It's Hump Day and and there are 6 more days of winter to go. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've got Tauerville Vanilla Flash (included in 5 perfumes ~ vanilla fragrances for fall) on one arm and Rose Flash on the other.
Reminder: 3/15 will be Vanilla Friday...wear your bestest vanilla for spring (or fall, if you're in the southern hemisphere.) (This is a repeat from 2018, when we did it in January.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am I Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar for the CP.
Another nice, warm, and pleasant. So thankful for it!
Happy Wednesday!đ
Twins today!!
Yay! We smell great!
You both really do.
Thank you, Robin!
you sure do, love this one!
Thank you, Apsara! It is a great vanilla scent!
This is a beauty. I might dig out and wear my very partial bottle on Friday.
You will smell amazing!
I am wearing I Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar. Itâs an old bottle i got in Florence.
I am so happy that the winter is coming to an end.
I don’t know what I was thinking, not getting that when I was in Florence. I got a half dozen of their scents (the little Concentrato bottles) but that wasn’t one of them. Anyway, you smell great!
I love these concentrato bottles. The one I have is Amber and musc.
me too, I have the ambre tucked away.
You and pl67 both smell wonderful!
Vanilla day three, in L’Artisan Parfumeur Vanilia. The last couple of times I’ve worn it, I’ve realized that I don’t love it the way I used to, and I’m pretty certain it hasn’t changed, I have. Maybe I need to swap it away to someone who will give it the appreciation it deserves, because it really is good, evenly balanced between a relatively austere vanilla (not the big flamboyant CSP version) and the flowers that it comes from, plus some sandalwood for good measure.
I feel the same about Vanilia, it was my favourite vanilla for a very long time and now i donât feel the same way!! it smells good though!!
I have Vanilia lined up for tomorrow. I do remain a fan, but wear it only rarely.
AGree 100% with you and Hera.
Great choices, Robin!
I am in Diptyque Eau Duelle. A good winter/spring transition vanilla. Warm and cosy on a cold day but with all these aromatic notes that remind you of spring.
Yep, that is the perfect spring vanilla! I might wear it tomorrow or Friday.
I’m wearing another Nicolai creation, Balle de Match, one of my favorite (male) scents.
Yay, a BdM sighting! (and so prefer BdM to Eau du Sport or whatever it is now.)
Hello.
Sotd is Libre Le Parfum. Thick, syrupy Libre. It’s got enough vanilla in it too. It’s nice but my favourite Libre is still the Intense, which I actually finished!
Taking a coffee and strawberry Kit Kat pause from Day of Grant Applications.
For the CP, I went into the archives & dug out my small 20+ y.o. bottle of Falling in Love, which if I recall correctly I splashed out the big bucks for at about 4.99 at the Maxx. It is not really “me,” but is certainly a good match with a strawberry Kit Kat!
(I gather this one was reformulated, so if anyone is a fan and wants a half-full 1 oz bottle, SIB, feel free to send me a note – click on profile name – and it is yours.)
That’s the Philosophy? I got confused for a minute with YSL In Love Again.
Yes, the Philosophy – blackberry/vanilla/musk.
Definitely NOT the YSL and definitely not a JCE concoction.
I don’t know what a hump day really is, so sorry.
I am in a phase where I feel the need to try more of our local perfumes.
The one I am currently in love with is Krasnaya Moskva light or “Red Moscow Light” created in 2018
It is the lighter and more modern version of the classical Red Moscow which was released by Novaya Zarya (The New Dawn) in 1927. They say that it was a formula of our Emperess or something: It may date from before the Russian Revolution of 1917 as Le Bouquet PrĂ©fĂ©rĂ© de l’ImpĂ©ratrice (The Empressâ Favorite Bouquetâ), a fragrance created in Henri Brocard’s factory in 1913
Light version still smells very classical with Ylan-Ylang and Carnation, it is a flower oriental family and rumor has it – it’s reminiscent of Vanderbilt Gloria Vanderbilt (I never smelled this one)
This fragrance smells a lot more expensive than it actually is (15$ for 50 ml EdP)
Hump day is Wednesday, Veronika đ Means week is half over.
ahhh! Thank you! đ
Exactly, think of the week as a hill you climb and then come back down!
Now I get it! Thank you!
I have a sample of original Red Moscow somewhere…I should find it!
I wonder if you like it =) I think it smells a bit similar to L’Heure Blue and L’air du Temps at the same time. I love both so I really like Red Moscow too
It is not me but I remember thinking that it was quite impressive as a lower priced fragrance, and that it didn’t smell like I expected. Bear in mind that LHB & LadT are not “me” either!
I’m in Goutal’s Vanille Charnelle, which is different enough from their gorgeous Vanille Exquise that I can make a case for both, in my collection. I also like the special bottle they had for this issue. I’m loving vanilla week đ
yes, Carole! it is such a beautiful and universally loved ingredient!
Todayâs photo reminds me that I need to check the redbud tree in my front yard. I donât think itâs got any buds yet, and I worry that our recent ridiculously cold weather may have damaged it â itâs my favorite tree. SOTM is 24, Faubourg.
What a wonderful choice! One of my favorites too. Suits spring weather perfectly!
I agree – so gorgeously spring-y!
Is your tree OK?
Looks like it â it has very tiny buds, more dark magenta at this point than the pretty pink in the photo. Hopefully they will open up and lighten up as spring progresses. đ
I’m wearing my sample of Viktoria Minya’s Eau de Hongrie which turns out is a CP fail – I was remembering it as having vanilla, but it’s really a honeyed wine fragrance. However, it’s a big win for the day as it’s just beautiful. Softly floral along with the honeyed wine. I just checked our weather and we have some gorgeous days ahead here in Seattle and I am here for it!!
Jalapeno, looks like you may get your first big Colorado snowstorm since moving back. Stay cozy!
Sounds a beautiful perfume and glad about the weather, hope the sun shines!
Thanks – it’s shining today!
I do love Eau de Hongrie and will be getting a bottle but that’s latter on this year.
It’s so pretty.
Thanks, springpansy! So far, all I’ve seen is a bit of rain. But the weather folks are predicting 31 inches of snow at Winter Park! The mountains are going to get clobbered again.
In keeping with the week’s vanilla motif, I’m wearing “Fire At Will” from Jovoy Paris. This one really surprised me; I never thought vanilla and brown sugar notes would work on me, but, lo and behold, I love this stuff. It’s unapologetically sweet, but somehow isn’t cloying.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
“Sweet but not cloying” is what I wistfully hope for in a sweet perfume. It’s not the biggest group in the collection, but they can really hit the spot.
I’ve been curious about that one. Definitely a sample in my future.
I was decanting some Ortigia Sicilia Ambra Nera for a friend, who had some amber, maybe as attar, as a child, and who loved it. Anyway, am sort-of wearing some of that today. Yay for the countdown to spring!
We are almost there!
Yesterday I wore Angelique Noire from a sample received just months ago. Can someone confirm that this was reformulated when they changed bottles? I never got a chance to try AN until this sample but was curious about it for years. I do like the current version but it’s definitely not a love. The opening makes me think of fancy shampoo before it gets to a nice but unremarkable vanilla base.
Today I went with Atelier des Ors Lune Feline for the CP. I like that it sits close to the skin so it’s definitely a spring appropriate vanilla. If I reapply it later, I’ll surely finish off my sample.
I don’t notice a big difference but will try to remember to do a side by side and let you know.
Thanks! Just curious if I should seek out any vintage.
You smell wonderful. Lune Feline is one of my PurplLux travel sprays, and is what I was hoping to find in my FB of Babycat. LF’s spices are done just right.
Thank you! And so funny, I prefer Babycat for being more full bodied and having a perfect blend between head shop incense and vanilla. If you ever consider swapping your bottle, let me know. Although I know those are coveted and pricey, so I know I may not have the right match to offer.
The chestnuts and acorns have started to fall to the ground, the season for playing conkers is here. I doubt that â conkersâ is a game anymore but, like skipping stones or dropping twigs off a bridge into a stream ( Pooh sticks) for races, it is actually pretty cool. Wearing Ambre des Merveilles for a nice autumn vibe.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conkers
That sounds like a fun game! I wonder why it never made it over here to the U.S.
Well, Conkers is very interesting, and I knew nothing about it until today!
Ambre des Merveilles is the perfect autumn vibe!
Iâm taking this opportunity to wear Kenzo Jungle lâElephant because I need to ride the wave of a big beautiful, perfume today. Of course it has vanilla.
I think I can confidently bet there is vanilla in every single perfume I own. Itâs sometimes not the main note, but is often being a Best Supporting Actor whose performance is so subtle and delicate you might overlook it. Or it might be a Behind the Scenes master that brings the whole show together, coalescing into an Academy Award Winner of scent. I love vanilla and I cannot lie!
Happy Hump Day!
I love it too, Deva!
I gave my bottle of Jungle away, it got cloying for me after a time. More out there for you to enjoy!
Smelling great in The Elephant! đ
Wearing no 5 edp today. Made the phone calls I needed to make and gave my dogs their Barkbox. They were not too enthused with this month’s toys but they have a million others that they play with. I still think that Barkbox is worth it even when they might not care for whatever month’s toys might be.
I am always shocked at how many toys my mom buys for her cat! I’m surprised she hasn’t yet found whatever the cat equivalent of Barkbox is, but she will eventually đ
Wearing Violette Volynka because I was lazy and it was on my desk. When this wears off, I’ll switch too Patchouli Leaves. It’s one of the rare perfumes I have that has lots of vanilla. I love how it softens and warms the patchouli (plus an amber note.)
That’s the Montale? I liked that one.
Yes, I remember that you liked this, too. đ
I’m copying Robin in Vanilla Flash today. For the first time, it’s really reminding me of PHI, not sad about that at all!
đ
Wearing Le Plus Beau Jour de Ma Vie, hate the name but like the perfume. Smells like vanilla almonds to me.
It’s not a good name! But vanilla almond is good.
Lancome Miracle
Joining others in the lovely Eau Duelle today.
Great choice!
Hey twin!
Apple, mango, pear and yogurt smoothie
AdP Vaniglia today for the CP, and tonight it’s Arquiste Infanta en flor.
I am skipping dessert tonight in an effort to lose the pounds I put on over vacation last week, so your smoothie sounds even more wonderful than usual đ
đSo glad you had the occasion to indulge, hope it’s not too hard to diet now.
I will get rid of it by Sunday for sure đ
Good morning! My mother is coming home today after three weeks in short term care. Her arm will still be a long time in healing, but she’ll be OK at home with several visits a day from support services.
It’s fantastic that such support is available, but I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone on hold over the last few days while also working. It’s been a frantic few days, but I will be flying home tonight.
I’m wearing Divine’s L’Ătre AimĂ© again, it does have vanilla tucked away in there somewhere
And peaches and lily, you smell wonderful. Glad to hear that that care is available for your mother.
Glad to hear itâs working out. The district nurses in Dunedin are amazing people ( if thatâs who you will have). Incredibly experienced, seen it all types , who are kind and unflustered and just brilliant. They visited me for months and were the best nurses around.
Kanuka,
I was so sad when the series about nurses in the outback in Australia finished its’ second season. BUT last night my sister and I found a new one on Amazon, Anzac Girls.
About the nurses who went by ship to Cairo at the battle of Gallipoli and were on the front lines in their long skirts and shirtwaists.
And of course, we have have to watch Call the Midwife.
Pleased to hear that your Mom is headed home, and that she will have people to look after her.
Sounds like it’s still a lot of work for you, but so glad it is working out and she’s heading home.
Thanks to a wonderful NSTer I am in Dusita La Douceur de Siam today. Although it is hard for me to believe, it does have vanilla in it.
That’s a pretty one, but no, it doesn’t even murmur of vanilla.
You smell lovely!
I’m so far trying to do less obvious vanillas. Today’s choice is Fleur des Comores by MaĂźtre Parfumeur et Gantier, a lovely and soft floral vanilla. In my mind it sits somewhere in between Vanilla AP and Songes.
I have some of that–my bottle is very low now–and hadn’t thought of it, but will pull it out for tomorrow! Thanks!
I’m trying Puente Iris Doux today, as my discovery set finally turned up in the mail. It does have some vanilla in the base, so I’m CP-compliant. I’m really enjoying this one — very well made, beautifully balanced so far. I will need to test it against my sample of Iris Nazarena, which I haven’t worn for awhile, to see if it moves up the list ahead of IN.
It’s warming up here this week…just in time for our spring break ski trip next week.
How long did it take for your discovery set to show up?
SOTD is Les Immondables Havanne Vanelle. Love this one.
Mornings’ interview went well. Think am turning a corner here.
Yay! Is there one more interview left?
This was a brand new one!
For a remote role here in LA.
Final rounds on Monday and the following week.
I even got my butt on my bike today.
Feb was dark month.
So glad to hear your good news and fingers crossed for more good news in the next few weeksđ
Glad to hear things are looking up for you!
Fingers crossed for you!
Great news!
Welp, I put on my Tocade this morning, so cheerful, and have now segued into Samsara, which seems to have vanilla, though that is definitely not the main player. It definitely wears me instead of the other way around.
Tocade exploded on me, and became this enormous kaiju of a perfume the one and only time I tried it. đ”
Samsara is much better behaved for me. đ
For the CP, Atelier Vanille Insensee. I’ve had this for a while and my memory of it got mixed up with Jasmine Angelique. But on this very warm day (77F currently), I am finding I don’t think I’ve ever worn it. Very nice vanilla with vetiver, woods and amber. Certainly unisex, and quite a contrast with yesterday’s Tocade.
IIRC, Vanille Insensee works very well in the heat & humidity of a New Jersey summer.
But I never reached for the travel spray I used to have.
SOTD = Maya Njie Vanilj
Love this one too!

In other news, would you stop going to a restaurant that charges you $100 per person for either cancelling or being a no show? Iâm sure there are rules about this (let the restaurant know at least 24 hours before unless there was an emergency). I wonât let this stop me because I try my best to be a rule follower – why deprive myself of a great meal?
The Washington Post had an article on that today and it was a man whose son had an asthma attack and so he went to the ER, and cancelled the reservation 23 hours before the dinner time, but got a $200 fee–for two people–and yes I thought that was outrageous!
It would stop me if I had more than 2 people in the party.
I’ve come around to thinking of restaurant reservations as being similar to theater tickets, so I don’t really mind the idea that you have to pay whether or not you show up. They are promising to hold a table for me instead of letting another customer have it, so it seems fair that I shoud promise to spend enough to make that hold worth it for them. It is so easy for restaurants to adopt a first-come-first-served policy, rather than managing a reservation system, but then you end up with long wait times before you can get a table and I hate that. All this said, I hope that restaurants would be reasonable about not charging if you give them enough notice that your table can get reserved by someone else (unlike the restuarant where the guy has to take his son to the ER).
I’ve never had to cancel a restaurant reservation, so that fee doesn’t faze me in the slightest. I suspect a business that would charge a cancellation fee is a place I am unlikely to patronize in the first place, though.
I brought out my very old bottle of Hanae Mori today, the one with the butterfly, in the belief it was a vanilla bomb, but when I looked up the notes, was shocked to see it actually doesn’t have any vanilla! How about that! I guess somehow the combination of flowers and woods and almond in it adds up to an olfactory dupe of vanilla. It’s really too sweet for me now but I remember loving it 20+ years ago when I bought it. It’s a pretty and gentle fragrance.
Yesterday I didn’t manage to post but I joined several of you in wearing SL Vanille de Bois.
I would have sworn it had vanilla!
I also thought that HM Butterfly had vanilla in it. I remember getting a delicious cheesecake-type note from that, too.
I would not ever assume a perfume had no vanilla because it was not listed in the notes.
I bought it for my sister. Such a pretty bottle it was.
I woke up not feeling well and have not put any perfume on.
I’m pretty sure itâs a sinus infection and made a Doctor appointment for tomorrow.
It’s probably 70 degrees here and gorgeous out. I’m just sitting on the deck watching the new pup explore the yard.
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon and get help from the doctor.
Thanks Glannys.
Boo hiss for not feeling well! You just got over a sinus infection recently, didn’t you?
I had one last fall. I get it a few times a year. It really knocks me out.
I’m sorry. That really sucks.
Feel better soon, Lillyjo!
Thanks pl67.
Watching some rain fall this afternoon. It’s supposed to change over to rain/snow and then snow late this evening. Glad I went to the grocery store earlier on. Didn’t even need a coat; a sweatshirt over a long-sleeved shirt was fine.
I am looking at some predicted snow totals with a fair amount of disbelief. If they *do* pan out, this will be a decent dump. And I will hunker down and not go anywhere.
SOTD = commando, except for a Chai Tea lotion on my shins. I was in a bit of a hurry with my errands and forgot to grab perfume.
sweater/sweatshirt but no coat weather is the best. I hope those snow predictions turn out to be overblown
Where I am at could stand to see some precip. It’s been too dry. And I would much rather see snow than hail.
Colorado has the unfortunate distinction of having the worst hail in the country…
I saw your weather! Glad you are all set for staying in.
I am not in the Denver metro area, so they will be getting more snow. Most of the forecasts I am seeing are between 4 – 12 inches. That’s quite a range!
4 inches is still nuisance snow in my book. 12 inches is enough to slow things down for a day or two.
I’m wearing an entire sample of Indult Reve en Cuir. Super refined leather with lots of cloves, some oakmoss, and a bit of vanilla. It is beautiful, but it is so quiet I can barely smell it unless I have my nose touching my wrist, and even then I need to breathe deep.
Tea today is Clipper Ship’s Enchanted Forest, which is not quite a sibling, but maybe a counsin of MF’s Marco Polo tea.
With those notes, it’s hard to believe that your SOTD is so stealthy.
Agree 100%. I’m looking other other people’s reviews of it and the stealthiness seems to be a common comment. It’s too bad because it really is beautiful
Organza Indecence today, even though itâs a bit warm for it. â€ïž
How could I forget to add Organza Indecence to my vanilla list??
You smell amazing, of course!
Thank you, Glannys! You smell lovely in Eau Duelle. â€ïž
I am wearing Gypsy Water for a diversion from more straight up vanillas. It does seem âspringâ to me because of the juniper note but works for any season.
I think I like every version of vanilla – straight up, gourmand, spicy, woody and ones with white floral.
Very warm day but I spent most of it inside, sadly.
