Wednesday scent of the day 11/30

Posted by Robin on 30 November 2022 130 Comments

Happy Hump Day! Birthdays today: Mark Twain, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Shirley Chisholm, Dick Clark. What fragrance are you wearing?

Still commando, still sick. Might get better by Friday, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Just remembered I forgot the teapot yesterday.

Reminder: on 12/2 we're doing Ancient Resins...wear a fragrance with a significant resin component, or one inspired by ancient history. Suggested by Desirae.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing a tiny amount of Clinique Wrappings Body Smoother.

Coffee and a couple of triple ginger cookie thins.

    Happy Wednesday! ☕️

Triple ginger cookie thins sound tempting. I am making do with a chocolate & blueberry bar.

And having fallen in love with it all over again, later today, I’ll be back in Ambre Sultan.

Wearing Mitsouko today. I think I might have the “bad” reformulation just after the oakmoss ban before Guerlain tweaked it again, but it still smells beautiful to me, very austere with surely the driest peach in fragrance history.

From what I can tell the bad reformulation was supposed to be around 2009 or 2010, and it was fixed by about 2013. There’s more info on Bois de Jasmin’s entry on Mitsouko becuase Victoria compared the versions.

I read that it was 2015, but that might have been a different reformulation issue.

According to the Washington Post, Mitsouko was tweaked in 2007 and Victoria of Bois de Jasmin puts the second, more successful reformulation at about 2013. The batch code on my bottle begins with 7, which I believe is for 2007 and I think I bought it about 2008 or so.

      • Desirae says:

I was wrong, according to the Washington Post Mitsouko was reformulated in 2007:

I saw this on Fragrantica, looks like there have been multiple issues:

In 2014, Takasago ceased the production of a methylionone compound, leading to a problem of Symrise’s iriséine, which then lead to the stinky 2015 batches of Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue. From my research, there is a big problem with batches 5Txx, 5Uxx, etc.

    that he’s a L’Ombre dans L’Eau fan.

I overslept for the first time in a very long time — a big rainstorm kept me up for part of the night but I think I still got close to 11 hours of 😴. Commando right now, but will probably go with LVDP Hindu Kush in a bit. Oh, and Mr. G has fallen hard for Italian Leather, to the point of pretending to grab the bottle away from me. It’s fun to introduce friends to scent and watch them make discoveries, but I truly never expected that my husband would get into it this much. 🥰

Robin, I hope you feel better soon and can take things easy until you do.

It’s been a very cold spring here but I was out in the cemetery the other morning as I hadn’t been for a long while. There was a rain shower and everything was dripping. Every rose bush was in full bloom…there’s around 1000, mostly heritage roses from the 1860s-1930s , from when the cemetery was functioning. The scent just seemed to lift from the ground, a blend of lipstick scented roses, carnation scented roses, peppermint roses and velvety roses. So wonderful. White, pink, yellow, magenta, apricot, crimson, red…so many colours. Rabbit rabbit rabbit. It’s meant to be summer now and it’s only 7C.

I came across this book in the library the other day and thought of you. I have only just started browsing through it but it’s about Crime and Ounishment and the aspects of Dostoevsky’s own life that fed into it, and the main character.

Of his works, I’ve only ever taught The Underground Man and the Grand Inquisitor section of BK, because this are things we tend to cover in philosophy classes (sadly excising GI from the contest of the novel, which is a crime in itself). You may have said this but what is your favorite of his books, just to read? Mine is The Idiot.

It seems fortuitous that our CP this week is ancient resins since I just happened to order some Papillon samples last week, and now I’m very well-equipped this week. Wow, this is some strong and stinky stuff! But in a good way. I’m trying Salome today since I don’t plan on going anywhere. I didn’t dab on a lot but I’m not getting all the supposedly “dirty” stuff it has. I’m picking up all the pretty florals instead. Hmmm. To my nose Anubis was a lot more “questionable” (but I loved the dry down especially). Salome has styrax. I’ve always heard of all these resins but don’t know enough to tell them apart or discern them well–something I must do more to investigate. We have a beautiful clear morning and it’s cool–yesterday got up to 83F, which is ridiculous for late November!

No resin for me in Shalimar Tonka. Had a morning meeting, and my husband and I frittered around trying to decide if we’d get a Christmas tree today. After lots of rain last night, we were just left with gale warnings and overcast skies. We decided to wait…which was good. Just driving without a tree on the roof was challenging enough.

Tonight is dinner with friends followed by some bluegrass music.

Mancera Roses Vanille. I like the powdery vanilla aspect, but there is a weird cardboard note underneath. Sometimes it is stronger than others, and that note is really strong today.

I’m on day two of benzoin for the CP with Diptyque Benjoin Boheme. Yesterday was the wonderful and sadly discontinued Kilian Amber Oud.

Yucky weather here. I am twins with everyone complaining about windy and wet. The Chewy.com delivery I was expecting today was on the very soggy grass! The person couldn’t be bothered to walk 2 more feet and put it on my steps? SMH. 😡💧☔ Thankful my order was in a plastic bag.

SOTD = still in Box of Eels EdT. Maybe I am trying to thunk a sample? 😉

That is one lazy delivery person! And it was indeed so yucky out I don’t even feel like taking out the garbage.

Your sample may be thunked soon!

      That’s crazy lazy!
Is it a dabber or spray sample?
I find dabbers easier to thunk because when it gets down to the end I just pour it on my arms.

It’s a dabber sample. I currently have less than 1/4 of it left. But I have had some very tenacious samples in the past!

Ambra Aurea today, since I never got around to perfume yesterday (it was that kind of day). Miserable, cold, and wet here, too — there was even sleet a couple hours ago. So I baked a loaf of bread (the Irish brown bread I mentioned a few weeks ago), and just ate a piece of it, still warm, with an irresponsible amount of good cultured butter (left over from Thanksgiving) and a nice mug of strong tea.

This is my all time favorite perfume from the house!

I did not purchase any Advent calendars this year … not a one! I do have a Countdown Calendar I bought on sale at Target last year and I think it is really pretty. I’ll practice making a reel out of it and if that’s somehow not successful, I will post a series of photos. OK? OK! Now I just need to figure out how to tie it in with perfume … I have ideas and the winning idea will be revealed tomorrow for the start of the countdown! Wahoo!

The m.micaleff (sp?) Advent Calendar was being widely promoted on YouTube. The promoters were all gifted one. It seemed nice enough.

Robin, I hope you kick this nasty flu very very soon.

I’m still, meh, in a limbo of being mildly sick. Dropped my husband off at the airport today and my son is still home sick. I’m very optimistic he’ll be ok for school tomorrow.

SOTD is Slow Dance, not CP complaint. But ringthing just inspired my SOTE, it will be Wazamba!

Wow, several mistakes here, should be compliant not complaint! And I was even wrong about Slow Dance, it is CP compliant with opoponax AND labdanum. I learnt something new today!

You’re not brain dead, I don’t think I ever said. I’m not even sure what I have, I thought I had a mild flu, but now I have some congestion so maybe it’s a cold. I’ve tested negative for Covid. My son had, what I thought was a cold, all last week! I think we’re a jumble of ills, minus Covid! 😆

Wearing Eau des Merveilles mostly because I needed something to counter the grey, wet day. It does have Elemi resin but I needed the orange! 🍊

No rain, but it was very cold and damp here for most of the day. Unfortunately I went to a Tibetan cultural event that I didn’t realize would be all outdoors and froze. Going to take a hot shower and put on my woolies in an attempt to not get sick. I wore TRNP Bodhi Tree, now I’m going to delve into some samples.
