It's Tuesday plus National Violin Day and National Hot Cocoa Day. Birthdays: Mary Todd Lincoln, Emily Carr, Ella Baker, Dick Van Dyke, Jamie Foxx. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez (white cube). Tea at the moment is Art of Tea Tali's Chai plus Upton James Taylor Blend, sprinkled with a little nutmeg.
Reminder: 12/16 is Jane Austen's birthday. Name a favorite Jane Austen novel (or movie, or television series) and wear a fragrance to match, or, wear a fragrance to register your general lack of interest in Austenmania.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Bill Nighy as Mr. Woodhouse in the 2020 film version of Emma, directed by Autumn de Wilde. Mr. Nighy, by the way, says he has never read any Jane Austen at all.
I am a huge Jane Austen fan so happy birthday to her.
I am wearing a sample today from Ormande Jayne–
“Nawab (Ruler) of Oudh is a province of central India. Our perfume is inspired by the Nawabs who once ruled over it. It is a potent blend of amber and rose with a soft oudh edge.” ”
I really loved the sample of Royal Elixir I wore the other day and this one is nice. Really I have like all the scents from them that I have sampled to date.
Oh for a bigger perfume budget!
You smell fantastic! I love Nawab of Oudh!
Today is cold and glum and overcast, with the first massive snowstorm of the season forecast to begin late tonight, and the twilit Etat Libre d’Orange Eau de Protection seemed like just the thing. I love a dark dark rose anyway, but this weather makes it feel particularly apt.
Opposites: we have our first sunny day (albeit quite cold) in ages.
But you do smell great!
Scent twins and in the middle of the storm.
Stay safe Kris!
Thanks Jalapeno. Getting a break in the action until Thursday.
I’m in En Passant for the first time, since I think that Jane and Cassandra would have worn Lilac toilet water. I’m not a big lilac fan, so I think I’ll pass this decant to my sister, who loves lilac.
That is a lovely decant to gift!
Good call!
I couldn’t think of a clever Austen match this morning, so I went for what I think is a nice English combo from a French house: layered Diptyque Eau Rose and Vetyverio. At any rate, my son told me, “Mama, you smell delicious!”
That’s the best part! Your son is an angel.
I certainly have mom goggles, but he really is a gem.
First day back at work after vacation. Not looking forward to going into work. Wearing no 5 edp today.
My posture has also been improved by Chanel, No 19 in my case, for my last week at the office for the year.
Hope No.5 gives you strength!
Hello everyone! I’m sampling La Via del Profumo’s Amber Chocolate for the first time. It’s perfect for Hot Cocoa Day and it’s also exactly what I’ve been wishing I had as I haven’t been in the mood for the heavier fragrances I would usually reach for in colder weather. It’s a delicate amber with a hint of dry cocoa, not dense or overtly gourmand in the least. Fbw!
Hoping you all are having a great day!
That sounds lovely. I miss having a good chocolate perfume.
Orange Bitters by Jo Malone
I think this is a limited one, I have a small travel size and it worth sniffing out
Jo Malone is very Jane Austen as well as my Earl Grey tea with lemon and honey.
It is LE, but they’ve been bringing it back every year if that helps.
Twins with Robin in White Cube. No Austen references for this one, but it popped out at me as I was in a rush this morning. The last two weeks are all about rushing, it seems.
You and Robin are smelling great today! (honestly, we all smell great every day)
😀
Hey twin! I tried but failed to find a JA reference too.
I am wearing a home made body spray that I got at a Christmas market this weekend. This smells amazing and lasts , really impressed, she said she mixed three types of roses.
I am at work today but excited for a concert tomorrow (Stromae).
Neato on the homemade rose spray! Sounds like a great find.
Have fun at Stromae!!! What a fascinating performer.
“Mr. Nighy, by the way, says he has never read any Jane Austen at all.”
Whaaaaaat? Okay. I do not love him any more. My good opinion once lost is lost forever!!!!
I’m in Bois Belize.
Perfect! 😆
“The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!”
Sense and Sensibility
LOL!!! Excellent.
But I do adore Bill Nighy so much that I don’t mind. And I like that he just ups and admits it. And in the same interview where I read that he did not read JA, he talked about crying at gay weddings:
“When I was a young man, I used to work with people who could risk seven years in jail in this country for any public displays of affection or any rumor of sexual activity between two people of the same gender,” Nighy says of England’s criminalization of homosexual activity that was on the books until the late ’60s.
“Show business, or the theater in my case, was a refuge for gay people,” Nighy says. “Now, to stand in a public place and have two people turn to one another and say the big things, I find it overwhelmingly moving.”
So that’s sweet!
I’m in Copper Skies this morning, and am close to tinking the sample … so I ordered a larger (but still small) decant of it. I do not need 100 mls of it, but it is quite enjoyable and I’m not ready to put it in the rearview mirror yet.
Exactly…you and I both need 15 mls.
Vivacious today, a scent any number of the Denizens of Jane’s books might have worn on a pocket hanky if not on their wrists. A distraction from the mild pining for a whiff of Violet that Russian -kaya name new perfume that has so much buzz. Anyone had a chance to become acquainted with that yet? 12 actual workdays left before retirement kicks in. Woo hoo!
On the twelfth day of retirement, my true love sent to me…
How exciting!
So close!
The count down begins!

I was thinking of trees and the part they play in Austen’s novels…all those walks down lanes, over fields, picnics, grand driveways, gardens, fireplaces and so am wearing JM Oak and Hawthorne, which is only ok. Down here the lime trees are flowering. I noticed them yesterday when I walked to the hospital, past the museum lawn. Such a wonderful scent.
The link above features all the National Trust houses ( and trees) that have featured in Austen films.
Pemberley Woods!
Thank you for the link above. All those places are gorgeous, especially the park and gardens!
Lovely, thank you for the link!
Chanel No 18 for this special day.
My daughter just went to hospital to give birth. I am so happy, but also so nervous !
How wonderful! Congratulations!
Very best wishes to your family! Haven’t tried No 18, must remedy that one of these days.
How exciting for you and your family!
I hope everything goes well. What joy to come!
Congrats! Do let us know how things go. I’ll be in your shoes next May.
Best wishes to your daughter!
That’s understandable, sending quick delivery vibes.
What an exciting time, congratulations!
Congratulations!
We are twins — my sister is in labor today and I’m (very impatiently) waiting for text updates from my brother-in-law!
Woo-hoo!
Wishing happiness and health to mom and baby!
Oooh, congrats to you!
Congratulations Barqs! Best wishes for everyone!
What great news! Best wishes to mom, baby, and to you! Hope all has gone smoothly.
Best wishes for your daughter and the new grandbaby!
Barqs, do report back when you have time!
Mohur!
🙂
Yesterday was Bill Nighy’s birthday; he’s 73.
Oh my, I am now completely ashamed that he was not in my Monday post!
In Apoteke Tepe Brother Night to keep me warm on a cold (for Seattle!) day.
We just took a quick after dinner walk in 27, which is cold for anyplace 😉
Drinking blueberry black tea and reeking BOI. 🫐🫖❤️
Dang it. BOE.
Yesterday was a stunning summer day, first really warm day of the season. Wellington’s sunny days are often not truly warm, lovely in the sun, but cold in the shade. Walking home at 6pm yesterday, it was warm all over 🙂
I’m celebrating that happy memory with Chamade today. It’s dull and drizzly this morning, but supposed to warm up.
It’s been snow here since yesterday and I already managed to fall, my bad wrist(broken one year and a half ago) is bruised but thankfully nothing worse and my head banged on the sidewalk is sore, kind people stopped, I felt such an idiot, but here you go, the joys of winter weather.
Smoothie apple, pear and yogurt.
I was in Cacharel Noa but tonight it’s Chergui, I always forget that I have two travel sprays, 7.5 each, the juice is dark but no evaporation, you never know with travel sprays.
Ouch, you poor thing! I’m glad it wasn’t worse, it sounds bad enough.
Your Chergui is a great choice for winter comfort.
Thank you ringthing, I’m going to be more prudent for sure
So glad you didn’t break anything – snow and ice are so tricky, especially when it’s the first of the season and we’re adjusting to it😬
Chergui is a great choice.
So true, I am going to be extra careful, I was surprised at how I’m enjoying Chergui.
Oh Aurora I am sorry you injured yourself. I am still nursing my shin from the fall I took awhile back. Keep an eye on your head.
Thank you Lillyjo, my head is better today, hope your shin is on the mend too.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that you took a tumble, but glad to hear that it wasn’t serious.
Thank you Jalapeno, just bruises.
So sorry and so glad people stopped to help you!
They couldn’t have been nicer, escorted me to my door.
My perfume plans were interrupted by the arrival of some Sacred Scarab this morning. It smells really good and not at all what I was picturing from the notes, which sound like an early Serge Lutens. I don’t think I’ll need a travel spray but if one dropped out of the sky, I’d happily wear it. Back to Jane Austen tomorrow.
It is a nice scent. I didn’t get a travel spray either, but did enjoy the sample I received.
Having better perfume luck today with Slumberhouse Ore. I already had pulled the sample aside as a SOTD contender when moving some stray samples into a baggie earlier this morning, and then National Hot Cocoa Day sealed the deal. Ore has a wonderful cacao note.
Perfect!
Wearing Vilhelm’s Moon Carnival today because passion fruit and gardenia make me happy.
Tea today is Les Metrofolies from the Paper & Tea advent calendar. I’m only a couple of days behind on my advent teas this year — usually I forget and half of the calendar left in January.
My sister went into labor late this morning I’m waiting on updates about her and my future niece from my BiL. Very difficult to concentrate on work today!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Update when you can!
Exciting! Congratulations to you, Auntie!
BTW, I recently tried the Blackberry Jasmine tea from Clipper Ship Tea Company that you sent me. Very definitely something that was in my wheel house!
Another NST baby! Congrats to you and your family; I hope all has gone well.
Congrats – so exciting!
Best wishes to your sister! I remember how excited I was when my sister had her first baby (first grandchild in the family).
Another baby! Congrats and hope all goes well.
l’Elephant for me today. It’s much more Rusty Warren and “Knockers up!” than it is anything Jane Austen. Pretty sure Darcy would have a stroke if confronted with it.
https://youtu.be/EQ–YyhQjLQ
Thanks for that link. Quite a song!
Good afternoon! In my signature Chanel 1957 today as I am in the office and want to be polite.
The only Jane Austen media I have consumed is the Pride and Prejudice novel, which I greatly enjoyed. I thought Egoiste wold be a good scent for Mr. Darcy. Seems arrogant and self-absorbed on the surface (the name), but once you get to know it, surprisingly lovely (the smell).
Diptyque advent calendar Day 12 was a Philosykos solid perfume. The case is gorgeous but the scent is not for me, hoping to find someone that will enjoy it more!
Great call!
SOTD = Dior Feve Delicieuse
If you haven’t tried this yourself, you must!

I have decided that my “rules” for matching with the ornaments may be somewhat limiting but I will forge on ahead. Afterall, I can make things up as I go along 🤣.
You smell delicious!
The only rule is that you smell good, right? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thinking I will wear Le Labo Iris 39…Iris feels the most Austen heroine-esque out of my (woody, leathery) collection
Perfect! And you could always give a woody/leather to Colonel Brandon or Captain Wentworth.
Great idea, and you smell fabulous!
Chilly day here, but sunny. Appreciating the bright shiny thing in the sky while I can. Both cats are hanging out on heat sources this evening. They are definitely NOT fans of cold weather. 😿😿
SOTD = yep, still in Bottega Veneta today.
Do the cats ever go to the window to watch the snow? Or do they just double down on the vents?
Nope, the cats couldn’t care less about any weather happening outside, with the possible exception of thunder. Teflon kitty does not like that at all. Squirrels are another story though!
Commando— had massage therapy this morning and have been so distracted with tasks that I just forgot (!). I’ve baked my first batch of cookies (a new-to-me recipe, results as yet untasted) and have dough for the second in the fridge. I’ll bake those tomorrow. Trying to produce a batch a day.
Hope it was a lovely massage! And good luck on the cookie production. I just today wrapped up all my cookie cutters for the Goodwill box, I am done 😉
I’m wearing Le Lion tonight for work.
The gas company is replacing all the underground pipes in my neighborhood. They tore up my sidewalk this morning. All the machinery shook my house. I hope they finish soon.
Glad that your gas lines are getting fixed before something horrible happens. But it sounds like it’s a PITA.
Commando so as not to jinx any scents since my belly hasn’t quite recovered. Still not much appetite. Fortunately, no headache. Going back to work tomorrow and will have a big band-aid over my forehead gash so as not to scare any of the patients.
Hope that you feel better soon!
Joining Jalapeno…hope you are all better in time for work tomorrow!
