Happy Memorial Day weekend! On Monday, we'll observe proper Memorial Day, but for today, we're celebrating the holiday's other meaning, as the unofficial first weekend of summer. (In olden times, you could only wear white shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day.) Our community project for today: wear something that fits your plans for Summer 2022! (If it's winter where you are, adjust accordingly.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Part 5 of my summer plans: gadabout generally, as much as is possible. So appropriately enough, it's a travel day for me — we're taking a long weekend trip to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. (Quite possibly, I will fall behind on comments but I'll catch up on Tuesday.) I'm in a bit of Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil Perfumed Body Lotion. A summer of gadding about in Un Jardin Sur Le Nil would be just fine with me. Update: yes, I'm in the body lotion but our flight just got canceled. So I'll be spending today trying to reschedule our trip.
Reminder: on 6/3, for World Bicycle Day, wear something sporty (or just outdoorsy, or whatever you think fits).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top images via Mercedes Castillo NYC at Facebook. I don't think any of those sandals are still made, but you can find her latest models here.
So sorry about your travel woes Robin! Hope you get out soon.
I’m going for Embruns d’Ylang and dreaming of someday getting above 65F/15C.
I have actually never had this happen to me! So I guess I should consider myself lucky.
Good luck with getting some warm weather!
Good morning and TGIF!
Sotd is Terracotta Le Parfum.
I want to spend my summer near the beach, eating copious amounts of iced goods and enjoy the sun (with SPF of course. Skin cancer is no laughing matter! Nor is photoaging)
Boo to canceled flight Robin. Hope rescheduling goes well.
Currently drinking pink lemonade.
You smell perfect for beach + iced goods + sun.
And thank you!
You smell great! I really love that one, it’s a perfect beachy perfume to my nose,
Classy summer-y SOTD!
I know for a fact that I will be buying palisade peaches from the farmers market this summer so I’m in Gardenia Batik for its peach note
🍑🍑🍑
Love those Palisade peaches. I got a whole box a few times when the high school band was selling them as a fundraiser. We had lots of different peach dishes that week. They work in so many things!
Palisade peaches were one happy spot in a sad summer last year.
Cancelled?! Not re-routed or nuthin’?? Boo! I hope you can re-do easily, with gadabout time left over. I am currently in a melange of scents after a morning of identifying 5 mystery travel sprays I left unlabeled after decanting because: “oh I won’t forget what that is!” Humble pie has been consumed and I have one left to ponder. I plan to enjoy peaches, melons, roses, and almonds this summer, so for the CP Champs Elysees parfum. It was one of the mystery decants. With its lasting power I had my choice made for me! 🙂
They offered us a different flight that did not work, and it was a short weekend trip already. So we are looking to reschedule later in June.
Congrats on identifying 4 out of 5, even that is amazing!!
Glad it’s not put off too long!
🙂
Nice detective work on those unlabeled scents!
Sheepishly, I admit one of them was Coco Mademoiselle edp Intense, which is so in your face distinctive. The only thing that confused me was that I ever decanted it from the original sprayer at all. I just sniffed and thought and looked at the juice, and it came to me. Two I got because I often decant to sprayers any vintage scents that I’ve bought in splash bottles. 🙂
That still leaves 3 mystery perfumes ID’ed. That ain’t too shabby. 🧐
We’ve been having summer weather in Texas for more than a month now, and I’m slightly tired of the aromatics and herbals that I’ve been wearing. So today is Balle de Match, not because I’m going to be playing tennis, but because it is a citrus scent. A summer favorite. Love, love, love Nicolai’s one ounce bottles.
Oh yum, you smell fantastic!!
Happy anniversary, Robin, but sorry about your trip. Hopefully June will be even better!
Wearing Zoologist Hummingbird today, as my summer plans always include lots of summer fruits. And this year I’m going to flea markets and estate sales and every place I’ve not been able to walk for the last three years. It’s cool and rainy today but supposed to warm into the 90s by Monday.
Thank you! It is not until early June but we were doing a trip early because we have to attend a wedding the weekend of our anniversary. Late instead of early is fine, but meanwhile we are all packed and have no food in the house, LOL…first world problems for sure!!
Flea markets and estate sales sounds so lovely, I used to do that all the time.
Yay for being able to walk again!!!
I am so grateful.
You smell so good! My bottle of Hummingbird is on its way and I am so excited!
Congratulations on a new bottle!
Flea Markets! Estate Sales! Here’s to your finding a box of vintage Guerlain Greats!!
Lol yes! Really, vintage perfume that’s anything other than Avon, which is mostly what I find around here.
Congratulations on getting back on your feet! Enjoy all your summer walking and strolling and ambling….
Thank you 🌸
Hooray for increased mobility and a summer of hunting!
Enjoy your walkabouts!
We are twins, Robin! Un jardin sur le Nil always fits my summer plans.
Hope you manage to reschedule your flight easily 🤞
We are having “easy Friday”, just 4 hours of work and I already finished. So now I am enjoying some quiet, coffee, chocolate biscuits, strawberries and my favorite perfume. I love summer 🥰
Hey twin! Wish we were coffee+chocolate biscuits+strawberries twins too, I’ll have to see what I can do about that!
Sounds like a perfect Friday!
What a wonderful start to the weekend!
Oooh, a perfect Friday afternoon!
How awful about your flight, Robin! I hope you can reschedule to your satisfaction.
I’m not a summer person at all, but I do have one summer mainstay which I’m wearing on this miserable, sodden day: Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, with that beachy tanning-lotion smell of ylang plus lots of carnation and vanilla, which I can never get enough of.
We are now going in late June, it was the best I could do. Weather will probably be better anyway. (And we are miserable sodden weather twins!)
You do smell wonderful!
Sodden over here in North Carolina too.
Sorry about your flight, Robin! I hope you get everything sorted.
Once I get moving this morning, I will be in Nicolaï L’eau à la Folie. It’s one of my summer perfumes, and in the summer I like to drink all things citrusy in my back patio / garden, where there are lots of green things around. I have great hope that I can start that early next week, when temperatures are supposed to be above 20C.
All sorted, thanks, and great perfume choice! Drinking citrusy things in the backyard is always good.
So sorry about the cancelled flight, Robin! I hope you manage to reschedule with as little stress as possible.
I am in Royal Muska.
On Wednseday, I made a short trip to Copenhagen and back to meet a lovely Instagram friend, Jasia. She very generously offered to share some scents with me, since I left Ukraine with just a few samples and began to run low. And now I have some old favorites (Yardley Lily of the Valley and Chanel Misia) and a lot of new stuff to try!
So far, I tried Un Coeur en Mai and Royal Muska. Un Coeur en Mai is a bright, juicy floral scent. I could not believe it has some notes I normally have problems with – blackcurrant and melon. I would probably never approach this scent because of them, but now I tried it and I like it. I cannot detect any individual notes – this is a ‘bouquet’ style fragrance for me.
Royal Muska is a straightforward musk. Somewhat animalic, but still definitely on the clean side of musks. Soft, cozy. The dry-down reminds me a little of Narciso Rodriguez EDP, but NP definitely has more floral and fruity notes, which I miss in Royal Muska.
I also visited Copenhagen’s botanic garden – a beautiful place. Especially recommended if you like rhododendrons. 🌸
I’m glad you got to do a meet-up. Enjoy your new scents!
Sounds like a wonderful trip, so happy for you!
Yay to your exploring the Scandinavian countries and meeting a perfume friend.
So nice to hear from you and that you are doing well. Sounds like a lovely visit to Copenhagen!
Oh my goodness, I love botanic gardens. I’m happy to hear you had such a nice week!
The botanic garden and perfumista meetup sound great! Thanks for the uplifting post Glannys.
Today’s weather is classically Portland In Early Summer — i.e. rainy but not terribly cold. I’m rather happy to see “normal” weather here after the disastrous summer we had last year (116 degree temps and one very large tree lost to that heat). So I’m, er, celebrating (?) in Rebecca Minkoff, a fluffy marshmallow of warmth, and drinking a large latte. It’s supposed to get warmer and sunnier mid-week and I’ll be out in the garden doing some planning and planting, with any luck at all. 🌱 🪴
So no drought for you this year?
Oh, they’re still warning about drought, of course. One good rain year can’t make up for so many years of deficit … plus, the rain concentrates mostly on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, so central and eastern Oregon are still (and always) very dry. Hopefully there is snow pack in the Siskiyou Mountains (southwestern Oregon) so we might avoid another horrific forest fire smoke season up here.
Good luck with the travel arrangements! In solidarity, I will wear my Un Jardin Sur Le Nil lotion today. It one of my all time faves. I keep trying lot’s of other perfumes but keep going back to SLN. It is my ride or die signature scent.
It is such a great lotion…in all truth I might like it better than the spray fragrance, although I do like that too.
You Shall Wear What You Decant, so SOTD is Prada Purple Rain. Not really with the CP, but then our weather isn’t either — foggy and 50 degrees out. I am not complaining, though, since the darker skies means my cat permitted me to sleep in a little! I am still working on getting back to normal life after my recent vacation. Someday, someday, I will be fully unpacked…
Robin, hope your travel plans get aligned again.
Update: I also decanted Guerlain Epices Exquises, so now I am wearing a DIY version of Iris Torrefie, lol
That sounds kind of nice…
😀 – I wrote that down, Pixel! As a huge fan of Iris Torrefie, a DYI flanker of sorts is very appealing.
I have the opposite issue with one of my cats. She wants to snuggle with me in bed in the morning, so getting up is tricky sometimes.
Your cat should have a chat with my cat. I’ll take snuggles over hanging off the curtains at 5:30 am.
It might have something to do with my cat being middle-aged. Her curtain-climbing days are done.
My cat is 13. He doesn’t know it, though.
Good plan to postpone a bit, Robin, but it’s always a let down when you’re all organized to go. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced canceled flights a few times, but eventually it all worked out.
I’m in a Di Ser Mizu sample, kind of an airy, peppery lemon. Definitely works for our plans this weekend to camp on Lopez Island (one of the San Juan Islands in the PNW)–no flights needed fortunately, but it does involve a ferry ride which can sometimes be canceled. Crossing my fingers that it won’t be this time!
I’m looking forward to a summer of outdoor fun–kayaking, camping, hiking, drinking beer with friends at the local breweries, I want to do it all.
Hope you will get all your summer fun wishes, springpansy! And crossing my fingers too…hope the ferry goes on schedule.
In Commodity Vetiver thanks to a generous NSTer.
Warm and very humid day, with some rain arriving later today.
I am in some kind of forced staycation after my doggie Yei was discharged from the hospital yesterday. I decided to stay home for the rest of the week to mainly take care of him and also continue with the deep cleaning and organization of so much stuff at home. Yei is trying to recover, but because of his age that becomes tougher as days pass. God will provide.
On my third cup of coffee and a couple of falafels with guacamole.
Happy Friday, everyone! ☕️
Robin, I am so sorry about your cancelled trip. I hope you can reschedule it without any issues.
🤗🤗 and good wishes for you and Yei!
Thank you, Laila! 🌹
All rescheduled! You keep focused on Yei.
Big vibes to you and Yei!
Thank you, Cazaubon! 🌻
Yei is lucky to have you care so much for his well-being and comfort. You are such a loving companion.
Thank you, Kanuka. I hope he shows a bit of improvement during the weekend.
Sending good wishes to Yei for his recovery.
Thank you, Aurora! 🌻
Best wishes to Yei! I’m sure he’s happy to have you home with him.
Thank you, Madtowngirl! I hope my staying home helps him to get better!
Really hoping for Yei to recover quickly!
Thank you, Ockeghem! 🌻
Glad you’re able to stay home with Yei. I hope he bounces back quickly.
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
I am glad to be home. I also needed to take a break from work.
Biggest hugs to you and Yei. I hope your time at home with him is restful and that your organization project moves ahead smoothly.
Thank you, Sistine. Looking forward to a very productive holiday weekend. Crossing fingers my energy levels keep up with my plans!
Sending you and Yei hugs as he recovers. I’m glad you can spend some time at home with him.
I haven’t tried your sotd, but I bet it’s great. Long ago, in the before-times, I got a sample of Commodity Orris at Sephora. It was really good!
Thank you, Gail!
Commodity Vetiver is a nice sweet, fruity scent. The vetiver note is not prominent. I get mostly berries and apples and it smells very masculine on me.
Super soupy weather for both of us today for sure!
Glad to hear that Yei is at home with you, and that you were able to take some time off to be there. Hugs to both of you!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🌻
Speedy recovery, Yei!
Thank you! 🐶
Sending good energy to your dog Yey!
Thank you, Gabriela! 🌹
Sorry about your flight cancelation, Robin! UGH! I had that last week coming home from a trip and I was desperate to just be home. Hope you get that rescheduled quickly and get off to wherever you’re going.
SOTD: Rose 31 lotion
Finally got my smell back! It got knocked out for 4 days due to you know what. What an odd experience to stick my head into my perfume draw and smell absolutely nothing!
Feeling better and happy to have my sniffer back (80% at least).
Cheers! and happy 3-day Memorial Weekend to those that celebrate!
Glad you are feeling better!
Glad you’re on the mend!
So glad to hear your sniffer is back in action!
Whoo hoo on the return of your sniffer!
Glad you’re feeling better and can smell again. I have been lucky not to lose mine.
Wow, I guess 4 days is not bad but I would have been alarmed…so glad you are already on the mend.
Ugh! to the canceled flight!
I’m wearing Dusita Cavatina, which smells more like spring to me than summer, but it suits the rainy spring weather we’re having today.
My only big summer plan is my annual trip to Augusta, GA to see my sister. My son and I will fly this year, and he is so excited. I’ve warned him that it’s not all that thrilling, but I hope a window seat will meet his expectations. That is, of course, if our flights don’t get canceled!
My fingers are crossed for your smooth travels. A window seat was absolute magic to me when I was a kid.
Fingers crossed! I loved to fly when I was little.
Happy Friyay!
SOTD!
Well,it’s late Autumn over here, and our big chill commences next week it seems…
Dreaming of Springtime in Aerin Iris Meadow.
Happy anniversary Robin and sorry about your cancelled plans.
This weekend will be spent cleaning my apartment, organising clothing and such to get ready for winter.
XO’s
Cleaning and organizing twins! Not fun, but it feels good when you see some progress done!
I’m OCD about cleaning and organizing,so it’s not much of a chore,really!
Good luck on your side!
XO’s
I will be doing the same! but in reverse: it’s time to bring out the summer clothes here.
Rub it in now,will you??Haha!
Enjoy enjoy!☀️☀️
I have a 3-day weekend and I am hoping to get cleaning done!
Stay warm and cozy!
Happy Friday J, and thank you! Good luck with the chores.
I borrowed my husband’s Acqua di Parma Colonia (the original). He rarely wears it, preferring his SMN classic Eau de Cologne and their orange blossom scent. I personally like Colonia best on him. So, maybe I’ll just wear it this summer.
Sorry about the delayed getaway Robin, but glad you can reschedule.
Off to work soon. Covering 1-7 since the market is open till 8, and it’s a busy weekend. It was busy yesterday so I imagine today will be pretty nuts.
I’m sure it will be busy all weekend! The forecast for the whole state looks great. I traveled south today, back home, and the traffic going north was pretty thick with lots of campers and boats.
Hey, but your husband does have good taste to have all 3 of those.
Ugh, sorry about the cancellation, Robin!
I’m in CSP Café Vanille and smelling fine. Hope everyone in the US has a great holiday weekend! I’m hoping I’ll still have my camp spot when I get back. Had to come into town for connectivity for work stuff…🙄
Oy! I hope anyone who plans to travel there is delayed until you have your spot back!
Oh man, I hope you got your spot!!!
Fingers crossed for your spot, Deva!
Oh no, I hope so too!
Our summer plans include traveling to North Carolina to see my stepson, wife and grandkids.
I just want to stop and smell the roses/flowers this year so wearing Fox in the Flowerbed.
What a great pairing!
👍👍 for smelling the roses!
Happy Friday
I am in Frangipani by Lili Bermuda 🇧🇲
There is not much evolution in this fragrance but it reminds me of Bermuda when I bought it there , and of summer. I don’t detect Patchouli in this one at all, just one BWF
Who needs patchouli when a perfume does not need it?
Happy Friday, all!
Sorry to hear about your flight cancellation, Robin. It must have been so mentally jarring to have your trip suddenly go poof! I hope the rescheduling goes much smoother.
I had a back injury this week, I don’t even know what to call it. Threw out my back, strained my back? I wasn’t doing much, barely bending when it suddenly seized up in great pain. I was nearly immobile for a few hours, but with much icing and rest, I gained mobility quite quickly. Now I’m mostly just sore when I try to bend over or get out of bed. It’s not been fun, but it’s been a lesson in slowing down. I’m enjoying reading Hamnet at a very leisurely pace. Beautiful writing, but I’m dreading the sadness that I think is coming in the plot!! Especially coupled with the news these days.
SOTD is not much tied to CP except that it’s something I’d wear in any season, Bois des Iles. Box of eels for me, anytime of year!
Sorry about your back pain. I am glad it is getting better now
Thank you, Kanuka!
Hope you fully recover soon!
Thank you, PL67! Sending you productive cleaning vibes, and a big hug for Yei.
Thank you, Tulipani! 🌻
Please take care and be gentle with that back. I did that once years ago and was amazed at how every little movement in other parts of my body seemed to affect my back when I hurt it. Sending a big get-well 🤗.
Ouch, I’ve thrown my back out. Glad you are feeling better. You smell great!
Ouch, tulipani. Rest that back!
Ouch. Please take it easy! I hope your back feels better soon.
Ouch, ouch, owie ouch! Back spasms like those are horrible! Hopefully your back relaxes soon.
Glad your back is doing better, and yes to Box of Eels!
So sorry about your back!
I loved Hamnet but whenever I’m reading anything sad I alternate with cozy-ish mysteries…
Sorry about your flight cancellation, Robin. I hope you have it resolved soon.
I’m wearing a combo of Yves Rocher Blackberry and My Green Summer, so I smell like a refreshing summer drink! MGS is lime-forward. I don’t mind reapplying throughout the day as these 2 could be in a project pan equivalent of getting through some make-up. Use it or lose it!
You smell good! I like both of those scents – especially the Blackberry – and will have to give their layering a try!
Thank you, Laila! It’s pretty good. And not too serious.
That sounds like a great combo.
Thank you sistine! It’s kind of fun, the way summer should be!
Now that we’ve returned from some overseas travel (Italy and Spain!), the rest of our summer will be spent going to family weddings and other family occasions. So in honor of the upcoming nuptials, I am wearing Hermes’ Muguet Porcelaine, which reminds me of my own wedding day: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2016/05/28/may-muguet-marathon-muguet-porcelaine/. Today’s weather suits it, too; it is bright and sunny without being too hot and humid (unlike the first part of the week).
Happy Memorial Day to all who mark it!
P.S. Rotten luck about the flight cancellation — I hope you’re able to reschedule in a reasonable way! Good luck!
“bright and sunny without being too hot and humid” sums up how I want my entire summer to be! Where do I get that? lol
How do I keep it??
Not a clue — but if you find out, please tell!
Envious of your perfect sounding weather!
Happy Memorial Weekend to everyone and sorry about your disrupted plans Robin. I was up at 2am to collect my son from a 21st birthday party and then up again at 5am for the dogs and I was thinking about what perfumes I wore when I was 21. I think I was mostly wearing Opium, Boucheron, Paloma Picasso, Coco (?) . Certainly, I had only a couple ( 3 or 4) and I kind of savoured them, and loved wearing them every day. I was living in cold flats, paying $27 a week rent and a full time student doing American Studies so perfume was my only luxury and far more ‘special’ than now when I have more choice and more cash. First big frosts of the year here and below zero temperatures and twinkly mornings. Wearing laudanum goodness in Couche du Diable.
Thanks spell check! Labdanum.
Laudanum goodness sounds like it could be a perfume, though, lol
I was thinking the same. Still, Opium!
You had fantastic taste at age 21, and still do!
Except my memory is wrong because I was 25 when Boucheron came out!
I loved your reminiscence!
Up at 2am, you are a great mom, Kanuka!
I wore Obsession when I was 21 and one of my roomies wore Poison and the other wore Paloma Picasso and Fahrenheit. Those were some great perfumes!
When I was 21 I wore Herba Fresca. And too much black eyeliner, Ruby Woo lipstick, and Doc Martens no matter what the occasion.
Honestly? The only things that have changed are the Herba Fresca and the Ruby Woo.
Wow, 2nding madtowngirl…you are a good mom! I’m not sure I’m capable of driving at 2 am anymore.
Robin, I am so sorry your plans were upended at the last minute, and also that you will have to brave the grocery store in the lead up to Memorial Day. Maybe just eat takeout for a few days.
Ugh summer. I am not a summer person, I am a spring and fall person. I like the first few weeks of summer, but then it gets hot and dry and I start longing for damp and cool. I’m wearing Camel, not for summer but to see if I like it enough to buy. I think not.
Luckily I gathered enough at the farmer market this afternoon to cover us for tonight 🙂
If it keeps getting hotter, eventually I will join you in being a summer and fall person!
Happy Memorial Day long weekend American friends, in the UK we are waiting for our special jubilee 4 day weekend next week.
Wearing two perfumes I intend to wear more this summer Y and Guerlain AA Lys Soleia.
I hope you have a great Jubilee weekend.
Thank you Sistine, all the celebration events seem very nice.
Thank you Aurora. For me, Memorial Day is always a somber event.
Enjoy your Jubilee!
I understand, it has a special significance for those who served and their relatives.
We got to be in England in 1977 during the Silver Jubilee year. We were in Yorkshire visiting family. I don’t recall a lot about it (I was 10) and pretty sure all the celebrations were done by the time we got there in July, but my mom still has several souvenir items from then.
Glad it means a childhood memory for you.
Robin, what a bummer to be all packed and ready to go and then Not! I hope your rescheduled plans for later in June means better weather and a better overall experience since you won’t be traveling on a holiday weekend.
In summer, I like to Keep It Simple & Outdoors as much as possible. Hoping to add to the usual almost-daily swimming and gardening this year with as much camping, outdoor concerts, and baseball games as possible, much of which was lost the past couple of years due to the pandemic and/or bad weather. My favorite summer outdoor scent for these activities, and my SOTD for today’s cp, is YR Naturelle – its lemon citrusy greenness a perfect complement to these activities. Although some compare it to Light Blue, I dislike Light Blue and love Naturelle, so to me they’re not the same. I like to layer Naturelle over BBW’s Country Chic products to add to that fresh outdoor feel.
Temps in the upper 50’s today, hard to believe it’s going to be 90 in a couple of days, but that’s what they say. Getting a start on our outdoor concert plan this weekend with one tomorrow and one on Sunday. One of our favorite duos, Wisconsin-based ‘Patchouli,’ is finally appearing nearby after a long absence. If you like folk/world music and Spanish guitar, I highly recommend checking them out (patchouli.net); lots of Midwest appearances this summer. Bruce writes the music, is a phenomenal guitarist and an artist as well; wife Julie writes the lyrics and her smile could light up the darkest room. I’m really looking forward to this!
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!
Camping, outdoor concerts and baseball games sounds like a great summer! I have not heard of ‘Patchouli’ I will have to check that website out!
Patchouli has many concerts in MN and WI this summer; hope you can catch one. I always feel peaceful and hopeful after seeing them; Julie absolutely radiates positive energy and vibes! They are located in WI at the far western border with MN right by the River.
I don’t like Light Blue either, so you have company. 😉
Sorry about your flight, Robin. Happy Anniversary!
I traveled opposite of the holiday traffic and just returned home today.
I’m in Neroli Outrenoir, which is both lovely and out of my price range. Luckily I got a free sample with my Shalimar purchase which should be enough for me to enjoy a few wears this summer.
The last few days have been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. My college daughter and I headed up to my parents house on Wednesday, then I dropped her off at summer camp/work on Thursday morning. I’m wondering if I’ll ever get to a point where I can hug her and say goodbye without tears. Doubtful, but I’ll keep trying. I spent another day with my parents, which was nice, but also distressing as we had serious discussions and tears (on my part) about the tentative sale of their home and plans for this next stage of life. They live in a location that I’ve referred to as “home” for 45 years, even though I haven’t lived with them for thirty plus years. I realize they are getting older, but I was not prepared for this, and I’m feeling quite untethered by the whole idea. Probably doesn’t help that it was gray and drizzly the entire time I was there. As my dad would say, this too shall pass.😞
This discussion is never easy. There were attempts made with my parents and I’ll admit that it was very difficult as mom pretty much wanted what was impossible.
What they want and what I *think* they should do are not in line, and I was not prepared for how emotional I was going to get. As an only child, I don’t have siblings to bounce ideas off of. Time will tell what will happen, but agree with you, it is not easy.
I’m with you. I got sniffly just walking through a playground near my house this morning. I was thinking about when my kid used to play there and was scared to climb over the top of the frog-shaped rope climbing thing (which is about 1.5m tall, tops). And now she’s off to high school.
And there are going to be…not conversations but serious dealing with stuff in my family soon, and I’m not ready to approach it. My grandma keeps trying to send me home with photo albums that she’s walked me through, and I can’t possibly keep up with all the people in them because they all lived long before I was alive. And she keeps trying to tell me which antique dish has been promised to which person, and I can’t keep it all straight.
That kind of stuff gets to me too, and some days more than others. I think not seeing my parents in 7 months, saying goodbye to my daughter, combined with gray, depressing weather made for the perfect storm for emotional unraveling. Today was sun and blue sky when I got up and I am feeling better about things.
So glad for the good weather to help you through!
Life is bittersweet and it’s hard to let go, I know. This, too, shall pass, and hopefully be replaced with feelings of pride and joy as you marvel at the incredible adult your daughter is becoming and witness how fortunate your parents are to begin the next stage of life’s journey together. They are all lucky to have someone as caring as you in their lives. 🤗🤗🤗
😓Thanks Laila!
I am an only child too and know the difficulty with those conversations. It took a lot to get them to make the decision. I tried to use my nursing knowledge to help in coaxing them a bit, but it is still hard. They finally made the decision and are gone now, but it was one of the hardest discussions I have ever had to do. Take care of you too.
Thanks Kris.☺️
It’s difficult to have that conversation with a parent about their moving on/out from an established household. Been there. “Untethered” is a good way to describe the feeling.
I don’t think my Mom ever got over me moving out to the East Coast from Colorado.
Untethered is definitely how it feels. I need time to wrap my head around it.
Take time for that, and for yourself, too.
Fingers crossed, I’m going to see my parents for the first time since 2019 when we meet in Halifax at the end of June. They’ve already told me how happy they are to be able to go over their wills and end of life directives with me. Me: -I just wanted to see you guys and eat some mussels.
I sure hope that your planned trip goes off!
I totally feel you. I cry all the time when I see that my children are growing up, I get so emotional. I have learnt to accept I am a crying person and my children also know it is a part of who I am (cancer people are very emotional).
As for parents getting older, that´s a tough one. You just wake up one day and realize they are old. So much more vulnerable. But yes, this too shall pass. There is a Brazilian poet that says: Tudo passa, passarinho, which means, Everything passes, little bird (but the words dont rhyme in English).
Cancelled flights – how frustrating!
A routine Saturday morning looms, with supermarket shopping first on the list. Meanwhile I’m drinking my breakfast coffee with last night’s Lyric still very strong on my clothes. It’s getting colder, but this morning is clear and sunny, the forecast is for a nice autumn day.
A routine Saturday morning is exactly what I’m planning tomorrow morning…hope yours was peaceful Gaynor!
Wearing Castelbajac Beautiful Day L’Eau Original today.
I have had a heavy heart this week and am offering hugs to anyone who may need them.😔
I am offering you hugs for your heavy heart.
Hugs back She-ra.😔
Sending hugs back to you with hope for brighter days ahead.
Hugs to you She-ra.
Hugs!
Hugs back!
Thank you so much for the article you sent me yesterday. It perfectly summed up my current feelings.
I give you all the hugs. And I expect vanilla scented hugs in return!
Here is another hug – so grateful for your kindness at NST and *no doubt* many other places you touch.
Hugs from Arkansas, She-ra!
Hugs all around! Hope next week is better She-ra.
Robin, so sorry for your disrupted travel plans. At least you don’t have to deal with the Memorial Day crowds although you may get the July 4th ones.
SOTD = Papillon Hera Extrait
Updated description of The Golden Child: fizzy, vintage-y and powdery superfloral that dries down sweet and musky. I used 4 sprays and they lasted ~ 5 hours before turning into a pleasant skin scent. It reminds me of a more floral older well-kept Chanel No. 5, which could be good or bad depending on how you feel about No. 5. I will absolutely enjoy wearing it!
In other news, my Jiji’s Stained Glass Accessory Tree came from Kiki’s Delivery Service. I was confused by the names but it is legit, whew! The item looks like the picture of it I took at the Barnes & Noble. It would have been a pain to mail it back since it came from Canada.
Glad to hear that your tree knickknack turned out to be legit!
And you are totally in LURVE with that new perfume, ha!
I’m happy for both!
Glad it worked out and you didn’t have a fake!
Thank you!
That tree is so adorable!
Thanks. Now I am looking at a puzzle but doubt I’ll get it.
Thank you! That may be the last time I try to fly on Memorial Day weekend.
I don’t understand what you bought but glad it is not fake!
Sounds lovely!
Posting late today.
Sorry to hear about your canceled flight Robin. What a pain!

Loads of torrential rain this afternoon, plus a tornado warning. However, the worst thing that happened to me was a rather soaked package on my front steps. Fortunately the contents inside are OK.
SOTD = Heeley Eau Sacree, from the Sample Stash. AnnieA, this is one of the other incense perfumes I was thinking about earlier in the week. It’s making me feel cool and collected even if today was grody and muggy.
Vintage songs!
It was grody today but thank goodness, no tornado warning!
Hopefully this afternoon was the worst of the weather and the rest of the long weekend will be halfway decent. Glad that you didn’t have the nasty weather warnings that I did!
Happily there’s a local store stocking Heeley, so I can give Eau Sacree a sniff sometime. In the meantime I will….enjoy the silence.
Heeley has/had a couple of incense perfumes. Eau Sacree and Cardinal. Cardinal is *very* churchy. You also might want to give Hippie Rose a sniff, even though it isn’t incense. Very nice patchouli perfume, that one.
Nice tie-in to Depeche Mode!
Torrential rain here too earlier.
You picked some great songs🤘
Thanks! Those are a couple of my favorites.
But sorry that you were part of the SoakFest! ☔
🤘 They were playing a lot of Depeche Mode on Sirius Xm radio when I drove home today. So sad.
Depeche Mode takes me right back to college. I still can’t believe I didn’t hear anything until lillyjo said something yesterday.
Same.
I only knew because my daughter told me. DM is her favorite band and I think she got a notification on IG.
Funny story (now) – the only project I ever failed in school was in gym. We had to choreograph aerobic dance routines to a song of our choice.
We were angry that girls had to do aerobics while the boys got to wrestle.
We choreographed a routine to Personal Jesus with all the required elements and still failed the assignment because “gloomy music isn’t good for aerobics”.
I’ so glad it’s not 1990.
At least you didn’t pick anything from Sisters of Mercy!
Wearing Zeste de Soleil on on arm and Biehl PC01 on the other. The latter hasn’t gotten much play in recent years, but this might be the summer for it again.
It’s funny how some perfumes plant themselves firmly in one time and place.
I wore bbw At the Beach for the cp today. Funny that I used to hate beachy perfumes, now I keep searching for more. For work tonight I switched to Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid. I have the next 2 days off but will work Monday. I’m really really going to try and clean out some closets or a box or two in the basement. Really. Lol!
Robin.. I hope your trip is awesome when you reschedule!
Yay for 2 days off in a row!
It can’t come soon enough!
Did you go full bottle on Ruby Orchid? I forgot about that one, but thought it sounded really yummy when it was launched.
It looked like a good contender for Bottle Porn, too.
I got it as a Christmas gift. I really like it. I get red berries and patchouli. It’s seems perfect for in between weather.
I’ m in Pacifico today. My hope for the summer is to revive my meditation practice, so I will wear a contemplative fragrance tomorrow and spend some quality time on the cushion.
It’s been a very heavy week. Sending hugs and love to anyone who is unsettled, sad, angry, heartbroken, or just leaden. Give the ones you love hugs. Give yourselves hugs. We are all amazing people who resonate light against the darkness.
Dang right we do!✌️
The dark will never win.
Keep fighting the good fight sistine❤️
I need to meditate this weekend too!
So sorry it’s been a heavy week, sistine.
Happy anniversay, Robin! I hope you get to celebrate, that´s an important date.
Wearing Rahele from a perfume sample. It´s good but no love.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Gabriela, and don’t worry, we will!
