Happy Monday, I guess! It's also the European Day of the Righteous and Day of the Dude. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm out of town again, helping a family member, and I will probably be commando through Wednesday.
Reminder: 3/10 will be Time Travel Friday...be as creative as you like with the theme. You could wear a perfume that reminds you of a trip you once took, or that brings you back to a prior period of your life for any reason, or that calls to mind a place you'd like to visit in the past or future.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I was digging through a couple of drawers and now I’m in Hermessence Vanille Galante, which is the palest, gauziest vanilla I can even imagine. Pure DKNY was supposedly based on the smell of “a drop of vanilla in water”, which I thought was the stupidest bit of ad copy ever: if I want to smell like that, I’ll put a drop of vanilla in my own damn water. But VG is pretty close to that idea: some vaporous flowers and a little shard of blond wood, a wisp of smoke, and that sheer watery vanilla. I can’t even tell if I like it: it just kind of *is*, like barometric pressure.
Ha, I think you smell great.
So many Hermessences are on the homeopathic side
Sorry, but you had laughing my head off on this one!
You had me.
So…combined, it’s the day of the righteous dude! (Sorry, someone had to say it!
)
I think I’ll wear Sienne l’hiver today for the CP, another one of those Eau d’Italies that I’m trying to make last forever. This one reminds me of Oktoberfest in Munich in 2008. I wish they’d have kept this one in production; I’d have bought a BUB of this and Paestum Rose. Instead, I tried a sample of Don’t Cry for Me from their new line Altaia recently, and it was…a nice floral, wearable, unobjectionable, but nothing terribly interesting.
Last night’s SotE was Un Jardin sur la Lagune, which was more engaging (though I don’t see myself buying an FB). At any rate, at least it smelled better than the first time I tried the sample, while I was recovering from RSV, and all I could smell was the alcohol.
Lol, yep someone had to say it.š
For sure, and it wasn’t going to be me, so thank you ockeghem.
š¤£š¤£š¤£!
Loved the quip about the righteous dude!
Just came back from a nice vacation in Morocco (Hamdullah, as they say)
What a country !
I am in orange blossom , for š²š¦
Welcome back! What perfume(s) did you wear?
Welcome home!
Welcome back, Morocco sounds interesting, colourful!! How did you like it ?
https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2023/mar/04/sculptures-created-from-secondhand-books-in-pictures?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Welcome home. I know you love books so thought you would like these amazing book themed paper sculptures made from books.
Wow! This is amazing
Thanks for sharing, Kanuka. This is mind blowing!
Lucky you, hope it was wonderful!
Oooh, lucky! I’ve always wanted to go!
That sounds wonderful!
ššš
I loved Morocco when I was there in⦠omg, dating myself⦠1974! Where does the time go? Volibilis(sp?) and the markets of Fez (we came upon an almond market where the scent was overwhelming- almonds as big as you thumb and so delicious) were high points. Plus we spent a couple weeks parked behind the Chief of Policeās compound in Erfoud while we got the engine of the VW van fixed! Travelers tip- do not succumb to the temptations of doing 180 spins in deep sand in a vehicle with an air cooled engineā¦what can I say, we were all really young⦠oops, sorry to reminisce- where did you go and what are your highlights?
Welcome back. Reading a book now I think you would love and the cover is beautiful. It is The Daughters of Madurai by Rajasree Variyar.
Welcome back! Looks like a great trip (on your instagram).
Welcome Back! You and I are Perfume Note twins today.
Iām exploring my sample set that I got from Beautypie recently. 6- 5 ml travel sprays for less than $40. Thatās perfumemath free, right? I couldnāt pass it up. Some of their fragrances have been created by Frank Voekl.
Today Iām in La Poesie Des Chiffres with notes of cocoa flower, vanilla and sandalwood. I got a big blast of cocoa flower at the beginning and now itās drying down and very work friendly.
Sounds right to ease you into Monday!
I’m wearing Bapteme de Feu (love) and heading down to my “yoga studio” (our basement tv room). It’s a relatively busy week with a commitment every day including a MUCH-needed haircut on Friday–funny how the definition of ‘busy’ changes once one is retired.
Agree on post-retirement ābusyā ā if I have more than three commitments in a week Iām exhausted! š¤£
That is so true!
Totally agree!
I want that so badly. I am so close…
You smell wonderful! I think Uncle Serge gave/has given perfume lovers quite a few beauties in “later” years. BdF was love at first sniff for me.
I seem more busy retired than I did when working. It just seems like a different kind of busy. Always volunteering, going to some appointment, meeting someone for lunch and on and on. I love it though.
I love it, too!
Wearing Chanel Paris-Venise.
Finally, today we are having a sunny, warmer day in the 50’s.
Happy Monday! š
You smell great and I am enjoying the same weather as you!
Thank tou, Hajusuuri!
I just came back from a lunchtime time walk and it was very pleasant!
š
Liking the weather, too!
Off to the beach in a few minutes!
Hope you enjoyed the beach!
Pleasant lunchtime walk twins! But my walk was to the Recycle Bin, lol.
Lol! At least, we were weather twins!
Good day, fragrant friends.
Love the theme this week! Some candidates for the week:
– Diptyque Tam Dao takes me to a serene Buddhist temple from home. On the opposite side of the same coin, Hiram Green Hyde also takes me to a temple but a different one that is full of thick, suffocating smoke from the jossticks, crowded with patrons offering their prayers for the new year.
– Bleu de Chanel reminds me of lying in bed with a long lost lover as twilight breaks… Not a place I want to return to, but a sweet memory nonetheless.
– Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil is a reminder of the early days of falling in love with perfume, all thanks to that one Chandler Burr article on the creation of this perfume. This perfume holds a long-held desire to visit Egypt… maybe one day. Any perfume from the Hermes Jardin series would work well for this week, I’d think. I am very taken by the latest Jardin a Cythere, and I’m glad you all appreciated my first impressions on it last week. I’ve had a couple of wearings now and more developed opinions on it, might jot those down later.
It’s always good to read your thoughts, psfh, you are great at perfume descriptions š
Thank you, friend, your kind words are very appreciated <3
I tried it this week and liked it very much!
Iām in PdE Azemour, etc., but itās all but gone by now. It was lovely while it lasted! If it could time travel me to May and its weather right now, that would be great.
Seriously, take me anyplace that calls up Azemour!
Iām wearing Rouge Hermes pulled from my mini stash.
I can’t think of a time travel for that one…
I made the mistake of waking up and heading straight to the news after taking doggo out. Bad idea. š¤®
Then I made the wise decision of coffee, toasted sourdough and researching āDudeismā which has been very enlightening. Iām tempted to read āThe Dude and the Zen Master,ā which was written by Jeff Bridges and Bernie Glassman in 2013.
Then I made the most excellent decisions to wear Ummagumma. Yeah, man, the very best idea of all. The Dude abides, forever and always. āš¼
https://youtu.be/sYsw0KVRjCM
Coffee and toasted sourdough sounds like a wonderful breakfast.
It was! Sourdough gets so crunchy when itās toasted and I love crunch!
I hope T Rex is on the mend .
Aww, thanks! Sheās getting good medications and is being kept very inactive, which she hates. Iām lifting her up and down, which she also hates. My back was shot way before this, so I may need some medication soon myselfā¦.šµāš«
I’m thinking that reading a book about Dudeism is very unDudelike? Just saying
Youāre absolutely right. Iām an aspiring ādudeismā practitioner but pretty sure Iāll be six feet under before that happens. Iāve never been and never will be cool enough. So disappointing!
I won’t either, Deva!
I’m back on a “News Diet”… seems so much of it is horrible shrieking calamity. Who needs that mess?
Yeah, and I just canāt help comparing todays reporting style to those 30-40 years ago when they gave you āinformationā vs now getting āopinions.ā I prefer Brinkley, Koppel, Bradley, Wallace, and Cronkite. Cooper, Lemon, Tapperā¦not so much but Iām probably dating myself in a big way.
And “that’s the way it was”!
Wearing Rose Cardin today, a cheap thrill of a jammy chypre that can be found online for less that twenty bucks.
Ooh, it might be time for a blind buy over here. š
SOTM is Rebecca Minkoff once again, and Iāve been trying to decide whether it shares some dna with Byzance (the Rochas one from the ā80s). RM is much less sharply edged but has some of the same spiciness, and adds a tobacco note that I like very much. I wore Byzance in the early ā90s, iirc, but Rebecca isnāt really taking me back ⦠so no points for me today.
Interesting! I love Byzance original and have worn it since its release. Havenāt seen the Minkoff at Nordstroms.
Nordieās online still has it, but I fear it has become a casualty of the pandemic lockdown (it was launched in 2020) ā I found a 30 ml bottle for about half price very easily.
I found it a while ago at Nordstrom Rack, if that helps!
The mention of tobacco very effectively killed any possible lemmings for me.
Wearing DS & Durga Pistachio layered over vanilla lotion.
Doing a marathon perfume packing job to get all the Canadian perfumes ready for the trip to Montreal. Those boxes are basically ready. On top of that, we are having the house tented for termites after I leave, so ALL the perfumes have to be boxed and moved to my SILās house for safekeeping. Which is many, many boxes. Not looking forward to that job. Neither is my husband, who has to carry them down the stairs, out to the car, then into SILās house, plus the entire trip in reverse. Of course when I get back in the fall, then I will have to put them all back on the shelves. Letās hope the termites will stay gone for a long, long time.
Good luck!
Oh no !! Good luck with all that.
It sounds like a lot to do, bon courage.
Insects ā grrrr! We have ongoing ant issues in my bathroom that are usually mild but occasionally explode into full-on war. I try to convince them that thereās far more to eat and drink outside, but they just wonāt listen.
Good luck with packing! Your SOTD layering sounds delicious btw, like a pistachio ice cream
Good luck w/ the packing and termiting. I got a sample of that one too and am looking forward to trying it. I like Kyse’s pistachio one…I was behind on her last few and tried that one recently.
Ugh, very good luck, and props to your husband.
O nooooooo! Packing!
You are a trooper.
Won’t even mention the creatures. Sorry!
Oy vey on all the packing and the teeny tiny varmints! Best of luck with it all.
I am wearing the new Hermes, jardin de Cythere. I went to the store to try it. It is a very interesting scent full of contrasts. The opening is fresh with lots of lemon, that dries down to something cozy, i guess it is the pistachio.
The dry down reminded me of another scent I have, guess which one ?
Itās Bois Farine by JCE.
I love it a lot.
I’m wearing the same, it’s a lovely one! I really like the nutty creamy quality of Cythere. I haven’t smelled Bois Farine but now I am curious!
OH, that made my ears perk up!
Iāve tried it recently and liked it very much! I know a FB is in my future because I have all the other Jardins and I have a Virgo thing about wanting complete sets, lol.
Thanks for these impressions. Something in both Twilly and Lagune bothers me, so I thought I could skip this one, but it sounds good!
SOTD = PG Felanilla
Nice! 4 sprays barely lasted 5 hours. Overall, not badā¦thinking I could up this by 2 more sprays without anyone gagging. No IG post yet but I may do so when I get home.
The inevitable happened ā my friendās husband passed away yesterday. It really was a matter of time. He had lung cancer, which metastasized to his brain. He wanted to live but at some point, there was nothing more to be done. Not sure what the death certificate will show because my understanding is thereās quite a bit of judgment call when there are multiple organ failures.
I think Felanilla is an 8 spray perfume.
Sorry about your friendās husband, thatās a tough passage to go through.
My condolences for your friends husband’s passing. Hope both you and your friend can take the time to grieve <3
I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s husband.
So sorry for you and your friend….it is so hard to work through that period of time when you can do no more, especially for the people we love.
My condolences to you, and my admiration, for your being a friend in such a difficult situation.
I am so sorry about your friend’s husband. Sending hugs.
So sorry to hear about your friendās husband.
Sending you hugs. I verry sorry for your loss.
You smell wonderful, but I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s husband.
May he rest in peace.
Yummy!
Also, because I always respond before I read the entire comment, Iām very sorry about your friendās husband. Absolutely brutal.
O. That’s tough. I’m sorry. Boy will she need you. I hope you are ok.
My sympathies to you and your friend about her husband’s passing. I wish I had better words for this.
Iām really sorry. Cancer is a dreadful disease, or diseases. I have two folks in my life currently battling Stage 4 lung cancer ā neither ever smoked anything in their lives. It seems so random and unfair. Sending prayers for your friend, and mine.
My condolences to you and your friend.
I’m so sorry to hear this news, even if it was inevitable. You have been so supportive and kind to your friend and her husband.
I can’t believe you not doing 8 sprays!
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words.
Wearing Prairie Nymph this morning , a perfume that takes my mood to a better place and time
You smell great, I thunked my travel size ages ago.
Mmm you smell great, and I’m glad it’s helping you channel some happiness.
Nice to be in that place and time.
I didn’t remember the CP when I sprayed on Boucheron this morning, it doesn’t transport me anywhere but I wish I had smelled it when it was first released, in 1989. Definitely an 80s kitchen sink perfume. My bottle was perfume math free and smells great but I’m sure the original was a stunner.
I love the kitchen sink perfumes – maybe they should be their own category!
Have we ever done a “Kitchen Sink Perfumes” CP?
Ooh, great idea!!
I haven’t done a huge amount of travel, but when I do go overseas perfume shopping is a priority, so I’ve got a lot of choice for perfume that makes me think of places. Not to mention all those perfumes that are intended to bring places to mind!
After some dull days, it’s a beautiful clear morning, but the days are a lot shorter already and it feels like autumn.
Despite all the perfume choices I’ve just talked about for the CP, I’m wearing Scherrer to go with my green dress
Perfume makes the best souvenir
100%! I love āperfume tourismā! I was commando today but will try to be more creative and CP-compliant tomorrow.
A couple of you receive an enabler pin, but I don’t remember exactly the NSTers that can claim it. I just received Jeffrey Dame Farfelue and this is one that I can wear that contains vanilla. The aldehydes are certainly at the forefront, but I do get the vanilla. I love it!!! Thanks for those of you who suggested this.
I think that may have been me and lillyjo. Glad you love it! His perfumes are such a good deal too.
They really are and I have bought a few of them. Plus he always sends samples so I have a few more to try out.
I think you are right on you two receiving enabler pins. Thanks again!
I was going to say definitely lillyjo deserves one of those pins.
Iāll claim half a pin. I think I enthusiastically supported the suggestion of the others! So glad it was a success!
I’m giving you my pin because it had already been suggested before I read the post.
You can still have one.
Oh, just take a whole pin.
Pins all around!
Iām glad you like it, I do too!
Maybe you suggested it too. I think you may have so you can take a pin too.
It was Original Musk Kiehl’s today, still detectable as a skin scent but tonight I applied Angel Muse EDT.
Love Muse! You can’t go wrong.
I saw Kiehls Musk on the auction site the other day, which doesn’t happen often.
Time travel!! That is my number one pull into the world of perfume. So I will have fun deciding on my Friday SotD. Today’s, though, is Insolence edp. Other than smelling like a fabulous lady scent, it does not evoke former times for me. Weather today is beautiful, sunny and 73F, but though I enjoyed my walk and seeing daffodils, I can only think a big chill, with snow, will be on its way to our place soon.
Daffodils are up already? Time flies.
They are up in the DC area too!
And in parts of South Jersey!
Your temps were about 20 degrees warmer than mine! But those will be here soon enough. I can still enjoy cooler weather perfumes for now.
I’m time traveling all the way to the Jurassic period with Zoologist Tyrannosaurus Rex today. I especially enjoy this one in the far dry at down when it wafts more softly.
I’m happy we’re in the warming temps stage now with sun shining through the day at sunsets dipping below 6 p.m. for the first time in many months.
I agree with you 100% about the TR dry-down, it’s just gorgeous and elegant.
I think you win the time travel event!
Sampling Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade and it’s excellent. I have not tried anything from line before I don’t think. I get sweet, powdery tonkage with some smoky incense. Very good stuff. I bought some samples from Ministry of Scent/Tigerlily and they were out of Vanagloria but looking forward to trying that next.
Oooooooh, Tonkade sounds GOOD!
I really like the LO scents I know: Decou-Vert and Nirmal.
Hmm, Tonkade does sound good, thanks for the report! And I really want to try Vanagloria too.
The time travel theme is delightfully elastic, and like many people here something I have several perfumes I bought on vacation.
This morning, though, I put on some Cloud, which I can now say is a memory of a trip to the local pharmacy last Boxing week.
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey!
Where’s a TARDIS emoji when I need one?
10 sprays of les immmmmmonnndnndabelss Vanilla Havana
5 loads of laundry
fingerprinting for new project done.
my only crime is lust for fragrance:)
You are giving hajusuuri a run for her money.š 10 sprays?
I love it!
Love all of this, except the 5 loads of laundry!!
You win š¤£
Going commando to the beach. It is my hometown, so everything is a time warp. I will smell of cats and cigarettes after a short hello to friends and throw on some Karma. I remember my jaw dropping experience on Newbury St., walking into my first Lush. It was pure Heaven.
Perfume house twins!
Yes!
I ended up adding a few more Lush ones, just accidentally. I sprayed Vanillary (sp.?) and wanted to retest another.
Hope you have a nice time at the beach!
I just remembered the cp. Lol. Have fun anyway!
Thanks, lillyjo! Everything about your comment I loved. Its the beach in the town I grew up, I live in. So, points for that!
Points for all of the Lush. Lots of points.
Hello NST!
It’s been a Monday of getting things done, so yay for being productive! Taking care of pre-doctor appointment paperwork online among other to-dos.
In other news, Mr. Jalapeno came home from Florida on Saturday (March 4). He had driven 9 hours on that Friday and 10 on the Saturday to get here. I don’t know if/when he will be going back, since his stepmom still has at least 1 more surgery pending that I know of (ankle replacement). So her current tally is both hips replaced, both knees replaced.
Gross content ahead: Spooky kitty had diarrhea over the weekend. I’ve put her back on the probiotic that she was on, but she had been resisting taking. Hopefully it won’t take long for her to get better.
SOTD = LUSH Orange Blossom Perfume. This plays oh so nicely with the far drydown of LUSH Lust.
I was able to sample V and Pansy yesterday at Lush. For some reason I couldn’t smell Pansy at all. I tried to sample Orange Blossom but there was a lady crowding me so I left.
Well wishes to Spooky!
Pansy is a rather quiet fragrance, so I am not surprised that you couldn’t smell it in the cacophony of the LUSH store. What did you think of V?
Thank you for the kitteh well wishes!
I only sprayed on the strip, but I liked it well enough. It is definitely hard to sniff in that store.
Butting in again.
Vee smells a deeper, rounder violet. Rich. It had to grow on me but it grew. And how!
I liked V a lot when I first tried it, and that was a shock! I usually don’t do so well with violet flower perfumes, although violet leaf seems to be OK for me.
Butting in.
I thought Pansy was safe.
Sending healing vibes to Spooky kitty! Hope she feels better soon!
Thanks. It’s been unpleasant for both of us.
Spooky kitty! š¢ Hope she feels better. Resists pill pockets? Always the first line.
Hope the Mr. is ok. My mother in law is going in for ankles and one knee. How long did he have to stay with her? They are talking 2 weeks for the ankle.
Good luck with Spooky!
What I have been using is Fortiflora, which is a powder I can mix into her gooshy food. She usually tolerates it. But there were a few days last week where she just went NOPE!
Mr. Jalapeno was in Florida for almost 2 whole months. His stepmom was not allowed to drive for 6 – 8 weeks after the knee surgery.
I am now trying to get used to wearing earplugs again when I sleep. š„“
Hi everyone! Made it to Pensacola yesterday and heading to Beaumont, TX tomorrow on our way home. Any words of wisdom are appreciated; new territory for us! Wore a few sprays of Lost Alice this morning, as I feel that way.
Good luck and safe travels!
Hey how was the Tiger’s game?
Thank you! Wow, the Tigers are a great team!
Wish I could offer some travel trips, but I’ve never been in that part of Texas. I was in Dallas back in 1984… š¤Ŗ
Not the wisest here, sorry.
I tried the new Angel Elixer. It does not smell like Angel in the least. It reminded me of Angel Nova without the raspberry opening. I thought it was awful. I dislike the new Mugler direction so much that I unsubscribed from their emails.
Today I am wearing Nobile 1942 La Danza ….. I will never remember the rest, but I smell good.
When you āunsubscribeā itās serious, but at least you smell great! šš¼
Now I need to figure out how to stop the texts. Lol.
You can usually text the word STOP to opt out of future texts. Hope that works for you!
Dang! You *are* peeved at Mugler!
Well they broke up with me first š¤£
That one is not supposed to smell like Angel in the least, so at least they gave advance warning
Time traveling back to 2022 in Shalimar Tonka, LOL!
That Shalimar (and the surrounding frenzy) was quite a memorable event in the fragrance world for 2022 though, don’t you think?
Good call, I like it!
Time traveling to 2006 and the creation of AG Songes. My cousin bought me the collector bottle (which is gorgeous and I was very appreciative) but I didn’t fully appreciate the fragrance itself until recently when I fell down the jasmine rabbit hole. Happy to be here at lastš
