Happy Friday and happy National Mango Day. Our community project for today: wear a perfume (or a body product?) with a mango note, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I’m back in Hermès Un Jardin Sur le Nil.
Reminder: 7/29 is International Tiger Day...wear whatever you think fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning and TGIF!
Sotd is TdG Fruit Defendu. Imagine biting into a big, juicy, golden mango and inhaling all it’s perfume while the nectar drips down your arm. Yeah, yummm.
Currently drinking lavender Earl Grey.
That sounds so good!
I agree!
Your description is making me want to eat a mango or make a mango smoothie…
Enjoy your tea
As far as I know the only scent I have with any mango in it is Chopard Cašmir (an ancient but well-preserved commercial sample), not that I’d be able to pick mango out of the massive compôte of fruit and vanilla. It’s the very definition of too-muchness.
Thanks for the idea – I am joining you in Casmir. I also did not know it has mango – as you say, there is a lot going on. I find it very dense, and the fruit I notice is big-time peach.
I still remember the first time I smelled Casmir. It was at a Macy’s perfume counter and hit my nose the instant I walked through the door. So much muchness. Beautiful! 🙂
I agree with you on the ‘too-muchness.’ I only wear it in the winter and it’s almost ‘too much’ even then.
Casmir is strictly a winter perfume for me, so I am joining Laila.
In Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling. It is blooming beautifully on this kind of warm day in the upper 90’s.
On my second cup of iced coffee and glad it is Friday!
Happy and healthy day, everyone! 🌞
You smell wonderful today.
Thank you! 🌻
You smell lovely and we are twins in BB. Agree that it works well in hot/humid weather. Have a great weekend!
Thank you, Adanst! We smell amazing today in Bombay Bling!
You smell wonderful! I wore that one yesterday on a warm but not hot day.
I’m also very glad it’s Friday! This was a stressful week.
Thank you! 🌻
Time for some mango gelato to go with your SOTD?
No mango gelato at home, but I will grab mango sorbet from my local supermarket tomorrow.! Perfect time for it! 🥭
Joining Robin and probably a lot of people in Un Jardin Sur le Nil. It smells so good, I don’t know why I don’t wear it all the time. Happy Friday everyone!
Joining you in Nil…we smell delicious!
Another twin in Nil!
Guessing we will be a crowd…it is already 9 pm but just now getting to read the comments.
Hello everyone.
I don’t think I have any mango for the CP.
Today I am in Oud Fume by Chantecaille from a sample. This is marketed for Men, but I really like it. It really blooms in the heat.
I started reading Vladimir, so far so good.
Are you feeling any better now?
I am totally CP compliant in Timbuktu. Imagine my surprise when Fragrantica listed it as a mango fragrance. They listed it as the first note in the top notes.
Hiya, scent twin!
Hello everyone! In the Jardin sur le nil and it’s a lovely place to be with you all today. Have had very little sleep this week and to occupy myself last night I tried to spell the word “mango” with my perfume bottles, so here is what I managed: Mandragore poupre (Annick Goutal), Allure (Chanel), Nahéma (Guerlain), Goldea (Bulgari) and Oscar (Oscar de la Renta). I haven’t played word games with my bottles before but it helped to pass many hours last night! Not going to wear them all together but they look like fun one by one. Wishing you all a good day!
I’m sorry your sleep is disturbed, but I *love* your word game, and the results! Allure, Nahema and Oscar are certainly aroma therapy of the best kind. (I don’t know the other two.)
Thank you MossyBerry! It was definitely a fun way to spend some time at whatever time it was! 😃
What a fun word game. I have come across this sleep/insomnia cure, which is to try to rattle off as many non-related random words until you doze off. It has worked for me once or twice, but it’s surprisingly hard to not name words/things that are connected!
I hope you get better sleep tonight!
Thank you Tulipani and hey, that is a good idea!
Clever! I’m glad you use Oscar for the “O”. I love that scent, and it has such a pretty bottle.
Oh yes I love the bottle too. That is what I remember from my mother’s dressing table, rather than remembering what the perfume smelled like back then – I have a very small, recent bottle, which I am very glad to have.
I love your word game! I love word games of all kinds but never thought of a perfume word game before. Very creative!
It was fun! I might try to spell something else the next time I find myself wide awake 😀
Clever game😃 and wishing you good sleep tonight, sometimes it’s easier to sleep at the weekend – more relaxed I guess.
Thank you Aurora! Yes I find that too – weekends are much better than weeknights. Hope you have a restful weekend too.
SOTD is Jo Loves Mango Thai Lime. Smells just like you’d imagine. I had to go all the way to London to get this bottle! I’d tried it thanks to a lovely swapper, and wanted a FB, so I was thrilled when Jo Loves finally opened their US operations. Imagine my disappointment when I found that this was their only scent they didn’t sell in the US (no idea why). Six months later I was in London so I went to their store and *finally* got my bottle.
The story of my wandering pergola continues. Yesterday FedEx showed up at my house, only to discover that my package was not on the truck. Now they claim it will arrive today. We’ll see…
Please report on the perfume. As my granny would say, it sounds like a meal in itself!
Mango, lime — honestly this should be a sorbet.
That is one special bottle of scent. Hope the pergola finally arrives. Sounds like you’ll need to anchor that wanderer down extra well.
Your pergola saga has me riveted!
Same here!
I have a mango lime hand lotion from Salt Spring Soap Works, great note combo!
In Fedex news, I received box 2 of 2 from 4160 Tuesdays, box 1 is theoretically still in customs at the Memphis hub. Hoping we both get our boxes soon!
I was up early. Husband now testing positive for COVID, so I have two invalids in the house. I suspect they will spend the day upstairs watching “footy” and drinking “therapeutic” amounts of Pepsi. We have tix for Sat night at our local soccer club, Oakland Roots. But given the level of infection in the house, I’ll likely be positive by then as well.
Anyhoo, I wish I could be wearing Vilhelm’s Mango Skin for the CP, but I don’t have any. Instead, I am going rogue in TF’s Bitter Peach.
Are there “therapeutic” amounts of Pepsi? lol, I have a stomach ache just thinking about it. Here’s hoping you continue to stay negative.🤞
Healing thoughts again!
I actually considered TF Bitter Peach for today thinking that peach and mango are cousins. Anyway, I didn’t.
Any time my husband and I are tempted to eat something that isn’t strictly good for us, we declare that it has medicinal properties. (“I know I shouldn’t have ice cream, but I stubbed my toe and it’s well known that ice cream has medicinal properties.”) I am completely on board with your husband’s therapeutic Pepsi.
Hope your patients are better soon. Pepsi was a staple when I was growing up. Does anyone remember the Pepsi bottle cap liners that had playing cards on them? It was a contest to collect “winning hands” which I think was based on poker. The soft plastic cap liners could be peeled off and they would stick to the refrigerator. LOL, I can still see all those little round liners arranged in hopeful rows.
From the old glass bottles right?
Yes; this was the Before-Plastic time.
COVID husband twins. This is not the coolest club.
Ugh!
sending you and your family healthy healing wishes. I managed to avoid covid when my daughter had it, tho she is an extreme introvert who isolated like it was her favorite sport.
Hope you manage to avoid Covid and have a happy weekend.
Sorry about the Covid, hope it’s just mild cases for all. After we both got it despite all precautions taken it just seems inevitable somehow. I just had an elderly friend test positive and she and her daughter hardly go anywhere. At least the current strains seem milder and the vaccines and boosters certainly help. Sending hugs your way. 🤗
Hugs! What a revoltin’ development.
So sorry about the sickness in your house. Sending vibes!!
Still have my fingers crossed that you’ll avoid it!!
I hope they both feel better soon!
No Coke. Pepsi!
So sorry about COVID in your household!
Like many others, I’m in Un Jardin sur le Nil, which I got in the last split meet. I will probably end up with a FB of this at some point — just such a nice summer perfume.
Last day of single parenting. I won’t be sad to give up the drive across town to get the kid to camp (which is next to where my spouse works, not me). I suspect that after this year, we’re coming to the end of day camps, as there don’t seem to be many for teens. The tween is starting to complain about being in camps that mostly have kids younger than her.
Twins!🙌 It really is a great summer perfume.
Will your tween be interested in overnight camps? My kids live for camp, they just love it.
Yes! And her sleepaway camp finally resumed this year after a 2-year hiatus. She’s really looking forward to it. That one will continue through her teens — they offer week-long kayaking camps and sailing camps for older kids, plus leadership camps that allow teens to prep to be counsellors. (They kayak or sail up the coast for a week; I want to do these camps!) She’s said she wants to become a counsellor, which would be right up her ally.
It’s more the day camps that end, which is a shame. For example, she loves climbing, but the climbing gym doesn’t offer camps for kids over 12. (We got her in just under the wire this year, since she turns 13 later this year.)
I spent the summer at a horseback riding camp in the Poconos when I was 13. I would have continued to go every summer into my 80’s if I could. Still have the best memories of that summer! And though the name has changed, it’s still in operation giving girls who love horses the summer of a lifetime! 🐴
Deva, have you ever read this wonderful book?
The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls Kindle Edition
by Anton DiSclafani (Author) Format: Kindle Edition
I haven’t, but just added to my kindle app! Thanks for the rec, it sounds good!
That would have been amazing — I love horses!
It was a fabulous experience and I learned a lot about horses and people. Like one young girl I’ll never forget. She had severe RA and I remember watching her walk to the barns (we had to do our own grooming and stall cleaning) in the early morning so stiff and barely able to move. I still think of her often because I admired her fortitude and determination. I know horses and riding were the only things that got her out of bed. 🐴❤️
I’m joining others in Sur Le Nil.
It’s Friday, and my first official day of vacation!🎉 Off work now til august 1. Woo hoo! I kicked it off by getting up early and heading downtown for a chai on the capitol square. It’s a perfect morning here. I saw a unicyclist on his way to…work? Tonight I’m meeting some old colleagues for happy hour at the terrace along the lake. It’s close enough that I can bike.
I have no real “big” plans for the rest of the week, just lots of little plans. lol. I’m taking madtownteen up north to camp on Sunday and then I’ll spend a few nights with my parents. Then back home for a midweek Psychedelic Furs concert, then we have few nights at an Airbnb steps from the college campus where I met my husband. Plans for music in the park, an art fair, good food, and walks along the river. All in all it should be a good week!🌞😎
Enjoy every minute 🎉🎉
Thanks ringthing! I will!😁
That sounds like a wonderful week!
I hope it will be! It’s kind of a modified “staycation.”
Happy beginning of vacation! Isn’t it one of the greatest feelings of all?
Thanks! It is.☺️
Hurray for vacay! Enjoy!
Thank you! I will.😁
What a wonderful no-big-plans vacation. Enjoy!!
Thanks!
That sounds super fun. Have a great week!
I hope it will be! Thanks!
Have fun!
Thanks pl67!
Sounds like a wonderful week of fun! Enjoy!
I hope so! I’ve been looking forward to it for awhile, thanks!
Sounds like a great vacation!
Enjoy 🌞
Thanks lillyjo! Looks like it’ll be good weather too!😎🤞🌞
Psychedelic Furs! I had no idea they were still together!
Sounds like a wonderful, low-key vacation — enjoy!
Enjoy your week! Sounds like a good mix of fun stuff and relaxation.
Have fun on your sorta, kinda staycation!
Have fun, sounds great!
Commando but have wanted Sur Le Nil for a while but never got around to it lol. I tried some spiced dried mango this week though it was delish:) Another hot one..111. Summers here..nobody does much except stay inside buildings with ac full blast.
Wow that is hot. Was very hot here yesterday but after a major storm with high winds & hail, at least the humidity broke.
Unlike others, I will not be spritzing Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I only have a sample, and I don’t want to waste it with my blunted sense of smell. It is too nice to waste like that. But..I will get CP points because I’ll be showering with the soap. Courtesy of a friend who gifted me a box of 3 Hermes Jardin soaps.
Scratchy throat is gone, and we’re back to just the runny nose. And a bit of a loose cough…minor. Worst part is the skin cracks in and around my nose. Vaseline is not helping. Neither is this other stuff with menthol. So irritating.
We had plans with others for my husband’s birthday tomorrow which are now cancelled because of my plague. It’s fine. We will watch one of his obscure, challenging movies together. And I’ll still bake his spice cake. More for us!
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better – hope your nose is comfy soon! Your spice cake sounds delicious.
mmmm, spice cake is wonderful. All the spices will surely help you heal and feel better. 😉
Sorry your plans got spoiled, but hope you keep feeling better and Happy Birthday to hubby! 🎂
I haven’t had a spice cake in ages. Sounds delicious!
Here’s hoping that you both continue a quick recovery.
Your cake sounds yummy, glad to hear your symptoms are not too bad.
My husband’s birthday is tomorrow too! And this year, I rudely left town altogether, so I will owe him a celebration when I get back next week.
Hope he loves the spice cake, and hope you are back to normal soon.
Happy birthday to your husband! I’m working in am so he can watch the Tour in peace.
🙂
No mango in these parts. Going to have to seek out something similarly fruity/refreshing for another hot day.
Robin, found a vacation beverage you & your husband might enjoy (just to say you tried it):
https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2022/07/21/velveeta-cheese-martini-veltini/
🤣🤣🤣
HA, someone mentioned that in the poll this week. My favorite line from that article: “Granted, it could be worse.”
Happy Summer Friday!
In good company today wearing Jardin Sur Le Nil from a cute little bottle given to me by a generous NSTer in a recent swap.
On another note, PSA that my local perfume shop Essenza is selling their Diptyque EDPs and EDTs at a 20% discount because Diptyque decided to pull out of small perfume shops and only sell at larger department stores (boo hiss). No affiliation other than I visit a lot and think they are wonderful.
They don’t have everything in stock but they still have a lot of the scents. They’re not set up for online ordering per se, but you can email them or call to make a transaction at https://essenza-inc.com/
I love Essenza! Hmm…now wondering if I can trouble my sister to go there and check out the Diptyque. (Boo, Diptyque, for going the mainstream, boring route.)
Definitely worth the trouble 🙂
Wow, did not know Diptyque was doing that. Odd timing given how poorly department stores are doing (???)
It does seem strange. I just watched Persolaise review Diptyque’s new Harrod exclusive, Opsis and he was surprised they were moving in the “exclusive” direction but thought that it might be part of the current marketing strategy for department stores and perfumer houses to try to offset online sales.
Ah, well that makes sense I guess.
For the CP, I’m copy-catting pyramus in Chopard Casmir. I was not aware of any scents I own with a mango note, and the ones I thought of turned out not to have it. Casmir has slowly grown on me, but so far has not given me a wow moment. I don’t like to give up when some of my favorite reviewers love it so much. I even have both the Coty and the Lancaster versions 🙂
I think you really have to be attuned to that “vat of sultry tropical fruit salad with vanilla crême” vibe, because it is a huge, heavy scent. Beautifully constructed, but *so so much*. If they had hired Olivia Giacobetti or Jean-Claude Ellena to do an eau légère it would have been a relief. I might actually own a bottle.
ha! so true, I would buy a JCE version of Casmir. 🙂
A Casmir Eau Legere sounds very intriguing!
I’ll be joining the CP crowd in Un Jardin Sur le Nil! I spent less than an hour this morning doing some overdue gardening, and I am DRENCHED in sweat. So I plan to drench myself and my hair in the shower, and then drench myself in UJSLN. It is actually one of the two scents that sent me down the fragrance rabbit hole several years ago, the other being Diorissimo. UJSLN is to blame because I read “The Perfect Scent” by Chandler Burr, which tells the story of its creation, so of course I had to buy it, and here we are. Diorissimo is to blame because I set off around the same time to renew my acquaintance with it (I wore it often in the 1980s and 90s), and found to my horror that it had changed. So I embarked on a “muguet marathon” to try to find a suitable replacement and again, here we are.
Have a great weekend and stay cool, everyone!
Did you find a suitable replacement?
I intend to stay cool because I melt in the heat. I can’t wait for autumn!
Sadly, there’s no real replacement for vintage Diorissimo, but I do have some gorgeous lily of the valley scents. Guerlain’s Muguet 2016 is lovely, as is there Aqua Allegoria Lilia Bella. I also adore Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Decou-Vert. VC&A’s Muguet Blanc is beautiful, and so is Hermés’ Muguet Porcelaine. I have more but those are the ones that come to mind!
The Perfect Scent if perfectly addicting reading. 🙂 Made me buy more than one bottle.
The struggle is real! Luca Turin’s books have also been dangerous for me and my budget.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
In my dreams, this has 🥭 🤣. Do I get points? Sure!
I may have mentioned here but maybe not – I am allergic to mango. It’s the skin that has a sap similar to poison ivy. So what is a girl to do if she likes mangos, which I do? I eat the dried mangoes (yummy) and occasionally pickled unripe mango although I can’t remember the last time I had it.
Chanel dreams allow for every possibility! You smel wonderful.
Mango and pineapple make my mouth feel funny if I eat more than a few bites. The dried ones are ok tho.
I don’t have that with mangos, but I think I know just what you mean about fresh pineapple. Unless it is slightly overripe, it deadens my tastebuds and also gives that funny feeling.
Thanks! I don’t like fresh pineapple because I can feel it burning through my esophagus (eek); canned ones are fine.
My mom has the same allergy. Hers is mild enough that, so long as she is careful not to eat any skin, she can eat the pulp. She has a whole process for cutting them where she sanitizes the knife between each cut. I think they end up tasting to her better because she has to work for it. 🙂
That’s a lot of work but very well worth it.
Do you have problems eating cashews as well? I have heard that people who are allergic to mangos can also be allergic to cashew nuts.
No issues with cashews and no big loss either because I don’t like cashews anyway.
Thanks to the perfume stars on this blog, namely Pyramus above, I’m wearing Casmir! Who’d a thunk this had Mango? Being too lazy to look up all my perfumes in search of a mango note, I depend on other NST folk to help me toe the CP line. So, big thanks to Pyramus! Happy FriYAY y’all! 😀
And a big thanks to the generous NSTer who sent me this Casmir decant! Where would I be without all the perfume people here? Many thanks to you know who! 🤗
Have noticed doing this myself for many a previous CP. I want to come up with a nifty saying like, “Monkey see, monkey spritz”, but haven’t yet done so.
I resemble that remark.
ha! I call it “shamelessly copying” when I follow someone’s lead perfuse-wise.
Despite the grey, windy day, I am wearing the very summery Biehl PC01. Did someone recently mention that they wouldn’t mind getting a bit of this? If said someone is in Canada I’d be happy to make a decant and pop it in the mail.
It wasn’t me, but that is so nice 🙂
I am twins with PL67 in Bombay Bling this morning. I have Casmir (vintage parfum) but can’t bring myself to wear it in summer. It’s too, too much for me when temps get above about 50F. Something is the matter with the A/C, wouldn’t you know, just as we are heading into a week of 100F temps. I dug the fan out of the closet and made an appointment for A/C service. Soonest was 8/8 *sigh*.
I hope your AC gets fixed very soon!!!
2nd that — good luck foxbins!
Twins! We smell wonderful!
No CP for me today. I’m smelling like a spicy pumpkin, which is only related to mangoes in color. I’ve layered Like This with Costes, a combo I heard mentioned on someone’s Instagram. It works for me!
Oh, that does sound an interesting mix!
Happy Friday! Wearing Mango Skin from a sample. Wore once before and liked but did not love it.
I have a bunch of work to do today and am getting properly coffee’d up to achieve said tasks.☕️
Twins!
Hope you got it all done She-ra!
No mango perfumes for me, so I chose DedCool’s Taunt. It’s comforting and wears close to the skin.
My husband came back from a conference last night with a sore throat and, as you may be able to guess, brought home COVID as a souvenir. It’s going to be pretty quiet around here for the next week. Thank goodness I have lots of books!
Sending you the same good wishes I sent to Oakland Fresca above, that it’s just a mild case and although disruptive to our lives and plans passes quickly. 🤗
Oh BOO! That stinks.
Ugh to covid, hope it passes quickly.
That’s a pretty stinky souvenir!!
I hope he feels better soon and you stay healthy!
Oh dear. Eventually we will have to do a “raise your hand if you have not yet had covid poll” and see if there is anyone left.
I couldn’t find my decant of Un Jardin Sur le Nil, so I spritzed on some She Was An Anomaly, instead. That turned out to be too powdery (and not very anomalous, I might add), so I layered some Casmir on top (thanks for the recommendation, pyramus!). The combo works surprisingly well, so I smell good and am CP compliant.
Perfect!
You all smell great in Un Jardin sur le Nil 🥭 I think I’ll wear it tomorrow!
But today I’m in Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore, one of my most worn perfumes this summer.
So happy it’s Friday! Wishing you a lovely weekend 💞
That Eau de Neroli Dore is a wonderful pick for summer! Lucky you, having a bottle.
No mango note in these parts. Wearing Phi Rose de Kandahar today.
You smell fabulous!
Yep.
🥭This was a great prompt 🥭- inspired me to dig out the venerable bottle L’Artisan L’Eau des Merveilleuses, which I haven’t even spritzed in several years. Still smells lovely. Had to use a light hand, because vanilla in this heat not so ideal. (My other option would have been Un Jardin sur le Nil, of course and better suited to the weather.)
House twins today!
🥂
Wow, that’s an oldie—never got to smell it!
It is very pretty—dense mango vanilla with something that gives it a slightly sharp edge—and has aged remarkably well. I bought it in 1999 or thereabouts and have been hoarding the last bit of the bottle because once it’s gone that’s it – impossible to find, I’ve looked.
Thanks for the description, and enjoy your last bits!
For the first time for ages the stars are shining brightly, visible from my garden . It’s still cold but at least there will be sunshine in a few more hours. I am sipping from a mug of T2 Mangoes and Cream loose tea, a nice mango and coconut which I think would be nice as an iced tea. Wearing Moonlight Patchouli .
You smell lovely!
That tea sounds wonderful.
sotd = Luci ed Ombre
I have my mini of UJSLN at hand, but today the heart wants what the heart wants. Perhaps tomorrow!
At the beach this week for the annual family retreat, and I brought only samples, no FBs this year. I’ve worn l’air du desert marocain the past three days. Somehow it makes a good counterpoint to the smell of the ocean.
Have a fabulously fragrant Friday, NST friends!
Ooooooooooooh, I bet that LAdDM would smell fantastic near a beach!
Hope the family is having a great time!
Joining the majority in Sur Le Nil, and liking it much better than my initial testing. It’s from the adorable mini that came as part of a set of Jardins, and it’s a dabber. I will transfer it to a sprayer at some point and give it a more thorough outing soon.
Am exhausted but happy — finally got the behemoth, nonfunctional wine-reactor out of the back room yesterday, and spent this morning assembling an IKEA piece that I’m calling a gardening bench. It has a seat with a flip-up top with storage below, and a tall back with hooks and a rail for things like a hat and sunglasses case to hang from. I have to say that I’m impressed with how well it came together; no missing parts, no confusion-inducing extra parts, all pilot holes in the right places, instructions reasonably clear. Success!
That was supposed to be “wine-erator” — autocorrect strikes again.
Yay for a successful Ikea project!
For today’s cp I’ve mixed mango with clementine, orange, lime, nectarine and raspberry (along with just a few floral notes) to make a delicious tropical fruit cocktail fragrance: YR Green Summer. After YR debuted Naturelle, they came out with an annual summer floral-fruity release in the same vein, that were much better IMO than the current summer releases. Green Summer is my favorite of these; the mango in this is nicely tart and despite the other fruity notes remains the dominant one throughout. Lasts a long time on me and just feels right with the colors and clothes I wear in summer. The bottle shapes and colors of these previous releases are also much more appealing than the current releases; Green Summer has a softly curving bottle that shades from peach to green and perfectly suits the scent. Perfect for a fun Friday!
Hot and sticky here too like much of the country; swimming, outdoor concerts and keeping the garden watered have been on this week’s agenda. Will probably be dodging raindrops this weekend for one of our favorite local events, our local pond and garden walk. We don’t have a pond (yet) but last summer (since we gave up almost all traveling/vacations during the pandemic) we treated ourselves and had a small waterfall installed in the corner of our yard just outside the deck to our bedroom. We like to sit on the deck in the early morning, birdwatch, and enjoy the soothing sounds of the falling water. The robins especially love it, too, and seem to regard it as their private bathing facility!
Happy weekend to all! 🍹
Your SOTD sounds like it could be the basis for a great cocktail!
Enjoying the cooler temps today, Nice breeze and 20C.
I wore Floris Chypress which always cheers me up and tonight I am in vintage Molinard Nirmala and enjoying its clear mango note although there is far more going on in that complex perfume.
Sounds like your current temps are much more in line with typical summer weather there.
Oh yes, a typical British summer would have lots of days like today, my hope is that we will see some rain soon, there’s much less of that too.
Crossing my fingers and sending rainy vibes your way! ☔☔☔
Is Nirmala the one that supposedly inspired Angel?
I’m wearing a Mango Pineapple perfume oil from a long defunct shop in Portland that sold Body Time perfume oils and body products you could have scented with them I layered it with BF Unsettled which works well.
I have to mention my other favorite Mango scented products are from The Body Shop, but not wearing them today.
I liked Body Time, better than The Body Shop to be honest. They did great custom lotions too.
Happy Friday, All!
Today several sample sets arrived, and I can kiss that Tocca mess goodbye (I’ll try to give it away on FB).
Sooooo…
Right now I’m wearing Baccarat Rouge 540, and I am sooooo happy! I LOVE this!
These are the discovery sets that arrived. I have no idea if any smell like mango.
If you would be so kind, please tell me what you would try next. I am needy today.
1. MFK: Aqua Universalis, Aqua Celestia, Aqua Vitae, Amyris, Fluidity, and Oud.
2. Ormonde Jayne: Frangipani, Champaca, Ta’if, Ambre Royal, Tolu, Ormonde Woman, and Ormand Man
3. Eris: Belle de Jour, Night Flower, Ma Bête, Mx., Mxxx., Green Spell, and Scorpio Rising.
4. Rogue (looks like the whole shebang): 15 samples – throw a dart.
5. Memo: Inlé, Sintra, French Leather, Marfa, Lalibela, Irish Leather, and African Leather.
I smell damn good, y’all!
Thinking of my locale’s hot and steamy weather, I’d try either the OJ Frangipani or the Memo Lalibela. You’ve got a lot to choose from for sure!
That’s a lot of discovery! I’d start with Ormond Jayne.
Me, too!
Thanks so much for helping me.
In my defense, I have not owned any perfume for about 15+ years (I’m looking at *you*, Bvlgari), and I was under the impression (thanks, Mom), that once you found a ::cough:: signature scent, you’re done.
How silly!
I’ve been a bit enthusiastic since finding this blog, but I tell myself that I’m only buying these sets so I can trade. Yup!
I would like to suggest to hold on to some samples to re-try in the cooler weather.
I haven’t tried most of what you are sampling! So maybe I would suggest something from Memo or Eris.
Nothing wrong with having a signature scent, if that’s your jam. I personally have too much fun trying things to do that. But “desert island scents” are another thing entirely!
If it suits you please try Mxxx and report back? I’d love to know how it leans – spicy, ambery, both? 😉
Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner!
I’m brand new to the nuance of scents, so I’ll read up on amber (not the resin, I think…), and let you know!
Thanks for this challenge! I promise my answers won’t be “awesome!” Or “ick!”.
Alright. This is the first time I’m trying to describe a fragrance. Angela’s review can be found here: https://nstperfume.com/2019/12/16/eris-parfums-mxxx-fragrance-review/
At first sniff, I definitely smell the peppercorn, a bit of mace, and a slight hint of ginger. I spent some time smelling my cooking spices to see if I could tease out various scents. Nope on the saffron, nope on the cacao, but I’m still not attuned to various scents.
That’s the end of the spicy notes. Next I smell sandalwood, patchouli, and vanilla starts to peek out. It smells musky-and slightly sweet but not cavity-inducing sweet. The vanilla seems to take the edge off what I assume are the animal musks. It never smelled like a walk in the woods or wet leaves to me, but it reminded me of a shop my aunts used to own – lots of carved wood from Africa. Nothing spicy like garam masala or cloves. Definitely carved wood of various types and what I’m assuming is ambergris. Throughout there’s a hint of vanilla that becomes slightly stronger after about 45 minutes but not overpowering. I really like the lingering vanilla.
I smell like a sexy beast!
It’s not on my buy list but maybe on my birthday list.
Does any of this make sense? I’m learning. 🙂
And now I think I smell nutmeg. It’s very nice.
Great job on describing!
Thanks, hajusuuri! 🫶🏼
Both for me and surprisingly tame.
❤️ to you all 😊
Was planning a spritz of Jardin Sur le Nil, but I think I will dig out my sample of Bombay Bling instead in honor of my daughter-in-law from Bombay (she never calls it Mumbai).
I am taking it easy and drinking tea – got my second Moderna booster yesterday and feeling achy and yucky.. But I need to get up soon to finish putting the house back together from carpet installation.
Congrats on getting booster #2!
Good for you on getting boosted again!
Best wishes to all those people with Covid in their homes, and hoping for mild doses for everyone.
I’m perfume-free as yet, as I want to try more of the Xerjoff perfumes that have arrived at my local perfumery. They are ridiculously expensive, so I won’t be making any purchases, but I still want to sniff them. So far, Lira was so sweet that my teeth hurt and a couple of others were just OK, nothing unpleasant, but nothing special either.
I saw that the Amouage attars were $830 for 12ml. I wonder how popular they are. Hope you have some sun today.
I am quite unenthusiastic about the Xerjoff line as well. Nothing I really enjoy, other than Lira, because I love sweet. 🙂
I don’t love any Xerjoffs, except for Oesel. Angela did a review of it few years ago. I have been contemplating a bottle for a long time. But those prices… and I’d probably only use very little of it.
Joining the crowds in Jardin Sur Le Nil–I am down to the dregs on this bottle–one of the very few that I will finish up in this lifetime. Not enjoying the heat of this week, or what’s projected for the weekend, but am glad to be cool in my air conditioned home. Also glad that my mobility issues with my hip seem to be improving–don’t know if it’s the physical therapy and/or the acupuncture, but whatever, I am feeling much better…..Yeah!
Have a great weekend everyone–stay cool (or warm, depending on your part of the globe!)
Will you get another bottle of Sur le Nil? And whoo hoo for improvement with your hip!!
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Yay, so glad your hip is improving!
The CP nudge me to try the sample of Mango Skin that I got as a freebie recently. I definitely get a fruit skin aspect rather than just juicy pulp. It is sort of a fuzziness, like a peach skin, but definitely mango. More than anything I’m getting a Fruity Pebbles vibe, with a cereal grain note coming through rather strongly. It is as advertised, but not my bag.
Tea today is Earl Grey Creme. The kitty has been steadily improving from her upper respiratory infection, and decided to announce it this morning by insistently begging for pets at 4am. Mr. Vee (who is incapable of saying no to her) got up to play with her. But even though I got to go back to sleep, it must have messed up my REM cycle because I woke up hours later more tired than I was at 4am! Luckily I have the weekend to reset. Happy Friyay all!
Your furry little overlord is making her recovery known! But I am happy to hear that she is making progress.
Funny enough, I didn’t wear Sur le Nil at all this week. I’m not sure exactly where my decant is and I more easily found a few other mango perfumes. Today is Olympic Orchids Tropic of Capricorn, yesterday was Bombay Bling, and Wed was Biehl PC01.
Yesterday, I had to speak virtually in front of the whole company at our monthly meeting. It was only for a few minutes, but I haven’t felt nervous like that in a long time. I could hear my voice shake slightly unless I kept a certain cadence. Public speaking is a huge fear of mine, so I’m glad I did it and got positive feedback, but I never want to do it again!
Congratulations on doing well in your corporate speech! Those are difficult!
Thank you!
Good job on the public speaking!
Thanks!
Kudos on your successful presentation!
When I hear my voice quivering, my internal monologue starts full-bore: “Did anyone notice? Will it stop? Is it getting worse because I’m thinking about it?”
My hat’s off to you for devising a way to keep your cool and get it done!
Someone once told me that when I’m making a presentation, I’m the expert because I put in the work and am imparting my research. Yet and still, I’d like to crawl under the table sometimes.
Where’s my invisibility cloak?!
So proud of you!
Aww, thank you! My internal monologue defintely started up, and I had to quickly suppress it and force myself to just focus on continuing to read the words. I’d practiced a bunch beforehand so that was helpful too in having familiar words already in my mouth.
That’s a good tip on remembering you’re the expert. I use that a lot when I’m doing small group trainings or talks. Yesterday’s topic wasn’t something I was entirely an expert on, but I still knew more than the audience at least!
That’s cuz you’re a Bad B! Go on with your bad self! 😎
Good for you, and if you have to do it again, it will probably be much easier! I also fear public speaking (more than anything) and I need to do it now and then in my job. I almost want to shy away from it, but that avoidance means that when it is eventually unavoidable, it becomes ten times worse. I’ll never lose the fear, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
I’m hot and sweaty today, but that’s due to the weather. It is a lot less humid than yesterday was, so I’ll take it. Feeling much more like myself today, huzzah!
SOTD = L’Artisan Timbuktu. So happy I grabbed a 50mL bottle of this when I did. Getting a hint of fruit in this today, but mostly green and incense on me, as usual.
I need to wear Timbuktu again, I have no memory of any mango note.
What I notice in really hot & humid weather is faint, and not obviously mango. But it is fruit.
Glad you are feeling better today Jalapeno!
Thanks lillyjo! I think maybe Robin was onto something with her reply last night. Even though I was indoors in the A/C, the weather could have been messing with my insides.
I wore Mugler Angel eau crosiere 2019 for the cp today. It lists a mango note.
My boss has been on vacation this week and I can’t wait for him to get back. The mini-managers are starting to get on my nerves.
Ha! I hear that! My boss is about to be gone for a month. I expect shenanigans will ensue.
I hope my boss relaxed because he’s coming back to alot of work!
That’s what he gets for trying to escape!
“And I will call him Mini Me!”
Sorry, but I couldn’t resist!
👍🤣
I seem to be the only one in Manguier Metisse. Since mangos were on my mind this week, I tried a recipe for Mango Ginger Tofu that was really good. Went to an art festival last weekend and am going to another this weekend. I bought a piece last week and will probably buy one tomorrow. Picked up a couple of pieces that had been out for framing and then everything will get hung on Tues. I love having so much wall space
Mango Ginger Tofu sounds wonderful…and how nice it will be to have everything hung in your new place !
The recipe is from Vegan With A Vengenance
Hmm no mango scent in my collection, but Dusita la Douceur de Siam has a tropical flower fruity vibe and I haven’t worn it in a long time, so I put some on.
This weekend I am testing Sana Jardin perfumes and I’m really blown away. So natural smelling and the florals are stunning! Jaipur Chant may be the nicest wearable tuberose I’ve ever smelt.
