It's Friday! Plus in Japan, it's National Mountain Day. Birthdays today: Alex Haley, Steve Wozniak, Inès de La Fressange, Joe Jackson. Our community project for today: wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm heading north today (to my sister's lake house in Massachusetts, so I'll be out of touch most of the day) in a light spritz of L'Artisan Parfumeur Passage d'Enfer.
Reminder: on 8/18, wear a fragrance that features a note that you might eat in a salad, or that you might grow in a vegetable garden...carrot? tomato? basil? rhubarb?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Demeter Incense. Can’t get much incensier than that. Or so you’d think! There no smoke to it at all, just copal resin and sweet amber. It’s really nice, if not the most compelling incense you ever smelled.
I like that one, although I think they should have put copal in the name.
I’m wearing Memo Mano, which is an opoponax bomb. Hoping that counts as incense. 🙂
It’s Manoa, and it does indeed qualify for the CP:
A relative of the myrrh tree, this species provides us with a natural oleo gum resin commonly known as sweet myrrh.
Opoponax resin adds a nice spicy-sweet, earthy aroma to any mixture.
Those for whom myrrh is too bitter and have stayed away from it, may wish to try Opoponax resin.
Opoponax resin was used in incense to protect against negative influences, and increase intuition.
I did not know it would protect against negative influences…maybe I need to buy a bushel 🙂
I realized I don’t have much in the way of incense scents, so I’m going to have to go back and look at much that was worn this week to see if I might want dive into that pool.
I have a wee decant of Coromandel I’m hoarding. Almost wore it then remembered a mini bottle of Timbuktu. So there we have it. Something new to me also…never worn this.
Went to the local classical music festival last night. New director, who is a Norwegian conductor and full of charm and good humor. Mozart, including the Jupiter symphony. Middle piece showcased two sisters on a dual piano. Just lovely. Tonight is the local summer stock doing Dames at Sea. Saturday, we may hit the county fair. Keeping busy in order to be ready for the winter hibernation.
Sounds like a great concert! Yes, do all the summer things.
So did you like the Timbuktu?
I did. It didn’t really last long, and i didn’t really get much from it after the first few moments. But that’s my nose, not the scent…
Interesting…must be one of the musks.
I went with Micallef Shanaan, because it is such a good incense scent for warm weather. It is sheer, light and radiant. There is some sweetness from resins, but just the right amount – it makes this scent happier without making it heavier.
The only complaint I have is that performance is not so good. But I do not mind reapplying.
Have not smelled that one, sounds nice.
Another cold wet day here-wearing a good choice for most summers, just not this one – Dior Escale a Portofino. Lovely citrus with good staying power, and I love its bottle.
Hopefully some sun for the weekend-I’m starting to feel a bit like a mushroom, and want to get my paddleboard out. Robin the lake house sounds divine-hope you have a great weekend. Hope everyone has a great weekend 🙂
I could have gotten on a paddleboard right away but was too tired after very long drive (traffic all through Connecticut was a mess). Luckily I had lots of episodes of a very calming podcast so I just toodled along minding my own business.
But tomorrow I will get out on the lake! Hope you will get paddling too.
Wearing Kyoto today and loving it. Calm in a bottle.
It’s been a long week. I have something wrong with my knee and overdid it, so I have been resting it with ice to get the swelling down. No more surgeries! I will get a diagnosis and some PT asap.
I had hoped that losing weight would help to relieve the arthritis I have in my lower body but no such thing, it’s still painful. I hit a new low weight this morning so that’s good news 👍
I’m done whining, have a great weekend all 🌹
I thought of that but then decided to save the rest of my sample in case a Japan-themed CP ever comes up.
We are scent twins and whine twins! I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks lillyjo.
Congrats on reaching a new low!
(And hope the knee gets better)
Congrats on the weight but I’m sorry about the knees. Arthritis is no fun. I’ve started this week to focus on losing weight…my eating habits went sideways the past year or so.
… throwing another CdG into the mix with 2 Man!
Since that was the last of my sample, I think I might need a full bottle after all …
you smell great!
In Bruma today, the only other choice I could think of is Iris Cendre, which would be too much in the humidity.
This cp makes me want to sample Kyoto–seems to be an incense favorite around here.
I do like Bruma!
Today I’m wearing Passage d’Enfer, which is about the least incense scent that I’ve worn all week.
A belated hey twin!
Wearing Halston Classic Cologne, which has incense in there in addition to a bunch of other things. I had the extrait of this once and it was truly magical, but the cologne seems to have held together fairly well too.
I’ve been on the hunt for Halston recently. You smell fantastic!
Have a great time Robin, a trip to a lake house sounds fun.
I’m wearing Bois d’Encens, thé only Armani Privé I own and the fragrance that made me love incense. It’s understated, calming and utterly beautiful and I adore it. I hope everyone has a good weekend!
I will twin with you in this beauty after a shower, austenfan. Love this one.
Robin, have a good visit with your sister. Can hardly wait to see mine.
Good it’s always nice to have a scent twin!
Bois d’Encens is indeed lovely!
Thank you, and you smell great !

This is how I sound with my new partial. Ridiculous!
My sotd is Kyoto from the sample stash. I’m enjoying it.
I plan on going to Sephora with my daughter today and sampling the new Café Rose.
I’m sorry for the adjustment to your partial but that video made me lol.
Report back on Cafe Rose, have fun!
Great video, hope you get used to the partial. Do report on Café Rose, I have the original.
Enjoy your trip, Robin!
Sotd is Black
By CdG
I think most CdG scents have incense or something smokey by default haha. I havent worn it in ages. Somehow this also works for me in warmer weather.
Yes it is suddenly warmer again here after three weeks of cooler and rainy weather.
My body really needs to adapt again,
I had a horse riding lesson this morning and i was really sweaty afterwards, and tired 😅. It was only 23 / 24 degrees (74 F) but it was very sunny, no shade and no wind at all.
It’s a beauty. With probably 40% of my collection as incense, Black is in the top five.
You smell great!!
Enjoy your trip Robin!
I am CP compliant in Portrait of a Lady. I want to see how it reacts on my skin in the summer heat.I think I better start with just a few sprays first. That may be enough😊
I think will try that experiment over the weekend.
I found out it projects pretty well with just a few sprays.
You smell lovely!
Thank you my dear.
For today’s cp, I’ve layered Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple fragrance over YR’s Neonatura Breathe edp (called Soufflé in Europe), a truly zen combo. But I’m not on my way to a yoga class but instead we’re on our way to the White Oak Folk Fest in sw WI at the White Oak Savanna farm and sanctuary. Beautiful music in a restored historic barn amidst the gently rolling hills in the unglaciated part of WI, it will truly be a zen experience, third year in a row for us.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead. ✌️☮️
That sounds like a great combo. Enjoy the Folk Fest, that sounds lovely!
Sotd is Diptyque L’Eau Trois, one of my longtime favorites and a classic incense fragrance.
I have a 1/4 of a bottle left and I bought a BUB in France but I’m a little worried that there was a reformulation and it lost some of its depth. It also could be that I prefer the “aged” version of L’Eau Trois and in that case there’s hope that the aging process will add some depth.
I found that too when I hesitantly bought my second bottle of Guerlain Vetiver Pour Elle and it all worked out OK.
Those early Diptyques were so unique, and L’Eau Trois is no exception.
Scent: Demeter Dandelion on the left, Trudon II on the right, which is CP compliant. Didn’t check until after I put it on. I rather like II, but working from a sample.
Currently cloud, but the sun is peeking through. Temps are predicted to be in the mid 80s with humidity.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
I have a travel spray of II and never realized it had an incense note! I’ll have to pay closer attention the next time I wear it.
Lightly spritzed on some Encens Mythique and it does indeed work in summer heat.
Hi, twin! I was rather bold in my spritzing, but agree it works well in the heat.
You’re smelling lovely, I love this scent in all weather too!
Tauer Incense Extreme for me, from the depths of my Tauer sample container / vat. (I have a lot of Tauer samples 🙂 )
Ockeghem Teen comes back from camp today, so I’m looking forward to all the stories after she’s been incommunicado for two weeks. (We’ve tried giving her postcards to send. She’s too busy to write to us. 🙂 )
Lucky you, I could not find my IE this week! Did find my missing Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure, so that’s something, but the top notes have gone off.
That means she’s having fun, yes! But it’s disconcerting.
Well, I could easily have done a whole week of incense — it’s a favorite note — but I just haven’t been in the mood for it. Commando at the moment other than a layer of Vacation sunscreen (and the jury is still out on the supposed “world’s best-smelling sunscreen”) and on my way to swim laps for a bit, and then I’ll be transitioning to Thé Pour Une Été for the summer gladness of it.
Mood is more important than cp points 🙂
CdG 8 88 for the incense cp.
It should have been CdG 2 Man but the sprayer is stuck,I can’t get it to push down!
8 88 is not a favorite of mine,it was a total blind buy based on the reviews from Perfumes The Guide.
Happy Friday everyone!
XO’s
Darn on the sprayer, I do like CdG 2 Man.
Hope it was a good Friday JB!
My lotion combo was a fail.
Kyoto will solve it!
My b-day is coming up and I am grasping at straws trying to come up with a gift. I literally left things to the last minute. Any new, interesting patchouli, incense, anything that might light my fire out there? I gave him a mini list, but I am rushed.
Off to get my shoulder looked at. Hope this guy is good!
Love to all!
Not new but I don’t recall if you have ever tried Coromandel? The EDP and Parfum are excellent.
Thanks and yes. I have both. You know my tastes. I’m willing to take a ride on any of your suggestions.
Oooh, what about the new Les Indemodables patchouli? I’ve been curious about it. But it’s definitely way too pricey for a blind buy.
Thanks! Good to try for a sample. Much appreciated.💜
SOTD: Incense Suede from Salvatore Ferragamo, signed by Fabrice Pellegrin. As the name suggests, it is an incense suede, connected via saffron and styrax. This may be my favourite creation from the perfumer.
I also have a decant of Testa di Moro, the re-issue of IS in the current Tuscan Creations line. They largely share the same structure but with some different nuances. I find TdM has more floral saffron, while IS with more smoky and dry bitter woodiness, esp at the beginning. I slightly prefer IS; so, it becomes my SOTD 😉
Fabrice Pellegrin is so good with incense. I’m thinking of of Nez 1+1 Adorem.
I just took a look at its pyramid and its notes seem great! Thanks for mentioning it. I will put it on my list!
I’m wearing one of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s UPCYCL/One Off scents, Incense no. 81. I usually stick to sheer roses and light fruity colognes in the summer, but incense fragrances actually do “bloom” beautifully in the heat!
Have a happy weekend, everyone.
I did not try that one, but I’m sure you smell great J 🙂
Spending some time in Lyric today. Epic didn’t have incense but Lyric does.
Oh, Lyric is so, so beautiful!
Summer/warm weather incense scents may be their own separate category. (I say “warm weather” as something purely aspirational for myself 🙁 It has crept up to only 63 degrees outside. . .) Today’s choice fits the bill: Thomas Kosmala’s Frenesie. It’s my Houston purchase, where there was real summer heat. Sigh.
My birthday is coming up too. Hope you think of something.
What is going on with your shoulder? I’ve got one shoulder replacement and the other one is pretty bad. But I”m not doing another surgery any time soon. I hope you get some relief.
This went into the wrong place by some weird mistake on the site. I swear this time it wasn’t me! However, I wanted to say that we STILL have that summer heat, come back any time you want more of it! Sigh! I didn’t realize the one you bought is or has incense. I’ll sniff it next time I go over to Kuhl-Linscomb.
I’ve been sick the past two days (not Covid, though) and haven’t worn any perfume. I’m feeling better but I’m as weak as a kitten and taking it easy. I might put on something really light, like Osmanthe Yunnan.
I hope you will feel better soon! I like to wear Ninfeo Mio when I’m not feeling my best, it’s bracing somehow.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Hope things improve quickly for you.
Oh hi Foxbins! Deva asked the other day about you. We got worried you were in Hawaii. I am sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon.
Thanks, Lillyjo.
I’m copying and wearing Passage d’Enfer too.
That makes us triplets so far 🙂
Have a relaxing time with your sister, Robin.
It was Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur, still pretending it’s summer, and tonight for the CP it’s Merchant of Venice Mystic Incense, I was looking forward to wearing Encens Flamboyant but Mystic Incense is very good too, it’s a sweet incense and I didn’t have anything like this.
That’s Aurora! I am pretty relaxed already…it is always good to get away.
Safe travels, Robin! For the CP win, Encens Mythique D’Orient. I mostly get rose, saffron/ambergris, and a sweet woodiness. Like my twin AnnieA, I find it is working very well in the heat.
Thanks MossyBerry!
In Sideris for today’s project
I should pull mine out! You smell wonderful.
Please describe!
You smell great!
Trying Solstice Scents Iced Wisteria today. Notes are…Wisteria Ice Cream, Waffle Cone, Tahitian Vanilla, Sugar Cone, Lilac Infused Sugar.
Yesterday I sampled Iced Nectar and loved it…will get a FB when it’s back in stock. Beware for any vanilla-phobes…lots in that one. 😉
I am so ready for vacation next week and just trying to get through the workday unscathed. 😅 Lots of drama at work in the past couple weeks…have to think of new ways to combat stress that aren’t walking or buying perfume… 🧐
… but these are the best kinds of de-stressors!
Ooh, that Iced Wisteria sounds wonderful
You’ve chosen another very nice photo for today, Robin.
I saved the best for last this week: Amouage Opus VIII from the Library collection. As expected, it has olibanum, along with a great mix of other notes such as jasmine and ylang-ylang, plus some ginger and saffron…. and more. In reading about it I just found out that Guaiac Wood is also called Palo Santo. I never knew that before. This scent is pretty heavy-duty and I almost didn’t wear it today but then the thought of it kept occupying my mind so much that I had to. We’ll see how it does when I go out in the 102 degree heat to pick up a few groceries for the weekend. Wish me luck!
Next week’s CP sounds like a lot of fun. I believe I am somewhat unusual among perfume people in not loving perfumes with notes of either tomato leaf or geranium. In the garden, I sniff them with great pleasure, but please not in my perfumes! I wonder if we can include all kinds of fruit and tree notes too? peaches plums apples resins needles? tree blossoms? I’d better re-read that CP.
Ah, good, I just re-read the CP and it specifies the VEGETABLE garden. I’m glad I checked. Now I feel like the silly student when the professor tells him or her “It’s on the syllabus!”
My original intention was the kinds of summer meals you’d make from the garden but I did not specify so much. I don’t see why you couldn’t include whatever you’d put in a salad, so that could include fruit, right? You know we have no cp police 🙂
How did you do with your perfume in the heat?
Lol, I wilted but the perfume bloomed!
Seriously it is more beautifully floral. It’s just a sublime perfume.
Robin, have a great time on your getaway!
SOTD = Les Exclusifs de Chanel Coromandel EDT
The discontinued one – so excellent. I am hoping to thunk this … next year. I also have other formulations which I really should wear! I added 3 owls to hopefully distract prying AIs (eyes 🤣) from tagging my post to be removed.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv0SOKAxeEW/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I have more incense than I thought!
You thunking next year? Impressive. Collective virtual party for all thunkers!
I hope too aaaaaaannnnddd I have a BUB.
The owl on the right looks like he’s holding a monocle up to your bottle to see what’s left!
It does! I also have the brown one that hops and that seems comically more stern (sterner?)!
The owls are super cute.
Thank you hajusuuri!
I’m going to a birthday party tonight, great chance to get all dressed up, and I’m thinking a ruch perfume Jubilation 25 will be a nice final touch.
Meanwhile, I’m thinking about CdG’s Ouarzazate post-shower.
Have fun!
I forgot to wear that this week. Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow!
Chiming in a bit late today — Mr. G and I went disc golfing (well, he played; I was strictly the cheer squad) so I’m commando until after I hit the showers. If I can find my sample of Trayée, that’s what my CP-compliant SOTA will be. If not, maybe Hindu Kush. Happy Friday!
Oh my god — found my sample and am now lusting after a FB of Trayée. 😍
It’s wonderful. I have just a little left in a decant. Bertrand Duchaufour at his best.
SOTD is CDG Rouge. I love that so many of their scents have an incense note.
I’ve been feeling a bit blah today, I think it’s work stress, although the worst is over. I hope to fully veg out tonight and eat something very comforting. Have a great weekend, everyone!
You smell great in Rouge! When I first started wearing it I focused on the beetroot but lately, the incense is what catches my nose first.
I hope you have a very relaxing evening and weekend😊
I’m part of the CdG crowd in Zagorsk today. It smells so good.
I went for comfort today and had F&M Christmas black tea. Very happy to be at the end of the week after some annoying and unnecessary work drama the past few days.
Hope the weekend is extra relaxing then Vee.
I rummaged through the deep archives for the CP and turned up a sample of Miller Harris La Fumée, which I had no idea I had. Incense to be sure, and pleasant, but I wouldn’t call it especially special.
(No idea if the formulation changed once they re-labeled it Classic.)
I have and like the original but have never smelled the Classic version. It’s hard to think that it would be very different.
I hope you have a good time with your sister, Robin. Sounds relaxing, and I hope you get the rest you need.
I’ve saved my best for last today – 10 Corso Como. I even pulled out my old vintage bottle, since I wanted to use up a new version first. Maybe the reformulation is the reason it’s not popular anymore. It’s a faint copy of the original. I had never tried an incense scent in the summer until recently, and this is lovely on a warm day.
Yesterday was Kyoto, so I had a lot of twins on different days!
Ah, so nice to see 10 Corso Como! I have not tried the new version and don’t plan to.
Late to the party but in good company in Kyoto.
Incense is one of my favorite notes and one I didn’t enjoy at first. Now I have Avignon, Kyoto, Heeley Cardinal, Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Even Gypsy Water, which reviewers describe as vanilla or citrus is incense to me.
Working a long stretch but the weekend should be lighter load. Weather is still terrible. I keep looking a forecast hoping for rain but nothing in sight.
That’s a decent incense collection! Black Cashmere is too much for me in summer, but such a great scent.
