Happy Pepper Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a peppercorn note...pink (aka schinus molle or baies rose), black or white.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Points for me, in Bvlgari Omnia's black pepper.
Reminder: on 11/25, pick your Black Friday poison...wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in the remnants of a mini bottle of Si Lolita, which goes on my skin with a distinctly peppery note. It has pink pepper listed as a middle note in Fragrantica, but going on it is all about the pepper. It’s been years since I wore it, so I was glad to rediscover it.
I have not worn it in ages either…did not remember it was so peppery but I see Jessica’s review agrees with you 🙂
That mini bottle must be adorable! Si Lolita had a great bottle design.
That would have been perfect! I just wore some Trefle Pur since I was meeting friends in a restaurant today.
Commando as yet; I’m going to a memorial service this afternoon, so will need to think about something that won’t cause problems in what is sure to be a very, very packed room.
I’ve decided to return my Sephora fails that I mentioned yesterday. I thought about keeping the fragrance for a future swap meet, but The two returns together are enough money to get me some thing that maybe I will actually use, Even though at this point I’ll end up paying full price.
Happy weekend, everyone! My social media feed is full of photos of friends and their kids playing in deep deep snow from yesterday.
Hope the memorial service was a comfort, skalolazka.
My condolences for your loss. I hope the service was a fitting memorial.
A memorial service is probably the most difficult situation I can think of regarding perfume. Hopefully it brought some closure for you.
Oeillet Bengale in all its peppery goodness.
I see the sun trying to break through out there. Was quite gloomy earlier. We still have some snow on the branches, so a bit of sunlight would be welcome.
I have realized I’m well set for the holidays (and probably winter itself) in terms of chocolate. The chocolate truffles from Marks & Spencer, the Frangos that are on their way, the chocolate salted caramels from Costco (beyond delicious) and the coconut chocolate almonds, also from Costco.
There’s a car parade in the bigger town south of us tonight, followed by tree lighting. The parade passes through the downtown business district and the stores unwrap their holiday windows. Tomorrow morning is a second parade with Santa. Life in a Hallmark movie….
Frangos!!! 😋 It’s been years since I’ve had them! My mother used to bring them back from shopping trips to Chicago when there was still a Marshall Field’s.
And you smell delicious!
I love holiday parades. We’re having a little winter festival in my neighborhood tomorrow night and I might have to go check it out.
Just ordered some Frangos. I remember my mom getting them from Frederick & Nelson, somehow connected to Marshall Fields. (Mom grew up in Seattle.)
I ❤️ your chocolate choices. And R.I.P. Marshall Field’s. I grew up shopping there, worked there during college, my favorite store.
I just got a big box from my current favorite brand, so I am set too! But I do not even know what Frangos are and afraid to look 😉
What’s your current favorite brand, Robin?
And, regarding the Frangos, be afraid. Be very afraid. 😂
Late reply, so sorry…it is Moka Origins. They are a PA brand, oddly. They make a wonderful Lemon Ginger bar and a wonderful Cherry bar. I also like several of the plain bars, but for some reason I am not a fan of the Sea Salt one.
THANKS, Robin! I’ll check them out. 😋
Can I come spend Christmas at your house? Your chocolate situation is amazing.
What exactly are Frangos? Never heard of them before.
You can find on the Macy’s site.
They are smallish chocolates with a truffle-like consistency and melt in your mouth. Traditional is dark chocolate mint. I also like the candy cane ones that have flecks of candy cane in them. They’re great as an after-dinner mint.
Thank you both!
Day 5/5 of the Lush Garden set, which leaves only Lust, probably my favourite jasmine ever, so sexxxy. No community points — I was going to add a splash of Demeter Black Pepper but the morning kind of got away from me.
Yep, can smell that jasmine from here 😉
I recently found a small solid of Lust and a partial bottle of the EdP. And on goes the great jasmine jag…
Dang, you smell good. I love Lust.
(That doesn’t sound right, but I’m leaving it there!)
Does Lust smell differently in the solid versus liquid form?
I’ll report back when the liquid arrives😊
Thanks!
I have an old 10-mL (maybe 15 years old?), a solid from about five years ago, and a brand-new replacement 10-mL, and they’re VERY close: the newest version isn’t quite right at the very top but after that it’s fantastic. It’s a real surprise to see how closely the solid matches the liquid: usually solids simplify, cut a bunch of corners, and hack off the top entirely (all for technical reasons, I expect), but the Lust solid is really, really good, and ridiculously affordable.
This sounds good. I love jasmine❤️
Cold, bright and breezy here today, although no snow yet, for which I am grateful.
For today’s CP, I’m copying LizzieB from yesterday and wearing Ta’if. This has remained one of my favorites since I first bought it. When I wear it, I feel cozy yet elegant. Although looking elegant is something I rarely achieve (especially since Covid,) I can always smell that way, lol!
You smell fantastic AnnE!
Twins!🙌
Twins with LizzieB In Oeillet Bengale.
Nice to see carnation make a good showing.
The CP’s are so helpful to get things back in Perfume Fort circulation!
CP-adjacent with pink pepper in Saturday. No time to think of much else — cleaners are here and still having to deal with chaos at work.
Good luck with the chaos! At least the house will be clean?
You smell great. I didn’t realize there was pink pepper in Saturday.
I think pink pepper fully counts for today’s CP, so you’re good!
SOTM (and probably the post-shower portion of the day as well) is SMN Eva. This is the very first fragrance I ever tried with a black pepper note and I was so surprised at how nicely it blends with orange blossom and lemon. Eva is in my top five favorites list, if anyone is wondering. 🙂 Happy Friday everyone!
YUM.
Indeed!
If it’s in your top 5, that means I must try it! I think we’re almost-scent-twins.
Wearing Epic Man from a decant today for the CP today. Epic man might not be my cup of tea but I am working today and wasn’t about to have Memoir ruined by insane customers.
LOL — good thinking!
That was a good decision!
Exactly. There are several frags I can’t wear because of associations.
I’m twinning with SheriG in a top 5 favorite, mine is Donna Karan Black Cashmere. It lists white pepper as a note and smells so good.
Top 5 twins!
Maybe I’ll wear that tomorrow!
Points for me in the very peppery Jo Malone Orris and Sandalwood.
I’m fighting the onset of a cold, but I think the cold is winning. I will be faking enthusiasm for the next few hours until I can go home and collapse. At least the weekend is almost here!
I hope you get a good rest and snuggle up for the weekend.
Get lots of rest and push fluids, hopefully it will pass quickly.
Hope you feel better after a good rest. Take care. 🤗
I hope you feel better soon!
I will have to try that one again! I remember it as being too sweet on me, but I may have confused it with something else.
Baby yourself this weekend if you can. 🫖
Oh yuck. Hope that it passes quickly!
Feel better soon. Rest and fluids like Ringthing said.
CP compliant in ELdO Eau de Protection with pepper in the top notes.
Plus you smell great.
The original artwork for that perfume bottle was so cool, with the dragon.
Yes, that was neat. Mine doesn’t have that.
The current bottle isn’t that bad, though. It could be a lot worse.

The 18th marks the 100 year anniversary of Proust’s death and I’m still haven’t finished In Search of Lost Time. For some reason reading it has become the literary equivalent of sticking to a diet. I start well, but after two weeks become frustrated by how little progress I am making and turn to something easier and more appealing…like this Ann Carson poem about Albertine. Wearing Autumn Vibes as we have been living in the mist for three days now, and it has pepper.
Kanuka! We’ve been celebrating your country’s fine women here in Oakland. First, the new New Zealand parliament, and then the rugby world cup (much whistling and swearing emanating from Mr. Fresca throughout the game as I puttered about the house talking to the cat and folding laundry).
I can’t remember now how many years it took me, but I whipped through several long series (CP Snow Strangers & Brothers, Anthony Powell Dance to the Music of Time, etc) in about 1/4 of the time. In the end I am not sure it improved my life any, but maybe it did, who knows.
I called it a day after finishing Volume 1. In my view, life is too short to finish books or movies that aren’t worth the time. 😎
Volume 1 turned out to be my favorite of the whole thing, so I can’t argue with that.
So . . . I washed my hands this morning with Juniper Sling hand soap and racked up my compliance point. Then I applied copious amounts of the very pretty tea scent, Bois Belize Intense, from the splitmeet 😉
Good thinking!
No points for me today, was too excited to plough on with the Hiram Green samples. Today it is Vetiver. Very nice, well done and I love almost all Vetiver-centric perfumes. But relieved that it hasn’t created a lemming, I already have other vetivers that accomplish pretty much the same thing.
It is really hard to improve on what’s out there. I don’t mind having a handful but IMHO nobody has really improved on Guerlain Vetiver and FM Vetiver Extraordinaire.
I had a sample set of them not too long ago. They are very nice.
SOTD = Parfumerie Generale Indochine 25

I was inspired by SheriG’s wearing of this (if I am not mistaken) and that it has pepper. Points for moi!
Cutting and running for now as it has turned out to be quite a busy Friday, especially since I thought it was Saturday.
Lol, I keep thinking it’s Saturday also. What is that?
Seriously…
Yup, it was me. I got Mr. G to try it last night, and it’s extra peppery on him. His skin sort of de-sweetens fragrances — it’s interesting to observe.
I can see how the same perfume can smell very different on some people!
That means you get an extra Saturday?
Well, if it was Saturday, that means I am now halfway through my weekend so it’s just as well that it’s a working Friday!
Does that mean you get to have some fun on “for reals” Saturday?
Hermes Poivre Samarcande for the cp, with a bit of leftover Ummagumma in one elbow. Ha–I’m almost always a patchwork of fragrance.
Pet peeve: Just read another article mentioning “Karens” who act obnoxious and entitled. I understand the point, but it makes me sad — my younger sister’s name is Karen and she’s started calling herself a nickname instead because she gets so much crap about it. I always thought it was a cool name. Very unfortunate for all the nice Karens in the world.
It makes me sad too. I’m of the age where Karen was a popular girls name – see also Lisa, Susan and Cathy – so I know some nice Karens, too.
Thanks, ringthing. I think we are the same (or close) era. 🙂
Oh, that stinks. Your poor sister!
Argh. I just saw a tv show with a character named Karen who makes the same complaint (of course now I can’t remember what it was.)
The wikipedia article on Karens is reasonably nuanced, but also includes a photo of the inverted bob, thus ruining the inverted bob for everybody else.
I hate those memes that take a female name and ruin it. You don’t see any male names getting the same (mis)treatment.
Yes, this topic gets me hot under the collar! 😡🤬
Um, what about Dick? (hope this isn’t being inappropriate)
Ah, I forgot about the anatomical reference. Mea culpa.
Another one very disgusted by this meme, and not just because I have dear friend with the name!
I’m wearing La Couche du Diable from the split-meet. Surely the Devils bedsheets must have some pepper sprinkled about..? 👹
My brother once sprinkled pepper in my bedsheets when we were sharing a hotel room. He was annoyed when I spotted it and refused to sleep in that bed, and my parents made him sleep in it instead.
(White sheets, black pepper. What was he thinking???)
Ha! Brothers are all the same. Mine drank a 6 pack of beer and placed the empties in the trash can in my room. I was 9 and he was 14 at the time. 🙄
In a reverse little sister move, I stole a $5 bill from my brother when I was 5 and he was 11. Because I was 5, I didn’t come up with a very plausible cover story when my mother asked me where I got it. But, to add insult to injury, my brother had written down the serial numbers on all of his money and gleefully confronted me with his incontrovertible evidence! It’s hard being a little sister☹️
😂!!
You would think, right? It is sweeter on me than spicy.
Every time I see that perfume name, I get Beck’s song “Devils Haircut” going thru my head…
I love that song.
I’m in Caron Parfum Sacre for the community project today.
Got a couple sample packs from surrender to chance for my birthday so here are some reviews:
Narcisse Noir EDT: I’ve already tried the legendary extrait, which is like if a beautiful floral died and then came back wrong, so I expected the EDT to be kind of sunny in comparison. And it is, but I still found it surprisingly moody and mysterious. I think it’s the narcissus note, which is such a strange standoffish scent to come from a cheerful looking flower. I might try and hunt some of this up as the parfum is unfortunately likely out of my reach.
Aromatics Elixir: used to think this was the sharpest, sourest thing out there. I think I almost get it now. It is tart, but it’s more herbal than bitter. Dry as a bleached bone. I’m assured there are flowers in this but I can’t smell them.
Caron Nuit de Noel: This is fascinating. It’s so naturalistic – burnished wood, moss, maybe musk — that it almost becomes a feeling more than a perfume. Nostalgic somehow, but has nothing to do with what we think of as Christmas scents. Though it came out in the art deco era it seems squarely art nouveau to me. I would wear it if I had a bottle, even though it isn’t my usual bombastic style.
Worth Je Reviens: grown up, classy floral with a humming musky base. So well blended you can’t tell the notes apart. The kind of perfume that went extinct with the girdle.
Estee Lauder Aliage: clean white floral, found this one a bit dull.
Chloe: Tide on steroids. Terrible. The list of notes was so promising.
Je Reviens was my signature scent for so many years back in the day. Just wonderful.
They have the parfum at fragrancenet.com for a little over $50, though of course I can’t make promises about the quality. Still seems like a good deal though.
Thanks, I do have some. It just doesn’t seem quite the same.
Your review of Narcisse Noir is spot on and you smell lovely in Parfum Sacre.
I don’t wear girdles anymore but Je Reviens is my favorite vintage floral scent and I still wear it!
I don’t think there were any sunny old school Carons other than Alpona? But maybe I’m forgetting something.
I love Aromatics Elixir and don’t get any floral notes from it at all. Also agree with you on it being a dry scent. Not at all sour/tart to my nose, though.
Thank you for describing your experiences with these interesting fragrances. I really enjoyed your thought-provoking reviews!
Accidentally getting some CP points in Bois Imperial from Essential Parfums, which has some peppery notes…
Happy Friday everyone!
Yay for accidental points!
Points for me in TDC Rose Poivree. This rose-hater appreciates this one so much, since rose is just the supporting player here.
My cheap thrill for next week will be Rumba, I think.
Great cheap thrill!
That one was great, very skanky, civet rich rose, a while ago, but I think it has been defanged in the reformulation..? Either way, great choice!
I’m wearing Bois d’Armenie today, which has pink pepper. It smells so good.
Have a great weekend, everyone. For those in the snow, keep warm and safe!
You smell great
You smell wonderful and I did not know Bd’A had that note. I just love its warm incense notes.
I am wearing Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land.
I am enjoying my day off , went to library , worked on new fun projects .
How do you like that Byredo? I enjoy some of them, but not all.
🥳 Celebrating myself today with the coldest birthday I can ever remember – it’s only 26 degrees with gusty winds! A week ago yesterday it was 76 degrees!
But lots of good wishes from friends, no chores or cooking today – breakfast and dinner out – and a huge flock of the Sandhill cranes I love flying directly over my home, their distinctive calls saying Happy Day!, warmed up the day considerably. Will be spending the rest of the afternoon with William Kent Krueger’s latest Cork O’Conner novel, Fox Creek – bought it at his book signing in September but saved it for today. 😻😻and 😻 are already lined up for turns in my lap. 😹
My SOTD for the cp is YR Cuir de Nuit, a nice mélange of vanilla/coffee/cacao with a dash of pink pepper to spice it up a bit. The cacao adds a dry rather than a sweet note to this gourmand, making this a warm and cozy, almost woodsy, scent.
November’s classic film series at our historic theater this week was National Velvet from 1944 with a 12-year old Elizabeth Taylor; I first saw it when I was about her age in that film and it’s what made me fall in love with horses. If you’ve never seen it or haven’t in awhile, I highly recommend it as a ‘feel good’ wonderful respite from our troubled world. She is absolutely fantastic!
Looking forward to a classical piano 🎹 concert on Sunday and then celebrating our three November birthdays with my son’s family on Thanksgiving. 🙏
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!🍁
Very happy birthday to you! I hope you have a year full of health and joy.
Happy birthday Laila! Enjoy your dinner out, and stay warm!
Happy Birthday to you! 🎂 Sounds like a nice line up for the weekend.
Happy Birthday!🎉
Happy Birthday, Laila! 🎉🎂🎁 You smell fabulous!
Thanks for the mention of a new-to-me mystery series. 😉
I loved National Velvet. Taylor was luminously beautiful in that film.
Kent’s Cork series is so much more than a mystery series; it’s a family saga set in the Boundary Waters wilderness area of Minnesota with a strong emphasis on Native American culture. I strongly encourage you to visit his website and FB page to learn more and meet him at one of his book signings, if possible – he also does a lot of Zoom appearances, too, and has written several wonderful stand-alone books as well. . I’ve met him many times over the years; he is not only a talented writer but a wonderful human being as well. Hope you enjoy!
https://williamkentkrueger.com/
Thanks so much for this info, Laila! I will do that.
Happy birthday, Laila!
Happy Scented Birthday, Laila! 🎊🎂🥂🎁
Happy Birthday and I love that you have the =^v^=’s lined up for lap-time!
Happy Birthday 🎈
Have a wonderful birthday and a happy year!
Happy Birthday, Laila! And thank you for the reminder about Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet – those beautiful violet eyes!
Happy Birthday, Laila!
Thank you all for your good wishes. It was a nice relaxing day and I didn’t have to cook at all, had breakfast and dinner at my two favorite restaurants – how wonderful was that? 😸
No CP points for me. I grabbed a hoodie I wore earlier this week and sniffed something glorious on the cuffs, so I had to repeat it. I’m in Resonance from Provision Scents.
Very cool here, and I am super grateful that our fireplace was fixed today! Woo hoo!!
I’m in Ta’if. This one can be a bit much for me so dabbing from a sample is just fine.
Another gray day here.😞 The sun has tried to peek out a couple of times, but it didn’t stay very long. Really hoping for a full day of sun soon! It’s been awhile.
Scent twins! ☺️
I would happily trade you my windy but sunny weather for a calm, cloudy day!
Points for me, I am wearing DSH Poivre, advertised as a spicy oriental and a”very traditional take on the form…kind of like Opium with a pepper dominance.” Yep. I love vintage Opium and this scents hits all the right, spicy, clove and pepper notes. I got a sample of it long time ago and today I remembered to try it! I love black pepper notes in perfumes even though I can’t handle black pepper in food, it makes me sneeze. It’s like the pepper soup scene in Alice in Wonderland every time I go near it. In perfumes though, bring it on. I definitely smell it in vintage Mitsouko, too, which is my winter holiday scent that will soon get an outing.
That DSH Poivre sounds really good!
Ahhh, sadly, I didn’t know what this week’s CP was, and missed an opportunity to wear CDG Blackpepper. Instead, I am wearing Dior Mitzah (yum!). But I’m stunned to see no one else here wore Blackpepper! I suppose it’s an underloved scent.
Today is my last day of work before the Thanksgiving holidays. My mother is visiting from the east coast, to enjoy our better weather and see the new house, so we will be taking a number of day trips next week before the grand day of feasting.
Have fun with your mother while she is there!
Thanks, Kris!
Enjoy the time with your Mom!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
I started off the CP week in CdG Blackpepper and love it! I couldn’t resist a FB – it’s such an unusual, breathtaking fragrance.
Ah! Good to know 🙂 yes, I agree; it’s gorgeous. I get a lot of frankincense from it. My one gripe is the bottle; it takes up too much room in my perfume drawer lying down!
Chilly and windy afternoon walk to the bank for me today. Add in people doing utility work on my street this afternoon, and it was quite interesting here. And noisy.
SOTD = Agent Provocateur L’Agent EdP. I checked notes on Fragrantica, and sure enough, this one has pink pepper listed as a top note. So I wore what I wanted to, and got CP points to boot! Yay!
Haven’t you been wearing that most of the week or am I thinking of someone else?
Very perceptive! I have been wearing L’Agent since Sunday. 🤣😎
Well, you must like it. I don’t think I have tried it unless it was a long time ago. It’s quite inexpensive now. Maybe I should get some.
Where have you seen it? I have been looking.
The only place I saw bottles of L’Agent were on EvilBay. Maybe I will check out those other spots.
Jomashop
And Fragrancenet
Chanel Paris Paris 🌹. Peppery rose 😃
CP fail, but I’m happy on this wintry day: vintage SL Bois et Fruits
You smell fabulous!
For the CP win, Sonia Rykiel Woman edp. Over time, I’ve decided I quite enjoy this pepper and syrupy creation. All pepper goes a bit too “men’s cologne” on me, but this works.
It’s another snowy day here. I think we’ve had almost a foot so far with more on the way. I saw Buffalo has nearly 5 feet though!
I’m working tonight and wearing Coco edp for the comfort. My original plan was to wear Miu Miu for the cp. I am taking points because it’s the thought that counts! Lol.
I hope the snow doesn’t cause you too many commuting problems. Keep warm!
Fortunately after tonight I have the weekend off. Once I am home am staying put.
OMG, you have a foot of snow already!?
The snow totals from Buffalo are NUTS! I thought I heard that it was going to continue until Sunday there?
Yep. Sunday morning is when it should end. I can expect 6 to 12 more inches. Ugh.
Smelling great, lillyjo!
Thank you Gail!
I hope the snow makes people think twice about visiting your fine establishment so you can have a calm and peaceful night at work. 🤞🏼
I put under Jalapeno’s post where you can buy her perfume.
I wish I’d worn Omnia. I wore Eau Duelle with some pink pepper. The only black pepper I could think of is Marc Jacobs Bang, which was too literally black pepper for me.
No SOTD or CP points for me. I thought I was fighting a head cold earlier this week but tested positive for COVID today. Not feeling great, but not too awful either. Will start on an anti-viral med tomorrow.
I hope you feel better very soon!
Feel better, OH! Hope your sniffer stays intact!
One of the free samples I got when I purchased perfume in Italy was Un Poivre from Obvious. Actually, it has both black and pink pepper so it’s slightly misnamed but totally appropriate for the project
