It's Tuesday and International Gin & Tonic Day. The splitmeet will start this coming Saturday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aftelier Candide for Pantone 13-0647 TCX Illuminating (I could not find a teacup in Illuminating, but you can find cortado cups and mugs.) Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese Breakfast with a dash of cinnamon.
Reminder: on 10/22, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Leprechaun is a wondrous green hue emblematic of the mythical imps featured in Irish folklore" or "Friendly and joyful, an optimistic yellow offering the promise of a sunny day.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are Pantone tea cups which you can find pretty easily online; Amazon even has them.
I was inspired by a post yesterday to dig out Eau de Courrèges, which I guess if we’re Pantoning is a pretty good match for the bright-yellow Illuminating: it opens with an immense cologney explosion of citrus, then gets very quiet very fast, a lean-in-to-smell-it woody chypre (of course there’s oakmoss, it was the seventies). It is a very good thing to smell like. I need to wear this a lot more.
That sounds perfect!
I was surprised they axed the Colognes Imaginaires, those only came out last year.
https://nstperfume.com/2020/06/04/courreges-colognes-imaginaires-new-fragrances/
Well, that’s what they get for not using the house bottle.
Seriously, though: a year is a very short time on the market. They must have lost a lot of money on the line.
And Covid could have made it worse, I’m sure.
Oh! I have an idea for tomorrow’s SOTD, thanks!!
African Leather today, which I have attributed to Root Beer. (Just the color, not the name!)
That works, points for Dorsey!
Coromandel.??? Another beautiful sunny day here.
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours on my hands and knees-literally- moving furniture and cleaning the hardwood floors. It had been way too long since I’ve done them and now the house feels so clean. Dust bunnies do like to collect under couches and behind furniture.
Speaking of, we are desperately in need of new furniture. There is a local place that offers in home design services for a small fee. I set up an appointment for next month, and I’m excited to see what they will come up with.
Café Tuberosa, I am not much into white flowers and Gourmand, but this is a scent I enjoy now and then.
Got home earlier, because our linear accelerator needed a repair, so I have time to cook soup from Saturdays duck carcass.
I am tickled to see the terms linear accelerator and duck carcass used in the same sentence! And you smell very pretty, as well!
2nd that!! Excellent sentence.
New furniture is so fun!
I am hoping to get some in the spring.
I’m hoping to order a (custom) sectional this week. Maybe we’ll have it by next summer…
Speaking of which, does anyone have any experience with crypton fabrics?
Said sectional will be white, but crypton, which I’m hoping will not stain ? (or at least not as easily)
Spiffing up the hardwood floors always make me feel good, too.
Hello all, sipping on a home made Chai tea, extra ginger! I’m leaving with Mr. SmokeyToes in a moment for his Covid test.
My SOTD is Diptyque’s L’ Eau Trois to go with Pantone’s Olive Branch.
It’s very cool out, 55, I’ll fill a travel mug with more tea and save the coffee for later.
You’re smelling great in one of my favorites and that’s a great color match. Fingers crossed for a negative test!
tea twins! yay!
Tea twins, yay! I do love a chai tea, it’s so soothing and rich.
Good luck with the test!
Last night was not a good night. Massive tooth pain all night long, even with migraine meds. Called my dentist and they won’t be able to get me in for two weeks. Wearing Epic right now but about to get into the shower and switch to something else. I am blaming Covid for this.
That is awful Dawn! Can’t they at least give you antibiotics ( in case of infection) and something for the pain?
Tooth pain is unbearable. I am really sorry and hope it eases up.
I’m sorry to hear about your bad night. I hope you feel better soon, and that someone cancels their appointment at your dentist!
Oh that sounds awful. Tooth pain can be so all consuming. Fingers crossed for a cancellation or a referral to an emergency dental service.
I’m so sorry, Dawn! Tooth pain is awful. I hope they can get you in sooner. Maybe worth calling around to see if you can get in somewhere else?
Oof. That is not cool. Hope you can get some relief more quickly than that.
I have been here, and tooth pain is all consuming awfulness. Does your breath feel or smell exceptionally bad? Then that is an infection, and you need emergency services. If you are with a provider, try to see if there is emergency services and try to get into that office WITHOUT DELAY.
It doesn’t feel or smell especially bad. Just feels like the area around the tooth is a big painful sore. Hurts to eat.
This was my thought, too – an infection can be very dangerous and is an emergency.
I have a couple of chunks of wisdom tooth buried deep in my jaw from a failed extraction decades ago, and when a dental surgeon saw them years later in an X-ray he was mildly horrified: he said, very seriously, “If your lower jaw ever gets hot and swollen, you go to the emergency room IMMEDIATELY.” Because apparently that can kill you.
This is fact. Don’t ask me how I know.
Lots of good advice already, will just add another dollop of sympathy.
Oh no! I hope you can get this looked at soon.
Yuck. That sounds terrible.
Raided my friend’s perfume cabinet again today. She started collecting perfume way before I did and has lots of well-preserved bottles of perfumes from the 80s and 90s. It’s still cold here in SoCal but clear and sunny. I’m continuing the big 80s theme and am wearing YSL Opium. Spicy and warm. And BIG.
Once again you smell glorious!
Thank you Lillyjo! I love that word- glorious. It’s an exuberant word and it’s fitting, these big 80s scents are indeed glorious. And I’m loving the trip down memory lane. I’m so lucky to have a friend who had the foresight to take care of her years long perfumes and who allows me to raid her cabinet with abandon!
BTW, does anyone have any suggestions about new perfume houses for me to discover? I have a tendency to focus on perfume houses I already am familiar with like FM, SL, Chanel, Rogue, BROGUE, Tom Ford, Isabey, Guerlain, etc. I like indolic florals, chypres, and greens. And perfumes with a skanky base that makes me feel like I should be doing the walk of shame.
Papillon Perfumes. Dryad (green) and Salome (skanky) especially.
Thanks NovemberRose! I’ll give them a go
I like your perfume interests and I am so glad you feel glorious today!
Francesca Bianchi
I am enjoying Sana Jardin, Les Immodables and Une Nuit Nomade.
Not all at the same time, of course.
Try Eris Perfumes and Zoologist. Eris has skanky ones and Zoologist I think would tick off all your requirements.
Persolaise did a review of a new house today, Akro, by Olivier Cresp, that sounded interesting, and the sample set is only $32, free shipping. The theme is addictions, and the initial six scents involve “Cigarettes. Weed. Sex. Chocolate. Caffeine. Alcohol.”
You can see the review on Persolaise’s youtube channel.
Well they get straight to the point! Lol. I’ll give them a go. Thanks!
Dusita is a truly fantastic house to discover. Very green perfumes (sillage Blanc, Erawan) floral-green (Fleur de Lalita), bombastic florals (Melodie de l amour, Anamcara, Cavatina), elegant easy to like but unique florals (douceur de Siam, Splendiris)…has even a very skanky apparently very naturalistic aoud-rose. If you like indolic florals another one I’d recommend is Moon Bloom Hiram Green.
Thanks everyone for the perfume suggestions! Much appreciated!
It’s HUGE. I have a vintage bottle and anything more than a tiny dab is totally overwhelming. Which of course, I forget between wears ?
It is! I’m old enough to remember when these perfumes came out and logically I remember them being big and filling up the room, I really do, but revisiting them has floored me with how mighty powerful they really are! It’s like they’re trying to reach God. Now I understand the big hair and shoulder pads- the higher the hair (and perfume) the closer to God!
I too am old enough to remember the room-filling scents of the late seventies through the eighties, and by god I miss them — they had style and character and complexity, even if they were just too much.
They really did. And I kind of miss them; in particular I miss the boldness, complexity and all those naughty ingredients that made perfumes so memorable. But remember EVERYONE was wearing them at the time, and the men were all wearing Drakkar Noir, CK Obssion, and Grey Flannel. All those huge perfumes converging on each other everywhere you went, restaurants, airports, Drs offices, you name it and was all just too much. They had the ability to put down a herd of elephants.
Old school Opium is WONDERFUL. You smell like royalty!
Wish I would have gotten a bottle of Opium long ago.
Gin and tonics, my sports drink of choice! Feeling daunted by the work week ahead, which features lots of driving long distances to places I’ve never been to meet people I’ve never spoken with at specific locations I’ve no mental image of, plus an unaccustomed three days without my son mid-week, plus all the lingering health worries (upcoming CT scans and biopsies, etc. etc.). Wearing Galop since for me it conjures beauty and strength and fierceness and lushness, four things I could use an influx of while I’m feeling little but tiredness and fretfulness and lonesomeness.
Gin and tonics are my favorite cocktail too.
I hope your week is better than you anticipate. Big hugs to you.
Thanks, Sistine! One weird, stranger-laden site visit down, and it wasn’t bad at all, so the next few days aren’t seeming quite so monumental.
You smell great! Good luck with work this week.
Gin and tonics are my favorite too. Lately I’ve been adding a splash of St. Germain to mine. I’m curious about how they qualify as sports drinks!
I love adding St. Germaine to mine, and to champagne cocktails! And I just find G&Ts so darn refreshing after sweaty days in the woods, that I’ve always been sure that they must be electrolyte-balancing in some wholesome way. 😉
Good luck this week! You picked the perfect perfume for it.
The leather note was a nice accompaniment to the recently spread manure in the pastures we walked through today. I felt like I brought the elegance and beauty to the whole ranch scene…
Galop is perfect. Sending you good wishes for all that’s ahead.
Thank you!
G&T is so refreshing, especially when having a week or day like yours.
And remember, it’s always 5 o’clock *somewhere*!
Hope it all goes better than your fears, Isabella! We are all thinking of you.
Thanks, Robin. Decent enough so far, though tomorrow’s SOTD is going to have to provide some anti-mansplaining armor…
🙂
Good luck with your week and I hope you feel more peaceful and happier soon
Well, all you kind and fragrant people sure help! <3
That sounds like a lot to deal with, plan something fun to do at the weekend for respite.
Lasagna-making and possible apple-picking and subsequent apple-pie-baking are in consideration for the weekend, depending on how rainy it winds up being. Seems like a good time to fire up the oven, be cozy, and eat delicious things.
Time to pick out your best ? kicking perfumes, I think. Good luck with the rest of the week!
Hi Isabella. I really hope your week goes better than expected.
Fingers crossed for you ????
Hello all.
Sotd is Spellbound.
Currently on the hunt for a new wallet. Think I will spend my free time drooling all over the internet. Hope I stay on track and not veer towards the handbag section though it is tempting. Ha.
Fellow leather goods fan here. I have far too many handbags, but wallets haven’t called my name since I invested in a Lodis years ago. I was skeptical that the SA was over-hyping it, but I have to say that it has held up very well for 15 or so years now — looks almost new.
15 years! I will go look them up. I am such a klutz I don’t think anything of mine can last that long…
My husband was in desperate need of a new wallet and I got him one from here for Father’s Day no affiliation
https://leatherworksminnesota.com/collections/wallets
Thank you for your suggestion 🙂
If you are in NYC Hermes is having their sample sale..smell leather goods at a discount. (no affiliation)
Omg!!
I went from using the biggest available tote bags I could find (the last one being a Michael Kors, which was the best-designed handbag I’ve ever owned) with a huge wallet to match, to downsizing a little bit, then a bit more, then finally itty bitty.
My last handbag purchase was a mini crossbody that’s like 4″x6″, which holds a (nylon! not cute but lightweight) wallet that’s about the size of 2 credit cards. I just can’t deal with a big, heavy, bulky bag anymore. Though my tiny bags are always packed to the gills with my long list of necessities. )
I need a long wallet with a lot of slots. I have too many cards and things. I tried downsizing but didn’t work for me.
I did, too, and it didn’t work, then I got old and weak and made it work 😉

I love Deadly Ponies for wallets and bags. They are beautifully made.
Their python or croc look pretty good 😉
I’ve gotten a couple of bags and a wallet from Rough and Tumble, made in Maine.
You can go ready made minimalistic or you can design you own. They have a wide variety of fabrics and leathers to choose from.

Will take a loooong look. Thanks!
Tea this morning is my father in laws chai tea. He is here. Tonight we are eating dosa.
SOTD Love Extreme
Question-it seems like this bottle all of the sudden is spraying in a stream instead of a spray mist. Any advice?
Venting NYC post-feel free to skip
Going to meet my friend on Madison and 68th, I was standing for a long time waiting for a yellow taxi, saw one going north when I was going south. When I got in and the driver proceeded to explain to me with attitude how I was hailing a taxi on the wrong side of the street. And I said I was waiting for awhile and I didn’t see any going south. He wouldn’t let go and kept going on and on in this argumentative tone-so I said..”excuse me, stop the taxi. I think I will spend my money on elsewhere. Good luck on with your next customer. ” Flagged another taxi who didn’t mind swinging a u-turn for me and was on my way. Good grief Charlie Brown
Good grief indeed!
I need Lucy’s 10 cent therapist session after that taxi driver
sorry 5 cents

“He is here” yay! Enjoy your chai and your visit!?
Good for you for speaking your mind and getting out of the cab. Perhaps he will think twice next time. I realize everyone, everywhere is so stressed out right now. These are stressful times, but isn’t that all the more reason that the least we can all do is be kind to each other.☺️
I agree..this are strange times. Next time I will plan my time better and walk!
Yay for your FIL!
And good for you for not putting up with that bully.
Not sure what has gotten into NYers these days!
Envious of your dosas!
You might try cleaning the sprayer with a qtip dipped in alcohol.
ah, ok I will try that..
FIL chai, yay!
Sorry about the mean taxi man.
Aww, I know both the father in law and his chai are deeply beloved by you — so glad he’s there!
Glad to hear that you didn’t put up with that taxi driver’s crap!
And YAY for your FIL & his chai being around.
Feu Secret for me today. I got a hint of plastic in the top notes — first time that’s occurred. It wasn’t horrible and it’s gone now, but I’m hoping it was just my nose this morning and not something that happened to the juice.
Oh dear. I love that one.
Here’s me after folding and turning on the furnace last night.

Heading into work wearing Shalimar edp.
It’s funny, but I’ve never actually smelled Shalimar. I just never came across it somehow. Shameful, yes?
Not shameful. Around here, there are no testers of Shalimar, even at Macy’s.
I’ve never smelled it in the wild (in this century, anyway.)
I rather suspect that it’s just perfumistas that wear both Shalimar and Chanel No 5.
LOL? but back in the 70’s today!?
I know! And so much sun, I’m giddy!
Remind me of this in January!
I love LOVE that scene!!!! HA!
Shalimar is gorgeous stuff
It really is!
I folded after I woke up yesterday to 73F indoor temps. And again this morning when it was 71. Just for a few minutes to take the chill off. Then I got back in bed and turned on my heated mattress pad. ?
I am still holding out…and it looks like I picked right because it’s supposed to warm up to unseasonable temps again. That said, I wore my “grandpa shawl” cardigan and it felt really good.
Grandpa Style is hot right now, so you are totally on trend! ??
LOL!
It’s true! My son just bought a grandpa cardigan. It looks good on him.
“I wear your grandad’s clothes, I look incredible!”
https://youtu.be/QK8mJJJvaes
What am I going to do with $20 in my pocket? LOL
?
I’ve discovered a side benefit to having turned the heat on. It prevents Spooky kitty from bugging me for food every single time I set food in the kitchen. Yes, she is SPOILED!
OK, that should have been “set FOOT” in the kitchen. Obviously her nagging is getting to me!
Lol! It made sense either way!
Dabbed on Mon Precieux Nectar today, and with my cold hands, it is not projecting off my skin the way it does in the summer time. The other day I wore DSH’s Oeillets Rouges for the first time in months, and it was fantastic. In the summer time it is much too much. 🙂 Welcome to the many changes of fall….Time to sort out winter vs summer perfumes, I guess.
I put on a light down jacket for our after dinner walk, so to me, that means it’s nearly Black Cashmere weather 🙂
I’m wearing Lake again today. Smelling good!
Hope it was a good day sistine!
No SotD yet as I am working – landscaping. Can smell remains of Tuberoza in my hair from yesterday.
I am sooo excited my wonderful package from the Freebie meet arrived yesterday evening and I got some perfumista worthy samples to test!! Yay!!
Fun!
Accidentally on topic today in Habit Rouge, which works for Fire Whirl.
About a quarter of the way through one of my Halloween reads, The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. So far, so good. Would recommend for lovers of nineties horror flicks. I’m also listening to James Marsters reading Dead Beat, one of Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series, which has a Halloween setting. Super fun.
In other news, just back from the doctor’s for my annual physical. Got a clean bill of health, but was informed that now that I’m forty, I have to have mammograms. Yay. Of course, I will, but I don’t mind saying I’m feeling nervous about it.
I just started getting them last year and the doctor warned me that 80% of her patients get a call after their first mammo asking them to come back in soon for a follow up one. She said it is because they have nothing to compare the first one to, so it can be difficult to tell if they are seeing a cyst, or something more serious. Unsurprisingly, I was in that 80% and had to get follow up imaging, but I was so glad she had warned me, otherwise I would have been freaking out that something was wrong.
That happened to me, but at the actual appointment and they then did an ultrasound, followed by an insurance consultation to see if it would cover my cancer treatment.
Then the doctor did another full assessment and said everything seemed fine, which was confirmed by xrays.
After that utterly hideous experience, I talked to my mom, who said that she and her sisters have lumpy breasts and have had similar experiences. (EXCEPTING having the C word thrown at them by half a dozen people prior to test results. )
I now know to expect every medical professional to freak out the first time they do a breast exam. I’ve been getting mammograms annually since I was in my late 30s with a clean bill.
It takes someone very special to make someone feel comfortable having their breasts manhandled while a machine squeezes the crap out of them, and I’ve never had anything but good experiences since that first one. Including at that same clinic.
Oh my. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Glad to hear that it got better.
I think there can be quite a few benign things, like calcifications, that can show up on mammograms and the medical professionals just want to rule them out as a more serious problem. Follow up tests, like biopsies, can be part of that process and don’t necessarily mean that something terrible will happen. Sometimes I think it helps to be curious about what is going on as it is all pretty amazing, seeing what is going on in your body on a screen, ultrasound, CT or MRI. It’s pretty fascinating and I think if you “own” the experience it is far less intimidating….just like seeing a baby on ultrasound is so cool. But good luck.
Thanks, Kanuka! Yeah, I like to see imaging, too. I’m still a little bummed that I didn’t get to see my head CT-but I had a concussion at the time and didn’t think to ask. . .
Fwiw… I have always found the technicians to be very kind. They know people are nervous and do their best to put you at ease.
Thanks!
How funny, I’m currently ready Grady Hendrix’s The Final Girls Support Group…
Will check it out on Goodreads!
Try to schedule you appointment AFTER your cycle starts. If you go 7-10 days before, your breast density increases and makes the mammo more challenging to radiologists. You will most likely get a call back.
Thanks for the advice! Will definitely follow it.
My doc warned me about the same thing. She also said that women in their forties still tend to have relatively dense tissue, and that is often a reason they have difficulty getting a good image. I’m glad she warned me, or yeah, I’d be freaking out if that happened.
Oops. This was a reply for Vee.
I had a wonderful mammogram tech tell me years ago to take a couple of Advil before your procedure to minimize discomfort. And to lay off caffeinated beverages too, since that can make you more sensitive to the squishing.
I smell like a burbling, babbling, bubbly cherry. Tacky, padded shouldered, cherry extra. I much prefer this, Bvlgari’s Amarena, to Lost Cherry, which just did not work for me. The Tom Ford, despite the name, takes itself way too seriously for my taste–especially as it shares notes with Smith Bros. Cherry Cough drops. Amarena may go on with a loud bang (pop?), but quickly settles down to almost a skin scent.
Haven’t come across this Bvlgari before but it sounds great!
It’s in the Le Gemme series.
Ah, thank you!
PdN sampling continues with Ambre Cashmere and Amber Oud. I am not confident in my understanding of amber as a standalone note. I thought trying these at the same time might help, but it’s not really. The AC has a sweet, somewhat high-pitched note that doesn’t work for me. Could be the citrus+pepper, or could be the benzoin. Or maybe both. The AO is working really well for me, tho. I like the herbs + oud combo. Feels like walking in a forest on a snowy day.
Drinking Earl Grey and very happy that the crisp fall temperatures seem to be here for good in my corner of the world.
Amber covers a lot of perfume territory. It can be sweet or dry. About the only constant characteristic I have found with it is that it is a “warm” smell.
Still deep in the bottomless pit of Montalé samples. Today is Oud Tabacco but I get mostly flowers..?
But I LIKE these flowers! They very round and soft and don’t make my sinuses cringe in horror. I get a tiny bit of tobacco and wood in the background.
The style of these perfumes reminds me of the 80’s- big, brash, and loud. Having been a teen in the 80’s I can attest to the fact that I was all of those things, and the style brings back wonderful memories!
Can’t remember if it was here or on IG but I was commiserating with someone who recommended Ciderboys Peach County. I found some last week, and it’s jumped ahead of my favorite marionberry cider. It’s just delicious and so refreshing. So thanks to whoever it was that mentioned it!
We don’t have Marion Erie’s. Are they tart?
I’ve never had a marionberry as a stand alone. They were created here in Oregon, a cross between two other types blackberries, so are quite popular. There is marionberry everything up here- ice cream, syrup, ad infinitum. The marionberry cider I was referring to is by Incline. It starts off mildly sweet but finishes with a smack of tartness. The peach cider is sweet through and through.
Sounds delicious. Thanks for the information
Marionberry jelly beans & candy are delicious! I lucked out in getting some the last time I was in WA state.
I came across wild blackberries when I was contracted there but either they weren’t ripe enough or they were perfectly ripe but I couldn’t reach them! Lol!
Ah, the ups and downs of foraging! (Pun intended, sorry/not sorry.)
Hello everyone, wearing a quick spritz of Samsara to cheer myself up after my new bottle of Chamade (back-up bottle purchased last night from local department store) disappointed me. I have another bottle, maybe 7 or 8 years old, a 50ml refill for that fancy gold flask Guerlain used to do. Bought the back up so I could wear Chamade more often while saving the fancy bottle for special occasions, but dear me I can hardly smell anything at all- just something thin with a bit of an edge. Hoping that if I spray a fair bit to get some air in the bottle it will develop a bit more in the next few months. I feel foolish for buying it and I do not like its harsh white box and plain font either. And pink belongs to Champs Elysees not to Chamade so the colour is wrong too, argh! Time for a gin and tonic here ?
Give it some rest – it could get better with time after sitting on your shelf.
You can look for some vintage bottles that’s already been sitting somewhere to speed the process =)
Yes I hope so – time might help here. And it sounds like you have been having a wonderful time with vintage Guerlains! I rarely shop online and never for vintage, however, as I am afraid of getting hooked on something splendid and then spending even more time in perfume land…I need to limit myself somehow, but I am so pleased to read about your adventures with VdN.
? hopefully it’s eligible for return? That’s so disappointing.
Hmm, I think here once a purchase has been opened, that’s it (especially for cosmetics etc)…
Depends on who you bought it from.
In the US, that is.
I find Samsara to be a mood lifter, too. I will add I have both vintage and new Chamade, and so far I have not “connected” with it they way I usually do with Guerlain’s offerings.
Oh, interesting! I do really like Chamade, not as much as Nahéma (which may be my favourite Guerlain, above even Shalimar, but I have tons of Shalimar so I wear it very often) but perhaps it’s the aging of my old bottle which has boosted it, rather than the newest version being too weak. I need to give this more time and thought. Thanks everyone for taking me out of my disappointment ?
Charade is so beautiful. Sad to hear of your experience.
I might just have been unlucky with this one today, rather than it being entirely the perfume’s fault (and I love the older gold boxes so much that even the packaging might be okay to fresh eyes) but yes – at it’s best it is a beauty.
What a bummer about your new bottle of Chamade. But I have noticed that a couple of perfumes I have changed for the better when I set them aside for a while. Maybe the same thing will happen to you?
Yes I hope so – and thank you for the encouragement!
I received today another small bottle of vintage VdN and the seller – a very nice woman – put a little sample of Armani Mania there in the box just like sort of a gift with my purchase =)
I was amazed at this fact since Armani Mania was the first perfume that put me into obsession with fragrances. And VdN is now my almost husband to whom I am loyal 90% of the time.
What luck. I’ll be sporting my Armani Mania tomorrow and today I am still in VdN =)
That is cool. I have never smelled VdN but one day….!
If you do – try only parfum (extract)
Edt is a waste of time in my opinion =)
Thanks for the tip
What an awesome perfumed twist of Fate, to get a sample of your first perfume love!
I’m wearing Tauer’s Une Rose Chypree today. It’s wonderful in the more chilly weather.
Important PSA: the Shalimar Millesime Vanilla Planifolia is now in stock on the Guerlain website!
Uh oh ?
Thanks for letting us know!!
You’re welcome! I was not impressed that I had signed up for the “email when back in stock” and I never received an email. Happy to be Guerlain’s manual alert system for others! ?
I think a lot of people had that complaint.
Yes – I wasn’t going to mention it, but I felt at least have the courtesy to do what you said you’d do when you get my email!
Oh my! And here I thought my next full bottle would be a Montalé…
I looked up the Shalimar Vanilla and it $118 for a bottle! I would buy one except I have 2 bottles of the Shalimar Mexique, so I think I am set for vanilla Shalimar. But I’d buy a little split (hint, hint, hint).
Tuesday!
1) SOTD is Beauty Pie’s Love. Perfect for today- we started with a chilly fog that render everything like a Japanese ink painting, soft and mysterious, to a beautiful partly cloudy day today.
2) Back bedroom is almost cleared- it’s the mattress which is big, bulky and a pain. I think I am going to just call a service to do this- I am strong, but this is unwieldy!
After that, rug shampoo and wall smoothing and paint touch ups!
3) All of this is making me think about the whole French home scheme- the idea being that for the summer I would rent out part of the place. But do I like this- the scrubbing, vacuuming and dusting, the bathroom clean up, the laundry for sheets and towels. I do it for myself- but oy, for other people who are not my kids, relatives or friends?
4) Although G&T is more for summer, after today I totally think I am entitled to one!
Ohh so this person was not a friend? That explains the mess (somewhat) but the fact you mention re-doing the walls has me horrorstuck. I rented for over 20 years (until this summer) and I can’t imagine leaving any place in such a state, even if accidents or spills etc occurred. Never saw something this bad in my time as a chambermaid either. Enjoy that G&T (and your dream of the place in France- that is wonderful too and not related to this tenant’s awful selfishness).
My last hair stylist, like me, moves often because (unlike me) her husband is in the military. We were swapping tips on keeping belongings minimal. She’d just bought new furniture (including a bed) and said she sells everything on craigslist for $20, regardless of value.
That way, it always sells and you don’t have to deal with hauling stuff around, or paying the dump to take it, or paying someone to deal with it for you.
I’ve not tried this myself, but it sounded pretty freaking brilliant.
Oh, I did that with the other stuff like the work boots and clothing- I laundered the clothing and cleaned the shoes, and put out them on the Buy Nothing page for FB, and they moved FAST. Mattresses are ..different I think; people sweat and have other excretions on them, without padding, and so it’s best to simply recycle them.
It’s what she did with her old mattress, as noted.
Lancome Miracle. I took my parents to doctor this morning and needed something soft and pretty — enter Lancome Miracle 🙂
Hope everything went ok Barqs!
SotD Fendi L’Acquarossa edp. I saw a tester super cheap on *b*y and liked the bottle so I got it, several years ago. I quite like it – the lantana note makes it unlike any other perfume I have even though it is rose-forward too. I don’t know any of the famous Fendis except Asja, which I love, but I also like the L’Acquarossa Elixir and Furiosa.
I have a vintage bottle of Asja, which I blind bought because of the cool bottle, but I didn’t love the juice and don’t think I’ve ever worn it. I should give it a try again.
Oh do try again, thought it is a “type” that might not be your type. Hey, that might be a Community Project: Scents We Did Not Give Up On – or has that been done? Paging Robin. Oh, and yes, that bottle is very fun.
I’m wearing Map of the Heart Gold Heart today. It doesn’t match any of the Pantone colours, but it matches my dress, which is a dull gold with purple flowers. It’s actually curtain fabric, I’ve got a few things made of fabric I’ve found in furnishing shops. So far, I’ve never turned up anywhere to find that I’m wearing the decor 🙂
I like the idea of matching perfume, dress and furniture. Very chic. I bet you look amazing; you are so stylish
I was wearing Eau de Gaga for my second and final visit to the dentist, glad it’s over, so is my wallet.
Tonight it’s Rituals Victoire d’Ambre which I hadn’t worn since winter.
I am glad they don’t have lie detectors when they ask the ‘flossing’ question.
? I use a water flosser.
My dentist is awesome, but I am always happy when she says that I don’t have to come back for another 6 months.
Oh yes, it’s always a relief.
I felt like wearing something more “edible today” so I went with Carner Barcelona El Born.
Wearing J Scent Black Leather today, it’s kind of mossy and citrusy, and jasmine and dusty. I like it but it doesn’t strike me as a strong leather-centric perfume despite its name. Lovely though. Cold southerly here: big clouds but bright blue sky
It’s been ages since I read on here, let alone commented. SOTD is Eau Première which always seems to hit the spot. I hope everyone is as well as they may be.
Have been very busy with work and had a great holiday in France in September. Glad to be doing nothing for 2 weeks. It’s fully autumn here in Luxembourg, not cold, but often foggy, sometimes rainy and sometimes very sunny, like today. The colours are to die for.
Welcome back!
Hello there, scent cousin! Glad to see you post.
I missed you. Glad to see you
Oh My Gosh! I was just asking about you the other day! It’s great to see you here. Luxembourg sounds lovely. And hope you enjoy your two weeks of rest. ?
In LPRN Black Perfecto in honor of Koyel, and for a chilly morning and warm day.
Chilly and sunny here today. But needing extra caffeine again today. ?☕☕
SOTD = back in No. 5 L’Eau and making plans that my credit card may or may not be happy with…
Just think of the Credit Card as two interlocking “C”s subliminally chirping out “Chanel” in Vanessa Paradis’ voice perched on bird swing… “L’eau L’eau l’eau….”
Trying to hold out for a bit of a discount, rather than paying full retail $$$$. We shall see how well I do.
?
I think the red bottles are defunct. That said, you must have seen the new bottle for L’eau with the silver embossed 5 … or the supercute 30mL …
I’ve seen that cute little bottle! It’s the one making flirtatious moves in my direction.
I’m rather MEH on the embossed bottles.
Smelling fabulous! L’eau is the No. 5 that I “get”. I’m still trying with No. 5.
Make sure you give the No. 5 parfum extrait a chance- it is not the same as the other formulations.
Good to know. So far, I seem to get along with L’Eau and possibly Eau Premiere. The EdT and EdP are big old NOPES for me, and I am all right with that.
Wearing Hiris today (and last night) to match to Mykonos Blue.
Still waiting for a plumber to show up to take a look at a leaky faucet outside; it’s a slow, constant stream of water. Contacted strata yesterday right away to get a plumber out here. Followed up again at lunch with them to see if there’s been a response to their request. No answer yet. Good thing it’s not a super emergency but not sure why this is taking so long!
That bites, not having a plumber show up when you need one.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
I need to catch up on posting perfume pics on IG. Chergui is the perfect warming fragrance for today’s chill. I am on theme as the juice is the color of Root Beer!
But you have posted some incredibly cute cat pictures lately. So that ain’t bad…
