It's Monday plus World Food Day. RIP Rudolph Isley, Louise Glück, Piper Laurie and Suzanne Somers. What fragrance are you wearing?
I decided to do this Friday's community project using the color descriptions rather than the colors themselves. Today I'm doing High Visibility, "Exuding the warmth and splendor of the sun, High Visibility expresses joy and good cheer", and I'm in Aftelier Candide.
Reminder: on 10/20, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2023/2024 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Exuding the warmth and splendor of the sun, High Visibility expresses joy and good cheer." or "Sturdy and steady Burnt Sienna conveys a sophisticated earthiness." Also note that the set includes Viva Magenta, the color of the year...you could cheat and wear what you picked for that project.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in Carnal Flower matching it with Carnival Glass:
“A mentholated green with an icy appearance, Carnival Glass cools and refreshes”
And extra points for Carnal/Carnival, I hope.
Oh, of course extra points!
Yay! Thanks!
I found Incense Flash and decided that it was perfect for this first cold-ish day of fall. It was in the forties last night, and its not expected to get out of the sixties today. For fall in Texas, that is cold.
Stay warm PriscillaE!
Such a bummer than Incense Flash wasn’t around for very long.
In Tom Ford Fleur de Chine to cheer up on this cold, cloudy, windy day.
On my third cup of coffee and a slice of rosemary focaccia with feta cheese and red peppers.
Happy Monday!☕️
I’m sending you some of our sun and cat kisses from Les Trois 😻😻😻
Thank you, cm8!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
You smell beautiful and yum to your breakfast!
I would send you some sun but I am fresh out!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
Any sun you send is more than welcome! 🌞
Your focaccia and feta nosh sounds SO yummy!
I’d love to send you some sun, but mine disappeared over the course of the day and now I have rain showers.
The sun decided to show up in the afternoon, so it was nice and pleasant. No rain in the forecast until Friday, again!
Hello.
Sotd is Amouage Love Tuberose. A deliciously creamy tuberose.
The weather has finally started to cool and it’s supposed to be 10C lower this Saturday. I can’t wait.
Despite the crappy weather here this summer, you are looking forward to cool weather more than I am!
I love Fall, and Winter even more! Maybe being born on the Winter Solstice “wired” me some sorta way. Lol!
I have that scent too, and love it. Maybe I’ll wear that today! Thanks for the idea.
Maybe we can count this fragrance for Tender Peach. I kind of think of it as a pale pink color. What do you say?
Yes! It’s perfect! In fact, it’s the exact colour of LT’s box. The colour description of Tender Peach – “soft and easy touch” matches too!
I’m commando and going with Tender Peach for that, since it’s the lightest colour and my ribcage feels pretty tender right now. I can’t smell anything; caught a cold over the weekend and am feeling miserable after spending the night in coughing fits.
In other news, Nexin is still available at Les Senteurs, I found out this morning. £30 shipping to the US. Hmm…considering.
…aaaand just did the conversion on £240, and…probably not for me. But — PSA for anyone who really wants Nexin and has the $$ — check out Les Senteurs.
£30 seems to be the norm for shipping to the U.S. unless you buy a ton of stuff.
Oh, and I hope you recover quickly!
So sorry! My son thought he had a cold yesterday but turns out it’s covid — the faintest red line on the test, no sore throat. Tons of coughing.
My BIL has covid too.
My stepmother possibly has a cold too, or she has covid…so far she has tested negative.
Hope you are better asap ockeghem!
Gosh, Robin, that’s a lot of cases of Covid. I hope they stay fairly mild, and hope you will be all right.
And all in different cities!
I just had my jab a couple weeks ago, so hopefully I won’t get it, but we’ll see. My son was walking around the house coughing for a couple days, he originally thought it was allergies.
Oh no! That IS a lot of COVID. Fortunately no COVID here, just a cold rattling around in my chest now and keeping me from breathing normally at night. I hope everyone’s better soon on your side, and that your vaccine protects you!
DAMN – hope everyone feels better soon.
Yikes. Sorry to hear that Robin.
A couple of my friends had COVID recently too. Looks like there is a spike of cases in this area.
Hope you feel better soon.
Oh no, hope you are better soon.
Feel better soon, Ockeghem!
Oh no… Get well soon!!
Healing vibes!
Yuck! Hope that you shake off The Crud soon!
When I saw Persian Jewel, I instantly knew it would be an iris week. Starting off with Ex Nihilo Iris Porcelana, which is lovely! Most of what I’ll wear this week is from an iris sample bag, thanks to a lovely NSTer. ❤️
Looking forward to reading what you are wearing
Perfect, and I may do an iris day this week too!
I am probably doing a few iris days this week too.
You smell great! My husband just brought me back a bottle of Iris Porcelana from Munich. I should do iris for the rest of the week too, great idea.
Oooh — where did he get it in Munich? I usually end up at Ludwig Beck, but always curious to hear if there are places I’m missing…
He got it at Bruckner Perfumerie I believe.
I think I’ve probably been past that place a thousand times (probably more) and have never been in. It’s right across from Ludwig Beck. Okay, rectifying this the next time I’m there.
Iris is an excellent match for Persian Jewel!
Happy Monday! SotD Chanel No. 19 Poudre. Poudre was so enjoyable on my walk in the cloudy, damp morning but I am a Poudre fan at all times. I’m looking forward to the challenge of this week’s CP. Also, there was some discussion over the weekend about the sillage of Shalimar MI. I’ve been wearing it regularly, and I love the way I can smell it throughout the day. I use the term scent bubble and I can’t really love a perfume that does not have one.
I love the way it smells too, but how do you think it projects? I am not sure if other people smell it as no one has said anything to me yet. I would think the sillage is good since we can smell it on ourselves all day.
I’ve not worn it out too often, and have not had any comments. I did smell it in the air in my bedroom several hours after I put some on. At least in the cooler weather here, I’m guessing it has a soft projection, maybe barely out of your personal space.
It sounds like No. 19 Poudre and Shalimar MI have a similar feel, based on what folks are saying here.
I do agree! But if one is not on Team Poudre, SMI has other tricks up its sleeve. 😀
I take it No. 19 Poudre is similar to No, 19. If so, No. 19 was too green for me. SMI is not green at all.
I didn’t find No. 19 Poudre terribly green when I sampled it.
Lagerfeld Chloe, vintage, one spray. How is it that the decades old colognes and edts require at most four sprays but the current niche “extraits ” 16-32 on my scent devouring skin?
Just realized I’m cp compliant 😜as the juice of my vintage bottle is “red orange”. I’ve been doing my own project for the past three weeks called “Operation Rotate Bottles”. I bring up five to seven bottles from the shelving unit in the basement and keep them on my shelf in my bedroom. When the week is done I put them back in their boxes in a much larger box rather than returning to said shelving unit. The goal is to empty the shelving unit which guarantees all of my full bottles get skin time.
It seems to me as well that current perfumes have much less intensity and lasting power. I don’t know that I’ve ever needed 16 to 32 sprays, but I have used as many as 8 or 10. I think part of the problem is that so many of the formerly used fixatives or longer lasting base notes have been banned or severely restricted. The longest lasting perfume i own is a tiny bottle of Secret de Venus. It is a very concentrated, thick, oil type perfume. ONE tiny drop is enough, and it lasts for 24 hours or more, even through a shower.
I think that’s right…the newer synthetics used as base notes don’t last as wrong.
And perhaps that’s just as well…
I would like a happy medium. While I don’t necessarily want my perfume to last 24 hours–and that is precisely why I seldom wear SdV–it is disappointing when I can barely smell a fragrance after a mere hour or two. Four to six hours would be ideal most of the time.
Agree. 4 hours is my sweet spot.
It’s funny, I’ve dipped my toe into several vintage fragrances, craving something more solid and strong than a lot of the vaporous fluff we see on the shelves today…and sometimes, the vintage stuff is just TOO much for me. I’m happy with a wear time of about 4-6 hours, but vintage Opium sets up shop and keeps banging that gong until the sun comes up. Sometimes a long-lasting perfume can actively work my nerves.
I do understand getting tired of a perfume that overstays its welcome. I am always hesitant to pull out that tiny bottle of Secret de Venus, simply because I an hesitant to commit to a single perfume for 24+hours, no matter how beautiful it is. I think with a vintage frag the key is to apply *very* sparingly, at least until you find out just how potent it is. I find that I tend to fall into the trap of overapplying. No matter how much I remind myself that the vintage stuff is usually stronger, part of my brain refuses to believe that one spritz or one or two tiny drops might be enough.
You smell great, ChocolateMarzipan. Those early Lagerfelds Chloe & Narcisse were nuclear strength and so pretty. Agree that many new releases are pallid by comparison and fade so quickly it drives me nuts.
You are so right. Although I did manage to gas myself out Saturday with 4 spritzes of Kerosene Followed. I was wafting maple syrup french toast to the skies all day.
The scent equivalent of High Visibility is Projecting Siilage, right? So today I am in DS &Durga Durga, tuberose for ever and ever…I love this. I don’t think I have any other tuberose forward perfumes – I need to try some others! Happy Monday, one and all – I made some progress on the decluttering and catching up project over the weekend, so this is a non-stressful, feeling sort of on top of things Monday to me. That should be a project – Arrange my life so that Mondays are a very good day…in perfume terms, what scent do you wear on Monday to perk yourself up/make Monday bearable/ whatever?
I like your project idea!!!!
Great cp idea! I need to try your Sotd because I’m a big fan of tuberose.
Undiluted tuberose, on and on from start to whenever it disappears, quite a bit later on sweaters, etc. I love it – it give me an energizer bunny type lift, it keeps going and on, and so do I!
I’m with Allo. I love tuberose too so need to try that one.
I’ll cosign on your “Making Mondays Better” project idea!
Today I’m wearing freckled and beautiful, high visibility indeed!
It just clicked for me that since Olivia giacobetti is doing a line of “clean” smelling fragrances for zara, one might smell like my dearly beloved iunx talc. So I just blind bought a small bottle of the one I thought sounded most like it-livre blanc. Fingers crossed!
I got a bottle of Livre Blanc and there is definitely some shared DNA with Talc, at a much lower price!
That’s wonderful news!
SOTD is Shiseido Koto EdC. I don’t know if this one is any different in other concentrations, but the EdC is very soft and gentle for a chypre, so I think it is a good match for Tender Peach–“Gentle Tender Peach invites a soft and easy touch.” Also, I always find chypres to smell autumnal, and we are having some beautiful fall weather–sunny with highs in the 70s and chilly (40s and 50s) nights.
Excellent matching!
Such a shame about Suzanne Somers; she fought bc for a long long time. Those old Three’s Company episodes with the original trio and the Ropers never fail to make me lol/lmao, even when in a bad or crabby mood. She was quite genius.
Yesterday I wore my very favorite SJP Lovely; I am quite stingy with this scent since it is not offered in the local stores so much now. I suppose in the one scent-desert island polls this would be one of them. Not sure what is on the menu later today, I am thinking of finishing up my Lime Mandarin mini bottle. (would that be a thunk?)
Happy (windy and chilly) Monday!
Lovely is so pretty.
Lovely is so pretty, I don’t like it on myself but I gave my bottle to my mother and it smells wonderful on her.
Today I’m road-testing a very old very partial bottle of Houbigant Quelques Fleurs from an antique flea market that I couldn’t resist. At least I think it’s QF, the label fell off but it’s the same as previous bottles I’ve owned – roundish bottle with octagonal flower petal stopper. The juice has darkened and thickened with age but is still good – a rich floral with loads of animalics.
Yum, loads of animalics!
I seem to be in the right spot at the right time. Weather forecast for the rest of the week is full on sunshine with a high of 68-72F during the day and night time lows 35-45F. I have not one single complaint about any of that! 🌞
I have a crap ton of stuff to do today and I feel like doing none of it, but will persevere to at least try and get all my laundry done in town. It’s gotten to the point I’m hand washing unmentionables because I have no clean clothes left. For this glamorous chore, I’ll be wearing Roja Dove Enslaved which could probably fit every single color descriptions at the same time in a huge explosion of “everything but the kitchen sink.” For all that seeming chaos, it’s lovely and I wouldn’t turn down a full bottle if it was reasonably priced.
Happy Monday! Hope it’s the beginning of a stellar week for everyone. We all need some good news, so if you’ve got it, say it loud! ☮️
I have a bottle of Enslaved and I completely agree with your description. Enjoy your perfect weather!
Enjoy the great weather, Deva!
And my bottle was on sale for 40% off!
I’m with Nancy and thought iris as soon as I saw Persian Jewel. I will start the week off with VC &A with Bois d’Iris.
Have a good week everyone.
Perfect!
I’m wearing my sample of Ylang 49 and I love it. The color of the ylang-ylang flower seems to match High Visibility perfectly too.
Happy Monday, my fragrant friends!
You’re smelling great today!
CDG Kyoto for this cold and cloudy autumn day.
You smell great NinaV.
Spent my morning cleaning my bathroom and vacuuming in Hedonist. Now that I am out of the shower and making myself some lunch. SOTD is Cuir de Russie edt. Cuir de Russie was what made me fall down the rabbit hole.
CdR is such a beauty and though I don’t remember the EdT very well, I preferred it to the EdP.
The EDP is a disgrace to my nose and the extrait is fabulous but too expensive for what you get.
Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato to sort of match with “Carnival Glass”.I enjoy this one so much, almost throughy 10ml bottle.I’ll have to get a 50ml at some stage.
Happy Monday!✌🏻🌹
Oh, I would think that was a perfect match! Happy Monday to you too JB.
Shouldn’t the Gratitude Friday CP be 11/17 rather than 11/27?
Fixed, thank you so much for bringing it to my attention!
Starting the day in SL Tubéreuse Criminelle because it’s Vivid and Magenta and lovely. Definitely a desert island fragrance for me.
That one definitely fits the CP. I was thinking of wearing mine too, but I find it such a commitment to wear. It demands to be paid attention to! And in the end, that weird little Quelques Fleurs bottle was calling my name louder this morning.
I hear you – sometimes TC feels like too much…and then I go ahead and wear it anyway😇
I’m wearing Fleurs D’Oranger and I’m matching it with red orange for obvious reasons.
Perfect match!
I’m wearing Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille which would probably match with a mix of Red Dahlia and Persian Jewel. It’s suddenly turned chilly in Luxembourg, some places even had some light overnight frost. Beautiful sunny weather though.
Jealous of your SOTD. I use to have a decant of that one.
I lucked out with MPCPC and snagged two bottles off eBay a couple of months after it was first launched. I think a lot of people blind bought it and ended up not liking it very much. It was very easy to obtain used bottles at the time.
Shalimar Tonka
You smell lovely! I’ll be breaking open my bottle of that one later this fall.
That is a gorgeous yellow, wow! At first glance, Robin, I was surprised because I thought your picture was a tribute to Ukraine. Now I understand. I really like all of those colors this time, which is a rare thing–with the possible exception of kohlrabi, which I would not want on a wall in my house. (But maybe it’s just that I don’t like the associated vegetable.).
I’m saving my Amouage Love Tuberose for another day. It’s downright COLD here this morning (well, ha ha, by Texas standards), and so I pulled out a heavy hitter, Coromandel. I’m matching it to Burnt Sienna. By coincidence that is a color in the palette right beside me now on my table because I’m following directions on painting a tabby cat in watercolor. You begin with three washes of color, burnt sienna, cobalt blue, and sepia. I like that color burnt sienna a lot. I’ve let the first washes dry and now it’s time to touch up my picture.
The business of associating colors with scents is a curious one. In some cases I think we go inevitably in a direction because of either the juice or bottle color, or the colors of the relevant ingredients, mostly flowers or herbs. Saffron and ylang ylang are yellow, of course. Sometimes it has more to do with the mood of something (L’heure bleue). I like to think that certain scents are dark, and coromandel is a dark brownish red.
I always think of colors, but agree it is often due to other associations…I do not have true synaesthesia.
Ooo this is fun. I am in Chanel Boy again, since it is so comforting and beautiful.
I think the closest color here would be Tender Peach, which is the least exciting of the options lol. But “a soft an easy touch” is exactly Boy.
Works for me…and I like the idea of Boy being Tender Peach.
My dress today is a similar shade to Carnival Glass – it’s cream with teal spots and is quite summery, unlike our wet and windy weather. However, I’m determined to wear it. My perfume is Le Galion’s La Rose.
Stick to your guns, Gaynor!
I reached for Encens Mythique, which I think fits with the magenta/red colors. But I think I’ll switch to iris the rest of the week.
you smell wondeful.
Banana, apples and yogurt smoothie
I was wearing Jersey all day, and tonight it’s Outremer Vanilla, simple but I like it quite a bit.
So many different kinds of apples are at the farm stands here in New Jersey right now.
Yeah for apples, these are Gala from France, very good but I shall buy local apples from Kent next time, better for the environment.
Sampling Perris Monte Carlo Vanille de Tahiti Extrait today.
I quite like the original EDP but never got around to buying a FB. The extrait has amped ylang so far and very good throw from a dabber. I shall have to do a side by side comparison at some point.
If anyone has an unloved bottle of the EDP, please let me know.
I just got done liberally spraying Nicolai Vanille Tonka after being commando for a haircut.
My self care goal was met today by having my house cleaned. Way better for me than a mani pedi. The sweet girl who cleans finishes up by spritzing the rooms with Mrs Meyers room sprays, today was Acorn Spice and it smells so good! I got all the laundry done over the weekend, TCM is showing Jean Harlow movies all day, it’s a good day. Hope you all find some good in your day, too.
How nice to have your house cleaned!
You *did* have a Good Monday!
Ooh, Red Dahlia speaks to me. I love a moody red, and this one has a hint of softness to it. “Imposing Red Dahlia is elegance personified.” It sounds like a perfect fit with Galop D’Hermès, which has been my jam lately. (Still saving up for a refill bottle.)
Red Dahlia looks like it would match up nicely with Samsara to me.
Hermes 24 Faubourg
Classy!
SOTD is Bal d’ Afrique to keep the travel mojo going as long as possible.
Going to go get my covid booster in a few and drop some things at post office.
No job offers yet. I really want to work part time.
Hope that you have minimal side effects from your booster shot.
2nd that….good luck apsara!
Laundry day here at Casa de Jalapeno. It was a good match for a somewhat cloudy and chilly Monday.
SOTD = commando, except for The Body Shop’s British Rose body butter. I have a couple of small travel sizes of it, and I think I have one more use out of this one. A thunk is getting close!
I do like British Rose! I may hear the thunk from here tomorrow.
Depends on if I use it tomorrow, or pick something else from the Bodycare Stash!
I’m very nearly ready to thunk my British Rose butter, too! I didn’t think I’d go through that much, but man, is it ever a lovely dewy-fresh-crisp rose. Not powdery or sweet at all, just bright and cheerful.
Almost-thunk twins! It is a truly pretty rose that plays well with quite a few other scents.
But it may have been reformulated recently. I have read reports that the body butter is not the same as it used to be. That would be annoying.
I will keep my ear out for the thunk!
We shall see if I use it tomorrow, or decide to change things up again…
PSA: just read that Guerlain Frenchy Lavande and Iris Torréfié are being discontinued, on the heels of the discontinuation of Oeillet Pourpre and Embruns d’Ylang.
Wow! Iris Torrefie is newish, isn’t it? I want to know more about the extraits at some point.
Iris Torrefie is very good, but I can see that at that bottle size and pricing, it would not sell very well. Probably the same is true for Embruns. They both are quiet scents.
SOTD = Parle Moi Orris Tattoo 29
Powdery iris and almost vegetal. I am pairing this with Silver Birch. Like some here, I may just do a whole week of iris!

I am slowly but surely using my debit card refund from Verizon. While the balance is on the large side, I may be able to get it down to as close to zero as I can before it expires March 2024.
My niece is recovering nicely. She had been infused with clotting factors daily prior to and after the surgery. She’s now back to regular programming. I did not really get an answer to my question regarding rehab but I will ask again.
Great news on both the debit card refund and your niece’s healing!
Oh, good news all around! 😊
So glad your niece is recovering well.
So glad your niece is doing well!
I’m wearing Sunset Hour today. It’s probably closest to Tender Peach in feel.
And close enough to the juice color 🙂
We are already marking down Halloween and Thanksgiving items at the store.
I decided to copy PL67 tonight and wear Fleur de Chine.
Twins! We smell fantastic!
Thanksgiving mark downs already??? That’s crazy!
Crazy! 🎃🦃
So are the Valentine’s Day things coming in next week?
Well, you know, Thanksgiving IS over…in Canada. 🙂
PSA: For the month of October, Bruno Fazzolari/Fzotic is selling a travel spray of Corpse Reviver. So if that’s your yum, now’s the time!
Oooh, when it’s his month to sell a travel spray of Ummagumma, I need to know. (Actually I just need a FB. Actually, when I was doing the math on Tauer Nexin, I was thinking: I could get FBs of Ummagumma and Wode for this, both of which I have smelled…)
