PSA: If you live in a daylight savings zone, don't forget to change your clocks tonight! That means it's time for our sixth annual Fall Back poll.
As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it's spring where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.
1. What's the fragrance you'd most like to add to your collection this fall?
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
3. It's time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.

Wow — I went to my wish list on fragrantica and discovered that my wants are all pretty much met. What has happened to me?? How is that possible? 😛
SOTM is LVDP Tabac, for its lovely, dry tobacco leaf note. I’m still on an Alba kick though, and might switch to it later on. Ah, new love.
My poll answers:
1. De Profundis in the bell jar. Someday I’ll stumble across someone who doesn’t understand it and is looking to offload a partial bottle for a song. (Hah!)
2. No! I love all my children equally! Actually, I have managed to winnow the collection down to the true loves, for the most part. If I absolutely had to choose, probably the one to go would be PG Cuir d’Iris. I do love it but don’t wear it often because of that first 15 minutes of something resembling sour pickle.
3. Skye. In summer. And I’d bring Lostmarc’h Iroaz.
We took a family summer trip to Scotland and spent several days in Skye in a tiny cottage near the coast. Definitely go!
And SheriG, aren’t you a fellow Mary Stewart fan? Wildfire at Midnight, along with a few other books I read as a young adult, was part of the reason I really wanted to visit Skye!
Me too — same book, same reaction!
Ooh, I would take that Cuir d’Iris off your hands if you’re interested!
Oh, I’m not ready to part with it yet, but I’ll keep you in mind!
SOTD coco noir body lotion
1. Too many I want
2. Every time I pick one to vote off, I wear it and then realize I like it.
3. Scotland & Shalimar
You smell wonderful! I’m a Coco Noir fan, especially for the bottle.
I wore Coco Noir lotion on my legs yesterday and the perfume on the rest of me. I love this in the cooler months.
I finished my bottle of coco noir perfume. I haven’t repurchased, I occasionally miss it
1) Onda VdE, which is winging its way towards me as we speak. After years of wanting it, then kicking myself for not buying it when Vero was alive on this plane, then looking for partial bottles and decants for quite a while, to just giving up, it’s now available again. I hope it’s as good as I remember!
2) Please don’t make me choose!
3) Anywhere I don’t have to clock in! 😁
Taklamakan today! Mmm-mmmm good!
Exciting news that the VdEs are available again, I had wanted to try the Rubj VdE, but didn’t get the opportunity. Fingers crossed for you that Onda VdE is everything you’re hoping for.
Lol to number 3.😂
Very very excited you’ll get your bottle! I remember how much you were hoping for some Onda!.
At this moment, without a lot of thought, I think I’d add Coco Noir. It’s got a lot of what I love and would fill a gap.
I’m starting to think Insolence EdT is interesting but not me.
Utah – a National park RV or camper adventure. LDDM would work well.
Rainy and dreary here. Wearing the dregs of an Orchidée Vanille decant. The juice looks like vanilla extract. Still good.
I am wearing the body cream for coco noir today , it’s delicious.
What version of coco noir do you like ?
No idea. I’ve only spritzed once or twice and didn’t pay attention. Thoughts?
That same thing happened to my decant of Orchidee Vanille. It seemed to evaporate really quickly and because so concentrated.
I responded to LTSG earlier today. I wore Coco Noir cream on my legs yesterday and then the perfume on the rest of me. I love it so much in the cooler months.
It’s a great scent
Happy Saturday! I’m wearing a PG Le Musc & La Peau sample, a new favorite.
1. Fragrance to add to collection: I would LOVE even a partial bottle of Neela Vermiere Ashoka. I’m way over my perfume budget this year. Someday!
2. Vote off island: Bois 1920 Vento di Fiori. It’s brand new, minus one spritz and it’s not me. Time to swap or sell.
3. I’d still love to take the trip to western France and Provence that we had planned for early fall of 2020. Heck, I’d even go in the winter. I think I’d take my YSL Cinéma .
Allons-y! Let’s go!
😀 😀 😀
I really liked Le Musc & La Peau when I tried it too.
It’s a great “skin” scent.
I’m wearing Le Lion from a new bottle (to me) and it was “cheap” because of a chip on the bottle. It’s a perfect fall scent.
I have been doing a major perfume cull lately and it’s been so satisfying to move things along, knowing better now what I like and don’t like, allowing me to invest in quality v quantity. For example, I realized that Parfums d’Empire La Cri de la Lumiere isn’t for me. As beautiful as it is, the aldehydes and I don’t get along.
3. I’m going to Paris (actually going in June but would happily leave now😀) and I would bring a decant of A la Nuit in anticipation of buying a Bell Jar at the SL Palais Royal shop.
A nice NSTer gave me a sample of La Cri not long ago. I liked it, but not enough to purchase it. I am like you. I am finally beginning to realize what works for me and what doesn’t. Once I get my collection where I want it, I am going to try, and I stress TRY, to quit buying. I think I am almost there.
Bon courage!
A chip on the bottle, how lucky!
I am wearing CdG Zargorsk.
1. I would love to add Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa to my collection.
2. I would vote off the island a bunch of B&BW fragrance mists that I rarely reach for and that are taking lots of space in my perfume cabinet.
3. My inner child would like to go back to Disney World with my mother and have lots of fun. It will never happen, but, I wish we could….
You know, I like a lot of the B&BW shower gels and scrubs plus a few lotions, but last year I quit buying the fragrance mists. I rarely used them either.
The body lotions are strong enough and sometimes even stronger than the mists. That’s why I don’t reach for them often.
I’m wearing the last traces of a dab last night of Fort and Manle’s new Late Harvest. It’s almost fabulous, but it’s a bit sharp, which is the best I can do for an adjective.
Top of my list is Serge Lutens’ Mandarine Mandarin, and all going well I’ll get that in April. My buy list is quite short now, but my list of things I want to try is getting very long. I’ve discovered that the US postal service has quietly restarted posting to New Zealand, so sampling is easier again, which is very exciting 🙂
There’s nothing that I’d vote off the island, I still want to have the things I don’t wear very often.
My fall getaway will be real come our autumn – I’ve booked flights for a trip to Cairo, Paris and Athens. I’ve wanted to see the pyramids for as long as I can remember, and I might finally make it!
What a fabulous trip! I hope you have a wonderful time! 🇪🇬🇫🇷 🇬🇷
Cairo, Paris, Athens…that really is a dream trip.
SOTD = Abaton Chinotto Dark Gourmand
Love!

Wish List – Tauer Golestan. I just have to order and if no longer available, I can wait.
Vote off the Island – Smell Bent S-E-X, Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser, Ariana Grande Cloud, and probably a bunch more. Will offer as freebies at some point.
Dream Vacation – I need to start small! Last week was my first time staying away overnight since March 2020. May 2023 I am already booked on a Holland America cruise to historic coasts. There’s no flying involved, just a longish train ride to / from Boston. I will bring my usual complement of perfumes: No.19 EDP, No.5 EDT and I’ll add No.5 L’Eau and perhaps a bunch of samples.
For those interested, the Cake Scraps jars look like this:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CkllD5-uE7c/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I’m probably going to vote my Ariana Grande Cloud off the island as well.
Those cake scraps jars look very interesting. I’m glad you posted a pic, I was wondering about those!
I am wearing No. 5 perfume today and would definitely take L’Eau on a trip.
Those cake scraps are similar to ones I get out of Fargo, ND. I call them jar cupcakes. The company is called Paisley and Dash. (I put the website below, but for some reason couldn’t get it to highlight.) They are spendy, but so good. I am so lucky because my financial person gives them to us every year over the New Year holiday.

I’m wearing Chanel Gardenia this morning.
1. There’s nothing I must have at the moment, I’ve got some samplers coming my way so that might change. And like Deva, I am hoping the Onda VdE is as good as I remember.
2. I’d vote Tiger’s Nest off the island. Despite repeated tries, I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t care for amber-forward fragrances. Remember when Kalemat was all the rage? I blind-bought that huge bottle and then swapped it away at the first opportunity.
3. I am finally going to India to see tigers next March, a trip postponed for three years. I don’t know what I’ll wear (not Tiger’s Nest!) as it will be very hot and dry. What works in dry heat?
How exciting about India! wow! Citrus would be my go-to for dry heat. Maybe Azemour les Oranges?
India! That will be amazing!
I love Chanel gardenia , I don’t wear it as often as I should
Oh my gosh, India! How amazing, I hope you have the best time.
For me, Tam Dao works well in dry heat. Otherwise, yes, citrus…maybe Assam of India?
I’m wearing CdG Daphne today. It’s more floral than I had remembered. I wanted to put on some Anima Dulcis but the sprayer has gone wonky and I don’t know what to do to get it to work. :-(. This bottle was close to it in the cabinet so I put it on instead.
Sadly I have too much stuff I should/could vote off the island: all the Monegal scents I bought, plus Aura, plus a few more cheaper ones. I’m too disorganized to figure out what to do with them now. Maybe take them to Goodwill?
I’d like to be in a place with fall foliage and blue water but I think I’ve missed the peak of fall in New England and the northern parts of the Midwest by the Great Lakes. Maybe next year. Anima Dulcis would work if I could get the sprayer going again!
Not yearning for anything in particular but hoping to try some MDCI bottles when I visit Portland and Fumerie later this month. They are super expensive but some are so elegantly sensual and delicious. I don’t know of anyplace nearby to sample them (though perhaps I’m just neglecting someplace obvious).
I’m going out for lunch. I’ve got a strong desire for Singapore vermicelli noodles. I used to get them at a place I liked near my home but they’ve got really weird hours now so I’m looking up some options.
I keep swearing I’ll go through my perfume cabinet but it never happens, so I join you in disorganization.
Enjoy your Singapore noodles, I am jealous — have not had a really good version in ages.
Well, long story but I didn’t get them! The restaurant has a more limited Saturday lunch menu. But what I had was delicious anyway, and I’ll go back soon for their noodles!
Delicious is really all that matters 🙂
Wearing Wazamba, perfect for a rainy, dreary day.
1. Nothing, really, but there are new things that I will want to try, like the new Imaginary Authors and Zoologist Cardinal.
2. I’m pretty happy with what I have.
3. The Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan, I would take Memoirs of a Trespasser.
I’m pretty content at the moment, perfume wise and otherwise. Last year at this time, I had just had that extensive surgery on my foot; now it’s healed and thanks to Noom, I’m down 35 pounds. Only 45 to go.
Congratulations on your weight loss!
Wow, that’s awesome!👍
Another huge fan here of the Leelanau Peninsula! I once rented a cottage across the bay there on Old Mission Peninsula, north of TC, and enjoyed little day trips all the time. Suttons Bay, Northport, Leland, all over, it’s so beautiful.
I just ordered a few samples from Imaginary Authors so am curious as well what that new one smells like. I will try to remember and report.
So glad your foot is healed. Congrats on the weight loss. I showed my husband your post on the Leelanau Peninsula and he said oh yes, we need to go there, too.
35 pounds is amazing, way to go!
Arquiste Flor y Canto, my sample really grew on me slowly but surely
It’s not new, still Tom Ford for E L Youth Dew Amber Nude. I used to love it but one day it annoyedme, became a scrubber and I even have a backup which I should really sell but I can’t be bothered
Venise in the fall and I would take all my Krizia perfumes.
I was in Arquiste Infanta en Flor this afternoon, one of the prettiest orange blossom soft leather and tonight I’m trying Galoré from my new bottle, the jasmine is prominent and to die for in that one.
I would love to see Venice again. And still have not made it to Rome, so Italy would be high on my list.
For me it’s the reverse, went to Rome which really needs two full weeks, there is so much to discover, hope you will go one day.
Yay, fall back means an extra hour of sleep! I slept late- for me- this morning and I think I’m finally caught up on sleep. After getting to bed at 1 am last Sunday, I’ve been playing catch up all week.
I’m in Tam Dao because, why not? It’s kind of like no 5 l’ Eau, smells great anywhere, anytime. Got a mani today for the first time in ages and now my hands look so pretty.🤩
1. I’m not hankering for any new perfumes really. Looking forward to some BR540 from the splitmeet. For new bottles, I’d take a bottle of either Francesca Bianchi unspoken musk or Obvious Parfums Un Musc if they fell in my lap.
2. My decant of Chergui. I’ve worn it a few times and it has all the notes that I should like, but it’s just not me. Will probably go in the next swapmeet.
3. We like to do a weekend every fall on my old campus/daughter’s current campus, but due to the teenager’s work schedule, it just didn’t happen this year. Oh well. I would take Tam Dao.
Of course I woke up early and have been off kilter all day! Glad you got extra sleep.
I’d like a bottle of Scents of Wood Sandalwood in Oak. Currently on the chopping block is Apoteker Tepe Brother Night, a stupid blind buy that is way too smoky for me (think Hiram Green Hyde – shudder).
For a fall getaway, I’d love to go to Tahiti and wear my new bottle of Monyette Paris edp.
Tahiti! Good thinking.
SOTD is Chanel No. 5.
Thinking about adding Apres L’Ondee Eau de Toilette to my collection.
I may vote off Peach Blossom, Violet and Vanilla. Just not digging the smell lately. Also, did any of you notice he has taken Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood off his site? I am guessing maybe he is discontinuing it. I hope not as I know many of us like it.
Who is the “he”? Sorry, I don’t know.
I think it’s Dame Perfumery.
Jeffrey Dame. Sorry.
Hello all!
A non COVID plague has been making its way through my work recently and though I’m not afflcted, it has been a stressful week. I’m in Fourreau Noir today, my most recent purchase to arrive. Bit of a sleeper but I love the progression from ashy lavender to smoky tonka.
1. I’ve added too much already honestly. Gonna see if I can make it till my birthday before buying something new.
2. I have a hard time making cuts honestly (see my 300 books!) but I have a vintage spray of L’air du Temps that I could pretty easily purge. Not my favorite classic.
Have a great day everyone!
Totally missed 3! I’ve been wanting to visit Mexico City. Everyone I know who’s been really enjoyed it. I think I’d go with something really special to perfume it, maybe Coromandel parfum (which I haven’t tried yet but boy am I curious!)
Oh, I would love to go to Mexico City too.
I’ve been saving places I’ve wanted to visit in case I end up making it there!
How unusual! We are scent twins today!
Lucky us, having such great taste! 🥳
1. PG Arabian Horse. Always seems too spendy, but I remembered I have some thredup consignment money coming to me soon ;P
2. I think Diptyque L’Autre. It’s just too…. Autre
3. NYC, natch, to sniff everything I’ve never been able to.
I think Ivoire or Ungaro Diva. Something vintage and classic!
The Diptyque is a little Autre 😉
Still commando right now. We have some friends coming over this afternoon, so I’m going to be tidying up this morning.
I’m really trying to slow down my perfume buying. The only full bottle on my wishlist is Chypre Palatin, I’m not in a huge rush. I really want travel sprays of many things though, like Violette Volynka, and several Zoologists scents.
I have so many scents to re-home, I’m going to try my hardest to get my act together for the next swap meet!
I recently splurged on a bar of Santa Maria Novella soap and that got me thinking I’d LOVE to revisit Florence. Can’t believe I didn’t go to SMN when I was there. And I’d definitely wear Melograno while on my trip.
I did worse: I went to SMN and didn’t buy anything! (Pre-perfumista days.)
1. What’s the fragrance you’d most like to add to your collection this fall?
I’m very content with what I have (I have a lot!), but I’m intrigued by the upcoming launch of an EDP version of L’Iris de Fath, their re-creation of Iris Gris. I was able to try the parfum — in a vault! — in 2019 and it’s lovely though completely unaffordable.
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
The set of Vince Camuto minis I got when I was first educating my nose. They’re boring, and I never wear them.
3. It’s time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
I’m going to New Zealand! And I’ll bring my newest precioussss, Hiram Green’s Arbolé. It is my SOTD today and I’m loving it.
Twins for Arbolé today. It is gorgeous.
I’m also wearing HG Arbolé.
I chose this today because I saw that Shangri La is back! Shangri La is top 2 for me, and though I have two backups, I’m very curious about what might have changed in the new version.
That leads to my answer for #1, I want the discovery set. I’ve tried and have many Hiram Greens, but I’d really like to try Arcadia and Vetiver as well as the new Shangri La. the Canadian stockist doesn’t have the full discovery set yet so sitting on my hands hoping it will update soon.
I’d vote off Safran Troublant that I loved through two decants but then got a full bottle, and for some mysterious reason, I don’t love it anymore.
My lifelong dream is to go to Italy. If only there wasn’t so much to actually getting there. I’ve been very unlucky with the actions of travel and the thought of airports sends a chill down my spine.one day I really have to suck it up and just do it.
Hi Gi, I’d love to swap for your Safran Troublant if you do decide to vote it off and want to swap. I’m thinking you are in Canada based on your post above and I’m in the U.S. If interested, you can reach me via my screen name above. And if not, no problem!
Hello and happy fall!! I was visiting a friend in Massachusetts lately and the fall leaves are so beautiful here. SOTD was Chanel Paris Edimbourg, which I have been loving this season.
1. Penhaligons Lavandula — it was my first perfume in my early perfumista days. I mistakenly sold off my bottle years ago, only to discover that it is discontinued now. I miss it!
2. Chanel 28 La Pausa — I luckily acquired a large bottle because I thought it would be my grail iris scent, but for some reason it is very astringent on me. Someone could appreciate it better, I am sure.
3. Oooh hard one but definitely Paris-Edimbourg. I’m craving that aromatic piney vibe. I know it’s more wintry but I can’t stop smelling it! The dry down smells a bit like Tiger Balm which I find comforting.
Leaves are still quite nice here in PA but I can believe they are nicer in MA.
I’m sure its infinitely more gorgeous out there than in NYC! Leaves only go from green to yellow to brown, they seem to skip the beautiful orange and reds here 😂😂
Doing a major purge after visiting my brother’s house last week that was horrifyingly cluttered. Determined to clean out all the rats nests in various cupboards and drawers. I’m wearing a hodgepodge of samples today.
Good luck cazaubon!
First day after falling back. Gawds it got dark early!
1. Not really wanting any new bottles at present, despite me really enjoying my sample of Perles de Lalique.
2. Bottle to get voted off is Escada Rockin’ Rio, the first version in the heart shaped bottle. It’s too sweet for me now. But! I did recently rehome a few other bottles of perfume. I am quite pleased about that.
3. No urge to travel still. I had more than enough travel last year, and most of it was for sad/stressful reasons.
It is always a shock, every time, how dark it is before I’ve even thought about dinner.
