It's Hump Day and National Chocolate Mousse Day. Birthdays: Washington Irving, Doris Day, Jane Goodall, Eddie Murphy. RIP John Barth. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Halfeti Rose.
Reminder: on 4/5 we're doing salt & pepper...wear a fragrance with salty notes, pepper notes, or both. (Thanks go to Calypso for the suggestion!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hermessence Poivre Samarcande. Too simple for what it is, but there’s no denying it’s peppery as all get-out. Black pepper and dry wood make a pretty good team.
Yep, that’s pepper!
I’m in another of the new spring Alkemia perfume oils. This one is Crown of Violets.
What a lovely name!
I have been enjoying the cherry blossom photos this week — they are very much like the ones outside my bathroom window. In the past few days they have gone from tight, dark pink buds to fully open, fluffy pink rounds of petals. They don’t have much scent and don’t last very long, but every year I cherish watching their progression. SOTD is Carthusia 1681, for its pepper note.
Ours will fall before this darned rain lets up! Boo rain!
CdG Blue Encens. This is a woody incense, but it also has a light pepper note.
I forgot about that one Glannys!
Hermes Gentiane Blanche, here. I love this scent. Think I’ll display all the pretty coloured bottles in the half bath – I know keeping them in a box maintains the fragrances’ lifespan, but I want to see all the pretty bottles.
Unless they are exposed directly to sun, they should be okay. Enjoy the pretty bottles!
In Lolita Lempika Si Lolita for the pink pepper note.
Happy Wednesday! ☕️
Si Lolita was lovely!
I’m wearing beautiful “Muguet Porcelaine” from Hermès. After a night of unsettling dreams, it’s allowing me to wallow in my melancholic mood.😊
That’s one of the wonderful things about having a perfume wardrobe — knowing just which one will allow wallowing and resettling as needed. 🙂
1957 Chanel for volunteering
Kris- for books I really liked Lady Tan circle of women
You smell nice.
I may check out your book rec, sounds interesting. I read her ‘The Island of Sea Women.’
Tea Girl from Hummingbird Lane was wonderful, also.
I drive by the street in Pasadena and think of the book. So much of Lisa Sees’ family history is in Pasadena.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel for me today. My very old sample is nearly thunked. I’ve thought about buying this one many times (I think it’s discontinued now), but it’s too close to TDC Sel de Vetiver, which I have a large bottle of and will likely never get through.
Good to know that TDC Sel de Vetiver is a close match to MH Fleurs de Sel.
Sotd is AdV Oeillet Bengale for the black pepper note. I love this carnation beauty.
Yep, you smelled great today allo.
I was planning to wear CBIHP Black March today, but I realized it’s still packed away in the basement with the rest of the spring/summer perfumes. Because it’s only occasionally spring here; we are forecast to get SNOW tomorrow and Friday. Yes, snow in April in the SF Bay area, up here at altitude (2100 ft). grumble grumble grumble
So instead I’m in Shalimar MVP. Waiting for husband to call to let me know if I need to go pick him up from the fire engine repair shop. You would think that another firefighter would be doing that, right? Yeah, no. more grumble grumble. I’d better get a nice restaurant lunch outta this 🙂
Snow in April here too. Granted it’s Wisconsin but I’ll still grumble along with you.
I hope you get your lunch!
And in Western NY. Not sure how the forecast and the eclipse will interact in terms of local visitors (I live in the direct path of the eclipse), but am expecting a Really Weird weekend. Our wee city is predicted to get anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 visitors for the eclipse — even the lower number far exceed our population.
Wow! I just read a long article in the Wash Po yesterday about the chief planner for this event in the state of New York. Her job started two years ago and other people in the governor’s office were asking, “What? You need a PLAN for people to go out in the yard and watch the sun?” Well, ha ha, YES, there’s a zillion details to plan for including major traffic logjams, bringing in food, water, and porta potties, etc. Texas is having a huge number of visitors here, too, but so far the forecast looks gloomy, which is very disappointing.
Snow here too in Montréal tonight and thru Friday, but should be sunny Monday for the eclipse.
Did you end up getting a nice lunch?
I’m in vintage Obsession from a mini. The juice is as dark as vanilla extract at this point, I’m sure it’s at least 35 years old. The label just says “perfume” not Eau de Parfum as my tall bottle does. I fell down a vintage rabbit hole this weekend after the poll questions. There are a few of the squatty dabber bottles on evil bay, and if memory serves me correct it was simply called Cologne when it was first released. No cp points but it does have spices, so maybe there’s some pepper in there somewhere.
Took cp points for salt in the form of actual salt water Monday as I was on a beach in Florida. Spent 5 days with my parents and we had just perfect weather. My mom tells me it’s raining today, so I timed that well. Madtownteen and I flew home last night. We flew right through a line of storms and the flight from atlanta to Madison got my daughter with the turbulence. Poor kid threw up. Twice.😥 She was fine the other 3 flights there and back but that last one was a doozy. The silver lining was when we landed, we were home. Greeted by snow.🤣
Hoo boy, that flight sounds horrible. But salt from actual saltwater sounds like an excellent approach to the CP!
Wow, that sounds like some truly terrible turbulence. I can’t even imagine what a white knuckle ride you two had.
5 days of perfect weather in Florida! Hope madtownteen still thinks it was worth it…I know I would.
About to get into the shower and wash off Eau Premiere. Will be switching over to Lyric afterwards. I am getting a little sick of Easter dinner leftovers. There is only so much ham and sweet potatoes a girl can eat. I don’t think my blood pressure can handle much more in terms of salt. Even with drinking tons of water.
Dawn-
I left you a message in the poll today, but in case you didn’t see it, I said I had almost a full bottle of Happy if you are interested in it. I have plenty of it. Just email me at k r i s p o n t o at sio dawt midco dawt net. (my name has no spaces). I was going to put it up for a freebie during swap week, but thought of you and thought you might like it.
You have until today to eat the leftovers since 3 days is the maximum time leftovers should be left in the fridge.
Oh, I had no idea. I just go my smell…🫠
That’s what my sister and BIL said too but when I have a meal at their place, it’s always take out or freshly cooked.
For what it’s worth, I’m also the one who closely monitors how long the power has been out, how many times the refrigerator has been opened (separate ones for the freezer and the fridge) and a plan for how to lessen the time the door is opened but not go hungry.
Same! I’ve eaten holiday leftovers a week after the event and never had any problems.
I’m so afraid of food poisoning, I only do 2 days.
Discovered via Fragrantica that I do have a number of scents with pepper notes (pink or black), but this morning grabbed non-CP-compliant HdP 1804 again, because my hoodie still smells like it — and I’m not sure 31RC is the right choice for an afternoon of student advising in my tiny, stuffy office.
Ha, perhaps not!
I’m enjoying this CP with its surprising results in my collection. Wearing Epice Marine for some salty sea breeze, but may switch to Dune later just to finish the seaside theme in my head.
Ooh, Dune! Now I know what I will wear Friday. I don’t have a large collection but sometimes I forget what I have til someone mentions it. Thanks Kanuka!
I’m wearing LL Poivre 23 today, the last of a small sample, and wishing I had more. I almost bought it last September when they were having sort of sales on the City perfumes, but was torn between it and Myrrhe whatever it is, and in the end, bought neither. Oh well. Poivre 23 is a very beautiful scent mixing incense and vanilla with a strong, freshly grated pepper, and the pepper really stays with you. It’s the sort of freshly ground pepper that has a bit of lemony freshness and I love that.
That’s a nice one, maybe I’ll wear that tomorrow.
I have always thought Poivre 23 is one of the most gorgeous fragrances. It will be my Friday fragrance this week. I only have a few drops left.
Would you consider getting Poivre 23 this September?
Here’s the job scoop.
I didn’t get the fellowship. I found out by going to the website and seeing the persons’ profile who was placed in the role.
No emails or phone calls these past three weeks.
Soooooooooo
zero for two.
Going to go see my sister for a week starting next week and then start over when I come back.
Or retire.
Still commando, think I will go with Indochine for the day.
I will refrain from saying the bad words in my head for those #$!%! interviewers who put you through the wringer and then didn’t even have the decency to contact you with a response. You deserve much better. If you can swing it financially, I recommend retirement, since I think you said you were 70? You would get your full social security and no more work headaches. Sending you hugs and wishes for a fun week with your sister.
Thank you for the kind words, cazaubon.
Yes, I already take my full social security, but I live in California and we like to travel so I am still wanting to bring in income and not touch my retirement accounts.
PLUS I like to puchase fragrance.
Wow, that is pathetic of them. Really unprofessional. You may be better off without them!
Enjoy your trip. I can recommend retirement 🙂
I know, Pixel.
There are worse things right now in the world.
Yes, my dear sister, we will enjoy each others company and I will see my nephew and already have pin money tucked away for the two grandaughters who want to hit up the Sephora sale.
I third retirement. Like cazaubon, I will refrain from making further comments about the arseholes.
Retirement, retirement.
I would be happy with a part time job at Nordstrom for the discount!
That sounds…not bad! (Nordstrom, discount). The fellowship folks, on the other hand, sound VERY bad. When we are hiring, we have to wait to inform finalists who didn’t get the job until our new hire has signed their contract. I hate the waiting – I know how stressful it is – but we DO tell people that they have not been selected. That is also really unpleasant, but it is the minimum professional courtesy that a committee should extend. Clearly, if their new hires profile is already online, the contract should have been wrapped up, and all the rest of you should have been notified. I know you know all this; I’m just adding some venting.
Oh, I’m so sorry apsara! Professionalism and courtesy are extinct in the work place (and many other places). We should team up and start a The Jobless Queens Agency so we can all support one another, because I’m about to be jobless, too. 😳
Deva, I just think you will work and work because nurses are so needed. Maybe not the wacko bunch you are with right now.
Im sorry that you were disregarded and discarded by a cruel and careless system. I hope your visit to your sister provides a happy break
Thanks Kanuka. She and I are a pair.
She cannot go to Tanzania without us hugging each other. It’s written into our code of sister conduct.
So sorry to hear this as it sounded so promising. If you can, I would say to retire. I love it!
I am so glad you do!
It boggles my mind that they can be that rude after all you went through. Even a simple and polite email would suffice. Seems like a
very basic courtesy.
That sucks you were treated so unprofessionally after all those interviews.
Oh, I am so sorry apsara. That must be a huge disappointment.
Glad you will have time with your sister, sisters are the best.
Wearing Cruel Gardenia as we batten down the hatches for a storm blowing in tonight through Friday. They are still announcing sun for the weekend and the eclipse Monday though.
Stay safe cazaubon!
Oy! I hope you get the promised sun on Monday!
You smell glorious. The updated weather: some people here are saying we will just get rain-no snow. Here’s hoping it all blows out to sea and we get nothing.
Time to stock up and hunker down!
Our forecast for Monday is cloudy. Seriously, we get fewer hours of sunlight per year than Seattle — not sure why people here are surprised, or what things will be like on Monday with however-many-thousands of disappointed eclipse tourists in town.
Not salty or peppery at all, just Mountain Ocean coconut lotion layered over the lingering scent of Lush Posh White Chocolate and Rose, which I wish I’d stockpiled while it was still available. Today’s step forward: my first normal, standing-up shower since my surgery, and it was heavenly. Also managing a few steps without a walking aid, although I’ll stick with my cane until I’m feeling truly steady. A cloudy day and I’m feeling soft and lazy and I’m okay with that!
Maybe LUSH will bring back the Posh White Chocolate and Rose next year?
A real shower, yay! Congratulations.
I’ve gone with memories of summer in L’Été Narguilé from Divine. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since my trip overseas when I bought this.
SOTD = Goutal Paris Nuit Etoilee EDT
So wonderfully good: lemony-mint, pine, fir and resins. I also always say it smells of the space in between campfire molecules – smoke between the smoke! 🩶

Confession time, again 🫣. You see, I get “seduced” by Instagram posts but really only for perfumers whose works I enjoy. Case in point, Francesca Bianchi. I don’t LOVE everything she’s made (e.g., the earlier ones smell like armpit, to use Vee’s word for another perfume) but I couldn’t seem to resist some of her newer ones based on notes description. To wit, I pre-ordered the latest Mariner’s Rhyme. Confession over.
For what it’s worth, here are some other perfumers whose work I enjoy and will likely purchase when the opportunities arise: Chris Rusak, Bruno Fazzolari, Diane St. Clair, Liz Moores, among others…
I love the name of your newest purchase. 🙂
No need to confess, I’m sure it was just a large sample right?😉
Perfect match between your SOTD and its animal companion today.
I’m sporting NV Trayee today because I thought it must surely have pepper in it, but nope. Not according to Fragrantica anyway. Still a lovely spice fest fit for royalty. 😊
About to be jobless along with apsara as I just called the manager of unit I’m working on and had a looong talk, wherein I did this:
https://youtu.be/gCWj8Nz5DUg?si=5naTjoh0Lh5vbSbp
(If you were a rocker from way back you’ll recognize this song immediately. And can we talk about how so many rock bands were headed by outstanding vocalists? Canada has enriched the world with so many masters of music. And the HAIR! I spent my entire formative years (at least from from 1978 to 1988) trying to have hair like this..!)
Chores to do, weather headed this way and I’m actually surprised it hasn’t hit yet. Woke up to a police care parked next to me. I hope he doesn’t think I’m cooking in my camper! 🚐
Sorry to hear about your work situation, and the fact that everywhere you work it seems to go from bad to worse.
Yeah, well, no worries, I’m about to done. I was lectured on being a “team player” to which I responded, “Well, you need to actually have a TEAM for that scenario, right?” 😂 I learned to say “No” late in life, so maybe I’m making up for lost time? And, to be clear, it’s not so much about me as it is about patient safety. Every single piece of evidence shows that the more patients a single nurse has, and the less support from ancillary staff, the higher the incidence of patient injury and mortality. So, everyone may be sick of nurses “complaining” but we are the canaries in the mine shaft. I don’t know about where you are, but here in the US, even physicians are taking up the fight for patient safety and safe ratios. Since many MD’s here are white and male, who typically get more attention and consideration than any color of female, maybe something will be done soon, but I’m not waiting around to be placed in a no win situation by a hospital system that cares more about profiting than patient care and safety. My first shift here I sent a patient to ICU while all the staff nurses rolled their eyes because they seemed to think it was an unnecessary transfer. The patient is still in ICU on pressors and septic as hell. Who was taking care of my other patients during this long drawn out scenario because I was at the bedside for hours trying to get this patient transferred, instead having support from the charge/resource/icu/rapid response RN? No one, that’s who. I sure hope you’re never one of the those patients that get minimal care because your nurse is trying to do three jobs at once. One of the staff nurses said to me, “Why do you even care. Just go numb.” 🫠 is t that lovely?
Rant over. Have a great day!
Patient safety and the scenario you just described are exactly why I left inpatient nursing. Good for you for speaking up. Managers need to hear this. If they hear it enough times maybe something will change.
That’s the reason all nurses leave hospital bedside nursing. It’s why I left in 2011 and jumped in bed with the enemy by working from home for an insurance company for 4 years. But, I did end on a positive note because everyone is very nice and I told her I appreciate that! Of course she fell back in the old “oh we just can’t find anyone because of the nursing shortage,” which is a flat out lie. There is no shortage. Besides which, what about techs/CNA’s to at least answer lights? One of the other travelers told me she was asked to extend her contract but then they offered her less pay…?! Staff nurses are nice but basically the walking dead. 🧟 Anyway, I consoled myself by buying a bottle of Box of Eels extrait, thanks to Foxbins pointing me in the right direction to actually find someplace that has stock. It’s a win for that reason alone! 😂
https://youtu.be/eIjEauGiRLo?feature=shared
I thought this was going to be the song. Lol.
I’m always happy to see and hear Triumph! I am also thankful to Canada for some of the best rock music ( remember April Wine?) And some of the funniest comedians (SCTV!, Norm Macdonald..etc..)
Of COURSE I remember April Wine! And cannot leave out RUSH, one of my top five bands. RIP Norm Macdonald and Neil Peart. 😢
Lol. I thought this was going to be the song:
https://youtu.be/4xmckWVPRaI?si=Aa7–J2MD_RaSv4b
And yep, I remember April Wine too.
Ha! All great songs!🤘
Ha – that’s the song I thought of, too!
I did as well! Great minds with a significant ornery streak!
Ha ha, I expected the same song, lillyjo!
Thunked a sample of Sleigh of Fern.
I’m in Ta’if Elixir on my left arm and Mohur on my right. Both have pepper, both are lovely. 😊
You smell amazing!
I might wear Ta’if on Friday.
Frozen mango, pear and yogurt smoothie
Au Pays de la Fleur d’oranger Néroli blanc, still my best ob and tonight VC&A Ambre Imperial for the CP and having it prevented me from getting, ambre, elixir, eau des Merveilles so I’m grateful to this perfume.
So that VC&A perfume saved you from picking up 3 other perfumes?
😀 that’s my reasoning too.
I reached into the sample grab bag and pulled out 4160 Tuesdays The Sexiest Scent on the Planet.
iso E! Good stuff if you like it (and I do).
I’m wearing Parle Moi de Parfum’s Milky Musk. Such a nice skin scent. I’ve been helping Mr. SP with rebuilding our rotting deck and then weeding. Now a break for rooibos tea!
Wow, that’s a lotta work! How long before the deck is shipshape? (I can’t believe I just typed that…)
I went to the outlet mall looking for Pyrex food containers but the store is gone, so I went shoe shopping and had Korean tacos for lunch. Then, as I was driving home, my speedometer went wonky, showing me going 90 mph when I was going 50, and 45 mph when I was at 60. I have an appointment at the shop on Friday. Then, as I turned on to my street, a bald eagle flew right toward my windshield. I have seen them on hikes in the foothills but never in town. It was amazing.
SOTD is Astier de Villatte Delhi (again) I still love it but longevity is the pits.
One good turn deserves another: PYREX is different from Pyrex. PYREX is the best and safe in oven, stovetop and freezer. Pyrex is not. You may have better luck finding the original PYREX at a thrift store or Goodwill. And I scored a bottle of the extrait from Saks New York, so thank you and another enabler pin to add to your crown!
I had no idea about the differences in Pyrexes (Pyrexi?) I thought they were all borosilicate glass. Thanks!
(So happy you got Box of Eels!)
Sounds like your speedometer might have a loose cable. It’s an easy fix if that is the case.
Checking in from my late night. I’m wearing my newly acquired Sicily. I went on fragrantica to see what people were saying about my sotd and a few people compared it with the original Caress soap. I can see/smell that but it’s so much more. Powdery with aldehydes. I love it.
Glad that you are happy with your new perfume!
Roofers were back this morning, but only here for half a day. Then they moved on to the building next to time. It’s an improvement! Teflon did not have to give the ceiling any dirty looks today.
Hoping that I will be able to see the eclipse where I am at. The weather forecast is looking kind of sketchy for Monday. It won’t be anywhere near totality, but I am OK with that.
SOTD = EL Legacy White Linen, from The Sample Stash.
Curious to know if any in your EL sample set have set loose a full bottle lemming? Hope the weather holds for you!
Two of the EL Legacy samples were disappointing, especially since I was comparing them to the original formulations in my head.
The other three could be travel spray worthy. But this lemming has been taking a lot of naps in bright sunshine lately.
I think Monday is supposed to be cloudy with possible rain here.
Last forecast I saw was partly cloudy for Monday. But I will only get about 65 percent totality here.
Wish I could have seen the total eclipse back in 2017.
