Posted by Robin on 8 February 2023 11 Comments

Moroccan Rose Soap Petals from World Market: "Both beautiful and practical, our Moroccan-rose scented soap petals come in the shape of real rose buds. Use them decoratively in your favorite dish or apothecary jar to fragrance your bathroom, or use a few petals as a single-use soap for handwashing". $7.99 for the box of 20.

These are really pretty and a bargain price! I wonder if people will actually use them? Or will they be like the guest soaps I was forbidden to touch at grandmas? My MIL has a shell soap dish filled with little shell soaps that are so old they’re dried out, cracked and practically gray with dust 😂.

That’s exactly why I want these. They were forbidden fruit, so to speak, and it still feels vaguely naughty to use them! 😂

I would use them! And I am sure in general people will use them if that is all there is.

I love these! At that price & number I would encourage people to use them. :)

These remind me of this amazing handcrafted rose soap that I got years ago (15, now, I guess) at a stall at the Salzburg Christmas market. The monks at St. Wolfgang abbey used to make these amazingly beautiful roses. We went to their shop in St. Wolfgang when we were over there in 2016, though, and they’ve stopped making them; their roses are now from a mold. Apparently, they told us, the handcrafted roses were too time-consuming. Anyway, I do know how to make soap but I’ve never quite figured out how they were able to craft it with their hands — it wasn’t glycerine soap, but cold process, it looked like.

This may solve a problem for me — the liquid hand soap in the restrooms at work is the harshest product I’ve ever used. Even with liberal application of good hand cream after every hand washing, my hands, cuticles, and nails were dry, cracked, and splitting after three days back on campus. I don’t want to carry my own bottle of soap back and forth from office to restroom; it would be great to palm a few soap petals each time.

I used to buy these soaps that were like thin tear-off sheets in a matchbook-like package, I think I got them at Crabtree & Evelyn or someplace like that. Those would be perfect. They were sort of like these:
