It’s Wednesday and National Peanut Butter Day. Birthdays: Edith Wharton, Neil Diamond, Aaron Neville, John Belushi. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, a fragrance that reminds me of a (real) trip to the Caribbean.
Reminder: on 1/26, we're off to The Caribbean! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in The Caribbean, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to The Caribbean, or that features a local ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Love the image – the sky goes so well with the texture of the walls.
House of Lalique keeps giving me CP points. Today it is Lalique Le Parfum, which has West Indian bay, pink pepper and vanilla.
And it is how I remember the sky in Aruba — EXTRA blue 🙂
I’m wearing a Love by Killian sample, but I have no idea which one. It went on as a reddish liquid, and is very sweet. Not something I like.
He does a lot of too sweet for me…
Hello.
Sotd is LV Les Sable Roses.
My bug, which I think is the flu, is now giving me a runny nose, cough and sore throat. I would hate it if phlegm (sorry for being graphic) joins the party in the coming days. At least I am “fully functional”..?
Made a pot of salmon, veggie and tofu miso soup. Nice and yummy and comforting.
A friend of mine just had flu. This is someone who never gets sick, and he was down for over a week. But he hadn’t gotten the vaccine this year.
Your salmon pot sounds like the perfect medicine! 👍
Ugh, sorry to hear that you might be down with the flu.
Royal Parvati Sandalwood by Ava Lux…. Simply gorgeous
Thunk
Hey, I’m trying to get rid of samples, too, not buy more, lol! This is calling my name. 🙉
Hahaha!!! Same!! Trying to enjoy what I have! But honestly the three that I’ve tried from Ava Luxe have really made me want to try soooooo many more!!!
You’re shameless, I tell you, shameless!
I know 🤪😂😁
Today I’m in eighties-ish Grès Cabochard, which proves that there are many kinds of beauty. Everything about it is slightly off-kilter: it’s kind of astringent, with lots of dank oakmoss and strange abstract flowers, but it is SO beautiful.
i have a 90ies vintage of this scent. I would love to smell it more often on other people.
I’m a fan. You described it perfectly.
That’s a real gem.
In Arielle Shoshana Saturday. It is summer in a bottle and a perfume I would bring with me to a trip to The Caribbean.
Happy Wednesday! 🍹
Ooh, I think that will be my Friday scent. Good idea.
Great!
I wore that as my Dolly scent last week. Very flexible perfume! And yes, sunshine in a bottle. 🙂
Fun and happy scent for sure!
The colors on the bottle are absolutely perfect for AS Saturday.
My bottle is the old one, when the perfume was just named Arielle Shoshana. The new design and colors of Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are beautiful! I wonder if AS will release more perfumes in the future.
Would be rather nice to have an entire week from Arielle Shoshana, wouldn’t it?
It’s alllll the way up into the upper 40sF today! I’m trying Chanel Gardenia edp, from the sample they sent when I ordered my mom’s signature No. 5 body cream. I nabbed the sample because I knew Mom would hate it — she can’t stand white florals — and now I’m wondering whether it would be better in truly warm weather, because I am Not Impressed.
Sometimes shampoo-ish is ok, but found that one too shampoo-ish and meh as well.
I feel like Chanel Gardenia has always sounded like a better idea than it was in practice.
I have the vintage Gardenia (have to look for it). It smells great but somehow there must be at least one substance to which I am allergic because a rash appeared in the exact spot of where I applied.
I should specify that it was Chanel Gardenia EDT.
Yikes! A rash is never good.
As a gardenia, it has never been impressive.
Wearing Millesime Tonka today – I’m in a warm and breezy open-air kitchen by the ocean and the cooks are baking desserts for later. I stumbled into the CP today, because I saw MT and spritzed. Then, I started reading about the ingredients and notes and realized I fit. I am way behind on comments. I’ve been on a trip to a family wedding in California. I never had time for any perfume hunting – there were non-stop family fun activities and many people to see and talked with – none of whom are perfumistas. Sigh – there I was, just a few blocks away from Union Square in SF and later Mandy Aftel’s museum in Berkeley, but no right time for “optional excursions.” I am foggy-brained today, but shout-out to NST’ers in California: I love your state!
You smell lovely, my bottle is located in Provence. Hope you have plenty of wonderful family memories after your trip in spite of missing on perfume time. There might be a next time.
It was a wonderful family time – too short!
So glad you had a great time!
Thanks, lillyjo!
Are you still in Cali?
I am back home – and my comment was poorly written, in that I meant to say Millesime Tonka makes me feel like I am sitting an open air kitchen, etc. I am blaming jet lag 🙂
Jet lag is rather good at scrambling neurons! 😵💫🥴
So glad it was fun!!
Airline travel is challenging for me, but the happiness of this occasion helped me find the best in it. (I am more of a road tripper.) I watched Astroid City on the way back, and it had some very funny and cute things in it.
I like road trips too! (And looking forward to seeing Asteroid City.)
We loved that you visited!
🙂 I hope to go back – I saw some very impressive redwoods at the UCB Botanical Gardens, but I’ve yet to see any of the really big trees.
I thunked a sample of Aedes Oeillet Bengale this morning. I get a lot of lily with the spices in the opening. Yet it is a also much fresher smelling than either of the two notes would normally imply. Very well blended. A shame this didn’t make it to the roster for their re-releases.
Tea today is a Keemun, courtesy of allo, to fortify me through lots of work calls.
The cat distribution system is hard at work. We’ve had a friendly-ish orange polydactyly hanging around our house the past few weeks. We’re feeding him (?) and trying to build up enough trust to get him to the vet to be scanned for a chip and fixed if need be. It will probably have to be a TNR situation because Mr. Vee doesn’t want to dsiturb our current three siblings with a fourth. Meanwhile, our counsin had a litter born in his yard about two months ago. All but one kitten and the apparent papa found homes prior to the recent snow. Our cousin let them in to keep warm while it snowed and from the pictures of snuggling now happening I don’t think they are going back out.
You smell wonderful today. I’ve been hoarding my sample of that one.
Aww. I’m glad you and your cousin are both taking care of the outdoor kitties, especially during this cold time of the year. Be advised, orange male cats are the absolute best! Most friendly, outgoing, and happy.
We love our orange boy kitty. He turned Mr. Skal, the big skeptic, into a house-cat person.
yes yes yes to the ginger/orange tabbies that are usually male for some reason I don’t understand. We have a female ginger who is the same. We are told she’s quite rare or that she’s not actually a ginger, she’s a light colored tabby, but she’s orange to me.
You smell lovely and I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Keemun!
Sounds like the Cat Distribution System is working OT in your area…
In Diptyque Tam Dao today.
Happy Wednesday!
Happy Wednesday!
Happy Wednesday to you too!
Copying Robin in Terracotta. Speaking of Guerlain, has anyone sampled l’Instant Magic? Read a description somewhere that mentioned an almond croissant note, which has me intrigued.
It smells really good, but I don’t know that I would describe it as almond croissant.
I agree, it’s an elegant gourmand, not smelling like actual food.
Hey twin!
I tried FZOTIC / Bruno Fazzolari’s Vetiverissimo yesterday and want more. I’ll delve further into it after a dental appointment this afternoon.
Good luck at the dentist! It seems that lots of us are going lately; must be that time of year.
I sampled Vetiverissimo recently, and it was love at first sniff. My bottle arrived today! 👏🏻
Congratulations, AnnE!
It turns out I’m going to need a root canal! 😫 However, my dentist thinks they’ll be able to keep the existing crown, which will save money. Based on perfume math principles, I think that means I must buy the FB. 😎
Oh, but of course! I’m so sorry about the root canal. 😣
I’m still in my flannel from yesterday with an amalgamation of sample thunks and will hold off for now since I have to be in a classroom from 11-2 and don’t want to gas out the group!
Happy Hump Day all!
Hope the class was painless.
Did you put perfume on AFTER your class?
multiple sprays of Fidji EDT helped me to cope with my day.
First day at work, still feeling a bit off. Plus i have to have a hopefully minor surgery done in 5weeks. I am glad when the week is over.
You’re almost over the hump!
Hang in there!
Going to a hockey game later on today and will be wearing Narcotic V. It’s a tuberose bomb but I don’t care.
You’ll smell absolutely fabulous!
Good morning. I’m wearing LL Jasmin 17 and I can still smell a few whiffs of last night’s SDV spray on my chest. I love how good it smells if I wake up during the night.
I think I’ll make the NYT Peanut Butter Miso cookies today in honor of National Peanut Butter Day. Peanut butter has always been a favorite around here.
Still participating in the Five Parks Yoga New Year’s Challenge with online yoga classes every day and wow, there have been some challenging ones. Today’s was difficult, and I barely kept going as I was already sore. But I am committed to finishing. Overall, it’s been a really great start for my days (especially since these are very gray days in Seattle).
You smell great and you are my exercising inspiration!
So glad you are sticking with it!
Azemour for me today. I’m not sure it’s totally CP-compliant but there are have orange trees in the Caribbean, right? At any rate it reminds me of somewhere warmer and it called my name this morning.
I’m in the midst of booking a vacation to somewhere warmer, too, which is keeping my spirits up in the middle of a busy, rainy week. The destination is more desert and less beach, though.
It does smell like vacation!
Today’s photo reminds me of the Mayan ruins at Tulum, which gives me an idea for Friday. Meanwhile, I’ll be commando until this evening, partly because I have a pilates session this afternoon and partly because we’re moving back into our house today (tv and internet back in operation there, yay!) and I want to wear something different — two weeks away from my perfume shelf has taken its toll.
Congrats on going back to your wired house! Two weeks, away, ugh. How many fumes have been keeping you company?
Two, Omnia Ambra and Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin. And we brought Cuir Pleine Fleur and Italian Leather for Mr. G, but I occasionally wear those too. I have been craving a couple of Hermessences lately (Agar Èbene and Ambre Narguilé) and will pounce on one of those this evening. 😆
Ah, I can see why you’re itching to get back to your collection! As good as those are. 😉
Yay!!
Indeed!
Yay for wired houses!
Yes, and for the majority of the house damage confined to the garage. The gushing pipe was right over our storage shelves out there, though, so the rest of the house is full of the stored items we were able to salvage and won’t be able to put back in the garage for weeks, and that clutter is going to drive me insane. BUT a drywall guy is coming tomorrow to assess a couple of walls near the gusher — one wall for sure has to be ripped out and redone (and part of the ceiling, of course), but I’m hoping the wall between the garage and the laundry room will be deemed okay as is. We shall see!
I hope you won’t have a mold problem. I had a garage flooding awhile back, the source of which proved hard to pinpoint, and by the time it was resolved I had a lot of things that were damaged by mold. It’s pretty yucky.
There’s no place like home, yay for more perfume choice.
Woo-hoo!
Whoo hoo for getting back into your house! So glad to hear this.
CM8’s reference to sandalwood reminded me that I haven’t worn Samsara for ages, so that’s my choice for today.
Hello note twin!! What I am wearing reminds me a bit of Samsara! The initial blast is absolute sandalwood bliss!!
My sense of smell and taste are still not 100% from some virus funk I got last week so I am using up a sample of JPG La Belle to fire up my receptors!!! 🤧 😍
Is it working? 🙂
La Belle was nuclear on me. I hope it worked!
I’m wearing a combination of Geisha Noire and Oil Perfumery’s version of Coromandel. I don’t think I’m CP compliant but I smell good.
It’s really all that matters 😊
Back in Cuir de Gardenia today, my hug-in-perfume-form. I’ve had a mild migraine for about nine days now and can’t tolerate anything strong, but need a little something!
Oh god, those low-grade migraines that hang on forever are so miserable. I used to suffer from those, but menopause seems to have cured them. If only some natural transition would eliminate hot flashes! 🤣
Right? I just think of it as ‘migraine mode,’ as in, oh, I’ve been in migraine mode for going on two weeks. Coffee helps but I have to knock it off by noon. And kissing helps (doctors never mention this) but one also has to hold down a job. Hope your hot flashes resolve soon!
Going to lunch with some old workmates today, wearing Daim Blond.
You smell wonderful!
Enjoy your lunch with your friends, you smell great.
Swoon😍
You smell wonderful!
Hope you had a great time at lunch today!
Hope you had a nice visit with your friends.
Today I’m in Kilian Amber Oud for the bay leaf note and because it smells amazing. Yesterday I wore my beloved comfort scent, Lèa by Calypso St. Barth, which worked for the CP since it was a Caribbean brand. I needed comfort because I fell coming home from my walk Monday night and cut my hand open on the lower part of the palm. I was rounding the corner into our apartment building (and we live on a steep hill), and I slipped on the stupid sidewalk, which is the kind that has rocks pebbled into it. Gave my partner a terrible shock when I walked in with a bleeding hand. Luckily, the cut wasn’t super deep and it’s doing much better today. Another stupid result of taking a spill is my sore arm just above the elbow where I just have torn some muscle. That was delayed pain and I’ve really been feeling it last night and today. However, I am thankful my injuries weren’t any worse!
I remember you mentioning slipping on those sidewalks before (and I have done the same thing). Scary! Are you wearing shoes with leather soles? Because those are the worst. I hope everything heals quickly. Hugs!
Yes, I slipped on this type of sidewalk a year or two ago but luckily didn’t have injuries from that one. No leather shoes but definitely the soles of my walking shoes are quite worn down in spots. Thanks for the hugs!
I hope you heal and feel better soon!
Thank you!
Get well soon, glad you have no broken bones.
Thanks, Aurora.
Oh, I can definitely sympathize with injuries from a bad fall! I’m so sorry. Hope your sore arm improves soon. We have those sidewalks out at my university and they are extremely slippery in wet weather. I have fallen on them and seen some other people fall, as well.
I truly don’t understand why these types of sidewalks are in Seattle, a city known for its wet weather, much less the sidewalk of a steep hill. It boggles the mind. Also, on the busiest street in my neighborhood, there are parts of the sidewalk with mosaic tile and an artsy spot with metal footprints showing the steps to a dance. Both of which were very slippery when it’s wet out. Such odd (unsafe) choices for this city.
I was just about to ask about this. We have a street here paved with brick. It gets extremely slippery. I hope you heal quickly and your pain eases soon.
Thanks, lillyjo! A pox on slippery sidewalks of all kinds!
Ouch! I hope you heal fast and well! Did you need stitches?
Thanks, and no it wasn’t nearly bad enough for stitches, thank goodness! The worst part, and what caused the most bleeding, is a chunk of my skin is missing in the middle part of the gash. And of course the pain was also the worst part. But it’s kind of amazing how fast the body can repair itself.
I hope it heals quickly! Winter is downright treacherous for walking. I took a fall on some black ice right on my own driveway, and it was a doozy. No lasting injuries, I was lucky. Can’t help thinking that a video would have been hilarious. 🤣
Ugh, sorry you recently took a spill too!
Sending more hugs!
Thanks for more hugs!
Ow, ow, ow, ow! That sounds deeply unpleasant all around. Hugs!
It really was so unpleasant and frustrating! Sending a hug back to ya!
After some leg surgery this past year, the wound center recommended Medihoney Gel…it was terrific at healing a wound that was very stubborn about closing up! I now keep it in my medicine cabinet–excellent stuff.
Ooh, good tip! I’m glad you found something to help your wound.
Sorry about your fall – utility access covers can get slick, too.
Yes, those are another slippery culprit!
Going tropical today in PMC Ylang Ylang Nosy Be, to bring some cheer to another cold and gloomy day. Gloomy, as in having to have the lights on all day.
I know Madagascar is a long way from the Caribbean, but maybe I can get half a point for the island bit?
Sure, I’ll grant you the points! I love that one and this makes me want to get it out to wear tomorrow!
Thanks!
I think ylang ylang should be worth full points, IMO.
Then I’ll take them. 😊
Vintage EL fans: just got an email from T Magazine (NYT offshoot)
mentioning that EL’s releasing an updated set of scents, including Knowing, White Linen, Azuree, Estee and Private Collection on 2/1.
They are calling it the Legacy Collection, retooled with the help of Frederic Malle and the perfumers Anne Flipo, Carlos Benaim and Bruno Jovanovic. It sounds like the whole collection needs to be purchased ($280) or maybe they’ll be available individually.
Interesting, thank you, Aliage also maybe.
I hope there’s a coffret bit who am I kidding? Low buy / No buy rules (applies only to perfume)!
A coffret would be perfect – I’m looking forward to trying this!
Splitmeet anyone???
I’d be curious about Azuree. Very glad I have the old style bottle in my stash!
I’m wearing Kilian Woman in Gold today. Is it only Wednesday? This week is passing very slowly for me.
Passing slowly here too.
We have mild temperatures (65) but incessant rain and some area flooding. It’s gray and dreary again. My SOTD is one of my Saudi perfumes, Reef Obaya, which leans heavily masculine and comes off like a men’s cologne, but not quite. The notes are listed as pineapple, leather, and oud. I’m taking CP credit for the pineapple, which is a very pleasant and interesting variation on the more typical citrus top note of a traditional cologne.
I’m spending my days doing some new cat paintings in what my friends call the “blobby” style, which means, painting loosely wet on wet with a big brush, to create swaths of color that spread out in what I hope are pleasant ways roughly conforming to the shapes of a cat’s body. It’s fun to experiment with.
That sounds like a great way to spend your days, Calypso. I wish I could paint.
No smoothie tonight
After yesterday’s Champs Élysées I decided to wear another seldom mentioned perfume, Idylle EDP, I still have a soft spot for this musky floral, and IIRC I have also the EDT and two flankers whose names I forget. Tonight I am in Weil Suki Essence, all plums, dates, cinnamon and incense, Fragrantica says oud too but Suki box says not, if any, then it’s only a whisper. It used to be so affordable too but with prices of perfumes lately perhaps not the £12 I paid three or four years ago.
If anyone can find a perfume for 12 dollars, it’s you!
😃 thank you Lillyjo, if you see this one at a good price do consider adding it to your collection, also another plus the bottle is yellow, very cheerful and not cheap-looking.
Why no smoothie? Did you have a delicious soup instead?
I’m out of yogurt, no soup but I had a nice, ripe avocado.
I’ve heard of people using avocados to make smoothies instead of yogurt. Not sure if I would be down for that. 🤔
You smell wonderful!
Thank you😃
SOTD = Tauer Les Annees 25
Why don’t I wear this more often?

I opened my Estée Lauder package! The Advanced Night Repair serum is beautifully decorated with a dragon. My only disappointment was the red pouch was missing. The CSR promised I will get it in ~ 4 days. Keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C2fuU-3xFD2/?igsh=djJlaTg1cHE2YXFm
For deva – the bottom of the dragon candle has a lip and the bottom of the bottle (not the lip) is flat.
Nice! The box is beautiful too!
I thought so as well!
Your SOTD is now very much a Perfume Unicorn, IIRC. 🦄
You’re right … although sometimes discontinuation is over-rated.
Thank you! I have plans for that candle container and I need to find what is the best way to adhere it so it doesn’t move when I’m mobile. That night repair bottle is stunning! 😍
It’s a beautiful bottle for sure. I think the bottom of the candle gives you more options. The top has a rubber ring to keep it secure.
Another wow from me about how elegant the EL NRS bottle looks.
It is! Thanks.
I started my day in I Love Les Carottes and some DSH L’Or(ris) and I’ve moved on to Sycomore for the Vetiver cpish tie in.
Nice assortment!
2nd that!
Totally not with the Caribbean this week.
Have on a cashmere sweater and copious sprays of Silky Woods.
Went ALL the way to Orange County yesterday to drop off clothing and shoe donations and then to the mecca known as South Coast Plaza to recycle two bags of Eileen Fisher clothing.
I walked past Celine, Dior, LV and of course Nordstrom and didn’t test or buy anything.
So there.
Had a recruiter I know contact me Monday evening out of the blue to see if I was available and I have interview with client this afternoon!
Also heard about the Executive Fellowship, passed the first round and onto the second tomorrow afternoon.
Wow, congrats on the positive job news! Good luck to you!
Great news on the job front!
Awesome news!
Excellent news!
Excellent news!
Congratulations on the good news!
Yay!!! On all counts! 🙌
Yay!
Thank you!!
I will buy a bottle of something when I have a job.
Thank you!!
I will buy a bottle of something when I have a job.
Wonderful.
I wore and thunked my sample of Mandarin Basilic today. It’s so short lived, I just kept reapplying.
Nice while it lasted!
It’s nice, but has the staying power of a Demeter
Today is my “Day of Life Gift”. So I have survived another trip around the sun. My brother dropped off a humungous slice of tiramisu cake this afternoon for me. He said something along the lines of “I remember you used to like this a lot way back when.”
Best B-day cake I have had in ages.
SOTD = Boyfriend Body Creme, in the usual spots.
Many happy returns of the day–tiramisu sounds fantastic!
Thanks galbanumgal!
Happy Birthday 🥳
What your Brother said about the cake was so sweet and reminded me of my brother a bit.
I bet it tastes awesome.
The cake IS awesome. And I have half of it left, since I wasn’t kidding about a humungo portion!
So maybe it counts for 2 birthdays?
Happy Birthday! 🎊🎂🎁 Nice of your brother to bring cake for you.
Thank you AnnE! Birthdays were always something celebrated in my family.
Happy, happy, happy birthday! 🎂🎁🍷🌹
Thanks perfumelover67!
Happy Birthday! 🎂 What a gem your brother is. I hope you had a good day and are getting all settled in and comfortable in your new home.
Thank you Deva! I gave my brother a big hug after that.
Fewer boxes here, but still lots of things to go thru. But I did find my small glass teapot earlier today. Now I can brew some of my loose teas, too!
Happy Birthday, Jalapeno! Tiramisu cake sounds fantastic! How nice of your brother to remember.
Thanks Gail! And it was GOOD tiramisu cake. Tasted like the stuff you can get at old school Italian restaurants.
Happy birthday!
What a nice brother!
Thank you Glannys! I wasn’t expecting it at all. But that’s the kind of person he is.
Happy Birthday – I too love tiramisu and maybe you can have the rest for breakfast tomorrow!
Thanks MossyBerry! Breakfast or lunch, either option sounds pretty darn good to me. 😉
Another tiramisu fan here. What a nice brother you have! Happy Birthday to you!
Best of birthdays to you, and many more!
Thank you jepster!
A very happy birthday to you Jalapeno!
Thanks Robin!
Still figuring out where things are out here. Lots of wide open spaces even along the Front Range, compared to South Jersey.
Happy bday!!
Thank you apsara!
Your first birthday in your new place, many happy returns, how nice of your brother, enjoy your tiramisu.
Thanks Aurora!
A couple of my cousins also texted birthday greetings today, which was a lovely surprise.
Happy bday – funny,, I just posted a note to you but didn’t notice that you had posted this right above!
Yay for your brother stopping by with a nice memory and some delicious cake!
Amusing coincidence for sure!
We will be getting together this weekend for pizza, too.
We’ll be visiting in Colorado last week in Feb. and would love to meet up if you are interested. Not sure where you are. You can find my email via my screen name.
I’m about 10 – 15 minutes away from Longmont. A meetup sounds great!
Awesome. Just contact me and we can figure something out. 😄
Happy Birthday Jalapeno! 💐☀️The best is yet to come!🌈🥂
Thank you allo!
Happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks CM8!
Happy Birthday, jalapeño! May your new abode bring welcome change!
Thank you!
Still working on many, many boxes. Eventually I will be donating stuff.
I hope it was a wonderful birthday yesterday, Jalapeno!
Thanks, TRF! It was a quiet day.
Jalapeño, if you are reading, the answer to your question yesterday is that the AG Myrrhe Ardente body cream IS moisturizing and feels very nice. I would say it’s on the lighter side, not super heavy/rich and def not oily.
Thanks for the info!
😊
