It's Tuesday and National Chocolate Milk Day. Also, World Tourism Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
(Update: and I meant to say that it's the last day of the swapmeet! Make those deals while you still can.)
I’m in Bruno Fazzolari Lampblack, because allo mentioned it last week. (I don't know, does it warrant community project points?) Tea at the moment is an organic Ceylon from Idulgashinna Estate, via Upton, brewed with cacao husk and sprinkled with a shaving of nutmeg.
Reminder: on 9/30, we're doing It's difficult, part 2...wear a fragrance that you (or someone around you?) finds difficult, for whatever reason. Suggested by Pixel, Kanuka and JB.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Serge Lutens Daim Blond.
Happy Tuesday! ☕️
Oh, that’s one of my favorites! I’ve gotten compliments on that one. You smell wonderful!
Thank you, Nancy! It is a beautiful scent and very easy to wear. Love it!
You smell so good!
Thank you Sistine! 😊
You smell wonderful! My bottle is nearly empty.
Thank you, Cazaubon! My bottle is less than half. I may consider a replacement when finished.
Daim Blond is surprisingly laid back for an older SL fragrance.
It is one of the few Serge Lutens that I don’t need to give a second thought to wear it. Such pretty and easy to wear
In Serge Lutens Chypre Rouge, which I expect some people would find difficult but which I loved instantly because it’s so *odd*. Not a chypre but pleasantly red, the dark red of wine gums, which it smells like.
In Walmart on the weekend I succumbed to a couple of hand soaps, by the brand Live Clean (never heard of it): I guess it’s their Christmas line and therefore limited edition (but ridiculously inexpensive at $4.99 each). One of them is Vanilla Peppermint, which smells exactly like those butter mints and is therefore irresistible, and the other is Gingerbread Latte, more gingerbread than latte to my nose but that’ll do nicely. (They have a third, Holly Berry, which is just synthetic fruit, so it didn’t make it into my cart.) Big fat 500-mL bottles, so I guess I’m covered for the next year: I’m just now making it to the bottom of SDM/Life Brand’s Christmas bottled soaps from last year (one peppermint vanilla — as I said, irresistible — and one toffee).
Mmmm, the gingerbread one has my name on it. Thanks for the tip!
Live Clean has been around for a while — I can get it at Shoppers & London Drugs. Pretty sure it’s a Canadian company. I used their shampoos for my kid when she was growing up (though now she’s on to more salon-ish stuff) — seemed better than the big drugstore brands.
Thank you for the heads up that their holiday soaps are out! I love their Vanilla Peppermint, as does my kid, so I’ll go look for some to stock up.
BF Monserrat is one of my favorites. Now on to explore Lampblack. Sounds intriguing.
Lampblack and Feu Secret are my two favorites, but I honestly can’t remember if I tried Monserrat.
Those are my 2 favorites too and Monserrat is also lovely.
Commando for a doctor’s appointment, then I have my heart set on Nicolai Vanille Tonka. I’ll see if that becomes my sotd when I get home, my heart can be pretty fickle.
Hope the appt goes well ringthing!
Hope that you got good news today at your appointment, ringthing!
I’m in Ginger Piccante, which is not a difficult fragrance for me. I love ginger.
Why isn’t there a ginger emoji?? And btw, if you google ginger in emojipedia you get red hair emojis.
I’m in a mix of B683 and Shalimar Initial, thanks to a generous NSTer. Drinking Upton Doomni Estate Assam from the same NSTer, so I’m feeling quite fancy today. 😊❤️🫖
The cool weather finally arrived last night, so I need to go through my clothes in the next few days…
How is that Assam?
It’s very good, refined and easy to drink! I haven’t had any Upton before, and I’m impressed.
Thanks!
It’s a great company, I have been ordering from them for years. And generally, you can much better price-per-cup than you’d think!
I’m in Wood Sage and Sea Salt, which is probably as far away from difficult as you can get.
Woke up way too early this morning so I watched the stars disappear and the sun rise. It was so peaceful. While I won’t set an alarm to do it again, I won’t be too mad if a restless brain gets me up early enough to repeat the experience.
Oh how cool! When I wake early I just sit and stew, I should go sit on the porch and watch the sun rise.
I love doing that. My policy is if I wake up any time after 4am, I just get up and start my day, which is one hour of meditation in front of a large window. Love watching the dawn arrive.
I get negative CP points in Eau Claire de Merveilles, but it smells great in this cooler, beautiful weather we’re having.
That is indeed negative points, and you do indeed smell great!
I’m in Ormonde Jayne Woman, from the splitmeet. So beautiful.
I have just finished an amazing book called Underland by Robert Macfarlane. It is pure poetry about nature, the underground world and about our planet. Highly recommend this one.
This weekend bought some essential oils from a local producer. Last night I tried Artemisia, it has a very nice smell and its properties are many: calming, helps the immune system and hormones. Has anyone tried it?
That book looks really interesting, thanks for the rec!
That tea sounds delicious. I’m in Lush’s Amelie Mae today.
It is the closest I get to chocolate milk 🙂
Hello!
Sotd is Shalimar MVP.
I’d like a cup of chocolate milk, it’s been forever since I had one. If I go to the supermarket later today it’ll definitely be in my cart.
You smell great!
Yes, you smell great! I’ve been thinking I should wear this one, to console myself about not getting the new Tonka one. 😜
I wore my MVP after sapphire asked me if I got a cancellation of the tonka one and yes, my order was cancelled 😡
I will wear Cherry Oud tomorrow as I discovered my Bergdorf SA made me a sample and I will be WFH.
SOTD Ganymede
I don’t know it but I’m sure you smell nice 🙂
Robin, your SOTM might be difficult for some, but clearly it isn’t for you! 😆
SOTM for me is Paracelsus, and another shout-out to jalapeno for clueing me in on it. Gorgeous! Mr. G has negative associations around patchouli, so the CP this week is kind of a gift to me as it gives me an excuse to wear scents that I otherwise save for times when he’s out of the house.
I have some friends that don’t care for patch at all, so there are some perfumes I know not to wear around them.
Perfect time of the year for Paracelsus!
Exactly 🙂
Wearing Clinique Happy today since nothing really called to me. Looked at the farmer’s almanac and it looks like Ohio is up for a rough winter.
I LOVE Happy
SOTD is nothing too exciting, but I like it. Gucci Bloom.
Works!
Bvlgari Black – used to be difficult for me, but I love it now.
Putting shoes on and out the door for a morning walk!
That’s such a good one. Enjoy your walk!
Enjoy!🌞
Love Bvlgari Black so much! It is weird and wonderful 🙂 You smell great!
Sampling Prada Paradoxe today which is anything but a paradox. 😉 Nice enough but very smells derivative and like you have sniffed it a dozen times before. That said I have been on an orange blossom kick and it’s going to be hot in SoCal today so it’s a good choice.
I am still marveling at Vee’s kittens from yesterday’s thread. 3!!! Respect. 🙂 🐈
Thanks! I was woken up multiple time last night by one who needed exactly two head scritches and no more every hour or so. And then around 5am they spotted a bug, which lead to kitten zoomies for all three. They are so much fun but wow am I going to need an afternoon nap! 🙂
I haven’t ventured into Prada territory beyond the Candys and Infusions so I don’t know Paradoxe. Is it primarily orange flower?
It’s citrus, orange flower, jasmine, vanilla and maybe some woods…just smells quite generic. Like it might be the most generic perfume I can think of in recent memory.😅
Shame. I feel like Prada is not worth bothering with these days.
I wasn’t impressed with Paradoxe either.
I like the shape and sustainability of the Paradoxe bottle and have yet to try it.
Orange blossom is surprisingly tricky for me. Can’t do the soapy ones at all!
I’m going out this morning to clean the gutters wearing DSH Mata Hari. I like the juxtaposition of an opulent perfume and a mundane chore.
I like to do that too!
One or two spritzes of Black Perfecto EdP on my wrist.
Blustery day here – overcast and windy. Hints of leaves starting to turn in our woods.
I managed to do something to my back. Woke up sore on Sunday and the car ride home exacerbated it horribly. I worked yesterday and was careful. But…still a mess. Am icing it now. Sitting at our counter on a stool. Never done this before. Ageing …it’s a beautiful thing….
Ouch. Maybe it will help to be home and on your own mattress? It’s amazing what a difference that can make.
I think I just missed you at WF the other day- you were right in my neighborhood!😀
Feel better soon!
Boo for back pain! Spikey balls work wonders for me and what I suspect is sciatica. I hope the ice is enough though.
Icing is a great idea. Take it easy for a day or two!
Bleurgh on the back pain!
So sorry, back pain is the worst!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon!
Mmm, chocolate milk. The very best I’ve ever tasted is Kalona supernatural organic whole chocolate milk. Rich, creamy, decadent. If you like chocolate milk, I would highly recommend it!
I’m in Fleur de Peau. I haven’t worn this in a long time and it’s just as good as I remember. Two sprays lasts me all day.
The sun and blue skies are back! I am a happy camper.😎
You smell so good and, yes, it’s long-lasting.
Thanks Aurora! We are both fans of this one.☺️
I hope I get your sun tomorrow.
It might be on the way!🤞Now it’s clouded over.
Partly sunny here today. Not bad!
So glad the sun helped!
Shalimar today, which I think counts for the CP because it took me a while to love it. And also because I have a hair appointment this afternoon that I didn’t know about (it seems to have slipped through all the automated reminder systems, the salon’s and my own), and my stylist has lots of sensitivities and allergies so I try to go commando when I see her — IOW, I’d better have a good scrub before I head out.
Thanks for the responses yesterday about getting a second cat. Still up in the air.
Do you have a version of Shalimar you consider your favorite? I have an enjoy the modern eau de cologne very much!
I have the EDP. Any other versions I’ve tried would have been years and years ago, before I’d developed much of a sense of what a good fragrance could be — and I honestly don’t remember which formulas (whatever the Macy’s counter at a mid-range suburban mall could offer).
Hope that your hair appointment went well today.
SOTD is Smell Bent The Yard Next Door, which is not a CP scent, but I ordered a bunch of small bottles to try before he closed up shop, and then they seemed more like fall/winter scents, so I put them away and didn’t really try them until I pulled the bag out this morning. It kind of works for today — it’s going to be fairly warm and sunny, and this works well with it.
What is The Yard Next Door like?
Very pleasant, somewhat green but not overwhelmingly grassy. A nice mix, no overwhelming grass or earth notes (I really didn’t pick up any earth note, or eucalyptus, though they’re supposedly there). Not floral at all, not soil, nice but not overwhelming. I wouldn’t have bought an FB but the small bottle is nice. (If I’m going for green / earth / flower / spring scents, I prefer Fox in the Flowerbed or M2 Black March.) It reminds me a bit of the IA The Soft Lawn sample I got with Fox in the Flowerbed — I should try them against each other.
With the fall weather here, I’m in Chanel’s Coco (edp). A friend said, “That’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever smelled. What in the hell is that and where can I get some?” He couldn’t believe it when I told him. More proof that gender designations for scents is outdated.
Haha, that’s awesome. I love that response! Will have to dig mine out soon.
Hope that your friend goes and gets some!
So, being on holidays in Southern France, I haven’t been shopping for perfume and resisted duty-free too, it was painless but when I browsed Guerlain Paris website Shalimar Tonka was in stock and there was a 3-day 25% discount sitewise which must be very rare: I caved in and am waiting for my order to arrive shortly. Shaltonk as I call it will stay in Provence, joining Un Jardin après la mousson which I’m wearing today.
Glad you were able to get a bottle and at a discount!
Thank you Lillyjo, I couldn’t believe my eyes, hoping now that I won’t be disappointed in the scent. If it leans too masculine I’ll give it to my brother.
Congratulations on getting hold of that Shaiimar Tonka version!
Thank you Jalapeno, fingers crossed I like it.
Ooh, lucky you!
It is such a coincidence that I am in France just when it is released.
Oh, joy! I bet you smell fab! 😃
I am yet to receive it, it should be today, I will report on it, promised.
I love the name Shaltonk!
😀
Congratulations on getting a coveted bottle!
Let’s hope it smells good.
Wearing 19-69 Capri. Strong bitter orange on a quiet bed of florals. This disappeared within 10 minutes in the heat of the summer and it disappeared in the not heat of today within 20 minutes. So, while gorgeous and I bought a purse spray, definitely difficult not getting even a full hour! Harumph.
How many sprays?
Still under the weather, but had to spritz on something to warm me up, I’m wearing Akkad.
Hope you feel better soon!
Boo, hope it’s the last day of that.
This week so far is a community project all by itself…DIFFICULT!!And it’s only Tuesday!Haha!
Had to wear an easy perfume for a strenuous day at work:Agent Provocateur edp.Not quite work-appropriate,but worth it for the fun element.
Happy Tuesday!
XO’s
We were very close to being twins today. You smell great!
Thank you, JB for getting the window washing ball rolling! Your comment made me face facts that some of my windows were not so pleasant to look out of! LOL – I think some spiders were not very happy with me, but they can just make their cob webs somewhere else!
Someday soon I need to wash the windows that the cats look out of. Their little nose prints are all over them!
Sorry JB, hope the AP helped move the day along 🙂
Hi all. I’m wearing SL Borneo 1843 today. In my imagination it might serve as a friendly, easy patchouli, but when I sprayed it on, I thought in reality it’s pretty edgy and probably won’t persuade any skeptics. Oh well. It’s actually kind of aromatic and pretty, not raw and dark like some. It’s still hot here this afternoon but in the morning was refreshingly cool for the first time in months. Hurray! Hope springs eternal!
I bought some frozen ginger pumpkin ice cream cones at Trader Joe’s along with salted maple ice cream. Can’t wait to try them!
Sounds delicious! I saw pumpkin pie ice cream sandwiches at Whole Foods this weekend, but resisted the urge!
Do you have a current version of Borneo? I’ve always thought M. Lutens could be the one to create my ideal patchouli, but of course this is one that is almost legendary. Sort of. Speaking of SL, have you tried Cuir Maresque?
No, mine is at least 10 years old and perhaps older. I haven’t tried the current version. And I think I’ve tried CM but it was so long ago, I don’t remember. Do you like it?
I have both ice creams in my fridge right now. They are really good. The mini cones are much tastier than the maple ice cream. Their pumpkin ice cream is also delish.
Well, I think the salted maple ice cream is wonderful! I had to force myself to stop eating last night or I would have demolished the entire container in one sitting. Maybe the pumpkin ginger is more unusual and distinctive, but I didn’t think the cone held up well. It seemed a bit stale and/or soft, not crispy.
That salted maple ice cream sounds awesome!
I have had the salter maple ice from from TJ’s and can report it’s yummy. 🙂
Yes, it is!
Oh my, ice cream enabling!
I have Borneo 1843 in the bottle with a SL house label. Somehow, mine seemed a little watered down but it could have been because I was careful not to overspray. I will have to wear it again.
I need to give that one a sniff someday.
Those ginger pumpkin ice cream cones sound very tempting!
It did not persuade me 😉
LOL! Is there any patchouli that might do that?
I liked one of the Reminiscence ones, Elixir I think? And a couple of the Angel flankers. So it can be done 😉
Hello there NST!
I keep forgetting to report on a summer NST Daily Lemming that Robin posted quite a while ago. I jumped on the Philosophy Ginger Tea shower gel, since it was on sale and sounded quite good. It is currently in use, but does not smell at all like what I would consider ginger tea. I took a deep sniff of it during my shower earlier today, and the notes that came to mind are: Orange, Sweet, and a little Herbal.
I don’t think I will get more Philosophy shower gels in the future. It seems that they are a little drying for my skin now that I have reached menopause. A bit of a shame, since I like some of their scents.
SOTD = back in 3 sprays of SSS Fireside Intense and 2 sprays of SSS Incense Pure.
Thanks for reporting back. I only had one of their shower gels before in Fresh Cream. I just remember it was very fragrant and lingered well after the shower.
I’ve had several of the Philosophy shower gels in the past. Guess it’s time for me to move on.
Ooh, I want to sit next to you as you are wafting something good!
I have sworn off Philosophy body and face care although I do get the perfumes. I agree that the shower cream is very drying. Also, I was allergic to something in the unscented face wash and that was the end of the line for me.
LOL! I can’t do the perfumes from Philosophy. Just not my jam at all.
There is one skin care product from Philosophy that I swear by, and it’s the “Clear Days Ahead Oil Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment and Moisturizer”.
Oohh… I might get this for my daughter.
Thank you so much for reporting back! Sorry it does not smell like ginger tea, sorry it is drying…but very good to know.
Another sad day here. One of my aunt’s on my mother’s side passed away. 2 deaths in 2 months. I really dislike hearing bad news by text.
I’m baking chicken again to fight the furnace urge. I’m going to try to make chicken noodle soup.
My sotd is Lolita Lempika. I think the licorice makes it difficult sometimes.
I’m so sorry lillyjo.
I agree, getting bad news by text stinks.
Thank you madtowngirl.
My condolences upon the loss of your aunt. I only recently got into texting. I’m not sure I like it for important things, either. Fighting furnace twins! I have a big, snuggly cotton cardigan that’s coming out tonight!
Thank you.
I’m wearing my long johns!
I am deeply sorry, Lillyjo. Sending hugs.
Thank you pl67.
Sorry about the bad news. I baked banana bread today.
Thank you.
I really need to learn how to bake banana bread.
I used the Joy of Cooking recipe, easy & tasty.
So sorry for your loss, lillyjo. I don’t like getting sad news via text either. My family is famous for Facebook bad news…
What really got me was my brother responding with mostly emojis. When I see him I am going to say something about it.
Maybe you can gesture emojis and see how he likes that? Just kidding, of course. He probably thought you would be ok with it.
In all fairness, if you’re sending bad news via text, I stand up for the emojis…I mean, it wasn’t worth a call to someone, so why not emojis? Unless you mean he was responding to you personally and not the person sending the text.
My sympathies on your Aunt’s passing. ITA, getting bad news by text sucks balls. 😡 Email is slightly better. Phone calls or face to face are my preferred methods, unpleasant as it may be to hear bad news that way.
It’s just more proper to call imo.
BTW, I turned off the heat after a couple of days, and had to pop on the A/C for a bit yesterday. The weather here has been so crazy!
https://youtu.be/o0-QswAafVc
Thought of this. Made me laugh.
Fun fact… this episode was written by Norm Macdonald (R.I.P)
That was darkly funny!
I’m sorry for your loss and just as sad for the inexcusable text. Chicken soup is good for the soul. I followed the linked recipe many times when I actually had a kitchen, and I will say without modesty it was the best chicken noodle soup I ever had! I think the trick is roasting the whole chicken in the oven first and then submerging it in the soup pot. It was a bit time consuming but so worth it! 😋
https://youtu.be/_PpmOjLZDPs
Thanks Deva.
I actually have a whole chicken in my freezer, but have never cooked one before. I will add this to my recipes to try.
Very sorry for your loss, lillyjo.
Thank you She-ra.
So sorry lillyjo, that’s too much in such a short time.
I’m so sorry about your Aunt, lillyjo. Sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your aunt, lillyjo. Sending you scented hugs.
So sorry Lillyjo, two in two months is a sad statistic, texts are not a favored way either, I am very close to my aunts.
Sotd Avon Perceive again. I did not realize how perfectly it fit the CP when I randomly grabbed it over the weekend. Freesia and pear are so *not* what I want in a perfume, yet this one calls to me. Maybe I have some sort of snobbery and because I know it is a Sheldrake creation, I expect it to be good! Or maybe it’s just the freesia I’ve been looking for!
There are a few perfumes that I didn’t expect to like, based on the notes they had. Surprise! Just goes to show that you need to either give it a sniff or try it on skin to be sure.
I went and sprayed some on. I can not stand freesia myself. I can’t pick it out in here though. I get something soapy but mostly spiciness. It’s one of those perfumes where I keep smelling my wrists. I feel under the radar fancy because of it being a Christopher Sheldrake. Lol.
Love the artisanal cup!
SOTD = Memo Paris Eau de Memo
So good! 😍
A two-fer post because I was too lazy to do one yesterday:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CjB1IVyOVdl/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I had free pizza today and sadly, I barely ate 1, not because it wasn’t good but because I tried to eat two slices at the same time (I faced the toppings of each slice against each other) and I was barely half-way through when my next meeting happened and I had another one right after. I kept thinking to myself does pizza expire? It does for sure eventually but definitely not 2 hours into eating it!
Hey, I can see your Instagram again!
I’m not the person to ask if pizza expires… I’ve had a pizza last for almost a week in my fridge.
Yay! I wonder what IG did to make it not visible. Oh well, glad you can see it now!
Yay for free pizza!
Past 3 days and it gets stale imo.
Been AWOL a few days since I had to travel to SF and help my parents get ready to move into assisted living. My mother is in very bad condition, dramatically worse since I saw her in April. My respect to those who are caretakers, this is my first experience and it is very difficult. I am here until Saturday, may or may not post again depending on how things go for the rest of the week. I did wear perfume on Sunday, but my nose is filled with unpleasant smells and I don’t want to form any bad memory links, so if I wear anything at all it will be a random sample.
Good luck, cazaubon. So sorry to hear that your mom is dramatically worse.
So sorry to hear this cazaubon. Sending you thoughts of strength for what is to come. Hugs.
Sorry to hear about your mom. Lots of unpleasant smells around health care. If you have any essential oil, put a drop on your mask and that might negate a lot of the less than stellar smells. 😷
I’m very sorry cazaubon. It’s so hard. Hugs to you.
Also sorry to hear this and sending big hugs and strength.
That is so hard. Good luck getting the move done, and best wishes to your parents in their new place.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. Sending you hugs as you navigate the next little while.
It’s very hard to witness our parents’s declining, so sorry, sending hugs.
Just getting up and ready for my shift (aka The 💩 Show!) and haven’t decided what to wear. I’m thinking MVP because it’s 100% Pure Love 🎼 (you’re welcome for the ear worm!) and there’s not one single thing I would change about it. Not the opening, middle, or dry down- all perfect. Don’t know if I’ll ever get my hands on the Tonka version but very grateful I have this one.
Coffee. I need lots of coffee…☕️
Hope it’s a boring shift!
Oh, thank you! I’m just exhausted and hope to make it through the next 12 in an upright position, lol.
Very late chiming in today; I wore Phi Une Rose de Kandahar. Rose itself is still a bit difficult for me but I enjoy this one!
Thank you to everyone for your positive thoughts yesterday. I think it helped a lot! I love our caring NST community here. And thank you to Robin for keeping this such a great place to land!
I love Rose de Kandahar. I’ve been out of the loop but sending positive thoughts back to you!
