It's Tuesday, plus National Pasta Day and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. What fragrance are you wearing?
I had Viva Magenta plans for today, but instead I have Covid. I'll probably be commando the rest of the week. Tea at the moment is Art of Tea Tali's Masala Chai.
Reminder: on 10/20, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2023/2024 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Exuding the warmth and splendor of the sun, High Visibility expresses joy and good cheer." or "Sturdy and steady Burnt Sienna conveys a sophisticated earthiness." Also note that the set includes Viva Magenta, the color of the year...you could cheat and wear what you picked for that project.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Ginori 1735 Oriente Italiano Vermiglio Teapot is $580 at The Pink Daisy.
Oh no, Robin! I hope you at least have a mild form of Covid and it passes quickly. Get well!
I am in 17 Rue Cambon, and I am not sure what color is a better match – Red Dahlia (“elegance personified”) or Burnt Sienna (“sophisticated earthiness”).
Very Elegant
I hope so too, thanks!
I am not familiar with 17 RC so I am guessing you may mean 31 Rue Cambon. Or is it just me? That is entirely possible.
šš¤£š¤£ (I am laughing at myself)
Yes, it’s 31 Rue Cambon. I have difficulty remembering numbers.
In that case, I know you smell fabulous š Yes, it is very elegant.
31 Rue Cambon is both elegant and sophisticated.
Hello.
Oh no Robin! Get well soon!
Sotd is Chanel Paris-Paris. I can’t say exactly this reminds me of Paris but the name does work in “transporting” me there. It’s been a decade since I had been to Paris, I’d love to visit again. Certainly a lot must’ve changed.
I seem to go to Paris almost every 10 years and I need to get cracking. I am doing my first āpost COVIDā plane ride in May next year, assuming my cruise from Copenhagen to Iceland happens.
Paris is very much a museum city, not much ever changes, (I was born and bred in Paris).
Hello everyone!
Robin, so sorry to hear you have COVID. It’s really being going around again. I hope yours is mild.
I picked Paestum Rose today, which is kind of Burnt Sienna. This one is so good. I wish I hadn’t waited so long getting it.
Have a great day, all!
It is everywhere at the moment! Mild so far, we’ll see.
You smell fantastic.
Oh Robin, I’m sorry you have the plague! I hope it passes quickly. Thanks for picking out that cute teapot picture for us.
I’m also looking at Red Dahlia, elegance personified, to match Habanita, which I have been craving. In my head, I see Habanita as cerise silk velvet which is closer to Rose Violet but the high energy description doesn’t match.
I love that teapot! The price, not so much.
Covid made an unwelcome appearance at our office again-two people off for a week, the rest of us just have colds and so suffer through the week. End of self pity party.
Small spritz of Tubereuse Criminelle, cause I needed something a bit beautiful to get through the day.
Hope everyone stays germ free-Robin it’s so unfortunate that the germs found you. Hope you feel better very soon.
Sincerely,
Carole
You smell fabulous!
A lot of people are finding the rapid tests don’t pick up the new variants for 4-7 days, I suspect that is why it is spreading so much…people don’t know they have it even if they are being conscientious about testing. Oh well.
Robin, I hope you feel better soon! š»
Wearing Tom Ford F* Fabulous. I may stick to my TF decants this week since I rarely wear them.
Cold and windy day, but at least it is bright and sunny.
Happy Tuesday! š
I need to wear my TF decants too. Came upon my Vert dāEncens decant a week ago and it was even nicer than I remembered. Wish I had a FB.
I am surprised that I don’t reach for them more often since I like all of them a lot. I moved them now to the front of the cabinet.
No wind here today, but no sun either.
I’m wearing Gucci Envy from a decant.
I used to love that scent-I’d still be wearing it, if I had any š You smell amazing.
I hope you get better soon and donāt lose your sense of smell or if you do it comes back soon . I guess Iām feeling tender today because for the color Tender Peach I chose the fragrance Tender Light from the EstĆ©e Lauder āLuxury Collectionā. I got a travel size at Bloomingdaleās for 20% off recently because the notes of Chinese Tea Accord, Bergamot, and Florentine Iris sounded good to me and it is indeed good. The projection and longevity for a fresher scent is very impressive and it will be great for spring and summer.
I did not lose it last year when I had covid (september, I think?) so hope I keep it again this time too.
Glad to hear Tender Light is good, that one does indeed sound really tempting.
Chai tea this morning, but my father in law made it with coffee instead of tea.
Shalimar EDP
I smell glorious
Smelling swoony.
Chai coffee sounds amazing.
Shalimar EDC for me today!šš»
Kind of twins in Shalimar MI.
I wanted to tell you I started reading a book you may have read. It is The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary. Needed something light after finishing The Prospectors. That one dragged out for me.
I love Beth O’Leary!!! What do think?
I really liked The Flatshare and thought The No-Show was okay. The Road Trip seems pretty good so far. Only about 50 pages into it.
I bet that chai coffee smelled wonderful this morning. š
Robin I am sorry to hear this and I hope it passes quickly and without too many side effects.
Ditto!
Feel better Robin.
Passing you a virtual cup of my chai
Thanks both!
Feel better soon, Robin.
Like many others I saw Persian Jewel and was reminded of iris, so today I’m wearing my favourite iris, the spicy-plummy Mon Parfum Cheri, Par Camille. So glad I got a bottle of this when it was available.
Perfect!
Healing vibes for you and your son, Robin. Iām in Iris Porcelana, which feels like the Carnival Glass color to me.
Thanks cazaubon!
In Krizia Uomo Today, one of the samples in my travel bag that I havenāt worn yet. So strange and interesting and good.
Weāre in Amsterdam after a 6 1/2 train ride from Berlin. Our hotel room here is AMAZING, small but wonderful, with a view looking over a canal. (That might apply to most hotel rooms, for all I know, but it was a nice surprise.)
At the beginning of the trip I bought one of the Serge Lutens room sprays, the Japanese one, and I figured I ought to report on it. Yesterday before we headed out for a long day (mostly in Potsdam) I sprayed twice into the bathroom, and itās gorgeous, bright and fresh. When we got back, I COULD STILL SMELL IT, and it had developed into a deep, rich incense-and-tonka scent, one of the nicest incenses ever. And this morning as we were checking out, yes, the scent was still there. Itās amazingly durable, it evolves like a real scent, and it is stunningly good. Honestly, itās the best thing Iāve smelled from Lutens in years. (Ecrin de FumĆ©e, from the sample I got, is good, but not worth what theyāre charging for it.) When we get back to Paris this weekend I am almost certainly going to get at least one more.
Thanks for the report on the room spray. I found Ćcrin de FumĆ©e at the discounters for a nice price so I bought it. Glad your trip is turning out well despite the weather worries at the beginning!
Iād buy it for a nice price, too ā lucky you! The weather at the beginning missed us, but if you believe the forecasts it might rain from Thursday clean through Sunday, nearly our whole stay in Amsterdam and Paris. Weāre hoping theyāre wrong and itās not quite that dire, but either way weāll survive.
Oooh, interesting. I never thought about SL for room spray.
They have incense, too, and those little things of scented beads that fit into a holder, as Diptyque does. The spray seemed to be the most bang for the buck: the one I bought certainly seems to be ā itāll last ages.
That room spray sounds fab! Just did a search but it doesnāt look like itās available in the US. š Travel on!
That sounds amazing, i got the one with jasmine that smells divine too. Whatās the name of yours?
That room spray sounds lovely! Sold! I’m so glad that you’re enjoying your trip. I would love to be back in Europe for a while, but in the meantime I can live vicariously through you.
Guerlain Nerolia Vetiver and a large cup of black tea
Smelling good.
Oh no, Robin — I’m sorry about the crud. Very glad mine is just a cold, and it’s getting better — I can smell again today, mostly.
I did the iris thing today for Persian Jewel. I’m in La Curie Ossuary, which probably isn’t as purple-y a colour as that as the incense complicates things a bit. But, I can smell it, at least. š
I did iris again too.
Glad to hear that you are feeling a but better today.
“A bit”, not a but! Sheesh.
š
Shalimar EDC today. My favorite iteration of the queen…š¤š¹
Testing out a couple of the samples from my DSH order, with Cathedral on my left hand and Festive on the right. I guess I will match this with High Visibility, which is supposed to express “joy and good cheer”.
FREEBIE ALERT:
I have several small items that I want to get rid of and which I will send FREE to whoever claims them. I cannot guarantee the condition or provenance of anything that I did not buy brand new, but I believe all of these to be in in acceptable condition. I am willing to send the Covet by itself. The others I would prefer to send as a group. I am also quite happy to send ALL of these (the Covet plus all the others) to one person if somebody wants them all:
SJP Covet, 10 mL EdP spray. Received in swap. Cannot tell the exact amount left, as the container is opaque, but seems fairly full.
Please consider the below as one group:
Shiseido Message from Orchids, 5? mL EdP spray decant, with ~2 mL remaining. Purchased from a decanting source. This is one of the rare, hard to find Shiseidos. I think it was a Japan-only scent. It is a floral that is supposed to smell like the orange Cattleya orchid.
Jovan Modern Flowers, 1/8 oz. parfum splash, vintage. Nearly full. This is a Jovan scent from the 70s. Purchased from ebay. This is a multifloral scent. It does not seem to be listed in either Fragrantica or Basenotes, and I can find very little info on it.
l’Occitane Roses et Reines,7.5 ml EdT splash, NIB. Bought new. This is pretty much a straight-up rose scent.
Phlur Apricot Privee 2 mL EdP spray, few spritzes missing. Bought new. This is a fruity floral.
Phlur Phloria 2 mL EdP spray, few spritzes missing. Bought new. This is a white floral.
I will be listing some more freebies in the near future. To claim either or both of the above, email me at roses_50 in the land of yahoo, or click on my gravatar to find my contact info.
What do you think of those DSH samples?
I like them. Cathedral reminds me a bit of December, of which I already have a FB. Festive seems a bit less incense-y and a bit more evergreen. I am thinking it would be good year-round, as it is not so obviously Christmasy as to feel out of place the rest of the year. It does not seem to be available any more (or currently?) in EdP formulation. The website only shows the oild format and the Voile de Parfum (which uses isopropyl myristate instead of alcohol). I am thinking of getting a bottle of it for my DH.
Based on the glowing report of the SL room spray above, I just did an internet search but it doesnāt look like itās available in the US. Really sounds wonderful though!
Was gone all day yesterday doing loads of laundry that cost a fortune. According to a sign in the laundromat, the local water utilities company increased the cost of H2O by 200% in January of this year! šµāš« I shoved about four loads into two washers and two dryers but still cost me well over $10.
Today will be low key, so I chose a scent to match. JM Myrrh & Tonka, which I love for the first couple of hours but then goes into the Generic Dry-down phase of all the numerous JM fragrances. By that time, Iām a little over it, but the first couple of hours are quite nice. Iām matching with Tender Peach, not for the actual color name or because I smell any peach, but because itās a soft water color like tone, which fit the way this perfume behaves.
I hope you feel better soon, Robin!
Going with Apoteke Tepe The Holy Mountain for its “sophisticated earthiness” and Burnt Sienna color.
You smell great!
Thank you! I remember you like this one tooš
Testing a Beauty Pie scent, La Flaneuse. The name is cute, but also annoying. Perfumes do not smell better when they have French names—yeeesh. But what do I know about marketing?
I am liking this “fresh” bomb more than I expected. I am probably just in the mood for a ‘stepped out of the shower and geeze I have expensive conditioner’ perfume. I loathed the brand’s Vanilla Nue, so maybe I am just responding to low expectations. š
Robin, you have my sympathy for the onslaught of the ‘rona as we Californians call it. May yours be mild and short-lived!
I am managing typing again with two hands, at least in short spurts. It turns out I have five fractures in my upper arm–which once this is well behind me I shall feel quite proud about– but the doc is saying it will be a year of physical therapy to get the old dear working again and the arm will never be fully functional. Sadly, nothing like the horrific news cycles to sober one up and snap me out of self-pity. Still, I have my moments. š
That’s hard, OF. Sending a scented hug.
Oh wow, that is awful. My mother also fell last year and lost the use of her right arm because she had fractures as well as torn ligaments. I am so sorry to hear about this. Sending gentle hugs.
Wow. And OUCH! Best of luck with all the healing and PT.
Gosh thatās awful! Iām so sorry. Have you had your bone density checked recently?
Wishing you healing vibes and good luck with your physio. I, too, had physio for one year with a 4x dislocated shoulder. It’s a long haul, but worth it.
What a nuisance, Robin, I hope you recover quickly (or just don’t really get sick at all).
My SOTD is Histoires de Parfums 1725 which I’m matching to Persian Jewel.
I’m sorry to hear about the COVID, Robin. I hope it will be as brief and mild as possible. There does seem to be a lot of it going around.
Bah, I hope the case is mild, Robin, and that you feel all better soon.
Commando today for a massage (yay!) followed by a meeting. Yesterday was RoĆsĆn Dubh, which I will link to Red Dahlia. Most of the colors in that Pantone set are not me (this yearās fall London color set is a little bit better for me), but āRed Dahliaā seems to be on its way to āBlack Rose.ā
Feel better soon Robin!
Had a mid morning doctor’s appointment and ended up with a few more. Been having some issues with indigestion and never had a problem with it before so I get to go to a metabolic doctor to see what’s up.
Now it is off to work in Chanel no 5 edp.
Shalimar Philtre today for continued heat in southern CA. š
Take good care of yourself and feel better soon, Robin!
I still have not tested positive for Covid yet but I feel like that line from Phantom of the Opera…my days at the Paris opera house are numbered… š
I haven’t tested positive for Covid yet either so I am right there with you. I keep getting vaccinated, but I figure it is still going to rear its ugly head one of these days.
You smell marvelous, Philtre is very nearly my favorite flanker.
I think Philtre is great so you smell wonderful.
Hope that you have plenty of vanilla perfumes to keep you company.
Robin, may your Covid be mild and brief, and may you retain your sense of smell throughout. (I lost mine for two weeks when I had it). I too am now lemming that Lutens incense Japonais after Pyramus’s great report. If anyone ever wants to do a split, I’m in. SOTM for me is Jaisalmer, from the swapmeet, a new favorite, along with Kyoto, as I refresh my love for that entire CDG line and its offshoots (Hinoki, etc). CdG was one of my early tumbles down the perfume rabbit hole. 50 Roses, that is very kind of you.
Haha, every day here is Pasta Day!
We’re having some unseasonable and gorgeously warm, golden weather this week — off to the research lab in a skirt and sandals like it’s still summer, and a good dose of Galop. Galop seemed like the best fragrance accompaniment to my skirt, which is black silk patterned with red poppies. I always want to wear red when I’m wearing Galop.
Sorry to read you have COVID. New research suggests that taking Paxlovid not only reduces how long you are sick, but is very protective of long COVID lingering symptoms. Ask your doctor for some! The sooner you start taking it the better it works.
I am in Vivacious today, which is obviously a rose-violet perfume! I am going to get evaluated for cataract surgery this afternoon. Chassis maintenance!
I hope you get good news although it seems everyone at some point will need it!
Everyone who lives in Wyoming gets cataracts sooner or later. The doc says my left eye is the worst, so I can do just that one and then see how it goes with just the one.
Why in Wyoming? The sunlight? Dry air?
Lots of sun, plus less UV shielding due to high altitude.
Cataract surgery is the best thing I ever did. Hope you have a similar experience!
Thanks, I hope so too! Most people tell wonderful stories, but it only takes one or two not so wonderful stories to make me nervous!
Hope that you get good news with your evaluation!
So sorry you are sick Robin even though I believe you said you were vaccinated. Hope this means your symptoms won’t be too bad or for very long.
I am back in iris again today with Shalimar MI. For not ever liking Shalimar, this one sure has changed my mind. Maybe I will be able to wear the original now. I may have to try it sometime.
I am still trying to resist buying Shalimar MI
I will gladly enable you. Get it before it’s gone. That is why I ended up getting the BUB.
If worst comes to worst, you can rehome that Shalimar MI.
We’ve woken up to sunshine – yay! I’m wearing a multi-coloured tweedy dress today. It’s muted shades of yellow, pink and blue, so close to several of the CP colours. I’m going classic in L’Heure Bleu, which goes with pretty much everything.
Your dress sounds pretty, yes to l’Heure Bleue.
Robin, so sorry you got COVID. Hopefully, itās mild since you are now essentially double-boosted although boosters now seem to be the wrong word choice. In any case I just got rid of all my old test kits and just placed an order for another batch. Theyāre free for one set of four:
https://special.usps.com/testkits
SOTD = The Harmonist Royal Earth
I am pairing this beauty with Pantone Coconut Milk!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CygtCoYxLNB/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Thanks for this information on free tests. I probably need to order some. Better check my expiration dates first. Thanks again!
I noticed that all my tests did not have an extended expiration date. Phooey.
Where did you find Coconut Milk?
It is not part of the Autumn/Winter 2023/2024 NYFW Palette but of the Autumn/Winter 2023/2024 New Classics. The same link Robin posted, but you need to scroll down.
Now that is a perfect match!
Robin, sending healing vibes, hope it will be a mild case, you and your son need somebody to make restorative soup.
Banana, apples and yogurt smoothie
The sprayer on my Crown Perfumery Heliotrope is faulty, so sprays only once, then you have to wait 15 minutes, then spray again… etc but the scent is lovely and fairly potent. Tonight it’s Yves Rocher Nature Millenaire which I haven’t worn in a long time.
That’s a long wait to get to a second spray.
Thank you Lillyjo, it requires patience for sure, it’s the first time I encounter this particularvproblem, very odd.
At least your perfume doesn’t need a ton of sprays for you to enjoy it.
True, luckily it’s very strong.
Feel better soon Robin!
SOTD is Must de Cartier, which in my mind is a powerhouse, adult perfume for people who have things to do and don’t suffer fools. So perfect for my online court appearance this afternoon to fight a bogus parking ticket! š
Today’s tea is a chai. It is tasty but probably not even remotely as good as Lovetosmellgood’s.
aww! I will tell my FIL š
Hope that your online court appearance went well this afternoon!
Ticket dismissed! The parking app must have been malfunctioning because multiple had the same issue where they paid the meter via this app, but got parking tickets anyway.
I totally need a “don’t suffer fools” perfume. š
I’m so sorry you have Covid, Robin. Drat it all! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
I’m in Hilde Soliani Il Vs Iris which I find to be very delicate which I enjoy.

Good to see you posting Holly!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Thank you for this!
You’re welcome!
So sorry to hear that you do have COVID, Robin. I hope it doesn’t stick around for long and your symptoms are mild.
More weirdly unsettled weather for me today. Not sure when I will see the sun next.
SOTD = commando, but using Korres’ Grecian Gardenia body butter on my shins.
I saw the sun off and on today. More rain expected this week though.
Iām late today but reading and catching up, Iām in Parfums de Marly Delina and pairing it with tender peach. All the products for this are pale pink and itās a soft pretty scent. Since I usually prefer brighter colors, Iāll have to be more imaginative tomorrow. Iām thinking of going to Neiman Marcus for their Ladt Call sale and if I do, Iāll definitely sniff some stuff.
Like others here, I send sympathy and well wishes, Robin.
Good luck with C19 Robin. hope it’s a very mild case.
Cacharel LibertĆ© in bottle colour synchronicity with Red Orange. It’s a super sizzling orange fruitchouli.
I like the sound of your sotd!
Sadly it’s long Dcd Lilly but I love it to bits and bought up a stockpile when its got cut. PHEW!
Orange + patchouli are a classic combo for good reason!
Hey there JalapeƱo!
Yes indeed.
Hope all travelling smoothly for you.
Commando most of the day after getting the flu shot. Iāve got plans with a friend tomorrow, so I just got one shot today. A little soreness in my arm but the seasonal shot has never bothered me. Seeking CP point in Diorella for Pantoneās Kohlrabiās āpiquancy.ā However as a big fan of kohlrabi the veg, I think it is sweet and mellow!
Have fun with your friend tomorrow!
Glad to hear that today’s shot isn’t much of a pain for you. Enjoy tomorrow!
Yay flu shot!
This morning seems like a very long time ago. I spritzed a bit of Angel Innocent.
We have a new part time lady at work. She’s been there all of a week and is bossing some people around. She even made a comment to me about my work. ( which I ignored) I avoided her all day today just to not have any confrontation. We are in need of another supervisor and I am so hoping my boss doesn’t ask her to apply. Part of me says to start getting on her good side but the other part of me says there is no good side! Lol.
Get well soon Robin!š·
I think I agree with your side that says there is no good side to Ms. Overbearing Busybody. Sorry that you have t deal with that at work.
And that should be “TO deal with”….
Sounds like she has the perfect Management Mentality.š
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your new co-worker. She’ll most likely not last too long; I’ve worked with people like that before.
Definitely no good side. In my experience, anyone not humble and helpful on starting work, even if they’ve done the work before, is not going to contribute to the team.
I think you’re right to ignore her, maybe she’s bossy because she’s insecure being new.
I kind of outdid myself on the Viva Magenta CP, and Iāve been commando for two days for various reasons, so I guess Iām chiming in very late today just to say that I got nuthinā so far this week. Will do better starting tomorrow!
So sorry about the Covid, Robin. I hope this time it’ll not be as rough for you.
I worked at the office today, which usually means I’m fragrance free, but I snuck in some dabs of Ayala Moriel Megumi from a sample that’s almost empty. It’s a really nice chypre, but I can’t figure out a color to associate with it. I’ll be back to working from home tomorrow so will hope to start figuring out color pairings. Now I think the SOTN will be Trudon Mortel that I just got in a swap. I had swap success with the Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bete decant I wore yesterday.
Some perfumes don’t have a color association for me either.
I hope you’re feeling OK, Robin. Sorry to hear about covid making the rounds again.
I wore CdG Avignon from a sample. Matching this to the New Classics color of Silver Birch, kind of reminding me of church incense.
You smelled lovely. One of my favourites.
