It's Monday, World Pasta Day and International Artist’s Day, aka Pablo Picasso's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm kicking off Pumpkin Spice week with Demeter Gingerale.
Reminder: on 10/29, we're celebrating Pumpkin Spice season...wear a fragrance featuring any or all of the elements (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, allspice, & etc).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks. Bonus reading: The Curious History Of Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte at Chatelaine, and It’s 2020: Why Is The Pumpkin Spice Latte Still Part Of The Zeitgeist? at Refinery29.
I’m in Shalimar MVP. Yes, I’m going to shamelessly copy hajusuuri on this abbreviated name because it works so well. 4 sprays and I think this is pretty soft for a Shalimar.
Today is day 5 of a 9 day work stretch so it’s downhill from here.? Today is also the first day of my new job and I’m attending a virtual welcome. It was nice to get up and get ready and not have to leave the house.?

Best of luck with the first day at the new job! ???
Thanks Jalapeño!
I’m kicking off Pumpkin Spice Week — since I have enough spicy scents to do a week and then some — with Tabu, which is thick with spices of all sorts, plus every other possible thing, and is *ridiculously* good despite being cheap as dirt: you could tell someone it was the newest $250 Tom Ford (he would call it Spice War, I think) and they’d have no reason to doubt you.
You absolutely could!
I’m glad you mentioned Tabu, since I actually bought a full bottle this year, and never thought of it for this week’s CP. Also, Old Spice would work, if you have it. I do, and I plan on wearing it.
Lol at Spice War?
I adore Tabu, it’s such glorious stuff! Enjoy the waft!
I have an embroidered hanky tucked away that was my mothers.
In her last years she wore Tabu almost daily.
You smell wonderful – would have been a copy cat if I’d seen this earlier! Lining up my bottle for tomorrow 😀
I’m not sure I’ve ever smelled Tabu. Crazy, considering that it used to be everywhere.
Starting the CP with Guerlain AA Ginger Piccante.
I am a big fan of Pumpkin Spice and I wish I could find a perfume that has just a prominent pumpkin note. I usually have fun with BBW shower gels and body lotions, which scents last better on my skin than the mists. I love their seasonal pumpkin and apple candles also. Trader Joe’s also has a nice pumpkin spice body butter and a pumpkin spice face mask that I buy every fall and I greatly enjoy, along with their candles.
This is a season where most of my food, snacks, desserts, etc are pumpkin spice flavored, from coffee, pasta sauce, bread, cereal, coffee, ice cream, etc and I add pumpkin spice seasoning to almost everything. Crazy, I know, but I deeply enjoy it! ???
Obviously you are not alone! Starbucks really started something big…
Absolutely! I just read the article that you linked. I didn’t know there was a pumpkin spice Spam!I will keep an eye on it next time I go grocery shopping.
Gosh. You are braver than I am.
?
Oh I would get that for sure – too crazy to resist!
Lol! Whoever gets it first, please comment!
I came so close to wearing Ginger Piccante…..
Almost twins!
I’m a big fan of pumpkin spice too, pl67. I made pumpkin bread last week, and might jack up some cinnamon sugar for toast as well.
My prayers are with you today, dear heart.
Thank you, Nancy! ?
I love pumpkin spice bread! I haven’t had the chance to bake anything this season. I got one from Trader Joe’s a couple of weeks ago, but it is not as good as the homemade one. With cinnamon sugar for toast, heavenly!
I just got a mailing list email from Dawn Spencer Horowitz, and she has a pumpkin forward scent she is pushing for the Halloween holiday. I am sort of a fan of some of her stuff, so you might check that out, if you like her sort of vintagy, dense approach to spicy perfumes…
Oh that’s good to know! Thanks for the info! I like many of her creations, so I will definitely look for her new pumpkin scent!
I like the bbw seasonal lotions too. They last all day.
That’s how I get my apple and pumpkin spice fix every year. They are fun and go a long way!
I recently had a Massaman curry at my local Thai place, and it tasted like they included all those pumpkin pie spices–more so than usual–they went heavy on the cinnamon for sure.
My ex mother-in- law makes a great Chicken Massaman and she always goes heavy on the start anise, cardamom and cinnamon. Much tastier that the regular Thai Massaman. Delish!
Demeter Pumpkin Pie is my go-to pumpkin spice scent — not sure if they still make it but it’s very yummy.
I have not tried the Pumpkin Pie from the line yet. I think is time!
How are things going with your family?
Thanks for asking, Jalapeno. Mom will have a very big and risky 5-6 hour surgery on Wednesday. She keeps deteriorating as days pass, but there was no other option. We are trying our best to be strong and in peace, which is not easy. Still hoping that she will come out of all this successfully. Praying for it.
Had a brief getaway with Mr L. Back and feeling refreshed.
I see I have missed all the Shalimar MVP splits at the split meet. Next time..
SOTD Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal
I smell like Honey
Sipping chai, homemade of course
Glad you had a good time ?
Thank you! It was very relaxing. Every once in awhile I need to get out of the city and do some “forest bathing”
Ohhh, JPG Scandal and time away with Mr L., that’s so nice! I’m envious of your home made chai, I might make some later today…
We had a great time. No affiliation but we went to this amazing place called Piaule, you can look it up, in the catskill mountains. They have individual cabins that are done in this Japanese style. Minimum decoration, focusing more on being in the woods. The price per night also included access to the spa pools and saunas and breakfast. Got in some amazing hiking and some amazing “alone time”
sans kids! wink wink
Also the floors were heated in the cabins..I love that.
Tomorrow is my last day of chai, off goes my FIL back to Canada.
Ohhh, how lovely! That sounds like a marvelous time away! I love the Japanese aesthetic and bringing the outdoors in. I will look into this, thanks so much!
Sounds utterly dreamy. You had me with “heated floors” ?
Wow, that looks gorgeous.
Very interested in this! I love the style of JPG but I don’t think I’ve ever actually tried any of his perfumes. Honey sounds good…
It’s very sweet, like honey but one spray has lasted the whole day. I was looking through my travel things and found this sample and a flanker
Tomorrow I was try the flanker and let you know
Will look out for that, thank you ?
Yesterday I wore Vanille d’ Iris; I was in the mood for something vanilla-y and pretty. One co-worker apparently agreed because she kept exclaiming how much she liked what I was wearing and actually thanked me for wearing it. I told her I would wear something nice today so I am going to go with Valentina.
Wow! It is so rare and wonderful for someone to thank you for wearing scent!
Lol, I know right? My perfume thing is quite well known at work and my co-workers are sometimes quite vocal about what they like and don’t like. I tell them that I have so many samples to choose from that some of them are going to be hits, some misses. But it’s nice to get the compliments.
the rain is coming to Socal today.
SOTD is Dzing! because Mondays are usually a circus of events.
Dzing! is a great choice for a Monday — sometimes you just have to embrace the circus!
thx!
I will be celebrating pumpkin spice week ALL week, because even though it’s not my favorite drink, they are some of my favorite notes. Today is a cinnamon bomb – Smell Bent’s Horny Little Devil. Pure cinnamon musk.
I agree with the notes and the drink. Horny Little Devil is another decant that I have that I didn’t think of for the CP. Thanks!
Oh, that sounds wonderful. Will have to add that to the sample list!
Direct from SB, their sample sizes are 4ml, which I appreciate!
I am probably the only person left on earth who has never had a pumpkin spice latte (?) Never even been tempted, really.
I only tried SBUX PSL because my most dear and sweet boss (and friend) liked them, and would get us each one on “opening day.” It’s the ginger – I only like certain Indian dishes with ginger. Otherwise it is yucky to me! But the latte was OK; I don’t like sweetened coffee too much, and that was the main issue I had with it, rather than the ginger.
Right. I don’t like sugar in coffee either, or in tea.
I would normally do ginger throughout the week for this CP, since it is one of my favorite notes. Today, however, I am starting off the week with cinnamon, wearing Jungle le Tigre, from a brand new decant. This has cinnamon at its base, but I can’t smell it. I do really like the fragrance. I don’t get any relation to L’Elephant.
I am going to try to hit all the spices, but we’ll see how I do.
Ahhh, Pumpkin Spice Week is gonna be fun! Starting out in Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers, which has some cinnamon and coriander. Will enjoy this sample one last time and send it on to its new home, with some other “friends”. ?
Hubster is headed into town for an ophthalmologist appointment today. He’s been having some strange symptoms, not at all frequently, but it’s time to get things checked out.
Fingers crossed for your husband!
Eek! Yes, fingers crossed for a good outcome!
Hope all goes well with your husband.
Hope the appointment goes well.
Good luck to Mr NL for the appointment.
Let us know!
Thanks, everyone! I’m hoping for good news. ??
I hope your husband’s appointment goes well.
Hope everything goes well with your husband.
Thinking of you and hope all goes well.
Fingers crossed that your husband’s appointment went well today.
Had a pretty chill, fun weekend. Did some yard work and stuff around the house, worked out. We actually went to the movies and had a little date night last night- first movie we went to since before COVID. It was exciting haha. I wore Geisha Noire because the hubs loves that one!
I’m in Dune today just because I was craving it.
Two favorite perfumes of mine, you smell great!
Did you watch the movie Dune? Sorry, I couldn’t resist! ?
Ha!
I need to search around for my Geisha scent. It’s that time of year.
You smell wonderful!
What movie ?
Oh I forgot to mention! The new Bond! Daniel Craig… ?
? ?
?
It’s a cold 57 degrees here in SoCal. The sky is dark and grey. It’s going to properly rain soon. ?“Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere; Stormy weather, stormy weather; And I just can’t get my poor self together; I’m so weary, wary all the time; Keeps rating all the time….”? I love that song- especially the Sarah Vaughan version. ⛈
Sticking with the 90s today and wearing Versace Blonde today. Big tuberose.
We did our best to wring the water out of the storm up here, but I’m sure it’s got plenty of clout left! Stormy Weather is a great song for a rainy day, and I also love It’s Raining by Irma Thomas.
Good taste in music!
we need the rain so much. It’s just that we don’t need it all at once.
I know we do but I return to NJ on Saturday and I can’t help but wish it would wait until then. We get plenty of rain and cold grey skies in NJ!
Sorry, Gian! I will wish for rain over my part of LA only.
Ahhhh! Saturday night I played every song I could think of relating to rain (from the Hollies “Bus Stop” to “Rainy Night in Georgia”–which included everyone from Neil Sedaka to Bob Dylan) but did not remember that one.
Now I’m remembering Adele’s Right As Rain ☔️
One of my friends in college made a mix tape (on CD probably) of rain songs! If I remember correctly, it included Purple Rain (Prince, of course), Blame it on the Rain (Milli Vanilli), November Rain (Guns n Roses), and other gems from the 80s and 90s.
Oh this sounds good. I was so happy to see you had a chance to wear Dior Dolce Vita at the weekend, one of my all-time favourites! I still have some from the 90s. Also very interested in your thoughts on Ysatis-I wear the current version but I can only imagine how wonderful it used to be. Thank you for sharing your holiday with us!
Ysatis was my favorite so far! The vintage is richer with indolic florals, warmer, & dirtier in the base. It had great pronounced Ylang Ylang note which I adore! Dolce Vita was great too. Paris was a strong powdery rose- too feminine for me to wear out and about.
I should have guessed- you named your avatar “Dolce Vita” duh! ?
Ha ha it’s definitely a reference to the perfume, but also because I want to be Italian, and happy, so this seemed a good choice ?
And I also have some 90s Paris in my collection-I don’t like the current version but the older bottles are a little more appealing.
Aedes Copal Azur today.
Please give me courage as tomorrow I have an online presentation in front of like 50 viewers and I only finished the presentation today because I was too busy last week to get onto it…
Bon courage, mon ami.
Oh, good luck, lucasai! You will be ready and you will be great!
Good luck! You will do wonderful, I am sure!
Good luck! You’re going to knock it out of the park!
Break a leg! You’ll do wonderful! Wear your most confidence-boosting perfume and you’ll be surrounded by a supportive aura!
You smell so classy and elegant that you can’t help but succeed! Break a leg!
Good luck…you will do GREAT!!!
yep, you can do this!
You’ve got this!!
Good luck, lucasai!! I feel your pain, I had two of those presentations recently, 50+ people. I just told myself, at least it’s over Zoom and not in person!!
Good luck ?, I’m sure you’ll do great.
You will do great, Lucas!
Good luck with the presentation. And have a happy week
Go Lucasai!!
Good luck, I’m sure it will go well.
You will do great – stay cool!
Sending thoughts of calmness and equanimity your way.
Wishing you good luck! You will be great!
Good luck, Lucasai! You will do great! ?
Go get ’em, Lucasai! ???
I’m in Tam Dao here, and it is cold so I have fingerless gloves on at the computer and the scent is wafting up nicely through the alpaca and wool… 🙂
You smell wonderful. Do you have EDT or EDP? (always curious!)
Wow, that is cold! It is actually weirdly warm and humid here and I think we’re expecting storms.
You smell great!
Accidentally CP-compliant in Ummagumma. Mr. G’s first words to me this morning were “you smell like cinnamon!” Not sure I agree with that exactly, but I sure do smell spicy.
I am starting to collect Mr.G’s perfume-related comments: “spicy”, “like cinnamon”… whatever he meant, you smell nice!
Thanks! I won’t tell him you’re paying attention — he would start messing with us, saying preposterous and outlandish things just to cause a stir. ?
Sounds like Mr. G has an ornery streak in addition to a pretty good sniffer.
In TDC Bois d’Iris, which smells awfully spicy to me. Perhaps I will dig out 5 o’clock au gingembre — my first-ever Serge — for later in the week. It does tend to amplify on me so will need to spritz carefully. Otherwise, I’ll be scanning the comments to figure out what else I have that may “count” this week.
I loathe pumpkin pie. I am not keen on apple, either. (I make pecan at T-giving and cherry, peach, or North Carolina lemon at other times). But I have recently made (twice, because it is so good) a King Arthur recipe for apple cake with brown sugar frosting. The cake has cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg in it and it is both easy and just about perfect — people rave and ask for seconds. Link below. I use the lower-sugar option for the frosting AND cut the sugar in the cake by 40-50 grams.
https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/old-fashioned-apple-cake-with-brown-sugar-frosting-recipe
That cake sounds so good!
Almost none of the pumpkin spice products have any pumpkin, so it doesn’t matter…it’s just the spices you would put in pumpkin pie if you liked pumpkin pie.
I sometimes sprinkle Penzeys pumpkin pie spice on my granola.
Ooh, thank you for this reminder-I have a good few Serges, including this one. I thought I wouldn’t really be able to participate this week, but you’re right, SL is a good house for this ?
Vacation is over and now it’s back to work. Woke up in no 5 edt and it definitely feels like fall right now. Debating on either Shalimar or L’heure de Nuit today.
You smell classy and gorgeous today.
Sorry Dawn!
Sorry your vacation is over!
I’m sorry your vacation is over- I vote Shalimar!
Love spicy perfumes! Wearing Coco edp today without checking the CP so I’m unknowingly on point ? It’s rained 3″ since yesterday morning, which is a lot for us. It’s so hard to get motivated on a rainy day!
That’s my fragrance for tomorrow! High five!
Fist bump back! Coco smells SO good.
You smell wonderful – I am getting good ideas for the rest of the week today.
I waited all year for this season… For this opportunity to drink my most favorite coffee – pumpkin spice/pie flavored coffee!!
For the CP on Friday I should just wear Like This by ELDO. It has it all ginger, spices and even the pumpkin!!
I expect we will see sightings of Like This all week 🙂
Hehe ?
I will probably be wearing Like This Friday as well haha
Thanks for the reminder of Like This! I’ll definitely be pulling it out this week!
Purely by chance, I’m wearing Arielle Shoshonna’s Sunday. I don’t always get along with this one, but in the slightly cooler, rained-last-night kind of weather we’re having, just a couple of tiny spritzes are perfect! I’m even counting it as CP compliant, since it is supposed to resemble a green tea latte. Surely that’s close enough to Pumpkin Spice for Donatella to approve?
I am sure Donatella approves!
I think Donatella only cares what you buy, not what you wear ?! Regardless, you smell nice!
And that you buy a lot! 😉
I couldn’t think who else to invoke as patron saint of perfume wearing! 🙂
I’m kicking off Spice Week with Fendi by Fendi — thick with spices, resins, and leather. I have enough spicy scents for a week plus, this is going to be a fun week!
Breakfast is a mini egg white frittata, with feta, sun dried tomatoes, and spinach. Double espresso with Sprouts Vanilla Collagen + MCT Creamer. I’m headed to the gym, chest/tricep day.
We had torrential downpours yesterday in N. CA, power was out for most of the day. I enjoyed a three hour nap yesterday, and in bed by 9:30. I feel so rested.
Yum to your breakfast and glad you weather the rain.
My brother in SF was saying they got 4 inches in 24 hrs. and it broke the record for wettest October since they have been keeping track.
He is excited Dolores Park will smell clean again for his walk. 😉 ??
Yes, I love it when it rains! I used to live in SF near GG Park and Ocean Beach (by the Cliff House). I loved the time of year when everything smelled fresh and green.
Ah the Cliff House..did they survive the pandemic?
No. Sadly. No. But I think the National Park Service was looking for a new purveyor to use the space for a new restaurant. I am not sure if one was ever found.
Unfortunately, the Cliff House closed doors. We are so sad, we used to meet friends there often for a cocktail and light snack (meaning, more cocktails, throw in an extra olive.. ) 😉
Come to think of it, I don’t think they’ve found a new purveyor yet. Keeping fingers crossed.
Woke to a wet wet wet morning. Checked the two buckets where we have leaks in the roof (our 100 year old slate roof is beautiful, and too costly to replace–as long as it doesn’t rain it is fine!) The sun is out, and the sky is very clear.
I’m in Poudre de Musc Intense to ward off any potential dampness. I can still smell the fire we had in the fireplace last night and am really wishing for one more rainy day indoors, off work, with a fire in the grate.
Ugh- a leaky roof! It’s raining here in Pasadena too. And chilly. Poudre de Musc Intense sounds warm and comfortable.
Rain in Pasadena? should be to my casita soon.
Should be there now.
it’s here!!
🙂
I grew up in a big house with leaking roofs, lots of buckets. There’s something nice about old places: the leaks, creaks, sticking windows and doors, cranky plumbing, fireplaces and soot that is very endearing.
I can’t help but think damp and black mold!
I used to think that too and wake up in a panic about roof leaks. But a friend has lived for 40 years in a 100+ year old house with a gabled roof, and they take leaks in stride. Buckets until the handyman comes – NBD.
They’re made of tough stuff!
We have it all. By California standards, our home is old. It was built, presumably, to last 100 years, and we are coming up to that deadline. Funny you should mention soot. I usually have a very good relationship with our fireplace and chimney. But yesterday when I was double-checking that the flue was open, it ejected a handful’s worth of wet soot down onto my face. I lifted up my fist and shouted up, “Damn you chimney!” at which point my husband popped his head around the door to see what was fuss. Not my most dignified moment.
Sorry to hear about the soot dump, but that was a classic sitcom vignette! I could see that happening on the “Dick Van Dyke Show”.
Today’s fragrance could only be Apres l’Ondee. Fortunately, the ondee left us high and dry with no power outages, though some people in our region have had a very hard time of it and many schools are closed this morning due to flooding. Settling in for a hopefully cozy day of work from home, watching dozens of songbirds at work across the sopping wet land.
Glad you did not lose power Isabella!
I’m commando, headed for a shower right now.
Emailed Guerlain customer service Friday because I haven’t been able to track my order. Well, turns out they will not ship to my mail delivery service, and the order was never shipped because of that. Bummer!
Now in the biggest spice bomb I have, Kenzo l’Elephant. I love spicy perfumes and have quite a few, but this one is spice on steroids!
I have a few travel size pumpkin spice lotions and such, including the one from Hemp, but the fragrance is actually kind of nasty. Would like a nice classy understated pumpkin spice fragrance…
Ooo Kenzo L’Elephant is spicy awesomeness!
They could have told you that when you ordered as it wasn’t like you changed your mailing address!
Exactly. And I might have been waiting a very long time if I hadn’t taken the initiative to send an email requesting tracking info. It’s been a week since I ordered. ?
Oh that is a bummer!☹️ I received mine pretty quickly.
Aww! Sorry about your bottle.
Boo! That stinks!
In Rebecca Minkoff today which is a sweet yet spicy, dry tobacco to my nose.
I sniffed Oriana yesterday and it’s a lesser Love Extreme which I believe is how hajusuuri categorized it too. More fruit/less rose than Love Extreme and something synthetic to my nose as it wore. Would like to do a forearm challenge and compare the two at some point.??
Yep! I sometimes think marshmallow is the new oud.
hehehehehe
???!
Wonder if anyone has done a marshmallow oud perfume yet?
I hope your sister has a good week…round 11? Almost there.
Rebecca Minkoff sounds beautiful
Good memory! 🙂 Round 10 actually…yes, only two more to go!
I have no idea how pumpkin spice smells, because I live in Germany. I had a craving for something animalic and wore one spray of Salome for work. I don’t care if it’s a perfume for a ball gown…
It smells like a spicier snickerdoodle to me.
It is just a mix of the spices listed above…
I’m going with Obsession Sheer for ambery spicy richness. I do prefer the Sheer version – it’s just a bit more wearable for me and it always feels like a great fall fragrance.
Off to the races today – on my new schedule I work Mon and Tues all day and Wed morning, so Monday morning is a big email catch-up fest. Still adjusting to my new (and wonderful) part-time hours.
Glad the change is going well for you and hoping you will find that perfect path to retirement.
Thanks, Mossy!
Sounds like the new schedule is working well for you!
Starting spice week off with a big one, Kenzo l’Elephant. Just emptied my sample, but I also bought a full bottle which is probably way too much to ever get through. At least the bottle itself is such a delight!
The elephant bottle is so unique.
What a good choice for the CP.
You smell great! I love Kenzo L’Elephant! I wish I’d bought a bottle when I had the chance. And yes, the bottle is great- always a bonus!
The adorable bottle is all I liked about L’Elephant…I don’t “get it” at all, but I love Flower, so Kenzo’s got me covered.
You smell soooo good and yes, that bottle is wonderful!
Nice pick!
I was down at the graveyard yesterday and was so happy to see and smell that all the holly trees were in flower. The flowers are small and creamy, and the scent is sweet and buttery, quite a gentle perfume. The old hawthorn hedges were in full flower too and the ash trees. The flowers on the ash are quite unpleasant, a bit rotten, so I wonder what pollinates them. I watched a good film, a Paul Schrader movie, First Reformed , with Ethan Hawke as a troubled priest. Some nice nods to Tarkovsky for the film buffs. Wearing Sumo Wrestler, J Scent, like it a lot. Kevin did a review a while back. Have a happy week.
Your walk sounds magical with all the trees in bloom. Happy week too.
I have just been looking up the flowers/ pollinators of the mountain ash/ Rowan as the clusters of flowers were more rotten smelling than sweet . I don’t know much about them but it seems they are very attractive to flies but more interesting is that they are pollinated by beetles who just stomp through . The article says that many primitive species, like magnolias, are pollinated by beetles ( long before bees came along). So interesting, learn something new everyday!
https://scottishpollinators.wordpress.com/2020/07/01/the-birds-and-the-beetles-the-rowan-trees-facts-of-life/
Nature is amazing, thank you for the link, beetles who knew?
You and my husband are kindred spirits. He’s a big Paul Schrader fan…just saw his most recent, Card Counter…and an even bigger Tarkovsky fan.
I want to see Card Counter . My son has thrilled me by becoming interested in movies so we watch Bergman, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa etc etc together as our “thing”.
I think about First Reformed all the time. Powerful stuff. Did NOT help my climate anxiety.
I know! That image of the computer screen in the background with the temperatures going from green to yellow to red, couldn’t take my eyes off it.
We have a holly tree at our house, and the smell is wonderful, just like you said, and it hums with all the bees and wasps who comes to it in peak bloom. It has a Southern Hemisphere sensibility in one way, in that its old leaves fall in May. However it does then bloom, and of course it’s evergreen so it never goes bare.
I love the fact that the graveyard has so many heritage roses and old trees brought here by the first Scottish immigrants , like the hawthorns and holly, up against the old native bush and trees which were cleared in most places for farmland , the rimu and totara, Tarata, kowhai, and native fuschia . It’s a wonderful mix and attracts such a broad range of birds both introduced and native.
Kanuka I am sure you must receive a lot of comments about how wonderful your observations are-can I join in and thank you for these beautiful images. I visited your country years ago and remember being in Dunedin so clearly, and feeling so strange and sad (I lived in Scotland for a while) at the name of the place, and how it was nothing like the other place…of course a long time has passed since those settlers renamed it but still, it’s good to be reminded of all the layers of history, and of nature. Also, can I just say: Tarkovsky changed my life, so thank you that mention too!
I wanted to thank you for the Montaigne (Stefan Zweig) recommendation. I am reading it now, thank you. It is getting more common (arguably) for people to use the Kai Tahu ( Maori tribe) name Otepoti ( macron on first O…so a long sound) for Dunedin now. I wish you could join us for our movie nights!
Oh I oh am so glad you like the Zweig! He is one of my heroes-a true poet, with a poet’s soul. Much as I admire Montaigne, I love Zweig. Sending you special greetings.
And thank you for that information about the Kai Tahu name-I visited in 2004 and it was only then that I began to learn about Maori history (my knowledge had been very Anglo-focused until
that point) so I will read up on this, thank you very much.
Holly honey is some of the best that I have tried.
I almost decided what to wear on Friday, I also have a BPAL pumpkin latte oil but the small bottle went AWOL just when needed.
I wore Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur but this evening it’s Liz Earle Botanical Essence No 9, a fruity chypre, it does have ‘red ginger’ but what I smell most is the dark red fruit.
I think BPAL pumpkin latte oil wins the project! Figures that it’s missing.
Thank you Robin, its going missing is infuriating ?
Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede, which is very cozy.
Busy weekend. An art crawl north of us, which included a local potter offering up his cider-roasted turkey on freshly baked bread, topped with cranberry. Delicious and we splurged on a vase. Anniversary dinner at the tapas place in town. Also delicious.
We went down to Green Bay yesterday for the Packer football game. My husband literally teared up because he loves Lambeau Field so much and hadn’t been in so long. Could be why he made us get there 3 hours before the game… ??? It was a lot of fun, and I was dressed perfectly for the weather.
I bought a sample size bag of our local roastery’s pumpkin spice coffee. (Our usual is their “Scandinavian” blend, which includes Ethiopian beans) Since I’m not big on flavored coffees in general, I decided to brew it and then save it to drink it in an iced coffee. It was quite good that way. I may actually try it hot another time, since it seemed like it was a fairly mild flavoring.
Pre-COVID (because no one has flown yet), my sister used to get to the airport a good 4 hours before flight time. This is getting there by which means leaving the house at least 5 hours before.
Enjoy your cold pumpkin spice coffee … I ja e to think if I have ever had it cold myself.
How wonderful that art fair and your turkey treat sound! Very exciting about going live to a Packers game. My brother and s-i-l live in far northern Wisconsin and I’m well aware of how the Packers are a religion up there!
Your weekend sounds wonderful!
Cider-roasted turkey sounds delish!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan
Suitably spicy to meet the challenge! I saw Ambre Sultan at a very good price on Fragrancenet and was fine with my wearing of it. Then I saw someone splitting a bottle of “vintage” Ambre Sultan and decided to get the remaining volume. I wore the vintage today ad what a difference! I will post a picture later today. With the same bottle size and shape, there’s the cream label with the Palais Royale logo, cream label with the LS logo and black with the LS logo (this is the newest).
In other news, I dropped off the rest of the freebie packages today! I will email the recipients when I see the first real tracking with an estimated delivery date. I literally emptied out the 2 boxes, eliminated the samples that were empty or showed separation, distributed the samples randomly by weight to take into account the weight of the FBs (partial bottle, travel sprays or larger decants) and a little packet from me (also random).
*** I do have one freebie left: sludge (7), a small bottle of musc oil, and 2 samples that I was too lazy to separate from the manufacturer’s packaging. Dibs here and email me with your NST name and shipping info. U.S. only. ***
And now onto the splits later!
Splits posted:
– Shalimar MVP
– Travel sprays of two popular perfumes
– LUSH Jilted Elf
– L’Artisan Parfumeur 25 Obscuratio
– Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods
You are tireless! ?
LOL. Someone at work once remarked I must have roller skates for shoes ?.
Somebody was Busy, Busy, Busy!
Perfume is your cardio!
Pumpkin spice isn’t a thing here, or maybe I’m very observant 🙂
I’ve got lots of spicy perfumes, but none of them seem right for a blue dress, Hiris is more appropriate.
Oh how lovely! I hope to purchase a bottle of Hiris later this week, on my next payday. I do love wearing blue and don’t have enough perfumes for those dresses!
I am kicking off pumpkin spice week in Musc Ravageur, which is all spice on me and very little Musc. It poured rain yesterday, with gusty winds, and it is doing the same today. I love a good gusty fall day.
Agree I love a stormy fall day!
Note to Lillyjo: I’ve only got 5 more days to raid my friend’s perfume cabinet. Got anymore 80s, 90s suggestions for me to look for? ? If anyone else is interested and wants to chime in with suggestions, I’m all for it. Bear in mind, she doesn’t have any niche type perfumes from that time (she never even heard of SL until I bought her a bottle of A La Nuit for her birthday 6 years ago!).
I am all ears for what you wear next ? Did your friend buy large/multiple bottles at the time, or has she so many varieties that there’s plenty left? Either way, how generous of her (and how exciting for you) ?
She has just always loved perfume and slowly amassed a crammed 6-shelf cabinet of 30+ years of perfume FBs that she has kept remarkably well preserved. But she doesn’t read perfume blogs or know niche houses or order from decanters. Most of her perfumes were bought at department stores, drug stores, received as gifts. But as perfumistas we start drooling over her collection because they’re all the old formulations or discontinued fragrances. I’m way more active in the perfume world and though I have brought some great vintages most of my perfume comes from the last 15 years or so. Yes, it really is a treat to raid her perfume cabinet.
Thank you! I am a department-store shopper at heart so this is music to my future self’s ears ?
And take her lesson and store those bottles in a COOL and DARK place always! Years from now you’ll be the envy of all the perfumistas. I’m already thinking about investing in a perfume cooler.
I agreed to dust, clean, and reorganize her perfume cabinet tomorrow, so I’m gonna compile a list of the gems and post it for all to see & weep. ?
Anxious to read what all you find!
Look for Rochas, especially Mystere!
Yes, plus Tocade and Byzance!
If you see some Tuscany per Donna from Aramis, try that! It’s the original formulation and was gorgeous.
Others have likely suggested various Chanels, Diors, and Guerlains, but my faves that were great in those decades are No.19, No. 22, Cristalle; Diorissimo, Diorella, Dioressence. Vintage Anne Klein 2 would be a great find! Vintage Estée Lauder anything would also be great: The trio of White Linen, Cinnabar, and Celadon would be an awesome find. Other vintage frags: Rive Gauche, Obsession, Poison, Niki de Saint Phalle.
SotD for a panic house cleaning is Shalimar Souffle Intense. Our junk room has gotten too junky and I have three half full boxes in two rooms of stuff to go to the thrift store. Need to stand up straight and get to it – hence the Shalimar. Happy Monday all – looking forward to trying some of everyone’s spicy scent ideas.
I am impressed that you have a junk room! I recently moved from a junk flat to an actual house (complete with 120-year-old leaking slate roof), so having only a junk room is currently my ambition ?
Ha, ha – word to the wise, keep your closets half full! (oh if mine only were…) Slate roof sounds wonderful. In time, I am sure you can find and fix your issue.
Thank you MB! this is such good advice but already too late for me-I have 3 closets, all full, but the fact that my clothes are all on hangers and not in storage bags makes me feel like I am in a new world. I just need to stop acquiring, but now that I can actually see what I have, and access it easily, I think that will finally happen. And yes, our slate roof is beautiful-small tiles of Welsh slate, lovely to behold!
I feel we are some shared current with our leaking slate roofs. Passing you the bucket 🙂
Appreciate it, thank you!
Hello everyone, sending you greetings and good wishes for the new week. I forgot about this week’s CP and just wore Miss Dior again today, as I wore it yesterday and Mr Dolce likes it (he spent the weekend in Egoiste-NST has transformed our lives for the better and I thank you all ?). I’ve realised from today’s comments that I have a greater range of spicy perfumes than I thought, so this will be fun. I nipped into town this evening and saw all the new additions to the main department store’s beauty hall-Ormonde Jayne and Parfums de Marly being the most notable (interesting they’ve expanded the high-end ranges rather than mid-price), so any suggestions about what to try first from these ranges? The Gucci Apothecary line is on its way too, hmm…
I have PdM Oajan and Delina, and liked Ormonde Jayne Ta’if and Tolu. I haven’t smelled her newest ones.
Noted, thank you!
I second Delina and Ta’if, and would add Ormonde Woman, since you like spicy fragrances. Enjoy your sniffing when you go!
Thank you!
Egoiste is Good Stuff! I wish I’d gotten a bottle of it back in the day.
It is wonderful!
I’m semi-compliant in Jacomo Art Collection No. 08, which is all about the tea, milk, and spices.
That sounds totally compliant! All you need is one of the spices listed above.
My October food buy is pumpkin bagels, not spiced but delicious. Wearing Oud Bouquet on one arm and L’Autre Oud on l’autre arm.
Those sound nice! I made some pumpkin biscuits last year, also not spiced, and they were a hit!
I’m wearing JM Star Magnolia & Honey, but it’s gone so I will be adding some Ambre Sultan shortly. It’s a rainy day here, but just a bit, nothing like what they’ve gotten north of us.
Twins with Ambre Sultan if you ended up wearing it!
We got a good dousing here, and lost internet for a couple hours. Kept power though, other a couple minutes — yay!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/ZbbaWq6EtaM
Record warmth today, and a whole lotta rain and wind on the way! The evening news said that my area should expect between 2 – 4 inches. That’s 5 – 10.16 cm for folks using metric. Squishy! ☔ And a Severe Weather Warning has just popped up on the TV screen, so it sounds like I’m in for some yuck later on.
SOTD = back in No. 5 L’eau again today. I’m having another one of my perfume monogamy streaks, thanks to lillyjo.
You smell…monogamous ?. Gov. Murphy declared a State of Emergency from 8pm tonight to tomorrow afternoon. We used to be made of sterner stuff…
You are the second person to tell me about the State of Emergency tonight. There are a few places around here that are going to flood if the weather forecasts are correct. Hopefully no one has to get pulled out of them.
We are getting the same weather here. Governor Hochul also declared State of Emergency for NYC. Hope no one gets seriously affected this time.
Wearing some Lush Ginger today. Got my flu shot earlier so I’m taking it easy now.
Yesterday I spent some time purging my closet and drawers. A good thing to do on a rainy day. There’s actually some space between the hangers now.
Hope that you don’t have any side effects from the flu poke.
Thank you; so far so good. Tomorrow may be another story! I may need chocolate.
SOTD was Ginger Biscuit from Jo Malone. I like it, but it’s really too sweet for me. Lovely spices, though!
