Happy Friday, plus happy Coast Guard Day and National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. It's also Louis Armstrong's birthday. Our community project for today: scent a Louis Armstrong song. If that's too hard, wear rose for La Vie en Rose? Or wear something by Lanvin (he had a half empty bottle of some sort of Lanvin cologne on his dresser when he died).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Robert Piguet Fracas, for Louis Armstrong singing Cole Porter's Let's Do It, from the album Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson, 1959.
Reminder: on 8/11, wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Louis Armstrong and his wife Lucille in Egypt, 1961; read more in “Dig Us”: 60 Years of Louis Armstrong at the Sphinx at the Louis Armstrong House Museum. Bonus reading: Satchmo’s Wonderful World: Louis Armstrong Center Amplifies An Artist’s Vision, Louis Armstrong, the King of Queens and Louis Armstrong’s Lip Balm, all at The New York Times.
Fracas gives me some jazzy vibes for some reason. You smell wonderful, Robin!
It is hot here today (although not by Texas standards 🥵), so I am wearing Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil matching it with Go Down Moses.
The connection is Egypt, Nile and bulrush note (“aromatic rushes” according to the text on my bottle). And the whole story of Moses being found in the bulrushes in the river Nile.
Also this perfume has some incense, so it is a good transition to the next week’s CP.
It’s a bit of a period piece, Fracas 🙂
Love your cp match!
It’s so nice to see you posting here, Giannys. Thinking of you and sending ☮️ vibes and 🤗 🤗.
I went with a rose scent, a sample of Rose Oud by Nicolai. I think it’s the only Oud sample I have.
Pretty day out there, especially compared to yesterday, which was quite warm and humid. I was working at the local market and a squall went through that was amazing. High winds, torrential rain. No thunder. Parking lot was almost flooded. Half hour later, it was as if it never happened. Lot drained quickly, pavement was drying out, sun was shining. Today is far less humid and more temperate. Am glad for the visitors to our area.
That sounds like wisconsin in the summer.😊 I was up north last week, and it felt so busy everywhere.
Just got back from another week of camping and nothing but sunscreen & insect repellent. Today I’m enjoying Fève Délicieuse and listening to What a Wonderful World. 🙂
I hope you had a great week! My daughter just returned from her 30 days in Saskatchewan last week, she such a wonderful time.
It was a really good trip, despite the high number of mosquitoes. I’m happy to hear your daughter had fun too!
Hope it was a great camping trip!
It was! First time to this particular park, nice and close to Montreal (only 2 hrs away).
Ooh, what park was it? We love camping and have been wanting to get up to the Montreal area sometime.
It was the Parc de la Mauricie, a national park. They have great facilities (the shower was fabulous).
Welcome back!
Thank you!
Hello all!
Feeling rather delicious in Ambre Narguile today. No poll points unless Mr. Armstrong had a song about apple pie (or plum tarte, which I find a bit more accurate.)
Pretty chill day hopefully. I’m signed up for three labs and three lectures so here we go. My days are pretty light, though, with nice breaks for homework (or letting out Jicky.)
Have a great day!
Did not know this song!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGLRaUX2XfU
Robin to the rescue! I’ll wear my points proudly.
🍎🥧
I’m in Santa Maria Novella’s “Ottone” (Italian for “brass”) which seemed the nearest I could get to Armstrong’s trumpet playing. Plus: scentwise it’s at once suave enough and old-school enough to be able to imagine Louis Armstrong wearing it.
Oh, perfect! Nicely played.
Good call!
Rather than try to be clever or creative, I just went for the easy point: Robin mentioned roses, so I put on a blast of the cheery, straightforward Lush Rose Jam body spray.
That works! Just picked up some more of the shower gel yesterday on my first mall trip in eons.
I love the shower gel! There’s a Lush opening in the mall some time this summer — it might be open right now, I’m sitting in the food court right now and I’m about to go check, but I read it’s not opening until September — and I will probably end up getting some. It’s been ages.
It is lovely to have 🙂
I was going to wear Jazz Club, but I couldn’t find my decant So, I went for comfort in Oolong Infini.
Comfort is always good.
Going to wear Kyoto today since it was mentioned the Loius Armstrong toured in Japan. My colonoscopy found a 2cm and a 10cm polyp. Both were removed but no other polyps were found. Currently in Theorema.
Glad it’s over! You smell good today.
Echoing madtowngirl’s post and sending good wishes your way!
Hopefully you won’t have to have another colonoscopy for a while.
Thought of Louis Armstrong’s Spooks this morning so I wore Hydesville Ghost by the Gallipot Project.
Nice play!
In Ormonde Jayne Ta’if for the CP.
Very busy week at work. I am so glad the weekend is here! Happy Friday! 🌹
you smell great!
Thank you! 😊
Enjoy your weekend!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🌻
When I think of Louis Armstrong, what always comes to mind is “What a Wonderful World.” Another song with roses:
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what
A wonderful world
I will add, what a wonderful song! I’m wearing Piguet Calypso, which has a rose note, and also references a song from one of the movies he was in, “High Society Calypso.”
Can I take double points? 😁
Robin, this was a very fun project! I enjoyed reading up on Armstrong and finding clips of his music and movies, plus reading others’ creative comments.
Hoping everyone has a great weekend!
You smell lovely and are definitely in multiple CP point territory🥇😊
Thanks, allo! 🤗
“What A Wonderful World” is what immediately comes to my mind for Louis Armstrong too.
Glad you liked it!
I’m wearing En Voyage Go Ask Alice for Louis’ penchant for marijuana, finding it better than whiskey.
I’m wearing Arquiste Ella for obvious reasons. I know next to nothing about jazz music (mostly not a fan) but really enjoy Armstrong’s rendition of Mack the knife. I’m much more familiar with the German original which has one of my favourite German quotes: “denn ein Haifisch ist kein Haifisch wenn man’s nicht beweisen kann.”
Nice choice!
Thanks!
Thanks for quoting the line, which I hadn’t even realized existed and with which you just sent me down quite a rabbit hole! Such a pity one hardly ever hears anything but the shorter six-verse version of Mackie Messer – although at some point I must have come across one of longer version as well, since the mention of gloves in one of the additional verses did seem to ring a bell.
My parents had a recording of the Dreigroschenoper with Lotte Lenya plus a small book with all the lyrics. Another treasured line is: “Und mann sieht nur die im Lichten die im Dunklen sieht mann nicht.”
Perfect choice!
Thanks!
Not really related so much, but for anyone who has never heard Lyle Lovett’s Moritat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lEKcJ52xF8
Thanks, Robin!
Sorry Ringthing this was not meant to be here.
I found my bottle of Arpège for the Lanvin/Louis connection. What a beauty! I have a little bottle of vintage extrait but I think it’s currently in storage. A more current version of the EdP is still amazingly good.
Oh, you smell so good! Love Arpege.
Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald did a wonderful duet of “Dream a Little Dream,” one of my favorite songs. I love Mama Cass, but compared to Ella’s phrasing and interpretation, she sounds like an amateur doing the song. So today I’m wearing Goutal Songes.
Fox in’s, how are you liking your purple hair?
I love it now that it’s faded to violet. The initial purple was too dark and made me look yellow! But my natural gray doesn’t want to hold on to the color, so it is going fast.
Yep, grey hair does not take and hold color well. I’m glad you’re liking it! 💜
I’m in Byredo Gypsy Water from my new little cutie I picked up from Nordstrom (rack) yesterday. I went through a sample of this years ago, but I’d forgotten how good it is. I think I’ll go through this 8 mls in no time.
I had a massage first thing this morning. Oh how I love the massage therapist that I’ve found.🥰 Today she asked if she could work on my chakras, and I was like yes! Please! Left there feeling so good. Plus, the sun’s out.🌞
Oh, nice Nordstrom Rack find!
Yay for a nice massage!
Well, to tie in with the mention of What a Wonderful World”, I say (we say) perfume makes the World Wonderful. And so I continue with my Vetiver Pour Elle streak…
Brilliant! Vetiver pour Ella as a companion to Vetiver pour L(o)ui(s) 😊.
Zingy!
Amouage Lyric Woman for the cp!
I think it ties in nicely, sultry smoky jazz-club vibes, plus the “lyrics” to What a wonderful world is so simple and elegantly beautiful, and probably known worldwide.
Happy Friday!
Went in for an emergency theatre case,I hope it’s the first and the last for the weekend.I’m coming down with a cold of sorts,so not feeling my usual fabulous self.
XO’s
Hope the emergency got taken care of quickly and you can regain your healthy fabulousness. Haven’t smelled Lyric, but the name is apropos.🌹
Luckily yes,we were busy for about an hour or so,repairing a detached retina.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you T!🌹🤗
Hope you are feeling more fabulous soon, JB.
Thank you ringthing!Off to bed in a bit, hope to sleep it off(🤞🏻🤞🏻)
I appreciate you all so much!❣️❣️🌹🤗
I hope you feel better soon! You still smell good.
I was hoping you’d wear Lyric as well today!Haha!🌹
At work today and not destroying one of my favs.
Ah okay, hope your day is good!🤞🏻🤞🏻🤗
Feel better soon, J B! 👋🏻🌹🌻💕
Thank you M!🤗
Adding feel better wishes, too! 🤗🎶🌻🌝🌹
Thank you Laila!Your happy comment made me smile!
🤗🤗
Back atcha from my three 😸😺😻
Boo hiss for picking up a bug! Feel better soon.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thought Patou’s Joy would be appropriate for this cp…that 3.4 oz bottle I picked up at an estate sale is bountiful!
Did you see Prada’s come out with a beauty line? The lipstick case is covetable:
https://www.prada-beauty.com/makeup/prada-monochrome-soft-matte/MPL01634.html
I love my bottle of Joy, that i bought for cheap at TK Maxx, great choice
I saved my vintage extrait of Lanvin Arpege for today. The packaging is a tube with a twist on cap and says that it’s meant to be a refill for extract tester bottle and is not for sale. As much as I love to get vintage perfumes in their bottles, I also enjoy these odds and ends sample and tester materials. It feels like insight to the perfume industry of the past.
And you smell wonderful!
Thank you!
SorD is Jasmin Rouge by Tom Ford
Uplifting scent for an uplifting song
Let’s do it… let’s fall in love
You smell great!
Excellent choice!
I chose Fox in the Flowerbed for the CP, because jasmine always makes me think of New Orleans jazz. Hey, happy Friday everyone!
Nice choice! I love Fox.
Thanks — me too! 🙂
Fox in the Flowerbed seems to be the runaway favorite from Imaginary Authors here.
I’m wearing Initio Side Effect from a split. No clue if it fits the CP in any sort of way, but it was the perfect thing before bed last night.
Happy friYAY!
I do like this one as well, you smell nice!
I’m in a sample of Nishane EGE / ΑΙΓΑΙΟ for its licorice, anise, mint and other herbal notes, to try to mimic the ingredients of Swiss Kriss herbal remedy, which Mr. L.A. was apparently very fond of using and sending to his fans. <– Something that I learned this week and find very amusing and endearing.
Tea today is Chocolate Puer because yum.
Seconding AnnE's comment — I really enjoyed the CP this week and using it as a opportunity to learn more about Mr. L.A.
He even sat for a Swiss Kriss ad: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/louis-armstrong-trumpet-life-music-b1876149.html
Today was a good day for a tea like your Chocolate Puer.
So glad!
Wearing Lanvin Eau My Sin today. Happy Friday, everyone.
Went to the beach Wednesday and yesterday. We recently discovered parking there (when we visited with my hubby’s nephew) as it was nearby his condo. Even took the floaties out and brought a simple lunch of quinoa salad along. Being in the lake was so refreshing and a nice change from the heat!
Big YAY for finding parking near the beach!
It really was!
I went with the easy choice of a Rose perfume. As it was still cool and grey i dug out Lady Rose Lion from the back of the cabinet. This is a perfume that i learned to like, i took a few trys until i could appreciate it. I even made it to the gym after in the evening, will have sore muscles tomorrow for sure….
The sore muscles are worth it! I overdid it on the kettle balls & am feeling it tonight 🙂
For today’s cp I’m celebrating the many blues’ songs in Armstrong’s repertoire in my SOTD, Eau Des Merveilles Bleue. A rare blind buy for me, I finally treated myself to this after wanting it for a long time. First time wearing it and I’m lovin’ it – you can smell the original EdM DNA, but a bit more woody and marine. I’m not fond of beachy scents but I do love fragrances with salt notes that remind me of the sea, rocky cliffs, and driftwood on the shore. This hits all those notes for me, great for summer! And, yes, I’d certainly wear this if I had a chance to go back to New Orleans! Been there once and loved it.
Going to one of the few remaining outdoor concerts tonight; I’ll be sorry to see them end but other than those and my afternoons at the pool I’m ready for fall, really tired of heat and humidity and a/c, too. A quiet weekend ahead with hopefully much time spent gardening – can’t believe how many weeds there are! Wishing everyone a nice weekend ahead 🎶
You smell great!
Thank you!
EdM Bleue is a rare thing: an aquatic perfume that I like! And the 1oz bottle is beyond cute.
It doesn’t seem ‘aquatic’ to me but instead ‘marine,’ which I think of differently, more sea-like, salty, minerally.
You smell great. EdMB is more mineral than salty to me.
Lots of folk have mentioned Joy this week, I don’t have that, but I do have 1000. In fact, I have even have a BUB, so that’s my choice for today.
Perfect!
I was going to wear Lanvin Arpège but in the end I chose Jardin de Bagatelle, the white flowers evoking New Orleans for the CP, tonight it’s Les Néréides Oriental Lumpur, spice and all things nice, it’s as enjoyable as Imperial Opoponax.
Hi Aurora. I did see your comment about the new vs old versions of Eau de Patou. Would you mind giving a brief overview of them?
They’re very close, both beautiful citrus, the vintage a little bit brighter and tarter and the drydown of the vintage lasts longer but that’s to be expected. Overall the new Eau de Patou is quite faithful to the original.
I’ll bet Oriental Lumpur smells wonderful.
I like it so much, one of my best spicy perfumes.
I’m joining a few of you in Lanvin Arpege today. I recently discovered it, thanks to Vee, and I love it! 😍
You’re a decent sized group now!
https://youtu.be/Twv7z0_STCM
I’m wearing Angel Garden of Stars Rose version. I am matching it to Dream a little Dream. This is the Eddie Vedder version.
There is a ton of work drama going on. I know it’s Friday but I can’t wait until Monday when my boss will be back from vacation and hopefully fix some things. In the meantime I will enjoy my day off tomorrow.
Wish I would have known about the Garden of Stars versions of Angel when they were around. You smell lovely today!
They sometimes pop up at the discounters still.
Would be nice to have a mini or a bottle, but I have enough perfume for a couple of lifetimes at this point. At least I found samples of them.
Ooh, I had the violet version of the stars. You smell great.
I have that one too in a mini. I like it more than the rose I think.
Enjoy your day off. Has the work drama happened, other than what your boss needs to fix?
It’s been drama all week. He’s not going to be happy when he gets back.
You smell fantastic!
Thank you!😊
Late today! Another grey gloomy day with intermittent bouts of drizzle. Bletch.
SOTD = commando, with The Body Shop’s British Rose Body Butter on my shins. I took Robin’s suggestion for a rose scent today.
We had a big thunderstorm last night. In fact it’s been quite a rainy summer, but I’m enjoying it because it cuts the heat. Hope you get some blue sky soon!
Rumor has it that the Daystar will show its face here sometime this weekend. Looking forward to it!
I can’t wait for Fall to arrive!
Not me. I just want some blue skies for a bit. The grey is getting me down.
I guess my sun hasn’t made it to you yet.
Nope, not yet.
Wore Roísín Dubh on Friday (it’s already Saturday here in Adelaide) for the rose division of the CP! Our grandson and his parents took us into the lovely Adelaide Hills for a pub lunch, a tasting at a winery, and a stroll. We are having a great visit.
So glad you are still having a great visit with the little guy! (And his parents. I lived in parentheses myself for YEARS, ha.)
SOTD = Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa
8 glorious sprays and I say I smell wonderful 🤣. I’m on theme if we consider wearing a rose-centric perfume as being with the program.

At Wegmans, I passed by limited edition white chocolate (it says creme) with popping candy! I am intrigued but I exercised no-FOMO so I don’t regret it after the first bite.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CvimHzAR36z/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
And today your first Insta link is made of Unobtainium. Crazy!
Kinda strange. I just got a “Commercial Terms Violation”. Seriously, my own bottle, my own picture! Anyway, it’s weird because when I clicked on the link, the post showed up but with no ability to refresh.
I can’t see the post. Are other people posting perfume bottles having the same issue?
I can see the second link just fine, but the first one just says “Page Not Found”.
I guess that perfume is Verboten on Instagram now.
Taking the path of least resistance with rose perfume. I was on a quest for a rose perfume earlier this year but kept getting sidetracked with perfumes I liked better and I am still exploring samples. I have full bottle of Stella and quite like it but I wanted a greener or muskier rose – maybe rose-ish rather than straight up rose.
Today, I am doing a sample of Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land. By mid day, smelled just like Stella to me, so not what I am seeking. The quest continues . .
So glad to be off this weekend.
Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’Eau — have you tried it?
