Happy Almost-Friday! It’s also the third day of Kwanzaa (Ujima: collective work and responsibility) and the fourth day of Christmas (4 calling birds). Birthdays: Earl Hines, Pops Staples, Maggie Smith. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've overslept again, but I'm in my myrrh of the day: Diptyque Volutes.
Reminder: on 12/29, wear a fragrance with myrrh, if you have one. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is LV Matiere Noire. Aquatic fruity, rose oud.
I am wearing my new blush from Hourglass in the shade Dim Infusion. A subdued coral. Very pretty and adds a nice glow to my cheeks. I love blush so much. If I were only allowed to bring one makeup item on a trip, it would definitely be blush.
Recently purchased one of their face palettes and I absolutely love it! It’s the first palette they’ve come out with where every single shade works for me. I love a good coral blush, especially in spring and summer paired with a coral lip. 💋
You smell great! I love Hourglass powders.
Today I’m in Boucheron Pour Homme edp, which fairly leapt into my hands when I opened the storage cabinet. One of the best men’s chypres ever.
Funny how they call out to be worn!
Collecting points in Etro Messe di Minuet today, perfect for chilly rain.
Sorry, you have our weather from yesterday.
Love the colorful header, Robin! And 👍🏼 for oversleeping. You obviously needed some rest and I hope it was the restorative kind.
Chilly this morning but the sun is up in all her glory. We are in a new spot next to some ancient petroglyphs. There are (according to those learned archeologists) styles from two different timeframes- one about 7500 BC to 1 AD and the other 300 BC TO 450 AD. Even my ignorant eye can spot the differences (after reading about it first 😉). And lo and behold, the PNW has followed me south because it seems Pomp was also here. Pomp, also known as Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau, was the son of Sacagawea and one of Lewis and Clark’s Corp of Discovery crew by the name of Touissant Charbonneau! The kiddo was knick-named “Pomp” by Clark, who eventually became his guardian. Lewis assisted with the birth of Pomp and made a rattlesnake concoction for Sacagawea immediately post partum to ease her pain. “Pompey’s Pillar” is a national monument (that I visited) in Montana. It’s a large granite monolith which Clark, on his return trip, engraved in honor of Pomp’s birth.
I first started walking around these rocks on the east side and didn’t see much. But lo and behold, the west side is absolutely covered! It’s like an ancient version of the Sunday newspaper. 🗞️
I’m in Profumum Ambra Aurea because it has myrrh and it smells ancient to me. It must be the incense notes. My travel size had a very tiny bit of scent crystallized around the itty bitty spray hole. It looked almost like honey when it crystallizes.
For those Interested in the petroglyphs:

Cheers!
I saw those pictures on your Insta and was amazed! Thanks for sharing more of the background information. What an amazing site!
It is amazing and I wish they’d do more to preserve and protect it.
Very restorative, thank you, and thank you for the very cool video!
Yay for good sleep. Glad you liked the little video. It’s just amazing to me, and I wish I could meet every last person who left their mark…
I looked for my bottle of Ambra Aurea last night and couldn’t find it, it must be in Montréal. You smell great!
Thanks, it’s a good one for sure!
Starting my 2024 thunking project early… Iris Fauve, thunk
Yay for getting a head start!
Yay!! Smelling great.
No myrrh for me right now – my primary scent right now is Mitsouko. I really should reach for this more.
Killed off a lemming (I think) – Deja le Printemps by Oriza L. Legrand. I’m working from a sample, and was a little bit obsessed, but a more generous application yields a bitter note. Nothing wrong with that, just not what I thought it was.
Project time: I’ve gotten into January home organization early. Hit Target yesterday, picked up a couple things (necessary replacements). Some books are boxed for Goodwill, but there will be more. Basement: general sorting and organizing. Trying my best to utilize storage containers we already have on hand. And finally: have to remind myself to slow down! It’s not a race.
I have several reorganization projects for January, you are putting me to shame already!
Sweet Redemption by Kilian for myrrh points.
Myrrh seems to go with orange blossom, I noticed it is in Profumum Vanitas as well.
You know, I think this is the only orange blossom/myrrh combo I tried, and I cannot say I can actually smell myrrh in it – there is something vaguely balsamic, but orange blossom sweetened by vanilla dominates so much that I think of SR as an orange blossom fragrance only.
But generally white florals and resins work very well together!
Grey skies today, but a brief snowfall this morning of my favorite big flakes put me in the no-gloom zone. No CP zone too, but I’m getting further cheer from lemon and vetiver in current version Diorella. I don’t have any perfumes with “myrrh” in the name, but Fragrantica helped me see lots of choices for tomorrow! I can’t pick out myrrh, but I generally like spicey, resinous scents so I’m enjoying deciding which one to wear for the win.
I also did that search on Fragrantica and found more than I thought I would have. For example Parfum Sacre which I had just worn on Christmas has myrrh too. I might wear it again but have a couple other options, so we’ll see. I’m still commando right now.
The fragrantica list is helpful. Pacifica Persian Rose and Pacifica Kindred Spirit also have myrrh in them
I had some birthday money this year so I bought myself Roxana illuminated Perfume’s Greenwitch and it arrived yesterday. First of all the packaging is gorgeous, a deep-purple glass pot that feels heavy and luxe in the hands, and the scent itself is so special. It’s a “sea chypre” that brings to mind a driftwood spotted beach that backs up to a cool green forest, and on that salt breeze you can smell puffs of jasmine. It’s evocative the way something like de Bachmakov or Apres L’Ondee is evocative.
A sample of Gracing the Dawn was included and I’m intrigued by it as well, it’s a floral chypre but seems to be slightly creamy-spicy as well? I’ll have to explore it more when I get home tonight.
Oo, the Greenwitch sounds really intriguing!
Hello all!
I’m in Oriental Velours today, from a recent purchase of the Les Indemodables discovery set. This was one I liked initially and it has myrrh. I don’t mean to be a downer but I haven’t been impressed on the whole. Does anyone have a favorite from this line?
I’m baking a pie today since I didn’t get any this Christmas. It has the added benefit of keeping me warm as well.
Have a great day everyone!
Mmm pie! As for Les Indémodables, the two best ones for me were Vanille Havane and Ambre Supreme.
I’ve liked both of those so far but they’re close to perfumes I already own.
I love Musc des Sables. I also have purse sprays of Vanilla Havane, Cuir de Chine and Iris Perle, all of which I enjoy but probably won’t ever need an FB.
Musc de Sables is my top pick right now, and your list lines up with mine. I was really enamored with Iris Perle but it smells like an unscented candle after two hours on me which makes me think I’m anosmic to one of the musks.
Like Coumarin, I am baking today, cookies I think, unless I get ambitious and make palmiers. I think all my incense fragrances have myrrh, so today I’m wearing Kyoto. It’s a little bit warmer than it has been the past few days, and not raining right this minute so I will hurry out for a walk.
Not sure if it’ll sway you but palmiers are a particular favorite of mine. You smell fabulous whatever you bake!
Inspired by you and coumarin, I just might take up the apron and spatula later today! 🍪
Let us know how it goes! 😇
It went great because I didn’t bake bread! Lol 😂 Just made some oatmeal cookies and those are hard to mess up!
Woke up late too and am joining Robin in Volutes.
It’s been so nice to have the week off and be able to putter around the house. Mr. allo loves “detailing” – his word for focused cleaning so we chose the pantry. It’s so satisfying to purge and clean.
We’re triplets with Robin!
And we sure smell good!
A very belated hey twin!
I am in MFK L’eau À la Rose, a lovely rose scent. Almost thunk! I will miss it.
FBW? Or are you almost done with a bottle?
I had a 10ml bottle and now I’m thinking of getting a 30ml one…
Sounds like you’ll need at least 30ml!
I have plenty of bottles and decants with a myrrh note or ingredient, but today I went with a sample that I wanted to retry. It’s Mimosa Myrrh by Marissa Zappas. When I first tried a dab, all I could really smell was the myrrh. Today with a more generous application it’s still mainly myrrh but there’s also a tinge of aquatic floral. It’s very nice, but I doubt I’ll spring for more after the sample is gone. But if I find a good deal on a bottle, I reserve the right to change my mind. 😉
Hey, nobody here is going to challenge you if you buy it!
I am tripling with Robin and allo – great company!
SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDT
❤️❤️❤️ and has myrrh to boot!

Useless fact of the day, from the Wall Street Journal:
Did you know that in certain holding facilities for either those awaiting trial or those awaiting sentencing, tinned Mackerel Fillet (by Chicken of the Sea 🤣) is worth keeping for currency? Apparently, SBF traded 4 of the tins to get a trim of his head hair.
Why tinned mackerel and not tuna? Or salmon, for that matter? Do they not have access to tinned tuna? I assume the value is in having access to additional protein.
And do prisoners not have access to periodic haircuts?
I don’t expect you to have v the answers 😂 My mind just immediately goes to “next questions”
A belated hey triplet!
And I will try to remember that fact and also hope I never need to know 🙂
I’m diametrically opposite myrhh in Monyette today — it’s a mild, drizzly, darkish day and I was in the mood for sweet creamy flowers. First day back at work after several peaceful days off, but after tomorrow I’ve got another five days off to enjoy, so work feels like a refreshing little ‘break’ from lounging.
p.s. But my frankincense-and-myrhh Zum soap is at least making my hands CP compliant all week!
p.p.s I have now misspelled “myrrh” twice in one post and am thus unable to pass it off as a typo.
Lol and I didn’t even notice!
Me either! 😀
I always forget how to spell myrrh ugh lol.
CdG Copper sample – has myrrh for the cp, and a fun development for the nose. I don’t think I need a bottle, but I’ll use up my sample. I was surprised to see the myrrh listed in the notes as I wouldn’t have expected it in this fragrance.
I often don’t notice myrrh when it’s a bit player.
Sample of the day is On the Road from Timothy Han. It’s interesting tarry rubbery gradually softening but not anything I’ll buy. Glad to be headed home today–I miss my cat and I think my MIL has pushed enough fudge (and baked goods) on me that I should be good for a year. Am very glad to be getting out of small town rural Texas
Perfect scent for the trip home!
I didn’t see Volutes on fragrantica under myrrh or I might have picked that. I do have a lot of choices though, so I’m going for Baume du Doge.
Neither did I! When I saw Robin wearing it, I said she has to be right and indeed she is!
Oh, but if I had Baume du Doge I’d be wearing that for sure!
We got up early and went out for breakfast, there was nobody around. This is a working day, but most businesses are closed between Christmas and New Year.
I’m wearing Après L’Ondée at the moment, because I spotted the bottle this morning, but I’m thinking of Myrrhe et Délires for later.
So jealous! I really wanted a bottle of that Guerlain before it got discontinued. It was a sad say when that one got the boot:(. It’s so fantastic.
A sad day*
Hello everyone, hope all of you are doing well. A generous application of Le Labo Lab 18 today 😃
Did you ever find your glass bottle purveyor?
The storm from yesterday has considerably calmed down and it remains mild. Didn’t wear anything this morning as I was going for a blood test but this afternoon on impulse I sprayed Baiser Volé essence de parfum which is a vanilla bomb but very enjoyable and tonight for the CP I am in I Profumi Di Firenze Tulipano Nero, I liked that one immediately, I have the concentrato which comes as a 10ml size little dabber, I would rather have a spray but it’s very potent nonetheless.
I like that dabbers exist for the fancier extraits. Otherwise I prefer sprays.
I agree with you, applying extrait is like a ritual, it helps if the cap is designed to use it to dab like in No 5.
Trying Bianco Latte by Giardini Di Toscana today. A very nice gourmand vanilla which reminds me in the opening a bit of Annunziata Vaniglia del Madagascar. Will see how it develops…I am trying to be judicious about FBs and specifically vanilla-forward FBs.
I have been pondering the question lately…”How much perfume does one need?” and I do not like the answer. Ehaeheh 😅 I think 2024 will be a great gutting of my collection. My goal in 2023 was to not buy as many blind FBs and I did improve in that area…will have to calculate my 2023 vs. 2024 blind buy rates when I update my spreadsheet after the year ends and report back. 🧐
Wanted to add I sampled Tonka Sarrapia yesterday and quite liked it but don’t think it was extraordinary given it is an extrait from Guerlain or warrants the price. So far I have tried the Bergamote, Rose and Tonka and Tonka was definitely the best.
Tried Tonka Sarrapia recently too, and the far drydown bore a strong resemblance to Shalimar, which I like–but surely don’t need an uber-expensive version 😉.
I obviously don’t need anymore perfume. However.. they might need me. Lol. Most of my loves are the older perfumes that have lost popularity. Where else are they supposed to go? 🤣
I totally understand this feeling – it is not always the best guide, similar to the feeling one gets when visiting an animal shelter. “Hi, I’ll take all those kittens, please.” 🙂
Keep going with that line of thought, I think it turns perfume buying into charitable giving 😂
This is how you know you have your perfume priorities straight!

I took a muscle relaxer for my back today. So far all its done is made me sleepy. I’m supposed to take it 3 times a day. I don’t know how I am going to get anything done.
I tested TF Vanilla S*x today. It smells pretty good. Spicy vanilla, not too sweet. A little waxy. No detectable ambroxan. Too expensive.
Have you tried those Salonpas stick-on pain patches? They’re more effective for me personally than oral meds.
I have not. I will look them up. Thanks!
Do you know if the origin of the pain is muscle or nerve? They are treated in different ways, so it’s important to know.
I’m having a test for that in 2 weeks. I’m pretty sure my feet/leg numbness and back pain are related.
They just put me on the muscle relaxer today.
Hope your back will get better soon. Yes, pads can help as suggested by galbanumgal, as well as Icy Hot if memory serves and a hot water bottle.
