Italian niche line Santa Maria Novella will launch Bizzarria, Gelsomino and Magnolia, three new fragrances joining L'Iris in the brand's Eau de Parfum collection.
Bizzarria ~ "Bizzarria is an original, unexpected Eau de Parfum that pairs the hesperides traits with the resounding notes of cedarwood. Bizzarria is the most peculiar citrus tree of all: it brings the characteristics of lemon, bitter orange and etrog together. First studied in the Medicean gardens in 1644, it now returns to life thanks to its serendipitous rediscovery in the garden of Villa Medicea di Castello in 1980. [...]The olfactory architecture of Bizzarria Eau de Parfum intrigues since the beginning, enthralling its guests with timur pepper and the unmistakable, ambiguous sweetness of neroli. It goes on telling its incredible polytropic qualities with the heart notes of orange blossom absolute, davana and ginger. At the base, cedar wood and musk: the enveloping attitudes that make the impression of beauty last, over the dazzle, en profondeur."
Gelsomino ~ "This is the story of Cosimo III de’Medici and of his dear “Stufa dei Mugherini”. This is the story of a falling in love: the jasmine that struck the Granduca’s senses was of a special variety, that came from Goa in 1688. More similar to a small rose than to a classic jasmine, the Granduca Cosimo III had a special greenhouse built for it, and banned its cultivation in all the realm. [...] The daring olfactory construction of Gelsomino Eau de Parfum brings the special tale of Cosimo III de’ Medici and his Stufa dei Mugherini into our everyday lives: bergamot, tangerine and pink pepper welcome us in the top notes. At the heart, the mystery unfolds with sambac jasmine absolute, geranium and ylang-ylang. Finally, the greenhouse opens entirely with cedar wood and musk."
Magnolia ~ "Magnolia Grandiflora is a grandiose evergreen tree whose traces can be found also in the prehistoric era. It questions our notion of time with its unusual ability to pass through times, to adapt to different environments, and to preserve its one-of-a-kind individuality. A rare talent that reminds of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’s own history. An awe-inspiring exemplar of Magnolia Grandiflora also graces the facade of Villa Medici di Castello: this species arrived in Florence in the 18th century, and it was soon grown in the Medici's family possessions. Magnolia Eau de Parfum embraces all the characteristics of the tree that defied time into a powerful olfactory landscape. With an enthralling opening of white rose and geranium, it confers a multi-layered depth with the heart of magnolia grandiflora paired with the absolutes of magnolia champaca..." Additional notes include jasmine, amber and musk.
Santa Maria Novella Bizzarria, Gelsomino and Magnolia will be available in 50 ($180) and 100 ($275) ml. Look for them later this month.

Bizzarria sounds very nice! Will try that one for sure!
That one sounds most appealing to me too.
I don’t want to sound horrible but I am not happy about Santa Maria Novella’s new packaging on products. Give me ancient Italian apothecary any day but this new stuff? – mediocre…
I think they’re trying to maintain the look but also go “fancier”? No idea, but it must be working apparently the sales are way up under new ownership.
Agree! Much prefer the old packaging. Still looking forward to trying these regardless…
I have an old bottle of Magnolia, is this a new Magnolia? I am intrigued to try !
The old one was cologne, this is EdP. No idea how close this will be to the original.
I love that this house has such a long and storied history! I haven’t found a perfume from here that I am crazy about, but all of these three seem interesting enough to seek out a sniff whenI can…
I’m deeply crazy about their Caprifoglio — it’s my Platonic ideal of a summer cologne!
Ah, thanks for the suggestion!
Caprifoglio was my signature scent from 98 to 2001. Absolutely GORGEOUS!
I love Aqua du Sicilia, a strong and spritzy cologne for summer! And for the autumn and winter I love Tobacco Toscano, such an elegant and easy to wear scent! And further I’d say I’m also a big fan of all their non-colonia/parfum stuff like the soaps and handcreams or even their liquors, santé 🥂
My favorite of the line has always been Melograno which I shared with my son. The prices have really increased! Is it because they are EDP? I’m pretty sure Melograno was $125 for 100 ml
