I’m in a bit of Ancient Resins right now, mostly because I needed it to tame the freak-show hair I woke up with. But it’s okay because it meant I slept really thoroughly. Later on I’m thinking of indulging in Alahiiiine — it’s been a while!

I decided to go in to NYC today as it is probably the last nice day before we get some yucky weather. I am sitting right now at the Empire State Building Starbucks Reserve waiting for someone to come and take my order. Service is slow… (I overheard there are only two servers – eh? This is pretty lame.)
On the train this morning:
– One guy kept coughing and sneezing! Not sure if he is wearing a mask or if he was making any effort to cover his mouth and / or nose. I say he should just stay home.
– A person had his music in full blast until the conductor told him he was sitting in a Quiet Car (first and last cars). This person either did not know or did not care. I say he didn’t care because why even have your music audible to others?
– A couple got on in Newark and was perplexed as to why it was going back to Newark as per the digital sign. I did my good deed and explained that yes we are going to New York and the digital sign is sometimes wrong.
– Would you knowingly choose to sit in the Quiet Car if you have a babbling toddler? I wouldn’t if I knew the rules but I suppose they did not really have much of a choice if only the first and second cars opened at their station and a kid can be unwieldy.
Anyway, wish me luck on my day as I play tourist!

I love your train stories. I have to admit it makes me appreciate the city I live in which is much less hectic.
So wanted to love that perfume, but it turned on me.
Oh no! More for me and others! I don’t know if I can live in a small town because I haven’t tried it.
I like the idea of a “quiet car” even though it doesn’t seem to work in reality. I’d say get prepared for more long waits for anything and everything. There is a distinct worker shortage in just about every field at this point. If you expect any kind of service, you’ll be disappointed. I’ve gotten to the point that when I DO get good service, I jump up and down and clap my hands like a three year old, because it’s such an unexpected delight..
I do like the idea of not hearing noise. That said, including the worker shortage, I had great customer service at the Coach store. The embosser was supposed to already be out to lunch but he was caught on time to emboss my tag. Just the tag which was surprisingly cheap (the princely sum of $12 and no tax at that) and I had it embossed in silver with a cat and a character that means peace!

My boys are both home, we have a lovely tree, and I am planning on taking off work for 10 days starting this Friday. Made me so happy to have my youngest (19 so not soooo young) run down the stairs to my office this morning to check if I was okay after a wee little wiggle of an earthquake.

Indigo Smoke is indeed lovely, you smell fabulous.
Although the notes are quite different, to me it is very similar to Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, which is a firm favourite.

I’m wearing SL Fils de Joie today, a beautiful jasmine that has landed at the discounters for under a hundred bucks for 100ml. I like it better than A La Nuit and that’s saying something. There is supposed to be an ice/snow storm starting tomorrow night but I am prepared. I hope the power stays on but I have firewood in the garage if the heat goes out.

It’s been a busy week, but today is my Friday already. Yay! I took tomorrow off weeks ago, planning to go pick up my college daughter after her last finals this afternoon, but Mother Nature had other plans. We are line for a huge winter storm so my other half will take work off this afternoon and go get her ahead of the storm. They will have to drive in the dark, but better to drive in the dark than drive through the storm. I guess? Easy for me to say, now I won’t be the one driving. Just the one waiting here nervous until they get safely back home.😰 Her graduation last Sunday was really lovely, and we had such a fun family weekend.
In other news, I’ve been dealing with a plugged ear for the past 3 days. It’s driving me crazy! I keep trying those ear wax drops which are doing absolutely nothing. Ugh. If anyone has any suggestions I am (not) all ears, just one ear.🤪

For your ear, I would give your doctor a call or visit, just to rule out sudden hearing loss. That happened to me, it started out feeling like one ear was plugged. And I was able to regain my hearing by taking steroids within a few days of the onset. Hopefully yours is nothing that serious, but it’s worth being cautious!

Call your doctor about your ear and if it’s plugged with wax, they’ll be able to remove it in the office right away. I have to do that every year and it’s instant relief.
I visit the doctor regularly for that (curved ear canal get stopped up easily), but also use ear wash to help maintain.

I deal with ear issues a lot….try the brand EarWax MD. Recommended by my niece (Dr. of Audiology), I like the ear wash. It is gentle, but seems to do the trick. Also use the drops. Good luck!

Gearing up for the storm that’s coming. Making a small Costco run for my mother. My mother spent most of the night in the ER due to loads of back pain. Turns out she has a kidney infection. The big storm will start hitting us tomorrow morning with tons of rain. I ran some errands during my lunchtime today and will get enough groceries tonight after work, so I don’t have to do it again until next weekend.
We were given the option to work from home next week, so I am just counting the hours to be out of the office for the rest of the year. We are very busy though, working on deadlines, but at least I will avoid the commute for a week in freezing temps.

The grocery stores are just awful here!. I couldn’t even park at one I was at so came home and will try after 7pm.
I was very surprised to find TJ’s and my local supermarket almost empty this afternoon. They are usually very crowded at this time of the year. I assume people must be busy doing holiday shopping and will be heading to food stores at the last minute.
I wore Wrappings yesterday (didn’t post). I think I like it best the next day, as traces on a sweater. You smell great!

I’ve been wearing Dusita’s new La Rhapsodie Noire from my Indigo samples for the last 3 days. Fragrantica calls this an amber fougere. I really like this burned caramel + lavender, interesting and bittersweet.
Lots of organizing and cleaning going on today. We have ice from yesterday’s storm so I’m hunkering down. We’ll have (grown) kids in and out over the next few days. Should be both fun and a little crazy at the same time.
I’ve been testing that Dusita too, it smells nice!

It’s the start of holiday break, I’m lazying about in Aromatics Elixir. Feels a bit odd to be off when my husband is still working and son still in school for the rest of the week. The tree is up and presents are wrapped, so I don’t have much pressing to do. It feels good! I’m just going to continue lazing and reading and cooking until I feel motivated to tackle some decluttering later this week.

L’Origan always seemed so classy to me. I haven’t smelled it in forever.
Yes, it’s a truly lovely perfume, the precursor of l’Heure Bleue, you could track a bottle online, Mercari or eBay, it used to be easily available but was discontinued sonething like ten years ago.

I went with vintage Shalimar EDT today from a decant that I keep thinking I’ll finish every time I wear it, but nope there’s still some left. It’s perfectly aged and rich so no need to overspray.
I decided this week to alternate between wearing decants that are almost gone and neglected bottles. Yesterday’s neglected bottle was Ava Luxe Ambre d’Or, and Monday’s almost-gone decant was Mohur Extrait.
One more day of work tomorrow then vacation until January 3rd! However, lots to do still today and tomorrow, eek.
I need to give my decants skin time soon; some of them are evaporating! 😭😱

In Aromatics Elixir today. My “walk through the mist” approach seems to be working: I have enjoyed AE each time I have applied it this way. I wore Wrappings yesterday, and when I sprayed AE this morning, I definitely noticed a family resemblance between the two.
Just got some good work-related news via email; it marks the resolution of a situation that should have been resolved three months ago, but at least looks like it is going to work out the way we had all hoped, and will benefit quite a number of my colleagues and myself.
Made two more batches of cookies today. (one will rest in the fridge and its raw state and get baked tomorrow morning); that may be it for me in terms of cookie baking but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow and Friday. We are heading to a holiday party tomorrow evening; fortunately, it is in walking distance, and will not yet be too cold here. Looks like we will be getting the very cold weather starting on Saturday.
I hope that everyone stays safe and that holiday travel plans are not horribly disrupted.

EL Sensuous Noir on an errands-running day. And I forgot to bring along the one thing I intended to do…drop off property tax payment. Oh well. Got my flu shot, which was the main other thing besides some grocery and other (non-gift) shopping.
Crowded stores…combo of the holiday and snow warnings. I’ll be working tomorrow, but my guess is it will be quiet in the market. We are supposed to go to a holiday concert in the evening, but we will need to see how we feel about the roads.
I may wear same scent tomorrow. It’s a good one in this frosty weather.

SOTD = Cuir de Lancome, from the Sample Stash and one of you lovely NSTers. It does have a similar feel to the Etro Gomma, especially with the floral notes in both perfumes, but the leather is much more present in CdL than in Gomma.

My hot water heater was able to be fixed. The repair guy had to say he was shocked it had lasted this long blah blah… yay for hot water!
