Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the fifth night of Hanukkah and there are 9 days left to go for the year. Birthdays: Lady Bird Johnson, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ralph Fiennes. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a dab of Serge Lutens Chêne for a day of last minute errands and holiday prep. I might just switch back to Fendi Theorema this evening.
Reminder: on 12/23, we'll have a holiday open thread instead of a weekly project.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Anubis on this cold clear morning. Hoping all our NSTers stay warm and safe in the big storm!
Great choice!!
CSP Vanille Cannelle, just cinnamon and vanilla, so warm and cozy and Christmasy.
Hey, that might layer nicely with Vanille Banane.
Oh I bet it would! Like wearable Bananas Foster!
Exactly!
Oh, haven’t heard of that one and I lurve me some cinnamon! 😃
First day of my last week of vacation. I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. Anyway I’m wearing Lankaran Forest today, just because.
You smell great, and enjoy the vacation!
A few dabs of Indult Tihota today. I smell like creme brûlée, which I would love if someone would make for me.
My in-laws have decided to arrive a day early, and I’m still working today and tomorrow, so I’m coming to the conclusion that my house being “sort of clean” will have to do. Heck, maybe I’ll even hand them a vacuum and put them to work!
Sort of clean beats pigsty, right? I say you are just fine!
I live in a perpetual state of “sort of clean”, so I figure it’s honest!
Sort of clean is the same as “yes, we live here and enjoy full lives”.
True! I have a student who was just lamenting that her mom tries to make their house look like no one lives there every time they have company.
My sister had the best MIL in the world. She always came to my sister’s house early and would clean until other people showed up. She started doing it the first Christmas my sister had her premie baby on December 8 instead of January 18, and she just kept doing it. The woman was a saint. Everyone loved her except my sister’s husband. He would be like, “oh, Mom, just sit down. We can do it later.” She would laugh at him, and say, “What we are we talking about, big boy?” and just keep right on. We all miss her. She didn’t even come to my house, and I miss her.
That’s a great story!
Her name was Yvonne. If you are a mother-in-law, just clean your DILs houses as much as they will let you, never say one word of criticism, and make gentle loving fun of your sons in front of you daughter in laws. She had snow white hair and collected milk glass, so everyone always knew what she would like as a present. She made every Christmas in our very large connected families perfect just by showing up and smiling. When in doubt be Yvonne! Is my motto for every holiday. Also, bring deviled eggs. 🙂
😊👍💕
I am all for the deviled eggs! And for being a sweetheart.
Wow, what a wonderful lady!
Wow! This is lovely!
I’m trying to keep warm in Cuir Ottoman this morning. We’re having ridiculous temperatures (for Oregon anyway) this morning, somewhere in the high teens, AND ridiculous winds, and Mr. G decided to lower our thermostat a bit to avoid overtaxing the furnace. Am hoping Deva and T-Rex are sheltering someplace warm as well. Winter, I’m breaking up with you!
We are expecting all that bad weather over the weekend. Right now, just rain.
Fingers crossed for both our furnaces!
Thanks for thinking of us! We are huddled and snuggled up keeping warm here! Took doggo out for potty and she made a beeline to get back in the warm van. 🤣
Hope your furnace keeps on keeping on!
I’m wearing Arabie and hoping it settles down a little before my haircut this afternoon. My area has now changed to a blizzard warning starting later today and I am very tired of hearing the dire warnings on tv, we’ve lived through blizzards before and I’m a first rate hunker downer. Stay safe everyone!
I am likewise a first rate hunker downer, but unfortunately we are moving about much of the weekend. Fingers crossed for everybody!
The news loves to exaggerate. I just turn it off.
La Liturgie des Heures today, a comforting incense to help me stay warm waiting for the polar bomb (LOL) gets ready to drop colder temps on us. 36 degrees now at lunch time, snow to start at 4:00 this afternoon, and continue snow through the night. Tomorrow at noon, predicted to be 9 degrees with still a 40% chance of snow…. glad I am not going anywhere for the holidays. I hope I can get to the grocery store Saturday we are low on milk. I have to get a cow or a goat or two….
In mid vacation mode. Grocery store was mobbed with people stocking up for holidays and overlay of shoppers hoarding provisions for the cold weather. I should be fine as long as the grid holds out though cooking meals for 5 people for 3 straight days might give me cabin fever. Calm before the storm. Right now it is in the 50’s and I am contemplating a walk before the cold hits. We took the plants in and the kitchen looks like a greenhouse – which is quite cheery, actually. Hope you all are safe and warm.
Wearing LeLabo Musc 25.
Ooh, you smell great. I love Musc 25.
I just got back from the grocery store and it was exactly as you described. So glad to be home!
I’m up and about a bit earlier than usual, as we’re flying to Dunedin to visit my mother for Christmas. It’s just for a few days, then I’m looking forward to a couple of weeks at home with nothing planned.
I’m taking a few travel sprays so will have plenty of choice, I’m wearing Neroli Outrenoir for the trip.
I hope everyone in the path of the dreadful weather stays safe.
I hope you have a safe and smooth flight and a lovely visit with your mother.
Safe travels! Enjoy the time with your mom!
Have fun! You smell wonderful.
I hope your flight is a smooth and uneventful one!
Hello all!
Just bought a piñata 🪅 for my work party tomorrow, now off to get some last minute groceries. I’m wearing Onda VdE which is probably the least Christmasy perfume I could have picked but the decant was in my coat pocket. Love it though I might prefer the EdP just slightly.
Have a warm day all!
A pinata? Fun!
SOTD = Rasei Fort La Whatever
Nice! Very nice! Non-sweet gourmand fruity vanilla. It was deuces wild at casa hajusuuri so I matched the W with that of Whatever!

Yesterday was super fun – no itinerary other than making sure I saw the tree. Other than the train observations, the day was gorgeous; cold but not bone chilling. I stopped by Starbucks Reserve at the Empire State Building and had a mid-morning snack there, then walked over to the Morgan Library, then gawked at the tree, continued on to the Coach Store and finally went to Bergdorfs for a mid afternoon lunch.
Some people have affectations that make me really want to beat them up. Down girl, down! At Bergdorfs, upon walking in, one of the SAs (maybe a manager?) asked a couple if they were there to have lunch on the 7th floor. I did not see the face of the guy but the woman, oy! – botoxed fish lips wearing a shaggy fur (I said not NOT bone chilling cold out) who pursed her swollen lips and said no, flipped her faux blonde hair and declared but of course she had been there before. OMG, who cares?
I guess she does. Not sure of anyone else who would, however.
I just hate the posturing. I had a mid-afternoon snack at the little cafe on the Beauty floor and the server was really smart by declaring that the soup had gluten and cream – I bet she gets asked that every time. The diners couldn’t say but you didn’t tell me …
I am not familiar with your sotd. I had assumed La Whatever was just a way of saying it has a really long name. Good thing I clicked and saw the picture! Lol.
When I first learned about the fragrance, I thought someone was just trying not to have to spell out the entire name!
Sounds like a fun day! The woman at Bergdorf’s cracks me up.
There are all types. At the Coach store, there was a pretentious shopper too, this time with an annoying baby girl voice – “Oh, how CUTE !!! is that BAG with the EYES” (really ugly BTW) and I rolled my eyeballs.
I thought the same thing that lillyjo did about your SOTD name!
I did too, originally!
Hmmm… Big lips and shaggy fur. He should’ve said “you must be here for the annual Whoville Christmas Feast of Roast Beast!” with a big welcoming smile.
Haha!
Faux blonde hair – $300, “…botoxed fish lips” – PRICELESS!
🤣
Weather is not agreeing with our plans. ❄️ 🌧️
Jo Malone Snow Drop
Bois Cherie vanille tea
How do you like the book so far?
I hope you weren’t planning to travel to Canada!
In L’Artisan Couleur Vanille.
On my third cup of hot coffee and freezing to death. The AC in the office is ridiculously low today and just a few of us are complaining. The rest are happily enjoying it. Patience!
🤷♀️. Happy Thursday!
I hope you have many desk cardigans!!
I have cardigans, coats, scarves, gloves. I should also bring a blanket! Lol!
A/C in the winter?
I had to double check it was you posting, thinking it was a southern nster. Lol.I 🌞
I think I have posted this every winter. A very unusual situation that people don’t care too much about or maybe I am very sensitive to cold environments.
Why on earth would they have the AC blasting? Poor you.
Some of us wonder the same every winter.
I am surprised that your office’s HVAC system doesn’t fail. A/C shouldn’t be running in temps under 50 degrees F. Important parts can freeze up and go kaput.
I don’t know what type of HVAC system is in the building, but the AC runs all year round. Most people never complain about it. Management adjusts the thermostat based on the temperature outside, but most of the time it feels very cold, at least for me.
It is lovely here on the coast of California.
Of course, we are wishing for rain–maybe next week.
I went down to Capitola beach and watched a guy throw a stick to his dog over and over. It was very soothing, and I did not get wet or sandy!
I am prepping for Small Family Christmas dinner tomorrow, with just my kids and their kids.
We will have Big Family Christmas dinner on Sunday.
I am wearing Armani Prive Figuier Eden because of the article above. The photo reminded me that I, too, have a bottle with a fake rock as a cap. I smell great!
Happy weekend!
They are saying it will get up to the 70’s this weekend in San Diego… ducking and running from the snowballs. 😉
Smart move there😉
In Ristretto Intense Cafe, paradoxically drinking some tea. Of course, have done the opposite before too…
For everyone awaiting a snow storm stay safe and warm, I remember my winters in NYC, miss the numerous cold but sunny days as in the UK winter is usually much milder but not much sunshine.
I wore I Profumi di Firenze Hayan and tonight it’s Berdoues Maasaï Mara which I always enjoy.
I love the sun, but if I had to choose I would pick mild/ no sun over snow/sun. Idk… It’s a tough call. Mother Nature never listens to me anyway. Lol.
Lol. At least today the days start getting longer!🤩🌞
I will vote for no wind, whatever the other conditions are! Those Nor’Easters can howl like nobody’s business.
Oh good point. Wind makes all weather worse.
I suppose we always want the climate we don’t have.
This is the first Christmas since 2006 when it’s just me and my husband. No travel, no guests, just hanging out at home together (which is fantastic since we haven’t been in the house at the same time for the last 5 months). It’s so relaxing!!!
I just bought our groceries, we’re waiting for the temperature to drop tomorrow, and just being peaceful. My thoughts and wishes for safety go out to everyone who may be in danger from this crazy storm.
SOTD is glossier’s You, from the solid. I bought it during their Black Friday sale. I must say, the compact it comes in may be the most satisfying thing I’ve ever held. It’s like a magnetic clicky worry stone.
A perfumed worry stone really should be marketed. I would by one.
I have that compact! And the spray. I really love You and you described that compact perfectly! I love it’s weighty feel in the hand and sleek finish. Plus I’m a sucker for anything pink. (I think it’s my 80’s soul)
Sounds like a wonderful quiet holiday, just the way I like it.
Enjoy your relaxed holiday! 🎄🎁✨
I told you I would be reporting from the frozen tundra and here we are. It was -18 when I got up this morning with a windchill around -50. Decided on Coco Noir body cream and perfume.
I am happy to report the mailman brought me samples from a generous NSTer and from Luckyscent. Woohoo!
How do you manage with those windchill temperatures? The lake protects me some so we sometimes will get -10 or so. I’m not sure what it will be tomorrow.
I was out in it twice today even though we are having a ground blizzard. You dress in layers and stay in a warm car until you have to get out. You get used to it if you are originally from the Midwest. It happens every once in awhile, but doesn’t last forever 😊By next week they say it will be above freezing.
Fun! Report back if you try anything good!
I will do that!
You smell great! Hopefully you can stay home until it’s over. No fun being out on the road and your gas line freezes.
Thanks.
I have to go out and get my nails done tomorrow. It isn’t more than a few miles away so should be ok. The interstates are closed north and west of here so can’t go too far anyway.
Hurrah for scented goodies but Oy Vey on those temps! Brutal! 🥶🥶🥶
They are pretty brutal when the wind picks up.
Watching the rain fall for most of the day so far. It made for less than pleasant trip out to the garbage and recycling bins. The ugly stuff is supposed to show up tomorrow afternoon. Spooky kitty and Teflon the Wonder Cat are blissfully unaware of the impending cold snap.
Xmas gifts are wrapped, and 4 loads of dishes have been done in the past couple of days. It’s amazing how 2 people can go thru so many kitchen things if they cook a few meals…
SOTD = back in Cuir De Lancome. So freaking good!
Teflon the Wonder Cat always gives me a smile 😊
Tef is the smartest cat I have ever been owned by. And my little furry snuggle bud. 😸
Ridiculously freaking good!
I really and truly wish I would have come across it before it was discontinued!
You can talk to me all day about the dishes as I generate them like you wouldn’t believe. Anyway, I hope the weather doesn’t get too bad tomorrow because it’s our extended family get together!
Hello, everyone, I’ve been somewhat MIA lately because I have had Covid. :-(. Not a terrible case, but it appears I must have had it for several weeks before finally getting tested, and just thought it was a cough/cold. But then it persisted and I just was feeling so utterly tired and dragged-out so last weekend I took the test.
I have really slept a lot and been unambitious and have told my family and friends that I am skipping Christmas this year–or it’s skipping me.
Today is the first time I’ve felt vaguely human for about a week. I am wearing Zoologist Sacred Scarab but to be honest can’t smell it that well–haven’t lost my senses of taste or smell, but am just a bit too congested. I ordered groceries to be delivered the other day and have enough on hand for me and the cats. We are hunkering down here for the big Cold Snap which has definitely moved in this afternoon, taking us from the 60s today down to 18, supposedly, tonight. I managed to move my plants inside including my beloved big Meyer lemon tree, which might later on become the proud parent of two (count ’em, two) lemons!
I know the weather is pretty frightful in many other parts of the country and hope everyone stays safe and warm. If I feel up to it I’m going to make some simple pumpkin cookies, using a can of pumpkin I have on hand. That might amount to my entire Christmas baking. I watched the Mary Berry Christmas special and loved it, but boy do I lack ambition to emulate her–not to mention that no one wants to be around me as I am now. (And frankly, those traditional English desserts of trifle and Christmas pudding both baffle me; just give me the custard and cream, please!)
Sorry to hear you have been sick! I hope you continue to feel better.
Keep resting. I hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon 😊
Hope you feel much better asap!
Boo hiss for getting COVID! Fingers crossed that you finally shake it off. 🤞🤞🤞
Bad Covid! Good rest and pumpkin cookies!!!
I hope you feel better soon, Calypso!
Feel better soon.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh dear, getting here very late but I’m so sorry Calypso! If you’ve been sick several weeks I’m really surprised you’re still testing positive (maybe you started with a cold and then got covid??) but I was certainly dragging tired for weeks. Hope you have a very restful holiday and you’re better soon.
I’m in White Cube. Today has been a lazy day of sweatpants, laundry and a little cleaning. Mostly I’ve been listening to my girls together again and all the giggling. It’s a good sound.☺️
Thanks to all for the travel wishes yesterday, my husband and college daughter made it back home safe and sound last night. I guess it was pretty bad in my daughter’s college town, but fortunately they were traveling west to east and drove right out of it. She wrapped up her two last finals yesterday afternoon and so she is officially done! Woo hoo.
I picked up groceries last night on my way home from work (along with every other person in the city!) and so we shouldn’t have to leave the house til Saturday.
Stay safe everyone!
Glad everyone is home safe!
Oh oh! I saw next Friday it might be 48 degrees!🌞
Thanks lillyjo! I saw that, can’t wait!
Glad you have your family home safe and sound.
The snow started here around 3 o’clock. I couldn’t take the anxiety and left work at 3:45. The traffic was insane! Everyone trying to do last minute Christmas and grocery shopping.
I am home safe with my family.
I didn’t wear perfume most of the day but am now sampling Guerlain Rose Cherie. It reminds me of YSL Paris in a way. More violet though. It’s nice.
Glad you are home safe! That’s how it was here yesterday, the lines at the grocery store were insane. I literally got the last chicken in the case.
So glad you’re home safe and smelling so lovely!
Yay for being home safe! You smell great, I love Rose Chérie.
I had a sample of that. I found it to be very nice.
High fives for being home, snug and safe!
Happy to hear that you are safe and warm at home now!
That’s great you were able to leave early.
Boy howdy, what a difference in weather today! Wind is whipping, temps have plunged, and of course no sun. I know people are experiencing MUCH worse so stay warm and safe out there!
Wearing Ummagumma today again for its soul warming properties. Had a mostly good night last night but you know…in any group of people there is that one who micromanages everything to make herself feel more in control and to let every one know she’s the boss. 🙄
Too cold and windy for the beach today, so we are huddled up in the van!
💨🚐
Stay warm!! I hope you have a goid heater. And of course you and T-Rex have each other.
She’s my little heater- always toasty and warm under her fleece! She’s better than an electric blanket. ☺️
It’s better than the last place I hope.
Yes, at least people talk to me here! 😂 But I think I’m just done being a bedside nurse, so not feeling much satisfaction in the job anymore. Hoping this is my last year!
I was sick of bedside nursing after 5 years. For the next 35 years I did nursing administration and education. I enjoyed that a lot more, but it is different for everyone.
Most nurses leave bedside within 2-5 years, according to statistics. I never wanted anything to do with admin/management so that’s not something I was ever interested in. I didn’t even want to do charge. Just give me patients to take care and I’m good. I also worked a lot of different areas in nursing- outpatient surgery, ER, Mother/Baby, ICU, PACU, and worked from home for an insurance company doing patient education for 4 years, so all those different roles really helped me stick with it this long. I just went back to bedside to travel, but I’m done, done, done! 🙅🏻♀️
I hope it’s your last year too, sounds like no fun! My mom did bedside for 20 years, then became a diabetes educator.
I’m in Lust Lush because I can be!
The roads are icy around my house, not that bad by most of the U.S.’s standards but since we’re not prepared well for it here in Seattle, I’m working from home and can happily wear my most indolic jasmines.
Lush Lust!
LOL! I didn’t even notice the transposed name until you corrected it.
Say Lust Lush Lust Lush 10 times fast!
I read indolic jammys at first. 🤣
Indolic jammys…you might be on to something there!
“Indolic jammys” are what happens when you wear the same ones for a while…
😬
I am keeping everyone who works in retail in my prayers today. My son said he went to the grocery store and asked someone in produce if they had bagged cranberries. The man replied with tears in his eyes, “We do not and I am so, so sorry!” Adam said he felt like he should give him a hug. He had probably been attacked for less today.
I can’t remember the name of the perfume I am wearing today. Something Rouge, I think it is Japanese and I wear it every year at Christmas because it smells like cloves and cinnamon, but I can’t find a name on it. It is wrapped in pretty red paper.
