It's Hump Day plus World Monkey Day. Birthdays: Stanley Crouch, Jane Birkin, Lester Bangs, Miranda Hart. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons for Jane Austen's 1811 novel Sense and Sensibility.
Reminder: 12/16 is Jane Austen's birthday. Name a favorite Jane Austen novel (or movie, or television series) and wear a fragrance to match, or, wear a fragrance to register your general lack of interest in Austenmania.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Kate Winslet and the late great Alan Rickman in the 1995 Ang Lee version of Sense and Sensibility.
Love the pic! Alan Rickman was a great Col. Brandon.
I am in Royal Elixir sample again today as it is so nice.
He was perfect.
Agreed, 100%.
La chasse aux papillons sounds perfect Robin.
I am wearing vintage Mitsouko perfume again. They are announcing a big snowstorm this weekend and I have so many plans, parties to go too.
I have not even looked to see if we are going to get snow! Luckily we have nothing coming up but a concert I don’t really want to attend š
Stealing the idea of En Passat from someone who wore it yesterday (sorryāI forget who!). Lilacs and bread seem just right for an Austen novel, and Iām enjoying this in the cold weather.
Yep, works!
I chose to wear Miss Charming by Juliette Has A Gun for Emma. A fruity rose seems just right for her.
Yes, great choice!
2nd that.
Snowed overnight but it’s stopped now, and I am wrapped in the burly cedar of SL FeminitĆ© du Bois, which I bought in Tokyo ten years ago. Fragrances are the best travel souvenirs.
Such great souvenirs ( and stationery a close second). Keep warm!
My husband is a lifelong Harry Potter fan, and we just rewatched The Half-Blood Prince where-in Rickman, perfect as Snape, sacrifices Dumbledore to protect Harry and the long term goal of defeating He who shall not be named. Rickman did wonderful heros and wonderful villains, but his turn as the love-struck older man pining to do something good is sweet and very touching. My SOTD is Dameās Wisteria Soliflore. They surely had Wisteria arbors in Janeās day, didnāt they? We are projected to get freezing rain and plummeting temps tonight as that storm rumbles across the country. This may be the last really flowery perfume I wear until Spring arrivesā¦ Stay safe and warm, everyone!
I thought it was touching too. Really was a great movie, and surprised we haven’t seen more productions of S&S.
Wearing Rive Gauche today.
And smelling marvelous!
Might join you in Ruve Gauche. So good.
Good day! I’m here to turn you onto a new scent obsession. I recently obsessed with Pineward perfumes (https://www.pinewardperfume.com), they made natural perfumes based on smells in nature.
The one I’ve been in love with is Gluhwein, which smells of all my favorite things during the winter holidays. It has the most gorgeous cherry and chocolate opening and dries down to a darkly sweet stewed fruit and pine base. I adore it so much!
Pineward does a sample set and I think the holiday ones: Christmas Wine and Gluhwein are only available this time of the year.
SOTD is Violette Volynka, wanted some sweetness but still needed to be polite for the office.
Gluhwein does sound nice!
Jo Malone White Moss and Snowdrop
I liked how one reviewer of the cologne :ā let this cologne ground you amidst all that sparkles this festive seasonā
Today is my last day volunteering at the library and I break for the holiday season. I really miss it when I am not there š
Will watch š«š· vs š²š¦ . May the underdogs prevail
I will not give any spoilers in case you (or anyone) has not seen yet.
I saw this photo and just decided to watch Sense and Sensibility on my day off š
I’m enjoying the last trail of Sacred Scarab from yesterday. After a shower I will wear Epic, for Mr. Darcyās estate.
I decided I should watch it again over the holidays too!
Oh, Alan Rickman ā such range! Aside from Love, Actually, I think my favorite role of his was as the very snarky Voice of God in Dogma. Really fun movie with some really interesting cast members.
SOTM(oment) is Nicolai Baikal Leather. Itās lovely, but it somehow just isnāt doing it for me today. I think Iāll switch to something more romantic in a bit ā possibly Le Dix, for the violets.
You will smell lovely in Le Dix, I have 50ml of the extrait bought for the proverbial song on ebayuk and need to wear it more often.
Ohhh, the extrait! Mine is the original version of the EDT ā I bet the extrait is heavenly! And your reference to what I assume is the UK website made me chuckle ā ending it in āyukā is near perfection. š
Putting in my vote for the tearfest Truly, Madly, Deeply, and Rickman’s Jamie.
Yes! Loved that one.
OMG, have never seen that ā must rectify!
Good morning. I am wearing Bvlgari au The Vert today. I am going shortly to hospital to visit my daughter, her husband and my granddaughter. Baby was born yesterday and delivery went fine.
She is so adorable and really has captured my heart.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations! What a joyful time.
How wonderful for you!
Thank you! She is so tiny. It is hard to believe her mom was once that small !!
It was a C-section birth, so my daughter is hurting right now. My husband and I ended up leaving so they could get some rest, while the baby is sleeping.
Wonderful news! I am sure you will enjoy every second of that visit.
Congratulations on the sweet new addition to your family!
Congratulations!
Lovely, welcome to the new granddaughter!
Iām thinking of Miss Bates ( from Emma) and played by Miranda Hart in one version of the film. I feel like most people have a soft spot for her character because she is good and yet reflects our own insecurities about being seen as ādullā and not as bright/ successful as others. So a character than is relevant to our own times. She is aware that she will say three dull things the minute she opens her mouth ( at the picnic at Box Hill and famously put down by Emma) and I feel that fear of being dull every time I am in a social setting, and the aftermath when I replay my dullness and cringe . She also sees the good in people. Sheās poor, lives with her mother, is proud of her beige, rambles on a bit. I donāt see her as a perfume wearer but as someone who would appreciate flowers, maybe has lavender. She has one servant so might not smell of laundry soap. I am going to put her in Jicky. Itās a bit of a grand perfume for her but she has hidden depths and strength, and a solid , timeless appeal.
Iām afraid I donāt have a soft spot for Miss Bates precisely because I worry about becoming just like her. For most of my life Iāve been the quiet type (see quotation below), but as I get older I find myself rambling on about ridiculous things and am then supremely annoyed with myself. I ran across this quotation on a teabag label, attributed to Abe Lincoln, and it felt just right for me: āIt is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.ā š¤
Nice observations, and it’s a crucial part of Emma’s moral growth (at last) when she feels shame over how she treated poor Mrs. Bates, especially after Mr. Knightly’s admonishment.
Niece not beige
And she forgives Emma…
I have many favorite Alan Rickman roles, including the one in that Christmas classicā¦Die Hard. One of my absolute favorites, though, that made me fall just a bit in love with him was Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply. There are certain movies that caused me to cry after I left the movie. Thatās one. I was still crying in the parking garage. So beautifully bittersweet.
Anyhooā¦.wearing Gabrielle Essence as I put up our Christmas village and prepare for rain, snowā¦who knows? Conflicting reports, I think this scent could fit many characters. Miss Dashwood? Fanny Price? I see it for a mature, but understated character.

How is your tree looking? Thought you might like these.
Hahā¦. Those are hilarious.
The tree is up and decorated. Slightly off kilter, but not enough to fuss about. The village is up and underneath the tree. Boxes are back in garage. Sigh.
Alan Rickman was amazing in everything he did. Snape is my very favorite Potter character because of his complexity, and Rickman brought him to life magnificently.
I completely agree about T,M, D and Jamie!
It’s a bit cooler today, after two fabulous hot days. We went out for a meal with friends last night and it was so nice to walk home on a warm evening.
I’m thinking of Annick Goutal for today, and I can’t decide between Ninfeo Mio and Un Matin d’Orage. Maybe the first of those, I can’t remember when I last wore it.
I can’t wait to walk home on a warm evening! Enjoy, Gaynor.
What perfume signifies frustration? Thatās what I need to be wearing! For 5 days now, having spoken to about 6 different people, emails flying back and forth, and still my time for my paycheck on Friday is a complete mess. Really, beyond frustrated.
Iām going with Kyoto in hopes of some zen.
I hope it brings you some zen, and the mess gets sorted out soon!
Hope resolution is around the corner.
If this was CA, you would have been owed some $$$$s along with whatever they owe you. I donāt know much about the other western states.
š¤you get your money!
Arrrgghhh. Hope the $$$ comes through.
Iāve been gone for a while, not really thinking about perfume. Today is the first day Iāve worn it in a week – Iām in De Los Santos by byredo.
My father-in-law passed away last week. I got back from the funeral yesterday evening. Itās so nice to be in my home again.
Jane Austen? My mom is an absolute addict. I ā¦ am not. This will be a tough project.
So sorry to hear about your father-in-law. You were a blessing to him, no doubt about it. I hope you perfume today brings you some comfort. Lots of hugs coming you way!
I am sorry about your FIL.
Hugs
Sending more hugs to youš
Condolences to you and your family. Glad to have you back.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
My sympathies about your father-in-law’s passing.
So sorry about your father-in-law. You were a blessing to him.
Iām so sorry for your loss. Big hugs.
Very sorry to hear about your loss.
Condolences sistine, that is hard.
Smoothie is apple and yogurt
Thank you for the well wishes yesterday I won’t venture out until Friday.
I spent the day in Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours and tonight I reached for RP Visa edp, I also have the extrait.
You smelled wonderful today. How’s your arm feeling?
Thank you Jalapeno, it’s sore but I can move it.
I hope you are feeling better.
Stay safe!
Thank you Lillyjo, I don’t want to fall again for sure.
Glad you can stay home!
Thank you Robin, that’s a blessing.
Sot(mid-day) is SL Fille de Berlin since I noticed it on the shelf and have been thinking about rose fragrances lately.
I think of that one as a Christmas rose perfume.
Oh, I love thinking of it that wayš¹š²
Weāre note twins in rose!
Hi Rose Twin!š¹š¹
In Borneo 1834 today. Once again, had forgotten how much I love a particular fragrance. It is a patchouli that actually works for me, and I get a cozy chocolatey aroma from it. Perfect for cold weather! Re: the CP, Iām going to go with Esther Denham from Sanditon (yes, even though I dissed it on Monday). I think the fragrance is a little bit moody and suggests that it may not always be well behaved (in a darker way than, say, Elizabeth Bennett or Anne Elliott do not always ābehaveā). It would also be great on a male character ā Captain Wentworth, perhaps.
Not my favorite fragrance but glad you love it, and agree it’s moody enough for Esther Denham!
I’m wearing a couple of dabs of Tobacolor this morning. I’m not a huge Austen fan, so although I’m sure Tobacolor would go with some character, I just don’t know who.
I’m a huge fan but don’t know the fragrance. I say you take points for indicating your disdain for the subject š
Grocery day today. Getting things before the nasty weather blows in tomorrow. There are rumors of sleet or the dreaded wintry mix in the morning before it all turns to nasty cold rain. Not interested in being out there if I don’t have to be!
SOTD = Clinique Wrappings.
You smell nice! Today was my last day in the office. I am glad I am working from home tomorrow due to the yucky weather.
Glad to hear that you will be home safe tomorrow.
Same weather here but for tonight. If I am lucky the wintery mix will stay north of me.
Stay safe tonight!
Irish Leather on this cold clear day. My eldest is coming home tomorrow afternoon, and I’m collecting son number two on Friday. It’s going to be a full house, and I am so so so excited!
Enjoy the gathering of your family!
Hooray! Family get-together are usually fun-filled.
Woo-hoo! Happy for you!
How lovely! Hope you all have a wonderful time.
SOTD = Tauer Incense Rose
Another OMG! It is so good! Incense! Rose! Iris! Patchouli!

My phone keeps ringing. It hasnāt worked right for many months (I got sick of calling them). Anyway, I will let it go for another hour and then if it keeps going, I will yank it out its socket.
The family get together on the the 23rd? Still on! 20 texts today and hopefully, we have settled on a time and a venue.
I’m glad the get together is coming together!
You smell great! I wore Incense RosƩ yesterday but forgot to post.
Incense Rose IS excellent! It’s one of the few perfumes to actually transport me to another time and place.
It smells like the US Southwest to me. IDK why.
In Bois de Paradis, as we are in mulled wine season.
I could use a glass of mulled wine right now š
I had an awful day at work today. Theft after theft. One of them even mocked us as she was leaving with hundreds of dollars of merchandise. It’s a good thing my blood pressure runs low because that just made my blood boil!
My sotd was Agent Provocateur. I am about to get in the shower and try and start the day over with something else.
Lillyjo, I hope you stay far away from these hooligans. Thank god youāre not in California, which is like Crime Central. Your store needs to hire armed security.
Most stores now are more concerned with employee theft. They also don’t want any lawsuits if an altercation were to happen. We are supposed to just sit back and watch and let the scum of the earth treat us like dirt. It’s demoralizing.
So sorry you have to deal with that Lillyjo, people who don’t behave should not exist.
And thatās the crux of the problem. Once you are found guilty of crime based on evidence, the ability to sue and/or otherwise accumulate money/property etc should be outlawed. These people disgust me, and yeah, Iām judging, so feel free to call me out! š¤£
That sucks. I wish you didn’t have to deal with that crap.
Wow, thatās terrible! I hope things get better at work.
Oh, we’re twins in bad weather, I always think of you regarding Wrappings.
Glad I have a BUB of it!
Been very distracted and forgetting to post. Yesterday I wore Tauer Incense RosĆ©, today Iām wearing Miller & Bertaux Ooh. Iām on a juniper kick.
You smell great! I just happened upon a bottle of Ooh and really like it.
