Happy Almost-Friday and happy International Animation Day. Birthdays today: Erasmus, Levi Coffin, Auguste Escoffier, Edith Head, Evelyn Waugh, Jonas Salk. What fragrance are you wearing?
My day 4 of Pumpkin Spice week: clove and cinnamon, in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz's lovely Souvenir de Malmaison.
Reminder: on 10/29, we're celebrating Pumpkin Spice season...wear a fragrance featuring any or all of the elements (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, allspice, & etc).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in I Profumo di Firenze Spezie de’ Medici, a pomander of bright citrus, soft rounded spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger, says Fragrantica, which sounds about right), and, a couple of hours later, warm sugared vanilla. It’s so simple and so beautiful. I swiped some onto the inside of my mask so I could smell it all day at work.
ohhhhhh you must smell delicious!
Perfect! And I have a sample of that, so I will join you.
Tea: Upton Christmas Tea, which has a lot in common with Spezie de’ Medici
That Christmas Tea is a nice one.
That Christmas tea is wonderful. My usual store in SF didn’t have it so now I’m on the hunt for some. I’m thinking maybe Target? 🙂
That tea sounds delicious!
Pyramus – I don’t know if you have a Sprouts near you, but they had a Pumpkin Spice essential oil blend by Now and a Sprouts Pumpkin spice room spray, both are spectacular.
I miss my bottle of Spezie — such a great scent.
*Deep virtual sniff*
Glorious. You smell glorious.
SOTD is Sycamore. We went from cold and rain to warm, so not feeling the spices today.
Booster shot after work!
Good luck with your booster.
I am pondering the farsi lessons you recommended. That is a culture I am obsessed with..
yes, it’s a beautiful, intriguing country, culture, language, history, food.
I am sorry a generation of westerners didn’t see it that way.
Are you familiar with Azam Ali? She is a singer, born in Iran, moved to India as child due to the unrest in Iran, and I think now lives here. Many of her songs are traditional middle eastern songs and poems in Farsi. She has solo work and has also worked with different bands. Her catalog is amazing! She has a whole album of Middle Age songs sung in their original language as well as English and or course Farsi. Amazingly talented! I’ve been a fan for over 20 years.
Here she is singing with Niyaz. She is now married to Loga Ramin Torkian- the guy playing the stringed instrument.

Deva,
She is great. I love Persian music and films.
We call parts of Los Angeles Tehrangeles. There is a Persian Square in Beverly Hills.
I go to Persian film festivals. I was young enough and curious enough to soak it all in.
Good luck with the booster!
Thanks! need to work tomorrow hope no or minimal side effects.
Didn’t get to Sycamore – my hand made a right turn and landed on Tea for Two.
Good luck with your booster! I should have mentioned when whining yesterday that I am particularly sensitive to medicines of all kinds. Hope you feel great!
I am a whiner so it’s all good.
Best of luck with your booster shot!
Bruno Acampora Musc, with its hint of clove.
Great call.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Old Spice, and smelling of carnations with nutmeg, star anise and cinnamon in the mix. Love!
Love indeed! Old Spice is so so good.
We are vague cousins 🙂
Old Spice is literally one of those that is just underrated- and yes, it’s made fun of, but it smells damned good.
Love the mix of birthdays today. Philosophy, philanthropy, food, fashion, literature and science. Perfect.
Isn’t it! Robin has an eye and taste for sure!
You guys are sweet, but it’s just a good birthday day 🙂
Robin I love how you have been sticking to the CP all week
2 cappuccinos and 2 toast with peanut butter for breakfast. Must be the change in temperature, I am so hungry!
SOTD Zen Shiseido
Joining you with two cappuccinos. Another good night’s sleep but I didn’t want to wake up.
Ohhh, and Zen is so beautiful! I love the old bottles, simple and elegant.

L2SG, I forgot to mention, your comment regarding Prince Lotor intrigued me, Voltron looks like an interesting series! I’ve dabbled with anime on and off, any recommendations?
I liked Voltron, also The Dragon Prince, Avatar, and Carmen SanDiego
For Voltron I only like the episodes with Lotor in them 😉 His accent/voice and he is a villain…
Add another voice/vote for Avatar, as well as for Korra, the series after it.
L2SG – thanks! I will definitely check those out! And I agree, I do like Lotor’s accent. 🙂
I’m like everybody else: I do the cp when it’s easy and/or it works with the weather and what else I’m doing. Wearing a bunch of spice fragrances in October is not a chore 🙂
SOTD is generous sprays of Theorema by Fendi. I’m going to smell good on the stair master today! 🙂
Watching Dopesick, a mini-series about the opioid epidemic. Very good, but perhaps I shouldn’t watch it before bed time. Restless dreams.
Joining L2SG with two cups of cappuccino.
House twins!
You smell awesome!
So do you!
I’m building towards a Theorema crescendo this week…
More Theorema sounds good! I’m all about the spices and resins.
I had my cappuccino with whole milk, which I usually do almond. It was a completely different taste.
It’s amazing how many non-dairy choices we have at the grocery store. For variety, I like to use different milks. I’d say the more I get away from regular dairy, soy is probably my favorite and cashew a close second. I think it’s also a texture thing, it’s super creamy.
I love whole milk, it doesn’t love me
I will try cashew
WOw! You smell amazing!
Coco edp for the cloves, which according to Fragrantica is the only pumpkin pie spice in the mix, but might be my favorite. I always double the clove portion in my pies and have been know to just pop a clove bud in my mouth to enjoy the savor and sensations. Happy Thursday, all – rainy and cool here.
Okay, I have to ask if you ever smoked clove cigarettes ?
That was my first thought as well!
Fair question! I used to smoke ciggies and knew about Indonesian clove cigarettes, but seem to remember that there was some warning that they might not be subject to stringent quality control standards, and might have “dangerous” impurities. So I stuck with Salem 100’s – so healthy. 🙁
Clove oil and cinnamon oil used to be used as analgesics in dentistry until not very long ago. I remember those being recommended as remedies for the dreaded “dry socket” after I had some impacted wisdom teeth removed.
Weather and craving lined up to CP participation – I’m in Fendi.
When I sprayed it, it struck me that this is a very austere perfume. Spices, yes; cozy PSL-style spices, no.
You smell fabulous! Enjoy the waft!
I have a day off work and a few minutes to myself as the baby is at her daycare. Of course in times like this I am thinking of perfume LOL. I jist realized my nose is getting very sophisticated. A few days ago I wore my sample of Lancome’s Oud Bouquet (luckily I ordered two) and I remember it smelled like… Chocolate pralines to me. Today was the first time I actually read it’s list of notes and couldn’t believe… One of thw notes is a “signature rose-praline” accord. I was so right
Enjoy your free time today!
And training the nose is not as hard as people think.
By which I meant — you’re doing great! Did not mean that comment as diminishing your accomplishment.
I smell the praline in OB, but still can’t smell any rose. I keep trying though.
That is inspiring! I know my nose is better than it used to be, and my sense of smell has always been better than many friends’, but I cannot reliably link notes to words.
It’s fun finding out that yes, you did pick a note out of a perfume!
In SL Feminite du Bois, which is full of cinnamon, clove, ginger and cardamom.
Mom had surgery yesterday and is in the ICU, very weak. The next 72 hours are very critical, so we hope she can start showing some improvement soon.
Craving for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. It has been years since I stepped in a Starbucks so I planning to walk there in a few. My coffee consumption will be high today. I am very sleepy and the day at work seems endless.
Happy almost Friday! ☕☕??
Fingers crossed…really hope things go great today.
Great, big hugs, PL67. Enjoy that latte. Sending love and light to your mom right now.
Sending you warmth and hugs and keeping my fingers crossed for her!
I’ll be thinking of you and sending lots of healing vibes to your mother! I hope the latte and work will be a good distraction.
I thought of this one earlier but then forgot to put on any perfume all day. Wearing it now, and my thoughts are with you.
Sending hugs and healing vibes!
Sending good wishes to you and your mom.
Sending lots of love to you and your mum, and family.
Thinking of you and sending love!
Sending thoughts and healing wishes for your mother.
I hope she makes a full recovery! ❤️?
Sending lots of love and gentle hugs to you today, pl67.
sending good energy for both of you.
Sending hugs (if you want them) and healing vibes your way. Enjoy that latte!
The best well wishes for your mom!
We are house twins today?
Sending good healing thoughts to you and your mom.
Sending you and your Mom healing thoughts today.
Joining the chorus of love!
Sending all my best wishes to your mom.
Good to hear that your Mom is out of surgery and recovering. Sending more vibes of strength and healing to you, her, and your family.
I am sort of CP compliant in Twilly for the ginger. I can never decide if I like this or if I find it irritating.
I feel like that about all the Twillys! I love Hérmes in general but there are a few which I definitely find irritating-Citron Noir and the recent Lagune come to mind-but the Twillys-I just don’t know. Maybe that’s a“no” in disguise?
These are my thoughts exactly. Love Hermes I’m general, but that Lagune was grating, and I won’t need more Twilly when my sample runs dry.
Twins today!
It’s a lovely sunny day & a comfortable 70 degrees here in Pasadena. I’m wearing vintage Dune by Dior. It’s warm and spicy. I had a great time at Scent Bar DTLA yesterday. (I had already been to the Scent Bar on Beverly several times during past visits to LA so I’d wanted to check out the DT branch). We were the only ones in the shop and the lovely Molly was helpful, sweet, and generous with free samples. There was so much to discover.
I bought just one bottle of Rogue Perfumery Flos Mortis- an indolic floral. Less than two days left in Pasadena before I take the red eye back to NJ tomorrow night. ?
So happy to see you in vintage Dune! I wore this in my teens and have a wonderful memory of it, which is not even remotely connected to the current version. The closest I’ve found is, oddly enough, the opening to Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, but only when I sniff the bottle and not when I spray it…so it remains a memory ?
The vintage is great, I’ve actually never smelled the new formulation so I can’t really judge it. But all those vintage reformulations are just shells of their selves. Ingredient restrictions being what they are now….
Wearing PdN Poudre de Musc Intense today…a beautiful floral musk.
PdN seems to fly a bit under the radar
This morning I put on a sweater that I’ve worn a couple of times already this week, and the sleeves smelled so delicious! Couldn’t place which perfume I was smelling; just a snuggly blend of all those overlapping spices.
Safran troublant today, which smells more like kulfi than pumpkin pie, but there’s a significant Venn diagram overlap. After our crazy deluge, it’s warmed back up into the 70s here with rich blue skies and golden leaves everywhere. Heading out into the muddy woods with a colleague from another conservation agency who I’ve always secretly wanted to be friends with, so should be a lovely hike and some quality girl-time.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you have a lovely quality time!
You smell fabulous!
Your day sounds perfect. I guess there must be a lot of mushrooms around now in the woods?
It’s a bit early yet, but if we get several more rains over the next month the mushrooms should start happening. Early rains are good for porcini around here, and then the chanterelles will start coming up as soon as the woods attain a certain level of sustained dampness and keep going as long as the rainy season does. And we have plenty of recently burned areas in which to hunt morels in the spring!
I used to live in the Jura in France and was lucky to be in an area with morels in April ( maybe the limestone rich environment, or numerous ash trees helped). I have never found them here, nor chanterelles but I keep looking.Have a lovely time. Woodpeckers??
I once read a real estate listing for a property in France that talked about the property having boletes, and I thought, *how civilized*, that enough people would value something like that to warrant including it in a property ad! Oodles of woodpeckers right now — they love the burned forests.
Hope that you had plenty of good weather and good company today!
It was pretty great, and ridiculously warm — I think the vitamin D batteries are all charged up!
Chanel La Pausa
Love this…you smell wonderful!
Heart of my hearts…probably still my all-time favorite. You smell exquisite.
I might be peaking today, CP-wise. Wearing a cinnamon-colored turtleneck and a pumpkin, spice and sage plaid flannel shirt, and scented with Nanadebary Bronze, which is all cinnamon and other sweet spices. Happy Friday Eve, all!
Yum! That all sounds so cozy and CP-perfect. It’s been so long since I’ve heard mention of Nandebary! I don’t think I’ve ever tried the Bronze, only the original.
I like the original too – it’s more cardamom-y and possibly more interesting as a perfume – but Bronze is the one that called my name. So cozy-spicy!
Sipping scalding coffee and thinking about breakfast. That’s as far as I’ve gotten this morning. Also, wafting the spicy wonder of PG Indochine.
The drive through the I5 corridor this week was amazing! The colors seem to be at their peak. Some trees that were early changers are now starting to lose their leaves completely. I saw a couple of my favorites- trees that are bright yellow to deep golden proximally and flame orange to deep burgundy distally. Some even have a bit of green on the very inner leaves. They remind me of the images of the Burning Heart of Jesus which I first saw in Ireland (every cottage had one or more back in the day) at age 4 and scared me to death.
Just a STUNNING fall this year. So happy I’m in an area that puts on such a great show. ?
Oh Deva I know that image so well-you’ve made me weirdly homesick ?
The Flaming Heart of Jesus or the fall trees? Either way, hope you’re homesick in the best way possible. ?
HAHAHHAHAHAAH good one.
BTW you smell great.
?? thank you!
Gosh, how wonderful. Are you in Montana?
Ha, no, I think Montana is already dealing with snow and frigid temps. I’m in Oregon in the Umpqua Valley. Mild winters here, I hope similar to the Willamette Valley just a bit north of me. I’ve wintered there twice. Quite a few wineries here, and tons of hiking, but sadly most of the trails are closed due to this past season of fires. This area was heavily impacted and heart wrenching to see.
Sounds so beautiful. The copper beech in my neighbour’s garden has just opened, so bright red at the moment.
Indochiiiiiiine … you smell amazing.
That sounds wonderful! We’re going on two months of pretty sustained fall color at this point — it’s been a gloriously beautiful fall. And I’ve heard tell that the dogwoods in the Sierras are at their peak (or were before the recent snow).
Gorgeous leaves here for me, too. But tomorrow is supposed to bring a storm that could bring a lot of them down. Just when the color was getting really good.
That’s always such a bummer! I expected more would come down in our recent storm, but most held on.
Commando so far, but I probably won’t be joining in the CP today since I don’t have any spicy scents with me at work. My scent-sensitive old coworker is going to swing by for lunch and to see my new office. So, maybe I’ll spritz on a very light scent or else wait until she leaves to really go for it!
I tried my new bottle of Shalimar MVP the other night. It is lovely and very very vanillic (duh!). I might be one of the few though, who prefer Philtre to MVP. But MVP is surprisingly long lasting (much more so than Philtre), I could smell it on me the next morning. I’m very happy to have my little bottle but also a bit relieved that I don’t feel the need for a backup, considering how elusive this one is!
Glad that you like your new bottle and are happy with the amount you have. Perfume contentment is a wonderful thing!
I am wafting lots of Agent Provocateur, not CP compliant, but I love this in the colder season. Biked again today, because the weather was cold, but gloriously sunny and the fall colors are so beautiful.
Dinner was some linguine with chards, fried breadcrumbs and canned sardines, a really great combination anf a fast dinner too.
Ooh, your pasta sounds delightful! What kind of sardines, and do you put them in whole?
I fry the breadcrumbs in the oil of the sardines, if they are toasted I crumble the sardines into them.

Robin, some links to those mobile unit broadcasts from yesterday. You can search anything but I did ‘ Mobile Broadcast Unit’ and then an interview from them made in 1948 with a 96 year old woman in Dunedin, so she talks about her parents arrival in 1848 and her childhood etc. but on the site Ngataonga Sound and Vision you can find old film clips, recordings, anything.
Not quite dawn but the birds are chattering and singing. I am in traces of Confetti, a nice candied violet that I might buy (Lush) . I quite like Lush and Smell Bent for a bit of interest, rough and ready. I tried issey Miyake A Drop (?) yesterday which was interesting, slightly weird but with one off kilter note.
Candied violets! I’ll have to look into this (and hope it’s not discontinued.)
Yep, no dice (unless you’re in Australia. )
Moves on…
I have Lush Confetti. I can also recommend Olfactive Studio Violet Shot, which I like better than Iris Shot, imagine that!
Huge thanks, Kanuka, I don’t understand what I did wrong yesterday. Listened to a couple songs and will spend some time this weekend listening to more music plus some of the oral history pieces, this looks fascinating.
I’m in Twilly today for the ginger note. This is such an uncomplicated perfume, some might call it boring, but some days you want uncomplicated. It’s windy, warm (for nearly November) and humid today so Twilly is a good choice. It doesn’t hold up for me in cold temperatures.
Never anything wrong with an easy-t-wear perfume
Will be Serge 5 o’clock au Gingembre today post MD appt. I’m on brand with the CP for once! Rainy and cool.
I am thinking of what to do for the CP tomorrow. Hope your MD appts goes smooth
Thanks–me, too! I always get nervous before any medical appointment, whether I should or not. I think tomorrow will be Fendi Theorema for me.
You smell spicy and fabulous! I hope the MD appointment goes well and you aren’t swept away in the current deluge!
Fingers crossed that your appointment went well today!
Hello All!
1) SOTD: Creme Brule from LM.
2) It has been a mild and very rainy week, so my cases of SAD has kicked in. Keeping at bay with projects!
3) Did an interview for a contract job and they topped out BELOW the salary range I was considering. I am not mad about it, but it gives me an idea of what people think they should get for experience and skills, and what they need to start considering.
good luck on interviews. I will roll off the house of many fragrances in January and am lining up next project. Some recruiters are coming in at the right rate but the others are like…no way.
Right!
So it is a matter of patience and timing.
Boo to the low-ball offer
Exactly!
I find it maddeningly stupid how rarely are salaries, or range of salaries posted in job descriptions. Why should an applicant have to guess?
And why should an applicant even have to ask?
And why do they get rid of experienced full-timers and then hire contract staff at a much higher cost?
This is nursing in the US. Get rid of very seasoned personnel and hire new grads with zero experience for half the cost or hire temp travel nurses like me. Overall, the hospital saves money by not paying year round salaries of nurses who have hit the pay raise ceiling and avoiding the cost of medical insurance for those temps. Just read an article that most staff nurse last less than 3 years at bedside. Plus, as a staff RN you’re treated like crap. I’ll probably never be staff anywhere again. Get paid crap wages, get treated like crap, and have to put up with all the bureaucracy and BS only to get your salary cut in the midst of a pandemic while management gets bonuses and CEO’s rake in huge salaries. No thanks.
This was my mom’s experience as an RN – despite experience, knowledge and compassion, she was treated badly as a staff nurse. Once she hit 20 years she was fired. She then started doing contract work and came to enjoy it because she realized she could stop after a contract, and have a full summer off- despite being begged to stay for NYC summers.
With this position and what it entails I understood what I should be paid. But recruiters are given a budget and are being asked to find people to do things to do within the budget range. So part of the so called labor shortage is really reluctance to pay people to do skilled work, and a refusal by people to be overworked and underpaid.
Did the job come with health benefits? If yes, gross it up by 20% (but will check on this tomorrow) for the true rate.
No- this was a 9 month contract with no PTO, no insurance.
Ugh. I recently passed on a job opportunity that would have been a perfect fit for me and a step up in terms of roles and responsibilities, so a nice promotion, but the salary offered would be a pay cut. I do see a lot of aiming high while offering low in the job market around here, and it’s a bummer.
Oh yes- lots of responsibility, but no compensation for same.
Wearing Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue, an innocuous office scent. I probably could be in an obnoxious non-office scent today, as there’s only one, pro-perfume person here today…
Lol @ pro-perfume ☺
Opportunity missed but you smell delightful!
I’m wearing Amouage Journey Woman, with strong notes of nutmeg and cardamom, apricot and honey, and some saffron in the mix. One of you fabulous folk swapped this my way at some point. I should wear it more, because the initial hour is just fantastic on me. IIRC, something about the dry down doesn’t work as well, but right now I’m in the honeymoon phase, and I smell delicious.
I think I have a bottle of this, also from a swap!
In Caleche today, and having a busy day–everything from a doctor’s appointment (routine, fine) to a flu shot, to two crises at work. Break’s over, back to the madness!
Well, you smell calm, cool, collected & classy! TGIAF
Wow, hope that you can relax tonight!
I’m wearing SL Cedre today. I mostly smell honey and tuberose. I wish I would have worn something less big though, because I have a headache.
Sorry to hear that you have a headache today lillyjo. ??
Thanks Jalapeno. I can’t wait to get out of work and go to bed.
Ugh! Sorry about the perfume overload! I’ve had that where you can’t get away from it no matter how much scrubbing you do.
Oh oh! I hope the headache went away quickly!
It’s been a most excellent almost-Friday! It was a beautiful sunny day, and I had a hair appointment today for both a cut and highlights. Life is good.
SOTD = back in Tibetan Mountain Temple. Bottles of this are going for $250 to $300 on evilBay! Unbelievable.
Yay for a good day!
Thanks for the enabler pin, btw.?
Thanks, and you’re welcome!
That’s an awesome day! New hair is the best.
Thank you!
Seriously? That’s more than 10x the cost of a new bottle! You smell great, of course. And new hair is ?!
I could not believe my eyes when I saw the first price for TMT so I checked out a different link. Absolutely crazy.
So glad I got the hair cut today when the weather was nice!
Was very disappointed that Pacifica relaunched lots of the old ones, but not this.
I’m wearing Kiehl’s Musk today since it was mentioned earlier this week. I applied the hajusuuri-8-spray patented count. It smells pretty good today.
I’m getting together with 2 work friends tomorrow for lunch. We are all quite excited as it’s been over a year since we’ve seen one of them!
Enjoy tomorrow!
Thanks lillyjo! I’m really looking forward to it!
Your plans for tomorrow sound like fun! Enjoy!
Thank you, I sure will!
Enjoy your lunch tomorrow!
Thank you! It’s crazy that one can be so thrilled about a lunch get-together.
Started the day by just barely walking through a light mist of Chanel Cuir de Russie — it’s what I wanted to wear but was afraid it wouldn’t behave well in the classroom. Once I got home, hours later, I topped it with two solid sprays of Muscs Koublai Khan.
Good thinking!
SOTD = Guerlain Ginger Picante
Spicy!!! ❤️

And, after being lazy about walking (blame it on the weather people, plus working late to finish stuff), I finally went out walking today and was rewarded with 2 more houses with Halloween decors. These two houses had them last year but they waited almost until the last minute to put them out! The pumpkin coach and the ghost pumpkin were deflated when I passed by them but I decided to double-back after 6PM and I was rewarded!

Cool decorations!
I noticed more people decorating around here. The most popular one is a giant skeleton that looks to be as tall as a house ( from the street)
I prefer the less scary decorations though.
Decorations seem more varied this year!
WAY more people decorating in my town, and more elaborate than I’ve ever seen.
On our evening walk tonight, even saw a skeleton sitting in the passenger seat of an SUV parked on the street. Admit that freaked me out for a sec.
Glad to see that some people are decorating for Halloween. I haven’t seen any of that in my neighborhood yet.
My townhouse neighborhood is barely decorated but around the back, the single family homes tend to be more decorated. I am hoping the Christmas decorations are more over the top than last year!
SotD was delicious Oud Bouquet for me today.
Hope it was a good day!
Safran Troublant for me today, folks. Apparently it has ginger, vanilla, and cardamom which surely falls into some pumpkin spice territory but I mainly just wanted to wear it, ha!
TGIT, ugh (I work 4/10 schedule so it’s my Friday). I started the week off strong but all that motivation faded today. I had about 5 company trainings, and web-based, due so I plowed through those but it didn’t help me with my sleepiness. Had a good workout this evening though so I’m having a beer and crashing now!
Hope you have a very relaxing long weekend KellyC!
Today the SJP Stash I wore yesterday lingered a while, so no new SOTD for me — but tomorrow I plan to take full CP points in Like This, as others have done this week! It’s just a great fragrance, full of spice and gingerbread, and, yes, pumpkin. You can read more about my reaction to it here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/07/01/scent-sample-sunday-like-this/. Happy almost-Friday!
