"I remember [in the sixties] when Sonny [Bono] and I became famous, I used to take my mom's perfume," she recalls. Her mother was big on Dior Joy and "one with a Spanish lady on it," which I can only assume was Nueva Maja by Myrurgia. At the time, Cher also wanted to wear Tabu by Dana, which was known for being… well, taboo. "My mom said, 'Cher, good girls don't wear that.' I was like, 'Mom, come on.'"

I can’t believe they wrote “Dior Joy“.
Did they mean Patou Joy, or did they mean one of the midcentury Diors like Diorissimo or Miss Dior, or what? I can’t figure it out. And from a beauty magazine, too. No fact-checkers, I guess, and no historical memory.
I agree, it’s just poor research.
Dior released a perfume called Joy in 2018. No idea if they had one earlier but sort of doubt it. But that might be the reason for confusion…a fact checker would in fact find a perfume called Dior Joy, if indeed there are any fact checkers.
Dior bought Patou just for the “Joy” trademark. They killed the perfume line and released Dior Joy, who was a huge commercial failure.
I think the funny comment is her mom telling her “good girls don’t wear that”. But the MOM was!
I think Dior bought Patou a few years ago and then had the rights to the name Joy and promptly released Dior Joy. Quite appalled at the mistake in that article.
