas time. On the way home, I bought one tomato plant, I have not had much luck growing them after the first two years. The African violet died, it had been looking horrible the past couple of weeks, but left behind a few baby leaves, so I will try to encourage them to take hold. It’s difficult when you have a black thumb to grow anything.
Are you trying to grow tomatoes in the same spot? That could be part of the reason they aren’t thriving for you.
No, they have been in different spots. I wondered, because I chose heirloom varieties, if they were more temperamental than hybrids, so I bought a hybrid today.
I have heard that heirlooms can be more difficult to grow. But I haven’t had any personal experience with heirloom tomatoes.
I did find that cherry tomatoes are easier to grow than full sized ones.
Plants don’t last for me either.
I’ve heard that if you cut the bottom of the African violet plant, it can encourage growth.
Just remove the plant from the pot and cut the bottom 1/2 inch (or so); then just put it back in the pot and give it a good watering. This is supposed to stimulate the roots.
I’d probably add a bit of potting soil back in the bottom of the pot to bring the plant back to the original level.
I love today’s bird photo, Robin. Great pick!
I too enjoy baking granola. I like to add a bit of cardamom to my granola, so I might look for a fragrance with that note for Friday. Today, I’m wearing a dab of Jubilation XXV.
You smell wonderful. Jubilation XXV is one of my oldest decants.
Oh but tulipani I hate baking granola…seems like drudgery to me! I am just not a baker anymore. But I do want my granola done my way so I do it, every 7-10 days 🙂
Post and Run!
Perfume News:
BV today, and lasted all day. First day off and I did nothing but lay around and read. An absolute delight!
Book News:
I finished Days Without End by Sebastian Barry. Another new author to love, so I’ve several more planned. The words leap from the page with a WOOSH, consuming you like a fire that’s suddenly had gasoline poured on it. Not for the faint of heart as it travels through the starvation of the Potato Famine, to the the brutality of the Indian Wars, slicing through the Civil War like a hot knife cauterizing a wound. The language it stunning. I read it in one day it was so engrossing.
Review linked below:

I received the dragon candle today. Love it!!!
Yay!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yay for laying around!
Wonderful SOTD!
Oh I will have to look at Days Without End, I really liked his Old God’s Time.
Very late but today’s fragrance was A La Nuit from a very generous NSTer💕
I thought I must be out of compliance but it turns out ALN has honey and clove in it😊
A La Nuit is a great scent, love jasmine:)
