Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to December. It’s also World AIDS Day and Rosa Parks Day. Birthdays: Rex Stout, Bette Midler, Richard Pryor. RIP Christine McVie. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: I might be feeling a little better but I didn't sleep well and I'm about to go back to bed. Hopefully I will be back later, but guessing this will be another commando day.
Reminder: on 12/2 we're doing Ancient Resins...wear a fragrance with a significant resin component, or one inspired by ancient history. Suggested by Desirae.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: at top right, the Emily Maude Twelve Days of Christmas Dessert Plates, currently on markdown at Anthropologie for $12.60 each. At top left, the bunny plate for 12 drummers drumming.
Good morning and 🐰🐰🐰!
Feel better soon Robin.
Sotd is TF Lost Cherry. Almost drained my sample. Maybe, *maybe* I will just bite the bullet and get a bottle as an early Christmas gift for myself. Hmmm.
I think that one does come in a travel spray? Not to enable or anything.😉
Lost Cherry is so nice. Probably my favorite Tom Ford outside of Black Orchid.
I hope you feel much better very soon, Robin. Try and stay hydrated, if you can.
Another storm here-not as bad as Fiona but super high winds and all that comes with it. I’m wearing Eau d’Hadrien, which is both comforting and beautiful to me. I think this is probably a desert island scent for me. I’ve worn it so long it’s analogous to the soundtrack of my life lol.
Hope everyone has a decent Thursday,
Carole
I am drinking unreal amounts of water, really! It does help (I could tell the one day I slacked a bit).
I like that idea, of the soundtrack. I would almost say the same of original Cristalle EdT but it isn’t the same as it used to be, so that makes it seem sad.
Stay safe, carole! Hope the storm passes quickly.
Thanks, pfsh – It was sudden, brutal, and over quickly! Now it’s sunny and 11 degrees out-very strange turn of events, for Dec 1 🙂
Yay.
I’m glad you are feeling even a little bit better, Robin. And hi, all.
Wearing Les Nereides Imperial Opoponax for the first time this season and it smells wonderful.
Oh nice!
You smell fantastic!
You smell great, I cherish it too.
I’m in CP compliance, wearing Crimson Sap & Sassafras edp by Solstice Scents. This one includes Dragon Blood resin, Olibanum and Benzoin. I haven’t explored Solstice Scents much, and usually I sample their perfume oils, but this may be fbw, especially for fall and winter. Nice.
“A resin from the rattan palm tree” — I did not know that!
I remembered my rabbits at 12:53am, I think that’s a record! Hopefully it brings me extra good luck this month.
I’m in Lea, the sun is out, and it’s my Friday. All good things.
I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow and I’m so excited. It’s been two and a half years since my last massage.
I am so pissed I did not remember! I was up half the night anyway!
Glad you are having all good things, plus bonus massage.
Amouage Lyric Woman for me today, and gosh this is beautiful stuff, especially (to my nose) in the cold.
I wore Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka yesterday, which is one of the few JM’s in consistently like. I tend to waffle on most of the others.
I hate cold weather, but I’m getting into the holiday spirit, so I’m welcoming December with open arms.
You smell wonderful! I am eagerly awaiting my FB, which I know that my spouse bought me for Christmas (because I sent him pointed emails when Luckyscent had it on sale 🙂 ).
Oooh, lucky you! I’m on my second decant. Will probably have to bite the bullet some day. Enjoy your Christmas bottle!
Lyric is lovely.
Love Lyric….I might wear as my birthday scent on Sunday!
Happy birthday to you! Great choice!
JM Myrrh & Tonka is still on my FB wish list. I thunked a decant of that from hajusuuri in record time…
Winter is looming — it’s in the air — and I am feeling comfort scents this week, so today I’m in Bulgari Omnia, which always makes me feel warm and happy.
I just discovered tea bowls on IG and now I want to be a serious tea drinker because these bowls are lovely! Robin, hope your tea is working it’s magic!
https://tenmokus.com/
I’m in SSS Winter Woods because this has every kind of thing that might make some smoke in its ingredient list. Probably should save it for tomorrow, but I only procrastinate when it comes to chores…😉
Ohno those tea bowls are gorgeous! The iridescent ones look so futuristic.
I love those tea cups, but I would need them to be at least 4x bigger to contain the amount of tea I drink for breakfast (yes I know I could use a teapot but I’m lazy).
Wow, gorgeous bowls! I love the one called Golden Leaf.
Those are seriously gorgeous!
Very dangerous knowledge on those tea bowls!
Gorgeous, that’s next Tuesday then!
Happy December everyone! It’s the start of the advent calendar season, remember bust those bad boys open! I splurged on a Diptyque one this year and the box is gorgeous. No spoilers just in case someone else hasn’t opened theirs yet.
I am in Chanel Paris-Edimbourg today for some piney, camphorous, fougere goodness. I love this fragrance so much — the camphor in the dry-down reminds me a little of Tiger Balm, a comforting smell of childhood.
I am also at that time of the month where my sense of smell is out of whack. Something about the hormonal changes of menses turns most strong scents unpleasant for several days. This makes sampling tricky so I’m sticking to stuff I’m already familiar with.
This is a common thing that happens to most women in my family and several of my friends, but I don’t see it talked about much.
The Diptyque calendar sounds wonderful – can’t wait to hear what advent gifts away you!
My nose changes throughout the month too.
Totally forgot to rabbit, dang it. Today it’s Feu Secret for me — loved it so much at bedtime last night that I respritzed it this morning. Mr. G is still on his Italian Leather bender.
You can have my spare set of rabbits!
Sotd is Mitsouko (I think this might be one of the “bad” ones – 6X01)
Thank you for all of the Mitsouko research info yesterday. I’m so glad I have a vintage mini so that I know how the good stuff smells.
And adding healing wishes to Robin and all who aren’t feeling well💕
We are a good sized group!! And left the house tonight for the first time all week, to take my son to Rite Aid for cough syrup so he can go back to work Saturday. WOW, they were wiped clean of every cold product you can imagine.
Hoping you and your family are feeling much better asap!
Resting at home today still hoping to ward off the plague. I’m wearing MDCI Fêtes Persanes and actually remembered to rabbit. Today was the first day of my jam calendar, a delicious strawberry rhubarb.
Feel better soon!
Which jam calendar did you get? What a fun advent calendar!
It’s the Bonne Maman.
Bonne Maman brand is so good, it reminds me of my childhood in France, what fun about your calendar.
It’s my favorite too, happy memories of France. 🙂
Yum, enjoy. I bought my brother calendar for his birthday and he broke into it today too. 🙂 🍓
Ooooooooooooh, that jam calendar sounds like a lot of tasty fun! 😋
Fingers crossed for you cazaubon!
Not ready to cry victory yet, but I’m feeling better now than I did this morning. Fingers still crossed!
Hope you are well rested and feeling better!
Very rested, hoping I will have a good night and be back to normal tomorrow.
I was seized with the desire for Youth Dew today. I hardly ever wear it, but today is cold with snow flurries and YD is so warming. My bottle is from the fifties and still smells wonderful. It’s loaded with resins, so I’m CP compliant, too!
Robin, I am happy to hear you are improving a little bit. I never, ever remember to rabbit so we are twins in that respect today 🙂
My mother used to wear that. I didn’t like it, but perhaps because she tended to overdo her scents. I’m sorry about your weather!
I feel like you about YD and when I wear it it’s the vintage oil I favor.
I need to find us an easier method for bringing on good luck!
I am in MKK today. I find it warm and comforting, though I did worry a little when I remembered that I needed to run a couple of errands this morning, after I had applied a hefty spray to each arm! We got a dusting of snow last night, and although the sun is out, it is windy and quite cold, so a strong and warm scent fits the bill.
Does it count if I remembered my rabbits before I actually got out of bed, and then only said them out loud a couple hours later?
Inspired by mentions of some of what I consider my “deep winter“ scents yesterday, I pulled out a number of my heavy hitters this morning: Dzongkha, Aromatics Elixir, and Bandit — plus MKK. Looking forward to wearing these again!
Robyn, so glad that you are feeling a little bit better.
“RobIn” — ugh, voice to text!
No worries, doesn’t matter!
And honestly, I don’t see why the rabbits need more rules 🙂
I just discovered this article and thought it might be of interest to other NST members (a new multi-sense perfume exhibit at Cartier): https://www.elle.com/uk/beauty/a42106316/cartier-osni2-immersive-experience/.
Hope it will come to NYC
Not sleeping well twins with Robin! Mine’s just the last dregs of a cold, though, keeping me up with occasional coughing. I hope yours is better very soon, Robin!
Remembered my rabbits today, for once.
SOTD is 31 rue Cambon. Had a meeting with one of Ockeghem Teen’s teachers at an ungodly hour, and wanted to seem professional and together (unlike my kid, who has issues with forgetfulness and focus that we are working through). I had to drive across the city and back on streets that were neither de-iced or plowed, and which thawed yesterday and then refroze overnight. Now I want to go back to bed! No such luck, though.
Scent twins. One of my favorite!
Ugh…you are a good parent!
Wearing vintage Mitsouko today. I think the main difference in the vintage and my reformulation that I was talking about yesterday is that the vintage is more plush and three-dimensional. The modern edp I have is a bit chalky and opaque in the drydown. It makes it drier, curiously, though Mitsouko has never exactly been juicy.
“Sweet” and “juicy” do not apply to any version of Mitsouko for sure!
No rabbits for me. Woke up late because I ended up getting up after about an hour in bed to read for awhile. Just finished The Knowledge by Martha Grimes. It’d been awhile since I read a Richard Jury book, so quite enjoyed it.
Bengale Rouge today…just a couple of spritzed to warm me up. Cold here. Last night was very cold and very windy. We went to dinner with a group of friends at a local In , followed by bluegrass music by a group of incredibly talented musicians. Just wow. Cozy setting. Great fun.
That’s local Inn….
Ooh, I wore Bengale Rouge yesterday–trying it from my recent Papillon samples–it lasts and lasts! Nice one. I liked the Richard Jury books in the beginning but they became kind of stale after awhile. Was this one good?
I enjoyed it but that also may be because it had been a few years at least since I read one. I can see what you mean. This was like visiting a familiar, fond place so I quite liked it.
You can have my last extra set of rabbits! I love Bengale Rouge!
Had to get up early for an appointment and forgot the rabbits. Candle Day starts tomorrow and the price is $9.95, so my cart is ready to go. Wearing Coromandel today.
You smell good and you can have one of my rabbit sets!
I am wearing Creed Virgin Island Water and drinking my second cup of green tea.
I hope you feel better soon, Robin.
Thanks Barqs!
Commando today
Feeling a bit better after a hot toddy.
I’m glad to hear that. Maybe you should have another one! 😉
Big hugs, LTSG…hope you keep feeling better.
I hope you continue to feel better.
Continued healing vibes!
It’s my Friday, it’s been a bit of a week. The important deadline of 14 December moved to 6 December, then on 1 December (yesterday) became 2 December. Then that madness was trumped by the emergency yesterday afternoon. Yesterday’s Oaurzazate helped, I’m sure.
Today I’ve chosen Armani Privé Encens Satin for continuing calmness 🙂
Goodness, who moves deadlines back? Hope Armani is doing its job. 🙂
Seriously. And in December no less.
I feel you. There’s been a lot of that at work for me lately, too — let’s get this out the door two weeks earlier than planned and without proper vetting. Ugh!
I’m in Lampblack today, which I think smells exactly like a bag of spice drops, but without the sugar. It’s my first time testing it, and I enjoy it a lot! But I do think it’s giving me a headache.
I love Lampblack!
Oh, boo hiss for a perfume-induced headache!
Oh shoot.
Hello, all, I’m wearing Amouage Fate this morning. It’s got benzoin and labdanum so it fits the CP nicely. This week is somewhat chilly here in Houston (though nothing like what many of you are dealing with), and that makes it especially nice to be trying out these somewhat dark resinous scents. I’m on the third day of trying to get the electric company to deal with a problem in our HOA that is keeping our gate open and our outdoor lights off. Not a good recipe for addressing the holiday spike in crimes. Wish me luck!
Fingers crossed for a quick resolution.
Fingers crossed for you!
Crime around here has become out of control and very scary.
Ugh, HOA issues! What a frigging pain. Hope that you can straighten everything out.
Good luck, calypso!
Rolled up to my usual parking spot yesterday to find the PoPo and security in the lot. Someone had their car broken into in broad daylight just steps from the ER (which is busy as hell with ambulance and foot traffic). Cops and security said it’s very rare around here but there you go… I found a spot to park in “no employee parking zone.” I hope they fire me for it. 😀 These hospital need to put security IN the parking lot, not just doing a drive by once every 12 hours. If it makes you feel any better, I recently read a book about light at night and studies have shown that street/outdoor lighting DOES NOT decrease crime. Turns out nefarious folk like to see what they’re doing when they’re up to no good…Motion lights are the way to go. I’ve outfitted my van with four, one on each side. 🚐
I hope you can get the gate issue fixed asap! This is why I won’t live on the ground floor, anybody sneaking in is going to need a verrry big ladder to get to my apartment! I felt like a fish in a fishbowl in that house in BC, so vulnerable.
Darn, forgot to rabbit this morning, after being on a roll for a few months!
I’m wearing Wazamba today, because I never got around to it last night. It’s wet wet wet outside, much needed rain. But I am happy to stay indoors, son is still home sick.
I hope your son feels better soon.
And you can have one set of my extra rabbits!
Thank you! You’ve got many sets to spare today!
Hi all! I said my rabbits plus extra for those who need them. It’s also De-lurking December! I’ve only been able to catch up here in the wee hours of the morning, but I’m hoping to have a lighter schedule for a bit.
Robin, I hope you continue to feel better.
I’m keeping things simple and will be sampling irises today: Hilde Soliani’s II Vs Iris, Parfum Satori’s Iris Homme, and I’ll re-visit Iris Pallida and Iris Porcelana. I recently tried L’Artisan’s Iris de Gris and liked it, but the drydown was nuclear and monotonous on me. I also liked Vetiver Ecarlate, but since historically I haven’t been a major vetiver fan, I was taken by surprise! I’ll revisit it. Btw, Robin I returned to your vetiver series so I can explore more now that I’ve come around!
I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the day.
I’ll be really curious to hear how your testing goes. I’m especially interested in Parfum Satori’s Iris, since it seems like it’s so hard to find.
Iris Homme reminds me somewhat of Pourpre d’Automne – it has that same chalky sort of iris. It’s also a bit floral and a bit rooty, very nicely blended. It opened with a huge blast of bitter lemon that quickly dissipated on me. Others seem to have a different experience with that aspect which leads me to think it might need spraying to have the full experience. Il Vs Iris is very interesting, a green floral iris that leans sweet. I loved the bright opening and the green pepper note, but in total it may be too sweet for me. Iris Porcelana is a smooth floral iris with a pretty creamy rose, but has the ubiquitous lackluster woody drydown on me. Iris Pallida is long discontinued, so nuff said!
Holly, thank you so much for your reviews. The comparison of Iris Homme to Pourpre d’Automne gives me a good sense of it and I love the floral/rooty combo. I don’t know Hilde Soliani’s II Vs Iris, Iris Pallida and Iris Porcelana or L’Artisan’s Iris de Gris but nuclear and monotonous don’t sound appealing.
Vetiver Ecarlate sounds interesting and I also want to try Parfum d’Empire’s Vetiver Bourbon since Persolaise, who isn’t usually a Vetiver fan because of the “swamp” aspect, raved about VB. Thanks again!
You’re welcome! Just the other day I was wondering why Vetiver Bourbon wasn’t getting more attention as Parfum d’Empire is so popular. I’ll have to watch Persolaise’s review. I always associated vetiver with damp tatami mats and raw peanuts!
Big “Hurray” for Delurking December!
Let’s see what happens!
Resins of the day are myrrh, incense, labsanum and benzoin. SOTD is Sideris
Very nice!
SOTD is 31 RC. Love it 💕
And I am sure it loves you!!
American Cream today.
I caught up on this week’s comments. Robin, I hope you feel better soon. Going to use your story to encourage Mr. She-ra to get his flu shot.🤞🏻
Meant to add that Luckyscent is doing an Advent Calendar where you click and get codes. See below.

Good tip … potentially more spending but not with today’s offer!
Smoothie is apples and yogurt
Was wearing La Poudrée by Lyn Harris (formerly from Miller-Harris) for Marks and Spencer, she did a brilliant trio of perfumes some years back, this one is my favorite, I find it elegant, the powder is just right, not suffocating, it smells like a perfume of the past but a well-judged fruity note of pear updates it; not much projection but still detectable on my wrist. LH now has her own line of fragrances, the name escapes me, but it’s out of my price range by a lot.
Tonight it’s Réminiscence Tonka, I always mean to compare it to Commodity Tonka.
I wish I could describe perfume the way you do Aurora.
Thank you Lillyjo but you’re too modest I always enjoy reading your impressions and choices.
Rem Tonka is one of your “snuggly” scents, correct?
You know me well😃, definitely snuggly, if I find my bottle of the commodity I’ll do a side by side soon.
I love wearing Rem Tonka to bed, so cozy.
That sounds like a perfect time for it, I find that it’s not much of a projector but lasts a long time.
My sotd is La Petite Robe Noire Couture.
I tripped and fell in my dark kitchen this morning. I hurt my shin but didn’t break anything. I guess that’s what I get for trying to save money on the electric bill. ( small lol on that one)
Owie! Don’t do that! My knees ached in sympathy after reading about your poor shin.
Maybe put a small night light in the kitchen? 💡
I’m definitely getting a nightlight!
Ouch! I like the nightlight idea but thinking it could have been worse but thank goodness it’s not!
It could have been much worse for sure.
Yikes! Glad you didn’t seriously hurt yourself! They have motion activated night lights, too. LED, so very long lasting and minimal energy usage. They also have one that sits on the bowl of the toilet and lights up with motion so when you sit, you have both cheeks where they belong! 🚽
Yow! My husband has motion activated nightlights all over the house for that reason.
Rabbits all around–I could use some good luck. Already today before noon I had a AAA call (needed a new battery) and a gas fireplace repair (don’t even ask!!). Less money for the rest of the month, but my car now starts and with at whistling wind out there, I need that extra fireplace heat. Yikes.
Wearing Oud Satin Mood and smelling warm and toasty.
Glad you got them taken care of!
You smell really, really good!
You smell great! Sorry about the issues, but both necessary.
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/ATMR5ettHz8
🐇🐇🐇! I have a spare set if anyone forgot today.
C-c-cold for New Jersey today! And blustery, too. Wind chills were below freezing when I went to take out recyclables and grab the mail. Definitely not a day to be running around in just a long sleeved T-shirt, no matter how thick. 🥶
SOTD = Smell Bent Incensed EdT, from the travel spray I grabbed before their closing sale. I smell root beer with this one!
Nice, very nice scent! It was very chilly today although I can’t help but think that far flung places that normally don’t get much snow is getting at least the flurries. I haven’t seen one flurry yet this season. Not that I am wishing for it, just curious about its absence.
No flurries here. It was cold enough, but dry, dry, dry!
The next precip event here is going to be rain.
Too cold today, especially after last night’s howling wind. I just came in from trash duty and need to warm up!!
Yeah, it’s been a couple of decidedly unpleasant days here. Let’s keep January weather in January!
I will take a spare set of rabbits please!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
W00t! Love this one! My countdown to Christmas begins today. I’ve set it up although my brain has a certain way of thinking as to what’s right and this one is not. Anyway, it is very pretty and colorful so I am accepting it as is. If you have access to IG, you can look up my highlights reel to see what it looks like. In the meantime, and I won’t be doing the photos this way all the time, you can see a preview of my tree with Chergui:
https://www.instagram.com/p/ClpJIdaO4Vw/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Love the countdown calendar and your smart looking Nutcracker! My countdown is more about which day each package is supposed to arrive with what Christmas gift in it!! I need a list to be sure that all of them get here in time to wrap and put under the tree.
Cool idea for a countdown!
We are twins one day apart! 😊
Cute countdown display!
