It's Tuesday and National Mint Julep Day. Birthdays: Countee Cullen, Benny Goodman, Colm Tóibín. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m considering spending the rest of the week in Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue. My tea is Keemun Mao Feng Organic from Upton with a pinch of Art of Tea Rose Black and a splash of milk.
Reminder: 6/2 will be Powder Puff Friday...wear something powdery! This is a repeat from 2015.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Prada Vienna teapot ("Prada’s Vienna teapot is so much more than just a vessel to serve herbal and breakfast teas in – rather, it’s a snippet of interior design history that makes it one to cherish. The elegant geometric motif that defines this piece – reminiscent of graphic decor in the early 20th century – is a reimagining of Backhausen’s Streber print") is out of stock at Harrod's, and possibly is no longer in production.
That is a beautiful tea pot, Robin.
I think I will sort of twin with you in the same Prada perfume but not the Absolue flanker, just the regular one.
I am reading This Time Tomorrow. So far so good.
Things have been so busy with the library these past few weeks. I am heading there later today. Been missing NST.
We’ve been missing you too!
You smell great!
I love the teapot. Happy to not even know the price.
Glad you are busy with the library, that’s a good kind of busy.
Read anything else good lately?
no! its been an odd year for books. you?
Hello everyone!
I’m in a Top 25 today, Epice Marine. I know it’s not one of the most popular Hermessences but wow, that rush of spices at the top. It hits me every time. I love the base too which does seem to have a powdery bent.
Have a great day all!
Sounds like a great scent
SotD is Fou d’Absinthe
I hardly wear it though its lovely!
Reason why I wanted to try it today: I bought a FB of CdG2 Man yesterday and suddenly remembed Fou because of the nutmeg note haha
I had a nice long pentecost weekend.
Saturday I visited Stedelijk museum in Amsterdam. They had an interesting overview of the work from General Idea (a Canadian art collective)
I also attended the concertgebouw for a great rendition of the requiem by Fauré (and some works by Pärt and Poulenc).
At work its crazy busy. Counting down the days til my vacation (8 to go…)
I never got to smell Iris Absolue but I bet you smell great Robin!
I do smell great, and you smell great in Fou d’Absinthe! Plus congrats on the CdG2, that’s such a wonderful bottle to have.
I have a back up of the big bottle and the pocket sized one. That’a a beauty.
Amsterdam has the Vermeer exhibit at the Rijksmuseum. I am sooooooooo sorry to not see that one. It ends in June, fully sold out and we will be in Amdam in Sept.
After yesterday’s Charogne I decided to do a whole week of Etat Libre d’Orange, because I had the box open and everything looked interesting (well, not everything, I’m looking at you, Sécrétions Magnifiques), and because the box contains my only powdery scent, which I am of course saving for Friday. Today I’m in Rien, a dirrrrrrty patchouli-incense-leather thing. I don’t know about everyone else but sometimes I just need to smell earthy and grimy, and this is a great way to do it. (I Profumi di Firenze Terra di Siena is another great way to do it. They both call to mind handfuls of loam.)
Yeah I love the earthiness of Rien, you smell awesome and a bit mysterieus! 😊
I sometimes think about getting a 50mL bottle of Rien. And then I look at the rest of my Perfume Stash!
Interesting! On me Rien turns me into a sharply-tailored Executive Lady, with no dirt anywhere
Yeah, on me Rien was very tame, too.
I’m in No 5 L’eau, which does have a little powdery aspect to it imo.
Finished up our perfect weather weekend last night by watching the season/series finale of Mrs. Maisel. No spoilers but it was so, so good. Ended on a high note and left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. The last scene had us all laughing which was the perfect way to go.
Have you had any humidity? I haven’t here and it’s been wonderful even though the temperature has been high.
No! It has been wonderful, although today it got warm enough we turned our AC on.
Love your fragrance today. I think all the versions of Chanel No 5 have a little bit of a powdery note, though I forgot about those and decided to go with all iris this week.
Thanks! Yes, I would agree the No 5’s are powdery. Iris for the week is a good choice!
No. 5 L’Eau is so pretty! Wonderful pick for this weather.
Thanks Jalapeño!
Like I said yesterday, Fragrantica says all my iris scents are powdery, though I don’t know that I agree. Nevertheless, I will wear iris all week. Today I am wearing Ferre by Gianfranco Ferre. I received this in a swap and very thankful I did as I am loving this.
I am repeating this from yesterday since I know a lot do not respond on weekends and there are people here that live in the PNW. My candle of the week is Sea Salt and Orchid by Anchored Northwest. Some of you may be familiar with them as they are made in the PNW. I ran into them at a local shop, but noticed they do have an online store. No affiliation here, but you may want to check them out. Some lovely scents and come in wax melts too. 100% soy.
I love Ferre-you smell great!
I’m in L’artisan Jour de Fete, which is slightly powdery, in a flour-like way. Temps swinging back up, and there’s sunshine, which makes me feel unreasonably happy.
Hope everyone’s day is decent 🙂
I love your SOTD. I drained a decant of that years ago
Looking at their website, I can see I sniffed some Anchored Northwest candles while in the shops on Bainbridge Island this weekend! I’m glad you’re enjoying your candle.
I love powders!!! Looking forward to seeing what y’all wear this week.
I’m starting it off with No. 22 which is more soapy than powdery but I had wanted to wear it badly so there ya go.
Some candidates for the week:
– FM Iris Poudre
– Chanel No 19 Poudre
– Diptyque Fleur de Peau
– LP Drole de Rose
I would do Teint de Neige (thanks cm8 for introducing it to me!) but I gave my decant to a friend who enjoys it.
Oh also No. 5 Eau Premiere, the powderiest of all No. 5 in my humble opinion.
Well, you know FM Iris Poudre will be part of my repertoire this week. LOL.
Haha I am not surprised! I want to wear mine more often too 🙂
I see you also selected Fleur de Peau as a candidate for powdery.
Yess! FdP is more doughy than powdery for me, but still in the powdery realm! Did you post a list of your candidates for the week?
I didn’t make a list, just going with day by day inspiration.
I managed to eke out another wearing of vintage Hypnotic Poison for powder puff week.
Like lillyjo and madtowngirl, we’re under the same high pressure dome and the warm, dry weather and low humidity has been wonderful. We always wait until we can’t stand it before we turn on the AC and we hit that point last night when it was still 82F in the house at bedtime. We live on a busy street and it was kind of a relief to close the windows.
PS that teapot is lovely.
I will probably turn mine on tonight.
LOVE the fact that the summer muggies have been almost non-existent so far!
We turned ours on today. Probably should have last night for sleeping, the upstairs bedrooms were a little too warm.
Had an early morning doctor’s appointment and they had to up a dose of one of my meds. Wearing Lyric today and not looking forward 90 degree Temps for Friday and Saturday. I am thinking LHB since it is powdery.
LHB is a good one — thanks for the reminder!
Oh, LHB is a great one for the CP.
I will have similar temps on Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to the cooler temps that are supposed to follow!
Powder isn’t my strong suit, so I think it will likely be Chanel samples week. Box of Eels for me today. It works since it’s cool out; we’ve gone back to more normal May temperatures. At least the sun does come out most days, though.
Well, Chanel does do powdery. and Box of Eels is one of them. Love that scent.
Yes, I’m very much enjoying it today. I don’t do strongly powdery scents, but Chanel is often good at balancing it out. This one is on my FB list…someday.
Estee Lauder Beautiful Magnolia Intense and a cup of peppermint tea
Smelling good Barqs.
I’m wearing Hiris today, one of my favorite irises.
Ah, I should have gone with that today.
I had a dentist appointment this morning. This time I wore Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus body oil. Now that I am home, I put on Terracotta.
I haven’t heard people mention Terracotta much for quite a while. That is a great scent!
I have the Nest hibiscus perfume somewhere. Need to dig it out
Glad you’re done with the dentist and you smell summery.
How do you like the Sunkissed Hibiscus body oil?
SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
Robin and I had a mind meld this morning 😂!
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, just like whichever port we’re in over my cruise. After not being away for vacation, this was a lovely beginning. Of course if you ask me where I’m going next, I will look at you and shrug my shoulders. I’m still not comfortable flying so we’ll see…
The clientele has not changed on this Holland America cruise, bent more towards the older crowd. I told my sister that “older” means whomever is older than the oldest person in our party which means we will always be not old enough 🤣. There were not many kids / teenagers.
With that said, we also got a beverage drink package where one can order anything $11 or below and it is counted towards the package. We were allowed up to 15 “drinks” per day and the maximum I did was in the 10 range, but it is usually 7 or 8 (2 double espresso, 1 cappuccino, 2 waters, 1 seltzer water, 1 wine and 1 cocktail). I had no choice but to take it — I don’t regret it though.
Weather-wise, other than embarkation day and the sea day, it was gorgeous out and we were pretty much able to do what we wanted.
I’ll be posting bits and pieces of the vacation in IG over the next few days. In the meantime, I need to think about thoughtful feedback …
Thanks for checking in, sounds like you are having fun 😊
Your cruise sounds lovely.
Grest to hear that you enjoyed your cruise.
Welcome back!!
Welcome back to NST!! Glad you had a lovely trip 🙂
It *was* gorgeous out today for sure!
It really does sound like a lovely cruise. I do imagine the clientele is similar to what you’d find on a Viking cruise, especially this time of year (we’re still a month out from the kids being out of school, and I know the U.S. Northwest schools are similar). We looked at the Viking cruises a while back, because cruising the Rhein & Danube sounded wonderful and laid back, but unlike the large companies Viking has a hard age limit on their cruises and it was impossible with a kid. (Viking would make us feel positively young, judging from the groups I’ve seen moving around German cities…tho we are not.)
River cruises still sound wonderful to me, as do St. Lawrence Seaway cruises. (There used to be a cruise from Montreal to the Îles de la Madeleine, from which you could then head to PEI, but it’s been on hiatus since COVID…grr.) Some friends of ours rented a houseboat in Wales and cruised the rivers and canals there…that one is definite bucket list for me.
Hey twin!
So glad it was fun! And glad you did not try to do all 15 drinks 🙂
Ooh, powdery scents are not for me, so I don’t have much to contribute this week. Maybe Shalimar?
Wearing 10 Corso Como, but it’s just not sitting well with me. The incense is too much on this hot day… and it’s going to hit 90 all week 😕
Shalimar counts as powdery to my nose!
Sit the week out! I’m sure you’ve earned it.
It’s the House of Prada day! Wearing Infusion d’Iris and enjoying it on this cool day. Since this one doesn’t last very long, I plan on re-spritzing often, with the goal of thunking my little 1-oz bottle. Haven’t thunked anything but samples in quite a while!
Hey twin. This doesn’t last very long on me either
But it’s so pretty while it lasts.
You’re smelling quite elegant today.
Thank you!
Thunked a sample of Tauer Les Annees 25 Bis for the CP. This is a nice one. It’s too bad it’s not available anymore.
I had a truly lovely weekend with a great mix of relaxing and activity. The biggest activity was catching a ferry to spend Sunday on our closest neighboring island. We just walked around the little downtown and went into the shops and ate fish and chips near the harbor. My biggest excitement from that day was stumbling upon a gorgeous, empty Baccarat bottle of vintage L’Heure Blue extrait. It has a chip in the back of the stopper but you can’t even see that when it’s being displayed. I got it for $15! Based on some searches for info, it appears to be an 80ml bottle due to its height measurement. I’ll definitely wear LHB (current EDT) as one of my powdery perfumes this week. 😍
Congratulations on your find.
Thanks!
What a lovely find! Sounds like a great weekend.
Yes, a great weekend and a great find! The woman who wrapped up the bottle for me said “wow, what a find!” and “wow, you found a treasure!” So it’s always fun when your purchase also impresses a vintage shop employee. 😂
Oh, and since I haven’t taken a picture and hosted it anywhere, the bottle looks like the one in this post from The Scented Hound. https://thescentedhound.com/2017/06/12/vintage-guerlain-lheure-bleue/
That is very beautiful and it was indeed a wonderful find! Well done! My best find was a small crystal clock at the Goodwill store in my hometown that turned out to be a Waterford, and I got it for around $5.
Wow, very nice!
Nice find!
Thanks!
The original Les Annees 25 is discontinued but the BIS is still available at Luckyscent.
Ah, I must have gotten them confused then. Thanks for letting me know!
I did love the original Les Années 25! Bis is great, too. Haven’t brought myself to thunk either yet.
I don’t think I ever tried the original Les Annees, but I enjoyed wearing Bis today. Probably don’t need a bottle, but if another sample or decant fell into my lap, I’d be happy with it hehe.
Very elegant teapot.
I reached for Diptyque Fleur de Peau for the CP today but tonight it’s Baiser Volé essence de parfum, creamy, flowery vanilla, soon I’ll finish the little 15ml bottle but I have a BUB. Soon it will too warm for the essence and I’ll switch to the edt.
The essence is my favorite formulation of that scent.
Essence is yummy but probably all versions are good from what I tried.
Fleur de Peau is a cold weather scent to my nose. If it’s above 40 degrees F, then I can’t wear it.
Interesting, it was more than 40F but rather fresh, never tried it in the heat.
Wearing Zelda by En Voyage today.
Ack! Love that one! You smell delightfully mysterious and complicated. 🙃
I’ll join Deva in saying I love that one! You are smelling wonderful, Desirae
Love that teapot! Both the actual geometry of the print and the COLOR! It matches the mint chocolate chip ice cream I have in my freezer 🍦
As for perfumes, I’m wearing Anné Pliska, which is a lovely feminine powder puff of a scent. This one pairs well with short skirts and push up bras, but I’m past the point of no return for that get up, so will stick with my jeans and flannel button downs. 😉
Off to do the chores I didn’t do yesterday because I’m a slug-a-bed and spent the whole day reading, napping, and taking doggo for urban walkers. Gorgeous day!
You earned that laid back day yesterday!
Shalimar Tonka today and also love that teapot. 🫖
The teapot is really a hit…makes me more surprised it’s not still for sale.
Powder isn’t something I tend to think about, so had to look at Fragrantica. I had already decided on Amouage Beloved this morning and was pleased to powdery in the description.
I’m contemplating a BUB of Beloved, just to be on the safe side, but I honestly can’t see myself finishing my existing bottle for about 20 years.
And I love that teapot!
It might be the most popular teapot ever!
That is a lovely teapot, Robin!
Wearing La Pausa today. Yesterday I gathered up my powdery frags, but ended up wearing nothing due to more drama with getting the floors installed. Sounds like the guy we had lined up (through a local handyman group) flaked on us. We had to followup since we didn’t even have the quote yet; should have had it last Wednesday. The comment to us was something about not being able to source out supplies? A lame, non-excuse as we already have the flooring. We thought an additional subfloor was needed, so maybe that was the “excuse”. Although we could find it online pretty easily. If he didn’t want or have time to do the job, he should have just told us last week instead of leaving us hanging! Plus apparently he’s “out of town” this week. Extremely unprofessional and even worse at communicating. Rant over.
We had someone else come yesterday afternoon to give a quote, and was here today putting down leveler to even out the floors instead of the extra subfloor. Tomorrow the flooring will go down. I wasn’t sure if our new guy was going to show up today, but he did! I’m a bit relieved.
I’m glad you got a good guy to take care of the work. The other guy sounds pretty shady.
Exactly! And the first guy was through the franchised “Handyman” group. I was very disappointed by the whole thing.
That’s a sort of harrowing story but it seems to be coming out well, and I’m glad for you. I’ve recently had to hire workmen to do painting, air conditioner repair, and plumbing, and it’s always stressful, worrying about whether they’ll come, how honest they are, and so on. Luckily things have gone pretty well overall.
Thanks Calypso! Glad you had a good result with all the work you had to get done.
You’re not kidding about the stress and worry!:
Oy vey! What a pain, having the first guy ghost you like that. Good luck getting the floors dealt with.
Thank you, Jalapeno! Let’s hope it goes smoothly from here. And this isn’t even a big job. I sure feel for people doing full-on renovations!
Ugh — sorry about the reno troubles. I sympathize: We had a ton of trouble two years ago with electricians. They’d take a look at the designer’s drawings and give us a quote 4x what they’d done on larger kitchens the designer had done the year before. Yeah, COVID back then, but 4x was crazy…just say you don’t want the work because you have bigger jobs. We also had something similar with a guy who did screens a few years back — he kept telling us that he’d come and give us a quote and then kept giving us the runaround and not turning up. If you don’t want to do screens and you want to focus on blinds…just SAY so! It’s like dealing with a toddler: Use your words!
Adding to all the teapot love! Nice pick, Robin.
I’m wearing Satori today. I’m really liking it today, despite having had this sample for a few years now and not really connecting with it previously. Strange how that happens.
I know I have some powdery scents, but I’m having a hard time thinking of what they are. I like powdery notes and they don’t bother me. Even when scents are described as “baby powder”, I’m down with that! But that also means that I don’t think I pay much attention to it. I will remedy that this week.
you smell great!
I like powdery scents. but will have to look around to figure out what to wear on Friday. I can jokingly recommend Zoologist Cockatiel because I read it was repurposed and revised from an earlier independent scent called Powder and Dust. The problem is that I, and apparently several other NST’ers from here, have found it a scrubber. Maybe someone will like it! Today I am again wearing Harvest Mouse from my recent Luckyscent sample order. It’s just a pleasant little cozy mouse who fills up the crevices of your mind and body so sweetly. 😉
I actually enjoyed a sniff of Cockatiel not too long ago and it was powdery to me! Will have to revisit on skin, curious to see if it is still pleasant then.
Starting off powder puff week with one of my cosmetic, powdery favorites, NEZ 1+1 Ambre à Lèvres
Oh, I have some of that. We’ll see if I make it through the week with the Prada.
That is a VERY pretty teapot today Robin! Lovely pick.
Desperately trying to get household chores done today. Tomorrow we are supposed to have some guys in to measure for new countertops in the kitchen. Then on Thursday and Friday, someone else will be here to tear out old carpet in the master bedroom and put hardwood flooring in. Not looking forward to moving out all the furniture and clear out the closets in preparation for that.
SOTD = still hanging out in Korres Guava lotion on my shins.
You do have a busy week ahead; wishing you and your hubby very good luck!
It’s the furniture moving that’s been a pain. And finding a place for it temporarily while the work is done. We sure made use of sliders for moving the bigger pieces of furniture. Much easier than having to lift it so far.
Thanks. We’ve already moved some stuff already, but will do most (if not all of it) tomorrow.
Gosh.. new countertops too? You really are doing alot of upgrading. I hope you can take it easier on your back this week, but it doesn’t sound like it.
Yep. The main counters got a little damaged when the tile backsplash was put in, while a smaller countertop has some water damage from the coffeemaker.
Oh, much work but YAY for new floors and counter!
SOTD is ll Vanille 44 – just cause.
Good enough reason, plus you smell great !
Am hosting my cousin from England on her first trip to Canada, and we’ve starting to do some sniffing of my collection. Yesterday was rose&oud, where her favourite was JM Velvet Rose & Oud, and today was leather, and her favourite was Carner’s Cuirs.
Oh, how wonderful! I hope she enjoys her visit!
