It's Tuesday, National Espresso Day and Fibonacci Day. Birthdays: José Clemente Orozco, Harpo Marx, Bruce Hornsby. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying Upton's Christmas tea (orange peels, cloves, cardamom, vanilla and rose petals), and I'm taking community project points in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Bakul Medjool.
Reminder: 11/26 will be Hide My Credit Card Friday. In honor of Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day, wear a fragrance (presumably from a sample) that you're itching to buy but don't own yet. (This is a repeat from 2017; suggested by Lovestosmellgood.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning.
Robin, is the tea any good?
Sotd is Shalimar MVP.
Currently drinking Honey Tea from TWG Tea. Black tea with a robust honey scent.
seconding happy888cat’s request for your tea review, Robin 🙂
I rarely like flavored teas with vanilla, but I do like this one, makes a nice change and I am liking it more than Kusmi Tsarevna, which is my other Xmas tea.
Lots of clove though…you’d really have to like clove!
Earl Grey with lemon-
but wait!
Its National Espresso Day..
Going to warm up my machine. Be back later with SOTD
Ladies rev your engines! I just had a double espresso. 🙂
☕️ ☕️
Makes me think of Bear ? on NST
Where has he been hibernating??
He recently crossed my mind also, I hope he is okay.
I’ve already had one espresso and one regular coffee today! Wearing Oriza Legrand’s Reve d’Ossian, and I smell very incense-y. The office was briefly warmed up to 64, but back to 61 now. At least I can work from home tomorrow to prep for Thanksgiving!
Why is your office so cold?
Sorry it took so long to respond. There was a part in the HVAC system that gave out, and it took several days to replace it. The heat finally came back on late this afternoon!
The usual three cups of coffee. Oye ve I hate alarm clocks.
SOTD le lion especially on my sweater cuffs so I can inhale all day.
I love a scent that lingers on a sweater!
I’ve been thinking about this one a lot since I tried it last week…hmm…
Bond No. 9 Great Jones, from an ancient commercial sample. Pretty convincing eighties-style aromatic fougère, but not $300 worth, that’s for sure.
I am not sure at this point that anything at Bond is worth the price?
Vilhelm’s Opus Kore today. It’s nice but I’m not immediately enamored. I’m liking it enough to try it again maybe I’m just not in the right mood. Part of the problem is none of these seem to last more than a couple hours on me and I’d like at least a few hours before having to touch up. Meanwhile there are faint traces of Tam Dao lingering in the elbows of my sweater and that makes me happy.
Yum, Tam Dao 🙂
I’m wearing a freebiemeet sample that I got from a generous NSTer, Bond No 9 High Line. Very pretty, if not very seasonal. It will be great for spring.
And hopefully spring will be here before you know it (ha, wishful thinking).
I’m in Texas – we’ve had spring-like weather all week.
Ah, there you go then.
Nest Paradise for me today
Hope it is a good day LunaGrrrl!
I’m very CP compliant in my lovely Spiritueuse Double Vanille decant from the recent splitmeet . It’s a very beautiful AND comforting cool weather fragrance for me. I am also enjoying my other splitmeet decant, Lush Jilted Elf, which smelled delicious (sort of like mulled wine) on my sleep tee this morning.
Robin, how often are the splitmeets currently? Is it twice a year? I would love to have more. Can we increase to three times a year? Anyone else want to weigh in? I am curious—maybe I am the only one.
You smell fabulous!
And yes to more split and swapmeets! They are such a great way to share fragrance, get to know each other better and mitigate credit card damage 🙂
So glad you are enjoying SDV, you smell great!
Twice a year, basically spring and fall. I will think about it!
I have loved Bruce Hornsby since forever! Favorite song is:
https://youtu.be/_DjoZh6XXP0
Saw an interesting video about hot drinks for the winter season, all of them cooked up in a retro 1970’s enamel saucepan and served in stoppered Guerlain Bee Bottles, which I thought very clever but impractical.
I’m in Initio Side Effect from a very generous decant from a very generous NSTer. Wafting throughout the ridiculous night with hardly any staff, very sick patients, and a computer down time to boot.
But now I’m free for four days and I feel 50lbs lighter! ?
Enjoy your time off!
Enjoy your time off!
Yay for four days off!
We got to see Bruce Hornsby in person at the Denver Botanic Gardens. We loved it and it was such a cool venue, just sitting on the grass with a picnic listening to great music!
Enjoy your days off!
Enjoy your time off and thanks for the fantastic video!
Bon Iver’s recent collaboration with Bruce Hornsby reminded me how much I like him. I got to see him play in a small, beautiful college theater 20ish years ago and it was such a great show.
Thanks for the video link, I watched a few more while I was out there: Look Out Any Window, The Show Goes On, Mandolin Rain. Love his voice and piano playing.
Mandolin Rain is my favorite Bruce Hornsby song. It always puts me in my feelings, as the kids say.
Yay for time off! Going to do something fun?
Sotd is Ulrich Lang Nightscape – a beautiful patchouli.
Ohhh, I’m a patchouli fiend! What’s it like??
Hi ST, I’d be glad to send you a sample since I’ll never go through the entire bottle. If you’re interested I’m at l e s l i c o
r t h e l l at geeee male dot com.
No scent yet, maybe no scent today… slogging thru the after-effects of my covid booster yesterday. Glad to have gotten the booster, but I’ll be gladder when the side effects end. Hat tip to Koyel for having pointed me at where to get it in her county, my county has been slower on booster availability.
I may be able to ‘buy nothing’ on Black Friday, but it’ll only be because I’ve already bought EVERYTHING in the pre-Black-Friday sales. Waiting for my packages to show up…!
I hope you feel better soon, Mr. SmokeyToes gets his booster today. Here in the SF/Bay area, we went from no appointment necessary/walk-in, to no appointment availability for a few weeks. I’m glad kids can receive their shot, but it takes a little more planning.
Hope you feel better by tomorrow! I’ve been inundated with early Black Friday offers, everyone seems to be starting earlier to grab your dollars before the others do.
Get better!
Oooh, Donatella will have to share her crown! ?
Hope you feel better soon! And I’m right there with you on having nothing left to buy (or spend) on Black Friday.
Good luck pixel! Hope you are back to normal by tomorrow.
Yay booster! I hope you feel better soon.
Congrats on getting your booster, and I hope you can shake off the side effects soon!
Yay! So glad you got it! I hope you are back to normal tomorrow 🙂
Hope you feel better soon. My mom got hers yesterday, and she is feeling wiped out.
Wearing Hendley Cola, which is more spice than cola on me, but I like it. Tea is Westholme Black Raven.
I finally bought Outremer Cola and I love it. Lots of sweet lime and cola scent.
Have never ordered from Westholme, but they offer really attractive ceramicware. The ones I’ve been tempted to buy are always out of stock.
The best thing to do is email them as they normally have a fair amount of stuff not on the website. They email me photos of what’s actually in stock.
? good to know, thanks
In vintage Arpege today. I bought a new perfume cabinet recently and got it set up over the weekend. Can’t believe I managed to fit my collection in a tiny little repurposed bathroom cabinet for so long but at least now I won’t be knocking over bottles every time I reach for something.
Now if I can just organize my samples somehow…
Ohh I love this perfume- my bottle is about 10 years old and it’s wonderful, yours must smell even better. Enjoy! And congrats on the exciting new perfume cabinet too!
CP points for me, I’m at the bottom of my Un Bois Vanille sample and it’s going fairly…rubbery/plastic-y on me? Which isn’t something I remember. So maybe I’m not tempted to buy it after all!
That’s odd. I wonder why? Has it changed? (My bottle is old-style so haven’t experienced more recent bottles).
The juice is looking pretty dark, so it’s possible it’s off? Someone decanted it for me and it was dark when I got it though so who knows.
Hello all, my sotd is Noir de Noir by Tom Ford. Rose, saffron, patchouli, and vanilla. I love this one, but don’t wear it nearly enough.
No makeup except sunscreen (SPF 50 and mascara, I did a Jessners/TCA peel on Friday, and I have a few flakes….
Espresso consumed, and I’m out the door to the gym! I lost a couple of lbs, so I’m very happy about that. My goal is 20 lbs total – In 1999, I lost 55 lbs and kept it off for 21 years, until the pandemic and menopause hit. So the goal is to stay active, hydrate properly, and eat healthy (and reasonable) portions.
I love Noir de Noir — it’s so unique. And it’s really the fragrance that made me think – hey, I CAN like patchouli.
Good for you on your health goals! I just finished a power yoga video and will walk later. I did 8 miles on Saturday!
I find your goals very inspiring. My goal for 2022 is to get back to walking on the hillside with the dogs.
That’s a great goal – physical and mental wellness when you walk the dogs!
Smelling gorgeous! Your goals are reasonable and probably universal. Very excited that you’re having success!
Happy birthday Harpo! Sample backlog homework day #4 — DSH Biwa: a scrubber for me, white chocolate and sour baby powder; Jardin Sur la Lagune: Meh; and Slowdive: Oh God Yes. Can Hiram Green make a bad perfume? Can I justify buying his entire line? Can I at least justify buying this one as a Christmas-gift-to-self, in spite of the fact that I already splurged on a necklace from Road From Damascus as such?
Sure. I think you can have at least two Christmas gifts-to-self!
What cool necklaces and an interesting story. Yes to Slowdive. Perfect for 2022 and better days ahead.
Also, there is/ was a Lush perfume called Road from Damascus to go with your necklace.
Oh, interesting! And I recently learned that the jeweler, Steve Ali, appeared in a cameo in Fleabag Season 2 as the Stepmother’s “Syrian refugee friend.” Little interwoven cultural strands…
2nd that…going to try to forget that website!
Slowdive is sooo good.
It’s been a rough few years. Buy yourself a holiday present from yourself!
You all get enabler hugs! 🙂
Another gray PNW morning, but warmer than the past few days. I’m wearing 24, Faubourg. The latest Outlander book hit my Kindle last night so I’ll be reading this afternoon, and probably for the rest of the week. Her books are long!
A gray morning- and rainy and sunny at the same time! You smell perfect for today!
I had no idea she was still actively writing this storyline…I remember when the first book came out. It seems like a million years ago now.
The characters are aging (so is the author) and she has said she expects to end with one more book. The first one came out in 1991!
Points for MVP today. Is it officially sold out? I’ll never get my hands on it!
Black Friday is dead… long live Cyber Monday!
I feel like I should wear a proper perfume today (no reason, I’m still in bed browsing the news) so I am going with Mitsouko ( which I can reach without getting up, so a happy option).
Has anyone read Franzen’s Crossroads? I have never read his novels, only his essays and am wondering about this one. Recently I have had a poor track record with long books. I get to page 300 and then start flagging.
Crossroads is on my book stack. Was never tempted by The Corrections, but the NYT’s review of Crossroads has me willing to give it a go.
I’ve been having that problem off and on with Roughing It, which is such good fun but *so very long*. Hat tip to you for arranging your life such that you can reach your bottle of Mitsouko from bed!
I liked The Corrections and Freedom (never got around to Purity, and didn’t know about Crossroads until you mentioned it).
I should get it next week, from library hold. I read and liked the Corrections and have not read him since.
I’m in Marc-Antoine Barrois B687 today. CP points for sure since I’d love to have a bottle of this one. Actually, if I had my druthers, I’d love a set of Ganymede and B687, 20mls each. Please and thank you!
SoTD is Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast plus Stash decaf chai. Tidying today and cleaning the floors. I’m constantly amazed that two humans can generate such an amount of clutter. ?
You smell beautiful, I prefer 683 to Ganymede actually, don’t own either though I seem to remember I have a sample of the first somewhere.
Hopefully, you see this since it’s a day late, but I have an unloved 8ml decant of Ganymede. Send me an email! My NST user name at gmail.
Hello everyone. I can’t remember what I put on this morning and haven’t been reading comments here either-my pleasant desk job has just been really, really silly in recent weeks and I have been cutting screen time as a way of coping. But I only have to work a half day this Friday, and I wanted to go the fancy department store to buy some Shalimar bath products and then spend all weekend in the bath. But it’s Black Friday? That is really off-putting. But a Shalimar bath-that had been my goal for 2 weeks. What to do…
Oh I remember-SOTD was Chanel Allure hair mist, which was my very first Chanel-my brother gave it to me as a gift well over 20 years ago, when we were both unhappy little teenagers. I have treasured this bottle ever since ❤️ Wishing you all some peace and comfort today.
You smell lovely, and I feel you with silly desk jobs!
Thank you Ede! And I just saw your post below-all kinds of wow ?
A Shalimar bath sounds amazing. I’m sure the products will still be there waiting for you if you don’t go right away.
I hope so-the Guerlain counter here receives very few bath products and the sales assistant is so nice to deal with, so waiting until she has time for a chat might be better than the department store chaos of this week!
That was so sweet of your brother to gift you that perfume!
Very sweet indeed (and very out of character compared to his usual gifts then and now)!
Showered with MB Muddled Plum gel followed by lotion. I think they’ve lost a lot of their scent. Ah well. LPRN Black Perfecto seemed an appropriate follow-up. (My husband just walked in the door and said it smells wonderful in here, so I guess that’s affirmation.)
Saw French Dispatch last night. Let’s just say I think it should have been named after the movie’s (fictional stand-in for Paris) setting: Ennui-sur-Blasé. Pretty much sums up my reaction: Boredom-upon-Apathy.
Goodness me, that’s some review! Glad your perfume hasn’t let you down.
Ouch. Well that’s a review.
The funniest part is I probably liked it better than the others I went with. Including my husband, who is a film buff and loves Royal Tenenbaums.
Oh dear!!! I am holding out hope, I have not yet disliked one of his movies.
Do not take my review to heart. I’m not huge on Wes Anderson, and the reviews seem fine. You may love it.
🙂
Another sunny morning! I think it was last November where we had a near record lack of sunshine, this one has been much better.
I’m in the mood for something opulent, even though it’s just an ordinary work day, so I’ll be wearing Amouage’s Lyric.
Enjoy the sunshine? and you will smell great in Lyric.
Beautiful fall day but I think the forecast is downhill from tomorrow on. Spent the day in Angel Innocent which is one of my favorite flankers and tonight I added Kenzo Amour le parfum, I guess I was in a sweet perfumes kind of mood.
Thanksgiving is supposed to be a nice day for a significant chunk of the US East Coast, so we might be sending a little more nice weather your way…
Glad of your Good weather for the holiday, yes please, send some across the pond.
I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon this morning. I wanted a pretty scent that isn’t too aggressive. My go-to for that is MFK APOM. My doctor is kind of charming. ;-). He fondles my knee. Well not really! He’s just checking out the swelling and tender spots. Unfortunately I’m going to need a knee replacement. The arthritis in my knee is pretty bad. But not for a few months.
I’m sorry about your knee. It must be so frustrating and painful (and kind of never-ending). I really hope things turn around for the better eventually.
Thank you, yes it is starting to seem kind of an eternal punishment, like Sisyphus’s rock or Prometheus’s eagle…. But now I’m over-dramatizing. The good thing is that they can (eventually) fix these bad things that go wrong–and that I live just 15 minutes away from a major medical center.
I’m sorry to hear you need a knee replacement. Everyone I know who has had one has been thrilled with the results, but it’s still a surgery to go through.
Aw, that’s a shame about needing a knee replacement. But knee pain is the utter pits to deal with, especially on a long term basis.
Hello all!
1) SOTD: LOVE by Beauty Pie. It’s what the world needs now.
2) Both Espresso Day and Fibonacci? Gonna nerd out with a coffee and drawing!
3) Holiday job is going well- I got my first shoplifter!
“And now Ma’am, you can always pay for that measuring tape & drill bit package up at the front”
“What- I don’t-”
“Oh, just the ones you placed in your purse while I was fixing the brushes in your drill!”
A hard, mean look at me- but she did pay for the items. 🙁
4) Having been doing rounds of interviews with a prominent FinTech company- a true brass ring of a position. The last interview was today, and the energy was really high- me and the ops manager really connected well! The decision will be made end of day today SO FINGERS, TOES and EYES crossed!
5) And Thanksgiving/Indigenous Remembrance Day with friends down in Eugene- will be bringing my cider for them to try!
Eyes and ears crossed. Good luck!
Oh, crossing everything for you!!! (And what a courteous way to address that customer, wonderful. And hope you have a lovely cider celebration with friends)
One of the things I learned when I got my first retail job was always address the customer gently and speak as if they simply ‘forgot’ that they put the items in their pocket, purse, backpack, etc and remind them that they can pay at the registers. It keeps the peace and saves them from humiliation.
I am so excited this year to share my cider with dear friends who I have not seen in so long!
Oh seriously with the shoplifting! What would you call the ones where people just brazenly walk in the door and walk out with stuff under $950 with no consequences? I read somewhere that stealing a shopping cart ? will get you in worse trouble!
Good luck with the FinTech company! It’s all the rage these days.
I have seen that and just felt so bad for the person and the store. They are called ‘courtesy customers’ and yikes- those people do face consequences- their faces are on cctv, they often have cars, and sooner or later they will get a summons from the sheriff to answer a few questions! 🙁
We shall see! I am so nervous!
Stealing a shopping cart, I believe is a felony because it’s larceny from a building. Same as stealing testers instead of actual product. Regular shoplifting is a misdemeanor unless it’s like a thousand dollars.
So many rules for stealing which is so wrong to begin with.
Best of luck to you and kudos for your delicate handling of the shoplifter.
Everyone deserves a chance at dignity, I think.
ETA:
YAAAAAAY I GOT THE JOB!!!
Next steps: the official offer and paperwork!
AM SO EXCITED YOU GUYS!
CONGRATULATIONS! Hope all is smooth sailing from here!
???This is fantastic news!! So happy for you! I hope it will be everything that you hope for, and need, and deserve ?
Thank you! I have really high hopes with this new position!
Congrats – what a nice Thanksgiving present for you!
It truly IS a gift- a burden off my back. I can now focus on getting ready for Christmas instead of looking for a job.
Belated super duper congratulations! Well done! I was not up-to-date on this week’s threads and missed this happy news. 🙂
We’re excited for you, Ede–always a pleasure to hear good news these days. Congrats!
Oh, thank you! It is a burden off my back and I am excited to get ready for this new position.
So happy for you! Congratulations!
Brilliant. Go you!
HUZZAH! Thank you!
Congratulations, Ede!
Congrats on your big WIN!
OMG- it is a huge win! Being able to have good work, at a very good salary- that is a huge win! 🙂
Woo hoo!!! That’s fabulous!!! Congratulations.
Thank you! 🙂 It really is fabulous!
Congratulations! You deserve it!
Oh Gosh- thank you!
Such great news! Congrats!
Super excited for you! Congratulations!
Well done! Congrats!
Oh congratulations!
Congratulations, way to go, Ede! You are obviously wonderful at both your holiday and non-holiday jobs!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Yay! Congratulations!
So happy for you!!!
Thank you so much, Robin! I have been chasing down this job for a few weeks and am so happy I was able to get in!
I’m in Hiram Green Arbole today.
Now that Robin mentioned that tea I got a craving for a good quality winter tea.
You smell wonderful, as always!
Arbole is such a beauty! I think it’s been my favorite discovery of the past year.
You smell great!
Finished my sample of L’heure fougueuse by Cartier. I like it well enough but I don’t think I will ever want a bottle. I’ll to do something on CP for a change tomorrow!
Tea (or rather infusion) is a herbal chocolate chai that I have owned for ages and that amazingly still smells and tastes wonderful. Started the day with a nice Earl Grey, moved on to an equally enjoyable red Yunnan and have since moved on to the infusion described above. Had a good day at work and a lovely walk in the forest behind my home around noon, lovely sunny weather and the hills are just beautiful.
A walk in the forest enhances everything. ???
That’s such a great scent. I might want a full bottle…
SOTD is Lubin Magda. I get cherry, amaretto, neroli, and a little bit of sandalwood and gardenia. It started as a heavy syrupy, but over the day it has lighted. Still syrupy but pleasantly so. A daytime version of Lost Cherry.
Drinking French Gray tea.
Mmm, that perfume sounds good!

I air fried Chilean sea bass last night. While it was tastier (salt and black pepper) than is normal for me, I think it was a success! I’ll be looking up a recipe for air fried shrimp for tonight; shrimp has been shelled and de-veined. I also have enough cooked pasta to last me through at least Friday dinner.
yum and yum!
Indeed!
I don’t have a clue about air frying, but I was waiting eagerly to hear about how you were making air fried cooked pasta…. Somehow it sounded kind of intriguing (and sinful?). 😉
I should have clarified — the pasta was not air fried but one could indeed make a sinful pasta dish (cheese and bacon, anyone?).
I am looking at air fryer deals. What brand did you get?
Cuisinart TOA-60. Target seems to be having great deals every day it seems. I decided to get one that triples as an air-fryer, oven and toaster. I haven’t used the toaster feature yet.
See below on my comment to jalapeño re: the actual model.
So are you able to batter the shrimp? Or do you cook them as is and then they are crispy on the outside? I need an air fryer like a need a hole in the head, but I want one anyway!
I used this recipe and of course the only thing I had was the shrimp ? but that didn’t stop me!
https://www.cookedbyjulie.com/air-fryer-breaded-shrimp/
No unsalted butter? I used half and half figuring that it is the liquid and the fat that is needed.
No Old Bay Seasoning? I used garlic powder. I probably could have added something else like a bit of paprika and added the spice to the flour (see below).
No breadcrumbs? I used Gold Medal Wondra Quick-mixing flour which is actually used to make gravy but I’ve never made gravy and have used this flour to dredge protein before pan frying or air frying in this case.
The recipe called for spraying the shrimp with cooking spray, which I did and they turned out fine; however, the instructions should also have said spray the basket as there was some sticking.
It also called for pre-heating the air fryer but I don’t think you need to (or let’s just say I never).
It took more like 7 minutes to cook rather than 5 and indeed, it came out crispy!
So far so good with the air fryer!
By the way, I looked at the finger knitting site and it may be doable even for me. I do not trust myself with knitting needles.
How does your air fryer work? Do you batter stuff like you would in regular pan frying, or do things go in au naturel?
You can do either and so far I have not used it au naturel. I’ve used it in lieu of pan heating or frying and it’s working out really well!
This is the model I have:
https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/appliances/toaster_ovens/toa-60/
Best to not pay more than $160 for it. I got mine at Target for $230 with my Target debit card so it came out to $218.50 and I got a $75 gift card, so net $143.50 + tax.
My SIL got the digital version and she’s pretty happy with it. I may experiment with donuts this weekend!
In Aftel’s Wild Roses extrait and smell like a haute couture headshop.
Ooh, that sounds appealing!
Dang, that sounds great!
Bike ride this morning – sprayed four samples on various parts of my arms before heading out. Don’t like any of them. Will have a shower now and wear my actual scent of the day, Hendley Cola.
Sounds like Hendley Cola is a new love!
Shalimar (regular) today. Two students came to class! (Out of ten.)
Had two double espressos this morning without knowing I was celebrating something official. I’ve also had two new department-chair crises — one yesterday, and one today, the latter requiring some serious diplomacy. (The former just requires reining in the rage and not telling TPTB what we actually think.) Went out for a walk in our very cold (but sunny) weather to calm myself down. It helped. Now I would like a gin and tonic, but instead will have some tea and toast so I can compose a very delicate email with full focus. But hey, at least I smell good.
Wow, sounds like a headache inducing day. Hope evening time is much more relaxed. Good luck with the email!
If you need a gin and tonic after the delicate email, please come over. I will pour you a very generous cocktail.
Passing you a heaping cup o’ patience!
If you are gingerly tiptoeing around the email, maybe write it and don’t send?
Yesterday’s flu shot made me feel awful today. I had to come to work though since I used my last sick day on my tooth.
I am wearing just a little Korres Rose body butter on my legs, and starting to feel better.
Oy! Glad you are feeling better. Can you take an unpaid-excused day?
I could but I would have to be more sick to miss a whole day without pay.
I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks! I am definitely on the mend!
Bleurgh! Sorry to hear that you got wiped out by your flu shot.
Korres makes some of the best scented lotions & body butters!
I know! I wish they weren’t so hard to find in stores.
I’ve been ordering directly from them since Sephora quit carrying their stuff.
Hope you feel better today!
L’Eau d’Hiver – at least, it was there this morning….
Maybe that means you will have a short Winter this year?
Late late late today! Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting! Been busy most of the afternoon with errands and travel prep. I will be going radio silent after tonight, so I will see you all next week.
Be safe and be well NSTers!
SOTD = Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa EdP, for calm in the middle of all the crazy!
Have a great Thanksgiving, jalapeño! I hope the get-together turns out much better than you anticipated!
Thank you hajusuuri! It seems that lillyjo’s comment last night about a funny story or two was prophetic. I will share after I get back… ?
I can’t wait!
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Have a safe trip.
Thanks lillyjo! Best of luck with your Great Turkey Cooking Adventure!
LOL! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Happy Thanksgiving, Jalapeno. I hope you end up having an enjoyable time away.
Thanks Gail! The weather is going to behave itself for the most part, so I am quite lucky in that regard!
Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope your week away is as gentle as possible!
Happy Thanksgiving, do come back with stories ?
I wore DedCool’s Taunt today from the roller ball. I love it and would be tempted to buy the full bottle except I’m pretty sure the roller ball will last until 2024.
Is anyone else thinking about a short news fast? I get so anxious reading the news. But then I think that I’m super privileged not to be living the news, so I should engage. Just trying to figure out how I can be responsible and still protect my mental health.
I stepped back from news consumption completely during 2020, and began dipping various body parts back into the maelstrom about six months ago. I know what you mean about finding balance between engagement and mental danger — it’s a daily challenge for me, because Mr. G is a news junkie who somehow absorbs it without going insane. Wish I had that talent.
I’ve cut down on my news consumption a lot. I’ve noticed that certain mainstream websites are taking a tone that I don’t care for (confrontational), but seems to drive consumer engagement. Well, they can bite it!
I just read my local news, and only click on the stories I think I can handle for the day, and the weather.
I haven’t cut down although I’m on a rut of COVID news and whatever other news and human interest stories branch out from it.
I’ve been on a general news fast since my recent trip out of town — it’s been doing me good. I’m still engaging via various newsletters and notifications that I get, submitting letters for EIRs and to congressfolk when warranted, but it’s been really strengthening to take a break from the ghastly drumbeat of the daily news. For me, it comes down to thinking critically about where I can make a difference or help effect any sort of positive change, vs. just being dragged down by too much bad news.
I haven’t watched the news since April 2020. Don’t miss it at all. If something important happens, my husband will tell me.
