Happy Hump Day and happy Holi! Also, International Women’s Day (the 2023 theme: #EmbraceEquity). What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: I'm still out of town helping a family member, and I'm still commando. I'm heading home this afternoon and will put on some fragrance when I get there.
Reminder: 3/10 will be Time Travel Friday...be as creative as you like with the theme. You could wear a perfume that reminds you of a trip you once took, or that brings you back to a prior period of your life for any reason, or that calls to mind a place you'd like to visit in the past or future.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning
Sipping my FIL chai tea and eating dal and rice for breakfast.
My MIL is teaching me to make homemade baklava today. Lets see how this works out…
I haven’t picked a SOTD yet-but will come back after my cooking lesson. Enjoying all the kitchen smells for now
Waft my way, please.
Send me a piece of baklava, please ❤️
That sounds great, my mom makes homemade baklava too! I still have to learn.
Let us know how. it goes .
I learned how to make baklava from my Greek neighbors when we lived in Glyfada outside of Athens. That meant making the phyllo as well, as it is a great source of pride who has the thinnest and crispiest dough.
I loved Greece so much. I have no fragrance memory, but resin, pine, retsina, all resonate. And basil in huge bunches outside my kitchen door ready for the picking to add to tomatoes and fresh feta.
That is a nice memory! Thank you for sharing. I will let you know how it turns out tomorrow when I try it
then you can move onto spanakopita!!
It’s been ages since I’ve had baklava. A restaurant a couple of towns over from me made some of the best I’ve ever had, with pistachios. So delicious! 😋
Pistachio baklava is also my all-time favorite. Sigh; happy memories!
Tom Ford Lost Cherry.Just because. And at least I can smell perfumes properly again!
Thank you all for the well wishes yesterday,we’re getting there!
✌🏻🤗🌹
I’m glad you’re sniffer has returned, J B! 🌹
You smell great!
You smell wonderful!
Glad you are on the mend!
You smell great, J B! I’m glad you are feeling better!
Whoo hoo for a functioning sniffer again! That’s a BIG deal!
Chanel No. 19 EdP.
Oh to be in my 20s again…wouldn’t it be nice if we could bering our life-lived sensibilities back to that cute (and slender!) past? I laugh when I look at photos from back then. We were all so cute! Even those we didn’t think of as cute back then or think of ourselves that way. I’m content with who I am now, but I do get a kick of remembering my 20s. I hope those in their 20s today have as much fun at work and in life. (I say that even remembering how severely my heart was broken at one point back then…)
I don’t think I would want to go back to my 20’s, maybe my early 30’s
I am with you on this one, LTSG. My 20s were quite awful. At the same time, I do look back at the photos and wonder what was going on in my head to have so grossly misperceived my own appearance. ( Actually, I know what was going on in my head, and that’s part of the awful decade that was for me.) I think I’ll stick with my happy 50s, achy knees and all.
Twins!
I remember my 20’s fondly as well, despite all the angst and heartbreak.
Clinique Chemistry, as smart and crisp as a just-pressed white shirt (although I put some on before a workout and am now doing the household chores in gym duds). It’s what freshness smelled like before calone and its offshoots completely took over. It’s so sophisticated, and quite possibly in my top-ten-ever list (although there’s a lot of competition).
There’s a perfume named Chemistry?! I’m a chemist by trade and a giant nerd by temperament, so that name appeals to me (though I suspect they were thinking of a different kind of chemistry when they named the scent). Anyway, your description doesn’t sound like a perfume I would enjoy, unfortunately. I still hope to try it!
Thank you everyone for your strength vibes and wishes yesterday. My mom had a rough day and I was glad I was there to help her. It’s been 10 years that I’ve been caretaking. I’m grateful for the privilege but it’s so relentless, which so many here have been or are going through – hugs, pl67.
Wearing Organza today. I remember when it was first released, we were in Chicago for the weekend and Saks was doing a big push for Organza. My husband loved it and bought me a bottle. That was a nice time 😊
Caretaking is so hard. Your Mom is lucky to have you.
Hugs!
You are doing a wonderful, loving service to your mother. You are to be commended for your hard work. Hugs to you.
Sending you a big hug and lots of respect for the work and love you have performed all these years
Caretaking is such a big job. Hugs!
❤❤
You are very courageous, so glad Organza has such happy associations for you.
It is so hard, ringthing. My sister and I were in it for 15 years. Sometimes I am exhausted by the attention paid to day care for kids, but then, they have a need also whereas caring for and seeing our parents out is not seen.
I learned a lot from that journey of caregiving. My sister and I stuck with the belief we did the best we could with the resources we had in the time we were given.
Be kind to yourself – it will come back to you twentyfold.
Thanks so much, apsara. I needed your words today.
I am so glad they brought you some comfort.
Sending you a big hug, ringthing! It was good you were able to be there for your mom yesterday, I hope you’re able to get some rest and calm today.
That’s a long time, ringthing <3 I hope you remember to take care of yourself, too!
My father bought my mother a bottle of Organza on his way home from a business trip decades ago 🙂
Hugs ringthing. Being a caretaker is the hardest job I can think of. Hope that you have some time for self care today.
I’m in the new Hermès Un Jardin a Cythere from a newly arrived sample. I get the burst of lemon right away just like others have described. And not just citrus, I mean actual real lemon. It’s the most realistic lemon I’ve ever gotten from a perfume and when I first sprayed it on yesterday afternoon I swear I felt my mouth start watering in response. The lemon dries down pretty quickly. It’s a pleasant soft woody scent. I’m not sure I knew what to expect from pistachio. I like it! More than the last Jardin release. If anyone is interested in a split of the travel sprays, let me know. They were in stock yesterday and I should have just ordered them because today they are not. I will keep watching though.
Count me in please! I am supposed to get a small sample but this seems like a good semi-large sample to get anyway.
Great! I will keep checking the Hermes site and let you know.👍
Madtowngirl-I sent you an email a few days ago. We’re you interested in those samples or not?
Sorry! It went to my junk mail (which I never check😬) will email you now!
I’m interested too in splitting a travel set and saw you can build your own. One could add 4 bottles of the new Cynthere to make a complete set. Just sayin. 😉
Yes! I just ordered a set this morning. See my Thursday sotd post.😉
Good morning! I’m in Opium Fleur de Shanghai, and I’m reeking like a fiend, as we do. Today’s my birthday, and I’m headed out on some errands and to a consignment store. I have a $10 birthday GC plus a $6 credit, so I’ll turn that into a blouse or a pair of sandals, which I very much need for summer. I love consignment stores and the thrill of the hunt! ❤️
Happy hump day, y’all!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Have a great hunt!
Happy birthday and good luck with your search!

SOTD is VCA Bois d’Iris. Just because.
Yes! Just because it’s wonderful!
Happy International Women’s Day, everyone!
SOTD: Womanity by Thierry Mugler.
Nice choice
You smell great!
Perfect!
Excellent choice!
Kyoto for me today, thinking of my time in Kyoto almost exactly six years ago. What a beautiful city.
Don’ t you love walking through the Gion in the evening? Once we visited at Cherry Blossom time and Kiyomizu was lit at night and many maiko were there for photo taking.
Magic.
Since 1946 Mimosa has been chosen by Italy as the symbol of International Women’s Day ( it flowers in March ) so I’m wearing JM mimosa cardamon. Apparently there’s a shortage of flowers this year due to drought.
https://www.romeing.it/mimosa-flowers-in-italy-a-womens-day-tradition/
The flower blooming in my garden at the moment is agapanthus , not quite as romantic given it’s considered an invasive weed by several councils.
That blooms a lot here, but I never knew its name before. Thanks! I love the smell of mimosa. Haven’t tried that JM yet.
The JM does smell like mimosa flowers.
I love JM Mimosa & Cardamon
One of my favorites from that line
Doing a side by side test today of the original Bouquet de la Mariée and the latest slightly reformulated version.
A sniff-off! Let us know which one wins
At the moment, they’re nearly identical, although I would say the original is a bit stronger. Everything gets watered down nowadays sadly.
How did your sniff-off evolve?
I think there is almost no difference in smell between the two versions.
This is the most accurate representation of communication in the medical field I’ve ever come across. “Getting On” only lasted 3 seasons here in the US (we stole it from the genius Brit’s) but I’ve never laughed so hard or felt so understood! I wish it went on forever. Totally identify with Niecy Nash
because every phone system in every hospital is different and no one EVER teaches you the ins and the outs of it…☎️
https://youtu.be/R2NcwrPZBLM
Time traveling back to 2015 when I purchased the newly released Tauer Vanilla Flash. Initially, I was disappointed because it didn’t say “vanilla” to me at all. I left it home in my fridge when I hit the road in 2017, rescued it from the fridge when I sold my house in 2020, and now thoroughly enjoy it. It’s gotten smoother over the years, but still seems more like a “spice” than a “vanilla” dominant perfume. Glad I rescued it and didn’t swap it which I was contemplating after purchase.
I love Getting On. The ward round scenes always make me cringe.
I think the entire series is meant to make you cringe. 😅
pretty much. And I know how I want to get on.
Thanks for the laugh Deva!🤣
You’re welcome! ✌🏼
Loved the clip! Also, I have a thrifting find, a post-2005 bottle of Vanilla Lace that is a wonderful sweet vanilla musk. Let me know if I can send you a decant. kcl no space berry at net scape . net.
Aw, thanks so much for offer but I’m good. It will live on in my memory forever, always linked to good times! 😊
Whahaha, thanks for the chuckle! I love Niecy Nash, I will have to search for where this show is streaming… or watch if I ever get HBO.
It’s an older show, so you should be able to stream it easily and probably for free. If you’re in the medical field, there are so many nuances to this show you will pick up on. If not, pretty sure you’ll either be entertained or appalled, or possibly a mixture of both. 😅
Sotd, and seeking CP points, OG Kenzo Flower. It has a compelling effect on me, one who’d happily go off to the desert island with Youth Dew. I’d call it fresh, but I get powder and violets and that makes me happy. The CP connection is that I found it in our town’s much missed Vintage Vogue thrift shop. Ah, the happy lunch hour moments I spent there – office stress would melt away seeing so many nice things getting a second chance. I’ve got a few other V. V. perfume finds to consider for Friday! After it closed and until it had been cleared out, I used to stop by, mooning around the door and peering in, hoping…hoping… 😀
You smell lovely, violet and powder is what I get from Flower too.
Finishing off a mini of Jour d’Hermes. Still not fond of the first blast of grapefruit, but love the long-lasting drydown. Might have to check out the flankers sometime.
Jour d’Hermes also won me over on the drydown.
Another cold, windy day. Wearing Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule. It makes me feel like I am wrapped in a warm, comfy blanket. Just what I need today. Happy Wednesday!
House twins and note twins! I hope you are managing to stay cozy.
Yay, twins! We smell great in sandalwood!
You were smart to go for a cozy scent today!
I don’t even know why I don’t reach for it more often, since it is in the front of my cabinet!
I’m wearing Chergui for cp points as it takes me back to early days on MakeupAlley and the fun of exploring down the rabbit hole–almost 20 years ago now!
I’m celebrating International Women’s Day by making one of my favorite soups and then going to a local art class with a girlfriend tonight.
sp I will join you in the beautiful Chergui. Have not reached for it in a while.
Wonderful!
what is your favorite soup
I have a few, but this one is called Slow-Cooker Cauliflower, Potato and White Bean Soup. I also add leeks to the soup and bacon as a topping along with chives, etc.
Could you post a recipe or link for that, please?
Sure! Please let me know if this doesn’t work!
https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1022831-slow-cooker-cauliflower-potato-and-white-bean-soup?unlocked_article_code=44HLVGwghGspHSC9r9UHSOfvDCsTZEguuvEzbL82OzE_-f7HiXudHW0VHMyIxxMY7vcmRHyKfZ_dB9PMQ_pxz-lRLCh3ofHfDHE2M8_O7T6QqpEEDCn2bKtTg3RtRo1Iz9Z0gHfSEINoXtIP6htz1A5W8oRpCUmomeYNq4yNnRdj7GpqZoFSJqSfP7ctaPh1FqD6SiqykXECF8qvw9lUMrTVQJTPsZisMMZoC4g-rx1tz91QOiG3e5R8yYewhaF6VzagN-hb15ERC88LQSlxmegCCnlO2-sMiWpPLItK51bhtzWQfIHnmoGz3gH2v1Sa9MvN2X3Dt6SR357e525e8M1gVIO6HnxPj9NJWLohgDyuo5AaBrD9&smid=share-url
I should add that while it’s great in the slow cooker, I also often make it on the stovetop. It doesn’t take that long to cook that way, maybe an hour and a half or a little less.
Your link worked! I should take a screenshot of the recipe, just in case that pesky paywall pops back up.
This sounds delicious 😋
Thank you for the link, I’ve saved it, as it looks really delicious!
I noticed that the comments aren’t all positive (bland, too thick) but we like it a lot! I don’t find it bland, but it’s true that it’s not spicy.
Smelling great! And thank you for posting the soup recipe. My hubby and I make soup quite often, even cold ones in the summer.
Soup is always good!
Scent: Wearing Replica Under the Lemon Tree from a rollerball. I love lemon, and have periodic lemon-based obsessions. Teetering on one right now. Lemon perfume, lemon cake, cookies, drops, etc etc. Gotta rein it in.
Reading: 9 Wonder Words by Lucy Turner.
I love lemon, too. On the list to bake soon: NYT’s Lemon Pudding Cake. Favorite lemon perfumes: AG Eau d’Hadrien, Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche, Carthusia Mediterraneo. 🙂
And I’m reading Exiles by Jane Harper.
Work is crazily busy, but I’m now on the countdown for my overseas trip – less than three weeks to go. I can’t believe how quickly the time has passed since we booked the flights back in August.
I’m wearing Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir in memory of the last trip four years ago.
Where will you be going? If you’ve said before, sorry, I missed it.
I am wearing YSL Rive Gauche, this was my beloved aunts signature scent. Whenever I wear this, i feel her presence. This takes me back to my teenage and young adult years when I would know she came to visit without even seeing her just by her scent.
What a lovely memory.
Beautiful!
My scent today is Santal Blanc. I bought this on a trip to Germany with my husband and his late father & stepmom back in 2006. One sniff and I’m instantly transported back to the Frauenkirche in Dresden, truly amazing. Santal Blanc is a creamy, musky, and lightly spicy sandalwood, just so beautiful. It changes a lot depending on the weather, today I even detect some powdery rose. I’m very curious about the reformulated/rebottled version, but not curious enough to blind buy even the cheaper bottles on discount.
I wore OdlR Volupté today but tonight it’s ELDO Fils de dieu.
Fils de Dieu is wonderfully savory.
I agree, it’s my only ELDO.
Happy Holi! It’s much colder and wetter around me this year than it usually is. I am therefore wearing the decidedly un-Holi-like Hyde. Delicious floral chewy leather.
Happy Holi
Happy Holi!
I went time traveling to the late 90’s today in Gap Heaven, the reissue from a handful of years ago. Smells like high school for sure! Most of my friends wore Dream or Bath and Body Works Cucumber Melon.
You smell great!!! That was the only fragrance I wore the entire first year of dating my husband because it was the only one he complimented me on. And it was my wedding day scent.
Wearing a sample of Miss Dior EdT. The card with it lists LOTV and I definitely smell it in there, so I think this is the 2019 version. It’s fine, pretty enough. I think I might have liked it better if I didn’t have to hunt to figure out which version it is but at this point it feels like the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
Tea today is Masala Chai from Clipper Ship. It is spicier than the last Masala Chai blend I had (from Georgia Tea Co.), and I like the extra zip.
Definitely good weather for a nice spicy chai!
The Miss Dior reforms are maddening. I would like a 2017 or before version of the edp or Absolutely Blooming.
Robin, I hope that your family member is doing well now.
Another cold and sunny day here. Still windy. Still not a fan of the wind. Does this mean that March blows?
SOTD = back in Bollywood or Bust. It might be a little too lightweight for the weather, though.
I hope the winds make March blow as far and quick as possible!
Haha – March does blow! At least at the beginning.
Not so windy in NYC today but since I am home now, I may just feel it when I take out the garbage.
Oh yeah… March totally blows!
Having a very frustrating work day with the exact same problem with a certain manager that I had back in September. My department is in charge of internal communications yet for the second time, he forgets to tell us about a product change that needs communication (among other things). I find out from another department about the change that’s effective today! Sigh. It’s so inconsiderate, and I’m pushing for a formal process to ensure these things can’t happen again.
SOTD is Willows by Regime des Fleurs
Also, my work BFFs, including my manager, have been in meetings since this went down so I can’t vent to them yet. That’s why I’m venting here. 🙃
I hope you can get the lines of communication corrected! Sorry you had to go through it! Are you able to possibly cross-train him so he’s aware how it affects your processes, and ultimately won’t happen again?
Thanks, and yes, now that I’ve chatted with more of the folks involved, we’re pushing for a change to a more formal process. It’s also being escalated up another level in management. And I sent him a really good email detailing the impact. He’s definitely all too aware now of how people were affected.
Vent away!
I hope things get rectified for you.
Thank you! I got to chat with my manager and with my work BFF in the late afternoon so both of those conversations helped.
Hope you had a nice day! I haven’t been able to read comments yet.
Glad that you had some constructive discussion about your work issues!
My SOTD is L’Artisan Havana Vanille which I bought in the summer of 2011 and loved so much that I took it along with me on a trip to Australia that fall. So now it reminds me of certain events and scenes there. I traveled in luxurious circumstances, for me at least, so it was very special. This was when the had the older bottles and the one I bought was the smaller size. It’s still a bit more than half full, and smells good, though it’s become a bit more syrupy and boozy than it used to be.
Just checking in unscented as my sotd. Left Beaumont, TX and landed in Junction, TX tonight. Hats off to all you big-city people who drive the highways every day with semi-trucks and cars cutting in and out!
We should cross over to NM tomorrow.
Be safe Gail!
I’m in a midsized city and I can’t handle the highway. I can’t imagine going through a big city anymore.
Thank you, lillyjo. Looking forward to getting home!
Continued safe travels!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
It is quite extraordinary! 💚

As it relates to travel, I always keep a decant in my luggage. You can take my perfumista card away but I always somehow happen to wait ‘til the last minute and then forget (except for what lives in the luggage).
I don’t know what it is about people today – they are a whiney bunch. If they were extraordinary, which they’re not, I could understand but …
Case #1 – I wrote an email to the person I was meeting this afternoon with exact specs of what I want to get out of the meeting. Miraculously, he got the 3 items right, except he got every single one of the dates wrong (and dates matter, a lot).
Case #2 – One person’s direct report pinged me and said there’s a new person to add to the posse of employees who should have access. The boss got an email today requesting her approval. Instead of thinking through her question, she came out swinging and asked if I was sure about the access. Seriously? At every turn, this person likes to check for her understanding and she always says the opposite of what I said. When I correct her (gently), she says “That’s what I meant!” Oy!
Case #3 – If you asked me to reschedule a meeting from yesterday to today with an exact time, shouldn’t you show up to the meeting. Oy again!
Hey, maybe I’M being whiney?
I laughed at all 3 cases, especially the 2nd one! I really believe people do not know how to communicate anymore.
Ha! People are crazy and times are strange! Bob Dylan is in the know.
https://youtu.be/U4zlA6NoSVE
Those people are under a permanent Mercury retrograde! Sheesh!
Late again.
Today I wore Shalimar Souffle edp for work. I am now wearing Bottega Veneta edp.
It was a gorgeous day today. There is more snow coming tomorrow night. I saw on the news that we have had 90 inches of snow this winter season!
Glad you had a beautiful day. 90 inches is a LOT. 😳
I think average here is 80 inches. I think we will break 100 this year.
Wow! You are definitely on the wet & snowy side of the country this year.
WOO HOO! Nice to see one of my suggestions from 2017 as the community project this week!
https://nstperfume.com/2017/11/17/friday-scent-of-the-day-1117/
I will wear all my favorite time travels for the rest of the week- Gap Heaven, Escada Un Ete En Provence and Nocturnes de Caron (still wish I would have bought the extrait of that one!)
