Happy Almost-Friday, and happy 69th to Our Lady Donatella Versace. What fragrance are you wearing?
Points for me: I'm in Hermès Calèche for a day of menial chores.
Reminder: 5/3 will be Chypre Friday! Wear a chypre fragrance of any sort — classic or modern or post-modern. This is a repeat from 2016.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Chypre-Siam from Rogue Perfumery. It’s raining, and we are having a flooding event, so work is closed. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
Egad — stay safe!
I hope you’re ok. I’ve been glued to the weather channel and seeing all the bad flooding up north and east. Awful. We’re having some street flooding but it’s not too bad and I’m definitely not going anywhere today.
Hope you stay safe 🌹
I hope you get a break from the rain soon.
Yikes! Stay high, dry, and safe!
Hello.
Sotd is Miss Dior Originale. I do wonder how they jumped from this beautiful chypre to the other pink Miss Diors.
Bought 2 bottles of At The Beach shower gel from BBW. Suncreen and coconut. Lovely stuff. Very close to Bobbi Brown Beach.
You smell lovely and thank you for your review of Comète yesterday.
It sounds like something I should try at some point. Persolaise reviewed it positively as well.
You smell wonderful! I’m also not sure how these fragrances have the same name. IMHO there is only one Miss Dior.
That BBW shower gel sounds like something worth checking out!
It is good!
Wearing Cartier L’Heure Défendue for the Cartier sync over on Basenotes. Will pick out a nice chypre for tomorrow.
Comète was nicer than I expected. Similar to 1957 with lots of powdery white musk and a springy floral opening. It lasted 3-4 hours on me. Not something I can or would spend $$$ on, but if someone gave me a bottle I would wear it occasionally. Will give my sample a full wearing later.
Oh thanks for reporting back! I’m definitely in trouble, 1957 is a favorite and I don’t mind perfumes not lasting. I’m going to give it a sniff later today if time permits.
You smell delicious, I have a manufacturer sample of it. If I see a discounted bottle I would purchase.
Thanks for your impressions on Comète! I’m curious enough about it although I prefer longer lasting perfumes in general.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Comete.
I’m in Diorling, the vintage EDC formulation. It’s a bit of a Cheshire Cat, disappearing one minute and fading back in (with a grin) the next. I don’t wear this often (even though I adore it), partly because I only have a tiny bit of it and partly because it’s not very long-lasting on me. Someday I’ll stumble across the parfum, I hope.
You will, of course, let us know should you be successful…
You will all be the first(s) to know 😆
Vintage Diorling is good stuff, I have the EDT, I also like the new Diorling, completely different.
It can be maddening when a perfume plays hide & seek with your nose!
Chypre day 4 in Lauder for Men, another underappreciated scent — citrus, then green fougère, then a surprisingly reserved and subtle chypre that last for hours and hours. Discontinued last year, by which time I bet it was a mere ghost of its former self, but the vintage is stunning. (It’s a relative of Clinique Chemistry, another vanished classic.)
Pyramus you have so many old classics!
ps popping in real quick to say I am behind on comments & have not read all of Wednesday, and will try to catch up today but might or might not manage 🙂
No pressure! We will behave. 😉
We will??
Oh I mean, we will!!!
😉
😏
🙂
You are the Queen, Robin, you can do whatever you need or want to do, and we will appreciate it!
Second that!
Gotta take care of yourself first Robin.
I’ll wear Azemour after I get back from a doctor’s appointment. It’s a beautiful spring day here. And there are random people walking back and forth through my back yard, since the neighbours are having their back yard redone. (Meanwhile, I’m letting everything that died off in the cold snap in January stay dead, since I won’t be here to water it the last half of the year. Still have to figure out what I’m doing about the garden when I’m gone.)
It’s a lovely day here as well!
Hope that your appointment went well today.
In Amouage Dia for a classy day in the office.
What a good one! You smell divine.
Dia is a nice perfume.
Dia is perfect for the office.
Beautiful scent.
Dia is gorgeous
Good morning! SOTD is Eau Premiere for the office. Itching to smell the new Chanel Comete as 1957 is a huge favorite of mine and I have heard it being compared to that one from multiple people.
Eau Premiere is fabulous.
I have been wondering about it too. I just received a sample of Poudre de Musc Intense by Nicolai and some are comparing that one to Comete. It is really quite nice. By chance, have you tried that one?
I have not! I know we have similar tastes — how did the Nicolai compare to other powdery scents?
On me the powder did not come out so much. It was more the aldehydes.
Loving all the floral photos!
I’m a CP failure again. Wearing Tauer’s Vanilla Flash which is aging very well. I was on the fence when I first got it but as more time goes by it just keeps getting smoother and deeper and more vanilla spice-ish.
The hellacious winds finally died down last night, but it was a bit disturbing to have winds that strong go on and on and on. Nothing on the agenda for today, so will get dressed for warmth and take doggo for a walk and see if we can spot any pronghorn today. A group of three whizzed by so fast yesterday I didn’t even have a chance to get my phone out for photos. Then, way behind, comes this poor solo who can only trot for about ten steps and then go at a slow walk . I didn’t see any telltale limping, but there’s no way it could run from even the most lightweight predator. Poor thing. Probably as old as Methuselah, just like me.
I love when you type in “old” to look for an emoji and get this:
☎️📟💾📼🗝️📠💽📞
Really?! 😒
Wow, do I feel old! I get what all of those are, and have owned/used them all too. Why no 8-track, typewriter or abacus?! 😆
Right?! 😂
Hi Deva, those “old” emojis are great. LOL. Not old, classic…
I definitely prefer “classic”!
Keys are old. I guess I should have seen that coming.
Would much rather have a physical key any day. I call my truck fob “Double F.” I’m sure that’s self explanatory. 🙃
Ha!
Yeah, that truck fob is a “FRED”. Ridiculous electronic device for sure.
We’re house twins Twin! I just recovered my Amber Flash which means I have to wear it at some point.
Yay, twins! I never got around to smelling Amber Flash but I bet you smell fabulous!
There really should have been a typewriter emoji in that bunch.
But computers don’t even come with CD & DVD ports anymore. You have to get a plug in peripheral for those.
Good morning, all! Wearing Amouage Overture (Man.) Citrus, spice, smoke, woods, incense… One of my favorite (recent) releases from the house.
I’m a fan of Overture Woman. It’s a bit like apple brandy/cider – quite boozy.
Ooh, I’ll have to try that one!
I want a perfume that smells the way my horse pasture does right now, the one with the 5 blooming crab-apple trees (one big white, one big pink, and the several white volunteers which are suddenly big enough to bloom with abandon this spring), the blooming hawthorn trees, the blooming pussy willows along the stream, and the flush of dandelions popping up in the pasture grasses. Since the ponies are down the road at boarding school, the pastures are making up for lost time. The wild turkeys and the 7 or 8 does and fawns mincing around don’t do nearly the damage the ravenous ponies with their big hooves have done to the ground. It smells fabulous. Any day the autumn olive, pine and cottonwood trees will start dumping pollen into the air and I will become a hot allergic mess, so I am breathing the fresh air eagerly while I can… 🙂 Happy May, everyone!
Your pasture sounds beautiful, what a wonderful smell. We have lots of hawthorn on our hills too and they are covered in berries now.
Oh, I would mind setting up camp in that location! Sounds wonderful! 🏕️
Oh, it’s been ages since I’ve smelled pussy willows in bloom! We had them at the houses my parents owned back in the day.
Slept late, post shower will be TF Rose de Russie. Just cause I haven’t worn in a while.
Deep fog this morning, can hear the fog horns off the water.
So – maybe good news on work front.
Interview yesterday turned into another one today and a final one next Tuesday. She was setting appointments during our call.
Keeping expectations low, but hey, maybe job offer for my birthday next week!
Fingers crossed!
Good luck apsara!
I hope things go well with the second interview. Wishing you lots of luck.
All appendages crossed! 😄
🍀
Good luck!
A promising start for you! 🤞🤞🤞
Hoping for the best possible outcome!
Thank you all for the good thoughts!
Interview #2 went well. I am manifesting this.
Yay! One step closer!
This is positive news, indeed! Fingers crossed!
Good luck!
Wearing no 19 extrait today. I found one of my Deneuve minis and I don’t know if I want to wear Mitsouko or Deneuve tomorrow for the CP.
Beautiful! You can’t go wrong with either.
I’m wearing Mitsouko, extrait de parfum. Probably the Edouard Fléchier version. It’s wonderful!
You smell gorgeous Austenfan! Hope the rain is easing up and you can enjoy a proper spring before summer hits.
Thanks, when I wear any of those classic Guerlains, I wonder why I bother trying or even wearing any other perfume. They are just that good.
Well we had some sun in April not a whole lot, but still. The great advantage of all the humidity is that the forests and trees are just so green and healthy looking. Still a fair number that have been damaged by last years drought, but on the whole they seem much better prepared for summer.
Luxemburg does not seem to have as much of a spring (or autumn) as the Netherlands. It heats up, and gets cold much more quickly.
Mitsouko in extrait sounds like it would be incredible. I’ve only come across EdT and EdP.
Probably the ultimate chypre! Double points for you, I vote.
Frozen mango, juice of a lemon and yogurt smoothie
For the CP I chose vintage Quartz de Molyneux and I wave to Jalapeno who likes it too, it’s an easier Diorella, I hesitate between the two and tonight it’s VC&A Rose Rouge which I really like.
Is Rose Rouge really sweet?
It is rather sweet, not a sugar bomb though, it remains quite elegant I think.
If the weather cooperates here, I might open up my bottle of Quartz sometime soon. It’s still sealed in the plastic wrap.
It should be perfect for spring.
Your smoothie sounds yummy! Adding frozen mango to our grocery list. Do you use regular yogurt, or Greek?
Regular in general, Greek when I want more sustenance 😀
I just received a sample of Poudre de Musc Intense by Nicolai. I don’t know that I need it, but I do like it. I see it is being compared to Chanel Beige and Comete. Not sure if any of you have tried the three of these, but would be curious what you think.
To me, Beige just smells like luxury shampoo–much prefer Poudre de Musc, which has more complexity. Wondering how I’m going to sample Comete. Nordstrom used to carry the Exclusifs, but they’re not on the site currently.
I thought the Poudre de Musc really smelled less like musk and powder and more like aldehydes.
I smelled Chanel Beige back when I was a sophomore level perfumista. I didn’t “get” it at all; it was “Meh”. Haven’t tried Poudre de Musc at all.
I have and love Musc Intense; haven’t tried Poudre de Musc Intense but I assume they’re related!
Hello!
Bright and sunny today, preparing some packages, wearing Floris Honey Oud.
Have a lovely day everyone! 🌹
Hope your day was lovely too Omega!
A huge thank you to everyone for your kindness yesterday regarding Sprocket. Your words filled a big space in my heart.
It’s Friday so I’m wearing my desert island, save in a fire perfume, Chypre Mousse. For some reason this perfume feels like ‘home’ to me.
I watched a good ( not amazing) non-violent British spy thriller last night Page Eight ( Bill Nighy, Michael Carbon, Rachel Weisz) and at one point Bill Nighy’s character notices and remarks on the perfume a woman is wearing: Hermes Bel Ami. I have never sniffed it unfortunately.
Kanuka, I missed the post yesterday. I am very sorry for your loss of Sprocket.
Glad you had something nice to watch. Interesting as Bel Ami is a masculine.
I was just going to say that, Aurora. Did Bill Nighy say, oh that was my father’s fave? Not to gender perfume, as I wear loads of mens’ stuff, but an unusual and very specific choice. Wonder where the writers plucked that one from. Unless maybe it’s an inadvertent clue?
Oh, yes I would totally wear Bel Ami, but it’s a little bit odd in this context.
The character wearing the perfume was an art dealer who had a safe full of money.
In the scene Nighy’s character sniffs the air and says Bel Ami
And that’s about it.
Adding more condolences Kanuka, since I did not read yesterday’s comment until just now. It sounds like Sprocket was ideal company.
Hermes Omanthe Yunnan today, with the bottle close by so I can reapply every 45 minutes ;P
Yep! One of the reasons the 15 ml bottles are so handy.
Azemour Les Oranges for today. After wearing the similar The Garden Party Frangipane on Tuesday, I think I can say I slightly prefer it to Azemour. It wears a bit smoother and doesn’t have the sharper citrus top notes of Azemour. Though I still think Azemour is great!
My sample of Zoologist Rabbit arrived yesterday, and I tried it last night. I kind of don’t know why I keep trying Zoologist anymore. I haven’t had a real love from them since maybe Bee. I wanted to love Rabbit for its adorable packaging, but it is cloyingly sweet to me. It smells like dense cake frosting mixed with cocoa butter. I get a tinge of apple cinnamon in the opening, but then the dense sweetness takes over. I didn’t get any of the green or vegetal notes. For what it’s worth, I also found Harvest Mouse cloying for the malt and vanilla combo but I know it has a lot of fans here. And the funny thing is I’m a gourmand fan. I like sweet perfumes! But that these two are sweet for me.
Glad you didn’t get a FB of either Rabbit or Mouse, then!
Oh yes, I almost never blind buy bottles this expensive and never from Zoologist, cute as they may be!
So funny how divergent our perceptions are. I wouldn’t describe myself as a lover of sweet, but I do enjoy Harvest Mouse! Rabbit is not sounding appealing, though.
I really think it’s the malt that bothers me in Harvest Mouse because I’m generally not a malt fan and have really disliked it in the two perfumes that include it.
I’m celebrating Friday with 31 Rue Cambon.
Happy Friday Gaynor! (Although by the time you will see this, I should say Happy Saturday maybe)
SOTD = Tauer Dark Passage
Tobacco, dark patchouli and birch tar 😍😍😍
I have a May the Fourth be with you wedding to attend on, well, May 4th! I am looking forward to it!
I am too lazy to take a picture of Dark Passage but as consolation, here’s one of a kitteh:
https://www.instagram.com/p/C6ekqRORbw2/?igsh=ejNucjZpMjAyd2g0
oh my, that one sounds good, and is a new one on me.
It’s an oldie but a goodie!
Oh, I hope the wedding will be as much fun as it sounds! Looking forward to your recap of it.
So many chypres, so little time. Time – Timeless! Yes, that’s today’s choice, from a bottle circa 2016. I feel so well-perfumed (and I do have vintage versions)! Kudos to Avon for being true to their clients’ favorites.
I love Timeless!
Timeless had an awesome bottle back in the day. I remember my Mom had it for a little while. Then she moved on to other Avon perfumes.
Chanel Paris – Paris
Happy belated birthday Barqs! Hope it was a wonderful day.
I am in L’Arte di Gucci, and I really should wear it more often. A lovely old-school floral chypre with sweet fruity notes. And I like the black mini bottle.
You have a beautiful Perfume Unicorn with that one. 🦄
I’m glad I got two vintage mini bottles of it!
It is interesting how it transforms on my skin. It smells loud and aldehydic from the bottle, I’d even say intimidating. But once I dab it and give it a minute, fruity lipstick rose takes over. It is a very “makeup” perfume, in a good way. And personally I think spring is the best time for it – warm enough for it to bloom but not too hot to suffocate.
Definitely magical for you with that transformation!
Smelling wonderful, Glannys!
Glannys, I was thinking floral chypres for today as well, perhaps the original Dali “Lips,” but I could not find it at my fingertips and am very happy to have grabbed Sideris. This is a hauntingly beautiful fragrance, but not at all a chypre. Tomorrow I shall be compliant!
Oh, Sideris is good! I like MCG’s incense scents – Sideris, Exultat…
I assume “Lips” is Dali Parfum de Toilette. I have never tried it, but it must be opulent and luxurious. Old-school amber chypres are beasts.
If I decide to wear another vintage chypre tomorrow, it will be Diva. But I will probably choose Une Rose Chypree, because it is a chypre with a “chypre” in its name and I have not worn it in a while.
I’m going to join nebbe in Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan.
It’s been quite a day — we had a strange scam email where the scammer was (somehow) able to jump in the middle of an email thread with three people and impersonate one of the people. Very sneaky and scary. We’ve spent a bunch of time on that today, but I did get a little exercise in.
I’m so sorry that happened to you and I’m glad you discovered it.
I’ve never heard of such a thing (sounding like an old person).
I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t have the email evidence. Very strange.
Creepy shenanigans with email for you, ugh!
Big ugh!
Wow. That is an odd one! Do share if you figure out how the did that. I mean, spoofing emails, duh. But what you described is next level
I’m in vintage Dioressence today and very much enjoying Chypre week.
House twins today!
Yay!
Another chilly but sunny day for me. The wind is slowly dying down from the past couple of days, and the high mountains have a fresh coat of snow on them.
I’m waiting for delivery of some perfumed goodies from Estee Lauder. Glad I grabbed some travel sprays of the Legacy collection while they were still around. Last time I checked, they were all sold out.
SOTD = back in vintage Diorissimo EdT again. I used more from my sample this time, and was able to smell it for a while. It pairs very well with the Korres Mint Tea body butter.
It was very chilly here last night, down in the teens, but the wind blew itself out in the evening. What is your elevation? I’m glad you were able to snag some travel sprays. I’m not too familiar with EL perfumes (other than BG) Are they limited edition? Is that why they flew off the shelves?
It got into the 30’s (degrees F) here last night. Still windy this morning. I’m around 5000 feet, give or take a couple hundred. Last weekend the snow line was down to 6000 feet, and some of the foothills outside of Denver got the white stuff too. But that was gone in a day or so.
Dunno if the Legacy collection is limited edition, or will be phasing out some of the older EL perfumes. But the travel sprays definitely were. So is the Sample Set, but it’s still around, I think.
After some investigating, it looks like the Estee Lauder website now has a coffret of all 5 travel sprays for $90. Must be for Mother’s Day. Three of the 5 individual travel sprays are also back.
Day 4 of Moon Moss
It must be good stuff!
It’s a cool green hyacinth heavy scent. Gorgeous stuff
Ah, love hyacinth!
Long time no sniff! I’ve been sick with a cold for 2 weeks (a gift with purchase from my road trip down the CA coast; manifested 2 days after my return) and am still feeling affected (low energy, lingering dry cough). Tested COVID negative twice, but who knows.
I’ve missed so much of chypre week! But at least I’ll get Friday in.
I violated my no buy yesterday with a Bois des Iles parfum purchase, but price was good and all signs pointed to a genuine petfumista culling her collection. Fingers crossed.
Due to travel and illness, have been commando for weeks. Looking forward to diving back into my collection.
That’s a long time to be sick, I’m so sorry! Hope you are back to normal soon…that Bois des Iles can’t wear itself 😉
I do love chypres! So many chypres, so little time … Debating between Dryad and Diorella, so I’ll probably wear both (separately of course).
