It's Monday, plus National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day. Birthdays: Ruby Hurley, Albert Camus, Al Hirt, Joni Mitchell. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Violette Volynka, with thanks to reader pfsh for hosting a split!
Reminder: on 11/11, wear something simple and comforting. Suggested by Cobrarose.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

☺️ Shalimar MVP today.
Smelling great today!
Yes, what Nancy said!
Wow, that is the most specific national day ever. Not semisweet or milk, and not pecans or hazelnuts…bittersweet with almonds. 🙂
Happy birthday Joni!
I will take CP points in Felanilla today. A week of comforting scents seems like what I need right now.
Your ‘most specific’ comment was exactly what I was going to say – made me chuckle!
The foodie days are ridiculous, seriously. And numerous 🙂
Ditto, or count me third as laughing over the specificity.
Fourth! Crazily specific. 🍫🌰🥜
Today I’m wearing 1725 from my HdP discovery set.
Casanova 🙂
After yoga, I’ll be wearing Eris Parfums Mx. I don’t think I count this one as simple, but I do find it comforting. In fact, almost all the fragrances I wear are scents that I find comforting in some way.
As we are celebrating National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day, I thought I would mention that not only am I a fan of almost any chocolate with almonds, but I’m also the weirdo who likes her s’mores with Hershey’s chocolate with almonds (it’s not bittersweet, but whatever). When we camp, which we do fairly often, I have to bring my own package of the chocolate with almond bars as none of the rest of the fam can appreciate that.
That sounds delicious!
😀 and the almonds add a little protein!
Wow, that sounds super yummy.
It is!
I would join you with that version of S’Mores!
Yay!
I’m in Mojave Ghost this morning, after introducing a family friend to it over the weekend and being reminded of how much I love it.
Did the friend like / love it?
She was actually hunting for gift ideas for her sister, but when I had her sniff MG her eyes rolled back in her head and she said, “Wow, *I* would wear this one.” So I made her a little decant. 😁
That was nice of you, SheriG! 🙂
Very nice!
You smell great! Love Mojave Ghost.
I love this CP! Claiming points for Replica By the Fireplace.
Seems like bonus points to me – cozy fragrance with a cozy name🍁
You smell lovely!
Thanks, Koyel!
It has been bizarrely warm for days now, low twenties (Celsius) in November, so today I feel compelled to wear something bright and summery: 4711 Acqua Colonia Lemon & Ginger. I’m not completely in love with the line, and I think there have been some real duds, but this one is nice — lemony-fresh without smelling like a cleaning product. No lasting power, obviously: it’s a cologne, and it’s mostly gone in half an hour. But sometimes a little boost of freshness is what you want!
It’s oddly warm here too, so I also went citrus (although oranges for me).
I think we are going to hit a record high today?
Dunno about you Robin, but I am pretty sure that my area hit a record high today.
Wearing Shalimar today, definitely need it because it’s freezing out.
Wow…and I have the windows open!
Not CP-compliant today, but an extravagant birthday present from my sister arrived last night: Byredo Flowerhead, so that is my SOTD.
Robin, I would love to know your thoughts on the violet!
Happy birthday!
A very happy birthday to you! And good choice for your present.
I don’t hate VV but on first wearing, don’t love it either. Strikes me as not very Hermessence-ish, more like other CN cologne-y things for Hermes. But maybe I will fall in love with it next week. Hope springs eternal.
Oops, should have asked since maybe your sister just picked blindly…do you like Flowerhead?
Belated Birthday wishes to you irisjasmine!
Happy birthday irisjasmine! Enjoy your new bottle. 🎂
Absolutely gorgeous day today, with sunny skies and temperatures expected to reach 80 degrees. Love it! However, the highest tomorrow is only 52. Back to real fall weather! 😫
Wearing CdG Kyoto for comfort, something that I need a lot these days.
On my second cup of coffee with a handful of apple cider soft caramels, my latest obsession.
Happy Monday! 🌞
Who makes those caramels? Sound amazing!
Trader Joe’s. They are delicious!
I spotted those this morning when I stopped at TJ’s to look for pumpkin brioche and pumpkin cream cheese. 😋 Then I spotted the price of the caramels and said “Nah..” 😭 Enjoy your treatos!
More for me! 😀
Oh no, I didn’t need to know this!
I’m looking away too, Koyel!
Yes, they are really good and the box brings a lot of individually wrapped caramels in a small size. If I remember well they are like $3.50. Worth trying!
Your caramels sound yummy!
They are! 😋
https://www.temotukairangi.co.nz/planting/native-plants/cabbage-tree
I’ve just been outside looking at the moon and enjoying the moon glow shadows across the garden. There is a beautiful sweet scent, like Christmas Lily or Easter Orchids or Daphne, hanging in the air coming from the native Cabbage Trees. The trees look like tall scrappy palms but in the midst of their spiky leaves are panicles of small white waxy flowers …they look like clusters of exploding fireworks. I will wear Vierge de Fer later, once I get up.
Those trees are really cool! I had never seen them before, thanks.
We’ve got a lot of cabbage trees around our place, and they smell wonderful right now. There are a few smaller ones below the road, so the flowers are head height – it’s generally a bit difficult to get so close to flowers on trees.
Those are gorgeous trees.
How lovely! (Both your description, and the picture of the tree.)
I had meant to say in my post that we have a tonight. Blood Moon eclipse coming:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/07/science/lunar-eclipse-when-where.html
Belated apologies for that sentence!
Simple and comforting? I can do that. Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede. Many, many spritzes.
As I laugh at the bittersweet chocolate with almonds specificity, I realize I’ve been indulging of late. I have a bag of dark chocolate coconut almonds from Costco. An almond, wrapped in coconut, dipped in chocolate and rolled in dark powdered cocoa. (It’s the more affordable, yet still delicious) version of the ones with macadamia nuts instead of almonds.
Have set my alarm for 4:45 am to see if I can catch the lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, it’s expected to be cloudy. So, I may end up bundling up and heading outside only to come right back in.
I’m going to try and see the eclipse too. Around midnight down here. See you there!
Oh so glad someone was planning to see it (see my comment just above). I am not getting up as it will be a long day already.
I might try to see the lunar eclipse at totality tomorrow morning. Haven’t decided if I am feeling that ambitious. 🌙🌚
SOTD: Akro Dark which checks the comforting box, and maybe the simple? Doesn’t smell simple to me but could see it being described as such.
Also interested in Robin’s take on the new Hermes. Received mine as well and used it all weekend. Unfortunately it doesn’t last for more than an hour on me. It lingers but just barely by hour two. I do like it though. More sweet than I suspected. Leather is gorgeous.
Oooh, Akro Dark is so nice. I have a sample of it from the last time I went sniffing. It is very comforting. Enjoy!
Repeating my comment from above, and adding that I will try it next to Cuir d’Ange later in the week:
I don’t hate VV but on first wearing, don’t love it either. Strikes me as not very Hermessence-ish, more like other CN cologne-y things for Hermes. But maybe I will fall in love with it next week. Hope springs eternal.
SOTD = Chanel 1932 EDT
It’s a guess that I have the EDT because I was one of those people who could not comprehend why Chanel would mess with a good thing. Anyway, it’s a decant with darkish yellow juice.
I primarily smell aldehydes, lipstick and vintage…almost like crossing No.5 EDP with Guerlain French Kiss! There are of course a lot of everything else but the kitchen sink but these stood out for me. Do note, however, that violets is not listed as a note, but hey, my nose smells what it wants to smell.
In other news, it would not have been polite for me to take a picture of what I about to mention. I came up the escalator to get to the street and was wondering why a certain narrow passage was blocked off and there were cops around. I soon saw why – there was a guy lying on the ground with blood blood blood 🩸 as far as the eyes can see and some of it had run off and the run off was not contained. It appeared that the guy was still alive or at least his eyes were open. That said, that’s as close to me being very near an obviously bleeding injured person in all my years commuting into NYC. Imagine not seeing anything like this even with having been a close witness to 9-11.
Disturbing. I’ve never experienced something like this when commuting, either, in my just under 30 years in NYC. There have been non-commuting accidents I’ve seen (and been in!), but only the occasional “sick” person on the subway.
The blood was bright red. I would like to think it’s because he was well oxygenated right before it happened!
Oh my goodness. That sounds very disturbing. I’m glad you don’t encounter that kind of thing often!
Me too!
It must have been so upsetting.
It was very unexpected for sure and I would have thought that I would have seen something like this prior to today.
House twins today!
Yeeeek! What a scene to start your day off with. Something like that would probably give me nightmares.
Yikes, I hope not!
I’m sorry you had to see that. How awful.
Oh my goodness.
Wearing the last drops of a bottle of Chanel 19 extrait. It is truly spectacular and I’ve eked out this tiny 7.5 ml bottle over about 8 years now. I shouldn’t be sad since I have two more but for some silly reason it does make me a bit sad.
Aw! Will be nice to pop open another though, I hope?
Wearing Lyric today and heading out to do my early voting.
Happy voting, Dawn!
I have already voted by mail but am working the polls tomorrow afternoon. I think so much of PA votes by mail now that it might not be too busy, we’ll see.
I’m going with comforting rather than simple, so I’m wearing PdN’s Le Temps d’Une Fête, a total favourite for spring and summer.
Oh, you smell gorgeous, what a great scent.
One of the best! You are wafting gorgeous.
It’s such a gorgeous day today that I needed to celebrate the warmth. I’m in 19-69’s Capri, and really enjoying the orange grove goodness.
Nice!
I’m in 4160 Tokyo Spring Blossom today. It’s warm and muggy out, so this one is nice and simple and it works!
Points!
Lovely choice!
It’s been a day of rain but still mild for the season.
Smoothie is apple and yogurt.
I chose Chantal Thomas’s original edp known as Black but there is nothing dark about that fruity juice. It has cherry but as it was released in the early 2000’s it rather a pioneer, also cranberry which I like as a note and keeps it from being too sugary and tomato leaf which is original for a fruity gourmand. It kept me happy today but tonight I’m in Imperial Opoponax (spelled oppoponax in Fragrantica) doing its usual Shalimar impression.
I can’t decide what to have for dinner, not inspired.
Warm dry weather might be headed your way, since it is leaving here. Back to autumnal reality for a couple of days…
It was still raining ☔ yesterday but by tomorrow it will get drier and sunnier , so you have sent me your weather, just with a little delay.
Add me to the list of birthdays today! And I’ll take some of that chocolate though I will pass on the almonds. Somehow there’s no chocolate to hand just now (must remedy) though I did have a glass of champagne with lunch. 🍾
SOTM is (accidentally) DS&Durga Bombay whatsit, which was the soap in the ladies room and which I definitely won’t be buying, lol. Need to find something better for later.
Well, happy birthday, dear pixel! I’m sending you a big bar of dark chocolate and a scented hug. 🙂
Why thank you!
Have birthday pixil! Champagne at lunch sounds so celebratory😊
Oops. I could try harder to spell your name right on you birthday. And I haven’t even had Champagne with lunch! 🙃🥂
Ha ha ha, well I recommend that you fix your lack of champagne ASAP 😁 thanks for the birthday wishes!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you! 🎉
Happy Birthday, pixel!
Thanks!🥳
Happy Birthday, Pixel! 🎂
Thanks!!! Now I need some cake 🍰 to go with my champagne!
Happy Birthday, pixel! I like the way you celebrate the day🍾
Thank you! 🎇
Happy Scented Birthday pixel! Champagne for lunch, wow! That’s some serious mad styling there. 🎂🥂🍾🎊🎁
Thanks! I think I need champagne with dinner, too 🥂
Happy happy birthday, pixel!! I hope the rest of your day was well scented!
Happy birthday, and hope everything was perfect!
Happy birthday!
Sending belated birthday wishes to you!
Happy birthday, pixel. Agree about DS&D Radio Bombay, but yay for champagne with lunch.
Oh darn – obviously meant to post under pixel’s post above!
Thanks anyway!!
In LADDM for the warm, comforting vibe.
Excellent choice!
I missed out on commenting this weekend because we had a power outage and I decided to go to the pharmacy and get a flu shot. I was down until late last night. I usually don’t get much of a reaction except for sore arm. This time I felt just awful.
My sotd is cp appropriate. I’m wearing White Cube. Easy to wear and comforting.
I’m so sorry you were hit so hard by the flu shot but glad you’re on the mend and smelling so good🌸
Thank you! I just love White Cube.
And maybe it means you’re very well protected! I got barely any reaction at all, not even the sore arm nor the pain at the site.
That was also my reaction! And I was fully-braced for it.
I hope that is what it means! My daughter also had her flu shot with no reaction.
Interesting – I wasn’t too bad, but I did notice that I was achy and usually don’t have any noticeable response to flu shots. I thought maybe it was my imagination, but maybe it wasn’t!
I was so incredibly achy plus nausea. Probably not your imagination.
Power outage + flu shot = what a weekend! Hope that your week is better.
The only good part was that I had the weekend off.
Hope you’re all back to normal by now!
I’m kind of in the opposite of the CP today because I decided to do a full wearing of a perfume I hadn’t yet tested from the last swap meet. So I’m finally trying and wearing Epice Marine for the first time. It’s a fine perfume but not really ringing my bell on this chilly November day. I’ll pull it out again in the spring, I think. Luckily, it doesn’t have obnoxious sillage so it’s a good background scent until I switch to something cozier tonight.
I am pretty sure I have not found the weather to make me love EM, but you might of course!
Yeah, I think it might not be my thing, but I’ll pull it back out in slightly warmer temps to give it a fair chance.
Greetings everyone! I’ve been mostly unscented the last few days so have not been reporting in. We’ve been very lucky with the weather here so far. A few days ago we ended up chatting with a lovely lady and sat out on the beach well after the sun went down. I was absolutely bitten like crazy on my ankle with probably 50 mosquitos or sandflies. I’ve tried carrot seed oil, a baking soda paste and some Amalactyn lotion as a remedy. It all lasts temporarily so it’s been a challenge, trying not to scratch! I don’t envy anyone with skin issues.
This sounds kind of scary, but have you tried a little dab of ammonia on those bug bites? My MIL suggested it ages ago, and it works great for me on mosquito bites.
Oooh, thank you! I will look for it.
It comes in a little dabber pen for that purpose. CVS might have it.
Ouch! If you’re in Florida, watch out for Nicole!
We are! I’m keeping an eye out, weather nerd that
I am. Our resort is also very good at handling everything weather related, thankfully!
We were talking to a couple who was here during Ian. The resort didn’t lose power or the internet once, amazingly. Apparently we are in a ‘pocket’ here, whispering so no one hears me!
What? I can’t hear you.😉🤞
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/quqp_PeWc6A
I’m glad that Duran Duran made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while Andy Taylor was around to appreciate the honor.
I’m also very happy that my brother is getting a new job! He will not have to spend another cold winter outdoors.
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau EdT. Been smelling *good* in this for a couple of days now.
Congratulations to your brother!
I was sad to hear about Andy Taylor. I’m glad they were inducted.
Thanks!
Yeah, hearing the news about Andy Taylor this morning was a bummer. It seems that so many artists and musicians I listened to in my younger days are gone now.
You smell mighty fine! I’m glad for your brother.
Thank you!
Yay for your brother!! And you’re smelling very nice indeed!
Thanks!
That’s great news about your brother, hope he loves the new job!
Thank you Robin! I think at this point he will be happy not to hate his job…
🙂
Slightly opposite of CP for me today, I’m in Iris Ganache. The violet note can be a bit challenging for me, but now the drydown is lovely and yes, could be comforting.
I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone chooses for comforting scents. I have a few in mind and they are much needed this time of year. I can tell that the upcoming holidays will give me some anxiety! I haven’t hosted Thanksgiving in awhile, maybe 5-6 years, and we will most likely be hosting this year.
Good luck hosting Thanksgiving dinner! It can be supremely difficult.
I wore Kilian’s Angels Share today, now I’m in a hodgepodge of samples, including the new Tauer and the Bogue for Luckyscent’s 20th anniversary. The Bogue has a green, pissy smell – I knew it wasn’t likely to work for me, but hope springs eternal. The Tauer is a lovely sweet floral, reminds me of a gentler Maroc pour Elle, can definitely smell the jasmine.
