It's Hump Day, the last day of May, Walt Whitman’s birthday and World No Tobacco Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m still happily wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue.
Reminder: 6/2 will be Powder Puff Friday...wear something powdery! This is a repeat from 2015.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Prada woven bucket hat in the Lily color ("The streetwear-inspired bucket hat, one of Prada's iconic accessories, comes in a new version, in raffia-effect woven fabric with a summery mood. The lettering logo embroidered on the front embellishes the accessory") is $950.
Commando before my shower except for left over sandalwood oil from pre sleep ritual. Love that hat, but I had the semi-fatal “I could make that!” Reflex thought… must stop starting new projects until I finish some! Happy Wednesday, all!
You totally could make it, though, and it wouldn’t even take that long.
Yes, it would be cute to have the hat and a big string bag made from the same yarn for the beach or shopping farmer’s markets… I’d probably make them a classic blue and white stripe, or maybe hot pink and white…but first I need to finish the Afghan I am making for my sister and the sweater with the RBG collar knitted in, and the buffalo yarn cowl and yadda yadda yadda-it takes ten minutes to think of years with of projects!
Love that sweater design you’re working on! I’m with you on the project thing – it’s so much fun to start them, but I usually get distracted by another and never finish the earlier one. 🙄
Do you mind telling me what brand sandalwood oil you use? I’m always on the lookout for a good one.
It’s very old sandalwood oil I bought in Fez when I was in Morocco in 1974. So I suppose you could call it antique, or something. Whatever label was on the bottle is long gone. It is splendid, if I do say so myself. None of the scratch ones that Australian sandalwood often has..
And look, you’d save even more on the tote!
https://www.prada.com/us/en/p/crochet-tote-bag/1BG393_2A2T_F0076_V_OOO
Now, I could undercut that price by quite a bit! LOL!
Ooh! Please keep us posted on the RBG sweater — I have it in my queue, but I will probably never knit it. So exciting that you are making it!
Thanks for the info, meredifay. Sounds fabulous! I guess I’m out of luck on procuring any. 😂
If you ever get to Fez, your could see if you could find the store. It was close to the tannery. 🙂
A reason to go to Morocco. 😄
Morocco is always great! I haven’t been in ages!
I hear you. I want that Prada raffia tote in every color. I might try it honestly. First one should be fuschia, then maybe a light faded blue….
There are a variety of raffia and raffia like yarns available from Etsy, etc. I am gritting my teeth and focusing on my sister Afghan, but if you do make one, please let me-us- know what materials you choose, and how it comes out. I went through a phase making market awhile ago. They are great for TV watching,
Hello all!
I love the Prada raffia stuff and could easily take one of the totes at about 1/10 of the price….
I’m in Ofresia by Diptyque, a rather lovely wisp of freesia and honey. If you told me this inspired Beige I would believe you. Maybe a bit light for this heat but I love it
Taking my last test of this course today, with the final on Friday! Big week, but I’m gunning for that A.
Have a great day everyone!
Good luck!
Thank you!
Lots of luck! Hope it goes well!
I think it went okay. ☄️
Yay! Fingers crossed for an A.
Good luck with that final!
Day 3 of powdery iris. BBW Butterfly shower gel and body butter plus Dusita Splendiris.
Have a great day everyone 😊
I bet you smell fantastic Kris!
ELdO day three: Antihéros, a bright, astringent lavender for this bright, sunny day.
Finished my bottle, which I think was a gift from Cazaubon. Was sad to see it end 🙁 Wear it in good health!
not great sleep. Coffee is strong and rich, however.
Another foggy cool day here. Going to go with Box of Eels. There’s a tad left in the EDT and I have promised myself a new bottle in France so may as well be practical and use it up and be beautiful because it is!
That little hat reminded me of a toilet roll cover at first glance.
You smell fabulous! The coffee and the Chanel. I hope you love every drop of the new bottle as this one.
Hope you sleep better tonight!
Hope you have better sleep tonight.
And the toilet roll cover comment? 🤣🤣🤣
Im with you on team Not Great Sleep.
I needed to look up Toilet Roll Cover because I did not know of its existence. 😅
Is this common in some areas of the world???
I spotted some cute ones (crochet, kitty…) on Etsy but still not sure if I need one.
They are not common here, but I am certainly aware of their existence and have spotted them in the wild 😉
Hehehe
Toilet roll covers are not common at all anymore. But I used to see them at a couple of aunts’ houses. They also had crocheted doilies everywhere.
Yes, it does. And at second glance, when I saw the price, I almost choked on my coffee. Do people really buy this kind of stuff?!
In my whiniest voice “But it’s PRADA …”
Thank you apsara and hajusuuri for delighting me with a reminder of a bit of American culture! Note to Jiji:
Our local library has a craft book devoted to Toilet Roll Covers – yours may too! They are very familiar to those who attended mid-century American craft and hobby sales. Rather disappointed in myself that I have never made one… Search Ebay for Toilet paper covers; there is a classic vintage pattern for dolls with full shirts, and a vintage-vibe book on Amigurumi crochet. Can you say “rabbit hole?”
Escentric Molecules #1: on a quest to find the perfect “on a rooftop patio in Rome wearing my husband’s pressed shirt” fragrance. Bit of warm skin, bit of laundry starch and hot iron, maybe a some of citrus, vegetal, or floral wafting off the windowbox.
This gives a good skin/laundry vibe but would need to layer with something to complete the illusion.
Now that’s a quest! I would start with Chanel.
Have you sniffed CDG Marseille, has a fresh washed ( soap ) and fragrant air vibe. Also, the serge lutens room spray In the Linen Cupboard, is what it says, with a hint of wood.
Good morning! I’m in Jour d’Hermes EdP today. Having a visit with my sisters across town…lunch and whatever sibling shenanigans we can dream up. Woo hoo! 💃🏼
Have fun!
Have the most fun! Jour is one of my favorite pillar fragrances of the last 20 years. Just fab.
Sibling shenanigans! Lol
Enjoy your day 🌞
What lillyjo says 😀
Have a ball!
Sounds great! Hope that you all had fun.
SOTD is Iris Poudre. Powder for sure! I must have been mad for saying that it isn’t aldehydic at all last week, because today all I can smell in the opening are citrusy sparkling aldehydes.
I’ve been trying to learn individual perfumery notes via a kit from Perfumers Apprentice. It comes with 40 different pre-diluted aromachemicals and a booklet to explain each. It’s been really interesting smelling notes on their own — most actually don’t smell very good in isolation, and it is the blending of them that makes them pleasant.
For example, aldehyde C-12, famously known as the note that gives a ‘champagne bubbles’ effect is quite sharp, like if you accidentally got soda water up your nose, and the bubbles were extra small and prickly. It has good reach (I can smell it a foot or two away) but only lasts a couple of hours on the blotter. It is quite citric and I imagine is used often with citrus top notes. It also gave me of a soapy cilantro quality at times, which was interesting. It makes me appreciate how Chanel perfumes are blended so that aldehydes are rendered so well rounded and pleasant!
That perfume kit sounds like great fun. I’m going to do something like that one of these days. Smelling individual notes as you describe is very intriguing to me.
It sure is! Once you smell a note individually, it becomes much easier to pick them out in perfumes.
Ahhh! I want to get a nose sense of chypre (I know that isn’t a note and probably not in your kit–but you know what I mean), and all those resins like Rockrose straight. They are just a long lovely hum in my nose-brain. What is your kit called?
I got the Perfumery Notes kit but they have others too! https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/c-58-educational-kits.aspx
You can also get individual ingredients that aren’t in kits and dilute them yourself for smelling 🙂 They’re fun and interesting, I would recommend.
I do love Labdanum (same as rock rose?) and resins too!
Thanks for sharing about the perfume kit! Do you think you’ll end up mixing some of the notes to create something?
Sure will! I’ve made some accords but nothing smells quite good yet 😛 All part of the fun though.
That kit sounds rather awesome!
It sure is! I definitely recommend it as a fun learning tool.
More powder today in Clair de Musc. Such a pretty all occasion perfume.
That one is so pretty!
Clair de Musc is one of my top ten – as you say, it’s pretty and all-occasion, and, for me, it’s also the perfect musk.
CdM is so cosy, great choice.
Been wearing my Nicolai summer scents this week. Riviera Verbena and now L’Eau d’Ete. Likely Cap Neroli tomorrow.
Battling allergies. Trying different OTC meds. Today is Claritin and a nasal spray. I’m finding Allegra makes me a bit woozy…my nephew swears by it. kjnd kf mizing it up between Zyrtek and Claritin…. The allergies aren’t really that bad…just annoying.
First day in shorts!
Sorry about the allergy, hope you find your perfect medicine.
And those Nicolai are so good.
My son is having a terrible allergy year, so I’m glad your’s aren’t all that bad.
Yuck, sorry to hear that you are having issues with OTC relief.
I love that hat, too! I’m in a “loving the color lavender again” phase, after not having anything lavender for ages. However, I might pay $95 for it, but not $950! Insane.
I am in Prada Infusion d’Iris again, since I didn’t manage to thunk the bottle yesterday. Today’s the day.
I guess it’s $95 for the hat and $855 for the Prada logo… 😄
You got it.
I think the hat is cute, too. But not $950 worth of cute!
Been thinking about cp but I dont think I have anything that qualifies as powdery…
Sotd is Osmanthe Yunnan. Quiet but oh so lovely.
Weather is excellent here right now, unfortunately havent had much time to enjoy it, lots of video calls and stuff to do 😅. I considered doing some work on my balcony but i dont have a comfi chair-desk setup there so i would probably end up with a sore neck and back….
Btw, Has anyone here watched the whole Succession series? That final episode was awesome imo.
I have watched the whole series and thought the ending was great, too.
I thought the ending was pitch perfect. What a great show.
I have 2 episodes to go, so thank you for no spoilers! Going to finish Ted Lasso today too.
Guerlain Idylle and a cup of spearmint tea
That spearmint tea sounds wonderful, especially if it’s iced! 😍
Finally, we had to cave and turn on the AC last night. As usual, it was the humidity that finally got to me. Took a nice long shower this morning, and delved into the Swapmeet samples. J’Adore is perfectly hitting the spot. My only memory of it was a long-ago shower gel sample that I loved. This edp mini is quite like it, and bonus the bottle is so pretty! Also want to say how lovingly packaged all the swaps were – everyone was so careful and added nice touches. I have treasures to explore. Regarding the CP, I am waiting to pick one of my overall favorites for Friday, because I love powdery.
Off to read comments.
After several years of bare bulbs (combination of “not sure what look I want” and, let’s face it, sheer bone idleness) we got some ceiling fans with light fixtures fitted. Just moving the air around is enough for the moment to deal with humid nights, so we can put off the day we have to use aircon. 😀
Happy Hump Day! I’m freshly showered and moisturized wearing Un Bois Vanille. Not powdery per se, but there is a hint in there so I claiming points.
It took me three hours to wash Biggie Smols yesterday. In the baking sun and of course I forgot any kind of sunscreen or hat so today I’m looking decidedly lobsterish. Totally worth it though because he looks absolutely dashing!
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cs4orE2vqwe/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I got a LOT done yesterday and was thoroughly exhausted when I went to bed at 2230 only to lie there unable to sleep. Ugh! Hate that! I’m starting a run of 3 on, 1 off, 3 on tonight…I think they’re trying to kill me. Just a few more weeks and I’m done here. They asked me to extend but I said no bueno. Maybe that’s the reason for 6 out of 7 schedule? 🤔 Hmmm…
Anyway, have a good rest of the week y’all!
Dazzling job on Biggie. My car has lichen growing on it ( literally) and is beginning to resemble an ancient ruin.
Kanuka, we are lichen twins! I park right underneath a tree that drips sap, and lichen grows on the sap.
It is a 2009 and has been washed twice. I don’t really see the point of washing cars.
That said, Deva, Biggie Smols looks quite spiffy!
This is the way I feel about cutting the grass and yard work in general. I’m into the “nature take over” type grounds keeping and I’m so happy I don’t have to deal with all of that anymore! 😅
That’s so funny! I do yard work but am trying to let nature take over my car.
In Divine’s l’ete orange rouge. Pretty as can be.
And for all you lexiphiles, I was just reading about a new Oxford dictionary being edited by Henry Louis Gates–it’ll be on African American English. This article describes the project. I learned that cakewalk has its origins in slavery: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/23/style/african-american-english-oxford-dictionary.html?campaign_id=190&emc=edit_ufn_20230530&instance_id=93809&nl=from-the-times®i_id=179115201&segment_id=134265&te=1&user_id=b1247bbfa5b1147f6e9f3ff30a561f17
Will you use it more or less often? Sometimes I feel that if a word is not ethnically-sourced, one will eventually get “cancelled”.
You know, I am not sure. But when I do, it will have many more layers of meaning and history–which is meaningful to me.
Thanks for sharing, I’m fascinated!
Here’s a link to another article about the word – a non-paywall article:
https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/12/23/256566647/the-extraordinary-story-of-why-a-cakewalk-wasnt-always-easy
Thank you for that link. We used to have activities at fundraisers, which we called cakewalks, where you would pay for a ticket to walk around in a circle with music playing. When the music stopped, you would stand on the nearest square (the circle was “paved” with markers or squares). If the one you landed on said “cake” you won a cake–usually prepared by a volunteer helping to raise money. So I never associated the term with anything else. But the link you provided gives a vivid picture of the shameful and complex origin of the term, which I really appreciate. I don’t think the term itself is fraught, but knowing its history is a kind of power against erasing history more generally.
Anori by Le Couvent Maison de Parfum. Cardamom, magnolia, driftwood. Very pretty aquatic floral, polite with a salty edge. I’ve gone through my sample and have about one wear left. Won’t buy a bottle but might order another sample down the line.
Happy Hump Day all!
Happy Hump Day nebbe! I do love cardamom.
Wearing Deneuve extrait today. It’s a little powdery and I am having 2nd thoughts on LHB on Friday it will be so hot. Thinking of either Eau Premiere or Infusion d’Iris for Friday.
I wore Eau Premiere today!
Joining Kris in Splendiris and enjoying the beautiful powdery iris.
We smell great 😊
😊
SOTD is Guerlain “Habit Rouge” which *I* think is powdery enough to qualify (and who is going to come here to disprove it? 🙂).
Had a nice long walk into the city with The Other Mister Koenigsberg, more for the exercise than because it takes two people to buy a bottle of CBD oil and a pair of concert tickets. Then a day of studying towards a SAP Activate certification (today’s chapter: Agile Project Delivery). Right now I am back on the beach after a few days in exile due to grey weather. Once I’ve sent this I’ll drag my sorry carcass to the gym.
Oh, a mildly amusing anecdote. We had local elections all over the country at the weekend, plus a bunch of Regional government elections, so for the past 3 weeks there have been party political broadcasts as part of the news programme every day, to TOMK’s disgust. So, he breathed a sigh of relief that they were over on Sunday…
Just one day later, the Presidente del Gobierno (Prime Minister), reacting to bad results for his party, called a General Election. So we get another 52 days of campaigning & party broadcasts. Yay! 😆
I expect little sympathy from US folk re 52 days of political messaging BTW, knowing you guys get a full year of it every second year. 🙄😬
It is everyday … doesn’t matter what year or the type of election 🤣
That is the truth. It is non stop.
Then again, I have become amazingly skilled at ignoring it.
Agreeing with hajusuuri and Robin that US electioneering is non stop. I see political ads for 3 different states where I live, plus a major city. 🤢🤢
We have an election this year and there is an allocation of $4 000 000 for total party political broadcasting ( spilt between the parties) Political parties can’t use their own fund-raised money for broadcasts / advertising and can only broadcast during the election period. So it’s a pretty stately affair, and short lived.
Good luck with your studies
That’s a lovely rule.
Too dark to see any rabbits but hedgehog, hedgehog, hedgehog as one was snuffling around outside when I got up around five. June already, and it feels like it’s still March to me. So far the weather has been mild, with no heavy frosts yet and the lawn is still growing. The blackbirds have returned for the apples I put out. They stay away over summer and autumn and then come back each winter and spring. I peel the apples ( as they leave the skins and waste too much of the fruit otherwise) and they are very tidy eaters, leaving just a sliver of core behind. Wearing Gabrielle Essence for CP and planning for a short trip next week.
How lucky to see a hedgehog.
How wonderful. I saw a rabbit earlier, and have seen 2 groundhogs this week, and a fox, and heard the neighbor’s chickens squawking while I drank tea on the porch this morning. That’s my neighborhood wildlife report 🙂
Plenty of grey squirrels where I am at, plus the occasional chipmunk. I know there are more critters around, but I don’t see them in my neighborhood.
Enjoying a naughty late coffee this evening instead of a smoothie, might have trouble falling asleep.
I chose Kenzo Flower for powdery, halfway through my bottle and for more CP points, I’m in Réminiscence Héliotrope, a favorite from that very good line-up, les senteurs gourmandes.
Uh oh, good luck Aurora! I can’t have coffee after 4 pm anymore.
Nice mix. Was just admiring pictures of the new Flower Ikebana again this morning.
It seems neither can I, I tossed and turned, FI is a pretty bottle for sure.
Drat! Hope you will get good sleep tonight.
This morning I had a meeting with a person that works for an organization to help special needs adults with independence. This meeting was for my son. You guys you should have seen this person! It was all I could do to not turn around and walk out. I can’t get over the unprofessional and un clean attire. I gave him a chance to win me over with knowledge and personality which was a huge waste of time. I had to come to work but will be canceling all services tomorrow.
I’m wearing SL Fleur d’Oranger so you know… at least I smell good!🌞
Hugs … are they trying to discourage use of their services?
Also, unclean versus dirty seem to be very different and maybe the unclean is a style versus unwashed?
Honestly hajusuuri, I was being extremely generous in my description. Lol.
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that. They evidently chose a spokesman who needs to up his personal hygiene game. 🛀
Deva, these companies will take anyone off the street and give them bare minimum training. Sometimes you get a good person that is going through college and trying to get training in the field but they don’t stick around because of some of the same reasons in your profession. The only way to get good steady help is to pay out of pocket which is astronomical. Idk.. I am going to keep looking.
Dang, that’s crazy. I dated a masters level social worker back in the day and his salary was absolutely atrocious for the amount of education and work load he had. Just unbelievable. I hope you’re able to hook up with someone who is able to help you and your kids. 🤞🏼
Hugs. Sounds like you had a rough time of it.
Thanks Jalapeno, it’s just frustrating.
I’m sorry you had such a bad experience, lillyjo!
That hat is adorable but too much $$$ and I can’t wear that style. Audrey Hepburn could wear that and look great and I am no Audrey. I’m wearing Monegal Impossible Iris, a blind buy that turned out to be one of my favorite irises.
A boring day of chores around the house, yard, and car today. Wish I had a housekeeper and a groundskeeper. Maybe in my next life.
Audrey Hepburn could probably wear anything. I am no Audrey either.
Ahh, Uncle Walt! I’ll have to bust out Leaves of Grass this evening.
It’s been a robustly olfactory day — woke up at 6am to find a little skunk had gotten a paw caught in the bird netting over one of my garden beds. I called wildlife rescue right away but there was a few hours’ delay; during that time I watched it taking out its frustrations on my drip irrigation line. The rescue guy was great, and covered the skunk with a towel in order to work on freeing it, which of course further enraged it and much (muffled) spraying occurred. Even though I was watching from a good distance, there was so much skunk miasma in the air that I wound up having to hang my sweater out in the sun. The skunk was released into the nearby blackberry hedge, in good shape, and the yard is lingeringly fragrant, and I’ll be replanting all my lettuces.
Unsurprisingly not in the mood for anything heavy or animalic, so I’m wearing a couple spritzes of Malibu Lemon Blossom.
Glad to hear that your fragrant visitor was rescued and released unharmed.
Oh my goodness! Hope skunk and sweater both recover.
I would literally not pay #.09 for that ugly hat.
Today I’m in Byredo Palo Santo. It’s wonderful when first sprayed on but doesn’t hang around long.
Yesterday I heard about a new Greek restaurant and so I stopped in there today for a late lunch. It was a delightful place, tiny but very nicely designed and with delicious food. It is on the way to go visit Mom’s place. Sadly, she was not very communicative at all today.
🙁
Glad (and jealous) you got a delicious Greek lunch. Sorry your mom was not up to talking, that must be really hard.
Aw, that’s too bad your Mom wasn’t up for interacting with you. That’s got to be hard.
Busy day today of clearing out both closets in the master bedroom, and then moving furniture out in preparation for tomorrow and Friday. Mr. Jalapeno and I did it ourselves. No one got hurt… TBH, we should have probably hired some people to do it.
I guess it was a heads up for what to expect when the townhouse gets sold.
SOTD = Korres Guava lotion on my shins, plus dust and sweat.
I can’t imagine moving out of my townhouse. With that said, I really ought to keep downsizing but I’ve hit a wall.
Some of the things we moved today were HEAVY! Calling it solid wood is a bit of an understatement.
When you move…. get movers! Best money I ever spent! 😆 I got exhausted just “supervising”.
I did the UHaul thing back in my 20’s.
Thinking I don’t need to do that now!
SOTD = Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere
So good! 8 sprays of course since I am working from home. Powdery? Some, not a lot, but even a little bit counts!
Someone in the very small team to which I belong had been on leave pretty much since early April and her next return date is the 2nd week of July. Instead of requesting a longer leave period which will allow us to supplement with a contractor, we could not because the leave period was too short (they’ve renewed twice). Apparently, one can take up to 6 months’ fully-paid leave with no consequences. I can’t begin to imagine what they’re going through but selfishly, all of us had to pick up for them. Rant over, for now…
That is a seriously generous leave policy.
Well, and a little bit of powder x 8 sprays, that seems like points to me.
Wore Mimosa Indigo today which is maybe a little powdery.
My husband suggested that I go outside for my online classes today. It is a vast improvement in terms of headacheyness and not feeling so drained and grumpy
