It's Friday and National Peanut Brittle Day. Birthdays: Bessie Coleman, Paul Newman, Lucinda Williams. We're off to The Caribbean! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that is named for a place in The Caribbean, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to The Caribbean, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm doing nutmeg and allspice + the island travel theme, in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur.
Reminder: 2/2 is Groundhog Day...assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, and pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year. (This is a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Great choice, Robin! I miss L’Eau du Gouverneur.
I am in Creed Virgin Island Water. I think it is my most Caribbean scent – named after a place in The Caribbean, has rum, coconut, lime and sugar cane. I wonder if I have any twins today.
I bet you will have twins! I might even have one. But I am so late getting here today…
I just smelled this today when perfume window-shopping, and I’m definitely a fan. You smell wonderful!
I can’t think of anything I own that’s particularly Caribbean in any aspect so I’m wearing something beachy, which I guess is at least borderline on-topic: Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Été, a summer-sun mix of carnation, ylang, and vanilla. Heaven.
Quite close enough pyramus!
Hello and tgif!
I have never been to the Caribbean but if I were, I would definitely be rocking my sotd, Bronze Goddess. I also layered with the shimmer body oil and I am feeling glamorous. Not one to tan, because I burn instead but at least I smell the part! 😉
I mostly burn too 🙂
I get crispy too. Wish I was joking about that.
Wearing Bobby Brown Beach for the CP.
Happy Friday! ⛱️
We are scent siblings! I am in Clean Ultimate Beach Day. It smells just like BB Beach!🌞
Perfect choice with Beach! Happy Friday to you!
Happy Friday to you! Hope that you have a restful weekend.
I chose Dior Escale a Portofino for the CP. It’s not named for anything in the Caribbean, obviously, BUT it is part of Dior’s Cruise Collection and many years ago Mr. G and I chartered a tiny catamaran and cruised the British Virgin Islands for two weeks. That was an adventure. ⛵️
Wow, that does sound like an adventure!
Seconding the wow! What a great thing to do.
Wow #3! Just the two of you? How fabulous.
Wow #4! Dang!
Definite Wow!
Absolutely a WOW adventure!
That is so cool!
Happy Friday, all! I’m wearing Caswell Massey Michelsen Bay Rum. This bottle has got to be several decades old – it previously belonged to my dad who died almost ten years ago. He had a small collection of fragrances, and I always enjoyed buying them for him. It doesn’t actually remind me of the Caribbean, but I did walk through my weed-saturated neighborhood earlier and I probably reek of that and so hey! good memories of Jamaica.
Nice memories!
I really enjoyed my walk down memory lane!
LOL!
So Jamaica and Colorado smell the same now? 🤪
Hello everyone!
I’m on theme today on the spicy wonder that is Splash Forte by IUNX. I remember the description called it a “Jamaican water,” and it is spicy and warm without a bit of sweetness. I was lucky enough to find a back up bottle of this one, since it’s such a no-brainer for me.
I have a few hours before my class but I am tired! I cannot tell you how long I snoozed today. I’m going perfume shopping with my brother’s fiancee on Sunday and I’m excited to get to know her better while taking part in one of my favorite activities.
Have a great weekend all!
Are you going to help her pick a wedding perfume?
She said signature perfume, so maybe she wants to have something consistent. I’ll report back!
I hope the perfume shopping goes well, you might create a new perfumista!
It’s possible! We’re walking straight to the Malle counter. 😂
I wish IUNX hadn’t gone away😞
Me too. I could easily live in L’Ether 25% of the year.
Looking forward to reading about a recap of your perfume expedition!
Seconded!
Wearing Divine Perfumes Nice Bergamot, which is a ridiculous name for a pretty, bright citrus scent. I think I’ll probably be “voted off the island” today but I couldn’t find my CSP stash…
I did thunk 3 (!) samples of vanillas last night. I think I got these way back in 2009 when I was on my vanilla quest to replace my beloved Vanilla Lace. They were all Montales and they had all turned. I scrubbed them off one by one and kept trying but maxed out at three. One was Oriental something and the other two had vanilla in the name, an Absolue and something else I can’t remember.
Triple Thunk! 🙌
Nothing worse than a sample that goes off! Except maybe three in a row. 😵💫
Wow to the triple thunk!!
Ava Luxe Palisander
Another winner
Thunk
That one’s a beauty
It’s GORGEOUS!!!
So, do you have a sample of the Angel Face? I will probably order one out of curiosity.
If I did I would have mailed it to you already! That’s the Les dupe! Last night I filled a cart with four samples and that was one of them. But I didn’t pull the trigger
Lea
Not Les
I’m in a couple drops of Monyette, because it was near at hand and CP appropriate and I’m tired and lazy today. 🙂 Off to a four-hour retreat/meeting all about bears at a beautiful nature center, which is a pretty charming way to end the work week!
I want to work where you work! 🐻
It’s pretty great! This is a group of biologists working to educate the public about living with bears and hopefully getting out ahead of the kinds of issues that create conflict between bears and humans.
I went on a winter “safari” in Yellowstone years ago led by a husband and wife team of biologists- it was incredible! I learned so much from them, about the Y2Y corridor, their personal research regarding martens…so many things! I’ll never forget it! Thanks for what you do.👏🏼👏🏼
you smell great! Do you have a risk of encoutering bears at work?
A possibility, but no risk involved! We only have black bears here, and around these parts they’re *very* shy. I used to work around them all the time in the Sierras and have about a million wonderful, silly, moving bear stories, but I’ve not yet seen one here even though I’m in their habitat all the time.
Happy FriYAY everyone! My SOTD is Waves perfume oil mixed with China Musk perfume oil from Life SF Perfume store (in the Haight). If I could hope on a plane right now, my ultimate beach trip destination would be The Dry Tortugas (most Southern Tip of FL), Turks and Caicos or St. Barts. Adding, any beach in S. Africa, but especially Boulders Beach, with the African Penguins!
I would be happy with any of those destinations!! Honestly I’d be happy for SUN anywhere.
It’s amazing the difference that sunlight makes in how a person feels. Especially this time of year.
I own no Caribbean inspired fragrances. So, I’m wearing, from a sample, Replica ‘At The Beach’ today which is the closest thing I have.
I meant to say Replica ‘Beach Walk’.
Twins! And I didn’t even know the category for today- I’m just so sick of cold and rain that I wanted an olfactory escape! What do you think of it?
Wearing the discontinued Havana Vanille aka Vanille Absolument. I have no idea on why L’Artisan discontinued thus one. It was the first vanilla that I loved.
I love that one too! I wore that one earlier this week. You smell delicious!
I almost wore that this week but didn’t get to it…maybe this weekend.
I’m sad I didn’t get to try this one before it got DCed.
Calyx for me today; it’s maybe not strictly on CP but it reminds me of warmer weather and tropical climes.
I survived my company’s annual awards ceremony yesterday, which they have at a theatre out in the burbs. They make us turn up between 3 and 8 p.m., and then somehow every year they never order enough finger food. This year they didn’t put the food out until after the show (lesson learned from last year), but even still if you left the theatre in the middle of the pack the locusts had already descended and nothing was left or refilled. Honestly, I should charge the dinner I had to get when I got home to them. I’m looking forward to the weekend, even if it will be rainy.
Was this a mandatory “meeting”? If not, you’re not obliged to go, right? And what cheapskates! They probably under ordered because they anticipated people not showing up.
Mandatory…no. Highly advised and expected? Yes. We even shut all our retail locations early so staff can attend. We have to RSVP so they know in advance how many people are going to be there, so SMH.
Yeah, no. I’d have had a problem with my car or some such. The older I get, the less other people get to mess with my personal time. Sorry you had to go through it, with insufficient food being the salt in the wound. 🫠
😀 I was kind of looking forward to it, because I don’t get to see people in person anymore. But then the setup was weird (two floors, some people on one and others on another, and people moving between, so it was hard to find people I wanted to see), and I was hungry. So I left.
Calyx sounds like the perfect antidote to a bizarre evening!
It was! (And the evening was more bizarre than I even described, including me being the only one in a party limo being driven to a subway station.)
So probably not the bump in staff engagement that the company is hoping for 🙂
No. 🙂 Lots of complaints about the food…I imagine they’re going to take a hit in the survey feedback, just as they did last year.
You smell great!
Calyx has that wonderful guava note! Works for me.
Ughhh, what a nightmare. And HR and leadership are probably so deluded they think the employees love it and find it highly motivating.
Reminds me of back when I worked retail, the store owner wanted us to stay late AFTER the store closed to do employee gift exchange. It was 5:30 on Christmas Eve.
Happy Friday, all! I’m so glad the weekend is upon us.
I’m wearing Vanille Havane. My decant is sadly evaporating, I need to buy some non-spray screw top vials for a few of my decants ASAP.
Decant evaporation, the struggle is real. I’ve decided no more for me because of this. Hopefully your new tops will help.
Same here, no more decants!
Start spraying lavishly!!!!
I noticed some of my samples were evaporating when I packed them up for the move. Hopefully I haven’t lost too many of them.
Wearing Bronze Goddess today for the coconut and also the general vacation vibes.
Yep, it’s still the best!
I wore MPG Bahiana this morning which felt sort of cp-adjacent, but I think it’s mostly gone already. Going to add Guerlain Angelique Noire so then I’ll likely be completely non-cp.
We’ll be off to a Kraken hockey game this evening. Happy Friday!
Happy Friday! Have fun tonight😊
Oh, that is a great scent even if it doesn’t last.
Enjoy the game!
Already starting to hear talk about Stanley Cup contenders. Too early folks!
I’m in Lea by Calypso St Barth for the cp. As you know, down to the last few mls.
It is the total opposite of beachy here with gray skies, light rain and 35 degrees. I guess it could be worse?
It’s my day off but I was up early for a doctors appointment. Just my annual exam which was rescheduled from March 2023.😳 Yep, they are that backed up. When I checked in I went ahead and scheduled my appointment for next January. lol.
I love St Barth body products, their oils are so rich and moisturizing.
It definitely could be worse!
It’s kind of scary out far out some doctors are booking appointments now.
Wearing Hemingway for the Haitian vetiver… and isn’t Hemingway’s house in Key West?
Yes, and it is filled with cats!
Polydactyl cats–famous for their many toes/thumbs!
I love Polydactyl kitties!
I went with BWF Rogue Champs Lunaires.
Happy Friday Kris!
I wore a mini of Narciso White Cube, at least the gardenia is giving a hint of warmer climes.
I would not have bought this, but some nice perfumista gave it to me as a gift and once a year or so it gets worn.
You smell great in White Cube!
no cp for me.
not in beach mindset at all.
Think I will go with Tea for Two post shower.
Hope it was a good day apsara.
Hope you feel better!
Tea for Two is a lovely scent.
I’ll be testing some new things over the weekend, my little package of samples from Luckyscent arrived yesterday after finally escaping a USPS vortex around Delaware, NY and NJ.
It was entertaining to track my package, but even better that it’s arrived safely. It’s been well-looked after, I thought the package would be a bit battered, but not at all.
Cheers for finally getting your package! 🥳 I hope you enjoy your samples enough to make it worthwhile. At least you got a little amusement out of it.
Yay for finally getting them — and in good shape!
I’m wearing Areej le Doré Plumeria de Orris. After many hours decluttering my friend’s house (and we still aren’t finished) I’m spending today decluttering my own. Hope to bring a few bags to donate this afternoon.
It’s such a good idea to declutter with a friend!!
Yes, we motivate each other!
You smell gorgeous!!!!!!
Thanks! I also cleaned out & organized the perfume closet, in which I discovered some exciting backup bottles and another bottle of this cute little perfume I bought in Paris years ago called Antoine et Lili, it smells like nag champa!
SOTD = ELDO Fat Electrician
Vetiver ❤️❤️❤️
The connection to the Caribbean is the little butt crack of some beachgoers whose bottom attire does not quite fit … and maybe it’s Haitian vetiver?

I am watching a new show (for me) on Netflix called “Loudermilk”. It is about a has been music critique whose best work was done while he was under the influence. He is in recovery and had been trying to help others and at the same time jeopardizing his vulnerabilities. I am on Season 2 with one more season to go. As to Northern Exposure on Prime, I will need to get on it when I can withstand the commercials – it’s enough to make me addicted to gambling, NOT, but there’s just so many of them!
😀 on the CP link.
I’ve never watched Prime — they make you pay for a subscription (or at least Prime overall) and then subject you to commercials?!
Oooh, I did not even look at it! I recently got an email from Amazon extolling the virtues of Prime. I was not persuaded by it nor did it cause me to terminate my subscription.
The commercials are a recent thing. I believe you can now pay an extra $2.99/mo to be ad free. I don’t think I’ve watched anything on there since this started, so dunno if I’ll do that. Debating the value of being a Prime member at all TBH.
I have the Hulu subscription with commericals and two of every three commericals is for an online casino. I wish when NJ starting allowing them they had prohibited tv advertising for them. Meanwhile my friend in DC gets nothing but political/PAC ads on her Hulu, so I guess it could be worse.
I got my free Hulu subscription just to watch Murders in the Building and then I stopped it because there’s no way I can use Netflix, Prime and another one.
As to the gambling ads, they should treat it as the addiction it is.
We get all the gambling ads here when we watch whatever my spouse subscribes to for NFL. (DAZN, pronounced “da zone”?) The sports betting ads are driving me nuts when we watch. At least the cycling streaming has a lot less of that.
Your cp connection is hilarious 🤣
I get gambling commercials non stop from local radio. Followed by gambling addiction commercials by the governor. Lol.
LOL!
I’m listening to terrestrial radio stations out here in CO. One of them has a TON of commercials directed at people who are experiencing possible low testosterone…
Lurve your SOTD!
😀 Low T!
For today’s CP, I’m wearing G&B Island Lush from a sample. I tried it once before but didn’t remember it. I decided to wear it because of the name, but I am puzzled. All I get is suede/leather! Why name a perfume in such a contrary way? I don’t get it. Going to change back to Ylang Ylang. 🤨
Remember this sample the next time we do a “name doesn’t match” cp!
Great idea!
Ylang Ylang is perfect for chasing away the Winter Gloomies.
I have never been to the Caribbean, but if I were to go there I think I would take Hermes Eau des Merveilles with me, so I am wearing that 🙂
Hope everyone has a great weekend 💞
Have a great weekend too!
That’s a great pick!
Not cp, grabbed DSH Cardamom & Kyphi this morning. I had some cardamom tea a few days ago and kept thinking about the scent. I have a travel size edp spray, but I enjoy it so much I might upgrade to an actual bottle during Dawn’s next holiday sale. The snow has all melted here, it’s 57 degrees and I expect to start seeing the daffodils poking up soon as they have done in Jan/Feb the last few years. So annoying.
I saw snowdrops here in the DC area on Monday literally peaking out of the melting snow.
I have a coworker who went to Cuba to visit relatives over the holidays. She brought me back a body mist. I originally had it on this morning but honestly it was gone in a flash. ( it’s a watery tuberose. Very pretty) I decided to wear Clean Ultimate Beach Day for work.
Thanks for the get well wishes yesterday. I was in bed by 8 and am feeling better today.
I’m glad your feeling better!!!
Thank you!
Yay for feeling better! When I was cleaning today I found a bottle of the No. 68 Chierosa (sp?) Brazilian body spray. Might wear that tomorrow!
I don’t think I tried that one yet. They have so many!
Oh good news!
Glad you are feeling better!
Happy to hear that you are feeling better today!
Glad you’re feeling better!
I’m claiming CP points in a sample of TDC’s Sel de Vetiver and one of Diptyque’s Vetyverio. The SdV is noticably drier, as though the salt has pulled out all the moisture. Of the two it seems closer to a “soliflore” of vetiver. The Diptyque has rose blossom note that is only slightly less dominant than the vetiver.
Today’s tea is Harney & Son’s Holiday, which I like but not nearly as much as F&M’s Christmas Black. I was hoping it would be a less expesive and more readily available dupe, but no such luck.
Isn’t that the way with attempted tea dupes? Most of the time they just don’t work out, alas.
But I did get lucky recently with a Jasmine Green tea!
You are right — tea dupes are never quite right
Gosh, have not smelled that TDC in a very long time.
LOVE Sel de Vetiver. One of my summer go-tos. You smelled lovely today!
The thermometer hit 80 degrees in DC today and there’s an almost tropical sunset, so I’ve gotten out my eau de voyage (travel spray) of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu. 🩵
Wow, 80! That’s amazing for January.
You smell great of course!
Yes, it’s the highest January temperature on record for DC. It felt very odd because it was cloudy most of the day, the sun isn’t bright this time of year anyway, and of course the landscape is so dull without greenery.
And yesterday there was fog over the Potomac all day because the air was in the 60s, but there was still ice on the river. Such an odd couple of days!
Today’s cp brought back very pleasant memories of a long-ago Caribbean cruise: we left from San Juan, Puerto Rico and visited St. Thomas, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, and Caracas, Venezuela. My choice to reminisce is Tommy Bahama Set Sail St. Barts for Women. Its top notes of lime and tequila ‘almost’ make me want a margarita 🍸, but due to much warmer weather bringing unending dismal days of dense fog/rain/drizzle/low-hanging clouds, I’m enjoying a hot chocolate☕️as I write this. Like some of you, I like winter – I’ll take the very cold temps we recently had with 4 days in a row of clear blue sky and bright 🌞 any time over warmer temps and gloom, gloom, gloom.
We got a nice selection of seeds last weekend at the Botanic Garden seed swap and will be augmenting that tomorrow at the Arboretum’s seed swap. Looking forward to a cello/piano 🎶 performance at a nearby library on Sunday, and maybe, just maybe, hoping🤞for a peek of 🌞 promised for that day.
Happy weekend to all!
Yes, the gloom is intense…feels like winter inside anyway since the sun is not warming the house.
Ooo, cello & piano is such a nice combo
That sounds like a really eventful and fun cruise!
I’m in what I believe is Annick Goutal’s Passion. I received 2 freebie bottles of the AG when I made a purchase at one of my favorite perfume shops in Florida. They weren’t sure which scent it was since the tag around the sprayer was missing, hence they were giving them away. The SA mentioned she thought it was Passion.
I looked up the notes on Fragrantica and did notice a slight green aspect, possibly the tomato leaf along with the listed floral notes.
Happy Friday everyone. I made a batch of shortbread today because there were a few triangle chunks of Toblerone left. It’s still cloudy out it’s much warmer thankfully.
I don’t think I’ve ever smelled AG Passion but your mystery (free!) fragrance with green and tomato leaf notes sounds wonderful.
Thank you! It’s lovely to my nose; and was such a nice surprise to get.
Folavril had a tomato leaf note. I’m wondering if that’s your mystery bottle.
From what remember Passion was vanilla to my nose
That makes sense. Passion wouldn’t be the name I’d choose for a green/tomato leaf fragrance.
I’m wondering now about that now. Too bad the sticker on the bottom doesn’t identify it!
There’s definitely plush flowers in the opening, but I did notice the slight green note in there too, although it doesn’t last too long. I just assumed it was a tomato-leaf note but I can’t be sure. It’s definitely a vintage bottle though.
Freebie AG bottles? Nice!
Yes, definitely. They were always nice to me when I was in there. I think I got them because I purchased a 3 other Goutals at the time. It sure was a nice surprise!
Happy Friday!
I’m in Bois des Iles because the name and the fragrance are so lovely. And, of course, the Caribbean (Islands) cp.
I never knew of BdL until I came to NST. I remember thinking how mysterious and fancy it sounded, and didn’t know how to pronounce it. I am much more confident saying Box of eels! Lol.
And I should have used it’s rightful name – Box of eels!😀
I know Bermuda isn’t really in the Caribbean, but my SOTD for the community project is Lili Bermuda’s Coral.
Works for me. Points!
Thanks!
Close enough!
lol, thanks Robin!
Does thinking about a SOTD count? 😉 I considered Terracotta or one of my tuberose-heavy perfumes for today, but ended up commando after all. So it goes.
Points for you Jalapeno!
It counts 🤣
Hey, of course it counts.
The Caribbean is a vacation destination and you are taking a vacation from perfume rn. boom — points!
Belated Happy Birthday wishes to you! I hope that the beginning of a new year for you at the beginning of a new life for you signals the beginning of the best that’s yet to come for you! And I hope that now that this accomplishment has been reached perhaps you will soon find a new and special perfume to celebrate 🥳 your new self. You deserve it! 🤗
I want to give you all the points Jalapeño
Super late today. It’s already Saturday afternoon here.
I’m wearing Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise. Not only does it have a tropical destination sounding name but the Caribbean has native orchids, honeysuckle, a thing called a plum and is often associated with the not native hibiscus.
So, late but killing the CP today.
Hope everyone is doing fine.
Haha I already live in the Caribbean in a way…. Southernmost Florida!! Getting up I already sprayed Jubilation 25 Woman but I have a fragrance that perfectly fits in the description and can wear it for example tomorrow (after like 2 showers because J25W stays on forever and beyond like really forever) . So what is it that I have? Crazy Rem Miami by Reminiscence although I love further down south. Nonetheless Miami is the biggest city close to us – 140 miles up north. But Crazy Rem has all these tropical, coconut, rum, vanilla notes. Also I used to have a bottle of Jammin’ way back when. I had that bottle in like 2006-2007 maybe and already then it was discontinued and super hard to find and expensive because even then it was too rare to come across. If I had that bottle of Reminiscence Jammin’ I would be a millionaire now haha. I also have a bottle of Nishane Tuberoza that smells very tropical. Oh I may have a travel spray of Maison Crivelly Hibiscus, I know I have the other new travel spray away as an extra in a swap. We have a lot of coconut palms, hibiscus and frangipani trees down here where I live. We also have a lot of pine trees for some reason even though it’s subtropics here. One of our small towns here has pine in it’s name even.
