Monday scent of the day 11/28

Posted by Robin on 28 November 2022 127 Comments

It's Monday and National French Toast Day, and I'm in bed with the flu. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm commando, and likely to remain so for the rest of the day.

Reminder: oops, we still don't have a project for Friday. Hopefully I'll get to that later today.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Krazy Krizia, a favorite of mine, from a full bottle that I’ve had for years. Perfect for fall, but unfortunately, although I love it, it rarely comes to mind. I remembered it this weekend though, and decided to wear it today.

I have a cherished mini of KK – it’s the kind of perfume that makes me smile when I smell it!

I am commando too since I am taking some of my friends to perfume sniffing.
They showed some interest in perfumes so we will go to Etiket, Guerlain Spa and Ogilvie’s to try the new perfumes and then have lunch. The weather is surprisingly nice for end of November.

I’m in Tam Dao. My 30 ml bottle is really getting low. Debating if I should just set it aside for travel and get a big bottle. I’ll be sad when the 30 mls is gone, it was the LE tinted bottle, and it’s a cutie.
Currently sitting by the fire in my daughter’s student union waiting to catch some breakfast with her in between classes and then I will head for home. Trying not to be too melancholy today because I will be back here in 3 short weeks for her graduation. It’s sunny and clear for my drive home.😎

Lol, it’s just a matter of time. I need to order a decant of the edp and spend some time with it so I know which formula to get. I have the edt, and while I love it, it doesn’t seem to last long.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling under the weather, Robin. I have a suggestion for the Friday project: ancient resins week, where we wear a fragrance with a significant resin component, or one inspired by ancient history.

Take care of yourself and get well, Robin!
    I am still commando too.

A short update on my life in Sweden. Still here, registered my business and even found a Swedish accountant to help me (pro bono). However, with a high cost of living in Sweden and high (around 50%) taxes, we will probably be moving to another country by spring. We are well, except my mother’s teeth got worse (her bridge on one side completely fell out), but we are managing. Kora is well.

I have been reading the chat of the building where I lived in Ukraine, and things are pretty bad there. There is often no electricity, and the building’s heating depends on electricity. There is often no water as well. The temperature in the flats is currrently around 14C (57F), and it is only 0C outside. It will be colder, and there will probably be more missile strikes. My neighbors are trying to find money for a generator. That made me wonder if I can help with my knowledge of English. How does one organize crowdfounding, spread the word? I know gofundme.com exists, but I think it is for US only? Are there any international platforms? Is there someone here with related experience who can advise?

I’m so sorry to hear this bad news about your former building and neighbors. I don’t know what to suggest but will try to ask some friends for ideas. I’m also sorry about your mother’s teeth, that’s awful! I hope she gets some help. Thank you for this update. Please give sweet Kora some kisses from me.

Thank you! I keep reading the chat, and I am not sure whether anything comes out of it, because, as some people pointed out, the costs to buy the generator is one thing, but there are also running and maintenance costs (fuel etc.) They might get a smaller generator and set up a warm center/bank in the basement, where people from the building can charge their phones and get warm.

Hello! I’m sorry to to hear about your building. Victoria at Bois de Jasmin set up some fundraisers-maybe you could email her and ask her how she did it. And if you have the cookbook author Olia Hercules on Insta, she is a Ukranian, and she’s set up fundraisers, too. Hoping for good things for the stoic people of the Ukraine.

I went scentless today because I knew it was going to be a high intensity work day. Probably will help my nose reset, too :)

Seconding Desirae’s community project idea, and have a suggestion of my own: wear a fragrance that works even (or especially) when you’re sick.

I’m also commando so far — woke up with an extra-stiff back, so will spritz something on after I take a long, hot, therapeutic shower. Happy Monday!

You are really amazing, Robin, to be able to post a nice picture as usual, even when sick, to keep our community going. I really hope you will feel better before too long.

Today I’m trying my sample of Vilhelm Basilico &Fellini, given to me by the nice man at Fumerie in Portland. It’s different, is about the best I can say. Basil, fig, dragon fruit, hay, juicy, very green. It gives me a nose tickle, and is not something I’d want to own.

So sorry Robin. Covid, now flu. Yikes. Hope you feel better soon.

I woke up with very red watery eyes yesterday. Today I figure it’s some form of pink eye again. I swear, the puffiness/water under my eyes is scary. My eyes have become weirdly sensitive. I think it’s viruses, not bacteria.

Anyway….felt the need for cherry blossom today, so BBW Japanese Cherry Blossom it is. Will bring the scented hand sanitizer to work to protect others.

I have a question for y’all: where is the best place to sell perfumes? I have a near full bottle of Chanel 28 La Pausa that is wasted on me. I looked at eBay and Mercari but their fees are annoyingly high (>10%). I’d much rather sell directly to someone in the community.

My commiserations to everyone not feeling well, colds and flu are miserable experiences. I got my second Covid booster the day before yesterday, so I should have maximum protection when I’m visiting my mother for Christmas. I’m one of the lucky people who doesn’t get side effects any vaccines I’ve had so far, other than a slightly sore arm at the site for a day or so.
I’m wearing a lot of green while I still have some green colour in my hair, but I might be underdressed for today, I’m not sure it’s going to be quite the right weather for a light silk. Perfume-wise, I’m wearing Amouage Beloved.

Pulled on a heavy duty fleece this morning and smelled left over Ambra Aurea so I decided that would be my SOTD. Two sprays from my perfect size travel spray bottle. Love this!

I’m embarrassed to say how long I slept but if felt so dang good! T-Rex woke me early with her tap tap tap on my head for potty time, and then we went back to bed! All told, a total of 14 hours! BUT, I was making up for sleep I didn’t get on my last 3 day work stretch, so it all evens out in my mind.

The park we go to now has a Christmas tree lot and yesterday I saw a family strapping a tree onto the top of their Subaru, which gave me feelings of nostalgia for some reason. We never had a live tree when I was a kid, so I don’t know what that about…Hoping the family has a lovely holiday as they orbit that tree for the next month or so! 🎄

A tub of garlic pesto spilled all over the bottling of my fridge, so it looks like I have a project for today..🙃

Oh, and Twisted Lily has 20% off purchases of over $75 today! Go for it!!

Robin, hope you feel better soon! I just learned that I have one colleague out with COVID and another with RSV — which made me anxious about the in-person lunch meeting I had on campus today.

Wearing a sweater with traces of Roísín Dubh; otherwise, commando, since one of my lunch mates is very sensitive to fragrance.

I can’t remember, but someone mentioned the perfume the Vatican uses and I have been hunting. Anyone?

These sales! I’m supposed to be shopping for others. Maybe one.
Looking at resins, but thoughts on Cow, Palo Santo, Musk Therapy and Santo Incensio.

Bonus: An only patchouli lotion would be heavenly.

Thanks and hope everyone is on the mend. Robin, no need for a project, just Project Get Well.💜

So sorry to hear you’re still down with the flu, Robin.

I’m in Felanilla today. ‘Tis the season for it. :) Also, I’m all stuffed up and need something comforting that I can smell easily. Just a cold, fortunately.

I got inspired earlier this afternoon to pull out several strings of Xmas lights from basement storage. I haven’t put lights up since 2008 or thereabouts… long story. I now have some zip ties to secure some to the handrails on the front steps. That will be my project for tomorrow. And I might put up another string or two inside around some windows. 🎄

Hope that you are feeling less horrible today Robin.

I plugged in a string earlier today to see if there were any burned out bulbs or not. Probably should test all the sets before messing around with them.

I love long stories. Too curious.

I’m paralyzed with Christmas getting ready. Loved hearing from a family member how FAB their place is already. 🙄

Robin, your chestnuts picture inspired me to wear Castana by Cloon Keen Atelier today, which is all about chestnut and is lovely and easygoing. Definitely one I’d buy if it came in a size smaller than 100ml (well, I probably don’t need 50ml either but 10-30 would be great). I hope you’re feeling a bit better today.

I’m sure I’m not the only one having a case of the Mondays. I was getting some good sleep when my alarm went off at 6:25. How rude!

I decided on a day of grubby work and was almost commando but spied a neglected bottle of Avon Haiku. It was fleeting but I enjoyed it very much. Post shower “official” SotD will be late this evening but y’all are giving me some good ideas!

Does your Avon come in a fun bottle? I’ve recently fallen into a rabbit hole of browsing vintage Avon perfume bottles and there are so many cute ones!

It’s not one of the figural one, just the regular Haiku bottle which I think evokes a pagoda. Yes, count me a fan of Avon’s bottles: I have quite a few including Betsy Ross, a unicorn, some birds, and a cat or three! It is a total rabbit hole, and I do occasionally wear the perfumes, which seem to age well.

For those not Cyber-Mondaying or even if you are, these are freebies for anyone who had posted on NST in the month of November 2022, lives in the continental U.S., okay with getting stuff in the next two weeks (although be warned that I may fail in this). All I ask is that once you receive the package, love it or hate it, don’t mention it because I am giving away some FBs and I don’t want to have 2nd thoughts. Add me to the list of those not feeling well! Although I’m not 100% there yet. My son has had a cold this past week, and I’m starting to feel something coming on. Hope I can fight it.

SOTD is Amber Imperial, from a sample. I found it when I went hunting for my sample of Noir Exquis. I was inspired by the photo of chestnuts! No luck finding it though.

Robin, I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry that you are under the weather, Robin (and so many others among our fragrant friends)…rest, hydrate, and continue to mend. I am getting ready for some shots in my knees in hopes of easing the pain without surgery. And, facing a really BIG birthday on Sunday–what should I wear to take my mind off the number of candles on the cake? All suggestions welcome….

      Happy Almost Birthday!

I agree that whatever you choose, what matters most is how you feel in it (aka wonderful).

And are we assuming you already own said perfume? Is there a chance you’ve been holding off purchasing something you’ve sniffed and love and love yourself in? Just checking because it’s a BIG birthday, after all🥂❤️💃
