Gucci A Floral Verse ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2023 5 Comments

Gucci has launched A Floral Verse, a new unisex fragrance in The Alchemist's Garden collection.

Celebrating nature’s mysterious harmonies, A Floral Verse embraces the interplay of light and darkness, gracefully capturing nature’s poetic journey from dusk to dawn, showcasing an alluring combination of India’s Jasmine Sambac and Sri Lanka’s Black Tea. Manufactured using alcohol made from 100% recycled carbon emissions, each layer of this fragrance unravels like a poem, inviting the senses on an enchanting journey.

Additional notes for the green floral fragrance include white musk.

Gucci A Floral Verse is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, $384.

I suppose I should applaud the use of recycled alcohol in perfumes but somehow the description of it here as derived from carbon emissions does not make me feel very positive about how this will smell.

It should not be part of the “smell description”, agree, but I think brands are now desperate to appear green.

Well, it is organic bits that gives alcohol flavor and scent, so a good cleaning distilling round or two or however many would hopefully leave any heavier half burned hydro carbon chains behind at some point. I would think it would be easier to clean up stack emissions, than the juice from some vat of barley or potatoes infected with yeast strains contaminated by fungi… Ugh. I recall the few years I spent in biochem labs as an unending series of contamination events, interspersed with short periods when everyone else left the lab and I had it to myself. When one of the other Tech’s wife had a baby, nothing went right for months afterwards.
I am more concerned about the presentation of this as a “floral Journey” when the notes are apparently jasmine, black tea, and “musk.” If they want floral, why dilute the jasmine with fermented tea and some probably synthetic musks and not even mention any other flower? Uh oh, I think I need to eat some lunch! I guess what they describe is just nothing like what I initially imagined looking at that bottle…I was like, hyachinths and violet leaves, some apple and cherry blossoms, wild bergamot and mint leaves, linden and raspberry leaves, late roses and yarrow, some hay… oh well, I have too much time on my hands, I better go wash dishes or something…

I would have to see it IRL, but that pea-green color of the bottle is not making me wanna buy it! 🤢
Not that was ever a danger – this is one of those lines I just decided to never bother with. Money saved (and lots of it!)

I think the bottles are adorable…maybe this one is not the best of the colors but it doesn’t bother me. But, I am apparently not motivated to try them either. I’ve never smelled a single one, and there’s not much point given the price.
