Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Dessert Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in vintage Miss Dior for Bertie's Aunt Dahlia. (She was played by several actresses over the course of the television series. None of them looked quite like my image of Aunt Dahlia, but Brenda Bruce was closest.)
Reminder: 10/15 is Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse's birthday. Wear a perfume for Jeeves OR Wooster. If you have never seen or read anything about Jeeves and Wooster, pick a favorite comic character from any medium, and scent that character.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
My royalty scents came in…and now I’m realizing I lied on the damage poll, having 2 decants sent per month surely adds up to something ? Anyway, trying Honor Woman, which is very pretty but I’m not sure white floral is fitting my mood today.
Seeing the new Halloween movie tonight. Halloween is my mom’s birthday so we used to watch these together all the time. We are many miles apart so she won’t be going with me but I’m still excited to go to the first screening available ??
Enjoy your movie, and you can tell Donatella next time đ
I still need to see the one from 2018. Enjoy!
I loved it! Good seeing Jamie Lee Curtis back, and forgetting all those sequels and starting fresh from the original. Perfect time to catch up!
I’m wearing Cafe Rose today, from a new decant. I could certainly see buying a larger decant when this is done. I really like it, but I’m not sure it’s love.
Good morning.
Dessert day! Yes that decided my sotd. I am in Candy Night, a creamy and delicious milk chocolate.
Yum!
Hi all, my SOTD is Theorema Esprit d’Ete by Fendi. I enjoy this flanker more than the original Theorema. The original is too much-muchness on me.
It’s 50 degrees and I can’t get movin’ but I need to get my butt to the gym! Today is circuit training, more cardio-based and the only way I can get all muscles trained twice per week.
Just signed up for my final HR class, woo-hoo! I’m almost there….
Perhaps it’s the change in seasons (or the scorching hot-hot sauce I had last night), but last night, I just tossed and turned. Probably best to save hot sauce for lunch.
My favorite hot sauces are Melinda’s Creamy Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce and Dave’s Insanity Sauce.
Love hot sauce. I love spicy hot food. I eat fresh habaneros or chilis. If I am eating chicken – it usually swims in a pool of hot sauce. So thanks for Your recommendations. Off to google both of Your sugestions.
Have you watched the tv series The Hot Ones? TV, sports, and entertainment personalities eat chicken wings with increasing degrees of spice. Padma Lakshmi’s episode is a favorite. She didn’t even break a sweat!
I checked out the website for hot sauces, pricey though…
https://heatonist.com/collections/hot-ones-hot-sauces
Oh I got to check it out!! I have seen videos of people eating the Carolina Reaper though and some ended with an ambulance and air ventilators!!
I can go with some super hot stuff, but Dave’s Insanity knocked me out of the ring! One of my favorite quick to make hot sauces is piri-piri. Here’s a link. It’s good for this time of year when all the fresh ingredients are available (talking Midwestern US time of year here). I do a variation with just paprika, garlic, parsley, lemon juice, pepper of choice and salt. A little goes a long way.
https://www.africanbites.com/piri-piri-sauce/
Oh cool! Thank you so much!
Thanks for the link.
My husband is a big piri piri fan after having traveled in Portugal. We’ve had piri/peri/pili at Portuguese and African chicken joints.
We always keep at least a couple of bottled sauces in the house, Macarico and Nando’s being favorites.
I bought a piri piri spice mix and made chicken once but was underwhelmed. The recipe you linked looks amazing. I’m sending it to my H so he can make it!
You know your batch is going to turn out *right* if your eyes start watering while you’re blending it. đ
Sweet! That sounds about right.
For dessert day, I had a bit of Nutella on my waffle.
I just noticed Biscoff spread in our local market the other day. Was highly temptedâŠ.
Ooohhhh. That sounds fabulous. I cannot have Nutella in the house â it is the one sweet treat that I WILL eat out of the jar with a spoon.
Oooooooooof. Can’t do the hot hot stuff (habaneros, for me) anymore. Doctor’s orders, sigh. But I was never able to do more than a drop of Dave’s Insanity Sauce on a slice of pizza even during my high test fire eating days.
Yesterday I wore CdG Sticky Cake because I was in a mood for Hiris-type-of-iris and but have none and Sticky Cake’s iris note comes closest. Before sleep I indulged in half a delicious fruit tart. One of my favorite desserts!!
You have some lovely perfumes! I am not familiar with most of what you have mentioned recently so I have been reading and learning ?
Thank You for the compliment DolceVita!!
Hello everyone. Was worried about being under-prepared for a work meeting this morning so wore Le Jardin de Monsieur Li for a bit of serenity, and it worked wonders. Hope everyone whoâs at the start of their day has a good one!
That one is serenity for me too đ
It is so lovely!
Glad that meeting is behind you – I need to once again try my sample of LJdML, which gets a lot of love here. To me, though, it is so serene, I barely notice it!
Thank you! I started out with a little 30ml bottle when it first launched, took it with me on a work trip shortly after and loved it ever since. I bought a 100ml bottle this summer after realising I wasnât wearing it as much as I wanted to (because the small bottle seemed to enforce a single spray- oh the logic) and this morning I think I applied 3 or 4 sprays, and it created a delightful sense of clarity. If you decide to test it again I hope it delights you too ?
Great choice. I will join you later in Monsieur Li, perfect for spring. Go well!
Good morning all! I’m back in Tam Dao so I get more sh*t done! Looking forward to watching a niece and nephew tonight. They are delightful and will definitely wear me out! Hopefully that means a good night’s sleep ?
Tam Dao for the win!
Happy Thursday fragrant friends. I took a sick day to go to dentist and got to sleep for 11 hours. The best.
Have a list of things to do on my way there and home.
Plus itâs payday! This contract Iâm on pays me every week which is delightful.
Think ll vanille 44 is just the ticket for the day.
Oh, 11 hours, nice!
Sotd Privilege by Parfums Privilege. I’m going for the CP by suggesting this might be Madeline Bassett’s choice. It is sweet, flowery and linear but not off-putting. The bottle would look appropriate on her dresser. I won’t say that I’m not able to identify with Madeline and her very, um, sentimental view of the world. And I would certainly take Bertie as a back-up fiance.
I donât know the perfume but it sounds like the perfect choice.
đ
Even the name is perfect for her! (Well, really for any of them.)
I’m having a very lazy day at home and for my own psyche I’m wearing one of the most elegant perfume I could pick – Puredistance No.12
Also took this picture to play with my vial of No.12
https://www.instagram.com/p/CVAeVBADl7l/?utm_medium=copy_link
Beautiful picture! Keep enjoying your relaxing vacation time!
I am wearing Estee Lauder Estee and drinking a cup of spearmint tea.
Estee is my favorite (as much as my perfume mad self can have a favorite) – it and your tea sound like a great start to your day.
I can see where it would be a favorite. I just discovered it last year, around this time đ
I was binge-watching the first season of NCIS last night and Estee figured prominently in one of the episodes.
Love NCIS! I didnât discover it until this year, and am now halfway through season 4. Or maybe 5. Thank goodness the computer keeps track of where I left off. ?
Whoa! Can you do a spoiler?
No spoiler. Just a character who wore it and one of the stars knew the scent and commented on it more than once.
That is so cool ! I love when fragrances are mentioned or shown in movies or television series đ
Today I am wearing ELO Rien, in honour of Bertie’s…forceful phalanx of aunts.
As an Aunt, I approve of this selection. đ
Excellent!
I just realized last night that I’ve never read the last J&W novel, Aunts Aren’t Gentlemen.
Huh! AI am accidentally on point for the CP. IF my perfume had existed (no doubt it would have been less tenacious then) pre-WW1, then I am sure Bertie Wooster would have given it a sniff–Encre Noir.
Encre Noir was the first perfume I ever bought for myself that was really and truly marketed to men. It remains a cheap thrill for me. I think my bottle is just about at thunk status, so I have to decide if I want to replace it, or if I should save the real estate in my life for something else. So many perfumes, so little time đ
This is why humans need eight arms. I think that if there is alien life out there on a perfume planet the aliens will definitely be more octopus-like, or like trees with multiple branches in order to facilitate multiple testing
It would also make cooking easier–there’s that! A million years from now, we’ll show ’em we saw it coming.
Ha ha. Not waving, drowning (x8)
I saw your comment and thought you meant, âit would make eating cookies easier.â
But then Iâd have another problem on my hands, er, hips.
Wearing SL Daim Blond.
Every day is dessert day for me! I am having a piece of pumpkin cheese cake with my third cup of coffee. Good enough to face the rest of the busy working day!
Happy Thursday! ?
Omg! Love that desert! One year I made a pumpkin praline cheese cake to take to work and it lasted about 10 minutes! People were still looking for a piece two hours later! It was a huge hit. I miss doing that.
Plus, you smell great!
Thank you, Deva!
Pumpkin cheese cake and pumpkin flan are my favorite desserts for the fall season! Your pumpkin praline cheese cake sounds delicious! I need to try that some day!
Wow. Daim Blond, coffee and pumpkin cheesecake. Now that is living life well.
Lol! Thank you, LizzyB! Trying my best! ?
Cheesecake twins! Mine was chocolate with chocolate chips! Lol
LOVE chocolate cheese cake. I can eat the whole thing in a minute! Lol!
Yum. You smell terrific and I was definitely eyeing the frozen pumpking cheesecake at Trader Joe’s the other day!
Thank you Tulipani!
I got a frozen pumpkin cheesecake from Trader Joe’s a couple of weeks ago, when I had dinner with my sisters. It was pretty good!
Every day is dessert day for me, too ??? Will be celebrating tonight just as I did last night, and the night before, and the night before that…
Lol! Joining you in celebration with some tasty goodies tonight! ??????????
Thatâs an emoji meal plan for a week right there! ?
LOL!!! Sign me up!
??
I have never heard of pumpkin cheesecake but I want some!
Pretty tasty dessert! Hope you have the chance to try it some day soon!
https://natashaskitchen.com/pumpkin-cheesecake-recipe/
Thank you PL67!
Okay, youâve inspired me. I havenât baked anything in almost a week, so Iâll make a pumpkin quick bread in the morning!
Pumpkin bread! ? I love it for breakfast! ?
I should probably step up my dessert game. Closest I got to a dessert today was a Lemon Creme Pie Pop Tart. ?
Those Pop Tarts are life savers! I need to get a box in my next trip to the supermarket! ?
I am confused, I thought pumpkin cheesecake was breakfast food? No?
It is breakfast, lunch dinner, snack! ?
Playing with my Montalé sample box today. Picked it up, as well as a small bottle of CSP Vanille Café, yesterday from the post office where it had been patiently waiting for me.
LOVE the CSP, which was a blind buy. I have a small bottle Amour de Cacao and swapped away a large bottle of Coco Figue, which I came to regret. CSP can be too sweet sometimes (Vanille Apricot) even for me, but I generally like them. Anyway, the coffee note is beautiful and up front until the dry down, which is a sweet, non-cupcakey vanilla with just a hint of coffee.
Iâve tried two of the Montale scents so far: Roses Musk (no. Too much potpourri rose for me, although I like the musky
Dry down), and today Intense CafĂ©. I get zero âCafĂ©â from this one, just more roseâŠnot a fan.
I probably shouldnât have started with rose scents, which I rarely like, but hopefully things will improve as I test others in the box.
Happy Almost Friday Day! â?
I hope some other scents will be more to your liking
Thanks! Iâm sure I will. I donât generally like floral forward perfumes because my skin seems to amp the flowers and obliterate everything else. What is a nice medium weight floral for others becomes a floral tsunami on meâŠjust too much.
AmbrĂ© de Merveilles is wonderful! I had a full bottle, but in a moment of insanity swapped it away. Youâre smelling great and hope you’re enjoying your fall cool weather. ??
I am an Intense Cafe fan, but the name is super misleading. More like just vanilla and rose
Yes! I am disappointed. ?But, now I can get my coffee fix with the CSP Vanille CafĂ©, so itâs all good!
Intense Café was vile on me as was its sister Roses Vanille, hope you will have a better experience with the other samples.
Oh, vile is a strong word! Sorry you experienced that. âčïž
The Montales and Manceras are intense.. punch you in the gut intense if you are not careful. I still have samples going around from + 4 years ago that havenât evaporated, and some I like but they are nuclear! Once I dared wear a half spray to work of Sweet Oriental Dream and a coworker⊠letâs say wasnât impressed ?
Stumbled upon my sample of Galop so did a couple of spritzes, which I will replenish throughout the day.
Cooking class tonightâŠI need to find the station that will be making potato latkes with rosemary brown butter applesauce. My husband loves potato latkes. Theyâll also be doing butternut squash ones.
Just ordered a big powder puff and some scented powders off Etsy for my sister. Her birthday is next week. Hope she likes them. Oh, and I saw a big bottle of Olay white strawberry and mint shower gel yesterday. I have the mousse, which was only out for a short time. Last thing I need is another scented shower product, but I do love the scent. And itâs virtually freeâŠ.
If that shower gel will get used and the scent is a Limited Edition, why not get it? Unless space to store it is an issue…
Youâre angling for a mini enabler pin here. Heh. Space isnât an issue. I just have a lot of scented soaps already. But Iâll likely get it because itâs really great for summer.
More fall scents, because it’s still cold. I wore at least 6 sprays of Ambre de Merveilles today and could have worn more.
I am debating blind buying the current version of Bal de Versailles. Has anyone tried it and is it any good? I am mostly interested in the Civet notes. I have tried it several years ago and liked it, but I don’t remember it exactly
I’m no expert in Bal de Versailles, but if it’s civet you’re after, get the vintage. I’d guess there are plenty of reasonably priced vintage minis on ebay.
Good morning, all! Commando at the moment as I’m heading to my first-ever eye exam this morning. Not looking forward to it, and feeling a lot of nagging anxiety since the exam was prompted by by the onset of symptoms that could be linked to something dire. And, unfortunately, the only person available to drive me to and from my appointment (in a town 30 minutes away) was my ex, who I’d just as soon not spend all that time in the car with, and who has announced that he’s significantly reducing his child support payments starting this month but hasn’t yet told me by how much, so we get to have *that* conversation on the way to find out if I have something scary going on with my health.
Needless to say, I’m very glad to hear that it’s National Dessert Day. Comfort carbs are definitely going to play a role this afternoon.
Good luck at the eye doctor â am sending âjust something minorâ vibes your way. Iâve had eye issues big and small, and while I much prefer the small, I have been amazed at the current state of the science of eye repair when one does have something big go awry.
That’s good to hear, and thank you for the just-something-minor vibes! Fingers crossed…
First ever?!? Wow! That is amazing! Hoping your symptoms are benign. And Iâm sorry you have to deal with the âexâ and have that convo. Sheesh! A difficult morning and you absolutely need a nice dessert after all of that. ?
Yes, I’ve always had “eyes like a falcon,” as one doctor put it. So, extra weird to be suddenly losing acuity in one eye.
Hope this can be chalked up to age, and not something more serious. (Why on earth did my phone suggest “snowpocalypse” when I tapped the S for “something”???)
Ha ha! I think I’d prefer snowpocalypse-induced to age-induced problems!
Good luck Isabella both with the ophthalmologist and the car conversation.
Thank you, Aurora. Adulthood: such a pain.
Seconded.
Oh no, this sounds most unpleasant all around. Fingers crossed that both go better than you would have expected!! And definitely treat yourself to something yummy afterwards.
Praying for your good health Isabella!
Just my 2 cents…. You might want to look into having him pay through family court so he can’t change the amount he OWES willy-nilly.
I had the same thought, though if one can avoid court altogether and come to mutual agreement, that’s always the ideal. Not to mention $$$ saved.
I hope the appointment goes well, and the drive.
Good luck with your appointment, Isabella! Hope you indulge in some dessert to make the end of your day more pleasant!
https://pixabay.com/photos/whipped-cream-pie-face-people-814216/
A dessert for your ex! Good luck
đ
I hope itâs all well at the appointment Isabella ?
This is a rotten combination of events. I hope it all goes as as well for you as possible and that health, and justice, will be yours for the keeping.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. Everything wound up being frustratingly inconclusive. The optometrist said my eyes are healthy and told me that there “shouldn’t be” any difference in vision between my right eye and my left, and basically told me I must be mistaken about my symptoms, so it’s back to my GP to try and figure out what’s going on. My ex hadn’t given any thought to what amount of child support he feels he can or should pay, so now I’m waiting to hear back from my lawyer to see if she can figure this out with us. He was apparently just not going to pay me anything this month, and ignore the issue entirely. Which, of course, serves as the 100th reminder that it’s foolish to expect proactive thoughtfulness and integrity from someone who I broke up with in large measure because of his lack of these character traits.
Scheduled a massage for next week so that I have something pleasant to look forward to — will be the first one since the pandemic. Better than dessert!
That is frustrating. Hope your gp will figure it out, or send you to a really good ophthalmologist.
So glad your lawyer is involved, too!!!
Sounds like you might want to find another optometrist, if you can. I hate, hate, hate it when health concerns are dismissed out of hand. I’m going to leave it at that before I end up posting a full fledged rant!
Oy with having to start over to figure out whatâs causing your issue. My no-good cousin tried to do the same thing and HE sued to reduce alimony (he had no choice with child support) with his reason being âchanged circumstancesâ. Said changed circumstances was marrying someone with 2 kids and the someone spending beyond their means. I was surprised it even got to court! He did not win of course and his case is referenced as part of case law.
Yay! What a lovely theme for tomorrow! It will be a tough one though.
SOTD was Feminite du Bois (Lutens ca 2010 version), which has gotten lots of skintime during this autumn. My bottle is half-empty already, I wonder if I should start rationing it or consider back-up. How is the current version?
I’ve heard that the current version of FdB is not the same as the one you have. Plenty of grumbles about reformulation over at Fragrantica. No personal experience with FdB, though. So maybe get a sample of it before you buy?
Still sampling my way through PdN and today is L’eau Mixte. This is a nope for me. The mint and vetiver seem like they are pulling in different directions on my skin, and it just doesn’t work.
Drinking Chocolate Puer. Dessert for me lately has been Fortum & Mason cookies (or biscuits, I guess). I ordered the F&M advent tea calendars for my mom, sister, and myself last month and threw in a few tins of cookies for myself. So tasty!
What a great advent calendar idea! F&M tea is yum and addictive.. We had some given as a present, and now it has ran out I canât go back to the plain one, not even for a caffeine boost.
SOTM has been Cuir Cannage. I almost said itâs one of my top three leathers, but I love them all so much that I canât bear to rank them. I love all my children equally! ?
I bet you smell great, I only do baby leathers but have many favorites too in that category.
Baby leathers lol
I am also team baby leathers, rather swedes!
Cuir Cannage is well worth a sniff, even if it is d/câd. I only have a decant – havenât found a bottle yet. Someday!
Another beautiful fall day and I’m wearing Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours. I love the original but don’t own it while I enjoy this plummy flanker very much, it was available only for what seemed a short while and it fits the season very well.
That flanker is a pretty one! Every so often I see the occasional bottle show up on the discounters’ websites.
Wearing the glorious DSH Fumee d’Or which is perfect for fall. I made root beer float cookies this morning so that I’ll have something to munch on for my early flight tomorrow
Fumee d’Or is a beautiful name! And, so curious about the root beer float cookies, if you care to describe how you made them.
I am curious as well!
1 c butter, room temp
1 c sugar
1c brown sugar
1 egg
1 Tbs plus 2 tsp root beer
Concentrate
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbs milk
3 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 c white chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350
Cream together butter and sugars
Beat in egg
Add liquids
Add dry ingredients and chips
Drop by rounded teaspoons onto baking sheet
Bake for 10 min until just set. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 min before removing.
Makes around 36 cookies
Root beer concentrate can be used to make root beer. My little bottle says it will make 5 gallons of root beer
I am intrigued…
SOTD is 31 Rue Cambon.
Dessert of the day – of which I’ve already consumed half and it’s not even lunch time – is a cookies and cream cookie.
https://www.antoinescookieshop.com/product/Cookies-n-Cream/6
No affiliation – I wish!
So it’s a sandwich cookie with cream filling and chocolate chip cookies on either side?
National Dessert Day is fun! ?
No, not a sandwich cookie at all. It’s an oreo cookie crumbled up and mixed into a cookie. Reminds me of cookies and cream ice cream plus cookie. So good!
Good morning! I’m enjoying a day off work, a day’s leave to celebrate my birthday yesterday. It’s been quite perfume focussed. I got a long-planned FB of Fatih Sultan Mehmed from Fort and Manle as a present from my mother. I enjoyed wearing that yesterday.
Our cat agreed with my suggestion that she might like to give me the Puredistance discovery set, so I ordered that last night đ
Your mom does good gifting! Happy belated birthday ?
And, my what a generous kitty you’ve got. All in gratitude for the great care you give her, I’m sure.
Happy birthday Gaynor! Hereâs to a sunny summer, good health, cats and lots of perfume.
You cat is the bomb! And Happy Birthday to you! ?
Happy belated fragrant birthday!
What a lovely kitty you have there, similar to my Mori who is also quite tolerant of mildly perfumed surroundings. If this was up to my parents cat, he would probably confiscate half of my collection and ban the use of citrus notes forever ?
Happy Birthday! Your Mom and cat are very savvy shoppers!
What excellent gifts!! I got the Puredistance set in a swap, would be fun to compare notes when you try it.
Happy belated birthday!
Happy belated birthday, Gaynor! Enjoy your beautiful presents! ?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday! You got some excellent scented gifts. ??
Happy birthday Gaynor! Glad your mom picked the right present đ
National Dessert Day! That’s right up my alley! Pondering what to make for tonight…
I’m in samples of the new Guerlains: Rose Cherie and Santal Pao Rosa and enjoying both. Something fun to sniff during a gray, cloudy day of meetings.
I am very excited after reading about Santal Pao Rosa, but both sounded promising. Do you get any “reminds me of…” vibes from either? I know I will eventually cave and get one of the “customizable” bottle, what with being a Guerlain fangirl and all.
Iâve been sampling Santal Pao Rosa and liking it. Not sure if full bottle worthy but very much thinking along your lines and thinking I might cave sooner or later with one of these! First time I smelt it in the shop and first impression it thought rather rosy, now I think itâs much more sandalwood that anything else, very Woody and not a a sweet affair, but can still smell the rose. Iâm not a fan of woody perfumes normally but this one may convince me. Would love to know what everyone else thinks!
I’m liking this review…
Why donât we have a National Dessert Day? Back to bread and water, I supposeâŠ
I love a really good bread sometimes more than dessert.
What do you think of these?
I have a small sample of Bee that I am wearing in honour of the (CP) Drones ClubâŠa bit of a stretch, I know, but beggars canât be choosers. I can never understand why it is that the leaves on one silver birch outside my window open weeks before the other silver birch, though they are only 20 feet apart. The second birch is just beginning to open now. Once leafy the trees form a huge wall of green and block all light to my room, so I am enjoying this last week before the green gloom sets in.
Happy Friday here, Thursday thereâŠlooks like we almost made it!
How do You like Bee?
I like it a lot. Itâs not too waxy like some honey perfumes and I would buy it if I could make the effort to see who ships to us now .
Silver birches are lovely, but my mother is firmly of the view they shouldn’t be allowed is residential areas. Her next door neighbour has a huge tree and it blocks a lot of sunshine from her house.
I like Bee, but in miniscule amounts – it’s very potent đ
The trees make me sneeze, very bad for allergies and I think there was a view that they should be banned from near schools etc ( though maybe that was in Australia). The birds love them though
I think Bee works well for the CP! The Drones club name is so funny, I will always smile at how much I laughed when I first read that in whatever P. G. Wodehouse story I first read.
I think that’s perfect!!
So many elements of the J&W series seem better in the books than in the tv series, but truly, you can’t (or I can’t) really visualize how absurd the Drones club is until I see it in the series.
Rolling my eyes in the back of my head in great pleasure… wafting Chinatown!!
Nice đ
Swap packages have been coming in, (yay swapmeet! yay awesome NST and our enabling leader!) and I’m on my 3rd perfume of the day.
Early morning was a comforting spritz of Eau de Charlotte. Post-shower medical appointmenting and errands was The Pour un Ete. SOTM is Hiris.
Will be honoring Dessert Day with a slice of the Double Vanilla Butter Cake I made a couple of days ago.
May extend celebrations tomorrow by making a batch of Dorie Greenspan’s Sebastian’s Brownies with the addition of chopped chocolate, dried cherries and toasted hazelnuts, which I’ve been craving for a while now.
Busy today, will be back to read later! Wearing JM Myrrh & Tonka.
I really like that one Jo Malone! My brain identifies it as âmasculineâ but whatever gender it is, it smells great.
It reads masculine to me too but I love it!
I’m the odd one here. I don’t find it masculine at all. To me, it leans slightly femme.
Trying Castelbajac Red Cherry today which was a blind buy.
Getting sweet and sour powdery rose and cherry so far…don’t think rose is a listed note but some on Fragrantica thing it smells like Rose Jam and I would agree. I contemplated buying Rose Jam at one time and now it appears I won’t have to. đ ? ??
Has anyone come across a brand called Sana Jardin? They have popped up in my local Selfridges and loving most of them. Style is different florals with soft sandalwood and vanilla, nothing too crazy but they smell heavenly. Particularly Incense water and Temple Sandalwood. Didnât wear anything this morning but Iâm now sprayed with these in different spots of my hands, wrists and arms!
I think maybe Apsara here has mentioned them.
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Soufflé Intense
Does anyone feel funny listing Shalimar as âGuerlain Shalimarâ? I always start with Shalimar and have to double-back and add Guerlain. Is there any other house that has Shalimar perfume?
Anyway, this one is most enjoyable!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CVBZlmeJZAy/?utm_medium=copy_link
I opened the package I received yesterday and will post pictures of it either later or tomorrow. The box was mostly packing peanuts, in case youâre wondering ?.
I vote that one can just call it “Shalimar,” but you make a *good* point in that not everyone interested in perfume has heard of it.
Very very true. Not that anyone would mistake it but I once passed by a restaurant that served Asian cuisine (I truly donât know what type) and the name is Shalimar.
Now that you mention it, I don’t think I have ever said Guerlain Shalimar. I might have said Shalimar by Guerlain, but can’t recall.
When I say it, I only say Shalimar and will only mention that itâs Guerlain if the other person looks quizzical.
I usually just say “Shalimar”. Even non perfumistas know that one. But that is only my limited experience and sample size.
Continuing with the new samples today. I’m in The Dark Side by Francesca Bianchi. Wow, just 2 sprays and still going strong!
Do you like it?
I do like it. To me it’s spicy and a bit resiny. Haven’t figured out what it reminds me of yet but it’s familiar. I don’t think I need a bottle but will definitely use up my sample.
Spicy and resin-y is a great pick for Fall!
It is! Wish it came in smaller sizes as I don’t need 30 ml.
Wish more people offered travel sprays!
Happy Almost-Friday, NST!
The sun was out today! Whoo hoo! So happy to see it. ??? At least one of the cats was taking advantage of a sunny window this afternoon… ??
SOTD = back to a warm weather scent, Atelier Cologne Encens Jinhae. I haven’t thunked the sample yet, but not for lack of trying.
Yay for sun!
Is your brother getting snow?
Did you see the snow in South Dakota?!
Yes! I was so thankful to see that big beautiful shiny thing today!
I don’t think that my brother has seen snow yet. I do know that the High County in Colorado got a decent shot of the white stuff. And the pictures from Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas were crazy!
We have the same weather. Tomorrow will be hot ⊠so hard to dress for the commute in and the potential sweaty commute home!
Light layers for the win! But yeah, an expected high of 85 degrees F is nutso in October.
I just got back from the mall with my daughter. Out of the blue she asked if she could get her ears pierced. This is a big step because she has always been afraid to do it. Good news is she did fine. Bad news is.. ear piercing is ridiculously expensive! 40 dollars! I had no idea! What a racket.
My sotd is the new Chloe edp natural something whatever, lol.
If anyone remembers Lancaster Sunwater from the 90″s that is what it reminds me off. It’s fine, and no ambroxan.
It included the starter earrings, right? Curious to know what she picked? I donât remember what I picked but I had it done in my 20s.
They say the piercing is free and you are paying for the earing.
She has thick lobes we only had one choice to get a longer post. It’s a 3ml stainless cubic zirconia. Plus they give you the cleaner.
The SA was very patient and nice.
That IS a big step! I hope she heals without any issue. And one thing to be thankful for- the 80âs are over and so are the huge 5lb earrings that were so in style back then. I loved the 80âs, but I donât miss those huge heavy earrings.
Congratulations to your daughter! Echoing Deva’s hope that she heals without incident.
I remember when I had my ears pierced, it might have cost $10. But that was a long, long time ago.
You are a good mom, Lillyjo.
I remember my ear piercing because I did it myself–twice. I read about it in Little Women, so I used a needle and threaded silk through the holes, but the holes closed up (duh, silk is thin). The second time I used ice to numb the lobes and stuck earrings in right away. My mother was livid. Thanks for the memories! đ
