It’s Hump Day, National Fossil Day and International Day of the Girl. Birthdays: Eleanor Roosevelt, Thich Nhat Hanh. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points for the basmati rice and champaca in Ormonde Jayne Champaca.
Reminder: on 10/13, we're off to India! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in India, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to India, or that features an Indian ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I chose Penhaligon’s Malabah for the CP.
From Penhaligon’s website:
“Smoky earl grey tea. Spiced ginger. Sweet amber. An eau de parfum sure to inspire vivid daydreams of an East Indian Spice route. Sensual and rousing warmth lingers long after our journey’s end.”
It is a pleasant scent, but I find the above description rather misleading. Not much smoke, hardly any amber. Starts as a fresh blend of citrus and spices and has a pretty sweet spicy dry-down. Vaguely floral heart. The lingering aromatic spiciness on the skin is the best part, in my opinion.
Oh, good choice. I like Malabah quite a bit even though the description is a little misleading. It’s too bad they no longer make it.
Hello!
Sotd is J’adore L’Or 2023 version (from a sample). First it’s not too different than the previous L’Or but soon, the jasmine gets stronger and is very reminiscent of Alien.
J’adore always seem a little Indian to me, not the scent so much but the bottle design. The gold colour and the rings on the neck reminds me of the many gold accessories layered on the ladies (both bracelets/bangles and necklaces).
Oh my gosh, I am finally part of the Shalimar MI club! My bottles (yes I got two blind because I have a feeling I would love it) arrived! I plan to save this for Friday so I am doing everything I can to resist the urge to spray. I will share my thoughts then! 🙂
Enjoy your Shalimar MI, not coming to Oz till next month.
I did a blind buy on the first bottle, but liked it right away so just received my BUB yesterday. Have you tried it yet? I think you will enjoy it.
Yay for your Shalimar: Mission Impossible! 😉 I hope you love it!
In The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit for the CP.
Happy Wednesday! 🌻
YUM! Very happy Wednesday to you too PL67.
Thank you, Portia!
I was just thinking of that one. You smell lovely!
Thank you, Allo! It is a great scent!
You smell great! Hope you’ll have a nice Wednesday.
Thank you! 😊
I have never tried anything by The Different Company. I love jasmine, but when I looked this up on Fragrantica it didn’t sound like the jasmine was that noticeable. Is that true? Curious what it smells like.
On my skin the jasmine is prominent, but it is not a soliflore scent. It is beautifully blended with cardamom and sandalwood. A great spicy jasmine perfume!
Interesting. Hmmmm.
Nice to hear that the TDC Jasmine de Nuit plays nice with you. Sandalwood is one of your “nemesis notes” IIRC.
Sandalwood is my nemesis, but fortunately, I do not find it so overwhelming on Jasmin de Nuit.
Happy Hump Day! We’re up and at ‘em early this morning. Already spritzed a generous amount (3 sprays if a lot for me!) of Shalimar MI. Yum yum!
Headed into town to the train station to catch the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic Railway for a ride into Colorado and back. I’m only doing a half trip which is 6 hours instead of 10, because 10 hours stuck with a load of people is just too much for me. 😅
It’s the highest a narrow gauge railway travels in the US- >10,000ft, and I’m hoping I get some good photos. I rarely do this kind of thing because it’s always expensive (I got the last cheap seat, but it was still expensive💸💸) but the colors are so stunning I couldn’t say no.
Anyway, I’m prepared- boots, t-shirt, flannel shirt, vest, down coat, and a wool scarf! Wheee! Time to get chilly! 🥶
That sounds exciting, have fun Deva!
Have fun. Is doggo going with you?
Sounds like a really cool train ride! Enjoy!
That sounds like a fantastic trip!
That sounds fun. Have a good time!
How fun Deva! enjoy!
I’ve just looked it up and it seems a gorgeous trip, I hope you have a great time! (in spite of all the people)
Have fun, sounds great!
Envious of your ride on the Cumbres & Toltec! That’s on my bucket list.
It looks like a great ride!
Happy you finally got and are loving Shalimar MI!
Tonight it’s Miller et Bertaux Indian Study / Santal+++ for the CP.
Dry but slightly sweet sandalwood that was beautiful on my evening dog walk.
Hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday.
Very busy Wednesday here, hope your day was as lovely as your fragrance 🙂
Bought some liquorice tea and drinking it now. Happily strange, very meaty. Definitely a convert.
Oh good! I like it too. If you have any blood pressure or water retention or general electrolyte problems, don’t drink too much of it…you probably already know that but just in case 🙂
Wearing Jean Patou Heritage Chaldee today, I’ve ignored this for too long.
It was 38F this morning. Such late October temperatures but the trees are mainly green. It feels odd.
I’ll never forget The Alembicated Genie, Sheila’s, review of Chaldea. You smell so good
The trees are turning colors later than usual here too.
I have a little jar or sandalwood paste that I picked up years ago, and I am wearing a tiny dab of it right now, so points for the CP.
Right now it is raining again, but it is supposed to be mostly sunny and dry this weekend. I really, really want clear skies on Saturday, and especially from 11:55 to 12:01.
I think the forecast for Saturday is clear.
The forecast I saw was for “mostly sunny”. I am just hoping a stray cloud doesn’t drift across the sun right during the maximum point of the eclipse. I want to get a photo of the “ring of fire”, and to see it myself in real life. Back in 2017, we drove to Missouri to see the total eclipse, and on the day of the eclipse, it was almost completely overcast. It was still pretty cool, but I didn’t get any pics of totality.
Morning all!
Still no perfume yet but eyeing my Shalimar MVP. Busy, busy day, still preparing to move. Happy to have perfume as a fun distraction.
I sampled Tom Ford’s Metallique (sp?) at Sephora yesterday. An interesting scent! I haven’t looked at the notes but my impressions were of a white bar of soap + sweet vanilla over a top of musks.
I love Metallique! It reminds me of a cozier, modern take on No 5 or White Linen (on my skin, which tends to boost aldehydes). I don’t hear much about it, but I really enjoy it.
Ohh interesting! I’ll have to sample it again to see if I can make the connection. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Hope the moving goes well and the weather is nice and dry
IIRC, lillyjo wears Metallique on a semi-regular basis.
Good luck with your move! Hope that it isn’t very far or complicated.
I hope your move is going well. (It feels like day 147 for me). The only way through this IS with fun perfume.
I’m in Nu Green, which was among the decants that I found in a box on my bedside table. I’ve got a sinus infection messing with my ability to smell, so when I was spraying this it smelt like rancid peanut butter. Much better smelling now, a mixture of the top notes of terragon and mint.
Sorry about the sinus infection, but glad your nose adjusted to the Nu Green!
Enjoying Rose Anonyme today.
YUM.
Well hello! Nice to see you again!
What a wonderful dark rose perfume!
I’m in Abel Nurture, which I’m now realizing I forgot to confess to donatella because it was so cheap-$7.50! Plus shipping, I’m sure she’d just scoff at that.
Today is our last day of sun before 3 days of rain. Ugh. We do need it though. Making plans already for a lunchtime walk.🌞
Lunchtime walk twins today!
I’m not sure Donatella is aware monetary values go that low 😉
Ha!😂 I’m sure you are right.
Wearing NV Pichola for the cp. I wished that I had bought Trayee instead of Pichola but it’s smelling beautiful on this very rainy morning.
That one is my plan for Friday 🙂
I’m on point this morning in DSH’s Vachi, a really beautiful sandalwood. I will likely finish my travel roll-on today 😔From the DSH website: “This fragrance takes inspiration from the Hindu Goddess Saraswati (Goddess of art, wisdom, and learning) and a name given to Saraswati, “Vachi” which means “nectar-like speech” or “mellifluous voice”. ”
Banal challenge #16 from a month into a broken arm: Missing being able to pull my hair away from my face and put it in a scrunchy.
I was sorry to hear about your arm. I hope it mends really well.
Ow! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Sorry about your arm! It’s true, you certainly miss the simple things during times like this. I hope you have a helper who can assist you.
My big work event that I mentioned I was involved in planning was held on Monday. It went really well! However, the week leading up was very stressful and Sunday I was there helping prepare and decorate for five hours. I also had a rough mental health day on Saturday. Thank goodness it’s all over. I’m so relieved to move on and just do my regular work. I think I may have finally caught up on sleep. I have also taken Friday off since I was granted a comp day for working Sunday and long hours on Monday. Can’t wait!
I didn’t wear perfume Monday or a couple days last week due to stress and exhaustion, but I’m happily back to smelling great this week. Today I’m in Jaisalmer and yesterday was Cardamom Coffee. Gosh, I don’t think I’ve sniffed or worn Jaisalmer in years. My bottle has been very neglected!
That’s great news about your event and catching up on sleep. I hope that you can continue to rest this week (all the rain will probably help enforce coziness☔️) and enjoy your well deserved long weekend😊 You also smell fabulous.
Thank you! The rain definitely makes for a cozy feeling, but I’m happy to see we should have a rain free day tomorrow and that Friday should be pretty nice.
Oh good!☀️
Yay for the big meeting being over!
Congratulations on your big event going off well! You’ve definitely earned some R & R.
Thank you!
Congrats on the event going well and on it being over!!!
Thanks!
Glad the stress has subsided!
Phew, me too!
Glad that the event is over! I hope you can take some time to decompress. Spray on and keep on smelling fabulous!
Thanks! I’m switching it up to another incense perfume tonight, Adorem by Nez. This will be my first time trying it.
Adorem is wonderful.
Well, I turned my head and forgot I was going to put on perfume last night. So I still haven’t tried Adorem. But soon!
Hello all!
I’m in a different region entirely in my Ambre Narguile to go with the rain today. I used to really dislike this one but at some point it became nostalgic for me. I still remember having one of those long impractical dabber samples wayyyy back when. It really is one of the only ambers I like for more than an hour.
Today should be pretty chill though I do have some calculus to do and a lab report to write.
Have a great day everyone!
Ha, a day with calculus in it would not be pretty chill to me but glad it is for you!
I’m wearing Agent Provocateur this morning, which works for the CP as it has saffron.
I love AP. 😍 You smell great! I might have to spritz this one today. I have an OLD bottle, and I’m happy to report it hasn’t gone off with age.
The original AP is lovely. I also liked some flankers.
Agent Provocateur is so good and so inexpensive!
I love AP too, but sometimes I do get whiffs of the “perm solution” note that some folks have complained about and it makes me worry about what it smells like to other people (I have the same worry with Miel de Bois, which I love, but…)
Wearing Crabtree and a Evelyn Extrait of Mysore Sandalwood from the bottle that belonged to my father, so must be from the 1980s. It’s election day on Saturday for a new prime minister and I will go and vote later . The country has swung to the right in recent years, since Jacinda Ardern departed, so the polls have been interesting.
Happy Voting!
The Netherlands will have elections in November (general elections) and Luxembourg had elections this past weekend. I will be voting by letter in the Netherlands as I’m not entitled/allowed to vote in Luxembourg.
That must be one precious bottle, both because of the memories and just for its age.
You smell absolutely fantastic! The C&E Mysore Sandalwood was a masterpiece, IMHO
And happy voting!
For the CP…some spice in Ambre Loup
Sprayed with abundance after the library….or else I would compete with the scent of the library books!
Great idea for tomorrow!
SOTD is the first thing I grabbed. ELdO Eau de Protection it is.
More rose perfumes for you this week, I see.
I was intending to do that. It’s just what I grabbed today😊
I meant wasn’t intending to do that.
I’m doing another NV, today’s choice is Trayee which actually was the first NV I bought in Antwerp years ago.
One of the things I miss in Luxembourg is lack of access to nice perfume shops. Antwerp had one, Brussels several and I was within a two hour drive to one of the best perfume shops in Wevelgem, Belgium. Not a serious problem, though I do miss Antwerp at times.
Place Vendome in Wevelgem is wonderful indeed.
Any perfume shop recommendations for Bruges? I’ll be there in December (without a rental car, but happy to take a taxi for as far away as a taxi will take me)
No, I’m afraid not. Stunning city though even the touristy bits.
Mind you, Wevelgem is only a 40 minute drive from Bruges and Place Vendome is easily one of the best perfume shops I’ve ever visited. But using a taxi would be expensive. Alternatively you could take a train to Wevelgem which would take you to Gent as well. Gent is very nearly as stunning as Bruges and much more dynamic.
Going into work a little later, again. But I am in Coco today.
Hope it was a good day Dawn.
I’m wearing Ashoka on another rainy day. Baked yesterday so I am fixed for bread over the next week.
I baked bread yesterday too!
I am in Miller Harris Feuilles de Tabac, a nice smokey scent for autumn.
Wishing you all a lovely day.
Hope your day was lovely too NinaV!
Finally got a bit more sleep last night so I’m feeling less strung out. The house is a disaster since I’ve been gone for six months and during that time the house was tented for termites so the whole kitchen/pantry had to be emptied and everything was put back in a disorganized jumble. I have just enough energy to go to the grocery store and do some laundry plus a bit of tidying, but I am not going to push myself to do it all in a week like I normally would. Wearing Trudon Mortel.
The mess will be there later. Catch up on sleep and regain your strength. My adorable hubby can always tell when I am really feeling better from some illness, when he sees me starting to tidy up more than just a path from the recliner to the microwave. 🙂
Bletch, termites. Hope those are gone for good!
ITA with meredifay. Take it easy and gather your strength. The mess can be dealt with later, when you are in a better headspace.
Clutter gives me anxiety, but I’m too tired to fix it all right now…
I hope you can transition easily back into the house. Do you have any perfumes there?
Oh yes, tons. After I’ve been gone for six months though I can’t remember where everything is though. 🙂
Wonderful! It will be a fun discovery.
You have enough on your plate, so hope you get plenty of rest and let it all get done it its own good time.
I missed the CP again today with Snowy Owl, which I enjoy very much! I have Friday’s choice nailed already, so I am going easy on myself this week. Have the best possible day for the circumstances in which you find yourselves!
Snowy Owl is so lovely! I just get such a kick out of the Zoologist line in general.
Trying BORNTOSTANDOUT Sugar Addict today…that was copied and pasted from Fragrantica so don’t blame me for yelling. 😉
Somewhat aromachemically in the opening but that died down quickly and getting a burnt vanilla w/ cinnamon.
I used to not care about trying all the new releases but something in me changed and lately I have been all about what’s new at Luckyscent. #NotAshamedButAlsoNotProud of my covetous nature ehaeheh 😉
And I just found a big pack of the dabber samples which I am quite positive I have not even tried. These would have been at least 3 years old, if not longer. Also, I found some really nice looking decants with no evaporation whatsoever, also from the same timeframe.
An absolutely gorgeous sunny Autumn day here. I took advantage of it by going for a walk this afternoon. Took care of a few tasks today, but nothing like yesterday’s frenzy of activity.
PSA: Korres now has a rather nice looking Advent Calendar on their website. Not horribly expensive, either.
SOTD = Korres Grecian Gardenia Body butter on my shins. I have a few contenders for Friday, but will probably make up my mind at the last possible moment.
It was a beautiful cloudless blue sky and perfect temps. I walked to Wegmans again today because one has to be in it to win it!
Speaking of Advent Calendars, I am half debating if I should return the Lego x Marvel calendar but I may just have convinced myself to keep it. That said, I really think this is the year of advent calendars! Everywhere I turn around, it seems that there is something new out there. The Peanuts one is calling my name but I must resist!
A Peanuts Advent Calendar sounds very hard to resist!
I got the Bonne Maman jam one last year and it was too much for me!
Hi all, posting late in lavish sprayings of Slowdive, but also somewhat sweaty after a 3-hour professional workshop/meeting in a hot, crowded room. Hoping my perfume added something pleasant to the ambiance, and that the extra coffee and croissants occasioned by the meeting were a good idea. I do wish I could drink coffee all day, and still sleep…
Yay for perfume!
I have to watch when I have caffeine, too. If it’s too late in the day I will have a terrible night of sleep, guaranteed. 😠
Ooh, you smell amazing! You definitely added loveliness to the ambiance.
I’m joining lucasai and Kris in rose today. I’m on a PdN kick this week, so I’ve got Rose Pivoine on one wrist and Rose Royale on the other. Both pretty in their own way.
Mr. Vee’s aunt is visiting his parents this week, so they all came to our place for lunch today and it was lovely to have a mid-week, mid-day visit.
Drinking Clippership Earl Grey today as a bit of a reset for my first full day home in a week. The windows are open, I’ve got a sandalwood candle burning, and the autumn weather is perfect. Now I need to go choose a book from this weekend’s recommendations and cozy up on the couch.
Ha! I was thinking of rose for today too and as it turned out, Superstitious has rose in it.
Sounds like a good day!
IIRC, PdN Rose Royale was a very pretty rose perfume that smelled pink to me.
To me it smells like a red rose, but a lighter one — an english one that is still blooming in the garden, not a cut rose in a bouquet
Rose Royale is lovely. You smell great!
SOTD = Frederic Malle Superstitious
Woot! The name alone makes me think of eastern mystical trope.

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes for my niece’s recovery. I really hope her knee heals well; she was born with the blood disorder and the hope is that she continues to manage it well.
So I got a thing in the mail that looked suspiciously like the mail-in ballot for the local election. Indeed it was. I normally would drop it off in the dropbox by the police station or into a mailbox but decided to just mail it like regular mail. The universe must be telling me something because it looked like it was chewed on by an animal. Anyway, I have to decide what to do next as I got rid of the paper that came with it. I’m sure I can find out what to do but oh what a pain!
Smelling great today!
Very late this evening. I wore The Cotswold Perfumery Neroli today, fresh and lovely and tonight it is vintage Aromatics Elixir.
AE in vintage form is perfection!
So glad you like it too, it has a note the current one lacks.
I enjoy the current version of Aromatics Elixir very much, so I can only imagine how good the vintage smells.
The modern is very good too but the vintage has a note that makes it special, not sure which one.
I’m later than late. We were gone all weekend, celebrated Thanksgiving and a birthday on the same day. Got home yesterday after minimal sleep this weekend; went out to pick up a few things for the new house – paper towel holder and shower curtains. Who knew we’d have such differing opinions? Today we packed and purged more things; we have different zones/piles both upstairs and down.
I wore my Oil Perfumery Hypnotic Poison today since I needed a fairly calm scent. Heading back out tomorrow for a few days to the new house. I just received my first Lush Kitchen box so I think I’ll take it with me so I can have something fun to look forward to.
How exciting! I had fun setting up my new place this summer. After six months I feel nice and settled in.
CP points today, in Bengale Rouge. What a great fragrance it is! So different from my usual florals and greens, and I love it.
I love Champaca by Ormonde Jayne…also their Nawab of Oudh from region/ruler/province in aindia (?) spicy, green notes, tea , amber rose jasmine is gorgeous
