Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National Pet Day and World Parkinson’s Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm licorice-adjacent in Kenzo Air.
Reminder: 4/12 is National Licorice Day. You know what to do!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Licorice day four: Hermès Brin de Reglisse, light and airy, what you’d get if you crossed a bag of licorice allsorts with Bulgari Thé Vert.
I adore Brin de Reglisse; it was my first Hermessence! You smell fabulous.
My first one too! That’s my CP choice for tomorrow. 🙂
You have good taste! I’m still thinking about a back-up bottle, honestly….
I might wear it tomorrow too.
Oooohhhh that sounds good. I’ve never smelled it; will add it my list of “things to sniff” at the posh department stores this fall.
I’ve never smelled it either, skalolazka, but have added it to my list as well. Sounds yummy.
Ooh, I love that picture.
I’m in Gypsy Water again and thunked my mini. AnniePerfumes, this one is hard to describe. It’s got notes of juniper and pine with a base of amber, vanilla and sandalwood- 3 of my favorite notes. It gets a lot of comparisons to Tocca Colette and I do find them similar. I prefer this one but the lasting power is not great. Especially for the price.
I ordered some more makeup from merit and it will be delivered today. Going to try the mascara and see how it compares to my Kevin Aucoin. Also ordered the lippy Sistine recommend.💋
I am struggling to find good mascara. I think my eyelashes have thinned. ☹️
Do you use a primer? I always do, and think it helps. I don’t have super thick lashes either. I’ve tried Kevin Aucoin the volume mascara which I didn’t find particularly volumizing, right now I’m using his Indecent mascara which I like better because it is thicker. Though not indecent imo lol.
I’ve been enjoying Ilia Limited Lash Lengthening mascara — makes my eyelashes look as bodacious as they did in my 20s, and it’s not clumpy or flaky.
Haha, make that *Limitless*! “Limited Lash” does not sound appealing…
Interested to hear what you think of the mascara. I also have Kevyn Aucoin and need new mascara. (I haven’t really worn mascara since COVID, but I’m starting to think I should again.)
I will report back. Right now I’m using his Indecent mascara which I really like. I don’t think I’ve found my holy grail mascara yet. I almost always wear mascara (but not a lot of other makeup) because my eyelashes are blond and I feel I look a bit corpse-ish without it.😂
Thanks for the review. I love all of those notes, sounds like time to sample.
I’m doing the lush tint. It saves me from mascara and I’m always ready. I don’t wear makeup and it shows, lol, so the lift/tint does something.
I have a decample of Gypsy Water from way back when. It smells vanilla (as in the note) to me and, like you said, does not last long.
Gypsy Water was very quiet on me, even immediately after applying. So I did not pursue anything past the small sample I had.
Curled up with my sweet dog right now. And my mom died of Parkinson’s last fall, such a horrid disease.
Fortunately I’m wearing a delicious dose of vintage Cuir Beluga to brighten this gray day. Also, I’m going out to pick up a maple flan shortly, yum. 🙂
Maple flan sounds delightful. Enjoy those canine cuddles.
Cuir Beluga is one of my top favorites!
One of my uncles died of Parkinson’s as well. He had it for a long long time.
Enjoy the cuddles.
One of my friends died from Parkinson’s last summer. He was only in his late 50’s.
Parkinson’s sucks.
I am so sorry, that is very young. 🙁
I can get behind national pet day.
Wearing lavish amounts of Guelain Cologne Imperiale. Made sure to get it in my hair and on my shirt, to help with lasting power. I do love this fragrance all year round. I was introduced to it at Christmas time decades ago so it kind of reminds me of that season even when I wear it in summer.
“Lavish amounts” is definitely the way to do cologne!
Hello all!
Day 4 of my extrait journey, and today is special: Vol de Nuit. The first time I tried this one, I was blown away by it’s complexity. And though I like the EdT as well, they are particularly different from each other.
Have a great day everyone!
I love VdN! The bottle design is also gorgeous.
It really is. Iconic!
I love both, too! The extrait is my HG to rule all others. ⭐️
You smell amazing, coumarin!
I’m late to reading this but want to tell you how good you smelled yesterday. I think VdN is my favorite extrait of them all.
I am inadvertently in compliance with the CP. I put on Penhaligon’s Eau Sans Pareil from from a new decant. According to Fragrantica, there is a licorice note. It’s interesting, not sweet, a little herbal. I doubt that it will have any lasting power.
I don’t think I ever tried that one!
Hi everyone! I could swear that I had more than one licorice or anise scent but apparently not, so I’ll save that one for tomorrow. Today I’m wearing just a whisper of White Cube for a much-needed haircut this morning, then I’ll spray lavishly when I get home.
I am hoarding my white cube. And I need a haircut. My appt for March 22 was cancelled when my haircutter decided to quit the business. I haven’t made a new appointment elsewhere….
I bought a backup travel bottle when I heard it was being discontinued (I only ever had a travel bottle)…that *should* be enough to get me through, but I am still using it somewhat carefully. I may get it out today, though!
Also need a haircut…I’ve been putting it off because I’m trying to grow my hair so I don’t have to worry about having it cut in Germany later this year (I *can* speak German but trying to explain hair issues has always scared me). But one side flips really badly and it’s a mess right now. My stylist usually can tame it somewhat but hasn’t the last couple of times, so I’ve been pondering whether to try someone else.
That’s a hard one, shopping for a new stylist. It’s such an intimate kind of relationship, hair is important! Hope you find someone else you like.
I miss my former stylist a lot. I’d been seeing her since the late 1990’s. She knew how to make my hair look its best.
Good luck with your haircut saga!
Hello.
Sotd is The Voice Of The Snake.
The weather is getting so warm it’s practically summer (31C)! I need a fast-forward button to bring me to at least November. I don’t do well with heat. 🥵
That is summer weather for sure!
Paid some of those pesky bills, cleaned up the house a little bit, had a counseling appointment this morning. Might do a little vacuuming if time allows. Good news that I filed my taxes last night. The federal refund was a little more than I expected but the state refund was a little less. But the money is going to not fun stuff instead of fun stuff. Will be wearing Lyric after my shower.
Also paid some pesky bills today. Gotta keep the lights and Internet on, right?
Sorry the refund will not go to fun stuff Dawn, but glad you got the taxes done! I just mailed mine yesterday.
Kind of a big day in my little olfactory journey – just dabbed on some vintage Arpège Extrait for the first time. I wish I were better at detecting (and articulating) individual notes! At first sniff I’m getting a huge, abstract floral with hints of something musky. Heady stuff, so far – eager to see how it develops.
I wish I could wear this one and My Sin. My skin amps up the civet. But I also get those abstracted well-blended florals in Arpege (and My Sin) and find it hard to tease out the individual notes.
It’s a beauty!
Wearing Bengal Rouge today for what is hopefully a shortish drive. We are ambling slowly east, and hoping we don’t get any weird April weather out here in the hinterlands. Right now the sun is shining like a diamond. 🤩
Saw a herd of pronghorn yesterday. Today it’s tons of chipmunks whose sole call in life is to drive T-Rex crazy! 🙃
Safe travels, I hope your next destination will provide a better experience!
Mila loves chasing chipmunks. They like to torment her. 🙂
I think of Wyoming whenever Pronghorn are mentioned. Not sure I have seen them anywhere else.
Safe travels, Deva. Out in L.A., it’s the squirrels that drive my dog crazy. She feels her territory includes airspace up at least 3 stories to the power lines that form the squirrel highway. They run along it, taunting all the dogs in all the yards along the block.
Popping in to say: Profumum Confetto for the anise note (again). Lots of errands today. Just finished yoga and now I need to get moving (in a different way)!
Mmmm. Sounds great. This one is on my list too. In general, I quite like the Profumum line.
Wearing the last snort from a Christian Lacroix decant sent by a friend in Portland who knows i like licorice notes. I was not familiar with this one but it was his original fragrance for women from 1999. I passed on some of this decant to another friend who said she detected tarragon, which makes sense because I find that fresh tarragon has a licorice/anisic smell. Anyway, the nose is Sophia Grojsman and no tarragon or licorice or anise are listed in the notes. Much later, Lacroix did a fragrance called Absynthe which also has anise.
This is very random and nothing to do with perfume, but I can’t read the name Lacroix and not think of Ab Fab. Particularly the episode where Edina is wearing a rather awful jumper with gold letters on it saying it’s a Lacroix, when it’s obvious it’s not.
“Lacroix sweety”
ha!
National Pet Day.
Max is at the vet. It’ll be a few more hours til I see him.
I miss my dog.
Hope the appointment turns out well.
Hope everything goes smoothly and quickly!
Fingers crossed all is well with Max.
I used to get really anxious whenever my dog was at the vet. And that only happened twice I think. I hope you get good news soon.
Good wishes for you and puppy!
Sending hugs for you and Max!
Fingers (and paws) crossed for you and Max!
Hope all goes well, Annie. In our house, every day is National Pet Day.
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Mariner’s Rhyme
Newest of the new, a rare utterance this year. Just be warned, my Sephora order arrived yesterday and I have a good number of perfumes to wear. 🤣
Mariner’s Rhyme is everything that I expected: citrusy, salty, mineral, vanilla and soapy, among others. 💙

For those traveling by plane, would you swap seats? I won’t and it doesn’t matter how politely or rudely someone “asks”, I chose my seat, paid for it and that’s that. Well, there is an exception which is that if I’m in the middle seat and swapping for an aisle or window seat, I just might do it.
https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/travel/fights-switching-seats-fees-2041c6ed?st=yn93x7qidhr47bf&reflink=article_copyURL_share
I had a woman traveling with two small children do just that when I flew to Montreal. It was a 2/4/2 configuration and she expected me to give up my window and the man next to me to give up his aisle so she could « not bother the two other people sitting next to them in case the baby got fussy ». We both just gave her a « hell no » stare and she sat in her seats. She could have booked those seats herself if she really wanted them. I chose my specific seat for a reason and paid extra for it. WTF.
The nerve! Why do people feel so entitled?
Any hints on your Sephora fragrances pls? I am mulling an order myself. 😇
🤭
Prada Infusion Ylang, Vanilla and Gingembre
Nette Vanille and Rose Parade
Excellent choices and good food for thought for me! I have the Ylang and Vanilla infusions and they are good. Looking forward to your thoughts on gingerbread. Will google Nette tonight! 🧐 unfamiliar I am.
Let me just say here that I always, always pay for three seats together for my family. It is worth paying more. I am not a cheapskate.
BUT — what the article and I think many people miss is that even when you pay for your seat specifically, you don’t always get the seat assignment. Or sometimes you don’t have a choice to buy 2 or 3 seats together or even a seat assignment period, which happened to us on our recent trip to Palm Springs. We booked a few months in advance and there were no seats available to book on one of the flights. We ended up separated, which is a risk I’ll take now that Ockeghem Teen is older (though sometimes even a teen needs a parent next to her…see below).
Last year we paid for three seats together on our trip out to Ohio and back. Air Canada changed our seat assignments on the return flight multiple times over the months after booking, because they kept changing the plane assigned to the flight. Every time, they booked us into separated seats all over the plane and I had to call them, and even with that we ended up separated on the actual flight because they changed the plane AGAIN the day of. And on the way there, we were diverted from our connecting airport and had to take whatever rebooking we could get to try to get to my grandmother’s with time to visit, so despite having paid for seats we were separated. (In that case, the joke was on all the people who were separating us; Ockeghem Teen has a long history of nausea on flights, and she puked three times on one of the flights and one time we couldn’t reach her with a bag.) Anyway, I had to request a refund for our seat charges from both United and AC because we didn’t get our seats.
That said, if we’ve paid for and gotten three seats together as a family, we’d be unlikely to move if someone asked. And if I’ve paid for a window seat on a long / overnight flight, I’m not giving it up unless I get another window seat. But I am a bit more understanding now than before I had a kid, depending on the circumstances, given my experiences.
There are indeed circumstances when your family can be separated and you provided an excellent example. I hope you got money back.!
The article said the airlines are making more of an effort not to separate families but it sounds like that’s not the case.
I was traveling with my dog and wanted the window seat near the bathrooms for the extra space and access in case we had a messy emergency.
If someone told me they were a barfer I would have volunteered to swap seats antwhere away from them. :-0
I have swapped seats a couple of times on a flight. In each case, the would-be swapee was very polite about asking. I was also flying solo, so it’s not like I was sitting next to a friend or family member that I would have moved away from by swapping.
Polite asking versus demanding makes a big difference if it is not an even-swap. One time the woman sitting in front of me asked me to swap with her (my window for her middle). One look at her was enough to shut her up.
Most of the time when I am flying, I don’t care about the seat. Just the destination.
I wore FM Geranium pour Monsieur earlier today. It has the aniseed note – it is a very fleeting, blink-and-you-miss-it anise, but it is there.
Now I am wearing Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin for its licorice note.
That was a great LL, I liked it better than the women’s.
In Réglisse Noire today and enjoying the black licorice note except that it’s making me crave black licorice and I don’t have any handy🙁
Ha, that is a problem! I do love licorice and luckily I never have any handy.
Rain has been pushed back to tomorrow (yay!) and I am enjoying another day of sunshine. I found a tiny mini of Jean Patou 1000 in a box, so I am wearing that today. It is a little bit too powdery for me to consider getting more.
I know I tried 1000 several times but sadly I remember nothing except that I was not moved to get more. I totally regret not getting Joy in extrait though!
I’m wearing Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, which I can’t really smell all that well. Again an old sample, it does not smell off, but it has lost its oomph.
I’m spoiled rotten this week with the weather. It was sunny and crisp, warming up to about 18 degrees (C) in the afternoon. Another gorgeous day, which I spent mostly wandering around Colmar.
I’m jealous! I love Colmar — what a beautiful city, and the Isenheim Altar is one of my favourite pieces of art ever. Plus…good wine!
It’s my birthday, and I’ve taken today and tomorrow off work for a nice four day weekend. No perfume yet but I’m pretty sure it’ll be Pale Fire by Maison Anonyme. My beloved is just finishing up making French toast and bacon for brunch. Planning to go to a movie a little later and pick up some dinner from a new restaurant that just opened in the neighborhood. Thankful for a brief bald eagle sighting in the sky when I went on my balcony a few minutes ago! 🦅
Happy birthday, therabbitsflower. It sounds like you have wonderful plans for the day – enjoy!
Thank you! It was a very nice day.
Happy Birthday, therabbitsflower! Enjoy!🎂🎉💐
Thanks, allo!
Happy birthday and yay for the eagle sighting!!! I spotted a few in CT in the wild while on vacation and was in awe!
Thank you! I’m glad you got to see eagles in the wild too. Actually, soon after I posted this, I also saw a Cooper’s hawk in the trees across the street from me. There’s a small patch of wooded area there, and it’s a good place to spot some wildlife.
Happy birthday, have fun.
Thanks, Aurora.
Happy birthday!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your time off!
Thank you! Today was a good day, and tomorrow should be too. 🤞
Happy Birthday to you! 🎉
Thank you, Ann!
Happy Birthday!
Enjoy the extra time off!
Thank you! Today was a good start to the long weekend.
Happy Scented Birthday! 🎉🎁🎂 And how cool was it that you saw a bald eagle today?!
That was very cool! It was far away, but I could tell what it was because I’ve spotted them many times now. I also ended up seeing a beautiful hawk even closer after I posted this.
Happy birthday!
Thank you, hajuusuri!
Happy Birthday. Sounds like a perfect day.
Thanks, Denise! It was a very nice day.
French toast, bacon AND a bald eagle, that is a good birthday already! Hope the rest of day was great too.
Thanks, Robin! The rest of the day was quite nice too.
Happy Birthday! There’s something magical about seeing majestic animals in the wild. Enjoy your extended weekend.
Thanks, Gail!I totally agree and absolutely love seeing animals in the wild. It feels really special, even the common animals some of the time.
Gosh, you mean I could have been having a licorice week if I’d been properly engaged? I’ll have to wear all my licorice-inflected perfumes tomorrow all at once!
Slow, rough start to the day, lots of tears, home PT session that basically just consisted of me apologizing for crying and the clinician telling me to skip my exercises and just rest. But, it’s a gorgeous, sunshiney day and I refuse to spend it pouting, so I’ve pulled myself together with a nice top, properly sorted hair, earrings, lip gloss, and generous splashes of SMN Caprifoglio, one of my desert-island fragrances and a reliable spirit lifter.
Isabella – see my reply below – somehow didn’t end up replying to you.
Sending you strength and hugs, Isabella. Recovery from surgery can be daunting and frustrating.
I’m so sorry that your recovery is off to a rough start. Do what your PT says. 😉 I have had to do some exercises for hip pain but it was still bothering me a lot. Then I remembered my PT said, it’s not supposed to hurt! So I started being a little more gentle with myself. That helped.
Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line, no matter how much we would like it to. Hugs.
Glad you picked yourself back up Isabella 🙂
Good for you for pulling yourself together to appreciate the sunshiney day–that can be a hard thing to do. Healing takes time and patience with yourself and sometimes a few tears along the way. Hugs!
This was for Isabella!
Chanel 1957 for the library
Hope it was a good library day ltsg 🙂
Sampling Kilian Princess which is a reformulation of the I Don’t Need a Prince blah blah blah original to the best of my knowledge. I have the original and this weaker in comparison…less green tea and more generic. We are wise buy first editions and fear reformulations, friends! 😆 …so says the Enabler…
The enabler has good advice 🙂
Apple and Clementine and yogurt smoothie
A gorgeous spring day 19C.
Two licorice perfumes today, Méchant Loup where it’s really present and SL Un Bois Vanille, just an accent.
I picked up some Sumo Mandarins today when grocery shopping. They have been very tasty this year. 🍊🍊
White Cube for me today. Good news — the car broker just called and has found us what seems to be a decent used car. We should be able to see it tomorrow or on the weekend. Of course, I pointed out that I didn’t think the price was great and that we could just spend a bit more and buy new…until I went online to look at dealer inventory and realized that there simply are no new cars in the model we want and vanishingly few used ones. So beggars can’t be choosers or negotiators, I guess.
Fingers crossed…hope it works out!
Wearing some lovely, vintage L’Heure Bleue EdT today for partial points. I can’t believe I had put this in the sell/swap section! It’s gorgeous.
Oooooooh, vintage L’HB is wonderful. But very wistful.
Ah, well, I’m often in a wistful mood, so I guess it suits me, lol!
My internet has been spotty today. I better post while I can.
I am wearing Dolce and Gabbana Devotion today and wishing I would have bought the bottle instead of the travel spray. I am really more of a bottle person when it comes to picking my sotd. Devotion has become a favorite though so I moved it in with the bottles.
Better a travel spray than a small sample! You will find your bottle!
Well realistically it will take me forever to get through the travel spray. By then I am sure to find a heavily discounted bottle or have moved on to something else. Lol.
Hope your spotty connectivity gets resolved quickly!
D&G Devotion has become a new love for you, hasn’t it?
I really like it! I wish it had body products.
Somehow, Teflon kitty must have had an inkling that today was National Pet Day. She spent about half an hour sitting on the couch next to me, occasionally giving one of my hands a bath while grooming herself. 😽
OTOH (or paw?), she did throw up in a couple of spots this morning. At least I didn’t step in it (didn’t have my glasses on at the time).
Have plenty of bright, sunny weather to share with anyone who has had far too much gloom, rain, or snow lately!
SOTD = Eris Delta of Venus, from The Sample Stash. It pairs very nicely with the Josie Maran Vanilla Vibezzz Body Butter. I am really digging the VV Body Butter lately.
Oooh oooh, I just ordered the Josie Maran unscented body butter based on a People magazine adverticle. My go to has been Clinique and I am curious to try this.
I hope Teflon is all better!
I think this morning was a case of “scarf and barf” with Tef. Either that or a very small hairball. She’s fine.
Scarf and barf! 🤣
One of the vets I had in NJ used it to describe a certain behavior cats can do. They eat kibble way too fast, and it comes right back up.
Dogs might do that, too.
Dibs on some Sun!🌞
I will get to work on it!
I’m in Rebecca Minkoff, such an easy and cheerful wear.
I was in Un Bois Vanille yesterday, and there really is a good bit of licorice in that one. Probably one of my favorite vanillas.
RM is an easy wear. It would be a good signature scent.
