Well, yes, it's Monday again. Also, Bundt Cake Day and Georgia O’Keeffe's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I was up early for routine blood tests and now I'm running late...I'm just having a cup of tea and about to rifle through samples. I'll report back later!
Reminder: Early on 11/19 (some of us will be sleeping) we'll see a Partial Lunar Eclipse of the Micro Beaver Moon. Wear what you think fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Robin, I hope you’re over your booster malaise! We got ours on Friday and didn’t have even a hint of a bad reaction: I was a bit worried, since I’d heard (from co-workers and online) that some people were down for the count for a few days.
I have a 30-year-old commercial sample of Chopard Cašmir that is somehow in perfect condition, so I’m in a couple of drops of that, and holy cow it is a *lot*. The top is this immense fruit compote, the base is every vanillic thing in the world (vanilla, benzoin, tonka, opoponax, and amber) and more besides: it’s like the last desperate gasp of the too-much eighties (it was launched in 1992 but you know it was in the works for years), and it is terrific.
Some of you will have heard of Deciem, a Canadian company which makes skincare. Every November they have a 23% sale, everything they sell, and so I ordered a few things, which arrived this morning, one of which was a room spray called Shop, which is meant to call to mind their minimalist brick-and-mortar stores. Lots of bone-dry, minerally cedar, a shot of Iso E Super, some patchouli, very austere, very much to my taste. The bottle is gorgeous, too: frosted glass, astonishingly heavy, and you can’t tell from the photo on the website but it’s covered in a dramatic iridescence which is a different colour on each side — gold, green, blue, and magenta. $18 CAD! Highly recommended.
Oh I’m so happy for you!! That’s lovely. I was only feeling sick for 24 hours but my arm still hurts and looks red and swollen around the site, which the pharmacist assures me is normal and not a proper allergic reaction.
Your vintage Casmir sounds lovely!
I adore Deciem but did not know they had a room spray, interesting.
Glad you’re feeling better!
The Shop room spray is really well hidden on the website, which was redesigned and not for the better after Estée Lauder bought a controlling interest in the company. If you google “deciem abnomaly shop” (Abnomaly is one of the discontinued Deciem lines) you’ll find it. Now’s the time, with their big November sale.
Thanks for the tip!!
I adore Casmir, I have a mini bottle which I treasure. This is one perfume that is dab-only, it’s a powerhouse!
The room spray sounds just like my cup of tea. Is Deciem The Ordinary? I like The Buffet and Lactic Acid 5% are both effective and reasonably priced.
Yes, Deciem owns The Ordinary and a couple of other lines as well, Hylamide (mid-priced) and NIOD (high-end). All the lines have good products, but The Ordinary lets you try all sorts of interesting products for hardly any money at all. You could put together an entire routine with six or eight products for under $50.
That room spray is right up my alley! (Well, I don’t know how austere I am…).
I pulled the trigger on a few bottles, they seem like a nice hostess gift for holiday gatherings.
*Enabler points awarded.*
Another enabler pin! And thanks for the heads up on their sale – I had forgotten about it.
for the CP, a beautiful constellation and also a beautiful perfume Cassiopea
Top: passion fruit, lemon, cassis, fern
Middle: carnation, lily of the valley, rosa tea
Base: sandalwood, tonka bean, musk
Eye shadow blush lipstick and for some reason lots of black in my clothing today which doesn’t fit my perfume or my mood. Going to change
Points for ltsg!
Grazie!~
Your perfume sounds lovely! I am craving color, teal, coral pinks, fuchsia (I don’t look good in those colors). Not ready for all-black just yet.
Hmm..you just gave me an idea for a sweater color..I have a pink colored one!
I’m wearing Demeter Chrysanthemum, cheap as chips and perfect for this time of year, and aromatic enough to suit my current taste.
I should get one to spray on the mums outside 🙂
😀 I’ve been tempted to spray some of my more underwhelming rose bushes with Une Rose.
Have a PT appt early this afternoon, so in a discreet spritz of Shalimar MVP again. Already know the therapist is bothered by strong scents–there was a gentleman there last week sporting a powerhouse.
Watched an episode of the Kevin Costner western melodrama Yellowstone last night, and was taken with the atmospheric song accompanying the opening montage:

Young guy sounds like the offspring of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and Gordon Lightfoot.
My husband loves that show but I had never heard the music, thanks! Agree with all the comments…face and voice are not a match.
Colter Wall is one gem from indie country. Steele Woods was awesome, too!
Never tried MVP, does it predominantly have Shalimar DNA?
Quite recognizably Shalimar in my opinion.
Good morning all! My SOTD is Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, layered over the body oil. Intoxicating.
I lit my candles from Voluspa, Baltic Amber and Coconut Vanilla, they are delicious and scented the entire apartment. Last night’s supper was Roasted Pork with dried fruit sauce.

Shoes on, espresso consumed and I’m out the door for a three-mile walk….
Enjoy your walk..making an espresso pronto
Shalimar MVP for the third day in a row!
wow! Everyone is loving the MVP
It’s just so beautiful!!
Joining you in MVP today and oh my how happy am I?
Twins!
Nice! MVP is getting a lot of love!
Iris 39 today. But my leave in conditioner is overpowering it.
Boo to belligerent hair products! I tried a hair oil from Curlsmith recently but it drop-kicks any fragrance I’m wearing with its overpowering piña-colada-ness.
Yuck. I had the same thing happen with a dry shampoo. So much fragrance in it that it was unpleasant to use. Other than that, it was a decent product.
Spent all day yesterday and a good chunk of this morning in Epic woman. Now I am Eau Premiere. Not looking forward to working until Thanksgiving since it will insanely busy with bread and pie orders.
Ooooh, I am loving Epic Woman (from the splitmeet). I wore it over the weekend, and it was fantastic. You smell/smelled great!
Hi all! I had to take a break from fragrance last week — one of those times when my emotions get so whitewater-tumblesome that I need everything to be quiet and austere so that my limbic system can settle. Thinking I’m ready to wear a little something today but can’t figure out what. It’s pea-soup foggy and I haven’t slept great recently so a chirpy little cologne wouldn’t be right, and I know I can’t handle anything with any passion to it. Maybe I’ll dig out my Child sample?
Hmmm, what about something with vanilla? I like vanilla in the rain, and I can see it working in fog too. Definitely no passion in vanilla. ; )
I feel ya, Isabella. I mostly took a break, too. We had such a very hot week.
I returned the TF Ebene Fume. I kept the Tauer Sundowner.
Today is cooler so am going with le labo tea matcha sample. I liked it the first time I sampled it.
No shame in taking a break from perfume when you need to. Been there, done that.
Started the week with Amour de Palazzo by Jul et Mad.
It’s so dull and chilly outside. I started wearing the scarf but a hat and gloves might be needed soon as well.
Same weather here pretty much, Lucasai!
I’m in JM’s Amber & Patch, not one I’ve loooved. But I keep giving my decant a whirl. This AM it fits my mood perfectly. Won’t replace when it is gone, but I have enjoyed the decant ride.
I have never replaced a single bottle of JM. But I do regret not getting Black Vetyver Cafe when it was still around.
Sonoma Scent Studio Lieu de Rêves, which I bought a few years back in a small travel spray. It reminds me too much of Infusion d’Iris…too powdery for my taste. But it works on a chilly day. I’ll be bundling up soon…one of my books on hold has come available.
So much for the snow. By the time we got back from church and errands around midday it was almost all gone. The drive to church was gorgeous, with snow still on trees. On ride home, much had already gone.
The snow looked beautiful while you had it. Enjoy your book.
Wearing Caleche, the old standby for days of overwhelm. It’s so cold in my office that I am wearing fingerless gloves and my outdoor winter coat. Can’t smell much…
I find it really hard to work when I am cold–despite my trying to channel Bob Cratchit and Victorian office working conditions generally. Can you bring in a space heater?
I am definitely doing less work and more playing on NST! I am terrified of space heaters. I was once sitting in an office when the space heater 10 feet away caught fire! I will not go near them any more.
Days of overwhelm-woe. I know this feeling. Hope Hermès will come to the rescue and spirit you right away!
It is certainly helping.

Let Badger be your style guide!
That adaptation sounds so sad and so good. I love Steven Fry.
Continuing to thunk some decants this week though I do have a perfume picked out for the CP on Friday. Today’s thunk is PdN Mimosaique from a large decant I’ve had since MakeupAlley swapping days. It’s a shame this was discontinued as it’s a lovely mimosa that sparkles and has both almond pastry and clean musk (but not laundry kind of clean) facets. It was foolish of me to swap away a bottle a long time ago. I wonder what I got in return?
This is a weird week for me because my partner will be traveling for work. He started a new job a month ago after 2+ months of applications and interviews. Things were pretty tumultuous around then and the time leading up to him deciding it was finally time to get serious about leaving the job he’d been at for the last 6 years. He was increasingly miserable there, especially the last two years as his company culture devolved with changes in staff and became pretty toxic and ignored employee well being.
Anyway, so now he’s able to work from home (he was considered essential and had to go into work everyday of the pandemic) except his job requires 25% travel. This is especially interesting for him to get used to as an extreme introvert who doesn’t even like to travel much. But he’s ready to adapt and try to take things as they come. He’s flying from Seattle to Atlanta tomorrow for a couple nights and will possibly have to stop in Phoenix before coming home at the end of the week. I’ll miss him terribly, as I’ve never slept here without him. It’s always been me going away on solo trips, not him. But I’m hoping it will be nice to have a little time to myself.
Congrats if you read all that! ?
Absence makes the heart grow fonder! And a little alone time is a wonderful thing.
Both very good points! It helps we just had a really nice weekend together.
Enjoy your week and I hope you sleep well and peacefully every night.
Thanks, Kanuka. I’m actually looking forward to having the whole bed too myself. ?
Congratulations, I think, on thunking. Just like you, I have a tin of MUA decants sealed up, due to several moves. And I don’t think I even opened some!
Thanks, it was a bittersweet thunk. But the decant had been evaporating so I didn’t want to lose any more of it. It was that one’s time.
And omg please open up that tin and tell us what’s in there!
Congrats to the partner for the new job! Alone time is special…
Thanks! I think it’ll be good for both of us. I can’t wait until he deals with the airport and travel and is at his destination. The lead up to the travel is the stressful part.
I’m thrilled that your partner had the guts to change jobs when the culture became toxic. Hoping he finds the travel interesting, and that you find the time when he is gone peaceful, and that you miss him!
Thank you, sistine! I’m very happy he left his old job.
I am quite jealous of your remaining PdN Mimosaique. That one is a bit of a whale for me.
I echo the other NSTers that some time home alone while your significant other travels can be wonderful. Whenever Mr. Vee travels without me, the first night he is gone I’ll order take out from a place that I like but he doesn’t.
I definitely enjoyed Mimosaique while I had it, and I may need to purchase a new mimosa perfume before spring. I need to retry Amouage Love Mimosa and Perris Monte Carlo Mimosa Tanneran.
I will probably do fun takeout one night, maybe sushi because I crave it more than he does. I have a really tasty salad planned for tomorrow night.
Aw, that is an adjustment for both of you! But hope you get used to some time alone and fingers crossed that the new job is a happy one.
Thanks, Robin. I’m sure all will be good once we adjust. I’m more nervous for him than anything.
Best of luck to your partner with the new job, and to you for adapting to his new schedule!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Hello everyone, hope you’re all okay this week. Today was a much better work day than I was expecting, and to
elevate things further, my Shalimar MVP found its way to my door and it is beautiful-so much closer to actual Shalimar than the Souffle, Souffle Intense and Souffle de Lumière-and almost like velvet. Who knew Shalimar could be so soft and still so Shalimar? ?
Oh yay, enjoy your new bottle!
Trying YSL Tuxedo today from a generous NSTer and it has oomph. Peppery, green vanilla and patchouli to my nose so far with lots going on…. 🙂
I hope you’re liking it. It is supposed to be vintage although I have no clue from how long ago.
Blood test twins Robin ( how often do you get to say that ?!) and then off to a film with my son. I enjoyed The Hand of God , but not as much as my son enjoyed it. Touches of Fellini’s Armacord , I think, in some scenes ( large outdoor table/ meal) and the characters ( exaggerated) . Wearing Black Opium Neon which has at least one other fan (Ede) and enjoying it.
Oh glad to see your review! Mr Dolce is a huge Maradona fan and we both love Sorrentino’s style (I think I know that scene from Amarcord-and there are a lot worse things than being a Fellini knock-off so I view this as further encouragement ?) I hope you have enjoyed your film festival adventures so far, it sounds wonderful (and I too was once able to watch 3 films a day at the annual film festival during my student days but ach that was a long time ago in terms of back pain and other ailments). I hope Memoria eventually shows up here too, his films are incredible and they make me see what cinema is as an art form (as opposed to being just another story on a screen) so thank you for that review as well ?
The Fellini touch makes perfect sense because Hand of God is autobiographical and so him becoming a film maker is intrinsic to the story. I think I prefer his film Youth though, or A Great Beauty. More films today and tomorrow. My son is really enjoying the big screen cinema/ theatre experience rather than a multiplex. He’s too young to remember when grand theatres were the norm. I am old enough to remember having to stand for God Save the Queen before every screening, and intermissions of course. I miss shorts before the main feature and think they should be shown before film festival main features. At least we don’t have trailers.

The theatre we are going to
I’ve only watched two Fellini films, Amarcord and La Dolce Vita, I loved them both but Amarcord in particular. The delightful absurdity of Fellini’s universe.
Wonderful, thank you!
Hey, not often!
Happy Monday, everyone!
I’m in Laboratorio Olfattivo Sacreste: spices, incense and woods on me.
Bundt Cake Day! I have two bananas on the counter waiting to be transformed into jacked up banana bread. Maybe I’ll just make a bundt cake!
I’m taking a trip down memory lane. My mom made a caramel nut pound cake as a bundt countless times and it was so yummy. It wasn’t a particularly photogenic cake (we weren’t concerned about that in the 70’s), but man, was it good. ??
Banana Bundt – I like the sound of it!
The funny thing is, the hubster helped himself before I had a chance to glaze it. It popped out of the pan just fine, and I said, “oh, it’s pretty!” I turned my back on it and the next thing I knew, he’d sliced into it. He thought I’d said, “oh, it’s ready.” We had a good chuckle over it.
Said cake is now under surveillance. ?
Maybe it’s better without the glaze? ?
It could be! I never glaze it when I bake it in a loaf pan, which is almost always.
We used to make a glazed lemon cake in a bundt pan. Boy, I probably have not used my bundt pan in 20 years. Still have it though!
Monday!
1) After my workout, will be in a spritz of Cloud Intense!
2) Started the holiday job at the hardware store- really good people, a tad bit sore from standing all day on a concrete surface. Really fun, to be honest. I will need to re arrange hours somewhat for Thanksgiving, but that will be easy! They want to give me all the hours, which I appreciate!
2a) Am waiting back on the results of two interviews from last week- I really vibed with both, and I really would like to work at least one place!
3) I FINALLY, FINALLY saw new Dune adaptation- and I was in tears. As someone who first read the novel when I was 14 years old, and now in the 40s club- this was the adaptation that the novel deserved.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.
(OMG they have Benjamin Clemetine as the Imperial Herald! The metaphor of the bull and matador! so much more OMG OMG SQUEE)
That’s great about your new job and Good to hear Dune is brilliant. Can’t wait to see it.
Best of luck both for the holiday job and the interviews results.
Not that you asked my opinion on footwear, but Brooks and Asics (I think the Nimbus line) have well-cushioned options. Have been tempted off & on by Hoka One One, but still haven’t tried them. Am excited on your behalf that you get a discount at a hardware store!
Thank you for this heads up!
I am so looking forward to seeing Dune. I read it when I was 13, after 2 summers of drought in a row. Needless to say, the book had a huge impact! I’ve always been of the opinion that it can’t be adapted to screen, since so much of the action happens inside characters’ heads. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about this one, so I’m willing to try it.
The shifting perspectives- sometimes in the same paragraph!- is a bear to write for a play and to develop for characters. Plus there is a lot of dense worldbuilding. Villenueve, Roth et al knew EXACTLY what to leave out and what to leave in. Plus the shift of omniscient narrator from Irulan to Chani make a HUGE difference in how all of the movie is presented.
I really hope you see this- especially as someone who knows the book really well!
Hooray! All of those things are so great.
I will second galbanumgirl…take your footwear seriously! Years of waitressing on tile floors taught me a few lessons 🙂
I’m in Feu Secret today. The slight plastic-y note I thought I caught last time is gone and FS is blasting iris and incense today, much to my delight. The sun has been peeking out and ducking back under the clouds all morning, trying to lure me outside for another round of brush clearing, but I have errands to run and can’t go out to play in the yard. Sigh.
You did smell too good for errands today, SheriG!
Once again, racing by to say I’ve chosen Fort and Manle’s Amber Absolutely for the day.
I love that one. It’s on my wishlist.
I was in Diorling all day, very jasminey and soft leather but tonight it’s Les Néréides Imperial Opoponax which is doing its drydown of Shalimar usual thing, and testing Dia on my hand.
Had one sniff of Diorling years ago and fell in love, but it doesn’t seem to be around anymore, alas!
So sorry you can’t get it anymore Annie, I’m in Europe where bottles still float around.
Diorling is one of the great, gone but not forgotten leather perfumes.
Bundt cake day! I am a sucker for bundt pans, I have so many. Christmas pans, Thanksgiving pans, and generic fancy pans. Mini’s and fulls. Anyone got a favorite bundt recipe I should try?
SOTD is about to be Penofin. No, that’s not a new perfume brand, it’s a deck stain. I won’t be able to smell anything else for days.
Ah, so “not” the latest from Slumberhouse …
That’s a very avant-garde scent!
I can send you my mom’s caramel nut pond cake recipe. ?
Well, I know you don’t want pond cake. Pound cake maybe?
Hugely rainy day today, and a windy period is promised for the afternoon. Staying snug in L’Autre Oud as I slowly work at the decant – two spritzes is plenty.
Hope you kept power, AnnieA! (Or maybe you’re lucky and live someplace where you keep power even in high winds.)
Hi all,
Test was negative! Woohoo!
I think I mentioned that the CVS person wasn’t really guiding me and I was nervous it was done correctly. I watched the CVS video and the test wasn’t done like that. ? I had trouble breathing the next few days, but I feel like I’m not running back to bed again.
Does insurance cover another test? I just don’t want to go to see my mother-in-law if there is any chance I have it.
Another day, maybe, I’ll have the courage of cazaubon.
Bitter Peach. I will make it through my travel spray. It is that good.
So glad you got the all clear. Hope you can have a relaxing day.
Thank you so much. It has been a nice day. Hope yours has been, as well.
So happy to hear it!
Thank you!
Glad it came out negative! I know this is the opposite of what prompted you to be tested to begin with but how horrible would it be to wear your mask when you go visit her?
She will take offense to that. I’d definitely do it, preferably not go. I was hoping to get tested before going, just to make sure.
That’s too bad. I am hearing that people are planning their Thanksgiving get-together and some are asking guests to be masked. If it were me, I say don’t even bother having the get-together. We were hoping to get takeout again this year but that option is no longer available. We will just be there early enough to avoid the crowds.
And I meant to mention that I got TF Bitter Peach with the Sephora sale!
I’m so glad to hear the test was negative!
You and hajusuuri are making me want to try Bitter Peach.
Glad to hear that your results were negative. Maybe now you can have a little peace of mind?
I’m so happy your test was negative.
Glad to hear your test came back negative!
So glad your test results are negative!
Lattedoro for me today. Such a wonderful fall scent
Wow, that really does sound cozy.
We’ barely had a “cold” snap and now it’s back up to 80 in the afternoons this week. Actually I don’t mind it as it’s pleasant to be out with a little more air circulation and lower humidity. I even sat on a restaurant patio outside yesterday for my late (Turkish) lunch. And I’m going out with a friend tonight (just for a good true Italian pizza). I still don’t feel very mobile, and driving is tough (especially when your right knee doesn’t bend), but I’ve resolved to get out more because being cooped up was having a very bad effect on me. My SOTD is Coco EdP which I selected while browsing some perfume shelves with my less-used bottles. I do love Coco but it’s just not the kind of scent I want to wear all that often. I sprayed a mist and walked through it because I know how potent it can be. Splendid! I’d forgotten how very spicy it is, and am enjoying the journey.
I completely hear you about being cooped up. It’s not good for my state of mind either.
Your meals out sound delicious. May I ask where you’re getting your pizza?
La Griglia on W. Gray. We shared a simple margherita pizza and also a delicious burrata salad with arugula and asparagus. Yum.
Thanks Calypso!
Glad you are able to at least get out and enjoy yourself! Hope the pizza is everything it should be 🙂
Thank you, Robin, it was delicious!
Feeling sophisticated and elegant in Courrège’s Empreinte. A grey and rainy day, but not too cold.
Even just the name is sophisticated and elegant 🙂
I’m wearing Musk Deer today. I stopped at an Asian bakery and bought a bread that has something that looks like brown shredded carpet fibers on top. I’m sure it will be delicious, there is ham and cheese too. I like trying unfamiliar foods.
I cracked up at your perfect description of that bread! It’s “pork floss”, a dried shredded pork. My son loves it. It’s so wonderful that you’re an adventurous eater!
It was yummy!
SOTD = Scents of Wood Praline in Maple
It’s a quietish scent and I’ll have to wear it one more time. I liked what I smelled. Of course now, I think I am smelling Viscious Cacao from Maison Tahiti which smells very good.
In other news, remember when I said I decided not to get the Guerlain Advent Calendar? You can guess what happened with an approximately 18% discount (the darn taxes). I’ll have to see how it looks in person and decide if I will open a door daily or empty it out so I can use the hive as another type of advent calendar. I’ll probably split a portion of the contents.
???!
You can resist anything except temptation, right?
This is so true!
I should talk… I found something interesting on the Internets last night and am trying to resist it!
Hajusuuri!! I just googled the Guerlain Advent Calendar because of You – it is sooooo cute!!!!!! Enjoy it!!
Thank you. The Bergdorfs SA texted me and mentioned an upcoming gift card event. It did not take me long to decide!
Aha! The enabler behind the enabler!
Enjoy and send photos! 🙂
Woo hoo! That’s a gorgeous calendar.
Thank you. We only live once, right?
Yay! I am glad you got it.
Thanks. I should get it on Thursday!
Have you noticed a slowdown in delivery times since the beginning of the month?
UPS keeps changing delivery times but USPS and FedEx were fine.
I’m in Habanita EDP. It’s really perfect for this grey afternoon.
Robin, I spent a long time staring at today’s photo, trying to decipher it. I would’ve never guessed the moon!!
I thought it was a spectacularly moldy orange section ??♀️
ACK! Phbbbbbbbt! ?
I wouldn’t have guessed either! And yet after I read the description, I had a vague memory…I might have used a similar photo here in the past. Who can remember, ha!
Running late twins with Robin! ?♀️ However today has been productive, so I guess that is a point in my favor.
SOTD = Terracotta Le Parfum. I needed something to offset the chilly, gloomy Monday weather. It worked!
You smell wonderful Jalapeno!
Thanks lillyjo!
It’s uphill from here for the next few days!
We might get to near 70?! ? Back on the weather roller coaster again…
Perfect choice!
Oh my gooooodnesss!! A package from the kindest NSTer (You know who You are!!) just arrived!! What is in it? Maybe easier to ask what is NOT in it. Frim Serge Lutens, to Amouage, Hermes, House of Sillage, Atelier Cologne, Frederic Malle to name a few…. So many beautiful samples to try, my heart is still beating so fast!! Thank You!!
Yay for perfume packages!
Wearing Lake today. It’s an amazing cool day and I’ve been loving the crisp air.
We had a cold sun dappled day today!
SOTD is Maison Tahite Vicious Cacao and I am really liking it. This is a good boozy chocolate. I get a hint of the raspberry and red pepper, which give it a touch of brightness, and I get a bit of the BR 540 saffron-jasmine-amber thing, but mostly it is boozy chocolate.
I’ve been drinking chocolate puer to go with it.
I liked the Viscious Cacao mich better than Cacao Squared.
Same here. Cinnamon rarely works for me.
Chocolate and raspberry is a GREAT combination! ?
So good!
Super late! I did the sephora sale after work. I got my daughter a Too Faced lip and bronzer kit. It’s so cute, the bronzer has a picture of a cup of hot chocolate on it.
Sotd is Organza.
Sounds cute and you smell great!
You two just made it under the wire! ??
Now to find a hiding place for your Sephora goodies until Xmas!
