Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Coffee Day! It's also World Heart Day and International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction. Birthdays today: Elizabeth Gaskell, Colin Dexter and Diana Vreeland. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Timbuktu. I know I found it difficult when I first tried it, and I have not found it to be a crowd favorite.
Reminder: on 9/30, we're doing It's difficult, part 2...wear a fragrance that you (or someone around you?) finds difficult, for whatever reason. Suggested by Pixel, Kanuka and JB.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning!
Sotd is Hummingbird, on my neck forearms and inside of elbows. Wrapping myself in a huge floral bubble and loving it.
I am celebrating coffee day alright; now drinking a double espresso shot latte.
Has anyone seen the new action thriller Lou on Netflix? It’s not bad (or should I say, better than I thought). I have grown to expect nothing from Netflix films as they can be huge misses.
Smelling wonderful today!
I am just realizing how long it has been since I watched a movie…I seem to only watch series lately. Not sure why.
I Profumi di Firenze Sandalo Misore. Wonderfully dark and earthy-dirty, so good on a cool fall morning.
Oh, that is a perfume to die for!
I’m in Musc Panache from a sample. Trying to decide if I need a travel spray of this one. Hmm.
Brr! It’s been cold out the past couple of mornings. You know it’s bad when your car gives you the snowflake icon on the dashboard and the outside temperature. So much for any autumn weather. We went right from needing the a/c to needing the furnace.
It has been sunny and beautiful though, so there is that. Blue skies and not a cloud today.😎
Today is day 2 of *almost* turning on the furnace. I will probably not make it through the weekend.
Enjoy the sun!
Thanks! I had the house to myself when I got home from work yesterday and *may* have turned the furnace on for a bit.😉
It is nice to be warm, isn’t it?
When my dad was 88 he was having his new car serviced at the dealership and asked why he kept seeing this “flower” show up on the dash sometimes. Boy did they laugh! So did dad after they explained the snowflake to him.
Excellent!
Ha! That’s cute.☺️ I knew it felt like winter for the past two mornings! My car just confirmed it.😆
That’s proof positive that emojis are NOT universal!
We had our first overnight “frost” warning yesterday afternoon…
Last night the weatherman warned us too, but I don’t think it actually did. The sun has been gorgeous yesterday and today!
Had a $30 BBW gift card burning a whole in my pocket and took advantage of a candle sale. My favorite winter candle has been released and it’s actually called Winter. My skin is wafting Coco Mademoiselle Intense but my sleeve has no 5 eau Premiere. Not a bad combination. Debating of either Memoir or Coromandel after my shower today. Just got to vacuum before then.
Glad you found something you loved!
Wafting different smells today ..
Royal Elixir and Slow Dance
I would love a coffee to celebrate today but my stomach says otherwise
Oh dear, I hope you’re ok and that you get your coffee mojo back soon!
Oh, no, sorry you’re feeling poorly. Hope you are well soon.
Ugh. A touchy tummy is not pleasant at all. Hope it goes away soon.
Wearing Chanel Bois des Iles, EdT.
I celebrate National Coffee Day everyday, with my usual 3 cups, daily.
Having my second cup now and a pumpkin cereal bar.
Happy almost Friday! ☕️☕️
You smell lovely 🙂 and that’s a lot of coffee! I’ve crept up recently from one cup a day to two, and I’m wondering if I should try to cut back a bit.
Thank you, Koyel!
Sometimes, like yesterday, 3 cups are not enough, so I might go for a 4th one. I guess my body is already too used to it. We started drinking coffee since we were kids.
Love the smell of coffee, but not so much the taste.
Well, I had to engage with Coffee Day in an unusual and not-very-fun way this morning, when our coffee maker decided to have a hissy fit. It has been acting up for weeks, but apparently it decided Coffee Day was the perfect time to start directing hot coffee somewhere other than the little spouts that are supposed to dispense it. So I donned Mr. G’s spelunking headlamp and investigated, and found (hopefully) the problem — much sticky residue in a spot where a small funnel-shaped part needs freedom of movement. One warm washcloth later and all is well (again, hopefully).
Anyway, I dived into Mt. Sample this morning and am trying Keiko Mecheri Peau de Pêche. At first it was a nearly photorealistic fresh peach, but now it has gained some of its other facets (iris and musk, so far) and is quite pleasant. If it came in a travel spray I’d be ordering one immediately.
It sounds like I need to try this one…I’ve been on a peach hunt for ages and still haven’t found what I’m looking for. This sounds like a great candidate!
Glad I could help!
I am glad your coffee machine is back at it.
Me too! I was NOT looking forward to the alternatives!
Oh, have not smelled that KM in years! And that made me think of the sadly gone PdN L’Eau à la Folie. I think I have no peach in my collection at all.
Glad that your coffee maker is back to rights! ☕☕☕
I’m in the notoriously difficult Byredo Pulp, but I love it and have from first sniff!
I may steal from Robin for tomorrow. I have almost drained my large sample of Timbuktu, but it definitely took time to grow on me.
I would agree that Byredo Pulp is difficult, but I wear it too.
Me 3.LoveLove
I loved Pulp at first sniff too! But a travel spray of that would be a lifetime supply for me.
You smell wonderful !
I’ll wear a bit of Dzing! today. I love it and wish I’d bought a back-up bottle. The reviews on this are all over the place on this one from barnyard (or circus-yard, I guess) to beautiful. I get: the leather with a little caramelly sweetness which I like to think is the circus caramel corn, and then a whiff of someone’s French perfume as they walk past. It’s evocative and fun. A total shame that it was discontinued.
And Robin, I’m one who finds Timbuktu too difficult, I’m afraid. So glad you are better and back to wearing perfume!
Yes…I do think it warrants cp points 🙂
And thank you!
I really love Dzing!, too, and I only ever had a sample. I ssttrreeeeetched it out until I just had to use it up. Sigh. You smell great!
I’m in Eau d’Hadrien today, which was me mistakenkly trying to be CP-compliant as I pulled from the sample pile today. I was remembering that I tried this when I first started getting into perfume, long ago, and disliked it. Then I put it on, thought “How could I have not liked this, it’s a perfectly nice citrus?” and realized that it was Eau du Sud that I disliked, which I do not think I have in the sample stash any longer. Oh well.
I did find Timbuktu as I dove in to the samples, so maybe I will join Robin in it later today.
Ha, and of course it is Sud I love 😉
I suspect I’d like it more now, which was I thought I’d try it. Oh well.
I’m wearing 24 Faubourg today. Early in my card-carrying perfumista days, I foolishly thought what smelled amazing to me would smell amazing to all. Had a friend over then to sniff my collection and she said “is it supposed to smell like this???” Realized then that noses differ a lot.
Ooh, I actually find this one kinda difficult. Beautiful, but difficult in a “this is not me” way. Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow!
Social Dilemma: Can I tell my coworker to change her perfume cause it’s bad?
https://www.news10.com/news/local-news/98-3-try-social-dilemma-can-i-tell-my-coworker-to-change-her-perfume-cause-its-bad/
SOTD is Philosykos with BBW Brown Sugar & Fig lotion. Some people may find fig difficult, but for the most part I don’t have trouble with it.
It is always coffee day for me. Today is my regular iced quad shot of espresso with toffee nut flavoring and skim milk.
Fig is REALLY difficult for me,especially when it’s a milky fig or a prominent fig leaf.
Maybe Philosykos for tomorrow then.
Fig isn’t difficult for me at all; it’s very clearly and easily disagreeable 🙂
I like the most temperamental fig perfume ever: TM Womanity. Fig and labdanum are the prominent notes with my skin chemistry.
I’m eating an apple cider donut for breakfast. Last year in the fall, I bought the most delicious apple cider donuts at the grocery store. This year, I saw apple cider donuts, thought they must be the same ones as last year, and bought a dozen. Sadly, they are not the same, not half as good as last year’s. I don’t know whether they were a different brand (because I don’t remember the brand from last year) or they changed the recipe. It does help that I shake them in more cinnamon sugar before I eat them.
Hoping everyone in Florida and the SE USA stays safe during Ian. The pictures from the region look horrible.
I’m wearing SL Fils de Joie, a blind buy that fills a hole in my collection between A La Nuit and Sarrasins. I love his jasmines.
I had never heard of apple cider donuts until this week but they sound good. I just looked up a recipe which uses “ apple butter” which I have never seen here. You are so exotic. Love the perfume, also tasty.
Apple butter is very easy to make, if you would like to taste it! It’s basically apple sauce that you’ve cooked until it’s thick and caramelized and smoothened.
Oh, I thought it was apple flavoured butter. Disaster averted.
They are good. Here’s a recipe that uses apple sauce instead of apple cider, or you could reduce plain ol’ apple juice, too. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/apple-cider-baked-doughnuts-with-maple-glaze-recipe
That looks good and easy ( no yeast). It will be my weekend project. Thank you!
I have never had an apple cider donut. Am I missing out?
The pumpkin donuts I got yesterday were disappointing. I couldn’t taste any pumpkin at all. They were mostly just sweet.
Good apple cider donuts do taste like apple. Bad ones taste like cinnamon sugar donuts.
Sounds like I need to hold out for the good ones, then. I don’t mind cinnamon sugar, but that belongs in my oatmeal… 🤣
I am wearing Christian Dior Gris Dior for the second day in a row. Today is my 33rd wedding anniversary and my husband and I are going to dinner tonight to celebrate. I will give myself a refreshing re-spray of this scent right before dinner tonight.

Happy anniversary!
National Coffee Day…I hope Bear is out there somewhere enjoying a triple shot espresso with a double dose of emojis! Coffee here, too…sunrise in an hour. The mornings are dark since daylight saving started but there is a flowering tarata, lemonwood tree, in the garden that fills the air with its lemon honey pollen scent. Almost mimosa with a dash of citrus. I was going to wear Chypre Mousse ( a nod to the CP about one I love ) but am off to oncology so I will go with a dab of the tame 1932 instead. I will walk home afterwards through the botanic gardens as I am hoping the lily of the valley border is in flower.
I almost wore 1932 today
I miss 🐻 Bear and his triple espresso shots
I’m not Bear, but I have a quad expresso in the morning and at night. I know it’s crazy since I still sleep like a baby most nights!
Heh, literally, me too!
Oh, I do hope so too!
I’m in Tea for Two today, which is a bit much for our warm fall weather.
I think that one is mildly difficult? Was for me, anyway.
Shalimar today — I am off to the laundromat to wash our giant (Cal king) comforter, and just in time, since our temps are to dip into the 30s overnight tonight. I’ve had three double espressos already, which is my daily limit (and those are half-caff), but am kinda wanting another one.
Thanks for the comments yesterday on Beauty Encounter; I will go ahead with my purchase!
Oh my…three shots of espresso would kill me!
I’m not a huge fan of coffee at all,but it’s part of work-culture so I consume it mostly there. We import Malawian roasted coffeebeans ourselves whenever we do the bi-monthly eyeclinic over there!
SOTD!
Caleche edt, reportedly worn by Anne The Princess Royal.I can see(smell) her in Caleche,it somewhat matches her public profile perfectly.
I tried Caron Fleurs de Rocaille today(Mugler Cologne, the original, but with a huge bunch of flowers!)and also Kayali Lovefest Burning Cherry. No scorched fruit, but a pretty juicy cherry.I would have bought it if they had the cute 10mls in stock, but I don’t need 50 or 100mls of this at all.
Happy Thursday!
XO’s
Do you need 100 mL of anything at this stage 🤣?
Nope,never again!
I did buy a “scent discovery box” today from Skins Cosmetics.14 perfumes, from Oud Satin Mood,Mojave Ghost,Portrait of a Lady,Sunny Side Up…they range between 5ml up to 14mls.I think it was a great buy!
Agree that Caleche seems a perfect match!
Doing my part for Coffee Day (isn’t everyday National Coffee Day?) by drinking piping hot coffee. I scored a bag each of Maple and Pumpkin Spice coffee at Trader Joe’s yesterday, so I’m well stocked for a bit.
RIP Coolio. Loved his music…
Once again I’m doing Reverse CP and wearing MVP. Can’t help it, I’m boring. I love it.

I found this interesting, about the growth of pumpkin spice. Pumpkin spice is not a thing here.
https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/sep/26/pumpkin-spice-latte-sales-us?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
This is the correct link
Thanks! I’m not really a fan of Pumpkin Spice Lattes. They’re just a big sugar bomb IMO. I think many of them are created using a drink mix/flavoring that tastes synthetic, at least to me. But all the warming spices in real “pumpkin spice” are a true love! Also, ginger is big in fall/winter here. Many of these spices are used in savory items as well as sweet. I’ve loved all things “pumpkin spice” long before Starbucks created their sugar bomb. I think it’s quite steeped in the culture from way back. Pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, etc., were everyday foods for indigenous populations. I think most people in the US equate “pumpkin spice” with the holidays as these have traditionally fall/winter flavors here. Starbucks showed great foresight by creating the PSL and I’m sure it’s made them millions. The UK has Yorkshire Pudding. The Scots have Haggis. And the US has Pumpkin Spice Everything. I’m sure New Zealand has some particular flavors/spices, as well
Wow, I apparently live in a serious Pumpkin Spice state! But I have never had a Pumpkin Spice Latte and have never tasted a pumpkin spice food product that I liked, although I do love pumpkin pie.
Today I am in Sarah Horowitz Perfect Vanilla. It’s fine. Nothing too special to my nose.
But today is a good day! Because yesterday evening, we reviewed offers on our old house, and accepted one! Despite all fears of a flaccid market, we got seven offers, the highest one quite a bit above asking (and the price we had hoped for in the spring, when the market was stronger)! We celebrated late last night with champagne, aaaaand I’m dragging today as a result. Oops.
Anyway, I truly hope the new owners will love the house to bits, just like we did. And maybe I can celebrate the sale again by getting yesterday’s lemming of LUSH mango shower gel. Hmmmm.
Congratulations on the house offer!
Huzzah on getting an offer for your old place that you liked!
Celebrate away but one never needs a reason to do so!
Yay for the offer, no small feat considering the current market!! Definitely celebrate in a fun way!
Congratulations on getting a great offer on your house!
Congratulations! That’s wonderful.
Fantastic, good for you.
Congratulations!
In Guerlain Jasmirera, a beautiful fragrance from a generous NSTer swap. Something about it reminds me of Goutal Chevrefeuille even though they are different flowers. It’s helping me prolong summer.
And re: Timbuktu, I really like it but it’s too light on me, hence my decision to put it on the swap list.
Never even heard of your SOTD before. Possible perfume unicorn?
Oops, Jasminora!
Breaking Perfume News: Guerlain liked my “instinctive talent” for naming fragrances and hired me on the spot! So look for their newest exclusive release “Jasmirera” to hit the shelves this fall 🙂
At one time, I drank coffee from morning to night but I’ve been set on 2 cups a day of plain dark roast, at home, for years now.
Wearing Addict, I have a vanilla craving lately. Must be the chilly weather.
Same for me, my tolerance must have gone way down over time. I still love my coffee, but rarely have it past noon these days.
95% of the time I just have the one cup in the morning. Yesterday, I’m addition to the one cup, I also had iced tea at lunch and also right before dinner – no bueno as I couldn’t sleep until late!
Good news for me came out of FL this morning. Mr. Jalapeno texted shortly after 7am to let me know that he and his stepmom were OK. A little wet, since some water did get into the house. But it looked like something that a Shop vac and a mop could take care of. And it was 1 or 2 rooms, not the entire house.
The dock in that back yard was under at least 4 feet of water at one point. As was a lot of that yard.
Sore arms from my “grocery shopping workout” yesterday. I didn’t think my bags were THAT heavy!
SOTD = 2 sprays of SSS Fireside Intense and 3 sprays of SSS incense Pure today. I like the reverse ratio better. My travel spray of Fireside Intense is down to about 25 – 30 percent full. Might have to get another one… 🤔
Yes on getting another one! SSS under new ownership used to have a discount around Mother’s Day although I did not pay attention this year. She may have it again in November.
I’ll think on it. I did discover that the travel sprays are refillable, which means I could get a couple of samples and I would be good to go.
I don’t recall what format the samples came in – dabbers?
Yes. That will make it easy to just pop off the lid and dump it into the travel spray.
Oh that’s a relief to get some decently good news out of FL! I’m happy for your husband and his stepmom.
Thank you tulipani! Ian went south of where they are at. From what I understand, it went right over Cape Canaveral.
That is good news! Glad there was not too much damage to deal with. Very nerve-wracking few days.
Yep, for sure.
You must have been so thankful to get that news! Happy for all of you.
I received a travel spray of Incense Pure in the last swap meet and I’ve been wearing it a lot lately.
Since they are on the Atlantic side of FL, I figured that the worst of Ian would be gone by the time it reached their location. Still relieved to get the A-OK.
That is good news! Glad your family members are safe!
Oh good, that’s wonderful.
So happy for your good news, it was really destructive elsewhere.
What a relief, Jalapeno! Glad they are safe.
And you smell great 🙂
Thanks Koyel!
House twins with Robin!
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
I used to be afraid of orange blossom. I took a chance with this because what have I got to lose? 🤷🏻♀️. And … I 🧡 it! Of course I had a set back with Arabian Oud Ghroob which I thought was super nasty although I bet if I were to try it now I would love it.
I commented yesterday that an employee decided to ride out the storm. He ended up getting rescued but his house was destroyed. I would probably want to live where he lived were it not for hurricane threats and too warm weather. Anyway, there you have it – he’s alive!
The pics I have seen from SE Florida are almost apocalyptic. Some of it reminds me of the worst that Superstorm Sandy produced.
Between the hurricanes, humidity and the palmetto bugs (aka giant cockroaches), I want nothing at all to do with FL!
I had heard that Hurricane Fiona was Canada’s Superstorm Sandy but I have not followed that news. I hope it was not because I think people are still digging out of all things bad that came out of Sandy.
Ooh, ITA about not wanting to live in Florida for all the reasons you mention. In my part of the Midwest, everybody either has a Florida connection to escape the winter or they want to move there. I’ll take the snow, thanks.
It’s the alligators for me. Ugh.
Yes! And they will be just as disoriented as people after this so no water more than a couple of inches deep is really safe. Saw a video of a street in a neighborhood swamped with water and there goes a shark down the street trying to figure you what the hell happened! Lol
Oh wow! He was very lucky to be rescued. Thanks for the update, I was wondering about him this morning.
I’m wondering if maybe he had an inkling about what’s going to happen. Not sure I would have stayed though …
Here’s my IG post!

Had my usual big mug of coffee first thing. Just the one generally. We have a local coffee roaster, and I can buy and grind beans where I work. Today I was drinking Death’s Door, which wasn’t as dark as one would think. (It’s named after the passage between Green Bay and Lake MI proper…historically a treacherous strip of water.)
Am eager to do a comparison of Shalimar MVP and the new Tonka. My husband proclaimed the latter beautiful. I had a single spritz of each this morning so it was a bit difficult to compare…my nose isn’t that good. Definitely same bones, but I was heading to a small group meeting and didn’t want to blast anyone out.
Yes, do report back!
I struggle with the fig note, thought I was the only one but I’m glad to see others mentioning it this week. I can’t do many of the iconic fig scents like Philosykos and Premier Figuier, something about the milky combined with the sharp green. Recently I discovered I do like fruity figs like in Gris Charnel. So today I’m wearing an in-between one, it’s Parisian Musc and does not officially have a fig note, but does smell like figs to me! It’s borderline unbearable yet doesn’t quite hit the sharpness of a Philosykos to me.
Ha!You’ve hit the nail on the head!
I smelled Parisian Musc today, and now I know why it bothered me as well!✌🏻
I can’t do Philosykos either, thought I was the odd person out, so many people love it.😉 Have you tried Hermes Mediterranee? That’s “my” fig.
Wearing Lush Ginger today. I really like this scent this time of year. To me, it’s got a bit of spice but is also a bit dusty. Nice but not too much.
Perfect for today as I’m feeling very grateful.
Sounds like you had a good day.
Yes, it was a much better day.
CP points for yesterday and today! Mitsouko yesterday and Shalimar parfum today. I found both difficult when I began exploring more fragrances, but now I like them both very much.
I grew into Shalimar but Mitsouko, still difficult!
I was able to try the newest version of Mitsouko at the Guerlain boutique, in the Les Legendaires collection, and it felt more wearable but still 100% Mitsouko. Such a shapeshifter! She changed moods all afternoon on my arm.
