It's Almost-Friday, National Peach Pie Day, National Waffle Day, International Strange Music Day and Pluto Demoted Day. Literary birthdays: Max Beerbohm, Jean Rhys, Jorge Luis Borges, A.S. Byatt, Paulo Coelho de Souza, Oscar Hijuelos. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm copying LizzieB yesterday, in Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto.
Reminder: 8/25 is National Banana Split Day. Do whatever you like with the theme!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

A lovely late summer day, nip of fall is in the air! Hilarious to read about pumpkin spice scented trash bags. I’m wearing an end of summer fragrance, Écorce Verte (green bark). Will move into fall scents very soon, my favorite perfume season! Guerlain Tobacco Honey should be available in the next couple of weeks.
Perfume names sound so much better in French! Green bark just doesn’t sound appealing.
You smell good, Robin!
Not very CP oriented here….Shalimar Eau de Cologne. I wear this during warmer months but when it’s less warm. Today is a bit gloomy. Lots of sprays, which will tone down so I won’t be quite as wafting when I head to the market later. Wondering how busy it will be…I think we are going to see some winding down soon.
Pulled out my Black Perfecto EdT to try one of these days as a comparison to the EdP.
Shalimar twins
I am in Ann Gerard Perle de Mousse, completely unrelated to the CP.
But smelling beautiful!
Copying Robin from yesterday in Vanille Galante, which to my nose is more of a banana-pink jasmine soufflé than a vanilla scent. Love, love, love. And oh, peach pie day — if only! I haven’t been able to get as many peaches this summer as usual, but I’m planning a run up to my favorite peach farm next week and intend to basically give them all my money.
Hope that you get some great peaches!
Just got Malle’s email that Heaven Can Wait is now available. Sounds good, and like less of a powerhouse than some of their others. It’s been about 5 yrs or so since I bought an En Passant travel spray–looks like the price for that size has increased by at least $10 since then.
Will manage some Eau d’Hadrien today.
It does sound good, can’t wait to hear comments from people who have tried it.
I’m wearing CK One. Fragrantica says it has a pineapple note so I’m on track for the CP, not that I can actually smell pineapple. This is such a good summer scent! It’s a small vintage splash bottle and had I been thinking, I would have put it in the fridge last night. It is the last day of the heatwave here.
Last day here too and I’m glad!
Hello.
I agree. You smell great Robin!
SOTD is Chanel Le Lion. 2 dabs on the arm and on the neck. I am working my way through the Exclusif Discovery Set and I wonder which will win and end up on my wish list (Boy, Beige and Lion are top contenders but I try to give everyone a fair trial. lol).
I think I will copy your sotd today.
Shalimar today , one spray of the original and one of the tonka flanker.
Yesterday we met my with my oldest’s teacher. She, will be going into the third grade this year.
Tomorrow is my first day back to the volunteering at the library after taking vacation. I am trying to prepare myself today.
Third grade already for your oldest?!? Wow. Time flies!
I know.
Time flies
I found a sample of Dryad, so I put that on. Unfortunately, it has already disappeared, forty minutes later.
That was fast! You are probably on your 2nd or 3rd scent of the day by now, I am so late.
Bulgari Omnia today. So creamy-smooth and delicious.
Agree! Love Omnia
“Love Omnia” should be a perfume name!
SOTD Jean Patou Sira des Indes for the CP.
Very busy day at work, so back to read comments later. Happy Thursday! 🌻
I am so tempted to buy this unsniffed, it’s still available for cheap at discounters.
Don’t work too hard!
I would classify this as non-safe to buy blind!(although that’s exactly what I did,and the decision was a good one!)
The best banana-ylang-ylang fest in my collection!
I understand JB’s caution, affirm that Sira was a happy blind buy for me, and would say that the bottle I have is subtle. But the florals and the banana are there in an a-PEEL-ing way.
Hmm…still considering. My collection is short on fruit.
🤣👍
I’ve been tempted by Sira des Indes too. But I have so many perfumes already that I haven’t pulled the trigger.
I love Sira des Indes. I got my first bottle as a blind swap and never regret it. I have a large decant now, and I am seriously considering another full bottle. It is a very good cheap scent. The banana note is prominent on my skin.
Not a lot of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or cherry in my collection, I’m afraid. The closest thing I own is Indochine, which always reminds me of the banana macadamia pancakes my parents and I used to have at a hotel in Hawaii. This morning I’m in Escale a Portofino for its almond note (even though peanuts or walnuts are apparently more common on sundaes) in a very lame attempt at CP-ness.
Oh, you are reminding me of the delicious coconut pancakes I used to have at a breakfast place near the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu. Yum yum!
Hawaii makes the best breakfasts!
Poor demoted Pluto!
Imaginary Authors In Love With Everything today, which I see as being in the spirit of the CP if not precisely on task. I do have a pack of chocolate perfume samples from last winter, but didn’t have time to dig for it in the box this morning. The IA sample set is on my counter because it’s new.
Fingers crossed, next week the glass will be put in so we’ll have a mirror in one washroom and the shower in the master bath, the new vanity lights will arrive (had to exchange…long story), and the cabinets will be done. And then I’ll be able to unpack my perfumes! This weekend I’ll be painting woodwork…I love the person who did the work on the washrooms, but he took me a bit too literally when I pointed out that the door hadn’t been painted and was a much yellower white than the walls. He painted the back of the door, but not the woodwork that also didn’t match!
Yay for having a finished bathroom and unpacking your perfumes!
So close, and yet so far on your renovation!
Biarritz.
My glasses steamed up when I walked out the front door this morning. It is THAT humid out. Just gross. We broke records yesterday, and I’m sure we will again today. Better weather is on the way tomorrow. Thank gosh!
Today is my Friday and then I’m on vacation until September 5. Woo hoo!🎉 I am heading up north this Saturday to spend a few days of r and r. Really looking forward to it.😎
My glasses steamed up too!
Have a super great vacation!
Thanks lillyjo!😁
Bonnes vacances and enjoy the cooler weather! We’ve had a mercifully cool August.
Thanks! I feel like our entire summer has been hot!
My glasses did not steam up, but my body did as I got some light garden work done early today! The heat is not *so* bad here in Southern Indiana, but we are in *thick* humidity.
Yeah, thick is a good description. Although….it did feel slightly less worse today.
Ugh, I *hate* steamy glasses weather! Sending the Midwest NST folks some cooler and drier weather vibes.
Thanks Jalapeno! It is supposed to cool down tomorrow, thankfully.
I’m wearing Felanilla which has some banana wood somewhere so I’m more or less cp compliant. Just three more weeks of work till my holiday. I’m looking forward to it.
Oh, yes, I do get banana there too…should pull that out. You smell great!
You smell wonderful!
In Prada Iris Absolue, perfect for a day in the office.
Wish that one was still being made.
Yesterday afternoon’s and evening storm was wild and I thought we would lose electricity but didn’t. We lost electricity this morning and won’t get it back until 2. That is what our electricity company says. It’s probably a downed branch. Wearing Eau Premiere today.
There are still an unusual number of trees falling around here, quite some time after our last big storm.
I’m in Cherry Vanilla Ambrosia by Solstice Scents for the CP. I do like it, but it’s not been super cherry or vanilla forward so far. It’s been more like a spiced amber gourmand.
I’m saving Vanille Galante for tomorrow since we’ve had a bit cooler weather, and tomorrow will be the warmest day of the week.
I have not decided what I will wear tomorrow and I’d better figure it out soon…
Continuing.my Nishane exploration with Fan your flames today.Love the name, the scent is a cedar-tobacco affair.LoveLove.Yesterday I was in Tuberoza…another fb contender.I told myself I’m only allowed one fb of each brand I adore from now on.The Nishane decision will be hard!
XO’s
Oh,and coconut in the mix as well.Fan your flames is PRETTY!!
Good luck choosing one from each brand !
It’ll be a fun challenge at least!
😉🌹
I’ve heard that Nishane makes a lot of lovely perfumes. Good luck picking a favorite!
Today Durga, tuberose extreme, with, apparently a melon note which some people detest, but which I don’t get at all, but it makes me CP adjacent, if not totally compliant.
Tomorrow I plan to wear DSH’s ode to Iris Gris, which is peachy!
I need to figure out what I’m going to wear tomorrow! I like your plan.
Continuing my split/swap theme for the CP with Yves Saint Laurent vintage Y Parfum. What an awesome swap that was! 😍
You smell wonderful! Shout out and thank you, Portia T., for your review and lemming…
Pondering dinner, most likely new potato salad.
I was in Nuxe prodigieux le parfum layered over the oil but tonight it’s Bouquet du Trianon which has a distinct honey note.
Is your potato salad a warm one or a cold one?
I just had a snack of potato salad with whitefish caviar.
I’ve never heard of warm potato salad.
German potato salad here in the States is a warm potato salad. The dressing is made with bacon grease.
It weirded me out the first time I had it, since I was used to the cold, mayo-based potato salads.
Cold 😀
Just wanted to do something easy, light and mainstream I guess today. Went with Marc Jacobs Daisy as I always get compliments on it,
Daisy is a favorite of one of my friends. She still speaks fondly of the bottle I gave her at her wedding shower. It’s been long thunked.
Oh, I think I have thunked a few of them. It’s another one of those that at first I hated and then later learned to love.
SotD L’Arte di Gucci edt. I still have a few spritzes left in a fortuitous find at an antique mall, and it is truly a one-spritz wonder. *This* close to caving on an FB for the crazy prices on Ebay, and I have to admit there are some notes that likely have gone South on something this old. BUT People: it was so fabulous as I did my pre-sunrise garden work today. The humidity here just added to the scent bubble, and it lasted through tomato musk and a couple arm wash-ups after some plant care and repotting. Will re-up post-shower for the usual Thursday Mexican restaurant outing.
Lucky you, finding that bottle of L’Arte di Gucci!
It only had about 4mls left, so I think the lady was just selling the lovely bottle. I did not know it would make me fall in love – I thought, “oh something else to sample and then a fun empty bottle to display.” Little did I know…
I’m wearing Diptyque Eau Duelle today for the luscious slightly boozy vanilla.
I considered that yesterday but couldn’t find it! Maybe it will turn up tomorrow morning but not counting on it.
Did you ever notice how years go by and you ignore a fragrance until you have it and then it’s everything you see and want?
How did Bal d’ Afrique just waft by me until it was gifted?
Now it’s like a drug. Oh no, that would need to be in the Killian Narcotics section.
Robin I am so sorry, I don’t know why my comments are duplicated.
apsara: I had that problem, and it had to do with my mouse. The right click was clicking with the left – may have been user error, or a bit of pretzel caught between the clickers! 🙂
Which BK narcotic do you love ?
I don’t know why either, but no need to apologize!
Jackhammers started digging up parts of the sidewalk on my street at 7:30 this morning. Concrete repairs have been going on in my neighborhood for most of August. Hopefully this is the last of it.
Rainy afternoon. Bleh.
SOTD = commando, except for Bliss’ Lemon & Sage body butter. This is definitely getting thunked. Just not sure when.
Ugh, I hate it when construction goes on so early. In the office, an Operating Committee member must approve non-working hours construction. Is peons had to live with bowling alley type noises for a while.
Fortunately, the jackhammer(s) started at the far end of my street. So the worst of the noise wasn’t up close and personal until later on in the morning. Then the house was shaking!
I feel your pain. My building, the building 4 houses down and my street have been under construction all summer. The noise and the dust have been incredible.
Oy vey! All summer! That sucks.
I don’t know what’s worse, the noise or the vibration. Hopefully it doesn’t continue too long.
The jackhammering was done by lunchtime. The guys poured cement this afternoon in the places that were torn up. Dunno how long they will block off the new concrete.
Getting the roof replaced was much worse.
We back up on a construction site — have for the last two years and will for the next 3. We’re a half block from a new subway station, and the concrete trucks line up and back up outside our house starting at 7 a.m. Grr. So I feel your pain.
This morning it was the groundskeepers (possibly parents) at the Catholic school behind my house, repairing something with power tools, too.
I’m surprised at how early some projects start.
Sorry to hear that you are stuck with the early morning racket for 3 more years.
Chiming back in to say: Pluto, you will always be a planet to me!
Me too!
YES!
Yes! The demotion was messed up, right?
Right!
This made me laugh!
SOTD = Nina Ricci Nina Rouge EDT
Beautiful red bottle but the juice is a generic fruity floral.

In other news, my LUSH order arrived today. I will open the package tomorrow and try the LUSH x Barbie body spray!
Also, I heard back from the bank about my savings bonds. They are all done … I better not hear any grief from anyone …
Yay for all those savings bonds being done!
Seriously… and they made the most of the 25/day limit although I am quite sure most were done by Monday.
Yay for the savings bonds! Will watch for your review of Barbie body spray.
I will do so.
Glad you are getting your money and the body spray!
Thanks. There was no question I would get my money; it was a matter of when. I am looking forward to trying out the body spray.
I’m sitting here waiting on some storms wearing Le Lion. Earlier I went to Ulta and tested the new Chance eau fraiche edp. It was so bright, fresh and green smelling.. until the ambroxan came through. I feel disappointed in Chanel.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words yesterday. This community really means so much to me.
So the Chance Eau Fraiche EdP is a big old NOPE for you.
There is an Ulta near Macys at Herald Square. Somehow, I have only been there once.
I’m wearing Bon Perfumer 402 today, so my banana split has vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and sliced almonds (which sounds like a tasty version to me). The texture of 402 seems fluffy to me, so I’ll add some whipped cream to that banana spilt.
Today’s tea was F&M’s Fortmason. I love the flavor, but the unmistakable orange blossom aroma can throw me sometimes. I think it’s that I so rarely eat/drink things with a strong orange blossom note, so my brain associates it solely with perfume and makes me think for a split second that I am about to drink perfume instead of tea. It doesn’t happen with rose, jasmine, or lavender teas, but I use those three in other foods. I guess that is a sign that I should look for recipes that use orange blossom water. Any suggestions?
Whoops! Sorry lillyjo, that wasn’t meant to be a reply
