Happy Friday, and happy National Caramel Day and Star Trek: First Contact Day! Birthdays: Booker T. Washington, Bette Davis. Our community project for today is salt & pepper...wear a fragrance with salty notes, pepper notes, or both. (Thanks go to Calypso for the suggestion!)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I had a dickens of a time finding it, but I'm in Calvin Klein Reveal for salt and pepper. My sample is no longer in pristine shape, but I'm still surprised this one did not sell better.
Reminder: 4/12 is National Licorice Day. You know what to do!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I began this week with Penhaligon’s, I will end it with Penhaligon’s. Opus 1870. While Pen’s website does not list pepper, many other websites do, and it smells peppery to me.
Despite prominently featuring incense and spices, this fragrance still gives me “just out of shower” feel. Smoky and clean at the same time. Love it.
I must admit that the only Penhaligons I have ever tried are Amaranthine and Ostara. I’m particularly fond of the latter, it just breathes spring and hopefulness. Is it a house you are fond of?
Their scents are kind of hit-and-miss for me. These four are my favorites: Blenheim Bouquet, Castile, Lavandula and Opus 1870. Malabah is pretty nice too, and I like a sample of Heartless Helen I was gifted, although I think there are far more interesting tuberose perfumes.
And then there is a number of Penhaligons I tried but just felt meh about. I do not even remember them. I do remember Ostara – a striking scent, but its combination of narcissus and vanilla seemed dissonant to me. I could not get over that feeling. More for you!
Happy Friday, all!
Not sure I’d recognize salty notes, but I’m enjoying the pepper in Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée.
That’s a great one! My favorite so far of the Twilly line.
Yes, it’s much more interesting (to my nose) than the original.
I like the original but not on myself.
Will have to try this one! I do like the original.
Will give the Eau Poivree version of Twilly a sniff if I see it.
I’m actually taking CP points this week, wearing Florabellio for the salty notes.
Oooh — I should have thought of Florabellio!
Hello all!
I put on Epice Marine today, thinking that surely it has pepper as well as the salty algae accord! But no dice, just salt. Not that I mind one bit. I have handily worked to drain this bottle for almost 10 years. It’s kind of a special one for me actually; I was moving and the day I moved in, the kitchen flooded. So I got my deposit back (still moved in, sadly) and took a quick trip to Hermes for this one.
Have a great day, everyone.
That sounds a pretty traumatic start to a new house. Glad perfume came to the rescue.
It was! Turns out we were low point on some very old pipes. 😢
Capping a week of salt and pepper with SL Poivre Noir, which is essentially a cross between Demeter Black Pepper and CdG Dry Clean. It’s not altogether pleasant, to be honest — aggressively synthetic. (I’m wearing a sample: I never would have sprung for a full bottle.) I’m sure there are people who like it just fine, but it’s kind of a low ebb for the Lutens brand, as far as I’m concerned.
Speaking of Demeter, I hadn’t been to their website in a while but I just did and their prices have gone WAY up. $12 for a half-ounce bottle that used to cost about $3, $9 for a 5mL mini spray that was less than half that…. I used to order a dozen of the minis at a time (and give away the ones that didn’t suit), but no more.
Yes, noticed that Demeter had really raised their prices. I’m not sure how they managed to stay in business with such low prices and so many scents.
Hello and tgif! Time flies especially when one’s having fun.
Didn’t pack salt and pepper scents with me so my S&P sotd is courtesy from the TF counter – Oud Minérale.
I don’t recall ever smelling the original but this version is really quite good! Usually not one for aquatic scents but this is good. If I have some spare pennies this summer….
Just realized I called it good twice in a row. Must be a sign! Lol.
😀
I chose L’Artisan Parfumeur Couleur Vanille for salty vanilla and Hermes Terre d’Hermes for the mineral pepper note.
“Salt and Peppa’s here” (from the song ‘Push It’ which is now stuck in my head now, sorry I was an 80’s kid)
Ha! I had the same musical thought!
Also had that earworm!
I’m in Dune after seeing Kanuka mention it the other day. Funny enough fragrantica doesn’t list salt in the notes but I’m claiming cp points because it is kind of a salty scent. It’s fitting for me too because I’ve been in an early 90s mood lately. Eyeing up vintage J.crew sweatshirts on evil bay and I just ordered a pair of Levi’s 501 90s selvedge jeans. I’m hoping they are close to the ones my cousin handed down to me back in the day after they no longer fit him. Why oh why did I ever get rid of them?!🤦♀️
I picked up one of my daughter’s graduation gifts this morning. Some of you may (or may not) remember me talking about the T-shirt quilt my mom and I started last summer. I cut the T-shirt squares, my mom did the sewing, and I picked it up from the quilter today. It looks so great!🤩 I hope she loves it. 🥹 It has shirts from her preschool, grade and middle school as well as shirts from her beloved summer camp and ones she got in Canada with my parents. The fabric I picked out is camp themed since she loves the outdoors and plans to major in recreation management.
That quilt sounds amazing, and I’m sure she’s going to love it! What a creative and special idea! And that’s quite an interesting career she’s got planned. I actually did not know one could major in such a thing.
Dune was so good…. I used to have a bottle but who knows what became of it. Back in the day.
Thanks Calypso. I’d been saving her tshirts for years and wasn’t really sure why, and then the idea occurred to me.
As for her major, at the school she’s attending they actually have a dual degree program where she can start earning graduate credits in year 4, and in 5 years she can graduate with a masters degree. So, that’s the plan.🤞For years our family has joked with her “well, when you run summer camp…” but all joking aside she is my quiet, determined, steadfast girl and I would not put it past her.
That is such a great present! You are the best Mom! 😊
Aww, thanks lillyjo!🥹
What lillyjo said!
What a nice idea for a quilt. It will carry so many memories
Yay – that is such a great idea. And ditto on the old Levi’s jeans – wish I had kept them.
What a creative idea! I’m sure she will adore it.
You smell beautiful! I’ve become an even bigger fan of Dune lately, since I’ve been wearing it more often. I was heartbroken when I discovered my big BUB had gone off. I have half a 50ml left, and a 1oz BUB. Think that will be enough to last the rest of my life? …. Maybe, maybe not. Better start a search on evilB. 😂
What an original gift, and useful too.

An article about finding 501s
I agree with you about Dune – one of my top 5 scents. It’s always reminded me of the sea more so than the desert; I get the salty notes, too. Love the idea of your quilt, sounds absolutely beautiful! My 16-year old granddaughter will be working for the park district this summer as a Special Recreation Counselor. I’m so proud of her; we’ll see where that might lead 🤞.
I love that T shirt gift. Those personal sentimental gifts are the best.
I love jeans. About 15 years ago, I started looking for the type of stiff denim we had as a kids, all cotton, how it faded and aged just right – over years. I have some more modern pre faded 501’s and other types but sadly it is difficult to find raw denim that isn’t marked up a lot and I have found that buying men’s (and even boys’) is better for me – I buy them large and shrink them in the washer/dryer. I picked up some vintage men’s Levi’s in Europe and the fabric is just fundamentally different from what we get now. Weirdly, the vintage size is quite large on me compared to the current day men’s Levi’s that are snug, even though they are only 1 inch bigger.
Love the T-shirt quilt! I know your daughter will, too.
I came across a pair of Levi’s recently that was 100% cotton in my size. You bet I snapped those up!
In my sample of Paris-Venise (pink pepper). I remember pink pepper was one of those ubiquitous notes a few years ago, kinda like oud.
Twins! And am happy that the pink-pepper wave seems to be subsiding. Not that I am against the note per se, but more that everyone’s ad copy seemed so self-congratulatory about the note’s originality and edginess, when it was anything but.
I am loaded with salt in three fragrances and pepper is also in the perfume. I showered with BBW At the Beach and then applied Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I topped it off with Bronze Goddess Nuit parfum. All of this seems a little too summery, but it’s okay for one day😊
You smell like Florida!🌞 lol, well to me anyway. My mom had BBW At the Beach shower gel and lotion in my guest bedroom and so now I have that scent association.☺️
I probably do smell like Florida. I definitely don’t smell like South Dakota this time of year. Only in the 50’s today.
I will have to look for the salt note in the Bum Bum Cream when I open my new container.
Not CP compliant at all-Carnal Flower, for the win. One more day of driving through slush and rain but at least we didn’t get the snow that could have come. Spring in the Maritimes isn’t for the faint of heart 🙂
You smell lovely!
Thank you, madtowngirl 🙂
Even though you aren’t CP compliant, you still smell fabulous!
We got the snow! Fortunately it should all be melted by tomorrow. Sadly that means mud, not good news when you have a long-haired little dog.
Glad the snow gave you a miss this time!
I started the week in TDC Rose Poivrée, and I’m ending it in TDC Sel de Vetiver. I don’t usually wear this one this time of year, and it’s nice to have it on and think of summer.
That was going to be my choice for today but the weather is grim – I don’t want to think of summer since it’s quite far away, in my mind. But you do smell amazing 🙂
Scent twins!😊
I could swear I had some SdV somewhere but could not find it! You smell great.
I chose Indochine for the CP, and also because it’s very chilly here this morning and Indochine’s coziness goes well with the winter white sweater and taupe shawl I’m hunkered down in. New dryer allegedly arriving tomorrow! Hope I didn’t just jinx it. 🤞😜
🤞!
Yay!
You smell delicious!!
🍀🍀🍀 for the arrival of your new dryer!
Wearing Hilde Soliani’s Sale e Pepe today. It starts out mostly salt with a tiny tingle of pepper and at this stage it smells like Neilmed piecing aftercare spray. Later the pepper increases and you get a bit of smoke as well…now I want a steak.
Well, you just talked me out of trying that one lol!
Scent twins! I’m wearing HS Sale de Pepe as well.
Happy Friday!💐
This cp is a great reason to wear CdG Blackpepper. Mr. allo and I both love it.
That’s a good one, happy Friday too, allo!
Nice! Am jealous that Mr. allo like to wear fragrance. Mr. E. won’t touch the stuff. Although, to be fair, he never minds mine.
Sounds like my husband Ann😊
Same.
Same here!
Happy Friday to you and Mr. allo!
Kohl Gris has pepper listed so I’m project compliant
👍
I wanted a scent in honour of all the rain that has blessed my corner of the world this week, so I chose Iris Silver Mist. These rooty iris scents smell of damp earth to me and remind me of rain. Pepper does not seem to be listed in the notes but the opening does smell peppery to me.
Anyway a great majestic scent.
You smell glorious!
ISM is on my short list. You smell great today. 😊
Definitely peppery, plus gorgeous.
I’m wearing CDG Ganja for its pepper, though more of a dusty, bottom of the drawer pepper. Really good perfume, not at all sharp or too dopey. I’ve been watching the Ripley series on Netflix, with Andrew Scott in the lead. It’s shot in black and white which somehow makes the Italian setting even more beautiful. Scott is terrific
I haven’t seen that series but I greatly admired him in one of the episodes of Foyle’s War. He was so understated in that performance and so very compelling.
Foyle’s War was one of my all-time favorite mysteries. Michael Kitchen gave remarkable performances.
One of my favorites also, and I just bought the DVD collection this week. I love his “hmm” when people spout rubbish. TBH I adopted that for use at work 🙂
Yes! Good move. 😁
We have the DVD collection, too — need to rewatch. We loved it.
Agreed! Superb from the acting to the dialogue to the editing and photography. I wish is was still going…🎥
He is great in Chekhov’s The Duel (2010) if you can find it.
If you can find it…hmm, not on Wikipedia, am going to check IMDB.
He was also fantastic in a filmed version of Edith Wharton’s last novel, The Buccaneers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Buccaneers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Duel_(2010_film)
Oh, I need to watch that. Loved the books although doubt I could read them now.
I wanted to wear Parfum Sacre today but found my decant has gone off, it was years old and in the wrong kind of bottle to start with so it’s not surprising. So I am going with Bottega Veneta for it’s pink pepper note. Of course it’s in the why don’t I wear this more often group!
That’s a good one. I haven’t had Bottega Veneta for years, but liked it.
BV is such a great leather scent!
I saved my LL Poivre 23 for today — I think it’s a gorgeous fragrance and I’m always surprised that I don’t wear it more often/hear about it more often. Partly I don’t wear it because there isn’t much left in my decant, but still…don’t save, wear and enjoy, right?
Twins! This is so pretty. Thanks for reminding me about it.
That’s a lovely and unique one, springpansy. You smell great.
Would be a shame if that decant evaporated! Wear it and enjoy it.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
If you had the morning I had, you would too!

Who would have thought? An earthquake in New Jersey? I am still shaken to the core. I was sitting at my kitchen table perusing my email when all of a sudden, I felt the shakes. The first thing I thought of was did I all of a sudden develop vertigo? When I realized it was not me but the whole house was shaking 🫨, I got alarmed because this is NOT an earthquake zone. I thought about sheltering under the table but by then it stopped. I first immediately called my neighbor across the street but her line was busy. I then opened the door to see several neighbors outside. So far there are no issues and I thank God for this. When one is in the thick of things, it is not unusual to think something went on for a long time. I thought it was a minute and news reports mentioned 4.8 magnitude lasting a few seconds and I am 100% sure it was probably closer to at least 15 seconds if not longer. In any case, I now need to think about what to do if it happens again.
I had the same morning–at first I thought it was roof inspectors (we are getting new roofs in our community), but the whole house was shaken…it must have been at least 10-15 seconds but felt like longer. Last time I felt an earthquake was at least 10 years ago when working in Trenton NJ–we rarely get a tremor in New Jersey!! Yikes!!!
Depending on how sturdy the table is, might be better to stand in a doorway (they’re usually reinforced) or lie next to, but not under, some really substantial piece of furniture like a bed or couch. The theory of that is that, if a wall or bookcase or piece of the ceiling falls, you have a chance of being in the open space created when the substantial piece of furniture and the other falling object meet and form a triangle.
OMG quite a morning.
That’s quite a morning! I hope everyone is OK.
I just read about that! Scary for sure! 😳
Hope everyone is fine! Earthquakes always hit me first as vertigo, you’re not alone in that.
I heard about that and was wondering if some of you were affected. I have never been in an earthquake so I can’t even imagine what it would be like. Glad you are alright.
I heard about that and wondered how you and other folk in the area were feeling.
Living as I do in a country that gets lots of earthquakes, we’re very attuned to advice about what to do, and we have a national exercise every year to “drop, cover and hold”, which means get under a table or desk and hold on to it.
Glad you are safe hajusuuri!
Glad you are ok but how terrifying that must have been! I heard about it on the news this morning and thought of all the NST’ers in that area. This afternoon I watched various NY residents talk about their scary experiences; I’m just glad it wasn’t any worse. 🤗
Hugs! I was literally and figuratively shaken in NJ, too. I felt the strong vibrations for 15-20 seconds, too. Definitely more than a few!!
Never before, and never again, I hope.
Thanks everyone. It just happened again for a few seconds … not as strong as the one this morning but certainly strong enough to be felt.
Oh gosh! I hope it’s done.
Aftershocks are common. I too grew up with quakes and think getting under a table is better than doorway. Obviously don’t be near a window or glass. There’s not much you can do…they’re so sudden and are over quickly. I’ve also gotten the nausea thing before the movement starts.
I remember getting one of those little aftershocks the only time I was ever in an earthquake.
Frightening! And twice. 😟😟
Sorry, but “shaken to the core” is such a great unintended pun for this situation!
So I thought something huge had landed on my roof…there was a big thud then the whole house shuddered. But there was no real shaking so I did not even realize it was an earthquake (despite having now been in 3 or 4 good ones) til my son told me an hour later.
p.s. my California “training” was get in a doorway, brace yourself if need be, don’t go outside (because power lines can fall, etc etc).
That is interesting about the thud, then the shaking. Makes me wonder if your house is very tightly knit, and it first just absorbed the shock?
Glad to hear that you weren’t injured this morning. Is your place OK?
I remember being told the same thing as Robin for earthquakes: get in a doorway and brace yourself.
PS. Your Musubi Kiln owl is gorgeous! 💚
Wearing Profumum Roma Acqua di Sale for the CP.
We had a 4.8 earthquake early this morning. I was on a scaffolding at a field inspection at that moment, and it was very scary. Now, our unit has to work tonight and during the weekend to inspect the bridging and shedding of our buildings to make sure everything is stable. Not a fun weekend ahead, but at least I will be on my way to Buffalo for the solar eclipse on Sunday evening.
Happy Friday! 🌻
How frightening, especially being on scaffolding at the time. I can’t imagine. We had a small earthquake when we were living closer to Vancouver, and were just sitting on the couch at the time, thankfully.
I hope things are OK at the jobsite. Enjoy the eclipse!
I have felt earthquakes before, in different parts of the world, but this one was particularly frightening because of the scaffolding. I hope not to experience something like that in my life again.
Jeez, glad you managed to get off the scaffolding without injury. I hope you get great views of the eclipse!
Thank you, Deva! We will have a beautiful weather for the eclipse. So excited about that!
Oh, my. You were in it as well. Glad you are safe.
Thank you, Kris!
Glad you are safe!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
OMG 😱! Ditto what I said to hajusuuri above but even more so, being on a scaffold! Glad you are ok, hope the buildings are, too.🤗 Hope you have a cloudless sky in Buffalo for the viewing – we’ll be doing the same from Indianapolis. 🤞
Thank you, Laila. I am glad I am safe. Now I am looking forward to clear skies and warm temperatures for the eclipse. So glad about having almost perfect weather.
Oh wow, so so scary.
It was!
You and hajusuuri had quite a morning, but being on a scaffolding during this?! Glad you are safe.
It was terrifying. There was an aftershock of magnitud 4 a couple of minutes ago. I didn’t feel it, but people in my building did. We have to be very patient.
Scaffolding?! Oh, my!
Horrible!
Scaffolding! Oh dear, that must have been terrifying.
The most terrifying work related experience in my life.
ZOMG, you were on scaffolding at the time? So glad to hear that you weren’t hurt!
Thank you, Jalapeno. I heard that approximately
30 coworkers were on scaffolding at that time. I am glad everyone is safe.
Late to the party but I am glad you are ok. Glad you have a better natural event to enjoy on Monday. I’m getting excited about the eclipse because it’s looking like our weather will be good, too.
Thank you, MossyBerry!
It looks like we will be weather twins. Let’s enjoy the eclipse! 🌒🌑
Just read this now…that must have been terrifying! Glad you are ok. Are you an engineer? Sounds like exciting work…I so admire people working in the field. Sending you hugs, PL67 and hoping you get great weather in Buffalo for optimal viewing!!!
Thank you, She-ra. I am in the structural engineering field.
Looking forward to the eclipse. It looks like we are going to have good weather. Fingers crossed!
I lived in California for 15 years and got used to feeling earthquakes, but your first one is always a surprise, I think. I am hoping there is no major damage anywhere.
CP compliant in Carner Barcelona D600. There is supposed to be black pepper in the top notes although I missed it this morning.
I am pulling together stuff for the upcoming swapmeet. It looks like I’ll be getting rid of a lot of travel sizes! If I don’t love them, why am I holding on to them?
I can still see my sister in my kitchen when I was in SF and she felt the house shift. She got really quiet and her eyes got really big!
There was an earthquake the first night I arrived in San Diego for graduate school 🙂
Wearing Still Life by Olfactive Studio. Three kinds of pepper – pink, black, and Sichuan! Top notes are all about the citrus, and I’m not getting much more yet. I think my sense of smell is going the way of my hearing and eyesight. That is to say, not so sharp anymore. 🙉🙈🙊
Same here with my senses!
Or maybe someone is fibbing about those perfume notes? 🤔
Well, I don’t think Fragrantica is always right, lol!
I’m not cp compliant today but am wearing 4160 Tuesdays Hammersmith Tea and Buscuits from a sample.
I’ve discovered that some scents with an obvious pepper note may not suit me. Looking at you, Perles de Lalique!
And how do you like Hammersmith Tea and Biscuits? That one has been on my To Try list for ages.
Very nice on first impressions, being a soft fragrance on me. It has a citrus opening with some spice in the background as it dries down. Definitely worth a sniff!
Fresh out of a hot steamy shower and wanted something soft and cozy but still all encompassing. Kind of like Pig Pen’s cloud of dirt. So three sprays of Kalmemat today does the trick.
I ordered a bottle from Saks on Wednesday but the charge has not been deleted from my account. Unable to get a hold of anyone in store to check on this. Somehow ended up at Capitol One who then transferred me to customer assistance except it’s for web only orders. He transferred me back to the department even though I told him no one was answering. Ring a ling, ring a ling….and so it goes.
Oye ve.
Some places don’t charge until an item is shipped. Hopefully someone was able to help.
Gah! Hate getting the runaround with financial stuff.
Well, I didn’t pick it out for the CP but I’m claiming partial points in Jeux de Peau for the whiff of spice (surely a pinch of pepper in there) and a certain saltiness. People have loaded me up with baked goods lately while bringing me dinners and checking on me, and part of me wants to just lounge on the couch eating cookies and pastries all day, but the wiser part knows better. Hoping my SOTD will satisfy my sweet tooth and craving for brioche!
Good luck! Baked goods are hard to resist.
Pear and yogurt smoothie
Cologne du Parfumeur during the day and tonight for the CP Turbulences de Révillon which I rarely wear but smells like the best scents of the eighties, I don’t detect much pepper and zero caraway thankfully.
The best of the 80’s?! That must smell glorious!
I had first smelled it in France and never forgot it.
Wearing some of your rarities again, I see.
😀
Chilly, rainy April day in LA!!
Choose Ensence Mythique since I didn’t think I would be able to wear much longer. So a treat for me.
Have a new interview at noon – then going to get eye cream at the Sephora sale.
I have left all bad juju behind me. Done!
Good for you to stay positive, something will turn up.
Good luck!
Good luck!🤞
Good luck! 🍀
Hope that today’s interview is the start of something great for you! 🤞🤞🤞
Joining springpansy in Le Labo Poivre 23, so pretty.
Just bought tickets for some fun concerts this summer. First up is Parliament/Funkadelic with Dumpstaphunk as the opening act; then later this summer, Gary Clark Jr. Can’t wait! Both are outdoor shows… at the moment, that would be ‘brrrr’ — we did have snow yesterday, and it’s still cold and threatening today. In April. In the SF Bay area. Crazy!
… and now it’s hailing…
I was pelted with pea sized hail the other day. Not fun!
Hail!!
Glad you have the concerts to look forward to 🙂
Ugh! Hail sucks SO much.
Hope that you have splendid weather for your concerts.
No salt and pepper for me today (pepper especially is a note I tend to avoid, whether black or pink—it seems to flair up my allergies). Today I sprayed myself for the first time with Perfumer H Suede. Jessica’s recent post about spring fragrances pushed me over the edge of trying it. It’s arresting. It is both solid and airy. When the breeze comes through my window, I smell so much iris and violet—but then I smell a thick-ish orange blossom (clearly the ylang ylang having its way, but I’m particularly sensitive to orange blossom as I love it so much and search it out) that makes it feel so different. My two arms smell distinctly different from each other, which isn’t something that happens often; one side is powdery, while the other is creamier. Anyway, it’s fascinating. I plan to look into other Perfumer H scents soon.
Thank you, Jessica, for the inspiration. This is spring flowers with *earth* grounding it.
Oh, now you are pushing me over the edge!
I wish so much that Perfumer H did samples. They have a lot of perfumes to choose from, and I know I’d shell out money if they released sample discovery sets. Apparently, I need to plan a trip to London for the express purpose of sniffing in their shop
It’s a real autumn day here, sunny but nippy, and the trees are noticeably changing colour.
I have a hair appointment, and I’m hoping my usual stylist is back, poor thing broke her arm right up by the shoulder at New Year.
I think I’ll wear JHAG’s Mad Madame. It just leapt to mind this morning.
A perfect autumn day is so delightful 🍁
A good hair stylist is a treasure.
Soooo glad it’s Friday! The work week has been a challenging one.
I saved Le Labo Poivre 23 for today from the 10ml decant I’ve had a long time, which now has about 7-8ml left. I love it. It has the perfect balance of spices and resins/ambery notes.
I hear you on the challenging work week. May next week be better.
I went looking for my bottle of Poivre earlier this week and then remembered I sold it a good many years ago…
I hope you have a relaxing weekend!
Enjoy your weekend.
In honor of the upcoming eclipse, I’ll be celebrating earth, sea, and sky in my fragrance choices this week:
For today’s cp, I chose Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt layered over BBW Sea Salt Coast body products, a great combo!👍 I’m not fond of beachy or aquatic scents, but marine ones – those with sea salt & seaweedy notes =❤️
Later this weekend we’ll be heading out to Indianapolis. – a 3hour drive from here – hoping 🤞for clear skies to watch the eclipse. Mr. Laila is obsessed with this, me less so. I would’ve been satisfied with 94% totality here instead of 6 hours of driving + 3 days of my life, so I’m really hoping this will be worth it. For this trip, I’m taking vintage HR Heaven Sent and Dame Earth Mother.
Glad I don’t live on either coast, you all have had really crummy weather here. It’s been really dismal and cold here all week and finally the 🌞came out a short while ago for the first time in at least a week, but I’m grateful to not have had to experience tornadoes, snowstorms and earthquakes like some of you have! Stay safe!
It’s also National Deep Dish Pizza Day today. Guess what we’re having for dinner? 🍕
Wishing everyone a wonderful – and calm – weekend ahead!
I hope you get a great view of the eclipse.
Ooooooh, if I had 94% totality for the eclipse, I would stay put!
Hope all the skywatchers have good weather for Monday.
Heaven Sent is a great choice – I have not selected an eclipse perfume yet (we’ll get totality, too) but I may copy you. I love that one anyway. I think totality is *just* that much better because of the chance of seeing the Sun’s corona. That was my takeaway from the Nova show on PBS last night. 🙂
I just love this week’s CP as it’s making me think hard about my collection. I have more pepper-compliant fumes than salt ones, and one of my fave bath/shower gels is the Molton Brown Recharge Black Pepper gel, it smells so good that I had to run out and buy the EdT of the same name, despite all the online chatter that they smell different. And yup, don’t waste your simoleons, the EdT has none of the glory of the shower gel, they’re very different scents. Why, MB, why? (she whined). But if you like black pepper, give the gel a whirl. I’ve tried several other of the MB shower gels (Fiery Pink Pepper & a rhubarb peony one) but they are both too sweet.
As for SOTD, I haven’t yet decided between Lorenzo Villoresi Piper Nigrum and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Azuree Soleil by Tom Ford (whew that’s a mouthful). I love it but it lasts less than 2 hours on me. Also, both of these read ‘cool’ to me, and it’s already cold, windy, and intermittently rainy today in Los Angeles. I’d reach for my beloved Parfum Sacre EdP like several others here, but the DH says it smells ‘too musky’ so I try to wear it when he’s not around, not when we’re going out to dinner like tonight.
Lastly, Robin I’ve never even heard of Calvin Klein Reveal but now I’m intrigued about that and also the CdG Blackpepper that some of you have worn this week so thank you!
CK Reveal was not around for very long. I think maybe 2 years before it was d/c’ed?
Yeah, too late to get intrigued by Reveal! It wasn’t genius but it was a really good no-brainer, and one of CK’s better recent efforts IMO. Just did not take off at all.
Well, I’m down with a cold today and wearing generous amounts of La Pausa. There’s nothing remotely salty or peppery about it, so I added a tiny bit of TDC Sel de Vetiver on my shins for a participation point. Happy Friday, y’all!
Get well soon.
Feel better soon!
Feel better soon. I hope La Pausa comforts you.
Hope you feel better soon!
Hoping for a speedy recovery!
Get well soon! You smell amazing!
Thanks everyone! ❤️
Boo for the head cold! Hope it goes away ASAP!
Must be something going around.
Atelier Mistral Patchouli for the CP.
Family in the NYC somehow did not feel the earthquake!
Getting ready to head to a lake house in Ontario for the long cosmic weekend, hoping for at least a partially clear Monday.
You smelled great today! Glad that your family is OK.
I did. And thank you.
I am wearing something that is in general salt-ish category, Nothing but Sea and Sky by Une Nuit Nomade. If it is a beach, it is not tropical but cool and unpopulated, like I would want my beaches most of the time. This is one of my 3 purchases for 2024 and I quite like it. Easy to wear, subtle. I didn’t think I was much of a sandalwood person but maybe I am.
That sounds nice!
I like salt better than pepper in perfume. I wasn’t in the mood for salt so went with Miu Miu for pepper. I sprayed it on my legs so it wouldn’t irritate me.
Miu Miu had a beautiful bottle. But the stuff inside was not for me.
Chiming in late to wish everyone a good weekend.
I sampled Peau Salée today, from Teo Cabanel. I think this might be the last one in the discovery set I reached for, because I’m not fond of beachy, sunscreen-y scents. But it’s not bad actually, far from being a scrubber and quite transportive.
Have a good weekend tulipani!
Hope that your weekend is a good one too!
I thought it would have salt but it doesn’t. But there is pepper…. So Beachwalk by Replica it is.
Thanks all for your kind words about my Agnes kitty. We are taking some time away for the first time since we moved here 3 years ago. Heading to South Carolina where it looks like spotty weather, but it’ll be quite a bit warmer. And we will escape the combination of melting snow and road construction in our town. It’s been quite the ordeal…it’ll continue into early summer – we had no driveway access this past week. We will, though, return to the State repaving the highway, so more detours…. It’s crazy here! Thankfully, we only had a brief power outage from this most recent storm, but a lot of folks in our county are still without power. A number of local businesses that have power are offering up freezer space if needed.
In other perfume news, that Peaches Revenge scent reviewed on Fragrantica sounds interesting. Kind of lemming it.
Construction season has officially begun! Glad you will be away from it for awhile and that your power outage was brief.
I can’t believe Beachwalk doesn’t have salt!
Road construction is well underway here. I’m learning which places to avoid, if I can!
Posting even later than tulipani!
An eventful day for sure. My phone blew up with text messages this morning about the NJ earthquake. Guess I left at a good time?
On a serious note, everyone I was in touch with is OK. I hope the NY/NJ/PA contingent of NST is also fine after all the shaking. I remember the 2011 earthquake which affected the area, and how unsettled I felt then.
I’ve had “Push It” by Salt & Pepa going through my head for the past couple of days, so even my earworm has been in line with the CP!
Lots of driving for me to take care of some banking, only to find out that I will have to repeat said trip at a later date. What a pain.
SOTD = Hermes Eau de Merveilles Bleue EdT. Pretty sure my sample is from the always generous Hajusuuri. I’ve called it “an aquatic perfume for people who hate aquatics”. Still holds true. It smells even better in Colorado than it did in NJ, I think.
We have been singing the same song today.
I’m glad everyone was safe from the earthquake. I experienced one during the only time I was in California.
You gave a perfect description of Bleu. It’s the only one of the EdM line I can wear.
If I can find one of the adorable 30mL bottles of EdM Bleue, I might have to get it.
