It’s Almost-Friday, Pan American Day and National Dolphin Day. Happy 90th to Loretta Lynn! What fragrance are you wearing?
It's a gorgeous spring morning here, and I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Paper • White.
Reminder: 4/15 is Tax Day in the US (update: except not really, since taxes are not really due until 4/18 this year because of Emancipation Day). Pick your poison: wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample) you'd buy if you had an unexpected windfall, or wear a cheap thrill.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

That picture is what my sky looks like today, and the sun is out!? It is chilly though. The weatherman said last night that we will have below average temps all the way through next Friday. Oh goodie.
I’m the crowd pleaser Vanille Insensee. Today is my Friday and I have a 4 day weekend coming up. Off Monday to take my son for his shoulder surgery.?That kind of snuck up on me.
Enjoy the sunshine! And good luck to your son.
Have a great extended weekend! Good luck to your son!
We have blue skies too, and windy/chilly. So nice after all the rain.
Enjoy your long weekend, wishing your son a speedy recovery.
Have a great sunny weekend! We finally woke up to sun here today. Best wishes for your son’s surgery.
Have a great weekend and I hope your son’s surgery goes well!
Hooray for blue skies! I hope you have a nice weekend, and your son’s surgery goes smoothly.
Love blue skies – I see a little patch of blue here, too. Hope your son heals fast and well!
Hope you have a great weekend and good luck with your son’s surgery!
Best of luck to your son on his surgery! ????
Thanks everyone!!?
Wearing No. 5 L’Eau on one arm and Gabrielle on the other, from my wander through the cosmetics floor at Brown Thomas earlier today. I like them both, but I do not need either one — and Gabrielle REALLY reminds me of Paris-Deauville (which I have and love). I didn’t bring P-D with me so it has been at least eight months since I’ve smelled it — maybe I am misremembering. What do others think?
Happy 90th to Loretta Lynn!
I will be of no help whatsoever, but glad you got a beauty hall wander!
If you are in Dublin have you been able to get to Parfumarija? It is lovely.
I’m wearing Nuit de Tubereuse, from one of my oldest discovery sets. I wonder why I had the impression that I didn’t like this. I do like it, and I think that I have a larger manufacturer’s sample somewhere. I’ll have to find it.
You smell great! I just discovered this one too and really enjoy it.
Wearing Zoologist Moth today, one of my favorites from the brand.
Loretta Lynn! We watch Coal Miner’s Daughter every few years, such a great movie.
Beautiful picture, Robin!
And I have not seen it in years, I should watch it again.
Woke up in Ubar this morning. I keep forgetting how Ubar wears me. Now in the less demanding no 5 edt. I am hoping that on Saturday, I get a chance to hit up Malley’s Chocolates and get some stuff.
Eat a chocolate for me Dawn!
In Eau de Gaga this morning, for the cheap thrill part of the CP. Sunny but cold again here, which sounds consistent with many people today. Just glad I’m not surviving a late blizzard like those in the Prairies.
Half day of school today, and then a four-day weekend (for the kid, not for me). I’m looking forward to high school next year, where I believe they do fewer of these stupid early dismissals before every holiday and fewer professional development days.
Good pick!!
We are sunny and warm but expecting big storms this afternoon…I did a very quick bike ride while I had the chance.
Been a wackadoodle couple of days, so was just catching up on this week’s posts.
Spent most of Monday preparing for a discussion I was leading Wed morning with a women’s thing I’m in. Because Tuesday was dedicated to driving to another town about 1.5 hrs away to take the high-mileage used car we got to be checked our – various warning lights. And to see Everything, Everywhere All at Once. Upshot: lots of stuff going sideways on the car, which caused freak out over $$$ involved. Except most are just not something to bother with, given the age of the car (service mgr was very straightforward.) Biggest thing we have to decide is repairing anti-lock braking…which we don’t really need till winter. So, we’ll defer that decision. Good news is roofers seemed to have repaired the leak we had…
Husband took off from there to Madison. WI Film Festival is on, so I sent him down for a “fix.” Minimum of 6 movies in 2 days, as far as I know. He’s like a kid in a candy store, or a perfumista in Paris.
Benefit to me is I can lower the thermostat – I didn’t even bother turning up the heat this am, even though it read 66.
Numerous spritzes of Baiser de Russie today, I think I’ll just keep spraying all day long.
Side note: I wasn’t as impressed with the movie as expected, based on review ratings. But I will say Jamie Lee Curtis stole the show. Hard to do, given my long-standing fan-girl admiration of Michelle Yeoh – going back to Policy Story III – Supercop with Jackie Chan. She’s still my favorite “Bond Girl.”
What is it about the thermostat? I keep turning it down and he keeps turning it up. I thought men were supposed to be tough.
Mine is always cold. I’m a bit odd, though. I prefer to be slightly chilly.
I do too – would rather be a little chilly than too hot.
Sorry about the car issues! Those are awful.
Yeah…we just have to decide if winter weather here warrants spending the $$. I’ll do some math…we really just wanted this car to carry us through until used car prices adjust back down. Given the lack of new cars available, used car prices are crazy. I figure once new car production gets back up to normal, there’ll be lots of used cars on the market and, hopefully, prices will drop.
Good morning.
Sotd is L’Ombre Dans L’Eau edp. Every time I wear this I was want to spray more and breathe it all in. Love this stuff!
Currently drinking chamomile tea with a swirl of honey.
House twin! You smell lovely.
I’m in L’Eau de L’Artisan today from a decant, thanks to a kind NSTer. This is gorgeous, perfect match to the perfect weather today. Going to take the Wild One for a walk soon, before it gets much warmer. Have a great Thursday, all! ?
You smell great!!
Green Spell by Eris.
So green it will take me off to dreams of woodlands, pastures and forests.
Portia x
Sounds delightful! Mine is VCA Bois d’Iris, taking me to imaginary workplaces, if classy ones – aka it’s an office scent…
That would be a good community project!
Smelling like a classy workplace sounds pretty good to me AnnieA.
Today I’m in Philosykos. It’s just perfect.
Isn’t it always 😉
testing a fragrance that has had my interest for a while. Pekji Ruh.
Amber, cardamom, coffee, jasmine, musk, oud, patchouli, rose, saffron, sandalwood.
The coffee is nice not too strong or harsh. we shall see how it goes through the day.
your perfume…Sounds like my father in laws chai minus the jasmine
That scent sounds amazing, though I have never heard of it before! Will have to look it up. I bet you smell wonderful!
the bottle is beautiful it has Turkish writing all over it.
Just looked it up–how lovely! If you decide to buy it and split it, count me in 🙂 (yes yes, I know there are MANY steps between trying a perfume and deciding to buy and split it)
Mon Guerlian body lotion
In Comme des Garcons Kyoto.
Happy Thursday! ?
You smell wonderful today.
Thank you! ?
Yes to incense!
?
Sotd is L’Artisan Poivre Piquant – I like this one a lot but I have to keep reapplying throughout the day since it disappears on me quickly.
A lot of the early L’Artisans were like that.
Time for Poivre Piquant Extrême???
Trying the last two of my Carthusia samples today, with Ligea and Uomo. Ligea is an oddball to my nose – lemon, vanilla/styrax (giving me a Corn Pops note), and smoking incense are most prominent, with lavender, lemongrass, and patchouli all popping in an out. It’s like they are all hanging out in the same room, but not interacting. I first tired Uomo in November and it is interesting to compare my notes. Then (on what I assume was a cool/cold day) I got a milky sandalwood. Today, in on unseasonably warm day, I get milky sandalwood plus acidic pops of citrus, LOTV with greens, and patchouli, and some oakmoss. The heat really opens it up.
Drinking a homemade cuvee of cinnamon, chocolate, and coconut black teas. It’s not bad — it would be hard to mess up that flavor combo — but not as good combined as they are separately, so that’s the end of this experiment. I kept thinking that Easter was next weekend, so I was happy to realize last night that it is this Sunday and so my three-day weekend starts tomorrow.
And PSA — the Trader Joes Foaming Basil Handsoap smells good when you use it without lingering on your hands, and is less drying than most of the foaming handsoaps I’ve tried.
I grabbed two bottles recently and I like it a lot. I also got the Orange Blossom Honey. Both smell really good and do not linger for too long.
Oooh, I’ll look for that one next time.
Thank you both, I will look for those!
I love that Orange Blossom Honey soap too. Thanks for reminding me of it. I don’t get to TJ’soften, but that’s one of my staples when I do. Next time I’ll also grab the basil soap.
I really wish that the Trader Joe’s near me wasn’t such a pain in the rear to get to.
Wearing FB Luxe, Calme et Volupté, hoping I can make good use of this sunny day to get lots of stuff done. Would like to get to the greenhouse to buy some hydrangeas to plant.
I love hydrangeas, we have quite a few but would like another Pee Gee.
Just finished pulling eleventy-billion weeds, stiff and sore. If I’m still mobile and it doesn’t rain, I will try to plant the hydrangeas….
You are a better person than I, cazaubon…I have pulled zero weeds this year.
Perfect timing! Today was National Gardening Day.
Loretta’s 90, wow. Her collab with Jack White is memorable:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO8RG245ZGY
The shampoo I used this morning is so fragrant that I can’t handle a SOTD.
For those who were tempted by the Caswell Massey soaps that Robin posted about last week, C-M just sent a catalog featuring a 20% discount code: blossom.
Enabler pin!
Nice!
Thanks!
Off and on the phone all day yesterday and now this morning with my insurance who has completely messed up my billing and payment for hospitalizations last year in August and September. No one can seem to figure it out. I need a VERY soothing perfume to deal with this. I CANNOT tell you how much I dislike insurance companies and their ineffective, convoluted, and inefficient systems. Really. Words are not enough.
The US must be the only developed nation where you HAVE to work in order to be insured, that insurance costs a ridiculous amount, and then you have to battle with them to have things covered. Ugh.
Ok. SSS Tabac Aurea to the rescue! ?
US insurance of any kind and HOAs are 2 banes of modern existence for sure.
So sorry for your insurance woes!!
Yeah, I realized last weekend how happy Canadian health care still makes me, and I’m just such a happy patient when I have to go in. I had an accident with a knife, and sliced pretty deeply into my hand. I went in for stitches the next morning, and was grinning the whole time, practically. I walked into urgent care, explained the issue at the desk and gave them my care card / driver’s license, waited 5 min, and then a doctor stitched me up while a nurse gave me the tetanus shot I should have gotten a few years ago. Then I walked out. No stopping at the desk on the way out to haggle over insurance (this is the part that still amazes me…I just…walk out). No crazy bills in the mail afterwards, showing that it cost thousands of dollars to put in four stitches. No arguing with insurance over it. As someone US-born, I still marvel at it.
Not trying to gloat. But I still appreciate it, very much, and have appreciated it both in Canada and in Germany. I wish the U.S. could get there.
Wow, I’d have been grinning too. So simple and hassle free. Truly, how it should be when already dealing with stressful medical stuff.
I guess I should have been a little more thoughtful with my scent selection this morning, as mine is definitely not helping my tension headache. I was actually considering buying a bottle of this, Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers, because I found it so compelling the first time I wore it. Now I wish I’d gone with something I was more familiar with, as I’m just currently wishing I wasn’t smelling anything.
At least today is my Friday since I took tomorrow off. Planning to go see a matinee showing of Everything Everywhere All at Once and get some tasty lunch and cupcakes downtown afterwards.
I hope the headache eases soon.
Thank you! It’s a little better now. I think it’s stemming from neck pain. I really need to make yoga and stretching a part of my daily routine. My posture is awful.
Oh good! I should do more neck stretching too. I carry all my stress in my neck and shoulders.
Check out Yoga With Adriene on YouTube. She has some short videos to do stretches/poses targeted to certain areas like neck, shoulder, upper back. I like one that’s 17 minutes, I think. I’ve found it easy to do and effective usually.
Enjoy your weekend headache-free!
Thanks, fingers crossed!
Your Friday sounds lovely…hope that headache is gone.
It’s mostly gone. I’m definitely using my shiatsu massager a lot tonight.
Those things are lovely! Someone gave us one…best present ever.
The start of the 4 day Easter weekend, so exciting!! It’s a sunny morning as well, although it’s quite nippy.
Just reflecting that “nippy” might not be a term used universally 🙂 – it’s a crisp sort of morning, not cold enough to be frosty, but heading in that direction.
Perfume-wise, I’m contemplating something warm and rich like Fate.
We, or I should say, I use it here in the northeast U.S.
“Nippy” was used out in Colorado ages ago when I was a kid. I still use it.
We use it in the Midwest.
Checking in to say we use nippy here in the mid-Atlantic US.
It works on the west coast of Canada, too.
Another beautiful spring day, 19C with some clouds, if it continues I will stop reporting as it would become tedious for readers.
This morning I layered Maison de la Vanille Vanille Divine des Tropiques (always been a touch too sweet) with Lush Sow cake (always been too bitter almondish) and it worked.
Tonight it’s Les Néréides Imperial Opoponax which Fragrantica calls oppoponax, also correct spelling but different from the bottle label, oh, well.
You smell marvelous no matter what spelling you use. That one is in my top ten list.
Thank you ringthing, it is high on my list of favorites too. I think we are the only ones on NST to use this perfume.
I’m happy to hear when someone has nice weather lately, since so many of us here at NST have been saddled with Yuck!
Thank you Jalapeno, very altruistic of you, fingers crossed for your having good weather for the holiday weekend.
I’m very happy that you are having a great spring!
Thank you Lillyjo, spring is a lovely season in the UK for sure but I don’t want to get boring repeating the same weather info.
Beautiful weather and house twins, Robin! How are you liking Paper White? It’s quite likely I have an unsniffed sample around here. Sotd is DSH’s August Picnic for the cp. Still love it!
It’s fun to reconnect with past perfume loves, isn’t it?
It is! In this instance, I’m just staying with a new-ish sample which is rare for me.
So you are kind of doing the same thing, perfume-wise, that I am!
Yep! I’m in good
company. ?
I think I really like it quite a bit, but I accidentally put on a drop of Kaleidoscope first (grabbed the wrong vial) … maybe that made it better, maybe it made it worse? I’ll find out eventually.
Oh yeah, I’ve done that! I’m hoping I’ll remember to pull out my DSH samples tomorrow and see if I have that one.
Very glad I popped out during lunchtime to get groceries, and especially the ham for Easter dinner, today. It was warm and sunny (82 degrees F) then… now there are menacing clouds to the East and the wind has kicked up. The predicted thunderstorms are on their way! Hoping that we do NOT get any hail. ☔⚡
SOTD = yadda yadda yadda Opium Orchidee flanker yadda yadda. Today I’m getting whiffs of incense and citrus along with the flowers. They sure don’t make perfumes like this anymore, unless you go with indie perfumes.
Isn’t it wonderful to discover something that moves you like that? I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
Thanks! ?
It’s the polar opposite of a scrubber for sure! I’ve enjoyed seeing how this one changes with time and environmental conditions.
It was too hot too soon! But my heat will be back on again tonight.
I’ll have the A/C on again tonight. Probably won’t turn it off until Sunday based on the latest forecast I saw.
The thunder this afternoon scared Teflon kitty into hiding under the dining room table, poor thing!
The wind here has been insane. It finally is starting to die down.
Today’s weather front hit hard and fast. It was gone in maybe 30 minutes. No hail, and no downed trees. Some truly torrential rain, though. It sounded like someone was throwing gravel against the side of the house.
You were smarter than I was…got caught in the storm on the way home from the store. It was so bad people were just pulling over on the side of the road to wait it out.
I did NOT want to get groceries tomorrow or Saturday, so I made plans for today. I figure things are probably going to be crazy then.
Mr. Jalapeno got caught when he was at Costco earlier tonight. He stayed in the store for a while to let the worst of the weather pass.
It’s a gorgeous day here and I’m sitting out on my porch enjoying late afternoon sun and some light breezes, with one cat on my lap and three more napping nearby. My SOTD is MPG Ambre Precieux partly because one of my recent Luckyscent patchouli samples is from MPG and I wanted to compare them. No verdict yet.
I tried washing my Apple watchband to get rid of that other stinky patchouli sample (Crivelli Magnetik) but it’s still on there! I used a light soak in Dawn dishsoap plus water. What can I try next? I have the woven or braided kind of strap
Can you dip it in Ambre Precieux, assuming you like it?
Have you tried making a paste with baking soda and water, leaving it on the strap for about an hour, and then washing it?
I do that all the time to knock down stubborn perfume on my shirts.
Maybe a soak in white vinegar and baking soda would help…or perhaps the scent-free version of Oxiclean.
If you keep a box of baking soda in the fridge, I’d just put it in the box for an hour and see what happens…
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Sous Le Toit de Paris
One of my all time favorites!

I’m multi-tasking while listening and smelling with Carthusia!
Have fun sniffing!
Let us know if there’s anything really good. Or really bad! ?
Sotd is Samsara. My dinner is grilled ham and cheese.
A customer locked her kid in the car today with the keys. A tow truck driver was able to unlock it thankfully. I remember when my kid’s were little being so afraid I might do that. Scary.
Your SOTD is on my “Desert Island” list! So obviously that means you smell great. ????
Glad the car was quickly opened! When my kids were tiny, I had a minivan with the Onstar service that could unlock your doors remotely. I only had to use that feature twice, and I didn’t have a kid in the minivan when it happened. But I was always so relieved that I had that option, just in case!
SOTD was Elizabeth Arden’s Splendor, thinking it might be a bargain beauty for the CP. Kind of disappointing, given how many floral notes are listed that I love. It was okay, inoffensive, but a pretty generic soft floral. Bummer. I will probably wear Adam Levine for Her or Natori for the CP tomorrow! My thoughts on both are here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2018/11/18/scent-sample-sunday-adam-levine-for-her/; https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2021/12/11/scented-advent-december-11/
SJP Stash is always a good option for a bargain beauty, too.
P.S. I’m really looking forward to Easter! I am taking tomorrow and Monday off, so it will be a four-day weekend. All three kids will be home for Easter, and I’m planning my menu for the holiday dinner. Maybe I can even persuade my oldest to do some baking! She’s very good at that.
