Happy Hump Day! It's also the International Day for the Universal Access to Information and World Rabies Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm fighting the morning chill with L'Artisan Parfumeur Dzongkha.
Reminder: on 9/30, we're doing It's difficult, part 2...wear a fragrance that you (or someone around you?) finds difficult, for whatever reason. Suggested by Pixel, Kanuka and JB.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning!
Sotd is LV Attrape Reve.
I was putting on my makeup this morning and I realised I hit pan on my highlighter! I have more than 10 on rotation and how hard did I go at it to have hit pan before a blush? 😂 Shade is Pat Mcgrath’s Golden Moonlight.
I have this happen to my bronzers also
I honestly have probably only hit pan on a makeup item a couple times in my life….like you, too many in rotation!
Wearing L’Artisan Légendes du Cèdre from a very cute mini bottle, thanks to a very generous NSTer. Perfect cedar, patchouli scent for a cool, sunny fall morning.
Feeling very sleepy today, so coffee and more coffee to the rescue.☕️☕️☕️
Happy Wednesday!
I have the sleepies today too! So far, just tea, but there may well be a latte this afternoon.
A macchiato is due for me later today. I hope it works! 😴
Guess you needed some “triple strength coffee” today.
Coffee didn’t work for me today. I feel I will fall asleep earlier than usual tonight.
Wearing The Most Wanted on top of last night’s SSS Incense Pure. Nice combo!
It’s 65 in my house and I’m contemplating turning on the heat.
Ha, I had the in-my-head heat discussion this morning too 🙂
My house was 64 at 6 am this morning. I came so close to turning on the heat. I still might tonight.
Me too. When the sun shines we get enough passive solar that it’s not so chilly but today is gray and windy, brr.
It’s starting to feel chilly in the mornings without heat in the house.
I’m wearing Aromatics Elixir, since we are going to be cooler today. Lows in the 50s, highs in the high 80s. Such is fall in Texas.
I should probably be spending my autumns in Texas 🌞
SOTM is a test dab of Maison Crivelli Iris Malikhân — the notes, per LuckyScent, are cypress, lentisque, galbanum, orris butter, mimosa, vanilla, leather, amber, musks. Maybe it takes spraying instead of dabbing, but I’m not getting much leather or galbanum, and the musk is nearing too much for me. (Side note: why isn’t the abbreviation TMFM a thing, like YMMV or YOLO?) It’s pleasant and I will likely use up the sample, but a FB is probably not in my future … even though MC’s 30 ml bottles are perfection.
I like TMFM!
I’m in CSP Vanille Ambre, the only non-food scent of theirs I own, and frankly it smells as if you could eat it anyway. (And cooks *did* use ambergris in food, mostly in desserts, I gather, from the mid-1600s, a time when adventurous cooks for rich people were using whatever exotic ingredients were being brought back by cargo ships.)
I can imagine an ambergris ice cream…
Real ambergris smelled so different from what is now “amber” though.
Very true!
Vanille Ambre does smell kind of ice-creamy, actually, rich and a bit custardy. CSP is really genius with their vanilla scents.
In line with the CP, I have find No 5 difficult.
Wearing of few drop so the perfume and hoping I can stay along for the ride…
As do I!
Wearing Kalimantan for reassurance–I’ll be taking my driving test today after a year of lessons. Plus I’m fretting about Hurrican Ian–my parents live in manufactured housing and while they evacuated to a pet-friendly hotel, they couldn’t get the cats out from under the bed. They did leave them food and water and a clean litterbox so at least the cats can be comfortable-ish at home.
Good luck today!
I have been sampling Kalimantan and its a love for me. A great scent for what is sure to be an easy pass for your driving test!
I love those Chantacaille bottles! So pretty 😍
You’ll do great on the driving test. And smell good while doing it!
Poor kitties…they always know when something is up.
Sending good wishes to your parents AND their kitties.
Very good luck on the test, and very good luck to your parents.
Passed my test. Yay! My parents don’t have power where they currently are so my dad is conserving his cell phone battery but still ok
Yay, good for you!
Hope the test goes (went) well, and hope the kitties can get onto high ground in the house if need be.
Congratulations on passing your driving test!
I hope that your parents, and their poor kitties will be OK. 🤞🤞🤞
Still wafting MVP from last night, will hit the shower after my Trader Joe’s toasted Pumpkin bagel liberally spread with TJ’s pumpkin spice cream cheese. I’m all in for fall! 🍂🍁
I make fun of Florida and Floridians all the time, but since I’m a Floridian as well, I’m allowed to. Really, anything off the wall usually happens in Florida. The news that comes out of that state is on a whole other level. My love/hate relationship with the state is legendary as friends and family will attest to. But today, with great sincerity, it’s killing me to see the pummeling that is about to ensue. Really, so much more devastated than I ever thought possible. 😭
I get it — so very sad, no matter what one thinks on other topics.
It looks dreadful. I hope people who needed to evacuated in time.
I picked up pumpkin donuts at the grocery store today b/c of your post.
Thank you all for the kind words yesterday, I really appreciate it. Just trying to stay calm and carry on. I have a sample of Diptyque Eau Rose I’m going to wear today.
Sending comforting thoughts your way 🌹
Good luck today. Pace yourself and I hope you can relax tonight.
Sending positive thoughts — it’s tough to go through. Continuing to put one foot in front of the other is all you can do.
Back is still sore, but it’s better. I am going in to work at noon and will try to be careful. Will again seek someone else to sweep and mop.
Wearing my comfort scent of Angel Muse. It’ll work well with the bakery items.
I hope your back pain eases and your day goes well. Angel Muse is lovely
Commando ATM, about to bake a simple apple cake to take to dinner with friends we haven’t seen in several weeks (they were our pod buddies through the pandemic — we saw them probably 2-3 times/ week, outdoors, even when it was 8 degrees F with snow on the ground). I think I’m going to paint my nails after I bake. Will be only the second time since COVID started that I’ll have polish on my fingers (and the other time, it was super sheer). Gunmetal today. I’m not quite ready for Dzongkha yet, but Robin has me thinking about it. Probably Roísín Dubh again, since the hoodie I’m wearing still bears traces of it.
Has anyone purchased from BeautyEncounter? They came up in a search and seem to have good feedback on the site and on TrustPilot, but I am always wary. Yay/nay?
Apple cake? I have never tried? And I must? Sounds great! I have purchased from BE with no problems.
I used a paywalled recipe, but this is the EXACT same recipe (and predates the paywalled one); it’s a pretty popular cake, as far as I can tell from the comments on various sites.
My mods: I used a very sweet apple (Sweet Tango!), and three cups of diced apples instead of two, so I decreased the sugar to 125g. I also doused the apples in the juice of 1/2 a lemon. I did not find the batter all that difficult to mix at the end (when adding the apples and pecans), using a wooden spoon. This “cake” is more like baked apples lightly surrounded by batter than like a cake that happens to have apples in it.
We haven’t tasted it yet, but it smells heavenly and looks nice — I did use a 9″ fluted glass pie pan (which I never actually use for pies). Chopping the apples took longer than anything else.
https://food52.com/recipes/14931-easy-as-pie-apple-cake
Two additional notes:
1) The recipe I found DOES credit Food52 as the source (though again, many commenters say their families have made something similar for decades);
2) It is delicious. Even my non-dessert-loving friend enjoyed it. I’ll probably make it again for a potluck tomorrow, with GF flour.
I have bought perfumes several times from Beauty Encounter without any issues.
I can also vouch for Beauty Encounter. I picked up quite a few Amouage samples from there.
You’re reminding me that this is a good week to give Dzongkha another try. I so want to love it…. Duchaufour + incense. But on me, it smells like celery water.
I’m with you on Dzonghka!
Oh, no!!! Two for “celery water.” My only problem with it is that sometimes it “overblooms” and becomes NSFW.
I went for something difficult for me; Masque Kintsugi. I’m not sure what it is about this one. It gives me the sensation of components that are fine on their own but jarring in combination, like drinking orange juice after brushing my teeth after drinking orange juice. I gave it more of a chance today, though, and after the initial shock it settles into being quite nice.
*don’t know what happened to my sentence structure there, I meant to say ‘…after brushing my teeth with minty toothpaste’
I better double check my emails before sending today! There might be a glitch in my neurons today.
All you had to say was orange juice after toothpaste, and I gagged! Very visceral reaction there.
Light thunderstorms moving through the area. Slapped on some Opium lotion but somehow, it turned. So, I grabbed some Rose Royale from a sample. A darker, syrupy rose with some musk. Not bad.
Are you in a better frame of mind this week?
Happy Humpday!
Mossyberry,I’m glad I inspired your window-washing haha!It does feel good when things get done!
SOTD!From a difficult brand, because I’m having a true love-hate relationship with Kayali.Today I’m in total-love Vanilla from them.It covers all the bases for me:true to the scent-profile,sillage is great and longevity excellent.I wish I could say the same about the Eden Juicy apple,Deja-vu White Flower and the Amber one(they all have great properties, but also some bothersome chemical drydowns, weak longevity, etc etc…)
Anyhu!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
I had a semi-stressful one,I always frett about things that need to be done like renewing my car’s licence and registration which is a yearly thing-fretted because usually the ques are endless, systems are offline, they ran out of paper to print the damn thing….lol.Today was actually a breeze and now I can relax for another year.Haha!
XO’s
Registration stresses me out too. Mostly because of the cost.
Thanks for the reminder! I got something in the mail to renew it but I have been too lazy to send it in.
Window washing, car registration: yay for things that last until next year!
So glad it went better than you expected!
Wearing Clinique Wrappings today, layered along with the lotion. This is an easy one for me, so it’s not cp compliant.
I was late yesterday in posting, but just wanted to say thanks again to those who sent your positive thoughts through! This is such a great community!
Wrappings is easy for me as well. I think you smell great!
Thank you, Jalapeno! I checked the Clinique website to see if it’s back; still not. Let’s hope it’s around this year. In the meanwhile, I’m glad to have a backup set waiting in the wings.
Usually I see Wrappings showing up around Thanksgiving or thereabouts. That did not happen last year, though.
My package has arrived just as Guerlain said, very friendly postman like everyone in the south of France.
It is very Shalimaresque midway but smoothed out (also less striking maybe), but it differs in the drydown, imagine the most suave, elegant gentleman’s cologne But much sweeter, the sweetness is partly vanillic but also the tonka which glows in this blend and explain the fougère cologne impression I think. Longevity is impressive, I sprayed my hand around noon and at 19:30 it is still detectable. In the drydown some of the guerlinade is evident. I find it very different from all flankers previously released. I’ve decided to leave it in Provence, I’ll use it during vacations only so it will remain special.
Thanks for the review. As soon as you said gentlemens cologne I lost the lemming. Money saved and more for everyone else!
😀 Ah glad I could help you kill the lemming.
So it sounds like your brother is not getting the Shalitonk?
That’s right, I keep it for myself, it’s too good 😀
Shalitonk! Perfect!
Snow is forecast for later today but at the moment it is warm and dark, not yet dawn. On my drive inland last weekend you could see spring creeping up the hillsides. The plains and lower slopes were vivid green with new growth while the upper slopes were still brown with patches of snow. The orchard blossoms were candy floss pink and the first signs of wild thyme were showing: small patches of purple in the scrub. Funny, too, to see and hear tourists again after two years of quiet. Lots of lambs pronking and calves . I am wearing Autumn Vibes. Not difficult for me but Alex finds that it smells like a swamp. I planted sunflowers yesterday so here’s hoping.
A swamp? I am definitely going to re-test this one next time I am at Sephora.
Swamp? Ewwwwwwwwww. Not good!
It is nice to think of sunflowers when you have snow on the way…fingers crossed!
I’m CP-compliant (I think) in La Curie Ossuary today. I love it, but I think a lot of other people might find the combination of smoke/incense and iris/violet to be difficult. (But hey, I don’t have to care, as I’m alone in the house all day!)
I love Ossuary and think you smell marvelous!
Ooh, that sounds really good to me!
Gail, I would be happy to send you a sample – email me at l e s l i c o r t h e l l atttt gee mail dot com.
I just sent you an email!
Claude Montana today from sample spray. I like it, thought about getting a bottle but have so many already and just got a few more (J-Scent A Shaft of Light, Cartier baiser Vole edp, Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black & Sofia by Sophia Vergara – the last 3 are fragrancenet sale)
Hajusuri – the 19-69 Capri sprays question – doesn’t seem to matter! Have done 10, have done 3, all kinda goes away by 30 min. Happy with my purse spray, might even repurchase a purse spray for next summer, but not a full bottle.
Got it!
Robin, what a lovely photo of bougainvillea. I have dreams of covering my backyard shed/gym in hot pink bougainvillea in the next year or so.
In L’Aromatica Kulfi again because I want to be permanently wrapped in a perfume hug.
And thank you all for your wonderful anniversary wishes on Monday 🙂
We are featuring photos from that gentleman all week…he seems to travel so there is quite a range!
I miss bougainvillea. People do grow it here in containers but that is just not the same…a whole wall of it is so lovely.
Commando right now because I’m a bit congested, but last night I was CP complaint, testing out Salome. I was sent this sample instead of another Papillon one I requested. I was bracing myself for something really skanky and challenging, and was pleasantly surprised that, while I caught an undertone of something urinous, it was very wearable. Glad I tried it!
What does the skank come from? Smelly jasmine or musk or something else?
There’s hyrax and castoreum listed among the notes… so, animalic? I don’t think any of the challenging scent is from the florals. It’s not indolic.
I’m still enjoying my mother’s visit, she goes home tomorrow. We had planned a drive up the coast this afternoon, but the weather is rubbish, wet and windy with low cloud, which puts paid to nice coastal views.
I don’t think I have many perfumes that find difficult, my tastes are more conservative than I might have expected 🙂
We’re going to visit my baby great-niece this morning, and I’m thinking of something gentle and friendly like Guerlain’s Myrrhe et Délires.
Enjoy all your familial visits!
Sorry you did not get to make your trip, but a baby great niece is consolation!
I have one heck of a headache today. I felt fine this morning when I put on my sotd which is Shalimar edp. Now though I just want to shower it off.
Feel better soon Lillyjo! 🌻
Yuck. Headaches are the pits, especially if they are weather-induced. Hope it goes away soon!
I barely get headaches but when there’s “weather” of some type, I get a dull earache and sometimes an old ankle injury would make itself known.
Hoping the headache faded and that you can get a good night sleep.
I wore a teeny spray of Dragonfly this morning because I was going out for both physical and occupational therapy, and don’t want to waft anything much over there. I’m watching the hurricane coverage and it’s gripping–pretty horrific. I wish the reporters would not take all the risks they do!
Yesterday I mentioned wearing SL Borneo 1843, and several of you commented. I didn’t make it back on site in the afternoon/evening, but replied this morning. I didn’t want you to think I’d ignored you!
Hope that your PT & OT went well today.
Thanks for the reply about your Borneo 1843 – and as to your question, I have not tried CM; just wondering about it. My FragranceNet perfume-of-the-Month sample is VC&A Moonlight Patchouli, so I am on a patchouli quest.
Ah, good! My favorite it CDG Luxe Patchouli, but it’s definitely a “difficult” one. Some people like Coromandel (Chanel). I also like Perris Monte Carlo Patchouli Nosy Be a lot! I hope you find one that you love.
Eventful day today! On the more mundane side, I walked over to the grocery store and came back with 4 reusable bags full of stuff. More of a workout than I expected, hah. 💪
The big news is from Florida. Mr. Jalapeno’s stepmom had her knee replacement surgery this morning. It went well, and she is back at home recovering. They are seeing some weather from Ian, but as Mr. Jalapeno put it “nothing outrageous”. 🌀
SOTD = 3 sprays of SSs Fireside Intense and 2 sprays of SSS Incense Pure. I found my empty travel sprayer that used to have Incense Pure in it, and decanted some of my 15mL bottle into it, since the spray mechanism on the bottle has given up.
Wow, that’s a quick discharge from the hospital. I hope her recovery is swift and they continue to stay safe. Glad they aren’t seeing anything too crazy with the weather.
I’m keeping a close eye on our “owners FB group” for storm updates. Some of the folks are posting videos so its a bit of a comfort to get first hand accounts. Praying that everyone is safe!
Some of the video coming out of the Fort Meyers area is scary stuff.
Wonder how wild things will get for Mr. Jalapeno and his stepmom.
I watched some on YT earlier before it made landfall. I’m definitely a worrier, so I couldn’t watch too much. I hope that Mr Jalapeno and his step Mom remain safe and dry.
I was watching videos on FB where our condo is. We are supposed to be heading out in a few weeks.
Hope the hurricane stays mild in their area. Glad the surgery went well.
I hope her recovery goes well!
Thanks. She’s already had both hips replaced. Next on the “To Do” list is the other knee, and eventually her ankles.
I’m late today! I have my fingers crossed that everyone in Ian’s path stays safe. Wearing Cologne Pour Le Soir.
Late today too and wearing Miller et Bertaux In, from a generous NSTer swap. It’s perfect for the cool day.
SOTD = Guerlain Cherry Oud
🍒 Oud – I was happy to get a sample from my Bergdorfs SA. Since I WFH today, I decided to wear it because I have no clue about its sillage, etc. Let’s just say it was on the tame / timid side and it could be because I only wore 5 small spritzes. It smells like sweet cherry band-aid. I will retain the sample and try it again at some point in the near future.

We have an employee who decided that he was going to ride out a storm on his little island even though orders to evacuate came on Monday and the threat has already been there a few days prior. He now wants to be rescued. We’re not sure of his exact circumstances but he made his choice and now it’s too late to go rescue him safely. I don’t understand human nature…
Sweet cherry Band-Aid? 🤔
It’s an unfortunate situation that employee is in, but it was his choice to stay.
Some people’s decisions totally amaze me! Unfortunately, some decisions lead to grave consequences. Hope this isn’t your coworker’s case.
I sprayed Cherry Oud on a blotter and also got cherry band-aid! I’ve heard some ouds described as band-aid-like, but this is the first time I’ve experienced it.
I might like a cherry band-aide, but not an FB of it – thanks for reporting on it. I hope your co-worker will be okay!
Christian Dior Gris Dior
SotD Geoffry Bean. Fragrantica notes don’t mention amber. Wonder why I smell that?
